It was quite the role reversal. Cristiano Ronaldo, lauded lately for his Ballon d'Or win and fantastic form in front of goal, let Real Madrid down badly on Saturday as Gareth Bale, much maligned in recent weeks, saved the day for the Liga leaders. Madrid's performance was wretched. Without Luka Modric and Isco to provide a creative spark in midfield, there was no imagination and seemingly no ideas from Carlo Ancelotti's men. Behind from a contentious penalty when Sergio Ramos was adjudged to have handled inside two minutes, it took a Karim Benzema strike from a corner (following a Bale flick-on) to level the game at the interval. "I didn't like the way we played in the first half," Ancelotti said. "And I got angry. We suffered, but the most important thing was to get the three points and we did that - albeit with difficulty." Indeed. Cordoba could consider themselves unfortunate after a second half in which they came close following a remarkable run from Bebe, hit the woodwork after a calamitous mistake b ...
12 Jan 2015 20:49:00 International skippers from around the world gave their picks for the prestigious award, with the vast majority backing their team-mates Cristiano Ronaldo won his third Ballon d'Or on Monday, moving one behind the tally of Lionel Messi, who finished second, with Manuel Neuer in Third Place. Voted for by journalists, international captains and coaches, Ronaldo was not everyone's top choice, however, with several of his fellow players plumping for other stars. CRISTIANO RONALDO 37.66% Lionel Messi 15.76% Manuel Neuer 15.72% Arjen Robben 7.17% Thomas Muller 5.42% Of course, Ronaldo could not vote for himself in his capacity as Portugal captain but rooted for someone close to him, Sergio Ramos, as his first choice, with Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema completing a full card of Real Madrid team-mates. Similarly, Messi went for one of his sparring partners - though not one from Barcelona. Angel Di Maria helped Argentina reach the World Cup final and got his fellow Rosario native's vote, with ...

✒ It was more difficult than the scoreline suggests. Real Madrid beat Almeria 4-1 away from home to stay on top of La Liga and make it 20 wins in a row in all competitions. Perfect preparation for the Club World Cup, but a tougher test than they would have wanted. Madrid fly out to Morocco on Sunday looking to add a world championship to the Champions League crown claimed last May in Lisbon. And in their last Liga match of 2014, Carlo Ancelotti's men were forced to dig deep. In the end, two late goals from Cristiano Ronaldo made it look a lot easier than it was, but Almeria missed a penalty (Iker Casillas' first spot-kick save in La Liga since 2011) at 2-1. The game was wide open until the Portuguese slotted home the third following a fine move involving both Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema. With Almeria squeezing spaces in the midfield and pressing persistently, Madrid missed the quality, touch and passing of injured pair James Rodriguez and Luka Modric. Ancelotti finally withdrew Benzema five minutes be ...
Madrid: Cristiano Ronaldo hit a late double as La Liga leaders Real Madrid thumped Almeria 4-1 to extend their Spanish record winning run to 20 matches on Friday. Ronaldo struck in the last 10 minutes to take his league tally to 25 when he knocked in a Karim Benzema cut back from close range and then put away an Isco pass from the centre of the penalty area to wrap up the victory. Real lead the standings with 39 points from 15 games, five points more than Barcelona who visit Getafe on Saturday. Midfielder Isco had put Real ahead with a superb curling effort from the edge of the area after 15 minutes before Almeria drew level with a sweetly struck long-range volley by Verza. Gareth Bale then nodded in a cross by Toni Kroos to send Real in 2-1 ahead at the break. Goalkeeper Iker Casillas then kept the visitors in front with an excellent penalty save to deny Verza midway ...

Real Madrid top themselves Real Madrid made club history on Saturday night as Los Blancos recorded their 16th straight win in all competitions with a 2-1 triumph over Málaga at La Rosaleda. Cristiano Ronaldo assisted on both Karim Benzema's first half goal and Gareth Bale's strike in the second half to push Real's total goal total to 59 on the season, an average of almost four a game. Manager Carlo Ancelotti opted to play a 4-2-3-1 formation to start so it was Benzema up top as the lone striker and an attacking midfield of Cristiano Ronaldo on the left, James on the middle and Gareth Bale on the right. Toni Kroos and Isco anchored in as holding midfielders while in defense it was a full-strength back four of Dani Carvajal, Pepe, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo in front of goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 71st Champions League goal to give Real Madrid a 1-0 win at Basel as they maintained their 100 per cent record in Group B. The Portugal forward netted from close range after Karim Benzema charged down the left and pulled the ball back for him to equal former Real forward Raul's Champions League tally and move three behind Lionel Messi, who broke the record with a hat-trick for Barcelona on Tuesday. Reigning European Champions Real, who made sure of top spot in the group with 15 points, chalked up their club-record-equalling 15th successive win in all competitions, although they had to survive a difficult second half against the Swiss champions, who battled hard throughout the game with 17-year-old forward Breel Embolo proving a real handful. Some fans at St Jakob-Park decided to get their own action shots as Basel hosted Real Madrid Despite their defeat, Basel, who have six points from five games, can still qualify for the last 16 if they draw at Liverpool in their final game. ...

Rodriguez, Real Madrid top AP Global Football 10 LONDON (AP) — James Rodriguez held off Cristiano Ronaldo to take the top spot in the Associated Press global football 10 poll on Tuesday. Rodriguez scored twice in Real Madrid's 4-0 win over Granada, a result that kept Madrid at the top of the team vote. For the second straight week, Ronaldo is the runner-up to one of his Madrid teammates, despite scoring his 22nd goal of the season. Last week's winner, Karim Benzema, also scored in Madrid's victory but dropped to fifth. Aurelio Capaldi of RAI Sport in Italy praised Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti for getting the best out of Rodriguez so quickly. "Ancelotti is probably living the best time of his coaching career: 11 wins in a row is an amazing result and the way he's making things work after Real Madrid sold Angel Di Maria and Xabi Alonso is impressive," Capaldi said. "This also explains why Rodriguez, who is scoring fabulous goals, already fits well in the team." Bayern Munich's 2-1 comeback win over Boruss ...
Cristiano Ronaldo's opener for Real Madrid in the 4-0 defeat of Granada on Saturday saw him break Isidro Langara's 79-year-old record for the most goals scored in the first 10 La Liga games of the season. Langara set the record in 1935-36 when playing for Real Oviedo after scoring 16 goals in his opening 10 matches of the campaign. Ronaldo, however, notched his 17th of the season as Madrid secured three points to move top of La Liga, while he reached the target in just nine games, having missed the 4-2 defeat against Real Sociedad in August through injury. The Portugal captain has not scored as many goals at this stage in La Liga during his last five campaigns at Madrid, having previously managed a best of 11 in 2010-11 and 2012-13. Ronaldo's strike against Granada was teed up by teammate Karim Benzema, before the former Manchester United man returned the favour, and that turned out to be the 39th and 40th assists between the pair since they started playing together in 2009. It was the 15th assist that Ro ...

