Civil Rights & President Obama

Civil and political rights are a class of rights that protect individuals' freedom from unwarranted infringement by governments and private organizations, and ensure one's ability to participate in the civil and political life of the state without discrimination or repression. The Presidency of Barack Obama began at noon EST on January 20, 2009, when he became the 44th President of the United States. 5.0/5

Here is a TRUE anti-Racist not that Skip Gates, Al Sharpton and Tim Wise rubbish. Never anti-White. Never anti-Semitic. Never a Nationalist. Never an amasser of wealth. Only Pro-truth and anti-Capitalist domination of ALL poor/ working class peoples domestically and globally unlike President Obama and the past four presidential administrations. The son of an escaped slave, Paul Robeson did what NONE of the "anti-racist elite" would do today--he sacrificed his career and his health for those less fortunate an to uphold the constitution. Despite being the most famous man in the world (All American, Pro-Football, Lawyer, Phi Beta Kappa, concert singer, film actor, Broadway star, multi-lingual) for nearly two decades, he's been written out of US history books. Hounded by the highest elements of the US power structure and intelligence community to his death bed, his passport confiscated for 8 years under the McCarran Act. This man built the entire foundation of the civil rights movement an US anti-Colonialist ...
I've kept a silence on this issue, but I'm ready to form an opinion and speak on it. Martin Luther King Jr. had to converse with a white President. The same can be said of other civil rights leaders of the past. I choose not to ignore the euphoric atmosphere that took place (young and old alike) when he (President Obama) took office. Black people went out and voted who had NEVER voted before. Sadly, I know some voted solely off the strength there was a black candidate that MIGHT have a chance. He was NEVER our "savior"; he is just ONE man. Civil rights leaders should be doing all they can to meet, and sit, with this current President and provide viable ideas for change within THIS country. On an individual note, WE control our households, and there is more power in that than what ANY administration can provide you. If you don't believe the BIGGEST change has to come from within, I'm sorry; we just have to RESPECTFULLY disagree.

Eric Holder works for President Obama. Eric Holder worked for President Clinton, Republican President Reagan, and Republican President Bush. In 2007, The Best Lawyers in America Edition and in 2008 The National Law Journal named Eric Holder as one of "The Most 50 Influential Lawyers in America" and by "Legal Times" as the "Greatest Washington Lawyers of the Past 30 Years." In 1988, Holder was nominated by former President Reagan to become an associate judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. During this time he presided over hundreds of civil and criminal trials. Holder was then nominated by President Clinton to serve as the U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C. in 1993. He was the first African-American to serve in the position. During his four-year term, he created a domestic violence unit, a community prosecution project, and a program for restricting gun laws. In 1997, Holder made history yet again when President Clinton nominated him to be the deputy Attorney General. Holder was quickly ...
This is actual email sent out by Howard Dean's "Democracy for America" defending the thugs, goons and rioters. It should be clear to all Americans whose side these people are on -- NOT OURS!!! Rick -- The situation in Ferguson, Missouri continues to get worse. Local officials won't investigate the killing of Michael Brown by a police officer. Rather than work with the community to lower tensions, they're shooting tear gas at children and bringing in the National Guard to turn the town into an armed camp. During the 1950s and 1960s, when local authorities would not pursue justice, the federal government stepped in. President Eisenhower sent U.S. marshals to escort African American children to school. President Kennedy sent the FBI to investigate the murders of Civil Rights Activists. President Obama has sent Attorney General Holder and the FBI to Missouri to investigate the killing of Michael Brown. That's a good start. But they need to help de-escalate the police response in order to provide justice and . ...
How The FBI Invaded Martin Luther King Jr.’s Privacy — And Tried To Blackmail Him Into Suicide Every year, the memory of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. evokes a nationwide sense of self reflection. The legendary Civil Rights leader forced the country to take a cold, hard look in the mirror and face the bitter treatment and hypocritical denial of basic liberties to African-Americans. But years after his death, not only do the icon’s words still ring true, but the government’s extreme plot to bring him down proves how far the country still has to go with respect to civilian privacy. Just a few days after President Obama laid out a plan for modest changes to the National Security Agency, and months after the public clamor provoked by the leaks from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, this Martin Luther King Day shines a light on a stain on the government’s history when it went through great lengths to destroy a man it now celebrates. FBI records give a detailed account of the organization’s ef ...
