The 60s still had athletic players. Wilt, Connie Hawkins, Elgin Baylor, Tiny Archibald were not slouchs.
Most of the athletes were in the ABA. Dr. J Connie Hawkins & David Thompson just to name a few freak athletes.
Your buddy lost 30 lbs this summer. Could mean more Connie Hawkins and LeBron moves for you this season! .
Without Connie Hawkins there'd be no Dr. J, either. Same is true for Elgin Baylor. That's history...

Paul Simon and Connie Hawkins played 1-on-1 with "Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard" as the music.
It's obvious that Miami is getting beat by solid TEAMWORK. The Celtics of the 60's would've CRUSHED these guys. Russell in the middle? Tommy Heinsohn at Power Forward, Satchmo Sanders at Small Forward, with Bob Cousy at point guard. Cousy, the man kids nowadays dont know.who invented between the leg and behind the back dribbling and passing. Coming off the bench, the late Dr Jack Ramsey, Don Nelson, Sam Jones-the King of the backboard shot. I should've just stopped at Bill Russell. Same height as Lebron, 20 pounds lighter.woulda tore him UP everytime Lebron tried to drive the middle. Ah.the good old days.Connie Hawkins (the inspiration for Dr J), Dave Bing, Jerry "Magicician" Lucas, The Pistol, Pete Maravich averaged FORTY FOUR a game in college.Walt "Clyde" Frazier.and on and on. I love today's game. But they can't touch yesterday's TEAMS.
What do Lew Alcindor, Jim Carroll and Earl Manigault all have in common? They were all great basketball players in New York city in the 1960s. One, Jim Carroll, went on to become a poet and musician, fronting his own band and writing several books, including the Basketball Diaries, which garnered Pulitzer chatter and eventually became a major movie. Lew Alcindor was a 7'3 inch center and star of the streetcorner ball tourneys. He later became NBA Hall of Famer kareem Abdul Jabbar. At a press conference announcing his retirement, he was asked who the best player he had ever seen was. He had players like Wilt Chamberlain, Connie Hawkins, Oscar Robertson, Julius Erving, and a host of other hugely gifted athletes to choose from. Instead, he chose Earl Manigault, an athlete who never made the NBA. Its up to you to read up on him, and I assure you that you will be amazed, and saddened by what you discover,.
Today is Connie Hawkins & Mine Friday! off to Dana Point Harbor after work. then leave Friday afternoon to Santa Catalina Island for 3 Nights! We're so ready to get away! TGIF!
Now this is amazing: Connie Hawkins talks about Wilt Chamberlain and Jumpin' Jackie Jackson: via

Send in everyone important to Arizona sports: Colangelo, Barkley, Jake the Snake, Connie Hawkins, Craig Counsel, etc.
All LeBron haters - BEGONE! Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Dominique Wilkins, John Stockton, Dikembo Mutombo, Connie Hawkins, Bernard King, Lenny Wilkins, the Iceman George Gervin, Reggie Miller, Patrick Ewing, Elgin Baylor and many, many others never got ONE! And the scary thing is, Miami is on a roll. Who will stop them in the east? The Knicks? Indiana? Chicago? I guess we'll see. And OKC, Memphis and the Clippers still have to prove themselves by getting over the hump if they get to the Finals. Give the Heat their props. All those who have always claimed winning championships is the criteria by which greatness is measured now have no argument when it comes to LeBron. I salute Duncan, Parker, Genobili and Popovich - but this time it was almost. All accolades to the champs! Did somebody say "THREE-PEAT"!
Congrats to the Miami Heat and all the fans, however, lets be clear, if Lebron James is the chosen one or MVP or best player in the NBA by far, then the NBA is far worse a league as the MLB and maybe even the NHL. Mr. James lacks "it." It's just an observation so fans don't get your panties in a wad. People always want to think that they are witnessing the greatest era of anything during their lifetimes. It's fabrication. He isn't Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson, Jim Brown, Gayle Sayers, Tony Dorsett, Earl Campbell, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Oscar Robertson, Connie Hawkins, Moses Malone, or Wilt Chamberlain! He's a physically superior athlete in a mediocre time. Let it marinate and release. God is still good, all the time.
Dr. J, Dr. K, Connie Hawkins, George Gervin, Bobby Jones, were stars in the ABA, Mose Malone too and many more. Moses Malone came into the NBA via the Buffalo Braves when Cotton Fitzsimmons was coach, Moses wanted playing time he was 19 the rest is NBA history!!
Earl "The Goat"! A man who played with some of the best players of his day, such as Earl Monroe, Connie Hawkins and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who went as far as calling Earl the greatest player he had ever seen. When Kareem finished his career with the Los Angeles Lakers and had his number retired at the...
Dr. J on TNT! Pride of U Mass and Long Island. He and Connie Hawkins were the first to windmill dunk.
Dr. J, Connie Hawkins, David Thompson & Darnell Hillman four of great dunkers all started in the ABA! Erving was cornerstone of the merger!
Lebron James is no David Thompson or Connie Hawkins. Better jump shooter than Marvin "Bad News" Barnes though
The criticism and ringless talk of Carmelo Anthony continues which is ridiculous and stupid. Why? because this mans career in the NBA is Far from over & remember guys like Chris Mullin, Shawn Kemp, Dave Bing, Connie Hawkins, Bernard King, Walt Bellamy, Nate Thurmond, Lenny, Wilkens, George Gervin, Alex English, Pete Maravich, Reggie Miller, Dominique Wilkins, Patrick Ewing, John Stockton, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, & Elgin Baylor went their entire careers (ABA & NBA) without winning NBA championships & to be realistic with you if Lebron would have stayed in cleveland he's still be ringless. Melo's Career is fare from over. He can't do it alone and organizations that intend on having him as a player have to realize that. & so do all you critics & analyst out there
How did Connie Hawkins lose to Jo Jo White in the '72 NBA on CBS 1 on 1 contest? I know Jo Jo was a baller, but seriously, how?

