The current Zambian football champions Nkana, commonly known as ‘Kalampa‘ need to clamp down Egyptian giants Al-Ahly in a group B Caf Confederation Cup match to be played in Kitwe at Nkana Stadium this afternoon. A Copperbelt soccer analyst, Henry Chama says Nkana, the country’s only representatives playing continental football, should beat the Egyptians to qualify to the semi-finals of the championship. Chama told Sun FM Sports in Kitwe that with the current crop of the lads at Nkana, they have what it takes to win continental games due to their level of experience. The home team is confident of overcoming the North Africans because the team has gained its winning formula under the tutorship of Beston Chambeshi who is at the helm of the Kitwe giants. Nkana has bounced back into contention after beating Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia by 4-3 in a thrilling game played at nkana stadium a fortnight ago. Last week on Tuesday Nkana trekked to the neighboring democratic republic of congo where they played Co ...

Further, he is not in the leagues of Maradona, Pele and George Best(who never played WC) *kotha theke je naam ta sunechhey ke jaaney!! 2. Cristiano Ronaldo cant even qualify for the second round, whereas Germany plays a TEAM game!! 3. Brazil is the worst team, whereas Argentina fans celebrate going to the semis after 24 years. Even Brazil reached there!! 4. This is the worst Brazil team ever. Really?? What were you guys saying when this team won Confederation Cup a year back? 5. Messi had no role to play after the 1st round.. ok!! The assist again Switz?? The first penalty against NED?? when Robben was unwilling to take the first kick.. He is the best player isnt it? 6. Robben (30) is old.. and Ronaldo (29) is young? 7. There were no underdogs in the tournament. And Brazil NEVER played a BIIIGGTeam until Germany?? How BIIG is BIG? 8. Germans can rip off any team.. Only Three Home-based … -Agbim, Odunlami, Egwuekwe In; Uzoenyi, Akpeyi Out One sore point from Stephen Keshi’s World Cup list is the fact that only three home-based players finally made the cut, as two others were dropped alongside five overseas-based stars from the initial 30-man provisional list. In contrast with the massive outlay of home-based players that made it to last year’s Africa Cup of Nations and even the FIFA Confederation Cup in Brazil, this year’s Mundial has turned out to be too steep a hill for the Glo Premier League stars to climb. Indeed, a lot of scorn trailed the wishy-washy performances of most home-based players at the 2013 Confed Cup in Brazil, while some of their previous key members – Godfrey Oboabona, Sunday Mba and Reuben Gabriel – have since taken their trade overseas, thereby depleting the number and depth of lads back home. Nonetheless, their banner will be carried high by the trio of Warri Wolves of Delta State defender, Azubuike Egwuekwe, Sunshine Stars of Akur ...
ITALY - Buffon: Our goal is the quarter-finals Italy captain Gianluigi Buffon claims the Azzurri's minimum target at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ is to reach the quarter-final stages. The 2006 world champions, coached by Cesare Prandelli, finished runners-up at UEFA EURO 2012 and ended last year's FIFA Confederation Cup in third place. "I can't say with absolute certainty that we will reach the Final or the semi-finals," Buffon said in Thursday's press conference. "I believe that we are reliable team, in the sense we are able to win the games we have to win. "At times, we are also able to surprise in games where we are not considered favourites. If we reach the quarter-finals, it will already be a good World Cup for us." The Juventus veteran goalkeeper knows Italy are going to have to overcome some very good teams if they are to be a serious threat to win the competition for the fifth time. "We are a matured team," Buffon said. "We have few limitations and for that reason, we are a reliable side. "Bu ...
Township Rollers will represent the BPL in the Champions League as League winners with BDFXI going to the Confederation Cup as Mascom Top 8 winners.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) will have four teams representing the country all thanks to Orlando Pirates Football Club for reaching the Caf Champions League final last year. 1. Mamelodi Sundowns – Champions League 2. Kaizer Chiefs – Champions League 3. Bidvest Wits – Confederation Cup 4. Orlando Pirates – Confederation Cup The reason why Pirates is there is because they are in the final of Nedbank Cup, whether they win it or lose it they will still play Caf Confederation Cup, reason being Wits is automatically qualified for finishing in position 3.

But their implosion in the final stretch saw the club relinquish the Premiership to Mamelodi Sundowns, get knocked out the Caf Champions League in the second round, fail to reach the group stages of the Confederation Cup and Nedbank Cup final in the space of just two months. “To be honest, I am not going ...
Those who follow soccer intimately will remember what I once wrote on Soccer Laduma, about Kaizer Chiefs standing a very good chance of losing both the Absa Premiership crown and the Nedbank Cup altogether for treating the Confederation Cup with contempt. Bidvest Wits condemned us to a humiliating penalty shootout defeat, which leaves me with a big question; Was Kaizer Chiefs winning double last season a fluke?
The Confederation of African Football has defended its decision to schedule this months 2015 Africa Cup first round, round qualifiers during the same weekend as its inter-club competition fixtures. A potential club versus country showdown is looming during the weekend of May 16 with club’s engaged in the Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup action on a collision course with national associations. "2014 has calendar constraints because its a World Cup year. Note too the countries involved in the first phase," CAF said in a reply to a press query from AfricanFootball.com during an live online interaction on April 30. Despite what CAF might say, a number of countries are not immune from the looming conundrum. Al Ahly Benghazi and AC Leopards are set for a prospective tug-o-war for players with Libya and Congo Brazzaville respectively. Congo are already lobbying CAF to try and reschedule their Africa Cup qualifier against Namibia. Zimbabwe too could be hit should Al Ahly striker Edward Sadomba be call ...
Nkana captain Sydney Kalume hopes team can show the rest of Africa that they deserve to be in the Caf Confederation Cup group stage.
Zambian champions Nkana will have a chance to replenish their Caf Confederation Cup squad with the return of 2012 footballer of the year Evans Kangwa. Coach Masautso Mwale says the return of Kangwa will re-energize the squad as they push for a semi final place. Kangwa was ineligible for the early stage of CAF competitions after missing out on registration in January. “Definitely, he is coming in and that is automatic,” Mwale said. “It is a good thing for Kangwa to join because he is an influential player, committed, disciplined and he knows what he wants. So he will be a blessing to the team.” Nkana have been drawn against Sewe Sport of Cote d’Ivoire, record eight-time African champions Al Ahly of Egypt and 2012 Confederation Cup winners Etoile du Sahel.
Mopani Copper Mines say they are ready to help Nkana beef up its squad ahead of the Caf Confederation Cup group stage.

