Cowboys have to restructure more deals to get under cap Before the Cowboys can add anything when the league year opens Tuesday afternoon, they still have some subtracting to do. Despite restructuring a handful of contracts already, the Cowboys still need to adjust some more, as they’re nearly $7 million over the cap, according to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. After putting the franchise tag on Anthony Spencer, the Cowboys went back over the limit they crawled under by restructuring DeMarcus Ware, Brandon Carr, Jason Witten, Miles Austin and Ryan Cook. They’ve discussed further cap-saving moves with players including Jay Ratliff, Orlando Scandrick, Dan Connor, Kyle Orton, Nate Livings and Mackenzy Bernadeau, and will have to push the button on those deals to get below the limit before Tuesday. Of course, they could create the biggest chunk of space by extending quarterback Tony Romo, but that’s a decision that’s bigger than short-term space, and not one that’s likely to get done quickly ...

Well, here we are. The great Sequestration is in effect. Now we have to go through the months of non-negotiating played out in the press and all other media forms, each side taking their down-deep-in-the-heart convictions of what should be done. Greta examples are on the front page of the Dallas Morning News. Under the headlines of Late Bid to block cuts fails, a glimpse of today's versions of the alternatives to automatic cuts as put forth by the President and Democratic Senators as opposed to the alternative plan by the House Republicans. Obama-Dem. Senate plan: $110 billion in reductions- Cut the military spending 27.5 billion, raise $54 billion from income tax hikes requiring those with adjusted gross incomes above $2 million to pay an effective rate of 30%, and raise $1 billion through corporate tax hikes by ending tax break for corporations sending jobs overseas and ending the tax break for "certain oil companies," and save $27.5 billion by ending direct payment farm subsidies to producers. Dallas Morning News: Term limits, resign-to-run proposals considered in House committee By CHRISTY HOPPE choppe— Gov. Rick Perry’s longevity in office and his presidential run would have been complicated by proposed constitutional amendments considered by a House committee Wednesday. The first would impose a 12-year term limit on the governor and all statewide officeholders and legislators. Perry is the only statewide official who has been in office more than 12 years. The second proposal would force all legislators and statewide officeholders to resign their posts if they choose to run for another office with more than 13 months left in their term. Both proposals were left pending in committee with their author, Rep. Lyle Larson, R-San Antonio, pledging to work with committee members to tailor them to win approval. Larson told the House State Affairs Committee that last year the governor, lieutenant governor and two railroad commissioners were campaigning for other offices for months while they had f ...

Letter in the Dallas Morning News - wish I had written it! Tax-free holiday for guns? Such insanity. Let’s get real about guns. Only police and soldiers and security guards need guns. Only cowards, scaredy-cats and gun addicts want guns. Normal people are not so afraid of life that they trade in their security blanket for a firearm. Men who question their masculinity collect guns to “protect their families.” It has been proven repeatedly that only a selfish, childish parent would have a gun in the home. Why? For every home intruder, dozens of innocents are killed by a gun. Repeat: Only a selfish, childish, cowardly parent would allow a gun in the home. Grow up, man up, step up and put your guns away. Over 500,000 guns are stolen and 500 innocent children are killed by guns each year. America deserves to have real men protecting their families, not scared, cowardly little boys. A tax-free gun holiday? Not just no, but *** no! Sue Clark, Garland
Let's ask the big three car companies where these cars are...yep it really happen.. Tesla's Electric Car - 01/09/98 This file was originally posted on the KeelyNet BBS on January 30, 1993 as TESLAFE1.ASC. This file was inspired by a newspaper article in the local Dallas Morning News. It was in a column called "Texas Sketches" written by A.C. Greene. I called Mr. Green and Mr. Langkop who both courteously sent the additional source material. Both also expressed an interest in more Tesla information as well as Texas experimenters, we are sending them material in return. There is also a second file with my thoughts on the Tesla power box, that file is listed on KeelyNet as TESLAFE2.ASC. - from January 24th, Sunday - Dallas Morning News Texas Sketches column The Electric Auto that almost triumphed Power Source of '31 car still a mystery by A.C. In 1951 at age seventeen, I entered college and studied photography under Earl B. Moore, who had been head photographer for the Dallas Morning News. In those days photography was very much like alchemy, darkness, the stench and toxicity of chemicals. After having run a photographic studio as a young man, I chose a different path for my career. The development of digital photography during my time in the school business left me somewhat at a disadvantage as I reentered my interest in photography. Film speed was not as stingy as it had been with film speeds like ASA 8, 14, 20, 40 and peaking out at a blazing 100 ASA. The digital cameras can almost see in the dark. My initial impulse was to make full use of the faster relative speed. After having experienced disappointment in my work for a few years, I took a National Geographics great courses series. The course comes on DVD and is taught by Joel Sartore who is a frequent contributor to National Geographic. It was almost like learning to walk again a ...

