Six of the seven starting backs are Ireland internationals, with Paul Marshall partnering Paddy Jackson in the half backs, Luke Marshall and Darren Cave starting in midfield and Andrew Trimble and Craig Gilroy selected on the wings. Ricky Andrew, who played against Zebre at Ravenhill, keeps his place at fullback. Callum Black makes his 50th appearance for the Province and starts at loosehead, with Rob Herring coming in at hooker and Declan Fitzpatrick selected at tighthead. Lewis Stevenson wears the number 4 jersey, with Dan Tuohy returning to the second row alongside him. Robbie Diack is named as captain for the game and moves to blindside, with Sean Doyle continuing at openside and Roger Wilson, who has recovered from injury, coming back in at Number 8. Tom Court, Ruan Pienaar and Jared Payne are named as substitutes alongside Niall Annett, Ricky Lutton, Neil McComb, Mike McComish and Michael Allen.
Wallace to make Ulster return v Zebre Paddy Wallace will play for Ulster for the first time in nine months as the Province take on Zebre at Ravenhill tomorrow evening in the RaboDirect PRO12 (kick off 19:05). Wallace, who has made a record 188 appearances for Ulster, suffered an ACL injury against Glasgow in February. He returns to the senior team following two games for the Ulster Ravens in the British and Irish Cup. He starts at inside-centre and is one of nine personnel and three positional switches to the side that beat Treviso last weekend as Head Coach, Mark Anscombe, chooses to rotate his squad. Ricky Andrew starts at fullback with Jared Payne moving to outside centre. Craig Gilroy switches flanks and starts on the left wing with Michael Allen coming in on the right. Ruan Pienaar continues at scrumhalf with James McKinney starting at outhalf. There is a whole new front row, with Callum Black replacing Tom Court at loosehead, Niall Annett selected at hooker and Ricky Lutton named at tighthead. Lewis ...

Ulster Team Named For Heineken Cup Curtain-Raiser Tommy Bowe, will start on the left wing for Ulster as one of three changes to the starting XV that defeated Ospreys last weekend for Friday’s Heineken Cup clash against Leicester Tigers at Ravenhill (kick off 20:00). The Ireland winger has recovered from the dead-leg that he sustained in the bonus point win over Treviso a fortnight ago. Jared Payne switches to fullback in place of Craig Gilroy, who has failed to recover from the ankle injury that he sustained against Ospreys, with Darren Cave coming in at outside-centre In the only change up front, Roger Wilson starts at blindside, with Robbie Diack moving to the bench. Ruan Pienaar, who signed a new three-year contract extension with the Province this week, is also named among the replacements. John Afoa was unavailable for selection but is recovering well from injury. The game will be shown live on Sky Sports 1, with coverage starting at 7pm. Ireland Rugby Squad Announcement The Ireland coaching staff have announced a squad of 42 players to assemble at Carton House for Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, to commence their preparations for the Guinness Series in November. Ireland Coach Joe Schmidt spoke briefly about the selections and the objectives for the camp. "Selection was difficult as it's the first time we have had to narrow our focus a bit and determine a cut off point for players. A number of selections were very tight which is positive. The group is predominantly 'tried and proven' but with some newer faces as well. It's an opportunity to get to know the players as well as an opportunity to have a look ahead and start to get a little bit of organization done for the Guinness Series." There are a number of players such as Tommy O'Donnell, Michael Bent, Stuart Olding, Andrew Trimble, Craig Gilroy and Felix Jones that were not considered due to injury but some of these players may well be involved in the autumn as they return to full f ...

