Kicking off year 46 of my Korea, sorry career. This Saturday's 'Soul Cellar' is all about the joy of music. Including Curtis Mayfield, The Four Tops, Arthur Conley, Marvin Gaye, Georgie Fame, Chuck Berry, Billy Harner, Kim Weston, Major Lance, The O'Jays, Stevie Wonder, Sly & The Family Stone and more. It's a musical celebration of 'music'. That's what it's all been about for me since the beginning. Many thanks as ever for taking the trouble to tune in. See you Saturday at 2.
One I realized immediately that I left off, Rod Stewart, and of course, *** Jagger, Ozzie Osbourne, The Boss, Jon Anderson of Yes, Joni Mitchell, Jimi Hendrix, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Bob Seger, Elvis, Stevie Wonder, Steve Winwood, Lou Graham of Foreigner, B.B King, Little Richard, Eric Burden, Keith Relf of The Yardbirds, Al Stewart, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, Jim Morrison, Chuck Berry, James Brown, and I'm sure there are a few more. Rocking out to some oldies: Johnny Cash, Frankie Lymon, Platters, Coasters, Monotones, Stevie Wonder and my favorite, Chuck Berry.
The drumming influence for May 2nd is a drummer that I became aware of in the late 70's and he's still active and in demand today, it's Steve Jordan. Steve played on the Blues Brothers album back in 1978 (he did not do the movie) so when you heard "Soul Man", you heard Steve. Steve had a great feel and has been playing with the top names in music ever since (He also played drums in the Saturday Night Live Band). I really came to like him as a member of the Late Night with David Letterman band (Paul Schaffer and the Worlds Most Dangerous Band) on NBC. He was so fresh, funky and grooving on that show. Steve's groove and sound are so sleek and infectious, it's no wonder that he is such high demand. Steve started his career playing with Stevie Wonder and has gone on to play with Keith Richards, Aretha Franklin, Chuck Berry, Eric Clapton, Don Henley, John Mellencamp, Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, Sonny Rollins, BB King, Stevie Nicks, Sheryl Crow, Neil Young, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Kelly Clarkson, James Taylor ...
Received one of my Amazon purchases today which includes the following albums: "Here's Little Richard" (I unknowingly bought the newly remastered release which literally came out last week), Chuck Berry's "The Great Twenty-Eight", James Brown's "Live at the Apollo" and "In the Jungle Groove", Van Morrison's "Astral Weeks", Robert Johnson's "The Complete Recordings" box set, Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On", and Stevie Wonder's three masterpieces "Talking Book", "Innervisions", and "Songs in the Key of Life". I'm expecting some more stuff this weekend. My music collection has just expanded quite a bit.