Amakhosi fielded a second-string outfit - led by assistant coach Doctor Khumalo - in the 1-0 loss, which saw the Soweto side exit the competition 3-1 on aggregate. "It's within our right to choose which team to send," Motaung tells KickOff.com. "We sent people there to play and we lost. "It's normal for people to criticise and they are entitled to their own opinion. "The players that went there represented the club, we lost and now our focus is next in the League." MTN FA thrills Sunday; Watch Okwawu, Mighty Jets Tarkwa-based Medeama Sporting Club continue their determined journey towards a successful defence of the MTN FA Cup with a tough Round of 16 battle against former premiership campaigners, Okwawu United, at Nkawkaw on Sunday. Medeama are enjoying a good run under Peruvian trainer Carlos Roberto Paulette, but they engage an Okwawu side which is not only in the reckoning for qualification to the middle league but has also snatched a 3-2 away win over Sampa United in a Round of 32 clash last weekend, leading to their reported molestation by the homesters. Stuart Baxter has chosen to leave some of his major players, such as Itumeleng Khune, Bernard Parker, Siboniso Gaxa and Tefu Mashamaite in South Africa for the second leg after they secured a comfortable 3-0 win at home. Goals from Kingston Nkhatha and Mandla Masango gave Chiefs the advantage in the first leg, and the likes of Masango, Matthew Rusike and Reyaad Pieterse are due to be given a run out. The Amakhosi left Mzansi on Friday morning, touching down in Namibia’s capital, Windhoek, just a couple of hours later, and have just over 24 hours to prepare for the game. 'De Sciglio has a great future' Mattia De Sciglio’s agent has backed the youngster to be one of the leading talents in Italian football. The Milan youngster has struggled with injuries this season, playing just nine League games all term. But the 21-year-old’s representative has insisted that with those knocks behind him, the full-back can go on to be one of the very best. “De Sciglio has a great future ahead of him,” Giovanni Branchini told Sky journalist Gianluca Di Marzio. “His age, personality and characteristics all mean he can be the best. “Even with all his experience in the Champions League and with the national team, Mattia still has so many of his best years to come. “Whenever he’s been called up, he’s always done well – even in the Confederation Cup. “More or less all of his Coaches have focused on Mattia, ever since the Primavera.”

Can Baxter lead Chiefs to glory? 08 February By Nkareng Matshe Stuart Baxter ended Kaizer Chiefs’ seven-year irritation when he won them the Absa Premiership title last season, and now, as they start their African Champions League campaign tonight, he’ll similarly be expected to bring them closer to the promised land. While their rivals Orlando Pirates boast a Champions League winners’ medal, a silver medal achieved last year and also made the semi-finals in 2006, Chiefs can be considered novices in the competition, albeit that they were the very first South African team to take part in it after readmission. Amakhosi take on Black Africa of Namibia in the preliminary round of the Champions League tonight (FNB Stadium, 8.15), the first time in nine years that Chiefs partake in continental club competitions. They were barred by the Confederation of African Football in 2005 after they withdrew from the Confederation Cup that year, but it’s not as though Chiefs were eligible anyway, as they had failed ...

African football federation as proved one more time that they are failure. Yaya Toure ,didn't deserve to be the AFRICAN FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR (note that word), Sentiment is the biggest factor that this our CAF use in picking. Yaya is a good player no doubt infact if any world journalist, commentator or analyst is calling his name as d AFY yes he may prove him self. But base on the name of the award I don't think he deserve it, Let me analyse this:- Mikel played superbly during the African Nations Cup which the super eagle won against Ivory coast (yaya country) and mind you all yaya was not seen in that quarter final match. mikel won champions league/ Europa champions league same last season. He went to the Confederation Cup. His impact on his national team is more than that of Yaya. World footballer of the year is mainly base on the performance of the winner in his NATIONAL TEAM eg Cavalho a (defender). Last season Europa Footballer of the year Iniesta ( won base on his performance with spain mind you a ...

