I can't lie...being a longtime fan, I'm glad they are not going to the playoffs. I think that both Jim Harbaugh and Colin Kaepernick have been exuding too much cockiness this season. A down year is definitely good for them both. They really have not faced a lot of diversity since they came into the NFL. Hopefully this will install some humility.

Jim Harbaugh thinks it's sad the way Colin Kaepernick gets criticized for his short media sessions
SANTA CLARA -- Jim Harbaugh savored the 49ers' latest nail-biter of a victory Monday, in part because of what it could mean for the near future. "You make a deposit into the toughness account," the coach said. "You're able to make withdrawals from that later down the road." The 49ers might want to keep their PIN number handy: They play the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night in a game that could define their regular season. The NFC West rivals, both 7-4, meet for the first time at Levi's Stadium with the winner getting a big turkey leg up in the postseason race. Seattle leads the NFL in total defense. The 49ers rank second. "Just another game we need to win to get into the playoffs," quarterback Colin Kaepernick said. Colin Kaepernick enjoyed one of his best games in the 49ers' season opener. Find out why Coach Jim Harbaugh compared his quarterback to Superman.
Tracy Funk Boas & Carla Heath Smith I thought you both would like to read this. It's pretty accurate. "Do you think Packers fans would still hate the Bears if they knew how important they were to the Packers staying in Green Bay? I don’t think Packers fans really hate the Bears. I think it’s a kind of twisted love-to-hate-the-Bears kind of thing. The Bears are part of the Packers’ identity. It’s the oldest rivalry in pro football and Packers fans treasure that distinction. There’s a large measure of respect Packers fans have for the Bears that borders on love for the distinction the rivalry provides. Packers fans need the Bears or they lose something they treasure. The most intense rivalries don’t include anything but hate or intense dislike. I don’t sense any great respect for Jim Harbaugh or Colin Kaepernick, just intense dislike. My inbox is jammed with dislike for Harbaugh’s sideline antics and for Kaepernick kissing his biceps. When you get that kind of nonsensical reaction to a foot ...

Coach: Kaepernick has another gear espn.com news services | May 29, 2014 Colin Kaepernick already has a fairly stout NFL resume. But the way 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh sees it, the fourth-year quarterback is just getting started. "I really expect that real breakout year for Colin," Harbaugh said after the team's second OTA session Wednesday. "He just has the look and feel that he's going to break out, more so than he already has. I'm really excited about everything about his game right now." Kaepernick, a second-round draft choice out of Nevada in 2011, has taken San Francisco to back-to-back NFC Title Games and to its first Super Bowl since the 1994 season. This past season, the 49ers lost on the road to division rival and eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle. To Harbaugh, however, Kaepernick's maturation in the 49ers' offense and the additions of receivers Stevie Johnson and Brandon Lloyd spell bigger and better things to come. "I feel like we have a lot of firepower in our corner," Harbaugh said. "I feel ...
San Francisco 49ers Tight End Vernon Davis is not attending the team's OTAs, a source confirmed to espn.com. Davis, who has two years left on the six-year, $42.7 million contract he signed in 2010, has been absent as he's seeking a new deal, according to a report by CSNBayArea.com. He is forfeiting a $200,000 workout bonus by not showing up. When asked about Davis' absence, Coach Jim Harbaugh told the media that workouts were voluntary. Davis was drafted sixth overall by the 49ers in 2006. He was a Pro Bowl selection last season after making 84 catches for 850 yards and 13 touchdowns. The 49ers' ability to re-sign or restructure Davis' deal could be hindered by their need to re-sign quarterback Colin Kaepernick and wide receiver Michael Crabtree, whose contracts are up at the end of the 2014 season.

San Francisco 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh was 'holding my breath' when quarterback Colin Kaepernick went in to make tackle after interception against Green Bay
49ERS 23 Green Bay 20 Is anyone not looking forward to this game? For that matter, is anyone more excited than Frank Gore? If you've watched the Packers' defense this season, you know it can be run on ... a lot. Green Bay allowed 125 rushing yards per game at 4.63 yards per carry. There is no reason to think Jim Harbaugh and his Niners staff won't use their full stable of backs to pound the Packers' front seven into submission. It's too bad Bruce Miller is hurt. It's not too bad that Colin Kaepernick is playing. So maybe Kaepernick won't put up 181 rushing yards like he did against the Packers in the playoffs last season; he can still certainly run for 50. Utilizing Kaepernick on zone-read plays and option runs will make Green Bay play 11-on-11, not 11-on-10, as the Pack would be able to do if it were Shaun Hill, Jim Druckenmiller or Steve Bono lining up under center for San Francisco. Not to mention (but we'll mention) the fact that limiting Aaron Rodgers' possessions always makes sense, especially whe . ...

Jim Harbaugh: I’m puzzled by criticism of Colin Kaepernick
San Francisco 49ers: 5 Reasons Greg Roman Should Be on the Hot Seat No. 1: Let Colin Kaepernick Be Colin Kaepernick The San Francisco 49ers have the worst passing offense in the league. They average only 168 yards-per-game, the lowest in the league. Their completion rate of 56.3 percent ranks 30th out of 32 teams. Stats are courtesy of NFL.com. Greg Roman and Jim Harbaugh are to blame for this. Since Harbaugh is not likely to be fired any time soon, it's Roman's butt on the hot seat. Colin Kaepernick has regressed this season, and the main reason is because Roman and Harbaugh are so afraid of him getting hurt that they have taken away what he does best. Kaepernick's biggest asset as a quarterback is his legs and his running ability; however, Roman and Harbaugh have drilled it into his head to stay in the pocket and avoid running unless there is no other alternative. In reality, Kaepernick has just as much of a chance of getting hurt standing in the pocket as he does on the run. Defensive linemen know wher ...
San Francisco 49ers: 5 Reasons As To Why That The San Francisco 49ers' Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman Should Be On The Hot Seat The San Francisco 49ers' defense is championship caliber; however, the offense has struggled, and with a record of 6-4, the 49ers are in danger of missing the playoffs. The standard rationale for the 49ers' struggles on offense start with the lack of effective wide receivers. Anquan Boldin has been the only productive wide receiver for the 49ers with 47 catches for 630 yards and three touchdowns. With Kyle Williams released after making 12 catches on the season, Mario Manningham's four receptions is second on the list of the 49ers' active players. The 49ers' passing game has only two reliable weapons, Boldin and Vernon Davis, who has 34 catches. Undoubtedly, this has hindered quarterback Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers' offense; however, to blame the 49ers' offensive struggles on the lack of quality receivers fails to understand the deeper issues. Offensive coordinator Greg Roma ...
Oh, dear, the 49ers! How embarrassing. Jim Harbaugh and Colin Kaepernick are highly overrated I fear. A flash in the pan?
When the Chiefs beat the Broncos tonight, I hope Alex Smith dedicates the win to Jim Harbaugh and Colin Kaepernick.
Idk who it is, but someone needs to lose their job. Colin kaepernick is to f***in talented to be played in a crap offense. Apparently the read option isn't good enough for Jim Harbaugh. This team is too talented to be 6-4 this year. I've always and will always be a die hard 49ers fan, but it is hard to watch such a talented quarterback in Colin Kaepernick to have to sacrifice his talents and running ability just because Jim Harbaugh is too stubborn to go back to the read option.
Jim Harbaugh replaced the smartest quarterback (Alex Smith) of the NFL with the dumbest (Colin Kaepernick) bad move. I called it then, and I called it now. Stupid!
Continued.. Therefore, and with that being said, I can give credit when and where that it's due without me being all biased and making excuses about their players, but I am just simply stating the facts, the truth is that the past success of quarterbacks under the San Francisco 49ers' Head Coach Jim Harbaugh gives his quarterback Colin Kaepernick the edge as well over the Seattle Seahawks' quarterback Russell Wilson. The 49ers' head Coach Jim Harbaugh has proven himself to be a solid mentor and teacher of quarterbacks, because of the fact that he used to be an American ex-former NFL Professional Football Quarterback back during his time when he was a professional football player in general with the years of experience that when he was a quarterback, and the fact that Jim Harbaugh is more offensive minded than the 49ers' ex-former old coach that Mike Singletary was, because Mike Singletary was a defensive-minded guy in general, meaning that in as to which in general that he had that defensive kind, style, ...

