Good morning and welcome to another day where we talk Soccer Nigerialy, PURELY NAIJA. We kick off the show from our home front here ABK. The ABK based NNL side, Gateway FC 'll start their 2013/14 season with a short trip to Lagos and take on the State Of Excellency's FA Cup kings, COD Utd Onikan Water Front Stadium. While the CAF Confederation Cup campaigners, Bayelsa Utd coach, Ladan Bosso described the Super 4 tourney in Abuja whick kicks off on 24th of this month as not a-must-win encounter. Still talking Nigerialy, Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi picked John Mikel Obi as Africa's best player of 2013 and says, the award will boost the team. Don't forget, the Chelsea midfield enforcer will battle it out with the Ivorian stars, Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba as the winner would be announced ceremony in Lagos on Thursday, but in a sharp contrast the current Mikel's form, Super Eagles winger, Victor Moses seem to be heading to a turbulent time of his career Anfield, following a growing petition by Liverpo ...
Dutch Club Approve Omeruo’s Exit -Clear Eagles Defender For Chelsea Return -Set To Join Mikel, Moses, Others July 24 Super Eagles precocious defender, Kenneth Omeruo’s decision to skip surgery in order to be part of the pre-season training routine of English Premier Leagues side, Chelsea is already paying off, as the youngster has been given a clearance by his Dutch Eredivisie club, ADO Den Haag for him to rejoin The Blues. The initial fear had been that Omeruo’s target of joining Chelsea for pre-season drills and a couple of international matches on tour this month had been dashed by the shoulder dislocation he copped in action for the Eagles at the recent FIFA Confederation Cup in Brazil. However, with the 19-year-old vastly-improved stopper opting to allow natural healing on the injury, rather than go under the surgeon’s knife, he has made himself available for assessment by Jose Mourinho in the Chelsea build-up to next season. In recognition of the player’s choice, Den Haag coach, Maurice St ...
Nigerians are too rash in arriving at positions. I am continuously being vexed by the comments that have trailed Super Eagles exploits at the Confederation Cup. Excuse me, did all of us really believe the Eagles could win the Cup? Is that why we are so disappointed? If so, why is the team labeled inexperienced and Keshi's head being asked for? Arguably, our best team so far is the Class of 1994 right? We so love to make reference to them today isn't it? If you are old enough, can you remember the criticism that trailed their exit to Italy's Roberto Baggio's brace in the 2nd Round? Aha! That the team was not experienced enough to hold out with just 2 minutes left in regulation time right? My question now is, when will we ever have an experienced team? It seems that Nigerians are just in love with the word. For the records, Keshi has just started out with this team. Its still not yet two years. The glorious 94 team, How many years did it take Clemens Westerhof to put them together. He arrived late 1988, fai ...
Leadership Wrong Time To Reduce Super Eagles’ Bonus By: Leadership Editors on June 26, 2013 - 1:47am After their World Cup qualifier against Namibia, the players of the nation’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, refused to leave their hotel rooms at Windhoek, Namibia, to go to South Africa to connect a scheduled flight to Sao Paolo, Brazil, to participate in the 2013 Confederation Cup. Reason? They were protesting the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to halve the amount each of them would receive after every match. Before the minister of sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, could step in to address the national embarrassment, the team had missed its scheduled flight to Sao Paolo. The team arrived in Brazil less than 24 hours to their first match. The Super Eagles’ contention is that, since 2010, their winning bonus per player has been $10,000, while they receive half that amount whenever the team draws a match. However, the board of the NFF said that it had carried a downward revi ...
Which Super Eagles player deserves a major transfer due to his Confederation Cup performances?
Could the Super Eagles of Nigeria have defeated Spain in the Confederation Cup if players like Oduamadi, Emenike, Onazi and Moses had played?
My Verdict about Nigeria at the Confederation Cup leading to the 2014 World Cup 1. We need to "encourage" our players like Ideye, Musa, Akpala, and some others to get into top flight leagues - not just being "the highest and second highest goal scorers in the lower leagues" - it is now apparent that all the hype about them in "Complete Sports" is overstated 2. Keshi needs to employ a competent Psychologist to work on his team - they must be told about how you don't enter matches watching your opponents as though they are watching them play on Supersport TV 3. Keshi must revisit his position on inviting established stars to this team - Yes, Westerhof played home-based players but that was when our league was stronger as Sunday Oliseh attested to yesterday; he should let the younger boys establish themselves in the U21 and U23 teams before promoting them to the Super Eagles - for example Ajagun would be good in this team compared to others here at the moment 4. Keshi needs to get this team to have a plan - ...