If we're going way back, gotta show some love for Connie "Long Tall Sallie" Hawkins.
I used to watch the all star NBA games when Dr.J, Wilt the Stilt, George Gervin, Rick Barry, Jerry West,Bill Russell, Pete Maravich, Alex English, Connie Hawkins,Paul Westpaul, Down town Freddie Brown, Jojo White, Sam Jones, Oscar Robinson, Lew Alcindor ( Kareem Jabbar), Doug Collins, Gail Goodrich, Bob Lànier, Artis Gilmore, Bob Love, Keith Wilkes, Lenny Wilkens, Walt Frasier, Earl Monroe, Benard King, Bobby Jones, Maurice Lucas, Jerry Sloan, Sidney Wicks, Dave Debushere, Bill Bradley and more but the game was so much better with so many skilled players that made the NBA fun to watch. If Lebron or Durant or Kobe not playing it is not worth watching am I right I think so.
Watching the first season of NBC's Saturday Night (renamed 2 years later as Saturday Night Live). The 1st show was hosted by George Carlin with musical guests Billy Preston and Janis Ian. You had John Belishi, Chevy Chase, Any Kaufman, Valri Bromfield, Dan Aykroyd, Al Franken and Richard Belzer in that episode. The 2nd show was hosted by Paul Simon and had musical guests of Randy Newman, Phoebe Snow and Art Garfunkel (for a Simon/Garfunkel reunion). It also had Connie Hawkins, Marv Albert and Bill Bradley in addition to the regular cast. The 3rd show was hosted by Rob Reiner and his then-wife Penny Marshall and had no musical guest because Reiner requested that John Belushi do his impersonation of Joe Cocker while performing "With a Little Help from My Friends" (which originated during Belushi's stint in National Lampoon's Lemmings) in lieu of a musical guest. No wonder the show caught on and took off. Today's show pales in comparison to the first ten years of the show though.
Roger Brown, Basketball Star From Brooklyn, Is Dead at 54 By ROBERT McG. THOMAS Jr Published: March 06, 1997 Roger Brown, the former high school star from Brooklyn who was denied a chance to compete in college or in the National Basketball Association but who played eight sterling seasons for the Indiana Pacers of the American Basketball Association, died on Tuesday at the home of a friend in Indianapolis. He was 54 and had been suffering from liver cancer for the last year. He may not have been the best basketball player to come out of Brooklyn, but anyone who saw him score 37 points for Wingate High School in the semifinals of the New York City Public Schools Athletic League tournament in 1960 can be forgiven for insisting that Roger William Brown was that and more. After all, one of the opposing players at Madison Square Garden that night was Connie Hawkins of Boys High, another Brooklyn sensation who found the experience of trying to contain Brown's will-o'-the-wisp moves so frustrating that he fouled ...

I live in Park Slope, but the Brooklyn of my memory and my imagination is a dense community of ethnic villages where those condemned as outcasts and inferiors in other parts of the nation and the world could reinvent themselves and find a way to win respect and acquire a ferocious pride in themselves and theirr surroundings. Acutely away of our differences, we faced off against another in parks and playgrounds and schools and toughened ourselves up so much we feared no one and stopped at nothing to reach for our dreams. We didn't need heroes to stand tall, but we knew that neighborhoods like ours produced one person after another who made history- from Sandy Koufax and Mike Tyson and Connie Hawkins. Billie Cunningham and Roger Brown; to Barbare Streisand, Marisa Tomei, Woody Allen and Spike Lee; to Oaule Marshall and Ewidge Dandicat, to Bobby Fischer; to Biggie Smalls, JZ, Talib Kweli, Mos Def and Wycelf Jean, New groups keep arriving, neighborhood boundaries keep changing but ethnic Brooklyn remai ...
Billy Lake shared the following link and had this to say about it: Cornelius (Connie Hawkins) born in Brooklyn July 17 1942.Banned from the NBA for 8 of his best years wrongly for a point shaving conspiracy. Connie was a legend from playing in Ruckers Park. Finally making the NBA all star team his first year with other greats like Lew Alcindor and Oscar Robertson he said "I knew I had arrived" The t...