Tracy Knauss 10 April 50 YEARS AFTER THE Civil Rights Act, AMERICA IS GOING BACKWARDS — The hard fought freedoms enshrined in the Civil Rights and the Voting Rights Act in the 1960s are being attacked today by Republicans who are enacting unprecedented laws to suppress the right to vote. Today, President Obama discussed the challenges our citizens face as their civil rights are being assaulted at the local, state and national levels. And now our Supreme Court, which should be the institution protecting civil rights, has joined the radicals attacking basic rights of our citizens guaranteed in our Constitution. This has to change, and we must make it happen, starting this November when we have to get rid of the Republican majority in the House and maintain the majority in the Senate. Then we can begin to make progress. Help make it happen
This year’s theme for the month, “Civil Rights in America,” celebrates that landmark legislation. As we at OPM work to create a Federal workforce that reflects the bright mosaic of the American people, we should take time to reflect on the trailblazers and civil rights leaders who chose to continue their service to the American people by becoming Federal workers. Just two years after President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act, he appointed Robert C. Weaver as the first Secretary of the new Department of Housing and Urban Development. Weaver’s Federal service dated back to President Roosevelt’s administration and he became the first African American to hold a Cabinet post. And we shouldn’t forget that such more well-known African American leaders as Thurgood Marshall, the first African American to sit on the United States Supreme Court and Colin Powell, the first African American Secretary of State were, in fact, Federal workers. Their service, and the example set by President Obama, can be ...

Candidate for Congress compares 'Duck Dynasty' star to Rosa Parks (Chicago Sun Times) WHAT?!? A Republican candidate for Congress is actually comparing civil rights icon Rosa Parks to a reality show star. And not only that -- comparing Parks to a man who claims African-Americans were perfectly happy BEFORE the Civil Rights movement. It's a jarring reminder of the ugly ignorance we're facing right now. Here's the bottom line: President Obama has 3 years left in office. We can't expect him to make real progress so long as these backwards-thinking Tea Party Republicans control Congress.

President Obama's Thirst for Insulting Blacks: A Psycho-Social-Political Search for Motives Posted by james wilson on June 2, 2013 at 4:23am in Hot Stuff SegmentSend Message View Discussions Since President Obama's arrival on the national scene a little over four years ago, and was declared "the first clean, fresh, and intelligent" Black in history, the "role model" has exhibited an insatiable thirst for insulting African Americans. These insults have been manifested both actively and passive aggressively. Actively, he has established a pattern of "talking down" to Blacks by "signifying and playing the dozens." Passive aggressively, he has insulted Blacks by his willful failure to mention them in his election-victory and policy speeches (insult by omission). He has done these things despite the fact that African Americans are the demographic group most responsible for, in the words of his 2008 campaign theme song by Jackie Wilson, "lifting [him] higher, and higher, than [he'd] ever been lifted before." .. ...

Something is going on in this nation that we either refuse to acknowledge or have become too distracted to address. What is for sure though is that the nation is bitterly divided and any effort toward a political reunion or even a settled compromise for that matter appears implausible. How did this happen? How did this ‘once great nation,’ as my conservative friends like to say, come to a point in our national history where we’re so divided? Sure, you could say that the era of the Civil War was our most divided time; however, you’d be mistaken. The issues that made up that division were primarily two: slavery and states’ rights (depending on which side of the Mason/Dixon Line you grew up on, that is.)   Today, we stand divided on almost every issue from *** Rights to Civil Rights, immigration, abortion, women in the military, home/public/for-profit school, security, defense, international relations, to whether or not President Obama is even a citizen of this nation. What has happe ...