49ers News: What's wrong with the San Francisco 49ers? Gregg Rosenthal Around The League Editor Week 3: Colin Kaepernick's rough moments San Francisco 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh is dealing with the first two-game losing streak of his professional coaching career. But the 49ers aren't just losing; they are getting hammered. Even Mike Singletary never lost two straight games by a combined 46 points, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The 49ers got pushed around physically by the Indianapolis Colts. "There's adversity," Harbaugh said Monday. "There's an opportunity to stare it in the face and whip it. That's our approach." So what's gone wrong with the 49ers so far? Availability of best players Every team has players who can't suit up. The 49ers have missed or will be missing their best players. The team's top wide receiver, Michael Crabtree, might miss the entire season. Tight End Vernon Davis missed Sunday's loss to the Colts, and linebacker Patrick Willis left with a groin injury. Willis looks unlike ...
Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers cut ethical and moral corners Sunday to win a football game that they still lost. They knew they were doing it; they knew they'd be called for it. They still did it. The 49ers let troubled linebacker Aldon Smith play only days after his DUI arrest -- and apparently right before he enters a treatment center -- and it wasn't enough to win the game. So the 49ers and their leaders really had two bitter losses to deal with after Indianapolis' stunningly easy 27-7 victory at Candlestick Park: For the first time in the Harbaugh era, the 49ers have dropped two games in a row and for the first time they're under .500, at 1-2 and two games behind Seattle in the NFC West. Yes, the 49ers have never looked so stagnant or frustrated in the Harbaugh era. "I think we are stopping ourselves," quarterback Colin Kaepernick said. Really, the 49ers' current offensive woes are a bit reminiscent of the Mike Singletary era, which is not something 49ers fans -- or the 49ers -- ever want to experience. A ...
-- The price for hitting an NFL quarterback late is $15,000. That's what Green Bay Packers outside linebacker Clay Matthews found out Friday. In the second quarter of the Packers' Week 1 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, Colin Kaepernick scrambled and stepped out of bounds when Matthews leaped at him at a fully horizontal angle and tackled him after the whistle. The technical reason that Matthews was fined, according to an NFL spokesperson, was for "striking an opponent late." Matthews was not fined for anything that went on in the post-play scuffle. Matthews and 49ers offensive tackle Joe Staley fought briefly, with Staley being flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. San Francisco Coach Jim Harbaugh thought Matthews threw "two punches to Joe's head; well, one punch and one open slap." Harbaugh criticized Matthews that both shots weren't punches. "If you're going to go to the face, come with some knuckles, not an open slap," Harbaugh told reporters Monday in San Francisco. "That young man (Matthews) wor ...
49ers head Coach Jim Harbaugh wasn't happy with Packers Clay Matthews late out of bounds hit on his QB Colin Kaepernick on Sunday. "That certainly was a cheap shot," the San Francisco 49ers coach told reporters Monday. "Launching, clotheslining to the neck/head area. That was a bad play." Matthews response in typical fashion, "I'm an awesome player, I'm not a dirty player." Should Matthews have been hit with a big fine?
I hope Clay Matthews lays Colin Kaepernick out tomorrow, then jogs in front of Jim Harbaugh and does this
We're just under two months from the start of America's Sport's 2013 season and since the experts are predicting season finishes, I figured I would too. Over the next 4 days, I will give my predictions and analysis on the 2013 NFL season. Today: The AFC East and NFC West. Predictions for NFC West: This is one of the toughest divisions to gauge (well, the Arizona Cardinals were easy) but I think the Super Bowl champions will come from the NFC West. 1. Seattle Seahawks (11-5) A new classic rivalry is in the making with Pete Carroll's Seahawks and Jim Harbaugh's 49ers but the first to win a Super Bowl will be Pete Carroll. That's right, the Seattle Seahawks will be my prediction for the 2014 Super Bowl champions. They added a good weapon (WR/KR Percy Harvin) to an already explosive offense and Head Coach Pete Carroll is still making smart draft moves to reload on an already good defense. 2. St. Louis Rams (10-6) I believe in Head Coach Jeff Fisher's defense, I believe in QB Sam Bradford improving with addi . ...

49ers grab Boldin from Ravens SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- SANTA CLARA, Calif. -You can almost hear a testy Pete Carroll asking Jim Harbaugh once again: "What's your deal?" Shortly after Carroll's Seattle Seahawks traded for Percy Harvin from the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, Harbaugh's 49ers dealt for their own playmaking receiver in Anquan Boldin from the Baltimore Ravens. Yes, that's the same Anquan Boldin who helped spark the Baltimore Ravens' Super Bowl win over the 49ers last month. His price tag: a mere sixth-round draft pick next month. Report: Ravens trade Boldin to 49ers On the eve of the free-agent signing period, the 49ers reportedly made a major splash with the addition of wide receiver Anquan Boldin in a trade from the Baltimore Ravens for a sixth-round draft pick. Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun first reported the news of the deal that sends Boldin from John Harbaugh's Ravens to Jim Harbaugh's 49ers. Boldin, a 10-year veteran, was a key figure in the Ravens' 34-31 victory over the 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII with six receptions for 104 yards and one touchdown. Boldin, who played the first seven seasons of his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals, caught 65 passes for 921 yards and four touchdowns last season. He is scheduled to earn $6 million in base salary in 2013. Boldin joins a 49ers receiving corps that features Michael Crabtree, who led the 49ers last season with 85 receptions for 1,105 yards and nine touchdowns. Mario Manningham and Kyle Williams sustained season-ending ACL tears. Manningham, the 49ers' No. 2 receiver, is ...
Jim Harbaugh tapped Colin Kaepernick as best player: Jim Harbaugh doesn't part with information easily, even in a private talk with h...
49ers Breakdown: By John Breech Team overview: If you don't count the first two quarters of Super Bowl XLVII or David Akers' entire season, the 49ers were almost perfect in 2012. The defense finished the season ranked third in the NFL and the offense wasn't too shabby either, ranking 11th overall -- but lets talk more about the defense. The 49ers defense had four All-Pro players, including linebackers NaVorro Bowman -- who finished second in the league in tackles -- and Aldon Smith, whose 19.5 sacks in 2012 trailed only J.J. Watts' 20.5. Offensively, Coach Jim Harbaugh's decision to start Colin Kaepernick is the gift that keeps on giving for San Francisco. First, it paid off when Kaepernick led the 49ers to the Super Bowl. Then it paid off again when the 49ers were able to send backup Alex Smith to the Chiefs for a 2013 second-round draft pick and a conditional 2014 pick. The trade will free up $9.75 million in cap space for the 49ers. Except for taking receiver A.J. Jenkins in the first round of the 2012 ...
On the day that he rejected to openly title a beginning quarterback, 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh informed incumbent Alex Cruz that Colin Kaepernick would obtain the jerk Sunday at New Orleans,
Colin Kaepernick had nothing but praise for the man he replaced as the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. In an interview with the NFL Network, Kaepernick said Alex Smith will thrive no matter which team he plays for while also hailing him as a great teammate and teacher. The 49ers have agreed to trade Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs, a deal that cannot be made official until March 12. "Of course, nothing can be finalized yet. Whether Alex is with us or he's somewhere else next season, he's been a great teammate to me," Kaepernick said. "[He's] been a great friend, a great mentor. So anywhere he goes, or if he's still with us, he's gonna be successful." In just his second season out of Nevada, Kaepernick took over as the 49ers' starting quarterback after Smith went down with a concussion in Week 10. With Kaepernick possessing an explosive run/pass element to his game, Coach Jim Harbaugh opted to keep him as the starter even after Smith was cleared to return. Kaepernick said Smith, who lost ...