Mzansi Diski Updates| News Bloemfontein Celtic have downplayed reports linking defender Clayton Daniels to SuperSport United. United are looking for a central defender to boost their squad for both domestic and CAF assignments next year. Matsatsantsa a Pitoli have been pitted against Gaborone United in the Caf Confederation Cup, set to kick off in February. Siwelele CEO Khumbulani Konco remained cagey when asked about the possibility of Daniels moving to Tshwane next year.
With a few days to go before the start of the January transfer period, there are all kinds of rumours doing the rounds about which player will go where. Timothy Molobi takes a look at the possible transfer targets Starting from next week, most Premier Soccer League teams will be in the market for players after some indifferent results in the first half of the league campaign. SuperSport United seem to be the busiest ones at the moment. After pipping Kaizer Chiefs to the post for the signature of Lebogang Manyama, United are also in pole position to bring Lehlohonolo Majoro on board. They are also on the verge of signing Clayton Daniels from Bloemfontein Celtic. A United insider said they wanted Daniels for their Caf Confederation Cup campaign which starts in February. The insider said there could be a straight swap deal with Chiefs with Majoro going to the Tshwane side and George Maluleka going in the opposite direction. But, said the source: “The snag is that while the player wants to go to Chiefs, his ...
How Mine ‘reject’ Mbada money HOW Mine are dragging their feet on the Mbada Diamonds subsidy with speculation coming out that the Bulawayo side are taking their time to look into the merits of the partnership since it involves branding rights. The Premiership newboys, who are bankrolled by Metallon Gold, will represent Zimbabwe in the Confederation Cup next year by virtue of being the Mbada Diamonds Cup finalists. The winners of the tournament Highlanders are still frozen out of the Caf interclub competitions. Competition rules state that the winners of the cup will represent the country in the Confederation Cup and the diamonds company will avail a subsidy of $110,000. However, according to the tournament contract, the sponsors will not automatically avail the package to How Mine and they are waiting for guidance from the Premier Soccer League for the way forward since the team that won the tournament will not be taking part in the Confederation Cup. PSL chief executive Kenny Ndebele, however, said t ...

Rainford Kalaba has made the final cut for the 2013 CAF African-based player award shortlist. Kalaba is one of five players in contention for the best player based on the continent award to be handed out on January 9 in Lagos. The TP Mazembe midfielder made the final shortlist alongside his club mate Tresor Mputu after inspiring the DR Congo club to the finals of the 2013 Caf Confederation Cup. Mazmebe lost that two legged final 3-2 on aggregate to CS Sfaxien of Tunisia after winning 2-1 in the final leg in Lubumbashi on November 30.
News reaching the Siya crew is that the reason why former Orlando Pirates coach Ruud Krol resigned as coach of CS Sfaxien was because of an unpaid bonus and ongoing financial problems at the club. Krol left the Tunisian champions yesterday, only a day after leading them to Confederation Cup win over TP Mazembe. Read: Krol's CS Sfaxien Win CAF Confed Cup "It was my decision to leave. There are a lot of financial problems in the club that I have faced with the players every day, and that have gone on for a long time," Krol told BBC Sport. "I am still waiting for my Championship bonus. They have been saying they will pay it but they are not paying it. I wanted to leave the club earlier but we were still in the Confederation Cup and that was the reason that I stayed," added Krol. However Sfaxien Chairman Lofti Abdennadher denied that his club owed Krol money. "We have paid Mr Krol all his salary and bonuses to date. Sfaxien also paid Krol while he was interim coach of Tunisia for the World Cup play- off match ...
Bafana stun world champions 20 November By Jonty Mark Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana might not be going to the World Cup but they can at least go into next year claiming the scalp of the world champions, Spain vanquished on an enthralling night. La Roja had returned to commemorate their World Cup 2010 triumph at this very stadium, captain Iker Casillas even lifting a replica trophy before kick-off. But it was the hosts that somewhat pooped the party, Bernard Parker’s fine goal handing Gordon Igesund’s side a tremendous win. Granted, this was only a friendly, and Spain have far important matters to deal with in Brazil in a few months time. But beating the world’s best side in any game is no mean feat. Aside from the Confederation Cup final against Brazil earlier this year, this was the first game Vicente Del Bosque’s group of global superstars have lost since they were beaten by England in November 2011. How much it mattered to Igesund was clear as towards the end, he attempted to stop Spain from sub ...
Nigeria in a friendly against Italy tomorrow, that's a good one. We want more of this grade. Time to test all of them - talking about the heavyweights, if we must go far in this worldcup. Mind you we are going to the World-Cup this time to better African performance so far - so we'd better correct our lapses now; good a thing, everyone has had a feel of the world at the last Confederation Cup in Brazil. So no excuses for, atleast, not hiting the 'last four' this time arround. Wishing you goodluck Jonathan. Oh, sorry, goodluck !
2009 Confederation Cup when Katlego Mphela scored a nice goal from a Free kick
South Africa will have two representatives again in the CAF club competitions from 2015 onwards. The exploits of Orlando Pirates in reaching the final of this year’s Caf Champions League has afforded the country enough points to move back into the top 12 ranked nations for their club football. That means that the league winners and runners-up in the 2013/14 season will compete in the CAF Champions in 2015, with the Nedbank Cup winners and third-placed team in the league entering the Caf Confederation Cup. There has been renewed interest in competing in Africa’s club competitions in recent years, prompted by Orlando Pirates’ chairman Irvin Khoza and his desire to add a second continental title to his club’s trophy cabinet. But it also arguably started with Black Leopards’ run in the 2012 Confederation Cup when the lowly Limpopo side made it through four rounds of tough competition before losing out to Sudan giants Al Merreikh. That reignited South African fans’ passion for the continental title ...
Kenneth Omeruo By Duro Ikhazuagbe With one leg in Brazil, courtesy of Emmanuel Emenike’s two goals in Nigeria’s 2-1 away victory in Addis Ababa last month, Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, has released a 25-man list of players to prosecute the 2014 World Cup play-off second leg match against Ethiopia on November 16 in Calabar. The good news of Keshi’s list is however the return of Chelsea youth team defender, Kenneth Omeruo, who has been on the sideline following the shoulder injury he suffered during Nigeria’s Confederation Cup campaign in Brazil last June. Keshi is also going to use the squad to prosecute the international friendly against former world champion, Italy at Craven Cottage ground of English Premiership club, Fulham FC, in a high-profile friendly in London barely 48 hours after the Battle of Calabar. Also making his come-back to the Eagles is former Kaduna United star, Reuben Gabriel. The attack-minded Reuben who now plies his trade with Kilmarnock FC in the Scottish league h ...