ENOUGH HAS BEEN SAID ABOUT THE RESULT ON WEDNESDAY..HERE ARE SOME EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS FROM OUR FRIEND Hesketh. THANKS AS USUAL XXX Liverpool lost 3-0 to an exceptional Real Madrid side in their Champions League clash at Anfield on Wednesday evening. Liverpool were outclassed by a terrific Real Madrid side at Anfield, as Brendan Rodgers‘ succumbed to a deserved 3-0 loss against the European Champions. Two goals from Karim Benzema, both avoidable, and a terrific strike by Cristiano Ronaldo were the difference on the night, but in truth it could have been more had Los Blancos not eased off in the second-half. It was an evening that showed just how good the top teams in Europe are, and illustrated how far Rogders’ side still are from being the finished article. Once against soft goals were conceded, and it is becoming a serious cause for concern. In the other Group B clash, Ludogorets secured a last-minute win against Basel, which is an excellent result for the Reds in their quest to qualify for the knockout ...
Real Madrid cruise at Liverpool while Arsenal rally for late victory Real Madrid cruised to a win at Liverpool, while Arsenal rallied for a late win and Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund posted big shutouts in the Champions League on Wednesday. Cristiano Ronaldo's 70th Champions League goal and a double from Karim Benzema guided Real Madrid to a 3-0 win over Liverpool as the reigning champions notched a third straight victory in Group B. All the goals came in a devastating 18-minute spell in the first half at Anfield, with Ronaldo moving to within one goal of Raul's record tally in the competition by flicking in a superb opener in the 23rd minute. The goal punctured Liverpool's bright start and Real took control, with Benzema heading in the second in the 30th minute and then making it 3-0 from close range. Mario Balotelli's miserable start to his Liverpool career continued as he was substituted at halftime -- and swapped shirts with an opponent while walking to the dressing room. Liverpool endured the second defeat of their Champions League campaign on Wednesday night as holders Real Madrid came to Anfield and clinically claimed a 3-0 victory from the Group B encounter. Despite a hugely encouraging start by the Reds, it was the La Liga outfit breaking the deadlock midway through the half via a Cristiano Ronaldo volley. That setback was compounded when, seven minutes later, Karim Benzema rose highest to plant a header home at the Anfield Road end. The French international striker clipped in Madrid's third from close range just before half-time, leaving Brendan Rodgers' charges with a mountain that proved impossible to scale for the remainder of the tie. Rodgers had opted for three alterations to the Liverpool XI that ultimately prevailed in dramatic circumstances at Queens Park Rangers last weekend - Joe Allen, Philippe Coutinho and Alberto Moreno received the nod for a position from the start. As expected, and requested by the captain on the eve of the contest, the capacity crowd ...
Liverpool were given a painful lesson in how far the Champions League has moved on in their absence as they were completely outclassed by holders Real Madrid at Anfield. Real score all three goals in first half Ronaldo scores 70th Champions League career goal Benzema scores twice to put Real in command Balotelli substituted at half-time Television screens inside Anfield's lounges relived Liverpool's 4-0 win against Real in the last 16 in 2009 in an attempt to set the mood before kick-off - but there was never any hope of a repeat. Cristiano Ronaldo led Real's charge with a superb opener after 23 minutes and Karim Benzema added two before the interval to leave the hosts facing a desperate exercise in damage limitation. It was the first time Liverpool had been three down at half-time at Anfield in their long and glorious European history - a fact no doubt noted by Real coach Carlo Ancelotti, who was in charge of AC Milan in Istanbul in 2005 when the Reds claimed the Champions League after facing a similar h ...

Simply The Best.. Cristiano Ronaldo cannot stop scoring. With his third hat-trick in four games and an assist for Karim Benzema as well, the Portuguese led Real Madrid to a 5-0 thrashing of Athletic Club at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday and moved into serious contention for a third Ballon d'Or. At this rate, it is hard to see how anyone will stop him.
The Portugal star took his league tally to a remarkable 11 goals in just four matches as Karim Benzema got two of his own Cristiano Ronaldo scored his third hat-trick in four La Liga matches as Real Madrid smashed Athletic Bilbao 5-0 on Sunday. The Portugal international had trained alone in the build-up to the match due to the problem suffered in Wednesday's Champions League victory over Ludogorets, but he showed no ill effects to take his tally to 13 goals in six La Liga games so far this season.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored in his 14th consecutive home game as Real Madrid made light work of beating Athletic Bilbao. He also made it an incredible 22 league hat-tricks equalling the record held by Alfredo Di Stefano and Telmo Zarra. The 5-0 victory was a BBC production with 'Bale, Benzema and Cristiano' too much for the visitors – Gareth Bale set up two of Ronaldo's goals and Karim Benzema also scored twice with Ronaldo taking yet another match ball home. 'We are still getting better, this is still the start of the season' said the record breaking scorer. 'The BBC is working well. We are used to playing together and we keep scoring goals.

Real Madrid 5-1 Basel Real Madrid opened the defence of their Champions League title with a 5-1 mauling of Basel in Group B at the Santiago Bernabeu. - Corrigan: Madrid's mood swings Nearly four months on from securing La Decima in Lisbon, the record winners showed glimpses of their brilliant best and, after an own-goal from Marek Suchy got the ball rolling, Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodrguez all found the target in seven first-half minutes. Derlis Gonzalez grabbed one back for Basel but Karim Benzema completed the scoring with 10 minutes remaining. The inclusion of Fernandez Nacho was the only real surprise for the Spanish giants, while summer signings Toni Kroos and Rodriguez made their Champions League debuts for Real.
Real Madrid started the defense of its Champions League crown with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Basel on Tuesday, while Liverpool celebrated its return to Europe's top club competition with a dramatic 2-1 win against Bulgarian side Ludogorets. Madrid's win should end talk of crisis following a poor start to the club's domestic season. Goals by Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, James Rodriguez, Karim Benzema and a Basel own-goal secured the 10-time champions' a very comfortable victory in Group B. Five years after its last involvement in the Champions League, Liverpool needed a penalty from Steven Gerrard in the third minute of added time - just two minutes after Ludogorets looked to have snatched a draw - to earn all three points.
This is pitch invading done properly. A Cristiano Ronaldo imposter fools everyone - much to Karim Benzema's amusement - in Real Madrid's friendly with Fiorentina. A rather skilled larrikin shows Christian Eriksen how to take a free kick at Upton Park during Spurs' win over West Ham. Watch the hilarity:

Cristiano Ronaldo strikes twice as Real claim Super Cup: Cristiano Ronaldo struck twice as a rampant Real Madrid side, featuring the most expensive strikeforce ever assembled, powered to a 2-0 win over Sevilla in the all-Spanish Uefa Super Cup at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday. Real, starting with eight of the team that won the Champions League last season, were predictably the better side in the annual curtain-raiser to the European club season and were far too strong for Sevilla, the Europa League winners. Ronaldo put Real ahead after 30 minutes when he converted a sublime pass from returning hometown hero Gareth Bale, the world's most expensive soccer player, and the Portuguese winger made it 2-0 with a fierce left-foot shot after 49 minutes. Real's front four of Bale, Ronaldo, Colombia's James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema, who cost a total of about 270 million pounds ($453.95 million), could easily have scored more as the Madrid side won the trophy for the first time since 2002. "There will be no signings until after the World Cup. We're in no rush and we don't need to do a lot of business", Carlo Ancelotti stated before jetting off on holiday, hinting that goings-on in Brazil could yet determine which players the club bids for. Paul Pogba, Arturo Vidal, Toni Kroos and Marco Verratti are among the figures Real are believed to be keeping a close eye on at the World Cup. And then there's Luis Suárez, the 'Galáctico' forward the club would love to line up alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema to form a dream frontline. The Uruguayan star is under Real scrutiny in Brazil. The club has no doubts over his ability, but his price tag - the new Liverpool contract he signed at the end of last year includes a €94m release clause - means any move for the striker will not be made lightly. Especially considering he has just come back from a tricky knee operation that could have ended his World Cup before it began. 'Los Blancos' want to be sure they will get their full ...

FIERCE COMPETITION IN SPANISH La Liga: (Premiership must take note) La Liga has gone leaps and bounds after what some considered a debacle last year. Two Spanish finalist in the Champions League alone speaks volumes. But the way the title is going to the wire with all three leaders and contenders Atletico Madrid, Barcelona (I do not know if dem own be Real or Athletico Barcelona) and Real Madrid all failed to win their matches today. Real got the short end of the stick by getting beaten by Celta Vigo 2-0. Celta who? I have never heard of them before (I no know book oooh). Well may be they have conceded the title and now want to conserve energy for the Champions League finals against Athletico. However, this might not be so since Cristiano Ronaldo, Angel Di Maria, Pepe, Raphael Varane and Karim Benzema are reported injured and Gareth Bale is supposed to be sick! Advantage Atletico? But Athletico only fared slightly better because they could only manage to force Malaga to a 1-1 draw which was sufficient to ...