Congrats to the KC Chiefs on acquiring Alex Smith. Much love! He's too classy for San Fran & pukes like Jim Harbaugh & Colin The Bug Kaepernick anyway. God I miss football!!
I hope Colin Kaepernick just blows next season, so Jim Harbaugh will look like an *** for trading Alex Smith.
The former starting quarterback of the San Fransisco 49ers, Alex Smith, has just been traded to the Kansas City Chiefs who now have their QB that they have desparetley needed for years. The 49ers will recieve a 2nd Round Draft Pick for 2013, and a conditional draft pick for 2014. The trade isn't official until March 12th, but it is 100% for sure going to happen. Also, the Niners have reported some interest in the NY Jets' Darelle Revis, who was injured for the most of last season. Adding this solid cornerback, that the Niners need, would add to their already lethal defense, along with a stingy offense that includes Colin Kaepernick, Michael Crabtree, Vernon Davis, and Frank Gore. Be on the lookout for more deals as they pop up.

Chiefs acquire QB Alex Smith from 49ers for 2nd-round and conditional mid-rounder Jim Harbaugh is a genius. Alex Smith was considered to be a candidate for release when Harbaugh took over as Head Coach of the 49ers. However, Harbaugh claimed that he was a fan of Smith's when the Utah product entered the league. Harbaugh then coached him up and turned him into a solid starter. It was obvious though that Smith would never lead the 49ers to a Super Bowl because of his limitations. That's why Harbaugh made the obvious choice to go with Colin Kaepernick. Well, it was obvious to everyone except the Chiefs. This is an absolutely terrible trade for them. Smith, without Harbaugh, is a pedestrian signal-caller at best. He'll regress without Harbaugh, just as Matt Cassel did when he lost Charlie Weis. Andy Reid has been good with quarterbacks, but he's no Harbaugh
What do Joe Montana,Steve Young, and Colin Kaepernick all have in common besides being QB's of the San Francisco 49ers that separates them from the other QB's of the 49ers.
It's hard to imagine Alex Smith being a member of the San Francisco 49ers next season. That said, Jim Harbaugh is doing his best not to show the team's hand. The 49ers coach said Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis that the team is "unlikely" to release Smith, who lost his starting quarterback job to Colin Kaepernick this past season. "(He's) an excellent football player," Harbaugh said at the combine, via The Plain Dealer. "He's really playing the best football of his career the last two years. We think we've got the best quarterback situation in the National Football League. (We) feel strongly about that. So what will happen with Alex Smith?
Jim Harbaugh stopped by the NFL Network set to discuss the play of Colin Kaepernick and the scouting process at the NFL Combine. VIDEO:
The two smartest 49ers? They might just be receivers Ricardo Lockette and Chad Hall, who have decided to spend their offseason alongside Colin Kaepernick, thereby guaranteeing themselves the most rigo
Had to delete Colin Kaepernick from Athletes I like. Sorry Niner fans. Hey, I think he'll be better next year and is headed for greatness. But I don't care about 2nd best. Our undefeated Super Bowl record is capped (or should I say Kaeped). It's much more Jim Harbaugh's fault than Kaepernick's. However, he was and still is showboating like some kind of celebrity. Earn your stripes Junior, then pose in the end zone and flash your tatts across America. And, if you find maturity along this road, you won't pose, you will let your fans lift you higher than you lift yourself. Flaco didn't show off. Montana never did. Young didn't. Hmmm, did Lott, Rice or Young ever show off, brag about themselves or say stupid things that erode team spirit going into the Super Bowl??? If my old grey matter serves correctly.. I don't think so.
A.J. Jenkins Looks to Expand Role Posted Feb 11, 2013 Taylor Price 49ers.comGoal Posts Blog It was a “humbling” rookie season for San Francisco 49ers first-round draft pick A.J. Jenkins, but also an experience he won’t soon forget. Jenkins was active for four regular season games and one playoff game in 2012, yet he made no receptions for the NFC Champions. Because of his unique rookie experience, the 6-foot, 192-pound wide receiver doesn’t plan on treating his first professional offseason as time off. Instead, Jenkins wants to work out in the Bay Area, catch passes from his quarterback and earn a greater role on the 49ers offense. “It’s not really an offseason for me,” said Jenkins, the No. 30 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft out of Illinois. “I’m going to use all this free time I have to try and get an edge.” It sounds like the young wideout has been closely listening to the words of his coach, Jim Harbaugh. The 49ers coach stressed the importance of players and coaches taking time ...
Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith made the biggest play of life Sunday night, breaking up a Colin Kaepernick pass intended for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree that essentially decided Super Bowl XLVII. Of course, whether Smith's coverage of Crabtree was legal is a matter of opinion. He thinks i was. The Niners -- including Coach Jim Harbaugh -- believe Smith should've been flagged for defensive holding or pass interference on the fourth-and-goal play from the Ravens' 5-yard line. What do you think?
I know I'm a few days behind, but here's my Super Bowl take. Turned out to be a great game. The power outage definitely slowed Baltimore's momentum and allowed SF back in the game. Colin Kaepernick is a stud. Love the way he plays. Jim Harbaugh had a legit beef that Michael Crabtree was held on SF's last offensive play, but the refs didn't call anything the whole game in regards to the corners putting their hands on the receivers. Honestly, though, he wouldn't have had to beg for a call if he would have used his last time out before the Niners last play. Get a look at the D, call a timeout, take a moment to chat, and go win the game.
Today's Morning Tailgate spotlights the exit day comments of Colin Kaepernick & Jim Harbaugh on the 2012 49ers season.
Facing 2nd-and-goal at the 5-yard line, Colin Kaepernick tossed three straight incompletions that were intended for wide receiver Michael Crabtree. Kaepernick said he called an audible on fourth down when he saw Crabtree in single coverage against Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith. Baltimore, which wa...
Jim Harbaugh today said that players who want out of their contracts don't have those wishes granted. Then again, he said that every scenario is unique. The current situation...
Yeah. The 49ers lost... It *** .. I've waited 18 years since the day Steve Young won the Niners their 5th trophy. I remember jumping up and down in my crib when I was 2 years old, when they won... :P I've waited so long see them back in the Super Bowl for their sixth trophy.. Sadly, they fell short. That was a BEAST second half. Just not good enough. I've waited patiently for that day. I was a faithful fan through the difficult years, when they were finishing seasons off like 4-12, 3-13, and so on. I was a fan when Alex Smith first arrived, and his rookie season was a disaster, throwing only 1 TD pass all season and picked off 23 times... Fan through all the offensive coordinator and Head Coach changes... But these last two years have been some of the best, thanks to the arrival of Jim Harbaugh and Colin Kaepernick. Harbaugh turned around Alex Smith, making him improve substantially. Beating the Saints in the playoffs last year, and beating the Packers at Lambeau this year... Anyway, I'm always going to . ...
Jim Harbaugh had a chance to validate his bold move to start Colin Kaepernick with a bold play call to use his legs in the final moments of Super Bowl XLVII. His decision to pass was a setback for the NFL's do-it-all QB movement.
Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett is as conservative as a blue blazer, gray slacks and black wing tips. It's time for a change. Garrett should try wearing Robert Graham shirt -- the more colorful the cuffs, the better --- and a pair of designer jeans from a consignment shop in the Bishop Arts district. For Garrett to keep his job as coach of the Dallas Cowboys for more than one more season, he must leave his comfort zone and the conservative approach he's used with the Cowboys and be bold next season. Understand, this ain't about trick plays. Or going for it on fourth down. It's about a mindset that shows his team winning is all that matters. Garrett must have the self-confidence and courage to make a bold move when the opportunity presents itself. That's the only way Garrett can remove this once-proud franchise from the muck of mediocrity. Garrett can look to each Super Bowl team for example. San Francisco Coach Jim Harbaugh benched Alex Smith, then the NFL's top-rated passer, for Colin Kaepernick, who ...

