NBA: A small market teams' success is solely hinged on drafting well. Since star players rarely, almost never use their free agency to go to smaller market teams, it makes the draft absolutely imperative. I think about my hometeam (Cleveland Cavaliers) and ponder the question "what if?". What if?...in 2011, after taking Kyrie Irving we would've taken Klay Thompson instead of Tristan Thompson. What if?...in 2012 we would've taken Andre Drummond at instead of Dion Waiters. What if?...in 2013 we would've taken Cody Zeller instead of Anthony Bennett. It is my hope, wish and prayer that we win the lottery again so we can draft Jabari Parker overall. But knowing them, they'll probably take a 6'-8" center from the Ukraine.
Brandon Jennings earned his ninth double-double this season, scoring 21 points and registering 13 assists, to help the Detroit Pistons crush the Cleveland Cavaliers, 115-92. The Pistons shot 46-96 (47.9%) from the field and dominated the offensive glass, pulling down 18 boards. Detroit (14-16) picked up the win after falling to the Houston Rockets on Saturday. Jennings went 6-11 from the field (2-5 on 3-pointers) and 7-8 from the free throw line, in a quality performance offensively. Other top performers for Detroit were Josh Smith with 25 points and 8 rebounds, Rodney Stuckey with 14 points and 5 steals, and Andre Drummond with 14 points and 11 rebounds. On 7-14 shooting, including 3-6 from behind the arc, Kyrie Irving scored 21 points for Cleveland in the loss. He also added 7 assists. Tristan Thompson contributed 17 points and 6 rebounds and Matthew Dellavedova finished with 10 points and 6 assists.
Cleveland Cavaliers @ New Orleans Pelicans . . . . . . The hosts take the ascendency in the final term to post the 104-100 win over the Cavs. Jrue Holiday had 15 points, 11 assists and three steals, Anthony Davis did his DPOY chances no harm with 17 points, 13 boards (9 offensive), three blocks and two steals and Tyreke Evans added 19 points and 10 boards off the bench. Eric Gordon also had 19 and Ryan Anderson 13. Kyrie Irving led the visitors with 22 points, five boards, three steals and two assists, Jarrett Jack had 19, Dion Waiters 14 and Tristan Thompson had 12 points and eight rebounds. Matthew Dellavedova started and had two boards, an assist and a +8 in his 12 minutes on the court - one of only four Cavs in the + and second highest behind Andrew Bynum.
Good morning everyone. I said something about this last night and now Yahoo sports has made a article about it Anthony Bennett, the No. 1 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, hasn't made a shot through four games with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He's 0-for-15 and has two total points (both on free throws) while playing a relatively low 12.4 minutes per game as a back-up to Anderson Varejao and Tristan Thompson. He told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that it feels like the basket has a lid on it. Bennett's selection at No. 1 overall was a relative surprise. Nerlens Noel and Victor Oladipo were hot prospects before the draft, but Cleveland opted for Bennett — who was believed to be one of the more NBA-ready players in the class. His start has been far from ideal, though. It started in the preseason, when coach Mike Brown revealed that Bennett was suffering from both asthma and sleep apnea. Now he's struggling for playing time, and literally not making anything. His shot chart through four games:
I've been busy lately so here's all the notable recent news: -Suns' Markieff Morris has been suspended one game without pay for elbowing the Oklahoma City Thunder's Serge Ibaka in the face -Raptors exercised third-year team options Thursday on the entry-level contracts of center Jonas Valanciunas and guard Terrence Ross, extending them through the 2014-15 season -Charlotte forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist left the Bobcats' game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night with a strained right hamstring (severity is unclear) -Warriors have waived guard Seth Curry, center Dewayne Dedmon and forward Joe Alexander -Kings assistant coach Brendan Malone has resigned -Cavaliers picked up the fourth-year contract options on All-Star guard Kyrie Irving and forward Tristan Thompson, they also exercised the third-year options on guard Dion Waiters and forward Tyler Zeller on Wednesday. The options on Irving and Thompson are for the 2014-15 season. The Cavs can offer both players contract extensions starting next ...
Sources say that the Cleveland Cavaliers are pursuing all-star center Andrew Bynum. Although Bynum didn't play a second last year due to a knee injury, I like his shots and want him to join the Cavs. They are only going to be able to offer a 1 yr $13-15 million dollar contract if they want to pursue LeBron in 2014 like they have planned. Potential starting 5 for 2013-14 Cavs: PG-Kyrie Irving SG-Jarret Jack or Dion Waiters (Still being discussed) SF-Anthony Bennett PF-Anderson Verajao C-Andrew Bynum That's a solid playoff team. If they get Bynum they should also have on eof the better benches in the NBA. They could have Tristan Thompson, Waiters or Jack, Zeller, CJ Miles, Earl Clark. A few more but you get the idea. Oh if you didn't know that Mike Brown (the Cavs new head coach) was the Lakers coach two years ago when Bynum played for them, then that's something that you should look into. Message me any questions you have about the Cavs 2013-14 opening roster outlook.