Real Madrid ROAR POWERFULLY INTO FINAL Real Madrid blew Bayern Munich away to reach the UEFA Champions League final with a 4-0 second leg victory which secured a 5-0 aggregate success. Sergio Ramos took advantage of some woeful marking to head home twice from set pieces in the opening 20 minutes before Cristiano Ronaldo put the finishing touch to a devastating counter-attack in the 34th minute in a blistering opening half from the Spanish giants. Ronaldo added a fourth with a late free-kick and the only downside for Carlo Ancelotti's side, who will face either city rivals Atletico Madrid or Chelsea and former boss Jose Mourinho in the Lisbon final next month, was the needless booking for midfielder Xabi Alonso which rules him out of the showpiece. Pep Guardiola's reigning European Champions had dominated possession in the first leg at Santiago Bernabeu last week, only to leave Spain with a 1-0 deficit after Karim Benzema struck. Any hopes they had of working their way back into the tie were obliterated by ...

Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola have been good with their respective teams but RM stands a better chance after the 1-0 lead in the first leg. Bayern were tactically naive in the first leg where RM played without Gareth Bale and CR without full fitness. Will the Bavarians get the two required goals and prevent RM from scoring that 1 away goal? Real Madrid: Iker Casillas; Marcelo, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Dani Carvajal; Ángel di María, Xabi Alonso, Luka Modrić; Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale. Bayern Munich: Manuel Neuer; David Alaba, Dante, Jerome Boateng, Philipp Lahm; Javi Martínez; Franck Ribéry, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Toni Kroos, Arjen Robben; Mario Mandžukić.
Real Madrid will be travelling to Germany today & will later this evening train at the Allianz Arena. Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, & Cristiano Ronaldo will play this Tomorrow against Bayern If Real Madrid scores one, Bayern needs three. We're the top goalscoring team and our defense has proven to be solid. Believe. Hala Madrid.

Ronaldo double eases Madrid past Osasuna 26 April 2014, 22:27 Real Madrid's rampant Cristiano Ronaldo scored at the start of each half to set up a 4-0 victory olowly Osasuna and put the pressure back on La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid on Saturday. Sergio Ramos and Daniel Carvajal also netted for Real who are second on 82 points, three behind Atletico before their trip to Valencia on Sunday with both teams having played 34 games. Barcelona, mourning the death of former coach Tito Vilanova on Friday, are now in Third Place with 81 points from 34 matches and travel to Villarreal on Sunday. Real did not risk Gareth Bale or Karim Benzema against Osasuna ahead of their Champions League semifinal second leg at Bayern Munich on Tuesday in which they hold a 1-0 advantage. But there was no holding Ronaldo, who only returned from injury in Wednesday's first leg against Bayern at the Bernabeu having been out since early April, as he cut in from the left wing and fired into the corner of the net after six minutes. Real Madrid 1-0 Bayern Munich Posted at 20:10 Look away now Bayern fans. Real have never lost a Champions League game on the 17 occasions that Karim Benzema has scored in the competition for the Spanish side. Bayern are on the ropes. Cristiano Ronaldo, who was involved in the build-up for the goal, heads straight at Manuel Neuer from Angel Di Maria's cross.
Things To Expect From Semi Finalists "Real Madrid's shoddy back line will leave them vulnerable" Real Madrid's awesome attacking power has served them well so far. No team in the competition has more goals this season. They have scored 32 times in the Champions League and have been able to devastate opponents due to their immense firepower. As the game against Borussia Dortmund showed, however, Madrid are in danger when their attackers have an off-night. With no Cristiano Ronaldo in their ranks, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale were tamed easily. Dortmund scored twice and should have had more. Madrid are lucky to be in the last four because their defence cannot be relied upon. When they are expected to see out a game instead of vanquishing the opposition with relentless attacks, Real Madrid are in peril. There is a lack of organisation in front of Iker Casillas with neither Sergio Ramos nor Pepe capable of adequately commanding a defence. Moreover, there are mistakes aplenty in the Real ranks. Pepe and Xabi ...

DORTMUND, Germany (AP) — Real Madrid reached the semifinals of the Champions League on Tuesday after losing 2-0 at Borussia Dortmund but finishing up with a 3-2 victory on aggregate. Playing without star striker Cristiano Ronaldo due to a left-knee injury, Madrid could afford to miss an early penalty and still go through against last season's runner-up thanks to its 3-0 home victory in the first leg last week. Marco Reus scored in the 24th and 37th minutes, and Dortmund wasted several excellent opportunities in the second half, including a shot against the post. Nine-time champion Madrid reached the semifinals for the fourth consecutive season. The Spanish side has lost in the semifinals for the past three years — being eliminated last season by Dortmund. In Tuesday's other match, 2012 champion Chelsea beat Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 in west London to reach the last four on the away goals rule after a 3-3 draw on aggregate. In Dortmund, Lukasz Piszczek conceded a penalty when he accidentally handled the ...

Reports have claimed Liverpool are set to enter the race for Liverpool midfielder Isco as seeks a summer move away from Real Madrid this summer. The 21-year-old ace only joined the Spanish giants last summer from Malaga and was considered one of the bright hopes in European football. However, boss Carlo Ancelotti prefers Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Angel Di Maria and Karim Benzema as his attack.. And now the SportsDirectNews website claim Liverpool are ready to throw their hat into the ring for Isco as they look for summer additions with Champions League experience. (James)
Admit it if there was Cristiano Ronaldo instead of Karim Benzema the score was 2-2 now
Cristiano Ronaldo was left on the Real Madrid bench for Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final, second leg against Borussia Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion. The world player of the year picked up a knee injury in last Wednesday’s 3-0 first-leg win in the Spanish capital and then pulled out of training in Germany on Monday after just 20 minutes. Coach Carlo Ancelotti instead moved Angel Di Maria into the Madrid attack alongside Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, while Asier Illarramendi was brought into the midfield in place of Isco. Dortmund welcomed back Poland striker Robert Lewandowski, who missed the first leg due to suspension, but coach Jurgen Klopp was forced to name a make-shift pairing in central midfield. With captain Sebastian Kehl suspended and Nuri Sahin, who has been struggling with a back injury, only on the bench, Klopp handed starts to Oliver Kirch and recent signing Milos Jojic. German internationals Sven Bender and Ilkay Gundogan are also out injured. Starting line-ups in the Champio ...

Sevilla 2-1 Real Madrid: Two Bacca strikes down Blancos Carlo Ancelotti's men fell to defeat just a few days after losing to Barcelona at home in the Clasico, and their title hopes are potentially fading Real Madrid suffered another blow in the title race, falling to consecutive defeats as Carlos Bacca's double saw them lose 2-1 to Sevilla at Wednesday. TheBlancos' controversial 4-3 defeat to arch-rivals Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday saw them overtaken by Atletico Madrid at the table's summit - subsequently reigniting the Catalans' own challenge in what is shaping up to be one of the best Spanish title races in recent years. But Ancelotti's side endured more disappointment in Andalusia on Wednesday, with a second reverse in the space of a few days. Cristiano Ronaldo's 14th-minute free kick gave them a good start and they looked rampant at one stage, with Karim Benzema in particular threatening. However, they were made to rue their misses as Carlos Bacca leveled a few moments later. The vis ...