Well, just as I suspected - Jim Harbaugh couldn't lose with class, whining about the non-call in the end zone, as well as the PI on Culliver on 3rd and 9 earlier in the game. Hey, Jim, what about the non-call personal foul hit by Ray McDonald out-of-bounds on Joe Flacco on 3rd and goal, which would have resulted in a Ravens 1st and goal on the 1? I did not hear or see Big Brother, Flacco, or any of the other Ravens whining about that when it happened. Face it, Jim, you were thoroughly outcoached by Big Brother who had a great defensive game plan, at least in the 1st half. And your play selection for 4 plays on 1st and goal at the 5? Were you advised by Mike Singletary? Even Frank Gore, who I thought was a class act, was whining about being the better team, sounding like Matt Leinart after the 2006 Rose Bowl after he got punked by Texas. It seems that the only stand-up 49er that I saw after the game was Colin Kaepernick who, in addition to being one *** of a player, is really a class act.
QB Colin Kaepernick rallies from slow start, nearly leads another 49ers comeback in Super Bowl 02-04-2013 01:36 AM MST |By JANIE McCAULEY, AP Sports Writer Enlarge This Image Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones (12) catches a 56-yard touchdown pass against San Francisco 49ers cornerback Tarell Brown (25) during the first half of the NFL the Super Bowl XLVII football game, Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, in New Orleans. (AP Photo/Gene Puskar) New Orleans (Associated Press) -- Under pressure and off balance, Colin Kaepernick released a fourth-down throw into the end zone with the outcome of the Super Bowl hanging in the balance. Everyone in the Superdome could see that the ball wasn't caught as it sailed over Michael Crabtree. Enraged San Francisco Coach Jim Harbaugh argued for why: He thought Crabtree got held, bumped by cornerback Jimmy Smith with safety Ed Reed trailing the play. "There's no question in my mind that there was a pass interference and then a hold on Crabtree on the last one," Harbaugh said. ...
Jim Harbaugh refused to come out for the post-game interview. Instead of taking the opportunity to talk about the heart and character of your team, a great comeback and the budding superstar you have in QB Colin Kaepernick, he chose to uphold his reputation as an a-hole and sit in the dressing room and pout. Nice job, Jim.
So happy about this win. Go screw yourself, Jim Harbaugh. I don't care how talented Colin Kaepernick is...I hate that you abandoned Alex Smith.
So...are Colin Kaepernick and Jim Harbaugh STILL the best things since sliced bread? All I know is that Eli and Coughlin haven't lost any Super Bowls...Booyah!
Even though we lost, I appreciate the fact that our Niners worked their *** off to give us a good and close game. I am incredibly proud of our team and I thank Jim Harbaugh, Colin Kaepernick, and even Alex Smith for giving us a wonderful season. NOW IT IS TIME TO BRING ON THE SF GIANTS BASEBALL.
Congratulations to Colin Kaepernick & Jim Harbaugh for giving San Francisco their first ever Super Bowl Loss. Good Job Guys. But on a real serious note. Congratulations to the Baltimore Ravens & Ray Lewis for their Super Bowl Victory tonight. Enjoy your retirement Ray.
Jim Harbaugh will step in for Colin Kaepernick as QB, not Alex Smith.
I feel like its the first day at a new job, Christmas when I was kid, the night before my wedding, when I found I was going to be a father, and when I got arrested all combined into one. Approximately 18 years ago I became a 49ers fan when I watched them beat the Chargers 49-26 and Steve Young threw a Super Bowl record 6 touchdown passes. Since then I watched them lose to the Falcons in '98 when Garrison Hearst's ankle broke in half in the first quarter, the Catch II when the Niners beat Green Bay on a TD pass with 6 seconds left down by four to Terrell Owens, TO's celebration in Cowboy stadium by Standing on the Star at midfield, the Niners come back from down 24 points and win against the Giants in 2002, and go 2-14 in 2004 only to pass on Aaron Rogers in favor of Alex Smith with the number 1 overall pick. I watched Alex Smith get benched and cast off 243 times before finally redeeming his career under Jim Harbaugh only to have it snatched away with the emergence of Colin Kaepernick. I watched good, bad ...
The San Francisco 49ers will attempt to trade quarterback Alex Smith this offseason, according to league sources, and some believe they will be able to do it because there is not a great supply of available quarterbacks and there is a demand for Smith. Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner worked well with Smith in San Francisco when he was the team's offensive coordinator in 2006 and Chiefs coach Andy Reid has expressed interest in Smith in the past, making Cleveland and Kansas City two possible destinations. There's one other factor to consider in the 49ers' preference to trade Smith. If San Francisco deals him instead of cutting him it would save the $1 million or $2 million roster bonus it would have to pay if he is released. Smith, the 2005 No. 1 overall draft pick, lost his starting job to Colin Kaepernick while sitting out with a concussion but has been professional at every turn and has continued to mentor his replacement. In fact, Coach Jim Harbaugh has indicated that Smith spends more time th ...
It's Super Bowl Sunday...Baltimore versus San Francisco...Will Ray Lewis go out on top with a ring? Can the Ravens stop Colin Kaepernick and that read-option offense? Will Beyonce's halftime performance get more buzz than the game? What's the over-under on how many times the cameras will show John and Jim Harbaugh and the entire Harbaugh clan? How many wings will you consume today?
Im picking my 49ers to win the Super Bowl, but i wouldn't be surprised if Ravens win. 49ers winning the Super Bowl would be great for Jim Harbaugh, his decision to switch QBs mid-way of the season, and great for 2nd year QB Colin Kaepernick who just got his first time being a starting QB this season. Ravens winning would be great for John Harbaugh, Ed Reed winning his first ring, and Ray Lewis retiring from the Game on top winning his 2nd and final ring. Whoever wins just wins. I would be happy either way and i love both teams. No predictions for me this game ima just enjoy it.
How good my 49ers are: - When scoring 20-plus points, Jim Harbaugh's San Francisco 49ers are 22-0-1 in their last 23 games. Including playoff games, the 49ers have only lost one game in the Harbaugh era when scoring 20 or more points - Michael Vick has had three rushes of 50-plus yards in his 10-year NFL career. Colin Kaepernick has three rushes of 50 or more yards since Week 13 - Colin Kaepernick had the NFL's best rating on passing attempts of 21-plus yards through the air (minimum of 10 attempts). He was the only player with at least 10 attempts to complete more than 50 percent of his passes that far downfield. Alex Smith had the NFL's next best completion percentage on throws of 21-plus yards (47.1 percent). - Defense has allowed opposing offenses to score only 14.3 ppg in the playoffs. Offense is perfect in the redzone.. in the playoffs.
As we all know, Jim Harbaugh took a huge risk in his decision to start Colin Kaepernick over Alex Smith mid way through the regular season. Most of us criticized him for making such a contoversial call, including myself. Personally, I ate my words and now call him a genius for doing so! If you were the Head Coach of your team and decided to stir the pot with a switch up, what would it be? Im a Falcons fan and I would start Jacquizz Rodgers over Michael Turner. I love Tha Burner BUT, Quizz would take his spot as the Falcons starting RB. -DANNI-ATL
I completely hate both Super Bowl teams. Can there be no winner? I like Ray Rice and Tori Smith, but hate Joe Flacco! I like Frank Gore and Colin Kaepernick but hate Jim Harbaugh and Randy Moss! Who do I riot for?!?!?? Post what team and your reason below to help me choose!

On the heels of a report that Alex Smith won't be back with the 49ers next season, Coach Jim Harbaugh acknowledged that Colin Kaepernick's backup deserves to be a starter in the NFL.