Eagles, Spain Game Sold Out …FIFA Expect A Tight Game Today’s Confederation Cup group game between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Spain has been sold out totally according to the FIFA Coordinator for Fortaleza, Marc Andreas Harold. “As we speak over 50,000 tickets have already been soldfor the 55,000 capacity stadium and people are still requesting for more. In fact the tickets have become very scarce and I think it’s because of the quality of the two teams”, he said moments after Super Eagles boss Stephen Keshi and Skipper Vincent Enyeama addressed the world press ahead of the game. Harold said he expects a very tight game that is almost impossible to predict and wished Nigeria well against the double champions. “You have no reason to lose the last game but it happened now there is an opportunity to correct that and I know that Spain too will be looking for victory. It’s going to be very tight for the two teams”, he said.
MALI 2002, GERMANY 2006 REECHO -Enyeama, Mikel, Ejide Face Hammer -Harrison Jalla Blasts NFF Egg Heads Another angle that emerged in the wake of the infamous Super Eagles players’ strike in Windhoek, Namibia is the possibility of three senior stars in the squad – acting captain, Vincent Enyeama as well as his deputies, John Mikel Obi and Austin Ejide – taking the rap as scapegoats for the bonus row that threatened to derail Nigeria’s outing at the ongoing FIFA Confederation Cup in Brazil. Although the players insisted they acted as one and spoke with a single voice, additional reports indicate that officials at The Glasshouse are already setting the stage for punitive measures, which would see the three players suspended from national duties for a period of time, while head coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi will take a heavy fine. Independent observes, though, interpreted the NFF’s reaction to yet another trepidation over the looming threat from ‘the enemy within,’ who apparently will take shee ...
NIGERIA FAILED BECAUSE KESHI HIMSELF FAILED... What should been one of the best years in the history of Nigerian Football turned sour after the Super Eagles surrendered to Uruguay. Nigeria qualify for the Confederation Cup after claiming their third AFCON title in style back in March. With Emenike injured in Mali clash, Our attack has been as dangerous as Akwa Utd's attack. These can be seen in all the games we played after that Mali game. However, after five minutes of INITIAL GRA GRA by the Uruguayan, the Super Eagles took a total control of the game till the last minute. The midfield was superb thanks to Mikel Obi led midfield. The defence was a little bit okay but the attack was nothing to write home about. The goals came as a result of bad defensive blunders and giving away of possession mostly by the CSKA man Musa. Final score? That will have been better had it been Oduamadi played full 90 minutes or we had any striker in the pitch. We failed because our coach failed! UNITY CUP FOOTBALL XPRESS is br ...
SPLENDID START FOR AFRICA, WORLD CHAMPIONS AND THE HOSTS By James Kombe Nigeria, representing Africa in the 2013 FIFA Confederation Cup, produced a commendable start in the competition after claiming an easy 6-1 victory over Tahiti on the night of Monday 17th June, 2013. The tournament, being hosted in South America’s Brazil, commenced on Saturday 15th and will have its final played on 30th this month. Nnamadi Oduamadi completed a hat-trick while Uwa Echiejile scored a brace for the Super Eagles as they subjected the Pacific Islanders to humiliation in their first match at a senior FIFA world tournament. The only Tahiti consolation goal came from Jonathan Tehau, who converted Marama Vahirua’s corner with a wonderful header past Nigerian goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama on the 54th minute. Tehau however erroneously scored a 68th minute own goal to add to the African champions’ tally on their 19th match without defeat, their longest ever unbeaten run. The Super Eagles defeated Burkina Faso 1-0 in the Febru ...
FIFA cancels Nigeria’s victory party A dinner party planned for the victorious Super Eagles on Monday night after the 6-1 defeat of Tahiti in their FIFA Confederation Cup match was cancelled at the instance of FIFA. A PANA report late Tuesday said that the team was billed to have the dinner at Restaurant Atelier in Savassi centre in Belo Horizonte but FIFA officials, citing security reasons, prevented the Nigerian players from leaving their hotel at Belvedere. The FIFA security officials based their decision on the street protests in Belo Horizonte and some other parts of Brazil. One of the organisers of the dinner, Olusegun Akinruli, lamented the turn of events. He said, “It is sad, but we have to understand the concerns of FIFA. We would have loved to celebrate the victory with guests of Nigerian roots.” Eagles are up against Uruguay Thursday night in their second Group match and Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi says they are ready to take on any team now. “We’re on a good swing and the mood is gre ...