I’m Lynn Woolley with your Logic Minute for 2/21/13 Front page one: Dallas Morning News – “Conservative evangelical Christians have become allies in the “path to citizenship” for illegal aliens. A coalition of religious leaders in Texas and elsewhere have joined forces to engage their congregations in support of amnesty. The reason, they say, is the Bible tells them so. But, quoting the Bible – they know not what they do. If these evangelicals love their country and believe it has a special place in the world and perhaps even in God’s heart, they’d better look at the consequences of amnesty. Obama must be salivating at the thought of millions of new Democratic voters and thinking now easy it is to fool the masses. The Church is supposed to be compassionate – but to throw open our borders to millions of poor immigrants – which is what this is all about – may make evangelicals feel good. It may also essentially dismantle our country. Join me online at BeLogical dot com. Until n ...

I realize it will come as no surprise, but Dallas Morning News reports that at the Tarrant County Republican Party's Lincoln Day Dinner, an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle donated by Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples went for $7500. Rick Santorum said "That's a beautiful gun". More evidence that Republicans could care less about children being slaughtered and are intent on receiving more NRA money. For someone who's family got to Texas in 1819, it's enough to make me want to leave.

AVULSION. EVER HEAR OF THIS WORD? Me neither until I read about it in the Dallas Morning News this morning, 16 Feb., written by Steve Blow. “It is about an accident that happened in the opening weeks of the new Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas. At an exhibit designed to see how high visitors can jump, a man leapt up and somehow caught his wedding ring on the display. His finger was severed in the tragic accident.” “I do see them quite often --- at least several times a month, if not more frequently,” said Dr. Bardia Amirlak. a Parkland Memorial Hospital surgeon and assistant professor of plastic surgery at the UT Southwestern Medical Center. The injury is common enough to have a specific medical name --- “ring avulsion.” Dr. Paul R. Ellis III, a partner in the Lankford Hand Surgery Association at Baylor University Medical Center said ring avulsions are a pretty regular part of their business. He said he is always struck by how a devastating injury can occur during the most routi .. ...
chain State Farm is reportedly buying up substantial workspace in Texas, which may signal a coming exodus from the company's home state of Illinois.  State Farm is keeping the move quiet so as not to alarm employees. But the Dallas Morning News reports that it is a “major business relocation” already underway and that this is “one of the biggest stories in the Dallas-area real estate market and will ultimately involve thousands of workers.”     .     State Farm says publicly it is not moving its headquarters from Bloomington, Illinois, but reporters in Atlanta and in Dallas do not seem persuaded. They have tried to figure out where all the workers would be coming from to occupy the new office spaces.     .     The state government, however, is now completely controlled by Democratic Party supermajorities. Gov. Pat Quinn and public sector unions have been pushing for a progressive income tax. This will allow the Democrats to push through tax increases on certain classes of taxpayer ...

Prospective Juror From the Dallas Morning News: A prospective juror in a Dallas District Court was surprised by the definition of voluntary manslaughter given to the panel: “An intentional killing that occurs while the defendant is under the immediate influence of sudden passion arising from an adequate cause, such as when a spouse’s mate is found in a ‘compromising position.’” “See, I have a problem with that passion business,” responded the jury candidate. “During my first marriage, I discovered that my husband was having an affair with my neighbor. All I did was divorce him. I had no idea that I could have shot him.” She wasn’t selected for the jury.