Here's a look at this weekend's Super Bowl matchup by Vessel Writer Dylan Dwyer... For the first time in the history of the National Football League, brothers will be battling it in the Super Bowl. As if that isn’t strange enough, the matchup is between the coaches. Jim Harbaugh, who coaches a powerful San Francisco 49ers team, lines up across the field from his older brother John Harbaugh and the Baltimore Ravens. Both coaches made some pretty bold moves midway through the season, but none bolder than Jim Harbaugh giving the starting quarterback role to Colin Kaepernick when Alex Smith was injured. Many reporters and analysts had plenty to say about this choice, but it has proved to be a genius decision as Kaepernick and the ‘niners are 11-2 with the youngster under center. As far as bold choices go for older brother John, he decided to let go of his offensive coordinator, Cam Cameron, and promote Jim Caldwell in his place on December 10th, with the most important games of the season ahead. Thi ...
If Alex Smith feels any bitterness over losing his position as the 49ers’ starting quarterback to Colin Kaepernick, he’s not showing it. In fact, 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh said today that Smith is the person who has done more than anyone to prepare Kaepernick to play, and that Smith still continues t...
New post: Jim Harbaugh: Alex Smith coaches Colin Kaepernick more than I do
I'm torn by the fact that 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh says Alex Smith now coaches Colin Kaepernick more than he does.Part of me sez what a great teammate, putting the team first despite him losing his job thru no fault of his own. Another side sez he should be more of a *** if he wants to make it in this league. The N F.L. stands for Nice guys Finish Last.
Jim Harbaugh: Alex Smith big help to Colin Kaepernick -
I dislike Jim Harbaugh and Colin Kaepernick, but I also dislike the Ravens. Maybe Alex Smith will start and Jim Harbaugh won't show up?
VIDEO: 49ers head Coach Jim Harbaugh dreams he runs like Colin Kaepernick
New Orleans -- There's no question that Andrew Luck became perhaps the most valued quarterback prospect of his generation with a great deal hard work and talent, but playing for Jim Harbaugh at Stanford added a lot to the picture. … Continue reading →
Alex Smith had every reason to be miffed after being demoted in favor of Colin Kaepernick earlier in the season, but San Francisco 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh says Smith has 'really helped coach Colin.'
Super Bowl bets have now been placed on the San Francisco 49ers; can't help but love Colin Kaepernick and it doesn't hurt that Coach Jim Harbaugh was a former ex-Bears quarterback. Also the coach before him was linebacker, Mike Singletary ( The Great "Sumari") IT's Going Down On Sunday! Go 49ERS!
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has a huge test ahead of him, but Jim Harbaugh and his staff should trust him to perform.
Colin Kaepernick is a force to be reckoned with. Can the Ravens do it one more time? Would be quite a story. I guess we underestimated Mr. Jim Harbaugh and what he and his team could accomplish!! Being a Bears quarterback will have that effect on your rep!
I just realized.. remember that one time I said Jim Harbaugh would be crazy if he kept Colin Kaepernick starting through the playoffs? Oops.