As if beating the World Champion in one game you become the World Champion! No!! You are not!!! We are the reigning World Champion! & World Cup is not about a single match. Every match is a hurdle. You struggled & we won! Sorry even you are not 'Copa America' Champion. yess! read twice. You are not even the 'Copa America' Champion. Uruguay is the reigning Champion! (though you put some effort to lose the match in Penalty shoot out to Paraguay in quarter final!) you don't even represent Latin America! Uruguay is the reigning Champion!! If you are talking about Confederation Cup, Respect to Tahiti! Even they are the champion of Oceania Football Confederation (OFC). Every other team is the champion of the respective confederation! There was a exception in the case of Spain. They are the reigning World & Euro Champion! Hence Italy got the chance as Runner up of Euro! The criteria for Brazil's participation in this year's confederation Cup was 'they are the host nation for next World Cup'! & those stupid suppo ...
Dutch Club Approve Omeruo’s Exit -Clear Eagles Defender For Chelsea Return -Set To Join Mikel, Moses, Others July 24 Super Eagles precocious defender, Kenneth Omeruo’s decision to skip surgery in order to be part of the pre-season training routine of English Premier Leagues side, Chelsea is already paying off, as the youngster has been given a clearance by his Dutch Eredivisie club, ADO Den Haag for him to rejoin The Blues. The initial fear had been that Omeruo’s target of joining Chelsea for pre-season drills and a couple of international matches on tour this month had been dashed by the shoulder dislocation he copped in action for the Eagles at the recent FIFA Confederation Cup in Brazil. However, with the 19-year-old vastly-improved stopper opting to allow natural healing on the injury, rather than go under the surgeon’s knife, he has made himself available for assessment by Jose Mourinho in the Chelsea build-up to next season. In recognition of the player’s choice, Den Haag coach, Maurice St ...
Soccer Supremacy The finals of this Confederation Cup was more like a soccer clinic where it seems, the Brazilian players' objective was to completely puncture Spain's aura of invincibility. And we must admit, the experiment was a resounding success. The 3-0 drubbing of Spain is all the proof. Go, Brazil, go!
Confederation Cup Final: Apart from Barcelona FC that produced over 70% of the entire Spanish team and Juventus that produced 60% of the entire Italian team, Chelsea FC parades more footballers at the 2013 Confederation Cup more than anyother club in the world. (Nigeria) John Mikel Obi, Kenneth Omeruo; (Spain) Juan Mata, Cezar Aspilicueta, Fernando Torres; (Brazil) Oscar, David Luiz. Add that to the prospective signings, Hulk and Cavani.

The Brazil and Spain style of play The entertaining Samba style made in Brazil The famous Brazil Samba football is made up of array of eye catching and mouthwatering skills coupled with advanced soccer techniques to inspire creativity, flair, excitement and entertainment but the current team now has slightly deviate from Samba by playing thieves football of smashing and grabbing goals but Neymar hasn't lost the Samba touch with his creative and waist breaking offensive moves. Play station (Tiki-Taka) football made in Spain Tiki-taka is spanish style of play characterised by short passing and movement, patient build up (working the ball through various channels) whilst maintaining possession. The style is primarily associated with La Liga club FC Barcelona. Spain's coach Vicente del Bosque is a fan of tiki-taka football and doesn't want spain to lose it which is the reason he always start with 7 Barcelona players. Nigerians are too rash in arriving at positions. I am continuously being vexed by the comments that have trailed Super Eagles exploits at the Confederation Cup. Excuse me, did all of us really believe the Eagles could win the Cup? Is that why we are so disappointed? If so, why is the team labeled inexperienced and Keshi's head being asked for? Arguably, our best team so far is the Class of 1994 right? We so love to make reference to them today isn't it? If you are old enough, can you remember the criticism that trailed their exit to Italy's Roberto Baggio's brace in the 2nd Round? Aha! That the team was not experienced enough to hold out with just 2 minutes left in regulation time right? My question now is, when will we ever have an experienced team? It seems that Nigerians are just in love with the word. For the records, Keshi has just started out with this team. Its still not yet two years. The glorious 94 team, How many years did it take Clemens Westerhof to put them together. He arrived late 1988, fai ...
FOOTBALLERS: CRAZY HAIRSTYLE IS FOR THE BLACKS, WHILE TATOO IS FOR THE WHITES: WHAT DOES IT INSPIRE? I NEED HELP; I have taken good time to observe this in the ongoing FIFA CONFEDERATION CUP even though they had been there among our footballers. Our Black players, particularly Africans, wear crazy hairstyles in the field of play. But for their Jersey, they could pass for the madmen we see in our streets and at the market place. What is this madness for? What does it inspire? Does wearing the hairstyle of a mad man make a footballer play better and score goals? How many of them displayed impressive soccer artistry and scored goals for Nigeria in the Confederation Cup? One of them reminds me of my days in Secondary School when we were making 'guy' with bushy hairs and once we were 'captured' by our teachers after several successful escapes, the bushy hair was cut side by side, leaving an island of hair in the middle of the head to the back to compel us to barb it. Certainly, your ugly appearance as a stude ...