If there's a player who has shown a significant improvement from last season, that player has to be the France international Karim Benzema. The former Olympique Lyon striker arrived to Real Madrid in the exact same year as Cristiano Ronaldo, but while the Portuguese has already recently reached his 240th goal for the Merengues, Benzema only has 108 goals by now. This year however, the Frenchman seems to finally be benefiting from a great understanding on the pitch with both Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, but he's definitely also taking advantage of being given a lot more playing minutes, due to Gonzalo Higuaín's transfer to Napoli last summer. Following the injury he picked last Saturday against Malaga, Benzema will be sidelined for the Real Madrid vs Schalke clash scheduled for this Tuesday night, but he hopefully he should be fit just in time to be eligible to play in the Clasico, scheduled for next weekend (March 23). Also this Tuesday night, Chelsea vs Galatasaray will take place at the Stamford ...
Many of Europe's classic sides have been built upon a core trio of key players and Goal takes a trip down memory lane to recall some of those famous link-ups By Miles Chambers Real Madrid have the most expensive attacking trident on the planet this season following the €100 million signing of Gareth Bale. The Welshman has often played on the right flank, with €94m man Cristiano Ronaldo on the other, while Karim Benzema - who cost €41m in 2009 - marauds through the middle. In the short space of time that the trio have played together they have already proven that they are a deadly combination, most notably scoring two goals apiece in their 6-1 Champions League drubbing of Schalke in the opening leg of their last-16 tie. They have since earned the nickname 'BBC' among Blancos fans and pundits alike. Ahead of Madrid's second leg clash at the Santiago Bernabeu, Goal looks at 10 classic trios that have starred in the European Cup or Champions League... Arsenal must pay £25m to sign Alvaro Morata this summer. Arsenal have been told they must pay £25 million to sign Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata this summer, according to reports in Spain. 21-year-old Morata, who joined Los Blancos from local rivals Getafe in 2008, is one of European football's brightest young talents but is evidently struggling to find a consistent role in the club's extremely impressive attacking set-up. With the divisive figure of Karim Benzema appearing to thrive alongside the considerable threats of Cristiano Ronaldo and summer signing Gareth Bale, Morata - who boasts an extraordinarily good goalscoring record for Spain's U21 team - has been limited to just 13 appearances in La Liga so far this season. Such a lack of regular action has seen Morata linked with a move away from Real Madrid, with reports earlier this week suggesting that Arsenal were looking to resurrect a January move for the player and that they had already sounded out his representatives. Just whether Arsenal wi ...
The Spanish club got a pair of goals each from Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema as it destroyed Schalke, 6-1.
Real Madrid vs Shalke FC was like an elephant vs an ant. with Gareth Bale dancing his wat through 6 defenders, the keeper could only manage to curse the mothers of his dazed protectors. Karim Benzema only work seemed to rain shots at that very keeper whose sanity was only being preserved by the water he was gulping into his shocked throat. Then came the one and the only Cristiano Ronaldo. A run into Shalke penalty box followed by 7 stepovers during which a defender actually fainted, in the goal that followed the helpless keeper just looked up & this time, only cursed the day he was born! Madrid were playing away, my advice to Shalke, just resign from the competition, don't bother with the return leg, we have laughed enough already!
Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, going off on Schalke. Good goal from Klaas Jan Huntelaar too.
Forget the SAS! Real Madrid have the BBC & they have scored 70 goals this season!-- Real Madrid scored six goals at Schalke on Wednesday evening and their front three have developed a nickname we will be hearing plenty of in the coming weeks. Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo make up the BBC and they are undoubtedly a front three that could go on and win the 10th European Cup for Real Madrid. After last night’s goal fest, the BBC have 70 goals between them. Cristiano Ronaldo has contributed 36 of them. Karim Benzema 20 – not bad considering he is hardly even considered a “Galactico” and Gareth Bale has notched 14. Schalke away was the fourth time this season all three Real Madrid forwards have scored in the same game but was their largest total haul so far.

Sports Update, Gareth Bale scored his first goal in six weeks as Real Madrid powered their way past Real Betis, recording a resounding 5-0 win to go joint-top of the Primera Division. • Train: Real enjoy a stroll in the sun The Welshman sent a left-footed free-kick into the net midway through the first half after Cristiano Ronaldo had opened the scoring with a thunderous strike from over 30 yards out. Karim Benzema then widened the scoreline even further before the break, taking advantage of a fine move from Luka Modric, and in the second half Angel Di Maria scored his second goal in as many games before substitute Alvaro Morata piled further misery on Liga whipping boys Betis. The Andalusians have taken just one point in six league games under Juan Carlos Garrido, who succeeded Pepe Mel - now in charge at West Bromwich Albion - at the start of December, and speculation has been growing that Betis' directors are planning on changing coach yet again. Real Madrid are back at the Santiago Bernabéu to take on their group rivals from Turkey, Galatasaray. Cristiano Ronaldo is recovering from a thigh injury, so Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, and Isco will have to pick up the goalscoring slack
Proud for the team. Great performance by every single player. Scored 4 goals without Cristiano Ronaldo, which is also quite special.0-1: Cristiano Ronaldo, 0-2: Karim Benzema, 0-3: Gareth Bale, 0-4: Isco Alarcon, 0-5: AlvaroMorata. Cristiano Ronaldo struck again in Real Madrid's 5-0 rout at Almeria before going off injured, while Barcelona didn't miss sidelined star Lionel Messi as it eased past 10-man Granada 4-0 to retain the Spanish league lead on Saturday.Fresh from scoring four goals to lead Portugal past Sweden in their World Cup qualifying playoffs, Ronaldo extended his scoring run to eight straight games for club and country by grabbing Madrid's third-minute opener.Ronaldo walked off the pitch in the 52nd with asuspected hamstring injury before Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Isco Alarcon and AlvaroMorata added goals."It was for precaution," Ronaldo said. "It's nothing special. I was kicked in the first half and had the muscle a little stiff."Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said Ronaldo had "a problem with his hamstring" and he would undergo more tests on Sunday.

Small message to my brothers Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcelo & Karim Benzema. Thank you for supporting me.
Real Madrid avoids La Liga setback Real Madrid brittle defense nearly spoiled another tremendous performance from Cristiano Ronaldo in a 3-2 win at Rayo Vallecano on Saturday. After a hugely impressive attacking display in their 7-3 mauling of Sevilla on Wednesday, Madrid looked set for another goal glut as their forward trio of Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale again came to the fore. Ronaldo, who netted three against Sevilla, opened the scoring early on and then Bale set up further goals for Benzema and Ronaldo again as Madrid stormed into a 3-0 lead after 48 minutes. However, Carlo Ancelotti's men were then stunned as Rayo won, and converted, two penalties in three minutes from Jonathan Viera to set up a thrilling final half-hour in which the home side hit the woodwork and came close on a number of other occasions. They could not find an equalizer though and remain rooted to the foot of the table while Madrid stay within sight of Barca, who beat Espanyol on Friday in their own derby. Madrid took t ...
MADRID, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Unconvincing Real Madrid survived a huge scare at rock bottom Rayo Vallecano when they conceded two quickfire second-half penalties but held on under severe pressure to secure a nervy 3-2 victory in La Liga on Saturday. The world's richest club by income, who play at Italian champions Juventus in Europe on Tuesday, were flying when a Cristiano Ronaldo double and a goal from Karim Benzema put them 3-0 ahead shortly after halftime. However, Carlo Ancelotti's expensively-assembled side were unable to control the match against their lowly city rivals and were left reeling when Jonathan Viera struck twice from the spot in three minutes after clumsy fouls by Pepe and Marcelo. A valiant Rayo, whose squad is worth less than a tenth of their illustrious neighbours' and whose fans unfurled a gigantic banner reading "Proud to be Poor" before kickoff, came close to equalising several times. Real goalkeeper Diego Lopez saved his team with a host of fine saves and tipped an Alberto Bueno shot ...

