When James passes, the first thing people say is "Michael Jordan wouldn't pass." That's revisionist history at its best, as if Jordan did not give the ball up to Scottie Pippen in the final seconds of Game 6 of the 1993 Finals against the Phoenix Suns or pass to Steve Kerr for the winning shot in Game 6 of the 1997 Finals against the Utah Jazz. But if it's not the way James plays, he's criticized for how many championships he has or doesn't have. That's another silly point. James is 2-2 in Finals, including a 2007 Finals loss to the Spurs. You know who the key contributors were on that Cleveland Cavaliers team with James? Sasha Pavlovic, Drew Gooden, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Larry Hughes, Anderson Varejao, Daniel Gibson, Eric Snow. It's amazing the Cavs even made it out of the first round.Larry Bird was 3-2 in the Finals and Magic Johnson was 5-4. Jerry West was 1-8, and he's the NBA's logo. Did those Finals losses take away from their legacy? Not at all. If it's not the way he plays or the number of champions ...

Sports Rumors There appears to be a strong trade market for Houston Rockets big man Omer Asik. At least four teams — the Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers — are interested in acquiring him, Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported Tuesday, and a fifth, unidentified, team is also in the mix. Houston is targeting big names in any deal, according to the report: Atlanta's Paul Millsap, Boston's Brandon Bass and Jeff Green, Cleveland's Anderson Varejao and Philadelphia's Thaddeus Young. Rose Departs Bulls' Victory With Hamstring Injury by THE ASSOCIATED PRESS November 12, 201312:01 AM CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Bulls were in the process of pulling away from the Cleveland Cavaliers when the game was robbed of any real significance. Derrick Rose was sitting at the end of Chicago's bench, and he was being attended to by a trainer. The sight of a grimacing Rose made for a tense scene at the United Center, but the dynamic point guard said it was just a minor right hamstring injury that led to his departure in the fourth quarter of Chicago's 96-81 victory on Monday night. "It's nothing big at all," said Rose, who missed all of last season while recovering from left knee surgery. "I'm still able to walk around, move around the way I want to. Just a little sore." Rose winced after he drove down the lane for a twisting layup with 3:39 left. He remained in the game for a short time before coach Tom Thibodeau called for a timeout to put in Kirk Hinrich. "He tweaked it. He'll be re-evaluated tomor ...
Good morning everyone. I said something about this last night and now Yahoo sports has made a article about it Anthony Bennett, the No. 1 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, hasn't made a shot through four games with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He's 0-for-15 and has two total points (both on free throws) while playing a relatively low 12.4 minutes per game as a back-up to Anderson Varejao and Tristan Thompson. He told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that it feels like the basket has a lid on it. Bennett's selection at No. 1 overall was a relative surprise. Nerlens Noel and Victor Oladipo were hot prospects before the draft, but Cleveland opted for Bennett — who was believed to be one of the more NBA-ready players in the class. His start has been far from ideal, though. It started in the preseason, when coach Mike Brown revealed that Bennett was suffering from both asthma and sleep apnea. Now he's struggling for playing time, and literally not making anything. His shot chart through four games:
At least one Cavs center will be ready to open training camp! Anderson Varejao is ready to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers after the Brazilian has been cleared by team doctors, declaring him ready when the Cavs open training camp in October. (VIDEO)...to Terry Pluto from cleveland.com, the 30-year old forward-center is finally healthy from various injuries, including leg problems (quadriceps) and blood clots. In the 2012-13 regular season, Varejao missed 57 games and in the last three seasons he has missed a total of 149 games and only played in 81. While considered injury-prone by many, Varejao has been very effective in the times he actually played. In 25 games in the 2011-12 regular season, he averaged 10.8 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. Last year, he bumped up those averages to an even more impressive 14.1 points and 14.3 rebounds per game, although he once again played in just another 25 games. When Varejao finally returns to Cleveland’s roster, he’d see a different, improved depth in the f ...
NBA: Evan Smith's Mock Draft: 1. Cleveland Cavaliers: Ben McLemore. McLemore was a freshman in college last year and really exploded onto the scene for the Kansas Jayhawks. He averaged 15.9 points last year, along with 5.2 rebounds, and 2 assists. The reason why he would be an optimal choice for first overall would be that the Cavs are not necessarily guard-heavy. They have a lot of solid big men, with a lot of potential like Cody Zeller, Anderson Varejao, Tristan Thompson and guys like that. I think McLemore would be a nice compliment for Dion Waiters and Kyrie Irving. Choosing Alex Len [the projected 1st overall choice] would be another big man with potential tossed onto the roster that isn't really needed for the Cavs.