The Philadelphia Eagles have finalized their coaching staff. Pat Shurmur will return to Philadelphia as the team’s offensive coordinator after serving as head coach of the Cleveland Browns from 2011-12 and as offensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams from 2009-10. The defense will be coordinated by Bill Davis, who has 21 years of NFL coaching experience after most recently serving as the Cleveland Browns linebackers coach from 2011-12. Dave Fipp was named the team’s special teams coordinator. Fipp, 38, is coming off of successful stints as an assistant special teams coach for the Miami Dolphins (2011-12) and the San Francisco 49ers (2008-10). During his time in Miami, the Dolphins ranked 2nd (2011) and 4th (2012) in the NFL in overall special teams rankings according to data compiled by esteemed Dallas Morning News columnist Rick Gosselin. Ram's base engine is a stout, modern six with 305 horsepower and economy of 17 miles per gallon city and 25 highway in two-wheel drive form, the article said. That is the best economy in the segment, with horsepower once found only in V-8s; Ram is also the only pickup with an eight-speed automatic, the Chronicle said. The interior fits and functions well, the article said. Despite the Ram's immense 5,500-pound weight, the truck leapt eagerly from red lights and stop signs, the Chronicle said. To this day, Brookings is commonly, and inaccurately, dubbed "liberal" (e.g., Baltimore Sun, 8/9/98; Cincinnati Enquirer, 7/30/98; Dallas Morning News, 7/1/98; AP, 5/29/98). CBS News correspondent Bernard Goldberg even publicly chastised one of his colleagues for not tagging Brookings as "liberal" in his reporting (Wall Street Journal op-ed, 2/13/96). It's called "centrist" almost as often, but never "conservative," though that label would be more accurate than "liberal." In fact, much of Brookings' top brass has come from Republican administrations. Its current president, Michael Armacost, was an undersecretary of state for the Reagan administration and ambassador to Japan under Bush. JetBlue has jumped past American Airlines out of San Juan We have a story in Friday’s Dallas Morning News about Executives Airlines’ plans to cease flying out of San Juan, Puerto Rico, as of April 1. Executive operates under the American Eagle brand. As part of the bankruptcy reorganization of parent AMR and subsidiaries, Executive Airlines is returning its fleet of ATR-72 turboprops to lessors. No planes = no service. In researching the story, I went to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics website to see how the market is divided up out of Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport, particularly since JetBlue’s big move in recent years to add service to the Caribbean as American Airlines and Executives were pulling down service. Below, we have the number of American and JetBlue passengers enplaned, with the numbers representing the trailing 12 months. It gives you an idea of the change that’s occurred down there. However, it doesn’t include Executive’s numbers, so the decrease by American/Ame ...

Good quote today in a column by Tim Cowlishaw in the Dallas Morning News. Cowlishaw is comparing Aggie QB Johnny Manziel and OU QB Landry Jones, who played his last college game in the Cotton Bowl Friday night. "With one interception, 73 percent completions and 278 yards Friday night, Jones wasn't bad or anything close to bad in his final game. But when you're just demonstrating that you know how to play the chords and the other guy is doing Hendrix, it's an awfully ugly way to say goodbye.!"

Trouble-Free Seymour Duncan APH-1n Alnico II Pro Neck Humbucker Nickel Advice - The Inside Track The Seymour Duncan APH-1n Alnico II Pro is a warm, moderate-output neck position humbucker that's great for jazz, blues, classic rock and slide. Designed for brighter toned instruments the Alnico II Pro works especially well with maple and ebony fingerboards. Also works great with hollow and semi-hollow body guitars. The Alnico 2 magnet and moderate windings yield a warm, sweet tone with more natural string vibration for great sustain. Classic rock players who get their distortion from the amp rather than the pickup love the APH-1. It allows them to back off the crunch and get beautiful clean tones with softer attack. Compared to the '59, the Alnico II Pro has a rounder sound with a spongier bass response. Comes with four-conductor hookup cable and no logo.Often the APH-1 is used in both neck and bridge positions. Or, in the neck with a higher output pickup like an SH-11 Custom Custom or SHPG-1b Pearly Gates fo ...

Rudimentary Elements For Idylle - A Closer Look Women's 3.3 oz EDT Spray. It started with a rose. The rose was a blend of Bulgarian roses the 2008 harvest being fruity with overtones of raspberry and litchee. To this blend was added the Plessis Robinson rose created by Jean-Paul Guerlain out of love for the past – an old rose with fruity accents and a pungent fragrance. This in turn was mingled with a chypre harmony emblematic of Guerlain composed of patchouli and white musk selected for its warmth. And lastly came the bouquet that complemented the roses to perfection: lily-of-the-valley lilac peony freesia and jasmine. And so the fragrance was born: a shower of flowers of petals of subtle yet incisive freshness balanced by sensuality. A nectar of flowers an ode to life and love in the warm light of radiant jasmine and the darker warmth of chypre to express an ambiguity of feeling and musk like the scent of cashmere on the skin a comfortable intimate physical sensation. In this com ...