The unstoppable trinity of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema. Indeed they were one in purpose and demonstrated their total onslaught against a vulnerable Sevilla Defence. Scoring 7 goals among them was a message sent to Sepp Blatter, the impatient section of the Bernabeau fans and the Spanish media to appreciate the beauty of the attacking minded stars of the Real Madrid family.Hala Madrid Hala!
Goals from South American duo Neymar and Alexis Sanchez gave Barcelona a 2-1 win in El Clasico over Real Madrid. Barcelona took the lead just 19 minutes in when Neymar, on his El Clasico debut, found the corner of the net after being played in by Andres Iniesta. Real pushed hard for an equaliser with Victor Valdes producing fine saves from Sami Khedira and Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo also had a very good penalty shout waved away before Karim Benzema rattled the crossbar with a stinging drive. But the win was sealed by Barcelona substitute Sanchez when he beautifully chipped home with 12 minutes remaining. Real pulled one back in added time when Jese latched onto Ronaldo's ball to fire under Valdes, but it was too little too late for the visitors. The win means Barcelona maintain their unbeaten start to the season and moves them some six points clear of Real. Bale Gareth Bale made his second start for Real Madrid but was unable to influence the game and had a frustrating evening, only managing two long-rang ...

Real Madrid are looking for a striker to sign in the January transfer window. Karim Benzema, who never enjoyed the faith of either Jose Mourinho or Carlo Ancelotti, seems to be on his way out of the Bernabeu and already Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is looking towards his direction in order to add some depth to his squad's attacking line. Real Madrid are interested in Liverpool's Luis Suarez and AS Monaco's Radamel Falcao - but who is the best solution for Los Blancos? Suarez relies on his speed and technique and he likes going away from the box and trying to create dangerous situations for himself and his teammates. On the other hand the Colombian spends much more time inside the box and tries to be in the right position to score any ball that comes to him. In other words Suarez is closer to the False Nine-type, while Falcao fits better in a formation with a classic striker at the top. Real Madrid's squad is full of players that can create situations for strikers to score. Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, An ...

Zinedine Zidane says he would like to see either Cristiano Ronaldo or fellow countryman Franck Ribery pick up the Ballon d’Or award this year. Ribery was crowned Uefa Best Player last month after inspiring Bayern Munich to the treble last season, pipping fellow nominees Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to the prize. And Zidane believes the 30-year-old deserves global football's top individual honour for 2013 along with Real Madrid star Ronaldo, instead of current holder and four-time winner Messi. "I hope it will be one of those two, both really deserve it,” stated the Madrid sporting director to TV programmeCanal Football Club. "If there were two Ballon d’Or, I would give them one each. As it is, there is only one, but I do not decide!" Zidane went on to voice his support for striker Karim Benzema, following the criticism levelled at the 25-year-old as a result of his 20-plus-hour goal drought for France. "We know he has not scored for a long time for France," Zidane continued. "What I hope is to always se ...
Realsport-InfoMadrid 'crisis' after derby setback Mon 30 Sep 2013 . Message Atletico Madrid’s 1-0 win at the Bernabeu on Saturday has plunged Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid into crisis -- at least, according to the Spanish media. Both Madrid-leaning sports papers featured a puzzled-looking Ancelotti on their covers on Monday. AS headlined: 'Ancelotti’s made a mess', while Marca asked: “Where do we start, Carlo?” and listed what it said were the Italian’s recent mistakes. Problems identified by both papers, just 100 days into Ancelotti’s reign at the Bernabeu, include not starting Luka Modric against Atletico, leaving out Dani Carvajal and playing Fabio Coentrao, some “baffling” substitutions, an over-reliance on Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale’s stuttering start, the surprise sale of Mesut Ozil, and the embarrassment of losing a second consecutive Madrid derbi to their poorer rivals. Much discontent has focused on Ancelotti’s persistence with the out-of-form Karim Benzema up front. AS ...
To me this should be Real Madrid C.F.'s line-up, we should get rid Karim Benzema as soon as possible: | - Cristiano Ronaldo - | | - Gareth Bale - Isco - Angel Di Maria - | | - Luka Modric - Sami Khedira - | | Fábio Coentrão - Sergio Ramos - Raphaël Varane Officiel - Carvajal | | - Lopez - | Notes: - Cristiano can play as CF as he is doing for his national team Portugal. Bale played for Tottenham Hotspur as LMF, so this will be his perfect place. - When Xabi & Marceloa will return, we'll have to swap Xabi with Khedira and Marceloa with Coentrao.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Khedira, Marcelo, Morata, & Jesús contracts will expire at the end of next season. -27
Pellegrini bought Kaká from Milan for £60 million, saying, "If we want to win the Champions League and be the best team in the world, we need the best players in the world. They later bought Cristiano Ronaldo for £80 million from Manchester United, Karim Benzema from Olympique Lyonnais for £30 million, and Xabi Alonso for £30 million from Liverpool. It was the most money Real Madrid had spent in a transfer market, with the total cost of the four players around £200 million. HE WON NOTHING! LOL
La Liga outfit Sevilla are reportedly willing to negotiate with Liverpool over the transfer of Ivan Rakitic, it has emerged. The Spanish side had a poor season this year, finishing 9th in La Liga, and are expecting to face the departures of some key players, having already sold winger Jesus Navas to Manchester City for £14.9million. They could also receive a number of offers for top scorer Alvaro Negredo, who is a target for Atletico Madrid. Rakitic is another of Sevilla’s more impressive players, and has found himself on Liverpool’s radar after scoring 8 goals and providing 10 assists this season. Only big names from the top two, such as Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi, Mesut Ozil, Cesc Fabregas, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo, have created more goals for their team-mates in Spain this year. Brendan Rodgers was reportedly ready to open with a £12million bid for the Croatian, who has been compared with Luka Modric, and although Sevilla are willing to sell, they may hold out for closer to £16milli ...
A year before he took charge in Madrid, Real had splashed more than £232million on Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Xabi Alonso, Karim Benzema et al. Mourinho then spent around £175m, with the likes of Fabio Coentrao, Angel Di Maria and Luka Modric — among others — all close to £30m each. Including wages topping £200m per season, Mourinho had more than £1BILLION to win the Champions League. - ANTONY KASTRINAKIS But that aside, do you realize this is not a dream match-up as it is made up to be but rather a match-up of convenience? When Roman Abramovich got rid of Roberto Di Matteo, he appointed Benitez as interim manager and went on to hunt for managers. First on his list was Pep Guardiola, and when he failed with that one tried Jurgen Klopp who also turned him down. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has held talks with Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain and his father and agent Jorge in Paris, according to a report in the Daily Mirror. Argentina international Higuain is free to leave the Spanish capital this summer, and has even talked up the idea of signing for the Gunners. "Arsenal? They would suit me," admitted Higuain. "I'm still young and I have goals." Juventus are the Gunners' clear rivals for the 25 year-old's signature, and Jorge Higuain believes his son and client will make a decision between the two after discussions with each club. "Madrid will want to sell. Juventus or Arsenal? I guess he has spoken with them," confirmed Higuain senior. "The clubs first have to talk to Madrid and in direct negotiation. Higuain currently has three years left on his contract." Gonzalo Higuain found himself sharing the centre forward role at Real Madrid with Karim Benzema, but despite inconsistent selection from the start of games, he still managed to score 18 goals in his 41 app ...

After the events of last week at Dortmund's Signal Iduna Park, Robert Lewandowski is the name on everyone's lips. The Polish striker has become the first player ever to notch four goals in a Champions League semi-final clash. However, that the 24-year-old Warsaw-born marksman is a lethal finisher should have taken no one by surprise. Leaving aside the out-of-this-world duo of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Borussia's Polish sharpshooter has the best record in front of goal out of any high-profile striker in Europe. In total, the Pole has 35 goals under his belt this campaign - five more than the 30 he racked up last year, which itself was his best tally since his breakthrough season at lower-league Delta Warsaw in 2004-2005. With 23 strikes in the Bundesliga and no fewer than 10 in the Champions League, Lewandowski is a contender for the top scorer award in both competitions. Domestically, he has a one-goal lead over Leverkusen striker Kiessling at the top of the charts, while only Cristiano (12) has ...