Uruguay are out of the Confederation Cup . Now it will get interesting . What to expect in the next few days now that Luis Suarez won't have football to distract him . The fact is that Luis Suarez hates losing and the chances are that his mouth will do a walkabout over the next few days and he will either dig himself into a deeper hole than he is already in or he will do a complete turn around and say he is staying at Liverpool Football Club for another season . I really wish it was the second option but my bones tell me he is going to be a complete *** and *** us all off altogether. There is one thing I know for certain . Brendan Rogers is a nice polite, patient and understanding man that works better when all the wheels are turning in the direction he is going in . As long as people are honest and fair he will back those people and use his qualities as a decent person to find answers to any problem . Any person who even tries to go in a different direction and Brendan Rogers will put his nice poli ...

CHINA, INDIA & BRAZIL I read this Financial Times Editorial on current Brazil protest at Confederation Cup and an article written by Professor Amartya Sen, a professor of economics and philosophy at Harvard. Sen is also a Nobel Laureate in economics. He related India's economy and politics with China's and concluded why India would find it very difficult catching up with the China. Despite the fact that they were written by two different authors, the two write-up depicted some similarities: the real impact of government fiscal and monetary policies on people - the actual target; and growth Vs development. Don't forget, the 3 nations are large, China and India above a billion each while Brazil population is also relatively huge. Again, the 3 nations, with South Afica, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and a host of others are classified as emerging economies. I am of the view that since we are put in their class, their stories should interest us. FACTS FROM THE ESSAYS [A]. BRAZIL 1. Only 20 cent increase in bus fare . ...

Brazil and Barcelona striker Neymar was a diver and the referee should take particular attention to his antics when the five times world champions face Uruguay in the Confederation Cup semifinals.
3.TO THE LECTURE THEATER OF SUPPER EAGLES OF NIGERIA AND THE CONFEDERATION CUP. I fasted for 48hours non-stop,no food,no water, with Rosary and other ingredients, starting from the first day Eagles played their first match. The overall intention was for the Eagles to bring home the Confederation Cup.But the Power that moves me does not come from fasting,so that you don't go to kill yourself, wanting to be like me.The Power that moves me is in-built.My acts of fasting are always forms of GRATITUDE TO THE FATHER. So,after the whole exercise, what did I get from the Confederation Cup? - God's will (Uchenna). And do you now say in your mind, "God's will, are you no longer God?" And I will answer you, "Yes,God's Will, because Jesus taught His disciples to say,'Thy will be done on earth as." Later Jesus said again,"Father if this cup will not pass away from me unless I drink it,LET YOUR WILL BE DONE". But what is the full text of God's will in the game of the Eagles? - I gave a reference to the Gospel of John, chapter ...
Which Super Eagles player deserves a major transfer due to his Confederation Cup performances?
Could the Super Eagles of Nigeria have defeated Spain in the Confederation Cup if players like Oduamadi, Emenike, Onazi and Moses had played?
My Verdict about Nigeria at the Confederation Cup leading to the 2014 World Cup 1. We need to "encourage" our players like Ideye, Musa, Akpala, and some others to get into top flight leagues - not just being "the highest and second highest goal scorers in the lower leagues" - it is now apparent that all the hype about them in "Complete Sports" is overstated 2. Keshi needs to employ a competent Psychologist to work on his team - they must be told about how you don't enter matches watching your opponents as though they are watching them play on Supersport TV 3. Keshi must revisit his position on inviting established stars to this team - Yes, Westerhof played home-based players but that was when our league was stronger as Sunday Oliseh attested to yesterday; he should let the younger boys establish themselves in the U21 and U23 teams before promoting them to the Super Eagles - for example Ajagun would be good in this team compared to others here at the moment 4. Keshi needs to get this team to have a plan - ...

Confederation Cup: Spain OUTCLASS Nigeria: Jordi Alba began and ended Spain's scoring As Uruguay hammers Tahiti 8-0 Spain Sunday ended Nigeria's campaign at the 15th FIFA Confederations Cup after beating the Super Eagles 3-0 in Fortaleza. Jordi Alba scored a brace while Fernado Torres added the other to end the the Africans hope of advancing into the semi finals. The first goal came the third minute when the Barcelona stalwart walted through a sea of Nigerian legs to place beyond Vincent Enyeama. It was not only a heart warming victory for Spain, it crucially paid back the Eagles for the defeat they inflicted on the Europeans at the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France. Again on this partucular ocaasion, the Brazilain public made Nigeria to feel at home as the packed Estadio Castelao showed their bias for the African champions. The Eagles continued to repel the Spaniards forays and looked threatening anytime they were given the width through Ahmed Musa, Uwa Echiejile and Efe Ambrose. Nigeria's best chance to ...
WHERE ARE THE SOCCER PUNDITS? Truth be told, after 2day's 3:0 bashing by Spain, i don't need anyone to tell me we don't have a team. Our team lacks character and technical dept. The last 2 matches (against Uruguay and Spain) have exposed our team's weaknesses. If we must participate at the world stage, we must have world class players and coaches, not merely boys who are obedient and loyal to Stephen Keshi. He must recall the likes of Osaze Odewingie, Ike Uche, Mike Eneramo, etc. back to that team, while dilettantes like Fegor Ogude, Akpalla, Gambo Muhammed must be shown the way to the amateur local league. We just exited the Brasil 2013 Confederation Cup stage alongside Tahiti. What a display of crass ineptitude!

