After a very exciting men's short program yesterday, complete with drama as Pluschenko pulled out during the warm up, I can't wait for the free this afternoon. Is there anyone who might like to place a bet, just for fun? Yuzuru Hanyu gold, Patrick Chan silver and Javier Fernandez bronze? Although not ruling out Daisuke Takahashi for bronze, if he can hold it together. Really liked new kid on the block Jason Brown. His time will come without a doubt. Also Peter Liebers, best I've ever seen of him. As an afterthought, what a pity Pluschenko didn't content himself with already being a legend and helping Russia to gold in the first ever team event. Would have given young Maxime Kovtun a chance to represent Russia in the men's finals. Hope Jeremy Abbott has recovered from that awful fall so we get to see his free program. No messages or phone calls will be taken this afternoon, this is serious business!!
Pinoy Pride: Martinez qualifies for medal round with impressive Olympic debut Michael Christian Martinez survived the initial cut Thursday night and advanced to the free skate of men's Figure Skating in the 22nd Winter Olympics at the Iceberg Skating Palace in Sochi, Russia. Looking like a young prince in his costume, Martinez, 17, wowed the crowd and left the TV announcers thrilled no end with his "stunning routine" while performing through the song entitled "Romeo and Juliet” of Arthur Fiedler. A proud native of Muntinlupa City, Martinez garnered a score of 64.81, good for third spot among the first 10 competitors but already enough to move on for Friday night's free skate. A new world record was set in the competitions as Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan got a score of 101.45 ahead of three-time World Champion Patrick Chan of Canada who registered a score of 97.52. Javier Fernandez of Spain, Daisuke Takahashi of Japan, and Peter Liebers of Germany completed the top five. Martinez ended the round in 19th place o ...

F'n Yes, Patrick Chan! 98.37!!! (Though Daisuke Takahashi and Florent Amodio must be admired for their flair).
ONTARIO -"In Russia last month, Patrick Chan discovered a new obstacle to Olympic gold, a threat even greater than foes like Daisuke Takahashi, Yuzuru Hanyu and Evgeni Plushenko: An upset stomach. The two-time world Figure Skating champ brought home a bronze medal from his first competition at the new Sochi rink that will serve as the next Olympic stage. Judging from his ordeal, he probably should’ve been awarded some bonus points for not soiling himself on the ice. “I got sick – I had the runs,” the 22-year-old said. “I … went to my long program and had to take Imodium and take Tums. I thought, ‘I may not have clean pants by the end of this’. It was a good test, it was exciting, and with all the conditions, I skated well. I was happy and I was there to experience it.” The always-colourful Chan looked less green – tanned even from a trip to Hawaii — after his encounter with Sochi’s mean cuisine. He’ll wrap up his sixth straight national title at Mississauga’s Hershey Centre thi ...