This source claims that as yet theSpanish giants have not opened talks with Suarez’s employers butare willing to meet the 26 year old’s reported €47m (£40m) release clause at which point one would imagine there would be no way for Liverpool to block the sale of their star striker. Real Madrid have agreed terms on a four year deal and clearly any interest in Suarez is with a view to finding a more effective striking option to offer support to Cristiano Ronaldo, a role that neither Karim Benzema or Gonzalo Higuain have excelled in. With Jose Mourinho leaving the La Liga side in the summer there are bound to be major changes at the Bernabeu and having missed out on Neymar, ...
Ronaldo and Mourinho see red as Atletico stun Real Madrid to win Copa Reuters Saturday, May 18, 2013 - 3:10 AM Football - Liga Copa Del Rey final, Bernabeu - Real Madrid 1 (Ronaldo 14) Atletico Madrid 2 (Costa 35, Miranda 99) A.E.T. Joao Miranda thumped home an extra-time winner as Atletico Madrid secured a 2-1 win over Real Madrid to claim Copa Del Rey glory in a fiery final that saw both Jose Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo sent off. The Brazilian defender headed in a 99th-minute cross to clinch a first victory over Los Blancos since 1999 and the 10th domestic cup success in their history. Mourinho's side had looked on course to maintain their hoodoo over their neighbours when Ronaldo powered home a 14th-minute corner. However, Diego Costa restored parity just before half time when he fired home a 20-yard shot following a fine turn and pass from Radamel Falcao. Real dominated but contrived to hit the woodwork on no fewer than three occasions with Mesut Ozil, Karim Benzema and Ronaldo going close to winni ...
Real Madrid squad for tomorrow's match against Malaga: Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuaín (Forwards)
Borussia Dortmund's head coach, Jürgen Klopp, left, and Real Madrid's José Mourinho agonise from the sidelines at the Bernabéu. Photograph: Kiko Huesca/EPA Borussia Dortmund are on their way to Wembley but only just. Jürgen Klopp's side rode out an opening storm and a late, late siege to reach the final on 25 May. Just when it appeared that their passage would prove a comfortable one, two goals in the final eight minutes, first from Karim Benzema and then from Sergio Ramos, left them hanging on. "I thought if God wills it, we'll go to the final; if he doesn't, we won't," Klopp said of the final heart-stopping minutes. In the end they made it. A 2-0 defeat, Dortmund's first in four matches against Madrid, was not enough to deny them a trip to London that Klopp said was "absolutely deserved". He had a point: Dortmund appeared to be cruising to the finish line while Madrid limped behind them. Gonzalo Higuaín, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Ozil all missed clear opportunities in a breathless start as Madrid ...

Deportivo 1-2 Real Madrid: Late Higuain strike saves three points for visitors Deportivo manager Fernando Vazquez faced a monumental challenge in just his second week in charge of the squad, as the reigning La Liga champions, Real Madrid came to Riazor looking for a warm-up ahead of their double match-up with Barcelona. By Tom Conn It was clear from the starting line-ups that Real Madrid were putting their focus on this week’s upcoming matchups, as the starting XI featured Kaka, Jose Callejon, Ricardo Carvalho, Michael Essien, Luke Modric and Marcelo rather than Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil, Karim Benzema, Sami Khedira, Sergio Ramos or Fabio Coentrao. Deportivo, meanwhile, were in full force with Riki, Pizzi, Valeron, Bruno Gama all featuring in the attack. Deportivo looked to be the stronger of the two sides early on, forcing the Real Madrid defence to react with two very good strikes by both Pizzin and Riki, while Real Madrid seemed to fault in the attack without their normal cast of characters. Phil Jones leads Manchester United's thrilling fulfilment of promise | Jamie Jackson David De Gea, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Danny Welbeck showed stunning displays of maturity in the Champions League draw with Real Madrid As the stars of Manchester United's courageous hit-and-run raid on Real Madrid Phil Jones, Danny Welbeck, David De Gea, and Jonny Evans go down in footballing lore as using the Santiago Bernabéu's intense cathedral as the venue for their coming out party. It was a spine – goalkeeper, central defender, defensive midfielder and forward – handed great responsibility in this opening Champions League last-16 leg by Sir Alex Ferguson. They were to blunt Madrid's attacking forces of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Angel dí Maria and Mesut Ozil while also nabbing a vital away goal, which Welbeck did with his fine 20th-minute header. Jones is 20, Welbeck and De Gea are 22 while Evans at 25 also falls into the emerging player category as he begins to usurp the ageing Rio Ferdinand and Ne ...

It’s hardly a surprise to see that Cristiano Ronaldo would lead the attacking line in this line-up, as the Portuguese former United player is in hot form – again scoring a hat-trick this weekend. But Marca say that Mourinho will have no place for former Spurs player Luka Modric, Michael Essien or Kaka in his starting team, and that his XI will be as follows:Diego Lopez, Alvaro Arbeloa, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Fabio Coentrao, Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira, Angel Di Maria, Mesut Ozil, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema
Real Madrid's 4-1 Primera Division stroll over a disappointing Sevilla at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu featured yet another Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick. However, the result did little to clear up some lingering doubts elsewhere in Jose Mourinho's side ahead of Wednesday's Champions League last-16 first leg tie against Manchester United. Madrid's first goal from Karim Benzema was rather fortunate, their second from Ronaldo was an absolute screamer and then Sevilla pretty much folded. With the visitors offering little in attack - and gaping holes in defence - the former Old Trafford hero gleefully added two more on the break after half-time, completing his 20th treble since he left England. Mourinho would presumably have preferred a stiffer test to help him judge form and condition of some players ahead of United's visit. With Barcelona clear in La Liga, both his matchday squad and team were both chosen with more than half an eye on Wednesday. Xabi Alonso and Raphael Varane were not risked due to their ong ...

La Liga wrap: Ronaldo runs riot at Bernabeu 10 February 2013 00:34 A Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick has powered Real Madrid to a 4-1 home triumph over Sevilla in an incident-packed La Liga clash on Saturday. The Portuguese international struck his 20th career Madrid treble and provided the assist for the other goal, as Real got back to winning ways in the top flight following their 1-0 reverse at Granada last weekend. Ronaldo teed up Karim Benzema to bundle home his 50th Spanish league goal, before taking matters into his own hands with a stunning second from just outside the box before the half-hour mark. The 28-year-old continued his deadly display in the second half, plundering two more goals prior to his withdrawal to a thunderous ovation. Gonzalo Higuain saw red for the hosts at the Bernabeu, before Sevilla's Hedwiges Maduro was sent off also. Sevilla substitute Manu scored with two minutes remaining to provide a consolation for the visitors. Valencia left it late as a 93rd- minute winner from Nelson Va ...