Eagles, Spain Game Sold Out …FIFA Expect A Tight Game Today’s Confederation Cup group game between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Spain has been sold out totally according to the FIFA Coordinator for Fortaleza, Marc Andreas Harold. “As we speak over 50,000 tickets have already been soldfor the 55,000 capacity stadium and people are still requesting for more. In fact the tickets have become very scarce and I think it’s because of the quality of the two teams”, he said moments after Super Eagles boss Stephen Keshi and Skipper Vincent Enyeama addressed the world press ahead of the game. Harold said he expects a very tight game that is almost impossible to predict and wished Nigeria well against the double champions. “You have no reason to lose the last game but it happened now there is an opportunity to correct that and I know that Spain too will be looking for victory. It’s going to be very tight for the two teams”, he said.

MALI 2002, GERMANY 2006 REECHO -Enyeama, Mikel, Ejide Face Hammer -Harrison Jalla Blasts NFF Egg Heads Another angle that emerged in the wake of the infamous Super Eagles players’ strike in Windhoek, Namibia is the possibility of three senior stars in the squad – acting captain, Vincent Enyeama as well as his deputies, John Mikel Obi and Austin Ejide – taking the rap as scapegoats for the bonus row that threatened to derail Nigeria’s outing at the ongoing FIFA Confederation Cup in Brazil. Although the players insisted they acted as one and spoke with a single voice, additional reports indicate that officials at The Glasshouse are already setting the stage for punitive measures, which would see the three players suspended from national duties for a period of time, while head coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi will take a heavy fine. Independent observes, though, interpreted the NFF’s reaction to yet another trepidation over the looming threat from ‘the enemy within,’ who apparently will take shee ...
Last night match for Confederation Cup: Spain 10-0 Tahiti 4 goals by Torres , 3 goals by Villa , 2 goals by David Silva and 1 goal by Mata. It was an easy win for the World and Europe champion in national teams. In the field were all the players who haven't play in the Cup accept Ramos.
NIGERIA FAILED BECAUSE KESHI HIMSELF FAILED... What should been one of the best years in the history of Nigerian Football turned sour after the Super Eagles surrendered to Uruguay. Nigeria qualify for the Confederation Cup after claiming their third AFCON title in style back in March. With Emenike injured in Mali clash, Our attack has been as dangerous as Akwa Utd's attack. These can be seen in all the games we played after that Mali game. However, after five minutes of INITIAL GRA GRA by the Uruguayan, the Super Eagles took a total control of the game till the last minute. The midfield was superb thanks to Mikel Obi led midfield. The defence was a little bit okay but the attack was nothing to write home about. The goals came as a result of bad defensive blunders and giving away of possession mostly by the CSKA man Musa. Final score? That will have been better had it been Oduamadi played full 90 minutes or we had any striker in the pitch. We failed because our coach failed! UNITY CUP FOOTBALL XPRESS is br ...
Confederation Cup: Diego Forlan wins 100th cap as first Uruguayan by scoring an excellent goal against Nigeria to climax his achievement.
after 48 minutes, Spain 5 Tahiti 0 so what's the point of this Confederation Cup in Brazil? What?
Spain - Tahiti spain -8ah (10bet) ; 1.93 (sbobet) situation is good known. Spain have best team in the world of football (if u ask me). They have amazing players on all positions, many other tipsers are writing that Spain will rotate team, so what? Even if they rotate they are still 10 levels better than Tahiti. Tahiti show how "good" they are in match vs Nigeria. Lot of mistakes in defence ,goalkeeper also made some mistakes. They have only 1 profesional football player in team, others are working in bakery, delivery boys, post mans, teachers etc. On some spanish football sites I read that Spain want to make some new records on this match, something like biggest win on Confederation Cup (8-2) [they want bigger win) , fastest goal . Spain will win that is 199% sure only question is goal difference. GL
SPLENDID START FOR AFRICA, WORLD CHAMPIONS AND THE HOSTS By James Kombe Nigeria, representing Africa in the 2013 FIFA Confederation Cup, produced a commendable start in the competition after claiming an easy 6-1 victory over Tahiti on the night of Monday 17th June, 2013. The tournament, being hosted in South America’s Brazil, commenced on Saturday 15th and will have its final played on 30th this month. Nnamadi Oduamadi completed a hat-trick while Uwa Echiejile scored a brace for the Super Eagles as they subjected the Pacific Islanders to humiliation in their first match at a senior FIFA world tournament. The only Tahiti consolation goal came from Jonathan Tehau, who converted Marama Vahirua’s corner with a wonderful header past Nigerian goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama on the 54th minute. Tehau however erroneously scored a 68th minute own goal to add to the African champions’ tally on their 19th match without defeat, their longest ever unbeaten run. The Super Eagles defeated Burkina Faso 1-0 in the Febru ...
FIFA cancels Nigeria’s victory party A dinner party planned for the victorious Super Eagles on Monday night after the 6-1 defeat of Tahiti in their FIFA Confederation Cup match was cancelled at the instance of FIFA. A PANA report late Tuesday said that the team was billed to have the dinner at Restaurant Atelier in Savassi centre in Belo Horizonte but FIFA officials, citing security reasons, prevented the Nigerian players from leaving their hotel at Belvedere. The FIFA security officials based their decision on the street protests in Belo Horizonte and some other parts of Brazil. One of the organisers of the dinner, Olusegun Akinruli, lamented the turn of events. He said, “It is sad, but we have to understand the concerns of FIFA. We would have loved to celebrate the victory with guests of Nigerian roots.” Eagles are up against Uruguay Thursday night in their second Group match and Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi says they are ready to take on any team now. “We’re on a good swing and the mood is gre ...