FIRST ROUND = 1. Cleveland Cavaliers: PF Anthony Bennett, UNLV The draft's first stunner came ... on the draft's first pick. No one expected Bennett to go first. But he's a great fit for the Cavaliers, if he can get his weight down. Though Bennett is a power forward, he should fit well next to Tristan Thompson because they're both athletic and slightly undersized. Together they will rebound well. Bennett has as much upside as anyone in this class, though his weight and defense are concerns. Still, if he was going to be the target, the Cavaliers might have tried to trade down. Grade: B- 2. Orlando Magic: SG Victor Oladipo, Indiana The Magic reportedly were targeting a shooting guard for most of the draft process. Oladipo isn't as skilled as Ben McLemore, but he has unending energy and plays tough defense. He's the kind of player who could be an asset for a rebuilding team, as long as he's not expected to be its best player on offense. This pick echoes last year's No. 2, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. With Nerlens ...
My predictions about each of the lottery picks. Cleveland Cavaliers - Anthony Bennet. Many people are questioning if this was the right choice for Cleveland to make, due to there being a no clear Number 1 overall pick I think anyone in the top 7 could've gone Number 1, so it was not a bad pick by ny means. Bennet is a power forward, being 6'9 he is very undersized, and also the fact that Cleveland have Tristan Thompson will mean that he will most likely be playing Small Forward. The reason why Bennet went Number 1 was because of the fact he could fill the position that the Cavs needed desperately, he can shoot the mid range and 3 Point ball very effectively and he is extremely athletic. Stats, PPG - 16.4 RPG - 7.5 APG - 2.3 SPG - 1.1 BPG - 1.9 Orlando Magic - Victor Oladipo Victor Oladipo is my eraly pick for rookie of the year, why? its simple he does evrything you could ask for from 1 guy on a basketball court, he playts terrific defense, he is extrememlyy quick, very athletic, he can score in a variaty ...
NBA Draft Day Blind Analysis 2013 1. Cleveland Cavaliers - Anthony Bennett, 6'8" 240lbs UNLV Best Case Scenario: Charlotte Hornets era Larry Johnson Worst Case Scenario: New York Knicks era Larry Johnson The GOOD: This is a surprising pick to say the least. Bennett is a tweener (too small to play the 4, not enough ball handling skills to play the 3). He's got an excellent wingspan, an excellent motor (decision making, quick reflexes and responses, instinctive) and has good form and range on his jump shot. He's got a knack for scoring. The BAD: He's too small and too slow for the position. He'll be matched up against some of the taller 4's (Nowitzki [Mavericks], Garnett [Nets], Gasol [Lakers]), quick and athletic 4's (Josh Smith [Hawks], Thaddeus Young [Sixers], Blake Griffin [Clippers]) and physically imposing 4's (Boozer [Bulls], Randolph [Grizzlies] West [Pacers]). He also needs to work on his post play. Team Factor: This is an interesting pick because the Cavaliers still have Tristan Thompson (a fellow ...
First Canadian top pick goes to Cleveland Cavaliers, joining Brampton's Tristan Thompson.
Anthony Bennett first overall pick to Cleveland Cavaliers! Proud that a Canadian went first and with Andrew Wiggins probably going first next year it's a great time for Canadian basketball. Also with Tristan Thompson already there, it seems that the Cavs have a thing for Canadians.
NBA: Evan Smith's Mock Draft: 1. Cleveland Cavaliers: Ben McLemore. McLemore was a freshman in college last year and really exploded onto the scene for the Kansas Jayhawks. He averaged 15.9 points last year, along with 5.2 rebounds, and 2 assists. The reason why he would be an optimal choice for first overall would be that the Cavs are not necessarily guard-heavy. They have a lot of solid big men, with a lot of potential like Cody Zeller, Anderson Varejao, Tristan Thompson and guys like that. I think McLemore would be a nice compliment for Dion Waiters and Kyrie Irving. Choosing Alex Len [the projected 1st overall choice] would be another big man with potential tossed onto the roster that isn't really needed for the Cavs.