NRB: Christians May Have to Choose God over Gov't. Leaders at this week's National Religious Broadcasters conference warned Christians may soon be forced to practice civil disobedience. Southern Baptist leader Richard Land and NRB board member Janet Parshall cited same-sex marriage and President Obama's birth control mandate as the reason why. Land said those issues are non-negotiable, even at the cost of paying fines and going to jail. Parshall said today's Christians may have to decide whether to "bow our knee" to government or to God. The U.S. Supreme Court will consider cases filed by supporters of same-sex marriage this month, and dozens of lawsuits have been filed against the contraceptive coverage mandate. Meanwhile, NRB President Frank Wright warned that Christian broadcasters' religious freedom is at risk. Wright urged this year's convention goers in Nashville to unite to defend their right to spread the Gospel. He warned biblical teachings are being dubbed hate speech -- and there's growing pote ...
I am listening to Rev. Al Sharpton’s radio show, per usual. He, as you know, and other Civil Rights leaders met with President Obama to present a “Black Agenda.” On the issue of pardons and incarceration, he said that the President told them that the pardons process needs to be reformed, and that he needs an agenda from them to move forward on trying to reform the system. I love President Obama, but waiting for an agenda is an excuse to wait until he is about to leave office before seriously looking at the applications in front of him. He doesn’t have to wait for an agenda, Pro Publica (an article that I will post below) has done research on the broken pardons system. The U.S. Constitution put pardons on the federal level in the hands of the President, thus President Obama can act now. Clarence Aaron, for example, should be issued a pardon today. Here was a non-violent, non-drug dealing college student who got King-Pin time- 3 life sentences, he has served around 20 or so. When someone caught up . ...
Confession: I watch these slavery and Civil Rights documentaries and then I laugh at the gall of some of today's White people. Given this history in America as it relates to Black people, many Whites get into heated discussions with Black Americans about America's policies, politics and a Black president. Now, I'm all for discussions and whatnot, but if I were a White person, after hundreds of years of outright evil and jackassery brought on by "my kind", I'd let Black folks soak in these eight years and sit my happy *** down. Because with all his Blackness, if America had to truly pay a debt for the past, President Obama is FAR milder that what probably "should" be sitting in the White House right now (RIP, Huey Newton). As a White person in America, I wouldn't have a single word to say about anything related to American government until after 2016. In fact, it would be a SIN in my book to utter the name "Barack Hussein Obama" without adding the word "Saint" in front of it...(But I guess God had His reas ...
The Hood in trouble. Sale Out *** Jackson For Thirty Pieces Of Silver. This have nothing to do with guns. Rev. Jesse Jackson Calls For Homeland Security to Patrol the Streets of Chicago inShare Civil Rights leader Jesse Jackson and marchers in Chicago urged President Obama to visit the city so that he can get a sense of the violence which is currently terrorizing so many of the city's residents. "When the president shows up, it shows ultimate national seriousness," said Jackson, a Chicago resident. Jackson also called for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to help patrol the violent streets of Chicago. Reuters reports on the carnage in Chicago: Gun violence in Chicago has been in the national spotlight over the past year, with 506 murders in 2012, an increase of 17 percent from the previous year. As of Thursday, there were 42 homicides and 157 shootings so far this year, according to Chicago police. The issue received new urgency with the killing this week of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, an honor . ...

it's Black History Month, and i am watching a wonderful movie on the lifetime channel honoring Betty Shabazz (played by Mary J. Blige) and Coretta Scott King (played by Angela Bassett). We so often have heard about their husbands and watched their lives play before us, but this is a documentary of what their wives life was were like while married to these great men. Sometimes people wonder why our Black race and a majority of the white race is so impressed with President Obama's election and re-election, because that is what our Civil Rights leaders lived and died for. They were killed and suffered greatly so that America would change their views on race. When you work beside a black or white person try to really get to know them and not just assume but try and place yourself in their struggle and you will see why we are so proud of having an African American President. i would encourage you to watch this movie because we all know Lifetime repeats itself and it will be on again. "Change is Possible"
I like the idea of telling the story of Coretta Scott-King and Betty Shabazz, but I don't like the Implication of the Nation and Minister Farrakahn being involved in Malcolm X (El Hajj Malik Shabazz) assassination. The FBI had the Cointel pro (Counter Intelligence Progams) in full effect. The objective of the Cointel pro was to create division among all black organizations. They would infiltrate with agents who caused in fighting. This occurred in the Nation and the Civil Rights movement. Today our so called black leadership plays it so safe that black progress have been stifled. Al Sharpton and others are presenting to President Obama the same issues Malcolm and Martin presented 50 years ago. WE NEED THIS GENERATION OF YOUTH TO PULL THE NEGATIVE HIP HOP OUT OF YOUR HEARS AND STAND UP AND TAKE YOUR PLACE AS CHANGE AGENTS.