Jim Harbaugh: 'Extremely talented' Colin Kaepernick more than 'a read-option QB' -
Since my Cardinals did not make it to the big dance this year (Larry Fitz and team i still believe in you) who should I root for this Sunday? The 49er's Jim Harbaugh for his brave move to make Colin Kaepernick the team's starting QB or the Ravens so that the retiring Ray Lewis can leave with a ring?
Okay, well I was way off on my Superbowl predictions, but I really like this mach up between the two brothers. I've kinda joined the Ravens/Ray Lewis bandwagon because I like that team way better than the 49s. However, I believe the 49s are going to win because their team is a tad bit better and their QB is preforming great. I also hate Jim Harbaugh for what he did to Alex Smith and how he acted to Jim Schwartz (Lions Coach) two years ago. But the Only way I see the Ravens winning is if Joe Flacco has an excelling game and if the defense contains Colin Kaepernick. All I know though is that it's going to be a great game.
Did you know that the coach of the Baltimore Ravens has the same parents as the coach of the San Francisco 49ers? Yes, Super Bowl XLVII will feature Harbaugh v. Harbaugh, and the lives of brothers John and Jim -- and their brilliant and bold coaching decisions -- will be talked about at length before the big game. Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis, meanwhile, will be center stage. He always is. For those who would like to look beyond the broad headlines, I present nine under-the-radar Super Bowl storylines as we get set for New Orleans. 1) THE KICKERS In the biggest game of the season, you have a rookie kicker versus a total adventure. Get your popcorn ready. For all of the legit hype and excitement surrounding Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco and Niners quarterback Colin Kaepernick, chances are good that this even matchup will come down to a kick. In which case the Niners have a problem. David Akers can't kick. After he clanked a 38-yard attempt in Atlanta during the NFC Championship Game, Jim Harbaugh made a fac ...
The "Playbook" guys discuss Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis' legacy and explain how he will try and contain San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick.
Never disliked Colin Kaepernick until he does something stupid like trademark the action of kissing your bicep as "Kaepernicking" He's not the first person to do that, and it makes him look like an *** too. More reason to root for the Ravens I guess
Do you think the Ravens can stop Colin Kaepernick?
I know it's all about who the Coach Jim Harbaugh decides who is the best fit Man behind the center can get our 49ers to the Superbowl and that is CK7 that he believed from day 1.No wonder he traded up some picks to get him,bcz he knows excatly what he wants, like the trade with Jerry Rice,Back in 1985 when the Niners after winning the SB in 1984,Bill Walsh decided to trade up some picks to get to so he can get his Man,named Jerry Rice and the rest was history. So i see what is happening with Coach Jim Harbaugh trading some picks to get his Man and that was Colin Kaepernick,so in less than two weeks we all see the second making Genius Coach in 49er History in Jim Harbaugh,The second coming of Bill Walsh.
If the 49ers beat the Ravens in Super Bowl 47, fans in Baltimore have another reason to hate the team that left in the middle of the night nearly 29 years ago. QB Colin Kaepernick plays for the 49ers in part because Colts QB Andrew Luck recommended Kaepernick to his former coach at Stanford, Jim Harbaugh!
wow! Was I surprised last night. I thought the 49ers were in trouble when they were down 17-0. They fought back brilliantly and pulled this one off. They shut down Atlanta completely in the 2nd half. Hats off to Jim Harbaugh. Can this guy coach or what? Colin Kaepernick played superbly. Was impressed with SF's D in the second half. Wasn't a fan of the play calling of Matt Ryan in that last drive. That 4th and 4 throw was atrocious. They did have a great season. They won a playoff game, so that monkey is off their backs, but they came up a little short. I hope Tony Gonzalez doesn't retire. He looks like he has some gas left in his tank, but if he does he will retire as probably the best Tight End in NFL history. Some will argue that but thats my opinion. In the AFC Title Game, I was a little stunned. I thought New England was on a mission. I thought this was their year. Things looked good in the 1st half but I don't know what the *** happened in the second half. Baltimore played great. The Pats came up e . ...
Three of the better gutsy coaching decisions this NFL season: Pete Carroll going with rookie QB Russell Wilson after the Seahawks signed Matt Flynn as a free agent. Jim Harbaugh staying with Colin Kaepernick at QB after Alex Smith was healthy again to start. The Baltimore Ravens firing their offensive coordinator and installing Jim Caldwell into the position, although the fired OC might not be too happy about it.
Jim Harbaugh benched Alex Smith for Colin Kaepernick and John Harbaugh fired Cam Cameron and went with Jim Caldwell. Both gambles led to SB.
Put this in the Short Story book called No Guts, No Glory! On the west coast Jim Harbaugh pulled a much criticized move to bench Alex Smith who had one of the highest QB ratings in football this year but a concussion midway through the year lead to unproven 2nd year QB Colin Kaepernick becoming started for the Niners for the rest of the season despite Smith regaining his health and being cleared to return. The result, the Niners to the Super Bowl. On the east coast, John Harbaugh, Jim's brother, decided to fire his offensive coordinator, Cam Cameron, after 12 games despite the Ravens being in first place, replacing him with former Colt Head Coach Jim Caldwell. The two gutsiest coaching moves this year, and you can make the argument that those moves are why the HarBowl will happen in New Orleans in two weeks.
Earlier in the year, I questioned the wisdom of keeping Colin Kaepernick as starter for San Francisco. I felt that it would eventually catch up with us and catch us out. I also felt terrible for Alex Smith, who had by no means played badly. I wish him the best in whatever he does next. I also now believe that Jim Harbaugh knew what he was doing in keeping Colin in at quarterback. I was wrong; even if fate is against us and our sixth Super Bowl, I believe that we have our future settled at the QB position. whilst I can't help but worry about a quarterback who will be playing in what, his 9th game as a starter, I also think he has the smarts to play a great game for us. If he does and we win, Harbaugh is clearly a genius, and really does do what is best for the team. Let's go and win it!
I picked the 49ers today. But I admit I was a doubter when Jim Harbaugh went with Colin Kaepernick over Alex Smith.
Congrats to the 49ers and their fans! Jim Harbaugh should let Alex Smith play the first half of the Super Bowl and then Colin Kaepernick the second half. I think it's only fair!
Jim Harbaugh rolled the dice with Colin Kaepernick and it looks like the young man has done what Alex Smith couldn't do.. San Francisco is going to the Superbowl and Jim Harbaugh has Papa Harbaugh smiling I'm sure we will see if Johnny boy can make it a Harbaugh Duel in the Bayou
Ok, so this means Jim Harbaugh made the right decision choosing Colin Kaepernick over Alex Smith.
Where are all of the folks that said that that Jim Harbaugh was making a big mistake by choosing Colin Kaepernick over Alex Smith?
Sports fans are indeed crazy. The 49ers are a fun team to watch, Colin Kaepernick is a great story and Jim Harbaugh is an amazing coach. The Patriots are the evil empire. Tom Brady is rich, an NFL QB, is a fashion model and bangs a Victoria's Secret model. Bill Belichick was caught cheating. I should be rooting for the 49ers but as a Steelers fan I really like being a fan of the only team with 6 Super Bowls so I'm rooting for the Patriots to win this game and the Super Bowl.
WEST COAST REPRESENT.The 49ers are heading to a Super Bowl for the sixth time in franchise history. They will seek their sixth Super Bowl title when they face the winner of the Baltimore-New Orleans game in New Orleans on Feb. 3. Second-year quarterback Colin Kaepernick will lead them there, further validating Coach Jim Harbaugh's decision to make Kaepernick the starter over Alex Smith.
What a move by Jim Harbaugh putting Colin Kaepernick over Alex Smith that's good coaching.Congrats NFC CHAMPIONS 49ers!!!
We laughed when Jim Harbaugh made the switch to Colin Kaepernick. But bro is making all the haters look pretty stupid now. Hey John C. Marcario.here we go!
NFL Conference Championship Picks: - New England Patriots over the Baltimore Ravens - San Francisco 49ers over the Atlanta Falcons After finishing 6-2 in predicitons in the first two rounds of the NFL Playoffs it is time for me to pick the toughest round of all, Conference Championship Sunday. Tom Brady is looking as great as ever and you have to think that even without Gronk it might just be time for Belichick and Brady to get their fourth rings fitted. Ray Lewis is playing in what could be his last game, and as a result it can be expected that the Ravens defense and team as a whole will give everything it has to send Big Ray back to the dance to compete for a title one last time. I think the Ravens will cover the 9.5 spread, but ultimately it will be the Pats prevailing in another awesome game. On the other side of the aisle, it is Jim Harbaugh's time. The 49ers are not to be messed with and Kyle Kaepernick's feet and arm strength have proven to be the difference in taking the Niners from a contender to ...
Jim Harbaugh's gamble to turn the keys to 49ers offense to Colin Kaepernick a real winner:
Why the SF49ers Love to Stretch... San Francisco's Players Believe Their Fixation With Stretching Has Given the Team an Edge By KEVIN CLARK Getty Images Colin Kaepernick and Alex Smith warm up. The San Francisco 49ers' two-year rise from the depths of mediocrity is widely attributed to ferocious defense and the dazzling running ability of quarterback Colin Kaepernick. But as the 49ers head to Atlanta favored to beat the Falcons this weekend and advance to their first Super Bowl in 18 years, here's another possibility: Maybe it's that they stretch a lot. That's not a proposition you'd want to state too loudly in the 49ers' locker room. The San Francisco stretching program is something team officials refuse to talk about, ostensibly for competitive reasons. But let's face it: The same 300-pound linemen who quickly brag about how much weight they can bench aren't likely to admit that they can do the splits. That's the province of cheerleaders, isn't it? Privately, 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh has made it clear t ...
Colin Kaepernick and Jim Harbaugh on the cover of Sports Illustrated- SI Jinx?
Yo... Okay, for the ppl who ask me how I feel about Alex Smith getting benched for Colin Kaepernick way back when Smith got a concussion. Look... I've been a Red n Gold fanatic since before I was born, stuck with them all those years we couldn't even get to .500... I remember throwing a shoe at my TV when we drafted Alex Smith back in 05'... When Jim Harbaugh came in as the 49ers Head Coach, he obtained Alex Smith along with the 49ers, he didn't pick him in free agency of draft him (Like he did Colin Kaepernick)... SO when he had the first chance to throw in HIS guy, he did, and Kaepernick has been lights out since... I've personally seen Kaepernick play a couple times when he played for UNR and would bring the Wolf Pack here to get beat by my UH Warriors :P... Dood is a cyborg ninja from another realm, real talk... So in short, Kaepernick is the blessing all of the REAL 49ers fans have been waiting for. Smith, you've been good, but come this offseason, we will ship you away, and you will be an afterthoug ...
The Falcons are free of worry, right? Not with Colin Kaepernick coming to town. And Tom Brady's Pats, always favorites at home, won't have it easy with the Ravens as Clark Judge breaks down championship Sunday.
One year ago, the nation hated the thought of a Niners-Pats Super Bowl matchup. This year, there is a 50.1% majority vote for that same match up. The difference: Colin Kaepernick. Proves Jim Harbaugh is a genius. Harbaugh-Bochy 2016.