So Mourinho is planning to bench Iker Casillas, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso against Valencia tomorrow.
Karim Benzema again proved his liking for knock-out competitions against Valencia when he hit his 29th goal in all cups (Champions League, King’s Cup and Spanish Super Cup) since his arrival at Real Madrid. His record is only bettered by Cristiano Ronaldo who has hit 46 goals.
Ten-man Real Madrid slumped to a dire 0-0 draw at Osasuna in the Spanish league as coach Jose Mourinho failed to compensate for the absence of top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo on Saturday. With Ronaldo serving a one-game suspension, Madrid's pedestrian attack didn't manage a shot between the posts until injury time and was lucky to avoid a loss to the relegation-threatened Osasuna. Mourinho sent on Karim Benzema, Mesut Oezil and Kaka as luxury reinforcements to try and jump start his attack after halftime, but Kaka lasted 18 minutes on the pitch before receiving his second booking in the 76th minute and his teammates never seriously threatened.
Ronaldo rescues Real, Barca unstoppable Goalkeeper Iker Casillas came off the bench for 10-man Real Madrid who needed a secondhalf double from Cristiano Ronaldo to beat Real Sociedad 4-3 while leaders Barcelona cruised to a 4-0 win over Espanyol. Barcelona, whose goals all came in the first-half against their city neighbours, remain 16 points clear of their bitter rivals and eleven ahead of second-place Atletico Madrid who drew 1-1 with Mallorca. Madrid captain Casillas was left out for the second consecutive game but was called upon after just five minutes following a penalty conceded by his replacement Adan Garrido who was red carded. Xabi Prieto, who was to grab a hat-trick, scored from the spot-kick to equalise after Karim Benzema had put Madrid ahead in the second minute with Sami Khedira then restoring the lead for Jose Mourinho's side after 35 minutes. Prieto struck again before halftime before Ronaldo came to the rescue with a brace afterthe restart. Prieto hit his third with 14 minutes to go but ...
Real Madrid 4-3 Real Sociedad: Ronaldo leads Los Blancos to dramatic win In a chaotic match that saw two red cards and Casillas benched again, the capital outfit did just enough to survive Xabi Prieto's hat-trick to clinch a vital Liga victory By Keeghann Sinanan Jan 6, 2013 5:50:00 PMReal Madrid secured a priceless 4-3 victory over Real Sociedad in a thrilling Liga clash at Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday. Jose Mourinho dropped Iker Casillas to the bench in favor of Antonio Adan for the second game running, and matters seemed to be going according to plan when Karim Benzema put the hosts in front after only two minutes. However, it all fell apart for Madrid and Mourinho four minutes later, as Adan conceded a penalty and was sent off for a professional foul, allowing Xabi Prieto to equalize from the spot. Sami Khedira would put Los Blancos back in front, but Prieto pegged them back once more five minutes before the break. The second half was just as eventful, as Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to put the match out ...

Real Madrid suffers fourth loss of season Real Madrid's fading title hopes were handed what could have been a knock-out blow Saturday after the stuttering champion slumped to a 3-2 defeat at Malaga to fall 16 points behind La Liga leader Barcelona. David Ramos/Getty Images)Cristiano Ronaldo, center, and Real Madrid could not find an equalizing goal and fell to Malaga on Saturday. Substitute Roque Santa Cruz struck twice in three second-half minutes to help fourth-placed Malaga heap the pressure on Madrid coach Jose Mourinho, who created a surprise by omitting captain Iker Casillas from his starting lineup. Madrid dominated the first half but was unable to turn their possession into goals and was made to pay as Isco put Malaga ahead in the 48th minute. Karim Benzema drew Madrid level midway through the second half but Santa Cruz, who had been on the pitch less than 10 minutes, stunned the visitors by putting Malaga 3-1 ahead with a double strike in the 73rd and 76th minutes. And it had been coming. Madrid, missing Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain through injury, missed chances in the first half but went in at the break on level terms after Cristiano Ronaldo - who had earlier erred - improvised impressively to finish from Sami Khedira's cross moments before the interval. Psychologically, it was the perfect way to end what had been a largely disappointing first half for the home team and when Fabio Coentrao made it 2-1 shortly after the interval, that appeared to be that. But Madrid seldom seemed sure of themselves and struggled to carve out opportunities against a well-organised Espanyol side who posed plenty of danger on the break. Sergio Garcia had got between Sergio Ramos and Pepe to race clear and rifle home the opener, and the former Spain striker was afforded several more chances in the first 45 minutes. Madrid, meanwhile, do not seem to know what to do much of the time when they are forced to take the initiative against a side defending deeply. This is nothing new and ...
ÖZIL HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN 87 GOALS AND BENZEMA IN 103 The goal factory When Real Madrid is in a tight spot, Mesut Özil and Karim Benzema come to the rescue. The German and French players are the best alternative to Cristiano Ronaldo's boot. M1Ö and KB9 are, after the Portuguese striker, the 'Blancos' players who have been involved in the greatest number of goals during the Mou era. Mesut, between the 22 goals he has scored and his 65 assists, has been directly responsible for 87 Madrid goals. Karim, for his part, has played a role in 103 goals, putting away 67 and delivering 37 passes that led to goals since Mourinho has been on the bench. In Özil, Real Madrid has discovered one of the great passers in its history. Over two and a half seasons, the German's average is up there with players of the likes of Guti and Zidane. Manchester City are out of the Champions League at the group stage for the second successive season after they were held to a draw by Real Madrid at the Etihad. Roberto Mancini's side needed victory to maintain any hope of progress but fell behind to Karim Benzema's early goal. Real threatened to run riot in the early stages as former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo - given a predictably hostile reception - saw an effort scrambled off the line and Sami Khedira wasted three opportunities. Mancini's three-man defensive system was being easily exploited by Real but City finally came into the game when the necessary alterations were made after the break. Sergio Aguero equalised from the spot after 74 minutes following a foul by Alvaro Arbeloa, who was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, but even a late rally could not bring the goal they needed. City are rooted to the bottom of Group D without a win and only three points from five games so the Premier League champions can have no complaint ...

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is said to be setting his sights on Man United striker Javier Hernandez and is ready to offer long term Old Trafford target Karim Benzema in a swap deal that could just tempt Sir Alex Ferguson. The Scot is known to be an admirer of the French international and the 24 year old Real Madrid striker has stated publicly that Ferguson has made attempts to sign him in the last few transfer windows, this may be the opportunity he needs to finally land the former Lyon man.Benzema has spoken out in recent weeks about his frustration at being left out of Mourinho’s starting eleven and this could lead to the powerful forward considering a move to Man United. •Karim Benzema to finally make United move after 'unhappy' Real admission? Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema could be on Manchester United's shopping list this January, after revealing he is frustrated at sitting on the bench @ Real Madrid. The French international has been at the Bernabeu since 2009, following his transfer from Lyon, but has often found himself playing second fiddle to the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo. he feels he is challenged by his manager Jose Mourinho, but gets frustrated at spending longer periods on the bench than he does playing. 'Of course, I want to play more. I've spent more time on the bench than I have on the pitch since the season began, but I'm going to keep fighting and make the most of the minutes I get,' he said. The unrest with Benzema could open the door for Sir Alex Ferguson and United though, as the Scot is known to have tracked the progress of the Frenchman in the past.

The international break was far from kind to Real Madrid with seven of their players returning to the Spanish capital with injuries. All three senior full backs in Jose Mourinho's squad, Marcelo, Fabio Coentrao and Alvaro Arbeloa have been ruled out for the next few weeks, whilst Raphael Varane, Sami Khedira, Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain are all doubts for this weekend's clash with Celta Vigo. Their absence is likely to mean a senior debut for Nacho Fernandez at left-back with Sergio Ramos moving to right-back and Raul Albiol coming into the heart of the defence. Further forward Cristiano Ronaldo could be utilised through the middle as the central striker or there could be a rare start for another youngster Alvaro Morata.
Real Madrid made it two wins from two in Group D as a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick guided them to a comfortable 4-1 win away at Ajax. The Spanish champions had been frustrated by Ajax goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer for most of thefirst half but finally made the breakthrough just before half-time when Ronaldo tapped in from Karim Benzema's cross. Benzema then made it two after the interval with a stunning bicycle kick from Kaka's cross but Niklas Moisander briefly gave the Dutch champions hope when he headed in to reduce the arrears eight minutes later. However, that hope was extinguished with 11 minutes remaining when Ronaldo smashed homethe visitors' third from outside the area, before completing the rout with a lovely chip over Vermeer soon after. Real had needed a very late turnaround to take the three points against Manchester City on matchday one but they were in complete control from the start in Amsterdam on Wednesday nightand were only denied a bigger win by a string of fine saves from Vermeer. .Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were both in scintillating form as Barcelona and Real Madrid played out an enthralling 2-2 draw at Camp Nou in the first Liga Clasico of this season. Despite coming as just the seventh fixture of the season, the match was touted as having a potentially huge impact on the final Liga outcome. With Madrid in need of a win, Ronaldo got the club off to the perfect start as he silenced the crowd with his sixth consecutive Clasico goal. But a brace from Messi, including a sumptuoussecond-half free kick, put the Blaugrana in the driving seat. However, the last had not been heard of Ronaldo and he capitalized on a disorganized defense to equalize 25 minutes from time. After all the intense build-up, the first surprise of the night was sprung as news filtered through that in the absence of Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol, Adriano would start alongside Javier Mascherano in the center of defense. Mourinho, meanwhile, opted for Karim Benzema and Mesut Ozil. The teams were greeted on t ...

