The term Rock and Roll now has at least two different meanings, both in common useage referring to the first wave of music that originated in the U.S.A. in the 1950's and would later develop into the more encompassing international style. Known as Rock Music, and as a term simply synomynous with the rock music and culture in the broad sense. For the purpose of differentation this deals with the first definition. In the earliest Rock N Roll of the late 1940's and early 1950's , either the Piano, or the Saxaphone, was often the Lead instrument, but these were generally replaced or supplemented by Guitar in the middle 1950's. The beat is generally , essentially, a Blue Rythem with an assentuated backbeat, the latter almost always provided by a Snare Drum. Classic Rock N Roll is usually played with one or two Electric Guitars. (One Lead, One Rythem)a String Bass or (after the mid 1950's) an Electric Bass Guitar, and a Drum Kit. Beyond simply a musical style Rock N Roll as seen in movies and on TV influenced, ...

I was watching HBO's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremony the other night, so I started counting all of the Hall of Fame performers I have seen. In all, I have seen 27 HOF acts, including The Who, Police, the Rolling Stones, Simon and Garfunkel, Billy Joel, Rod Stewart, Ricky Nelson, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, the Four Seasons, The Everly Brothers, The Jackson 5, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Blondie, Heart and Smokey Robinson. I can't believe though that legendary singers like Bette Midler, Barbra Streisand, the Three Dog Night, Gloria Estefan, Peter, Paul & Mary, John Denver, Johnny Rivers, Johnny Mathis, Connie Francis, Chicago, Dionne Warwick, Lionel Richie, The Carpenters, Jim Croce, Helen Reddy, Kenny Rogers and Olivia Newton-John are not in the Rock Hall of Fame. There is a heavy bias against women in the HOF.

Observe the mouth movements of those who speak English well and try to imitate them. When you are watching television, observe the mouth movements of the speakers. Repeat what they are saying, while imitating the intonation and rhythm of their speech. ii. Until you learn the correct intonation and rhythm of English, slow your speech down. To quote the old song by Connie Francis (I think) "I go out walking, after Midnight." Well, that's just what I did tonight. I bought some reflective take from work. Put it on the back of an old hoodie, and went out walking for a little bit tonight. I wish I had a walking partner. Anyone interested?

Enjoy America's Sweetheart Connie Francis singing one of her lesser known songs "He's Just A Scientist".
Random thought. Maybe I'm just "old fashioned". But I really wish Oahu had an old diner with those little spin stools at a long counter where you can get a good cup of coffee and booths on the side. With mini jukeboxes on the counter where you can find Connie Francis, The Mills Brothers and other wonderful songs of days past at your fingertips. Oh, and if they serve fresh pancakes and bisquits with gravy. That's tops too. Just sayin'. ;). Sigh...
On Saturday, when I met Connie Francis, she was meeting these Homeless Veterans and spoke to them, with great passion. This is one of her "causes." Thank you, Steve Rothaus

I will soon be at 12,321 likes. Is there any cooler number of likes? 1,234,321 likes, though it would be beyond lovely in it's massiveness, somehow falls short of 12,321's panache, and 123,454,321 likes would be… well, who are we kidding? I'll wager that even Connie Francis hasn't that many. No, 12,321 is going to be THE cool number of likes that I will ever realistically receive, and it's the coolest number by far anyway, and I'll be darned if I risk missing it's magical arrival by falling asleep.
Singing a praise and worship song."The Light of a Million Mornings", while preparing my ingredients for a non-pork molo balls. Feeling light and hopeful everytime i am singing songs for the Lord. Before my teenage years, my sister and I used to imitate the voices of Anita Bryant and Connie Francis. Now tho i can't have that voice anymore due to aging vocal chords, its already a pleasure and delight to sing songs of love, faith, hope. I know it makes our Lord smile and HE answers it with amazing graces.

I almost never know the musical guest on When are they going to have Barbara Lynn or Connie Francis?
This song, written by the same guy who wrote "Wild Thing," was originally offered to Connie Francis, who turned it down, considering it too risque. It was a hit twice, exactly 10 years apart, by two other artists. The artist who performed the first version turned out to be a one-hit-wonder, though it was a top ten hit and earned the artist a Grammy nomination. The second was a crossover pop and country hit, hitting the Billboard top ten. This artist has had a number of pop and country hits. It would be a sin if nobody got this one.

If You Were Born Today, December 12 You have a distinctly dual nature that, at your best, makes you versatile, and at your worst, downright confused (and confusing!). While a great lover of peace and harmony, you are also determined and fiery. While idealistic, you mostly have your feet on the ground. In relationships, the need for partnering and cooperating is strong, but freedom also matters to you. You are a natural counsellor, offering excellent advice. There is usually quite a bit of drama and colorful emotion in your relationships, whether it's because you bring this to the table or attract these kinds of people. Famous people born today: Frank Sinatra, Edward Koch, Connie Francis, Jennifer Connelly, Bridget Hall, Bob Barker, Dionne Warwick.
Are you celebrating your birthday today, December 12th? If so, you share your special day with these celebrities: * Frank Sinatra - (1915-1998) * Bob Barker - turns 90 * Mayim Bialik - turns 38 * Dionne Warwick - turns 73 * Connie Francis - turns 75 * Bill Nighy - turns 64 * Cathy Rigby - turns 61 * Edvard Munch - (1863-1944) * Ed Koch - turns 89 * Tom Wilkinson - turns 64 * Daniel Agger - turns 29 Happy Birthday!!

