In 1957, in Portland, Oregon, Alan Freed's "The Biggest Show of Stars for 1957" concert tour played the Paramount Theater. Performers included Fats Domino, Buddy Holly and the Crickets, Chuck Berry, the Everly Brothers, Frankie Lymon, Buddy Knox, Clyde Mcphatter, Paul Anka, LaVern Baker, the Drifters, Eddie Cochran, the Bobettes, Johnnie & Joe, the Spaniels, and Jimmy Bowen. In 1961, Chubby Checker performed his original hit from the previous year, "The Twist," along with the followup "Let's Twist Again," in a medley on CBS-TV's "The Ed Sullivan Show." The exposure boosted both singles and propelled "The Twist" back to in early 1962, marking the only time in the history of the Billboard charts that the same single has reached the top spot in two separate years. Also appearing on that edition of the Sullivan show was Matt Monro singing his hit "My Kind Of Girl." In 1961, Helen Shapiro was at on the UK singles chart with "Walkin' Back To Happiness", her second and final UK chart topper. I ...

Bolan grew up in post-war Stoke Newington, in the borough of Hackney, East London, the son of Phyllis Winifred (née Atkins) and Simeon Feld, a lorry driver. His father was of Jewish (Russian/Polish) and Irish origin and his mother was from a Christian background. Later moving to Wimbledon, southwest London, he fell in love with the rock and roll of Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Arthur Crudup and Chuck Berry and hung around coffee bars such as the 2 I's in Soho. He appeared as an extra in an episode of the television show Orlando, dressed as a mod. At the age of nine, Bolan was given his first guitar and began a skiffle band. While at school, he played guitar in "Susie and the Hoops," a trio whose vocalist was a 12-year old Helen Shapiro. At 15, he was expelled from school for bad behaviour.

On this day, 1995, Legendary manager of Led Zeppelin Peter Grant died from a heart attack aged 60. Known as being one of the shrewdest and most ruthless managers in rock history, Grant secured 90% of concert gate money and intimidated record store owners who dealt in bootlegs. The former wrestler, also worked as a film extra and bodyguard. During the early 60’s Grant worked as a tour manager for Bo Diddley, The Everly Brothers, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent and The Animals.
Eddie Cochran Somehow, time has not accorded Eddie Cochran quite the same respect as other early rockabilly pioneers like Buddy Holly, or even Ricky Nelson or Gene Vincent. This is partially attributable to his very brief lifespan as a star: he only had a couple of big hits before dying in a car crash during a British tour in 1960. He was in the same league as the best rockabilly stars, though, with a brash, fat guitar sound that helped lay the groundwork for the power chord. He was also a good songwriter and singer, celebrating the joys of teenage life -- the parties, the music, the adolescent rebellion -- with an economic wit that bore some similarities to Chuck Berry. Cochran was more lighthearted and less ironic than Berry, though, and if his work was less consistent and not as penetrating, it was almost always exuberant. Cochran's mid-'50s beginnings in the record industry are a bit confusing. His family had moved to Southern California around 1950, and in 1955 he made his first recordings as half of ...
I seem to have been having a Chuck Berry moment that's lasted about 3 weeks though Eddie Cochran is trying to take over at times.
"Like most of the true greats—James Brown, Bo Diddley, Eddie Cochran, Slade, Gary Glitter—Chuck Berry really only ever wrote one song...
Listening to Sirius XM with Chuck Berry singing "Sweet Little Sixteen" followed by Eddie Cochran singing "Come on, Everybody"
Wow, last nite was rock and roll nite on TCM! First they show "Rock Around the Clock" which of course as a good r'n'r fan I have already seen, but it was still fun to see Bill Haley and the incredible Tony Williams of Platters' fame. What a voice! And of course Mr. Moondog Matinee was along for the ride. Next they show "Go Johnny Go" with the still amazing Chuck Berry, jangling those chords and being a pretty fine actor to boot. Jackie Wilson was incredible, as the singing and whirling human dervish, as was Ritchie Valens in his only screen performance. He actually looked a lot like that kid who became famous recently on the internet for posting the video about being suicidal about *** bullying. The show also had the Cadilllacs, and Harvey Fuqua, of the Moonglows and the Flamingos. Lastly, Eddie Cochran sang "Teenage Heaven" and need I say more. Finally, they ended with a film I'd never seen..."Jamboree" from 1957. Lawdy Miss Clawdy...and no, Richard Penniman was not there, but this was made up for by hav ...

Eventually, just the way I discovered Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Willie Dixon, through the Rolling Stones, I did the same with anyone The Who were covering. That led me to Eddie in late 1967. Hunting down his albums in New York back then was almost impossible.
Listening to Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry et al while watching the football. Prettayyy prettayyy pretty good.
Somethin' Else: The Fine Lookin' Hits of Eddie Cochran (Audio CD): Chuck Berry may have written the lyrical book...