CAIR Receives Civil Rights Award at Muslim Inaugural Event (WASHINGTON, D.C., 1/22/13) -- The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, received the first-ever Golden Minaret Award for "Excellence in Civil Rights" Sunday night at an event marking President Obama's second inauguration. CAIR National Legal Director Nadhira Al-Khalili received the award at the Muslim American Inaugural Benefit Gala held Sunday at the Josephine Butler Parks Center in Washington, D.C. The gala was attended by elected and public officials, community leaders, activists, entertainers, and athletes. According to the event sponsors, the Golden Minaret Awards Program is "similar to the 'ALMA' or 'NAACP Image Awards'" and recognizes a cross section of American Muslims and their organizations and institutions. Just watch the President Obama's inauguration on The Most Honorable Dr. Martin Luther King Day. Obama's speech was honorable. I respect all of the brothers and sisters in Civil Rights movement , Black Power Movement, Garvey Movement, The Black Wall Street, Pan-African Movement, The Colonial Explosion in Africa, Reconstruction Movement We as Africans Global People have much more too doon this earth we have understand the Messages that Ella Baker, James Baldwin, Arlam Carr, Fannie Lou Hamer, Fredrick Douglass, Edward Wilmot Blyden, Henry Sylvester Williams, Alexander Crummell, Martin Delany, Kwame Nkrumah, Remember what El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz(Malcolm X)said its not about just Civil Right buts Human Rights !
Lift Every Voice and Sing... Till Earth and Heaven Ring... Ring with the Hormonies of Liberty... Can you finish the lyrics??? I'm so PLEASED to be able to watch the second Inauguration of President Obama on this day so many never wanted; a Holiday for Dr. Martin L. King Jr Fifty years ago Dr. King give his "I Have a Dream" speech in Washington D.C. So many of our great-grandparents, great-aunts & uncles marched, boycotted and was arrested, abused and died fighting for Civil Rights in the United State of America. Today Obama will takes his place again. Dr. King's Dream lives on. ...LET US MARCH ON TILL VICTORY IS WON!
A once in a lifetime day, today. Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This man devoted most of his life for the betterment of African Americans. I feel that as more time accumulates between his death and current time that we are becoming less and less thankful for the efforts and courage that King and the whole Civil Rights movement showed. I am thankful because had it not been for King and the movement I would still be a college student, but possibly limited to HBCU's which are still heavily underfunded compared to a PWI, could possibly know Jim Crow as a reality instead of a time in history that this country will never repeat. Most importantly, on this sacred day, our president, the first African American president in US history, will celebrate the beginning of his second term with the nation. It was in God's will that this day would be when President Obama shared his agenda for the next four years with a country that has grown so much over the last fifty years. Though racism will never be completely cure ...
Watching Melissa Harris-Perry Show about the second inauguration of President Obama. She is speaking with the widow of Medgar Evers and they are discussing the long road of Civil Rights. Seeing those old black and white photos of that era, I realize that my entire philosphy of life was shaped by those times and the fight for Civil Rights. Because even as a young child, I knew what was happening to Black Americans was wrong. Racism was wrong then, it is still wrong. So thank you Martin, Medgar, Rosa and all the people whose names I don't know for standing up and fighting for your rights. You shaped the lives of many people in the process.