The Dallas Morning News reports that Coppell and Grapevine have the lowest inventory of pre-owned homes for sale in North Texas, with only a one-month inventory and dropping. Specialists explain that a six-month supply of inventory is a balanced market between buyers and sellers. But a one-month inventory market puts the negotiating strength on the seller’s side with numerous homes selling for over list price. It causes for a high frustration with buyers. Coppell and Grapevine may see a healthy price increase in their market due to supply and demand.

Columnist Pans Texas Legislature For Failing To Fund Schools. In a column in the Dallas Morning News (1/2), Steve Blow pans the Texas legislature because when the body reconvenes next week, "Republican leaders will have no plan to restore any of the huge cuts to public education in the last session. One conservative group leader dismissed the need to restore any of the $5.4 billion, saying that public schools had already 'absorbed' the cuts." Blow calls this "a mighty low standard to set for an education system" and attributes the reluctance to fund schools to a push to boost privatization of education by preventing traditional public schools from succeeding by choking off their resources.
Texas Districts Seeking Waivers From State, Federal Testing. The Dallas Morning News (1/2) reports that a consortium of 23 Texas districts that are part of the state's "Texas High Performance Consortium" "wants to be exempt from some state and federal testing requirements while they create the 'next generation' of assessment and accountability standards for students. But the state's new education commissioner is withholding judgment on most of the requests because they are likely to be topics in the upcoming legislative session." The group says "10 waivers are needed to give them the flexibility to design an educational blueprint for the 21st century, according to an update report submitted last month to the Texas Education Agency." The paper adds that State Education Commissioner Michael L. Williams plans to seek a waiver from NCLB, presenting this as one of the 10 waivers the consortium is seeking. The AP (1/4) also covers this story, reporting that "high-performing schools applied to be part of the gro ...

I'm going home! They released me to Dr. Oliver, see him and do labs once a week and come back to Dallas on 4 weeks. Creatanine was still 2.3 but they are lowering the prograf (anti rejection med) to 5 twice a day. Maybe I won't shake as much now. They said the new kidney went into shock after the transplant, after all these test there is no sign of rejection and the test yesterday showed the fluid pocket is not pressuring the kidney at all. So we are going to wait for the kidney to come.out of.shock and they said I can do that at home. So I'm leaving in the morning. Thanks everyone for all your prayers. I love each and everyone of you. “Texas homeowners are still paying the highest insurance premiums in the nation, although residents of two other Gulf Coast states are paying almost as much, new figures from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners show.” “Texans pay sky-high premiums for policies that have more holes than a block of Swiss cheese,” said Alex Winslow of Texas Watch, a consumer group active in insurance rate issues. “Prices continue to climb while coverage is getting slashed.” “Winslow said the Legislature needs to consider a proposal that would require insurers to offer a standard policy so homeowners can do comparison shopping.” “It would give consumers a benchmark choice to make meaningful comparisons and determine which policy provides the best value for their hard-earned dollars,” he said.” Excerpted from: Texas homeowners still paying nation’s highest insurance premiums, by Terrence Stutz, Dallas Morning News 12-18-12

Spent the entire day yesterday taking my Mom to the Baylor Dallas ER. Her doctor sent her there because he thought she might have pneumonia. We thought that they had made arrangements for her to be admitted, but as it turned out, we spent the entire day in the ER with all the other sick people in Dallas. Good news is that she did not have pneumonia, but a severe flare-up of her COPD and emphysema. She's doing better this morning, just hope we didn't catch anything while we were there. Good thing that I've had my Flu shot, because it looked like that's what most people were there for.
January DFW Foreclosures - Record Low The DFW area has had a tapering drop off of foreclosures for two years, but nothing like the sharp decrease for January 2013. Just under 2,400 area homes are threatened with forced sale by lenders on the second Tuesday next week. That is a 42 percent decline from January 2012, according to data from Foreclosure Listing Service. Monthly foreclosure filings have not been this low in North Texas since mid-2005, according to records. The January number, which is a 70 percent decrease from two years ago, is actually the normal number of monthly foreclosure postings during the early 2000s before the recession. Collin County had the largest decrease in foreclosure postings, down 44 percent from one year ago. - Dallas Morning News, December 31, 2012