We've scheduled a date for the beginning of our next grand music special, The Top 100 Female Artists of the Rock Era*. It will kick off November 21 with much fanfare and celebration! This countdown tracks the top solo female performers and all-female groups of the Rock Era. Note: It does not include a female's performance in a group, unless of course that group is an all-female group. That project would be named something such as The Top 100 Women of the Rock Era. When the Rock Era was in its infancy, you had Easy Listening artists such as Patti Page, Connie Francis, the McGuire Sisters, Gale Storm and Kay Starr contributing songs to the popular culture. Soon, Brenda Lee burst onto the scene, and music was beginning to change. Girl groups soon became the hot trend, with the Shirelles starting in the early part of the 1960's, followed closely by the Crystals, the Chiffons, the Ronettes, and the Supremes. Then in 1964, the Beatles changed music forever. We make that point often because its important ...

In Billboard's 55 or so year history 8 songs have been number one on the week ending on the 4th of July (gee, what are the odds) and they are: 1960: Everybody's Somebody's Fool, Connie Francis. 1964: I Get Around, The Beach Boys. 1970: The Love You Save, The Jackson 5. 1981: Bette Davis Eyes, Kim Carnes. 1987: I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me), Whitney Houston. 1992: Baby Got Back, Sir Mix-a-Lot. 1998: The Boy is Mine, Brandy and Monica. 2009: Boom Boom Pow, Black Eyed Peas. We have made a lot of interesting choices for our Independence Days but unfortunately not interesting enough to warrant an episode.screw it, I'll tweak it somehow.

In 1950, "Honky Tonk Blues" was recorded by the immortal Hank Williams. In 1959, Connie Francis sang "Lipstick On Your Collar" and Brook Benton sang "Endlessly" on CBS-TV's "The Ed Sullivan Show." In 1961, Patsy Cline and her brother Sam were involved in a head-on collision in Madison, Tennessee. She was thrown into the windshield by the impact and sustained major head, wrist, and hip injuries, requiring a month of hospitalization. The driver of the other car and her six-year-old son died as a result of their injuries. In 1961, after a performance in Newcastle, England, rockabilly singer Gene Vincent was mobbed by admirers who accidentally pushed him down a flight of stairs and knocked him unconscious. In 1961, Elvis Presley's 7th feature film, "Wild In The Country," co-starring Hope Lange, Tuesday Weld, John Ireland, and Millie Perkins, opened in U.S. and Canadian movie theaters. My apologies to Edward Padilla; He did indeed get the Connie Francis song correct, I didn't see it until after that last post; Leatherboy still gets his 1/2 for artist. That will be regular from now on: 1 point to fill the blanks (will not always be the title) and 1/2 point for primary artist. SCORES: Jay Kuperman=2; Leatherboy Dave=2 1/2; Edward Padilla=1
Time's up on the Musical Memories unsolved query; Leatherboy Dave gets 1/2 point for knowing the artist (Connie Francis). The correct title: WHERE THE BOYS ARE. Next puzzle: "...So I dropped the drink in my hand and to the window I ran; and as I rode away i could hear her say to Jose _ _ _ ___ _." 0

The Beatles & My Part In Their Success. Although classical music and opera was the go in our household when I was growing up popular music had significant impact in the late 1950s. My sister who is 3 years older was keen on Bill Haley, Elvis and Karl Denver singing 'Wimoweh'. I liked many of the performers from her era particularly Dion, Fabian, Paul Anka, Connie Francis and Bobby Rydell but as a budding guitarist in 1960 it was The Shadows who really took my fancy. I loved that twangy Hank Marvin sound with catchy tape echo. My parents wanted me to learn piano. My sister was already having lessons with a Brisbane music legend but he used to rap her knuckles with a ruler when she played wrong notes and I was put off. He'd been in the RAAF and flew Lockheed P38 Lightning fighters against the Japanese so was no slouch. What's a bit of pain when there's a glittering prize at the end - keyboard proficiency. Instead, I had lessons with Nat Greiner who operated out of Grice-Nicholsons in George Street, now the ...

lil insight of who lee is:this is for my mother to meet an icon brenda joy meets Brenda Lee forv the first time:) About Brenda Lee Musician/Band Brenda Mae Tarpley (born December 11, 1944), known as Brenda Lee, is an American performer who sang rockabilly, pop and country music, and had 37 US chart hits during the 1960s, a number surpassed only by Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Ray Charles and Connie Francis. She is best known for her 1960 hit "I'm Sorry", and 1958's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree", a US holiday standard for more than 50 years. At 4 ft 9 inches tall, she received the nickname Little Miss Dynamite in 1957 after recording the song "Dynamite"; and was one of the earliest pop stars to have a major contemporary international following. Lee's popularity faded in the late 1960s as her voice matured, but she continued a successful recording career by returning to her roots as a country singer with a string of hits through the 1970s and 1980s. She is a member of the Rock and Roll, Country Music a ...