Make no mistake... Obama is creating a National Security Economic [Fiscal] crisis among other planned events with the goal [ultimately to cause the downfall of these United States] of undermining our "Rule of Law" and to position himself for "Emergency Powers" in order to stay in office as "Commander & Chief. He will then declare "Martial Law" and disarm U.S. citizens and create a "Police State", circumventing the Constitution, bleed in "Sharia Law", overrule our "Civil Rights", disband a dysfunctional Congress and remove all "Civil Liberties" & "Personal Sovereignty". He has no interest in preserving "Life, Liberty nor the pursuit of Happiness".   Anyone who thinks these things cannot happen here is not an honest student of history and should pull their head out of the sand. Obama represents a "Clear and Present Danger to these United States of America and may even be guilty of Treason [by action or inaction]. At the very least, his actions threaten the very existence of our great nation as we know i ...

WHAT A WHITE Associate Professor of History WROTE IN A GEORGIA NEWSPAPER About Race and President Obama (thanks Ezekiel Pajibo for sharing) Date: Mon, 29 Oct 2012 08:50:50 -0400 This is a MUST read which resonates with at least 90% of the world. Please, please pass this one on, even if you have to print it and mail it to your "computer challenged" friends and relatives. Don't forget your Caucasian friends and "relatives". Andrew M. Manis is Associate Professor of history at Macon State College in Georgia and wrote this for an editorial in the Macon Telegraph. Andrew M. Manis: When Are WE Going to Get Over It? For much of the last forty years, ever since America "fixed" its race problem in the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts, we white people have been impatient with African Americans who continued to blame race for their difficulties. Often we have heard whites ask, "When are African Americans finally going to get over it? Now I want to ask: "When are we White Americans going to get over our ridiculous ...
I Am always SO Happy to meet the cast and crew of Lawless America! :) We Are going to ROCK this Nation and take it by fire storm when hundreds of Us go to Washington in January!!! When I was finally successful through HUD FOIA to demand them to release My HUD 'Fair and Equal ' Housing report that erroneously and illegally concluded that I was not retaliated against, the HUD employee in Boston in charge of My request, God Bless Him, Ron Armstead, said that I created quite a fire storm at HUD. This was this past Spring and after over a years worth of repeated attempts, including demands all the way to HUD Secretary Donovan who I have made repeated attempts since May 20, 2011 to contact. This fire storm has made it all the way to President Obama who sent Me an e-mail from The White House last year telling Me to contact the Justice Department. I waited, as I take My direction from the Holy Spirit who guided Me to make that complaint to the Civil Rights Division that brought a complaint on behalf of the Latino ...
This country was started with the odds stacked against us in the Revolutionary War. We have made it through a Civil War, we stumbled through the Great Depression and Dust Bowl, won 2 World Wars, ended communism and the Third Reich, abolished slavery, established Civil Rights and overcame the attacks on September 11th, 2001. Although the candidate I approved of did not win the most electoral votes I stand firm in what the founding fathers established and do not take away anything from President Obama's Re-election. What's fair is fair, Bush won the electorate against Gore and it appears that Obama has won the Electorate against Romney. Tyranny of the majority is something this Country still must keep an eye on and we cannot argue that the rules are flawed when it does not go our way. I congratulate you Mr. President and I pray that you steer this country into a prosperous direction.
History tells us so much about ourselves, our country and allways will. Republican President Lincoln, signed the Emmancipation Proclamation esssenttially conceding the south to the Democrats for over one-hundred years. Democratic President Johnson, signed the Voting Rights Act, Civil Rights Act and erased all the Democratic gains in the south for close to fifty-years. History will show that the Republicans today, are on the wrong side of history in respect to, WOMEN, minorities, Immmigration, birth controll and that ever expanding voting block that we call LATINOS! It is time to heal, lets hope in the next 1547 days President Obama has left in office , Congress and the Senate work with him for the betterment of our country. God bless you and God bless the United States of America!
African Americans in Florida are angry, and rightfully so, at Rick Scott and feel as though they're having to fight for their Civil Rights all over again and that it's as though Bull Connor is standing in the doorway blocking their way... There are Anglos in FL who planned to vote for Romney but who are so sickened by Scott's unconscionable actions that they voted for President Obama in protest... Stand strong, Floridians, stand strong!