Tahiti 1-6 Nigeria: Despite the Super Eagles internal squabbles, the African champions demolished minnows Tahiti 6-1 in their Confederation Cup opener on Monday. The Super Eagles only arrived in Brazil 36 hours prior to kick-off due to disagreements with their Football Federation over unpaid bonuses. However, Stephen Keshi's side showed no signs of unhappiness as they eased to victory over the Oceanic champions at the Estadio Mineirao. It took them just five minutes to break the deadlock although it arrived through fortuitous circumstances as Uwa Echiejile's shot took a wicked double deflection to end up in the back of the net. The 2013 AFCON champions doubled their advantage five minutes later when Nnamdi Oduamadi collected a stray pass and beat a defender before netting past Xavier Samin with ease. Ahmed Musa almost added a third on 17 minutes but after beating numerous opponents and rounding the goalkeeper, he somehow fired wide of the target with the goal at his mercy. The West Africans were three-up ...
Gaiya lied on Eagles’ bonuses – Pamodzi Pamodzi Sports Marketing (PSM) Chairman, Mike Itemuagbor, has said that the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Godfrey Gaiya lied on the aspect of sponsors agreeing to pay the match bonuses of Super Eagles players at the 2013 Confederation Cup competition holding in Brazil. Disclosing this on Monday, Itemuagbor revealed that NFF’s sponsors’ fees was for all the national teams adding that the sponsor under-wrote the expenses incurred by the Super Eagles, for instance in Germany. “It will interest Gaiya to note that NFF’s sponsors specify what they want to do with their money such as the purchase of two state-of-the-arts cars for Super Eagles chief coach Stephen Keshi. Or is Gaiya telling Nigerians that the payment of $10,000 as match bonuses to the Eagles came from the Rivers State governor’s initiative as the head of the Presidential Task Force (PTF)? “Gaiya should stop playing to the gallery on issues he does not understa ...
Although Nigeria predictably and comprehensively thrashed Tahiti 6:1 in yesterday’s FIFA Confederation Cup group match, Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi said the Islanders were tougher than he expected.
Tahiti 1 Nigeria 6 A good and comfortable win...but the Fans expect our Super Eagles to perform better than this! The goal Margin might count @ the end of the day! What's the Major problem of our Super Eagles? What do we expect from this Confederation Cup?
We Can Defeat Nigeria –Uruguay -Coach Leads Battle Cry For Thursday’s Match South American champions, Uruguay have declared that they aim to put their FIFA Confederation Cup hopes back on track with victory against Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Thursday, following their 2-1 loss to title-favourites, Spain on Sunday. Uruguay put up a Herculean fight in Sunday’s game against the world and European champions but, tried as they did, Oscar Tabarez’s side still fell 2-1 in the Group B opener. However, with their next match against Africa champions, Nigeria now looming large, Tabarez has led the revival talk with a declaration that the Eagles are very beatable. While charting a course ahead of Thursday’s game against Nigeria in Salvador, kick-off at 11pm Nigeria time, Tabarez bowed to his opening match conquerors, while admitting that Vicente del Bosque’s men are unquestionably superior to his team, but said he fancies his chances better against the Eagles. “To beat Nigeria would see us take a big st ...
Galatasaray Offer £18m For Mikel -As Chelsea Star Targets Confed Cup Heroics Chelsea OF England star, John Mikel Obi is sure to have his mind on several issues going into the FIFA Confederation Cup in Brazil, as the youngster is being tempted with a massive payday by Galatasaray of Turkey, who have now put £18 million on the table in a four-year-deal for the Super Eagles midfielder. Although Mikel insists his focus for now is on how to lead the Eagles to a heroic outing at Brazil 2013, he will surely have to spare a thought to an updated report that Galatasaray will cough out nothing less than £18 million to land the Nigeria international. The latest development, as reported by The Mirror of UK, is coming hot on the heels of previous information that the Turkey champions had a personal commitment from Mikel to join them this summer and reunite with his former Chelsea pal, Didier Drogba. The Istanbul-based club's sporting director, Bulent Tulun made the revelation after a visit to London, and stated fur ...

What's on my mind? It's the story i read in the press that the NFF have given the Super Eagles coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, the Big Boss, a condition to at least take the Eagles to the semifinal of the 2014 Confederation Cup. I am smelling foul play here, but i think it's not only me but many of us who desire success for Keshi and the Eagles. We have already gotten our lawyers in place, in case the case might arise. I mean, there is absolutely no need to give Keshi any condition at this point. I hope it is not a prey for revenge? We are all watching the situation with keen interest. Because in the first instance, there is nothing Confederation's Cup in Keshi's contract. And i wonder why they have woken from the blue with such an idea. We urge our coach to be relaxed and concentrate fully on the task ahead which we are convinced he will qualify us for the World Cup in Brazil. Wow! A Confederations Cup semifinal by an African Country? I think this is unrealistic and worrisome. But like i said before, we ...
