NASA Curiosity Rover collects first Martian bedrock sample
Topic : Evidence of waist-deep flowing stream on the Planet Scientists announced that the Mars Curiosity Rover has discovered stream bed gravel, which hints towards the presence of waist-deep water on the surface of Mars in the past. The co-investigator of Curiosity Science, William Dietrich from University of California, Berkeley stated that for the first time water transported gravel was seen on Mars. Rebecca Williams a scientist at Curiosity Rover stated that the shape of these gravels proves that they have been transported by some means but its size proves that it can’t be transported by the wind or some other medium of erosion. The findings of the scientists following the proofs provided by the cameras of the curiosity rover indicate that once upon a time the dry planet Mars was once wet with the presence of water that followed their for millions or thousands of years. Scientists at NASA concluded that rover’s central goal was to identify a potentially habitable site on Mars and till now it succe ...

I love how these posts seem to come from the Curiosity Rover itself. Gives it a little personality. But the bottom line is that this is another image from the surface of Mars!
Yesterday I puzzled in a post about when the Curiosity Rover would think the new year had begun. The advent of the new year has me thinking about how we count such things and how dependent they are on impermanent situations like the vernal equinox and the location of so-called "fixed" stars. The question came to mind how we could establish a more permanent figuring of the year. The natural answer would seem to be that we use something that moves less in the sky than any other regional object (on the scale of the whole universe), Sagittarius A. For the purpose of figuring such a year it would seem natural to use the axis of the galaxy and the position of the Sun in the galaxy as the coordinates of a plane through which the Earth would pass twice a year. A quick perusal of Internet sources has not given me exact dates for our transit of this plane, but based on current dates of the zodiacal signs it would seem one of them is in early December, possibly about Dec. 7th. While we are an Earth-bound people, ...

Astronomy Picture of the Day 2012 December 27 Curiosity Rover at Rocknest on Mars Image Credit: NASA, JPL-Caltech, MSSS, MAHLI in this smooth soil on Mars? In late October, NASA's robotic Curiosity rover stopped near a place dubbed Rocknest as it continues to explore Gale Crater on Mars. Rocknest is the group of stones seen near the top left of the above image -- just to the left of Curiosity's mast. Of particular interest was the unusually smooth patch of soil named Wind Drift seen to the left of Curiosity, which was likely created by the Martian wind blowing fine particles into Rocknest's wake. The above image shows part of Mt. Sharp in the background to upper right, and, oddly, almost the entire rover itself, digitally reconstructed from 55 frames while digitally removing an extended arm. Curiosity scooped several sand samples from Wind Drift into its Chemistry and Mineralogy Experiment (CheMin) and the Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) laboratory for a detailed analysis. Preliminary data from the soil ind ...

How does NASA drive the Curiosity Rover on Mars? by
A friend of mine recently pointed out that it would be worth taking an entire day off work to look at the photos of Mars taken by Curiosity Rover. Reality came crashing down (as it always does) ; we live in an age where we have access to photos of another planet, I'll reiterate that, another planet. While most of us are aware of the NASA mission and have even seen a snap on the news, it still hasn't occurred to us to have a good (GOOD) look at them. What's more fascinating than the actual photos is the pandemic apathy towards them, surely indicative of the so called age of information. (Too much info, dont truly learn much e.t.c.) Times I've seen... •HD pictures of Mars - 0 •Pointless adverts - countless. I love and hate the 21st century in equal measures. For awesome, life-affirming photos head towards to NASA site. Don't delay.