The 49ers weren't running any of the READ-OPTION stuff with Alex Smith early in the year, although he is mobile enough to run it. It wasn't until after Jim Harbaugh saw what RGIII was doing that he decided to start running it, and Colin Kaepernick does it very well. Probably another reason for the quarterback switch. Normally you just don't pick rookies to take their teams to Super Bowls, but I don't see how Atlanta can stop the READ-OPTION and a team with that kind of defense. PREDICTION TIME: 49ers 27, Falcons 20.Ravens 30, Patriots 26
OK, please stop with the talk of calling Jim Harbaugh a "genius" for making Colin Kaepernick his starting QB. Strip all of the noise down, and at worst, he made a choice with a 50/50 chance of success. If making a correct call on a 50/50 proposition makes one a "genius" then who DOESN'T qualify for the Mensa Club? Not a knock on Kaepernick nor Harbaugh. Just tired of these types of media superlatives. Or maybe they are just really dumb and unsure of own chances of correctly guessing a 50/50 proposition. Now THAT would certainly make sense to me.
VIDEO: Colin Kaepernick, Patrick Willis & Jim Harbaugh react to the 45-31 win over the Packers.
Not to take anything away from Green Bay but WOW! Colin Kaepernick played darn near the best I've ever seen. 181 yards rushing for Kaepernick, an NFL single game QB rushing record. Only Randall Cunningham on Tecmo Bowl could beat that! Very impressed! Jim Harbaugh I guess you knew what you were doing by sitting Alex Smith.
Colin Kaepernick. Did anyone see this coming? Yes. Jim Harbaugh did, and that's why he made the tough decision about Alex Smith.
Until today, Michael Vick’s 119 rushing yards in the 2004 playoffs were the most any quarterback had ever had in a postseason game in NFL history. Today, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick obliterated that record. Midway through the third quarter, Kaepernick has 163 yards on 12 rushes against the Pa...
God believes in you even more than Jim Harbaugh believes in Colin Kaepernick.
Rookie QBs have won Superb bowls in the past, but Jim Harbaugh got to be a genius to persist with Colin Kaepernick even after Alex Smith returned, probably coz his better association with college players. Colin is a brilliant athlete and this got to be up there as one of the best coaching decisions ever! John for coach of the year!
Colin Kaepernick was frankly impressive 4 the 49ers against the Packers. I did not think that he would outplay Aaron Rodgers. He proved me wrong and 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh really looks like a genius in going with Kaepernick over Alix Smith.
Wow, Colin Kaepernick out scored Aaron Rogers 52-24 (including the pick-6 he threw). Guess Jim Harbaugh made the right call on the QB choice today.
Think about how good Alex Smith had to be to keep Colin Kaepernick on the bench that long. Colin Kaepernick led the San Francisco 49ers to a 45-31 rout of the Green Bay Packers, and showed all his...
Colin Kaepernick, my new NFL hero. A new NFL record 181 yards rushing in a game for a quarterback. On top of 263 yards passing. 2 passing touchtowns, 2 rushing touchdowns to stomp the Greenbay Packers 45 to 31. If the Bears can't do it at least an old Bears quaterback Jim Harbaugh as Head Coach of the San Francisco 49ers can. GO NINERS !!!
This game is over with another SF TD. It's been a fun year, but injuries and a few really dumb players on defense wrecked the season. If I see Eric Walden out there again next year, I'm going to puke. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm going to root for Seattle to win the NFC. I really don't like Jim Harbaugh, Colin Kaepernick, or the city of San Francisco for that matter.
Man with most pressure on him today in NFL. Jim Harbaugh. A loss, and all talk would be about him replacing Alex Smith w/ Colin Kaepernick.
Here is a summary for the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers game this Saturday. The Pack is back on Saturday night but this time they won’t is 3-0 SU and ATS in the postseason versus .700 or greater foes and have the luxury of Lambeau Field, or Joe Webb for that matter. That’s not to say that they can’t walk out of Candlestick Park with a win – even though they fall into that same ugly 3-28 SU angle that may ground the Ravens. Sure, the Niners fit the same bill that benefited Green Bay last week, namely home teams in their opening playoff game after being bounced as a favorite the previous season (these teams are now 34-19 ATS). And, yes, Jim Harbaugh is 10-1 SU and 9-2 ATS in his NFL coaching career versus .667 or greater opposition, including 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS this season. However, do you really expect Colin Kaepernick to be able to go toe-to-toe in a quarterback battle with Aaron Rodgers? We don’t, not when Rodgers 11-5 ATS in his career as a dog, including 7-1 ATS when taking 2.5 or ...

Niners' Coach Jim Harbaugh dumped steady but unspectacular starting QB Alex Smith for the dynamic Colin Kaepernick in late November.
Ready for the upset of the year? The San Francisco 49ers got a dose of reality against the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field on Sunday and will look to get back on track this week against divisional rival Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals will be playing out the finale of an extremely disappointing 2012 season that ends as it began: with a cloud surrounding the quarterback position. Head Coach Ken Wisenhunt spent all year trying to find a viable signal-caller and failed at every turn, and it could very well end up costing him his job. For the 49ers, Colin Kaepernick and the offense need to get back to basics, namely handing the ball off to Frank Gore. San Francisco got far too cute early against the Seahawks, and it cost the team. Head Coach and play-caller Jim Harbaugh needs to get back to what made this team so successful in 2011 and earlier this year by feeding the running game, especially Frank Gore.
Merry Christmas to Jim Harbaugh, Justin Smith, Frank Gore, and Colin Kaepernick's parents. Ya did good.
I love the Seahawks. Russell Wilson is my Rookie of the Year. But to pick against Jim Harbaugh and the hot-handed Colin Kaepernick is hard.
Jets' quarterback options for next year (NFL and college) When the Jets go shopping for a quarterback in the offseason, to either unseat or replace Mark Sanchez, they will find the grocery shelves hardly stocked with names that will excite the fan base. But then again, who ever thought Russell Wilson or Colin Kaepernick were going to turn out to be stars. NFL OPTIONS Alex Smith, 49ers He would be the first choice. And with Kaepernick now the No. 1 in SF, Smith will want out. He has emerged as more than a game manager, and he is efficient, which makes him the ideal Rex Ryan quarterback. He signed a three-year, $24 million deal shortly after Jim Harbaugh kicked the tires on Peyton Manning, but Smith is not guaranteed his $7.5 million salary in 2013 if he is not a 49er after April 1. Carson Palmer, Raiders His 2013 salary cap number is $15.335 million. Gulp. Can still play (22 TDs, 14 INTs, 60.8 completion percentage). Don’t hold your breath. Matt Flynn, Seahawks Hardly a sure thing, but he was schooled un ...
And now back to our regularly scheduled programming ... Bill Belichick on Jim Harbaugh's decision to start Kaep, "Certainly has the experience, the track record, to go with it. He played the position. He knows as much about that position as anybody. I'm sure he's doing what's best for his team. That's what any coach would do -- do what's best for the team." -- GG
I keep reading from scribes and bloggers all over the country that, despite Colin Kaepernick’s arm strength, he is not getting the ball down the field. This is meant as a criticism of Kaepernick and it usually accompanies the question: Why did Jim Harbaugh choose Kaepernick over Smith because Smith ...
On his concerned over injury risk to Colin Kaepernick running as much as he does, Jim Harbaugh likened him to a callous on a big toe
If u were Jim Harbaugh, who do u want starting as QB: Alex Smith or Colin Kaepernick
Jim Harbaugh's work with the 49ers has made him the hottest property in the game — yes, RG3, even hotter than you.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Jim Harbaugh watched how Colin Kaepernick handled himself when things didn't go right for the San Francisco 49ers, and that told the coach plenty more about his second-year quarterback with all of three NFL starts to his name.
49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh plans to stay with Colin Kaepernick and David Akers.
San Francisco 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh was discouraged by Sunday's loss but encouraged by the play of QB Colin Kaepernick, who earned another start against the Miami Dolphins in Week 14.
Adam Schefter While Rex Ryan offered a no decision on his starting QB, Jim Harbaugh said he's sticking with Colin Kaepernick. -Brandon
Not every team in the league is having a hard time deciding who will start for them in Week 14. 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed Monday that there is no change at quarterback coming in the wake of San Francisco’s 16-13 overtime loss to the Rams. Colin Kaepernick will get the start for the 49ers…