IN RUGBY Jonathan Sexton and Craig Gilroy have both been passed fit ahead of Saturday's Six Nations finale against Italy. Sexton missed the games against Scotland and France due to a hamstring injury, while Gilroy sat out last Saturday's draw against the French with a groin strain. Despite the return of two of Ireland's injury worries, head coach Declan Kidney has some fresh problems to deal with. Brian O'Driscoll and Luke Marshall both suffered concussion during Saturday's draw, so the Irish medical staff say it's too early to tell if they'll be available for the trip to Rome. Eoin Reddan will have surgery today on his broken leg and is expected to be out for at least three months, while Fergus McFadden has been ruled out for up to a month with a rib injury. Meanwhile, Paul O'Connell's return from a long-term back injury will take place tomorrow. The second-row is set to make his first appearance since October after being named in the Munster A team to face Leinster at UL.
Ireland head coach Declan Kidney has made only three changes to the Ireland side which will face France in Dublin on Saturday. Ulster winger Craig Gilroy is injured, so Leinster utility back Fergus McFadden comes in on the wing. Having finished his suspension, Cian Healy comes back in at loosehead prop, and Mike McCarthy replaces Donncha O'Callaghan at lock. Paddy Jackson is confirmed as starting at fly-half, after overcoming a hamstring problem. Uncapped Munster fly-half Ian Madigan starts on the bench. Ireland XV: Kearney; McFadden, O'Driscoll, Marshall, Earls, Jackson, Murray; Healy, Best, Ross, McCarthy, Ryan, O'Mahony, O'Brien, Heaslip (c). Replacements: Cronin, Kilcoyne, Archer, O'Callaghan, Henderson, Reddan, Madigan, Fitzgerald.
Ireland have named their side for the RBS 6 Nations clash with France on Saturday. Declan Kidney has made three changes but has delayed making a decision on the fly half position, as Paddy Jackson's hamstring injury is still being assessed. Cian Healy, Mike McCarthy and Fergus McFadden replace Tom Court, Donncha O'Callaghan and Craig Gilroy. Who would be your choice for the Ireland 10 jersey?
Will Ryan Jones become an outside bet for the British & Irish Lions captaincy if he can lead Wales to wins over Scotland and England? Wales have brought Paul James, Alun Wyn Jones and Sam Warburton into their pack for Saturday’s game at Murrayfield as both teams go in search of third successive wins. Euan Murray back in Scottish front row and Duncan Weir gets first start at No 10. Ireland, meanwhile, have Cian Healy and Mike McCarthy coming back into their pack, Fergus McFadden taking over from injured Craig Gilroy. No No 10 named as yet, but Jonny Sexton ruled out and Paddy Jackson battling hamstring strain.
Six Nations 2013 Scotland v Ireland: Ireland player ratings Posted on Feb 25, 2013 15. Rob Kearney – 5 Untroubled at the back, and threatening at times but in general this was another quiet performance from Kearney who now finds himself in a real battle for his once-assured Lions jersey. 14. Craig Gilroy – 6 Luke Marshall’s misplaced pass meant we had to wait until after the interval for Gilroy to register the only try of the game, his first in a Six Nations fixture. Ireland will hope to see more of Gilroy running in the remaining rounds. 13. Brian O’Driscoll – 6 Irish rugby analyst George Hook described this as O’Driscoll’s worst performance in a decade. Even at that the former captain would have scored if Keith Earls had the presence of mind to look inside, and he’s still the one man his teammates look to for a moment of inspiration. 12. Luke Marshall – 7 Ireland had an attacking threat at inside centre for the first time in a number of years as Marshall enjoyed a terrific debut at Mur ...
Misery in Murrayfield for Ireland as pressure mounts on Declan Kidney Greig Laidlaw kicked four penalties as Scotland continued their resurgence by inflicting a maddening defeat on Ireland in yesterday's RBS 6 Nations clash at Murrayfield. The result piles pressure on Declan Kidney, who is out of contract in the summer, as his gamble to play Paddy Jackson at out-half back-fired. The Scots trailed 3-0 at half-time but should have been dead and buried, with Ireland enjoying an extraordinary advantage in possession and territory only to be hamstrung by poor decision-making and inaccuracy in the 22. When wing Craig Gilroy scored the match's only try in the 44th minute, the Irish finally seemed ready to reflect their dominance on the scoreboard. But the score... ~HMO

4 penalties from Edinburgh's Greig Laidlaw gave Scotland the win over Ireland! Ulster's Craig Gilroy added a try and Paddy Jackson a penalty, but Scotland win the game! 12-8 the final score!
FULL TIME: Scotland win it in Murrayfield as we fail to capitalise on strong possession and territory stats. However, take nothing away from the hosts. A Craig Gilroy try and a Paddy Jackson penalty were countered by 4 Greig Laidlaw penalties. The score finishes 12-8, congratulations to Scotland.
Paddy Jackson, Luke Marshall, Craig Gilroy, Tom Court and Rory Best named in the Ireland starting XV to face Scotland.. Jackson and Marshall will win their first senior international caps..

Six Nations: Craig Gilroy earns first tournament start against Wales Ulster winger Craig Gilroy will make his first Six Nations start for Ireland in Saturday's opening game of the 2013 tournament against Wales in Cardiff. A pair of young wingers, Craig Gilroy (1 cap) and Simon Zebo (3) will be mentored by O'Driscoll and D'Arcy (120 & 71) - is it youth or experience that's more likely to make the difference?

Former Wales coach Mike Ruddock believes Ireland have strength-in-depth (Rugby U) Grand Slam-winning coach Mike Ruddock believes Ireland are "better equipped" for the RBS Six Nations after the emergence of a talented crop of young players. A spate of injuries over the course of the past 12 months have seen a number of experienced campaigners sidelined - with the likes of Paul O'Connell, Stephen Ferris, Tommy Bowe, Brian O'Driscoll and Rob Kearney having sat out lengthy spells. That has forced coach Declan Kidney to blood Craig Gilroy, Michael Bent, Dave Kilcoyne, Richardt Strauss, Iain Henderson, Ronan Loughney, Declan Fitzpatrick and Simon Zebo since the end of last season's championship. Paddy Jackson and Luke Marshall also got their chance in the non-cap international against Fiji, while Mike McCarthy, Donnacha Ryan, Peter O'Mahony and Chris Henry have gained valuable game-time on the international stage. And although O'Connell, Ferris and Bowe remain in the treatment room, former Wales boss Ruddock cl ...

Ulster 27 Leinster 19 Ulster reached the half-way stage of the 2012/ 13 RaboDirect Pro 12 with their 100% domestic record intact tonight at Ravenhill, courtesy of a hard-fought eight-point victory over interprovincial rivals Leinster. Tries from Nick Williams and Andrew Trimble combined with a penalty try to narrowly deny the visitors a losing bonus point, as Ulster consistently bossed the scrum to provide the perfect tonic to last week's disappointment against Northampton Saints in Europe. The injuries sustained by Tommy Bowe and Dan Tuohy on said Heineken Cup duty meant first XV berths for Craig Gilroy and Neil McComb at wing and lock respectively, while both Roger Wilson and Paddy Wallace were rested on the bench, making way for Williams at Number Eight and Luke Marshall at centre. Although Ulster shaded the first half overall, it was far from the perfect performance, as handling errors and below-par kicking undermined much of the good work executed collectively around the park. Just seen the Ireland team for Saturday and I'm very disappointed! When is Declan Kidney going to start and give more Ulstermen a shot instead of being predominantly Munster and Leinster, these internationals should see young talents like Paul Marshal, Craig Gilroy, Darren Cave is also in terrific form! Think big DK is missing the bigger picture! But that's how it goes for Ireland these days, we'll (Ulster) never get a fair chance.