WHAT'S NEW Robert L. Park Monday, 3 Dec 2012 Washington, DC 1. ORGANIC: BEYOND THE HIGH-PRICED STUFF AT THE SUPERMARKET. Jet Propulsion Laboratory director Charles Elachi, speaking to an international conference at La Sapienza University in Rome last week, implied that evidence of extraterrestrial life had been discovered on Mars by NASA's Curiosity Rover. The search for life to which we are not related is arguably the greatest scientific quest of our time. Although NASA and JPL now downplay the story, there’s room for uncertainty. "Organic" is not a particularly exclusive club. There are about 4 million known organic compounds and new ones are found every day. There is an urgent need for more detail about the discovery and how it was made. But I remind you that November is "rutting season." Even as male deer are fighting over access to females, science laboratories around the world are fighting for a share of the tight science budget. THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND. The results from test one and two are in, but NASA wants to be sure. 4th test due next week. The $2.5 billion Curiosity rover landed inside Mars’ huge Gale Crater on Aug. 5, kicking off a two-year mission to determine if Mars has ever been capable of supporting microbial life. Can't wait to hear what NASA found on Mars with the curiosity rover in December, supposed to be earth-shattering and one for the history books
NASA to Reveal Historic Discovery in December According to Information Week Government, data that NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory scientist John Grotzinger told National Public Radio was "for the history books," will be revealed in early December. NASA's Curiosity rover has another, even bigger, apparently history-making discovery that might just change everything about the universe as we know it — but they aren't telling anyone what it is, exactly, until scientists can be absolutely sure it's not a dud. "This data is gonna be one for the history books. It's looking really good," Grotzinger exclaimed. Unfortunately, NASA won't be telling us what said cool secret is until they run a bunch of tests to make sure what they found is authentic."
The discovery was made by Curiosity's Sample Analysis at Mars instrument, NPR reported today (Nov. 20). SAM is the rover's onboard chemistry lab, and it's capable of identifying organic compounds — the carbon-containing building blocks of life as we know it.

Thankful for new discoveries..."NPR reported on Tuesday that NASA has some exciting news about a discovery with its Curiosity rover that could be 'one for the history books.' According to NPR’s Joe Palca, NASA is keeping its lips sealed on a Mars discovery until everything is verified. Essentially, when putting together the NPR report and what Grotzinger told Palca, it sounds as though NASA is holding back information about a discovery of possible ancient life on Mars. The space agency told Wired in an email that it would hold a press conference about the results in San Francisco December 3.

BREAKING NEWS - 11/27/12 - Legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix' recent disappearance was finally explained when NASA issued a live video stream from the site of the Curiosity Rover landing site on Mars. Hendrix announced something about celebrating his 70th birthday "in style." Sources close to Hendrix' management team said he'd stowed away on the rocket, and flew 150,000,000 miles to the Red Planet to do the concert. The legendary musician played a two hour rendition of Third Stone from the Sun, Little Wing, and ended with Voodoo Chile. He was accompanied by fellow stowaway Sheikh Majnun (whom Hendrix claim the concert was his idea). After the concert, Hendrix sent a text to his management saying "Somebody get me the *** out of here! It's cold!"

From all the information I have gathered on the internet I have learned . 1.The Curiosity rover is actually on Earth because someone shows a large rodent walking on the surface. (don't ask) 2. There are people on Mars ,they are just hiding from us. (Once again ,don't ask ,I just report what I find) 3. There are tiny people on the moon and they have images of tiny people walking on the moon. (They don't need oxygen obviously) Because the Moon has an atmosphere and NASA is hiding that also. In fact the Astronauts could have just walked around without space suits) Makes sense to me. No its ridiculous of course, the moon is a giant space ship. And the Munchkins are living there.
Proof Curiosity rover is on earth Rodent walks on set
I still cannot get over how amazing this is. One of the most impressive things I have ever witnessed.
Possible blow to the search for life on Mars. The Curiosity rover on mars has failed to detect the presence of Methane in the Martian Atmosphere. Methane on Earth is primarily produced through biological processes, but may also be produced non biologically. Previous Earth based and Mars based (ESA Mars orbiter, I think) have detected Methane in at least three areas of Mars, with a seasonal variation. Methane breaks down in the Martian Atmosphere rapidly (six week half life, I think) due to UV and chemical processes. The fact that we have not detected it at any concentration is not proof that it is not there, but It may put constraints on how much there is- the previously reported amounts were in ppb. Stay tuned- we are just getting started on this.
If the Curiosity Rover doesn't have someone's car keys on it, then someone blew a chance to win the Nobel Prize for best prank.
Curiosity Rover hasn't detected methane on Mars, but the methane hinted at before was in localised pockets, so still pretty inconclusive.