So when Lineker is no longer MOTD anchor, who would be a good replacement? For me, having just seen him on BBC3 in the build-up to Confederation Cup, Efan Ekoku. Never seen him in a pundit's chair before, and wonder why not? Intelligent, well-spoken, knowledgeable, undramatic. Hope the BBC is intelligent enough to consider him.
Lugano, Suarez Charge Uruguay -Downplay Worries Over Eagles’ Form -Forlan Adds Words Of Encouragement Ahead of Thursday night’s crunch Group B battle of the FIFA Confederation Cup between Nigeria and Uruguay in the Brazilian city of Salvador, the South American side’s skipper, Diego Lugano and one of their top strikers, Diego Forlan are both charging their colleagues for victory in the encounter (starting 11pm Nigeria time). Although both players admitted that beating the African champions will not come easy, following the Eagles astonishing 6-1 win in their opening match against Tahiti, the Uruguayan skipper described tonight’s fixture as ‘a key match’ while Forlan says the game is their ‘final’. Both players also admitted that a draw would leave their qualification situation from the group in the balance, ahead of their last pool game against Tahiti on Sunday, while Nigeria will settle scores with Spain same day. “Losing to Spain is something normal. Now we must forget that match and p ...

Tahiti 1-6 Nigeria: Despite the Super Eagles internal squabbles, the African champions demolished minnows Tahiti 6-1 in their Confederation Cup opener on Monday. The Super Eagles only arrived in Brazil 36 hours prior to kick-off due to disagreements with their Football Federation over unpaid bonuses. However, Stephen Keshi's side showed no signs of unhappiness as they eased to victory over the Oceanic champions at the Estadio Mineirao. It took them just five minutes to break the deadlock although it arrived through fortuitous circumstances as Uwa Echiejile's shot took a wicked double deflection to end up in the back of the net. The 2013 AFCON champions doubled their advantage five minutes later when Nnamdi Oduamadi collected a stray pass and beat a defender before netting past Xavier Samin with ease. Ahmed Musa almost added a third on 17 minutes but after beating numerous opponents and rounding the goalkeeper, he somehow fired wide of the target with the goal at his mercy. The West Africans were three-up ...

Gaiya lied on Eagles’ bonuses – Pamodzi Pamodzi Sports Marketing (PSM) Chairman, Mike Itemuagbor, has said that the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Godfrey Gaiya lied on the aspect of sponsors agreeing to pay the match bonuses of Super Eagles players at the 2013 Confederation Cup competition holding in Brazil. Disclosing this on Monday, Itemuagbor revealed that NFF’s sponsors’ fees was for all the national teams adding that the sponsor under-wrote the expenses incurred by the Super Eagles, for instance in Germany. “It will interest Gaiya to note that NFF’s sponsors specify what they want to do with their money such as the purchase of two state-of-the-arts cars for Super Eagles chief coach Stephen Keshi. Or is Gaiya telling Nigerians that the payment of $10,000 as match bonuses to the Eagles came from the Rivers State governor’s initiative as the head of the Presidential Task Force (PTF)? “Gaiya should stop playing to the gallery on issues he does not understa ...
Although Nigeria predictably and comprehensively thrashed Tahiti 6:1 in yesterday’s FIFA Confederation Cup group match, Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi said the Islanders were tougher than he expected.
Tahiti 1 Nigeria 6 A good and comfortable win...but the Fans expect our Super Eagles to perform better than this! The goal Margin might count @ the end of the day! What's the Major problem of our Super Eagles? What do we expect from this Confederation Cup?
Well we made it home, though largely due to a huge dose of luck! On saturday I rang to confirm our 2pm flight from mainland Tanzania to Zanzibar only to find out that 2pm was the ARRIVAL time and our plane was leaving in 30 mins. Cue comedy mad dash taxi ride where we joined the tiny 10 seater plane as it waited on the runway! Had we missed it we would have forfeited the $550 flight AND missed our international flight home (oops!). It was an amazing trip and full of indulgences so we thought we'd continue the trend by relaxing with some bubbly in front of the Confederation Cup, COME ON TAHITI! (Hmmm, Tahiti, that sounds like a good place for a holiday.)
We Can Defeat Nigeria –Uruguay -Coach Leads Battle Cry For Thursday’s Match South American champions, Uruguay have declared that they aim to put their FIFA Confederation Cup hopes back on track with victory against Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Thursday, following their 2-1 loss to title-favourites, Spain on Sunday. Uruguay put up a Herculean fight in Sunday’s game against the world and European champions but, tried as they did, Oscar Tabarez’s side still fell 2-1 in the Group B opener. However, with their next match against Africa champions, Nigeria now looming large, Tabarez has led the revival talk with a declaration that the Eagles are very beatable. While charting a course ahead of Thursday’s game against Nigeria in Salvador, kick-off at 11pm Nigeria time, Tabarez bowed to his opening match conquerors, while admitting that Vicente del Bosque’s men are unquestionably superior to his team, but said he fancies his chances better against the Eagles. “To beat Nigeria would see us take a big st ...
Italy coach Cesare Prandelli said he was frustrated with Mario Balotelli after the striker's shirtless goal celebration in the Azzurri's 2-1 victory over Mexico in the Confederation Cup. Chilean referee Enrique Osses cautioned Balotelli after the 21-year-old followed his 77th-minute winner on Sunday by repeating the flexed-muscle pose he made famous during last year's European Championships, reports Xinhua. The AC Milan forward was immediately benched by Prandelli and the pair exchanged heated words on the Maracana stadium touchline. "We have already spoken a lot with him," Prandelli said during the post-match press conference. "Everybody knows how muscly he is. He doesn't need to take his shirt off anymore to show everybody." Under Confederations Cup rules, two yellow cards during the Group stage prompts an automatic one-game suspension. Prandelli said Balotelli had apologised for the incident, claiming he was not aware of the tournament's rules regarding cautions. Balotelli had previously earned the wra ...