1.) Cleveland Cavaliers- Nerlens Noel, PF, Kentucky (6'11", 215) Unlike the 2011 draft where Kyrie Irving was the clear cut the Cavs have their work cut out for them here. While this draft is unfortunately devoid of any franchise altering talents, Cleveland can still add a very nice piece to their rebuild in this spot. Having taken Dion Waiters with their first selection last year, it would seem to rule out Ben McLemore and Victor Oladipo from consideration, leaving Cleveland to select between Noel and Otto Porter. Porter might seem to be a better fit systematically, but Noel has a better shot at being a truly special player, which could tip the scales in his favor. While his offensive game is still very much a work in progress, he’s a game changing defensive presence that won’t have to step in right away because of the presence of Anderson Varejao, Tristan Thompson, and last year’s 1st rounder Tyler Zeller. That’s a good thing, too, because Noel is likely to miss most of the first half of the se ...
If the Cleveland Cavaliers do the smart thing and draft Ben McLemore, they may be a playoff team in 2013-2014. Their starting lineup would look like this: PG- Kyrie Irving SG- Ben McLemore SF- Alonzo Gee PF- Tristan Tompson C- Anderson Varejao and Wayne Ellington, Dion Waiters, and Tyler Zeller off the bench.
Irving's 35 Pace Cavaliers Over Thunder by THE ASSOCIATED PRESS February 02, 201311:08 PM CLEVELAND (AP) — Kyrie Irving wasn't just interested. He was incredible. With one shot better than his last, Irving scored 35 points, including 13 in the final 2:52, as the Cleveland Cavaliers stunned the Oklahoma City Thunder 115-110 on Saturday. One night after saying he was "disinterested" during a loss in Detroit, Irving was simply spectacular down the stretch. He single-handedly closed out one of the NBA's best teams, making his last five shots and showing why he's an All-Star at age 20. Irving's biggest bucket was a 3-pointer with 42 seconds left to make it 113-108. "He's a killer," said newly acquired Cavs forward Marreese Speights, who added 21 points. "I knew a little about him, I didn't know THAT." Kevin Durant scored 32 points and Russell Westbrook had 28 for the Thunder, who came in 35-11 and with the league's best road record. Durant left briefly in the third quarter with an injured rib, but returned a ...

Kyrie Irving beats out LeBron James, several others, to win 1st ever NBA Player of the Week Award! CLEVELAND – Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving was named today as the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, January 21st through Sunday, January 27th. “This has been a very good week for our team,” Irving said. “We're working hard and making progress. While I'm honored to win the award this week, the most important and exciting thing is our success as a team and continuing our focus to keep getting better every day.” In three games during the week, Irving averaged an NBA-best 35.7 points on .612 (41-67) shooting, including .545 (6-11) from beyond the arc and .950 (19-20) from the foul line, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.7 steals in 36.7 minutes per game. Irving wins the award for the first time of his career. Cleveland was the only team in the East to go undefeated this past week. Irving was also the only player in the East to have three 30-point games, becomi ...

-NBA PM: Timberwolves Still After Gasol, Varejao It’s one of the worst-kept secrets in the NBA that the Minnesota Timberwolves would love to have Pau Gasol in their lineup. They had multiple conversations with the Los Angeles Lakers last season, and Gasol’s apparent struggles this season have not dissuaded the Timberwolves in the slightest. Head coach Rick Adelman sees Gasol as the ideal big man to run his Princeton offense, and the team has multiple pieces to send out in an effort to make a deal happen, starting with forward Derrick Williams. For their part, the Lakers are preaching patience after a knee-jerk reaction saw them fire head coach Mike Brown at the beginning of the season. As a result, while the Timberwolves still see Gasol as the best-case scenario for them, they have also had at least preliminary discussions with the Cleveland Cavaliers about center Anderson Varejao, whom the Cavs would prefer to keep but are considering trading because he is more interested in competing with a playoff ...