Civil Rights, Women's Rights, *** Rights, Workers Rights, We are all in this together. Lets Re-elect President Obama and Sen. Sharrod Brown
Voters of Massachusetts. Eliz Warren wants us to believe that Scott Brown is against women getting equal pay for equal work because he voted no on the Ledbetter law that President Obama signed recently. What you need to know, which she isn't telling you is, there already a law on the books that guarenteed women and all workers equal pay for equal work steming back to the 60's Civil Rights Act. All this NEW law does is eliminates the statute of limitations on when a person can file for discrimination. It looks like all the new law does is benifit the "IF YOU'VE BEEN INJURED" trial lawyers, you know the ones that donate to senatorial campaign funds. People don't be misled by Elizabeth Warrens false claimes. Read the attached article. Then vote on Nov 6th for the real independant voice for we the people in Massachusetts.Sen Scott Brown
John 13:34-35 Christ said, "Now I am going to give you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you you should love each other. 35 Your love fro one another will prove to the world that you are My disciples." Vote for President Obama and democrats as we love everyone not just our party. Democrats gave us all that is good social security, Medicade, Medicare, Civil Rights, Voting Rights Act, and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. God bless you.
William Owens, Sr., a black pastor and veteran of the civil rights movement of the 1960s, spoke at the National Press Club on Tuesday to announce that a group he founded, the Coalition of African-American Pastors, is leading the charge against President Obama's recently announced support of *** marriage. As CNS News reported, CAAP's “Mandate for Marriage” campaign is "a nationwide effort to urge black voters to refrain from supporting President Barack Obama unless he retracts his support for *** marriage." Five additional black pastors joined Reverend Owens at the press conference. According to CNN, the group says over 3,700 black pastors are part of their initiative. In an emotionally charged speech, Owens vowed that his group would vigorously oppose the President so long as he supported *** marriage: The President is in the White House because of the Civil Rights movement, and I was a leader in that movement. I just sent an email to Step Cutter she heads up the ObamaTruth Team and you may have seen her on the Talk Shows. The subject matter of my email was that Romney and the RNC have already tipped their hat by stating that they are loading up Zingers to put down the President of the United States. Well us Obama Supporters are used to the Zingers we have endured them since Obama became president back in 2008. It’s been one wrong-headed bogus Conspiracy Theory after the other. We have seen the uprising of the Tea Party which is nothing more than those Southern Democratic s George Wallace types who left the Democratic Party over the Civil Rights movement in 1965, who infiltrated the Grand Ole Party and the 1% Neo Cons have been using you like mindless cows for fodder (votes) for years now. That it’s important for President Obama to prepare facts not Zingers. But more importantly we have been three yards and a cloud of dust this election. We now have their defense soften up and we have some good numbers ...
On average, 1,200 Black unborn babies die every day in the USA by abortion - 16 million since 1973. African Americans are the only minority in America declining in population due to being targeted by the abortion industry - an industry full y supported by President Obama, America's first Black president, the NAACP, Urban League, almost every member of the Congressional Black Congress (the only exception I know of is Republican Allen West), the most prominent Black civil rights leaders (e.g. Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rev. Al Sharpton, Andrew Young etc.) and most every Black politician holding elected office at every level of government. Add to that the African American clergy, who monolithically continue to remain silent despite the unabated carnage.
I saw and heard President Bill Clintons speech in support of President Obama, man that man can deliver a speech. It is true GW Bush raped the U.S. economy and left a *** of a Mess for President Obama to Dig this Goverment out from. Just the same I wish President Obama had not catered to the Republicans as much as he did during the 3 years he has being in office. The Wars in the Middle East should be over and ended, they are not. Immigration is a an issue of Human and Civil Rights that needs more attention than what he has given to it. The War On Drugs must end . Hey, other than that he has done a good job. Vote Green and give Jill Stein a chance to finish cleaning up the Mess GW left behind.
