This and That. Tennis great, Serena Williams, won the French Open, giving her her 16th Grand Slam title. She's 31, "the oldest woman to win a major title since Martina Navratilova at Wimbledon in 1990 at age 33" (Daily News, 6/9/13, 12B). Owns a home in Paris, lives there a good bit of the time, practices there, speaks French, considers herself a Parisian, is already talking about next year's French Open. Greenwood High School's Lady Gators are the state champions in fast-pitch soft ball! They apparently were formidable in the tournament, allowing only 4 runs in four games while scoring 42 themselves, against South Laurel, Notre Dame, Lone Oak (in the state at the time), Mercy (the defending state champion ?), and Owensboro Catholic. Proud of the Lady Gators! Now, all would be right in my little sports world if an NFL team would offer Tim Tebow a job as quarterback. I know, I know . . . He's too slow, critics say. I am still rooting for him.
Calvin LeBrun, 46, better known as Hot 97's 'Mister Cee' was arrested at Madison Street and Broadway in Bushwick after he reportedly approached an undercover cop who was posing as a gigolo, according to the Daily News.

Tim Tebow to the NY Daily News (Oct, 2012): "I've been very blessed to work with coach Cavanaugh and get a lot better."
After years of being ridiculed, treated unprofessionally and being the victims of "anonymous source" character assassinations, the New York Jets are finally fighting back against the New York media. Needless to say, that has the Jets beat writers in quite a tizzy. Manish Mehta Jets are a well-oiled machine: Coach & owner have yet to talk about firing a man who worked for team for 15 yrs or reportedly fired OC this is the same Manish Mehta of the Daily News who used multiple anonymous sources in an article in November to rip apart Tim Tebow. The gist of the article may have been right, but using sources like "another Jets source," "a Jets official," and "a member of the organization" didn't do anything to help Mehta's reputation or status with the team. This issue has roots way before the Mehta article, though. Perhaps the first media member to consistently attack the Jets no matter what they do was WFAN radio's Mike Francesa. Long ago, the Jets cut off access to the team for Francesa, so he's responded .. ...
News readers say Jets owner Woody Johnson needs to start from scratch at nearly every position. Sanchez likely to have surgery on his left knee The position of Jets general manager is open, and Daily News readers are eager to fill it — wielding hatchets. Now that Mike Tannenbaum has been shown the door, the frustrated fans who voted in The News’ annual “Keep ’Em or Dump ’Em” poll would jettison a bunch of the underperforming players he signed, the entire coaching staff and — starting at the top — the owner. In fact, the one thing they agree with Woody Johnson on is that Tannenbaum had to go. No one got a bigger percentage of thumbs-down votes — 96 — than the deposed architect of the 6-10 disaster. Even the head of the uncoordinated offense, Tony Sparano — whom 95% put on their hit list — was slightly more popular. News readers would solve the quarterback controversy by getting rid of them all, starting with Mark Sanchez at 84% and Tim Tebow at 78%. Jets fans may have cheered Greg M ...
According to the Daily News, the Jets are expected to make a quarterback change for Sunday's game against the Chargers. "There's no way he starts," a source tells Manish Mehta of the Daily News, adding that sticking with Mark Sanchez would be "horrifically stupid." In their last seven games, the Jets are averaging 13.7 points. During that time, Sanchez has lost five fumbles and thrown 10 interceptions while accounting for four touchdowns. It's way past time for a change. Rex Ryan's choices to start Week 16 are Tim Tebow, who served as the backup Monday night, or Greg McElroy. Fantasy owners in search of a plug-n-play option can make a speculative add on Tebow, whose unique running ability gives him at least strong QB2 upside anytime he starts.
The NY Daily News says Tim Tebow will ask the Jets to be traded or released if Greg McElroy starts the final two games of the season.
Tim Tebow - QB - Jets According to the Daily News, Jets coach Rex Ryan "never seriously considered" starting Tim Tebow against the Jaguars Sunday. Anybody see this nonsense. Sanchez was pulled last weekend in favor or Greg McElroy. Now Ryan is going back with Sanchez. When asked why not go with Tebow, he says that he does not feel Tim is medically ready to play, despite the medical staff giving him clearance. What a freaken debacle.
According to the Daily News, Jets owner Woody Johnson "prefers" Greg McElroy to be the starting quarterback. McElroy guided the Jets to a win in a relief role last week, so Johnson appears smitten. The report also says that GM Mike Tannenbaum and OC Tony Sparano prefer Mark Sanchez. None of these heavy hitters want Tim Tebow under center. Ultimately, the final decision will be in the hands of head coach Rex Ryan, who has shown silly amounts of loyalty to Sanchez over the last 2.75 seasons. We're expecting a decision here by Wednesday.
Follow up by Tim Tebow in Washington Post: Anonymous comments by his New York Jets teammates, including one who said “he’s terrible,” left backup quarterback Tim Tebow trying to maintain a positive attitude Wednesday. Tebow said he felt “frustration and I guess some sadness” after a New York Daily News report that quoted many in the organization who were highly critical of Tebow — off the record. “This is something I can’t control,” Tebow said (via the Daily News). “I can control my attitude, my effort and my work ethic. Those are things that will never change based on what anybody says. … I’ve had criticism somewhat my whole life playing football. You got to do your best at handling it. On one side, you try to make it motivate you. But at the same time, it always has somewhat of an effect on you. You’re human. It’s not always fun having people saying negative things about you, but you try to be stronger from it. It always has made me stronger in the past and it will continue t ...
I am utterly appalled at the 12 anoymous J.E.T.S. players who went to the Daily News and badmouthed Tim Tebow! I know when a team is losing it is frustrating and stressful, but there is never a reason to turn on a member of your own team! NEVER!! Tebow has not seen much playing time so you can;t blame him alone for losing, and you haven't played with him in the quarterback position all that much so how can you possibly judge him? There are at least 12 members of the team on the field at any given time and it takes a TEAM to win or lose a game!!! Just because the media and fans are asking for him to play more (as we all know NY wanted this publicity) that is no reason to be petty and attack him! Shame on you 12! HOWEVER--KUDO'S to Mark Sanchez for coming out publicly in support of Tim Tebow! Now Mark is a great example of how a team mate should act! AND i go on record as an avid GIANTS fan however I would say the same thing were it my team or any other team involved!
Rex Ryan believes that the Jets may actually grow closer in the wake of a Daily News report that included several players and members of the organization making critical comments about Tim Tebow.
After reading the 'anonymous' statements in the NY Daily News, Rex Ryan asked whoever thought Tim Tebow was "terrible" to come clean. The entire 54 man roster raised their hands.
"A defensive starter tells the Daily News that Tim Tebow is "terrible."" No the Jets are horrible you could have Peyton Manning or Tom Brady and they would still suck. How do these people even have credibility? Why is he a starter if he thinks this?