Following Sunday's overtime loss to the Rams, Coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed he plans on sticking with Colin Kaepernick for Week 14.
Even though SF lost to STL today, Coach Jim Harbaugh was happy with Colin Kaepernick's performance. No QB change:
Looking forward to Jim Harbaugh saying Colin Kaepernick is still the starter in the same press conference he names Alex Smith the starter.
Jim Harbaugh sticks with Colin Kaepernick despite loss -
There is no rule, written or unwritten, that says a player can't lose his starting job in the NFL because of injury. It is a nice concept -- fair and honorable and just, given the demands of the job and the inherent risk of injury -- but it simply isn't true, no matter what any coach claims. Starting jobs are won and lost every week because this is a results-oriented business. Coaches don't typically keep their jobs for long. They must win now. So they always go with the players they think give them the best opportunity to win that week. They aren't in this for charity. San Francisco Coach Jim Harbaugh made his choice. It was tough and complex and, to some, unfair. Alex Smith had been performing at a high level. Colin Kaepernick simply played better. For the third straight game and the second straight since Smith was medically cleared to play after suffering a concussion, Kaepernick will be the 49ers' starting quarterback against St. Louis. Smith will be the backup. Harbaugh's decision was based on merit ...
ESPN Video: Ron Jaworski talks about why he agrees with Jim Harbaugh's decision to start Colin Kaepernick
nine players who can be trusted 2) NaVorro Bowman He's the straw that stirs the drink for the San Francisco 49ers on defense. Fellow linebacker Ahmad Brooks made a fascinating point to me on the SiriusXM Blitz this week, comparing the Niners defenders to pitchers in a successful starting rotation. Brooks said, "I see NaVorro making plays, Pat (Patrick Willis) doing his thing, Aldon (Smith) sacking the quarterback, our defensive backs, everyone wants to stay in line and be the next one to make a play and change the game." Bowman is a star. Jim Harbaugh can afford to play musical chairs with his quarterback and look for more explosiveness and upside with Colin Kaepernick. He knows he has the best defense in the NFL, anchored by Bowman, to make his team a force.
At a press conference today, Coach Jim Harbaugh expected to answer the question- Alex Smith or Colin Kaepernick?
Jim Harbaugh named Colin Kaepernick his QB. He doesn't want Alex Smith to be considered a backup though, just a starter who's not starting.
would you start Alex Smith or Colin Kaepernick this following game if you were Jim Harbaugh?
BREAKING: Jim Harbaugh announces Colin Kaepernick is the starting starting Qb & Alex Smith is the non-starting starting Qb this Week.
A day after Colin Kaepernick sparked a 31-21 victory in New Orleans, Coach Jim Harbaugh said no determination has been made about the 49ers starting quarterback for next week
San Francisco 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh has a knack for getting the most out of his quarterbacks, Albert Breer writes, which should mean big things for young upstart Colin Kaepernick.
Should San Francisco 49ers head Coach Jim Harbaugh stick with QB Colin Kaepernick next week or should he go back to Alex Smith? Our analysts explain why Harbaugh has a tough decision to make.
The juiciest-ever NFL quarterback controversy just got juicier. On Sunday in this wild saloon town, Colin Kaepernick kicked open the swinging doors, leading the 49ers to a 31-21 win over the red-hot Saints, proving that he's no one-shot wonder. After the game, Jim Harbaugh declined the opportunity...
Colin Kaepernick played well enough to extend Jim Harbaugh's quarterback quandary for at least another week. With the 49ers' defense making plays of its own, it might not have mattered who was under center.
Alex Smith - takes you to NFC Championship Game in 2011. Alex Smith - makes you 6-2 in 2012 Alex Smith - gets hurt while risking his body for a first down. *** Jim Harbaugh - Colin Kaepernick is our guy.
At this point, the most vexing question about the 49ers isn’t which quarterback they’re playing this week, it’s who exactly do they think they’re kidding? Even after incumbent starter Alex Smith was cleared after a concussion, the 49ers started Colin Kaepernick in yesterday’s win at New Orleans. And...
If you were 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh who would you go with? Alex Smith or Colin Kaepernick?
And another rant I'd like to go on before the hype continues about Colin Kaepernick. I like Jim Harbaugh but Alex Smith is still his quarterback. Who cares if they've won both games with Kaepernick as the starter. For example, today's game. The better quarterback lost that game. Drew Brees threw 5 touchdowns today. 2 of them went to the 49ers. The 49ers won the game by 10 points. That was the BIG difference in the 49ers winning that game. So take that media as you continue to brag up Colin Kaepernick like you did Tim Tebow last year. That's all I've gotta say on that. There! I promise I'm all done with my rants now.
Jim Harbaugh a genius? Don't know about that, but starting Colin Kaepernick at NO might pay off w/another SF win.
Now u guys see why Jim Harbaugh and I got together and decided to go with Colin Kaepernick as QB for our teams this week.
I have been saying it for 2 years Niners will not win a Championship with Alex Smith as QB! He doesn't have the confidence, arm strength, or little intangibles needed. Our Defense, Special Teams, and running game our all top notch and Championship level, but in the NFL that could change on a dime- that's why Jim Harbaugh decision to have Colin Kaepernick start is not surprising. On draft day, Harbaugh asked Niners mgmt. to trade up and get Colin, and he has been grooming him since to be the starter. It was a tough decision to bench your starter after going 13-3 last year, but I think it a gamble worth taking.
Joe Montana won 4 Super Bowls with Bill Walsh and the 49ers. Steve Young won his with George Seifert. Yep, again with the 9ers. How many will Colin Kaepernick win with Coach Jim Harbaugh???
While I think Colin Kaepernick is going to be a really good QB in the NFL, and Jim Harbaugh is one of the better coaches in the NFL, I don't agree with the benching of Alex Smith. I think this QB controversy is an unnecessary distraction for a team that has a legitimate chance to be holding the Lombardi Trophy come season end. How do others feel about this?

Will it be Colin Kaepernick or Alex Smith? San Francisco 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh says he has his reasons for not divulging who will start at QB on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.
Colin Kaepernick will start at quarterback Sunday for the San Francisco 49ers against the New Orleans Saints, which I see a much better passer than Alex Smith.

“I’m thankful for Colin Kaepernick, finally gave me an excuse to dump Alex Smith’s *** Jim Harbaugh
Jim Harbaugh reportedly chose Colin Kaepernick as the San Francisco 49ers' starting quarterback -- and it's a tough but correct call. Harbaugh knows you must be bold to win in the NFL. is that good or bad for niners long term?

I'm thankful for Jim Harbaugh picking Colin Kaepernick to start against the Saints this Sunday! GO 49ERS!

Jim Harbaugh's first order of business after follow-up evaluation: Alex Smith or Colin Kaepernick? (poll)
Apparently, Jim Harbaugh has created a bit of a quarterback controversy in San Francisco. Actually, Colin Kaepernick kind of created it. Gotta stick with Alex Smith, but it's nice to see that when Alex is ineffective, the niners have a viable option at quarterback. This is the best niners team I've seen since Joe Montana and Bill Walsh.
I believe in Alex Smith. I'm excited about Colin Kaepernick. But bottom line is I trust in Jim Harbaugh either way.
If you were Jim Harbaugh would you keep Alex Smith as your starter or would you let Colin Kaepernick start?
49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh says he tends to go with the hot hand. Can there be a hotter hand than Colin Kaepernick after tonight?
Colin Kaepernick didn't create a quarterback controversy on Monday, but he sent his message to Jim Harbaugh.
The big "Monday Night Football" showcase next week could feature a quarterback matchup of journeyman Jason Campbell of the Bears vs. untested Colin Kaepernick of the 49ers. Not exactly the creme de la creme of the NFC. Why? Concussions, of course. Twenty-five percent of NFL games Sunday saw a starting QB leave with a concussion. Two were Chicago's Jay Cutler and San Francisco's Alex Smith, whose teams play each other next Monday. Both stayed in the games Sunday for several plays after what appeared to be head-rattling hits. Smith even threw a touchdown pass while playing with blurred vision before he departed, according to Coach Jim Harbaugh. The NFL looked into the Cutler and Smith cases — and Philadelphia's Michael Vick, the third quarterback who got a concussion this weekend — and came away satisfied that the proper protocol was followed. Another noteworthy player, Bills running back Fred Jackson, took a late hit to the head in a loss at the New England Patriots. He was examined Monday — a day af ...

Alex Smith or Colin Kaepernick? gives his take, plus some advice for Jim Harbaugh. WATCH:
Alex Smith's $7.5 base salary for 2013 becomes guaranteed if he's on the 49ers' roster by April 1. He's also due a $1 million roster bonus in March. Although Yahoo's Jason Cole predicts Colin Kaepernick's rocket arm and electric running ability will instigate a "serious quarterback controversy in San Francisco pretty soon," it's hard to envision the 49ers cutting ties with Smith as long as he directs the team to the playoffs. The salaries of the two QBs combined is far less than the total devoted to the position by most NFL teams. Smith's winning percentage (77) is behind only Aaron Rodgers and Matt Schaub since Jim Harbaugh took over as Head Coach.
Colin Kaepernick is competing with Josh Johnson and Scott Tolzien to be Alex Smith
theres a reason Jim Harbaugh went after Peyton Manning, there was a reason he drafted Colin Kaepernick
Eventually, Jim Harbaugh is going to use Josh Johnson and/or Colin Kaepernick that way, though not as often.