"None of us got where we are solely by pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps. We got here because somebody - a parent, a teacher, an Ivy League crony or a few nuns - bent down and helped us pick up our boots," said Thurgood Marshall, putting the lie to and pointing up the emptiness and hypocrisy of the WE BUILT IT slogan which is the biggest lie of all at this lie-fest known as the GOP convention. Moreover, it was on this date in 1967 Marshall was confirmed as the first African American justice of the Supreme Court. Let us recall this giant of the Civil Rights era and of the court today and honor his memory by remembering not only his legacy but also that this election is about many very big issues, among which one of the biggest is who gets to appoint the next couple of Supreme Court Justices. For that reason alone, we MUST re-elect President Obama. For the sake of the legacy of Justice Marshall, we MUST. Please. Honor this great man's memory by rejecting the Romney/Ryan ticket.
... Hillary Clinton as boxing corner coach to Jonathan. . Wednesday, 15 August 2012 05:00 .President Barack Obama’s first African tour did not bring him to Nigeria. It took him to Ghana, the harbinger in 1957 of African independence from the colonial masters. Ghana was already scoring new firsts, with an unfolding enviably transparent democratic process, good governance, and a thriving economy to show for it. President Obama was there to acclaim and offer pointers to African leadership, and teach on Nationalism, Liberty and Democracy. This alone, made Ghana relive history as beacon and became a symbol of commitment to transparent democracy, good governance and accountability. Of course Ghana, like Angola, was now finding oil. The Obamas have been to Africa at other times, Kenya, for obvious reasons, as the president’s roots, and to South Africa, essentially to relate with the great Nelson Mandela, and F.W. de Klerk, the duo that dismantled white minority rule, and Bishop Desmond Tutu. United States Se ...
President Obama makes the absurd claim that his kindergarden status kept him from marching in those Civil Rights marches in the sixties. Who does he think he's fooling with that lame excuse? He will likely use that same excuse for not going to Viet Nam. Yeah, sure, you know we believe that one. Kindergarden, my *** He was big for his age but surely acted like Ted Nugent and craped his pants for a month to avoid the draft. At least he did not hide out in France. And I am sure he has an off-shore account in the Caymans.
If you listen to conservative leaders or Fox News, the passage of the Health Care bill that President Obama signed into law is, and I quote, “the apocalypse.” Democrats and MSNBC, on the other hand, are hailing it as everything from the greatest legislative accomplishment since Civil Rights t
Just in: There is no better place than church to talk about political issues because they are ultimately moral issues, First Lady Michelle Obama told a church gathering on Thursday. “To anyone who says that church is no place to talk about these issues, you tell them there is no place better – no place better,” Obama told the African Methodist Episcopal Church’s 49th general conference, held in in Nashville, Tenn. “Because ultimately, these are not just political issues – they are moral issues,” she said. “They’re issues that have to do with human dignity and human potential, and the future we want for our kids and our grandkids.” Bill Donahue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, said the comments amounted to politicizing religion. “Michelle Obama followed in the footsteps of her husband yesterday when she called for the politicization of religion,” he said in a statement. “President Obama has explicitly called for ‘congregation captains’ to organ ...
The Republicans are wanting to repeal the Voting Rights Act of 1965 ( platform plank). I've been in those days. I have also seen the days when we had to pay Pole Tax to vote. Why go backward? ...The Voting Rights Act of 1965 prohibited States from imposing any "votings qualification or prerequisite to voting, or standard, practice, or procedure..to deny or abridge the right of any citizen of the United States to vote on account of race or color". Specifically, Congress intended the act to outlaw the practice of requiring otherwise quilified voters to pass literlacy tests in order to vote, a principal means by which Southern States had prevented African Americans from exercising the franchise. The act was signed into law by Pres. Lyndon B. Johnson , a Dem., who had earlier signed the landmark Civil Rights of 1964 into law...Wikipidia. President Obama is moving forward not backward!!!
