Last album cover was by Damien Hirst why not use another great artist for this one: David Hockney
These artists conquered the 21st century, in my opinion: Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, and David Hockney.
Peter Blake,Damien Hirst,David Hockney,Antony Gormley,Banksy and obs (She would make my list) but not Emin.
Are Damien Hirst’s dot paintings (not done by his own hands) art or very expensive wallpaper? I often think the art world mirrors the Pop Music world, where the mediocre sits alongside true talent, put on a pedestal by the money sharks behind both worlds (no pun intended) knowing very well that the majority will buy into it (pun intended) I don’t think artists like Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin etc should be confused with amazingly, genuinely talented artists like Grayson Perry, David Hockney etc. I think the film ‘Exit through the gift shop’ is some kind of statement by Banksy, its almost like a modern remake of the ‘The Rebel’ starring Tony Hancock 1961, for those who have not seen it I am not referring to Banksy as the successful chancer, I would put Banksy in the genuinely talented category, he has a lot of mimics but he was the real deal. Those who have seen it will know who I am referring to. Andy Warhol once said “art is anything you can get away with” He should know. For the record, an ...
New Contemporaries, the annual show of art students fresh out of college, has been going for 54 years now. The natural temptation is to view it as a talent contest for picking winners. And indeed the roll call of past exhibitors who have gone on to fame and fortune, from David Hockney, Damien Hirst…
Just been working, with BBC1 Pointless on in the background. My ear was caught by the final category, "Contemporary artists", which was then refined into Young British Artists of 1997 (are you listening Sharyn?). The contestants - who had themselves chosen this category - came up with David Hockney, Damien Hirst and Banksy. Now, the point of Pointless is to find an answer that the majority of the audience don't know or don't guess. However, every single artist was "pointless", apart from Hirst who scored only five points, and Tracey Emin who scored a little more, apparently. The others were: Chris Ofili, Gavin Turk, Gillian Wearing, Marc Quinn, Mark Wallinger, Michael Landy, Rachel Whiteread, Sarah Lucas, Sam Taylor-Wood. All totally pointless, because nobody in the audience had heard of them. How about a visit to Tate Modern, folks?
David Hockney new exhibition - great stuff, great artist, unlike Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst via
Andy Warhol, David Hockney and Damien Hirst to feature in Halls' August 21 auction of 100+ pictures in Shrewsbury.
I like it when I see the brands Damien Hirst, David Hockney, Georgia O'Keeffe,Jennifer Bartlett, et al. I get to understand marketing magic, I get to understand how artists take control of their lives, I get to understand art life staying power. Let the art proof people continue to be so. They will be downsized! Had to say it!
In a criticism of Damien Hirst and his army of assistants, David Hockney has said that it is ‘insulting’ for an artist to employ others to make their creations. Do you agree?
David Hockney sees Damian Hirsts work as "insulting to craftsmen"...
If I had my way Damien Hirst and David Hockney would never be mentioned in the same sentence. Wait...crap!
On the eve of a major new show David Hockney tells Channel 4 News about his latest love affair with Yorkshire and, after that spat with Damien Hirst, why painting comes from the "hand and the heart".
Cannot wait for the David Hockney and Damien Hirst exhibitions tomorrow.
Just going to put this out there - is Damien Hirst a love child of David Hockney's??
Definitely will not be visiting Damien Hirst's exhibition while I'm down, but I am hopefully going to see David Hockney's tomorrow!
Damien Hirst's army of assistants insults art, says David Hockney as he joins Order of Merit