1.) Cleveland Cavaliers- Nerlens Noel, PF, Kentucky (6'11", 215) Unlike the 2011 draft where Kyrie Irving was the clear cut the Cavs have their work cut out for them here. While this draft is unfortunately devoid of any franchise altering talents, Cleveland can still add a very nice piece to their rebuild in this spot. Having taken Dion Waiters with their first selection last year, it would seem to rule out Ben McLemore and Victor Oladipo from consideration, leaving Cleveland to select between Noel and Otto Porter. Porter might seem to be a better fit systematically, but Noel has a better shot at being a truly special player, which could tip the scales in his favor. While his offensive game is still very much a work in progress, he’s a game changing defensive presence that won’t have to step in right away because of the presence of Anderson Varejao, Tristan Thompson, and last year’s 1st rounder Tyler Zeller. That’s a good thing, too, because Noel is likely to miss most of the first half of the se ...
Tristan Thompson said in an interview that the Cleveland Cavaliers players like to sing One Direction.
Rockstarpoetry (Official) NBA Recap: Cleveland Cavaliers 101 (19-38, 9-22 away) - Chicago Bulls 98 (32-25, 15-14 home) CHICAGO -- Dion Waiters scored 25 points to help make up for the absence of Kyrie Irving, and the Cleveland Cavaliers snapped an 11-game losing streak against the Chicago Bulls with a 101-98 victory on Tuesday night. While Irving rested a sore right knee in street clothes on the sideline, Waiters converted a fadeaway jumper and a layup before Tyler Zeller drove along the baseline for a layup that helped Cleveland open an 87-78 lead with 7:33 left in the game. The Bulls were down two when they got the ball back with 37.8 seconds left, but Luol Deng missed a long jumper and Shaun Livingston hit two free throws for Cleveland to make it 100-96. Luke Walton then forced a turnover to get the ball back for the Cavs. Livingston, starting in place of Irving, finished with 15 points as improving Cleveland held on for its third win in the last four games, bouncing back from a difficult 109-105 loss ...

Lebron James Rumor: Could James Return to Cavaliers? Lebron James is expected to opt out of his contract with the Miami Heat following next season in hopes of signing another max deal, and while the chances aren’t great, he will give his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, a close look, according to Jason Lloyd of the Beacon Journal. And yes, believe it or not, he will give Cleveland a close look. He has a relationship with Irving and Thompson. His new agent, Rich Paul, is a local guy who has long been a close friend. Paul also represents Thompson. A number of pieces are aligning, but the biggest draw is missing. Lloyd attributes the birthplace of James’ agent and the fact that the star has relationships with two of the team’s young, up-and-comers, Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson, as reasons why he would consider returning to Cleveland. However, Lloyd also says that the Cavaliers “realistically must be a playoff team for James to consider them” after next season. This could prove the challen ...
Tristan Thompson's three-point play with 24.4 seconds remaining gave the Cleveland Cavaliers their first two-game winning streak of the season as the Cavaliers beat the Washington Wizards 87-84 on Wednesday night. Kyrie Irving, who had 26 points to lead Cleveland, made one of two free throws with 9.5 seconds left after Jordan Crawford and Garrett Temple missed jumpers for the Wizards. Crawford made two free throws with 8.5 seconds left to cut the lead to 86-84. Irving hit one of two, and Crawford missed a 3-pointer as time ran out. Irving had 20 of his 26 points in the first half for the Cavaliers, who improved to 7-23. Two of their wins are against Washington, losers of eight straight. Thompson had a season-high 15 points and 12 rebounds. Crawford and Emeka Okafor led the Wizards with 17 points and Nene had 16. - Dan

LAST NIGHT'S NBA GAME UPDATE: The Dallas Mavericks have been struggled lately on the road, a 4-game road losing streak, and were looking to bounce back against the Cleveland Cavaliers, a team that is struggling itself. Despite turning the ball over 22 times, the Mavericks began to use there own ball movement in a tied game with about 5:08 to go in the game. 3 of the last 4 Maverick baskets came from assists that led them to a 9-0 run which ultimately seal the win for them. Dallas's ball movement led to 26 assists to Cleveland's 21 and the Mavs had enough chemistry to score the final buckets. What they lacked in turnovers, made them better defensively in blocks Dallas finished with a total of 14 blocks compare to the Cavs 4. Those blocks definitely made a huge difference whether or not they would win the game against Cleveland. Dallas's defense allow PG Kyrie Irving to score 34 points, but they didn't allow him to have 1 assist. The Mavericks made sure if they would be beat it be from Kyrie Irving, not his ...

Cleveland Cavaliers have exercised the third-year contract options on guard Kyrie Irving and forward/center Tristan Thompson.
It seems that the Cavaliers will be another team that is using the Thunder's build through the draft technique to get back to being one of the dominate teams in the east. The future is certainly bright for the Cavs especially if Tristan Thompson, Kyrie Irving, and Dion Waiters live up to there alll ...