Galatasaray Offer £18m For Mikel -As Chelsea Star Targets Confed Cup Heroics Chelsea OF England star, John Mikel Obi is sure to have his mind on several issues going into the FIFA Confederation Cup in Brazil, as the youngster is being tempted with a massive payday by Galatasaray of Turkey, who have now put £18 million on the table in a four-year-deal for the Super Eagles midfielder. Although Mikel insists his focus for now is on how to lead the Eagles to a heroic outing at Brazil 2013, he will surely have to spare a thought to an updated report that Galatasaray will cough out nothing less than £18 million to land the Nigeria international. The latest development, as reported by The Mirror of UK, is coming hot on the heels of previous information that the Turkey champions had a personal commitment from Mikel to join them this summer and reunite with his former Chelsea pal, Didier Drogba. The Istanbul-based club's sporting director, Bulent Tulun made the revelation after a visit to London, and stated fur ...

Shinji Kagawa played full 90 mins for Japan in 3-0 defeat to Brazil in Confederation Cup.
I have to be honest, the Confederation Cup is not on top of my list in football competitions. But this year has plenty of quality sides, and familiar faces as well.
Dear Super Eagles of Nigeria, I'm happy to write you this letter. My happiness stem from the fact that you've been making all your teeming supporters happy and very proud of you considering all your wonderful soccer exploits even against all odds and expectations. I say thank you all very much for jobs well done. As Africa's Champion and representatives of Africa in this on-going Confederation Cup in Brasil, I implore you all that Africa's football Destiny is for now in your hands. And when I say Africa's Destiny, I also include all blacks the world over! Go there and subdue and overcome whoever comes your way! But most importantly, remember the skills and tricks of Austin J.J. Okocha, the slickiness of Nwankwo Kanu, the Makosa style of Roja Milla, the dribbling skills of Abedi Pele and Kalusha Bwalya, the solo effort of George Opong Weah, the speed and stamina of Samuel Eto'O and Didier Drogba, etc, etc. When you consider how these personalities make Africa proud by applying and employing their techni .. ...

The Continental Champions Cup is around the corner! It it time to analyze the Groups that were formed during the draw made in Sao Paulo on December 1, 2012.   GROUP A - The Hosts Group!   Brazil.- Hosts and five times World Champions arrive to the tournament without major expectation. Without a doubt, the main goal for Brazil is to win the FIFA World Cup for sixth time. However, I'm very sure that Brazilian fans want to see their team winning the FIFA Confederation Cup. Simply, it is played at home. Home should be respected! Luiz Felipe Scolari has relied on talents like Neymar, Thiago Silva, Dani Alves and more players that hope to bring Brazil to their traditiona spot, the highest in the World!   Japan.- Asian Champions want to imitate the example from the female team, to shine and succeed on a World level. To the Japanese, it will be the second time in this tournament, and they hope to repeat the performance in 2001. In that time, they played the final. Of course, the task won't be easy. We should ...
2013 Confederation Cup: Keshi's 23-Apostle The list of 23 players to don Nigeria’s colours at the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil has been released by Head Coach Stephen Keshi. FIFA has also released the squad list for the 8 countries participating in the competition. Leading the Nigerian squad will be Super Eagles stand-in captain, Vincent Enyeama, who leads the team as a result of Joseph Yobo’s absence. The 23-man squad released by Keshi has no major surprise with regular guns all getting a place in the final roster for the ‘Champions Tournament’. Nigeria trip to Brazil as the Africa’s flag bearers after the heroics in South Africa which saw them win their third Africa Nations Cup. For the group phase, Nigeria is pitched alongside world champions, Spain; South American kings, Uruguay; and Tahiti who will offer the Super Eagles their first test in Brazil. Dunno how accurate this is but I've been told the same thing 3 times over the weekend and once from the same bloke who told me aba us signing Kewell, Cisse and Torres before it hit the papers. For what its worth... Luis Suarez has virtually agreed terms with Real Madrid. The reds however are willing to negotiate but only if Suarez hands in a transfer request. He will do so by the end of the Confederation Cup. Xabi Alonso told Steven Gerrard, Pepe Reina and an unknown player (unknown to me) about an approach from Real before Xmas. Alonso has refused to negotiate a new contract as he believed Madrid had intended to use him as a bargaining tool. Alonso has told them he is very open to a return to Anfield and Madrid believe they can get Suarez for a fee of around 34M plus Alonso. Liverpool, however, are refusing to listen to offers of less than 50M even with Alonso thrown in. The reds also want the entire fee upfront and not in installments. (DQ)
