The Memphis Grizzlies dropped to 21-6 on the season after coming up short on Sunday evening to the Cleveland Cavaliers by a score of 91-105. Coming into this game, the new-look Cleveland Cavaliers had won their last game (versus Brooklyn) and 15 of 25 overall. Since these two teams’ last regular s…

Who are the best teams in the NBA through a month? We did it, everyone. We’re officially one month into the 2014-15 NBA season. The post season is still achievable for the Cavaliers despite winning only 2 of their last 7 ball games. The NBA playoff standings for 2014 are not set in stone yet as some teams are closing in on the bottom spots. The Atlanta Hawks have gone on a dismal 1-9 run in the last 10 games, allowing the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons to close in on the 8th spot. The Charlotte Bobcats and Brooklyn Nets are not that far ahead either. So the Eastern Conference playoff positionings could easily change in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, in the Western Conference, an 2-8 showing in the last 10 games for the Denver Nuggets has likely knocked them out of playoff contention. The Minnesota Timberwolves and Memphis Grizzlies are eying the bottom slots, while the Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, and Golden State Warriors are looking to hold on.
New Proposed Trade: - Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum to Memphis Grizzlies - Zack Randolph to New York Knicks - Tayshawn Prince and Chris Kaman to Cleveland Cavaliers - Carmelo Anthony to the Los Angeles Lakers
(SportsNetwork.com) - The surging San Antonio Spurs are back in the Alamo City and will put their nine-game winning streak on the line Saturday versus the Cleveland Cavaliers at the AT&T Center. The Spurs made it nine straight wins with Friday's 102-86 drubbing of the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum. Tony Parker scored 20 points, Tiago Splitter added 17 and Manu Ginobili netted 15 points for San Antonio, which shot 53.2 percent. Parker scored 11 points in the fourth quarter. San Antonio survived a furious rally by the Grizzlies for its fifth straight win on the road. "They made a run like we expected them to. This is the NBA. That's how it works," said Spurs power forward Tim Duncan. "We kept our composure and made some plays at the right time." Duncan ended with eight points and six assists, while Kawhi Leonard had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Spurs. The Spurs are 11-1, tying the team record for their best start through 12 games. They were 11-1 in 2010-11. The Spurs will also host New Orleans on t ...
Here are today's Must-See Matchups: Key Game: Indiana Pacers at New York Knicks: Last postseason, the Pacers eliminated the Knicks in the second round of the playoffs. With the absence of Tyson Chandler, Roy Hibbert will most likely take advantage. -Washington Wizards at Cleveland Cavaliers: Former overall picks John Wall and Kyrie Irving headline the matchup. Can Wall build on last night's success, or will Kyrie and the Cavs claim the victory? -LA Clippers at Minnesota Timberwolves: Last week, the Clippers defeated the Timberwolves in a close game. In the second game of this series, the Wolves will try to upset the Clippers. -Houston Rockets at Dallas Mavericks: Earlier this season, the Rockets decimated the Mavs in Houston. Dirk and Monta will try to give the Rockets a taste of their own medicine at home. -Memphis Grizzlies at Golden State Warriors: Despite the absence of Steph Curry, Igoudala and Thompson will seek to slaughter the Grizzlies, who currently hold a 3 game road win streak. -Jordan23

As usual, here are your weekly Power Rankings! 1. Oklahoma City Thunder. Sitting on eight straight wins with an easy week (New Orleans and Sacramento at home) on tap. Could be the first team to log a double-digit win streak. 2. San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs set the franchise record for 3-pointers (19) against Charlotte, beating the old record (17), also set against Charlotte. That puts the Spurs in a large pool: teams that like playing the Bobcats. 3. New York Knicks. Lost to the Nets last time out but will look for some vengeance Tuesday in Brooklyn, and again on December 19 at Madison Square Garden. 4. Memphis Grizzlies. Given their performance and injury situation in the West, it's easy to imagine the trio of Rudy *** Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol all appearing in the All-Star Game. 5. Los Angeles Clippers. Whoever said Vinny Del *** is not an offensive-minded coach? The Clips are fourth in the league in offensive efficiency and are averaging 108.8 points on their six-game winning streak. 6. Miami Hea .. ...

Dig Deeper From Chicken Soup for the Soul: Inside Basketball By Nicole Musselman Boykin, Dallas, TX I grew up in a basketball family, the daughter and sister of two NBA coaches. My brother, Eric Musselman, has been an assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks, Orlando Magic and Memphis Grizzlies. He has been the head coach for the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings. My father, Bill Musselman, was a coach in the NCAA, the ABA, the CBA and the NBA. He was head coach for Ashland College, The University of Minnesota, San Diego Sails, Cleveland Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves. In 2000 my father was an assistant coach with the Portland Trail Blazers when he suffered a stroke and was later diagnosed with bone cancer. Days before my father died, at age fifty-nine, he could not walk. His eyes had circles underneath them the color of darkened grapes. His voice was raspy and low. His weight had plunged. His kidneys no longer worked. He had cancer. The last day we saw him we arri ...