Photograph: Pierre-Philippe Marcou/AFP/Getty Images Large numbers of Real Madrid fans had already done their disappearing trick when Karim Benzema wheeled on the edge of the Manchester City penalty area in the 87th minute and hit the shot that brought his side level for the second time in the match. A few thousand more were halted in their tracks by that moment of promise and three minutes later they received their reward when the inevitable Cristiano Ronaldo cut in from the left to strike the winner past Joe Hart. Ronaldo looked happy enough. He had completed a scoreline that offered a perfect reflection of a match that the home side thoroughly deserved to win but from which the visitors extracted enough encouragement to allow them to travel back to England with pride intact, if without a point to show for their efforts.bi Bony added a photo from S ...

Real Madrid won a classic Champions League match against Manchester City with two goals in the last three minutes by Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo giving them a 3-2 win.
Real Madrid 3-2 Manchester City A tense opening half brought some great saves out of Joe Hart as City looked to be clinging onto the game but a fantastic run and pass from Yaya Toure set Edin Dzeko clear to slot past Iker Casillas in the second period. It didn't take Madrid too long to get level, though, with left-back Marcelo the scorer, cutting in on his right foot to see a deflected shot loop over Joe Hart's despairing dive. With a little under 10 minutes to go, it looked like City might have stolen three points when Kolarov's free kick from wide on the right flew all the way in but again Madrid came back, this time substitute Karim Benzema turning Matija Nastasic and rifling a shot into the bottom corner. And, with a minute left on the clock, Cristiano Ronaldo finally came good for Madrid, cutting in to shoot, with Hart apoplectic at his captain, Vincent Kompany, for ducking out of the way as the shot flew past.
Thanks to Marcelo, Karim Benzema & Cristiano Ronaldo..They made my night..What a game!Twas worth the wait.
Karim Benzema claims he has seen no evidence of the supposed "sadness" that has gripped Cristiano Ronaldo. ...
cometh the hour cometh the man Cristiano Ronaldo.. Karim Benzema *RESPECT*.. Hala Madrid...
Oh my goodness this game is insane. Real Madrid are up 3-2 thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo goal. Presumably he'll be somewhat less sad after cutting inside Pablo Zabaleta and fizzing in a right-footed effort that dips horribly right in front of Joe Hart and bounces straight into his goal. That strike came a minute or so after Mesut Ozil and Karim Benzema managed to fail to score an open goal, but they're not going to care about that now -- they have their lead and it looks like it should hold.
this match was one *** of a moment whn Cristiano Ronaldo + Karim Benzema scored thrilling goalz
Halla Madrid!!!. Thanks 2 Marcelo Junior. Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo!! Lets see how the 2nd Leg goes in ETIHAD!!!. Viva Madrid!
Karim Benzema has explained that he was surprised to hear that Cristiano Ronaldo was sad at Real Madrid, because he had not seen any signs of such feelings from the forward.
Real Madrid's La Liga title defence got off to a stuttering start when they dropped two crucial home points in a 1-1 draw with Valencia on a hot Sunday night in the Spanish capital. Gonzalo Higuain put Real ahead on nine minutes before Jonas Goncalves equalised just before the interval for a plucky Valencia side. Jose Mourinho decided to start with Higuain, leaving Karim Benzema on the bench, perhaps to reward the Argentine striker's decision to stay at the club over the summer. Also surprising was Mourinho's decision to start with ex-Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Lass Diarra ahead of Sami Khedira . Valencia's new coach Mauricio Pellegrino started with three new signings in Joao Pereira, Andres Guardado and ex-Madrid midfielder Fernando Gago . The game began with Cristiano Ronaldo taking less than two minutes to show his intent, cutting in from the left to fire a shot narrowly wide, but from that moment on the Portuguese star was subdued. When Angel Di Maria went close on four minutes from long range it ...

Getty Images Real Madrid dispatched AC Milan 5-1 at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday to round off its penultimate match in the World Football Challenge in style. Cristiano Ronaldo stole the show in New York City, finishing off a pair of counterattacks with aplomb to send the Spanish side on its way to a victory that it fully warranted. Angel Di Maria had earlier given Madrid the lead after 25 minutes with a swerving volley, but Robinho stabbed home a surprise equalizer eight minutes later to send the match into the break all square. However, Ronaldo took over in the second half with his brace before a late header from Sergio Ramos and a goal from Jose Callejon at the death put matters beyond any doubt. Karim Benzema and Mesut Ozil were among those handed a start by Mourinho, who fielded a strong group to begin the match, with 22-year-old defender Nacho the only unfamiliar name. Massimiliano Allegri followed suit with his XI, playing a host of regulars, with Kevin-Prince Boateng lining up just behind Robinho an ...

Real Madrid willing to offer Benzema, Higuain for Man City's Silva Manchester City have slapped an £80 million price-tag on Real Madrid target David Silva. The Sunday Mirror says City hope that Real will now drop their interest after being told to put up or shut up by valuing Silva at the same world-record fee paid for Cristiano Ronaldo three years ago Reports in Spain have suggested that Real coach Jose Mourinho has been given a £45m budget to get Silva. He is also prepared to offer Karim Benzema or Gonzalo Higuain in part exchange. My take Joke of the decade, can't b true.

That awkward moment when Russia's Alan Dzagoev has scored more (3) goals at EURO '12 than Cristiano Ronaldo, Fernando Torres, Robin v. Persie, Wayne Rooney & Karim Benzema combined.
Messi, the 24-year-old Barcelona and Argentina forward, scored a record 73 goals in all competitions this past club season. That total included 50 strikes in La Liga, another record. Many will point to Cristiano Ronaldo as Messi’s main competition, but while Messi qualifies for consideration as a so-called “False No. 9,” Ronaldo can be viewed as either a forward or a wide midfielder. So, is Ronaldo the best? Or is he even a striker? Others showed outstanding form this past season, including Robin Van Persie, Karim Benzema and Radamel Falcao. But can any of them measure up to Messi or Ronaldo? Watch as B/R world football lead writer Will Tidey and world football lead blogger Michael Cummings debate who’s the best striker in the world.

Mourinho will be judged on success in Europe Real Madrid's 32nd La Liga title is a personal triumph for Jose Mourinho but success in the Champions League is the true benchmark by which coaches are measured at possibly the world's most demanding club. The 49-year-old has won domestic league titles in his native Portugal, England, Italy and now Spain, becoming the first coach to achieve the feat, and led Porto and Inter Milan to Champions League triumphs in 2004 and 2010 respectively. Real president Florentino Perez lured the self-styled 'Special One' to Spain from Inter Milan and has granted him unprecedented powers as the construction magnate and lifelong Real fan chases the elusive 'decima', or 10th continental crown. In his second term at the helm of the world's richest club by revenue, Perez has splurged hundreds of millions of euros of Real's money on Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and others in a bid to end Barcelona's hegemony at home and abroad. The job is only half done. Real have fallen a ...