According to a new report from Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal, LeBron James is open to the possibility of returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers if he chooses to opt out of his contract with the Miami Heat after the 2013/14 season. Lloyd writes that James is friends with Cavs players Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson, and his new agent, Rich Paul, has local ties. Lloyd adds, however, that Cavs GM Chris Grant is aware that the team must improve considerably in order to be considered a viable option for James. Grant is reportedly aggressively exploring options to add another impact player. Lloyd reports that Grant asked about trading an Anderson Varejao-based package for Kevin Love following Love's recent comments critical of the Timberwolves, but was rebuffed. He has also inquired on the possibility of trading for the Blazers' LaMarcus Aldridge, the Grizzlies' Marc Gasol, and the Lakers' Pau Gasol. Lloyd writes that although the Cavs are still open to moving Varejao, who is having an outstanding sea ...

BOSTON (AP) -- Cleveland Cavaliers center Anderson Varejao missed Wednesday night's game against the Boston Celtics because of a bruised right knee. Varejao, the NBA's leading rebounder at 14.4 per game, was injured Tuesday night against Toronto when he landed awkwardly on his right leg and crumpled to the floor in pain after being fouled late in the first quarter. He limped to the locker room, but returned with 9:04 remaining in the second quarter and finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds in 39 minutes. After the game coach Byron Scott said he was still concerned about Varejao's availability against the Celtics. Rookie Tyler Zeller got his first career start in Varejao's place.

LAST NIGHT'S NBA GAME UPDATE: The Orlando Magic were awful in the 1st half against the Cleveland Cavaliers they kept turning the ball over they were allowing them to get offensive boards and they got out-rebounded as well. Luckily for the Magic they got to play a 2nd half because it was completely different. They started to move the ball more, kept finding open shooters in the corner, they only turn the ball over 2 times in the 2nd half. Less turnovers equals more assists which they had 21 to the Cavaliers 19 assists. The Magic's 3-point shooting coming into this was the 2nd worst, but in this game the felt a lot more comfortable shooting the 3-point ball. Because of there ball movement they shot 11-21 from 3-point land and 2 players finished with at least 4+ 3-point field goals. SG JJ Redick a 90% free-throw shooter was fouled 4 times in the final 20 seconds and was 8-8 from the line. The Magic were out-scored 22-8 in the paint in the 1st half, but in the 2nd half they out-scored the Cavaliers 32-18 in p ...

Report: Howard Ready To Join Lakers Dwight Howard has long coveted the Brooklyn Nets as his next landing spot, but after a summer filled with daily rumors of four-team trade proposals, the six-time All-Star has moved on from his Big Apple infatuation and is locked in on joining the Los Angeles Lakers, sources tell RealGM. The Lakers, Orlando Magic and Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly discussing a three-team trade that would send Howard to the Lakers, Andrew Bynum to the Cavaliers, while the Magic would receive Anderson Varejao and multiple draft picks. Howard has always been impressed with the Lakers’ winning tradition and intrigued with the off-court opportunities that come with playing in Los Angeles. Questions about Howard’s role with the team, however, became an early concern for the three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year. Howard has since moved on from those concerns and is confident he will be an integral part of a team that will have a chance to compete immediately for a championship, ac ...
Prior to the news, Howard leaked that he would only consider re-signing with the Brooklyn Nets (his favored destination) and the Dallas Mavericks. However, the Dallas Mavericks had little of value to offer the Orlando Magic in terms of a trade partner aside from the ability to swallow their unwanted contracts. The Brooklyn Nets, meanwhile, were unable to broker an elaborate trade that would have involved two other teams (Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers). The Cavaliers have once again moved into position to facilitate a potential trade between the Lakers and Magic. In the proposed transaction, talented but headstrong center Andrew Bynum would be sent to Cleveland, scrappy veteran power forward Anderson Varejao would be dealt to Orlando along with a number of draft picks, and Howard would be on his way to Los Angeles. It is important to note what incentive the Orlando Magic franchise has to agree to this deal. Is Varejao and draft picks along with cap relief the best package Orlando can pull fo ...