For whatever they are worth these are my observations of the US Supreme Court decision upholding OBAMACARE. Yes, I am proud to call it OBAMACARE. The Affordable Health Act was developed by President Obama. It is a HIS piece of legislation to make sure that ALL Americans will have Health Care protection. I applaud Chief Justice Roberts for not only understanding and supporting what the President had enacted but for going the extra yard to find a way to support it under the US Constitution. My feeling is that Justice Roberts could be evolving into another Earl Warren who was also appointed by a Republican President and became one of the major proponents for protecting all Americans. Unlike his predecessor as Chief Justice who in 2000 caved in to the right wing and to his Republican allies Justice Roberts stood up to the right wing hate rhetoric coming from the Republican Party and The Tea Party. I feel that as Chief Justice he wants to leave a legacy of protecting all Americans. He does not want to promot ...
Sam Donaldson has called me a racist because I disagree with the direction President Obama is taking our nation. If that is the new standard defining racism all the blacks who disliked George Bush's policies are racist. We have redefined the meaning of words. When I was growing up in the sixties a racist was a guy wearing a white hood who burned crosses. A bigot is someone who treats others with contempt based on skin color or other criteria. A bigot becomes a racist when they act out on their prejudices and attempt to strip a person of their constitutional or Human Rights. History tells us it was the conservatives in government who freed the slaves and marched during the Civil Rights movement of the 60's. Racism was perpetuated by many Liberal Democrats especially in the South. Sorry Sam, your statement doesn't hold water!
Congratulations to my fourth graders who won First Place in "The Great Race". In this competition, students had to race from George Washington's birthplace to President Obama's birthplace in Honolulu, while criss-crossing the United States stopping at various other presidential birthplaces, battlefields, Civil Rights, Underground Railroad, and Great Depression sites. Students had to go from start to finish the fastest and cheapest and could not fly, except the last leg to Hawaii. Students worked in teams to plan, map, research and budget their costs and time. Also, students were required to do research on each stop as well. There were 13 other schools throughout the United States who competed in this challenge.
Uncle Stevie is a Smart Man! Let me remind many of you American's,,, of all nationalities, ethnicity and/or race. Not to long ago if you were Irish, German, Jewish , Japanese, African America, and etc. Your grand parents, mothers, fathers, daughters, son, and family members;were discriminated by skin tone, religion, sex, and many more. So how can anyone in America now be a hypocrite about letting anyone who wants to love someone to spend the rest of their life, work, housing with out discrimination. Your ancestors, immigration, and race family was helped with the civil rights marches. Equality of the Civil Rights in America is just not for the elite, religious, race, sex. President Obama is an example of Civil Rights progressing in America. Do you really want to take a chance in turning back time with electing Mitt Romney with his history with discrimination and redefine the bible and how god came about. Plus Allowing an elite take away your support system of food stamps, children's heath, and etc. We can ...
For the last month, Glenn Beck has been delivering the kinds of speeches he believes President Obama should have done since taking office. This Wednesday evening, the topic focused on the contributions of Civil Rights pioneer, Booker T. Washington, who believed that through establishing industry, pr...
In the 1968 presidential election against Vice President Hubert Humphrey, Richard Nixon and the Republican Party implemented a plan that has come to be known as the Southern Strategy. The Southern Strategy was a communications campaign with the goal of winning the previously unattainable votes of white Americans in the formerly Democratic South. The strategy was a direct campaign to leverage the resentment and fear among whites regarding the Civil Rights and Anti-War movements. So now we have the 2012 version of the Southern Strategy--a desperate gamble to lower the African-American vote in key Southern states by creating a wedge between blacks and *** -a divide and conquer strategy. There are numerous reports that there are national efforts underway to use the issue of *** marriage--which remains controversial among many African-Americans in general, and religious blacks in particular--as a way to deny President Obama a win in the key battleground states of North Carolina, Virginia, and Florida. The ult ...
Thank you President Obama for standing up for Marriage Equality and Human and Civil Rights.
"We cannot say we are a nation that stands for equality, while in the same breath denying basic rights of happiness, financial parity, and state-recognized companionship to millions... Separate can never be equal–a lesson we learned during the Civil Rights era that we have yet to apply to the struggle for LGBT rights today... The President has done the right thing, and history will remember him for it... On behalf of the LGBT community, and all those who support our cause, thank you, President Obama. Today, I can proudly feel wholly American." –George Takei
