Just rolled in from a few days in St Louis. Had dinner with my two oldest kids Monday and Tuesday nights. Zoo and museum but the best part for me was visiting Vintage Vinyl down the street from BlueBerry Hill where Chuck Berry Still plays. I picked up five LPS: Hope - Klaatu. Deface The Music - Utopia. Year Of The Cat - AL Stewart. Best Of Split Enz - Split Enz Watch - Manfred Manns Earth Band. There was tons of stuff to look and go through but I didn't want my son and his friend to get too board. Luckily there was a comic book store close by. It was raining with hail the size of quarters as we made our way to the shops.
Today is the birthday of two of my heroes. Johnny Cash and Fats Domino. Antoine Domino was born in New Orleans. He still lives there. Antoine is known as "Fats". Fats Domino became a star in the 1950's ,along with Chuck Berry, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard, he was a a rock and roll pioneer! Fats, for me , epitomized rockin' blues New Orleans music..man, I loved his rolling piano style and tried to copy it on my Fender Telecaster guitar. I still play "My Girl Josephine".. Fats was one of the first to be inducted in to the rock and roll hall of fame...I still say the rock and roll hall of fame is the only award show worth watching...back to Fats.. Fats Domino songs are classics. "I'm Walking", "BlueBerry Hill" and "Blue Monday" are just a few...Fats can lay down a groove a mile wide...big enough for everyone to jump on! In the 1980's ,Fat's quit leaving The Big Easy...he said he could work all he wanted at home...he also said, he could not get good food anywhere else... Fats lived in the Ninth .. ...

Thanks to those of you who have already sent greetings in the first technical half hour past the mile marker of my 62nd turn around the sun. So here is the birthday plan: Going to work like usual on a Wednesday. I will, however, miss my usual Stone Spiral open mic, which has showcased some awesome music and wordsmithing in recent weeks. Instead, I have tickets to hear Chuck Berry on his monthly appearance at BlueBerry Hill. My son Nick has offered to buy me dinner there before the show. Chuck Berry at BlueBerry Hills is of those things I have been meaning to do for a very long time and now am going on my birthday.

During its first cross-country tour, in 1991, Black Dog was four songs into its set in a St. Louis joint called BlueBerry Hill when a guitar player named Chuck Berry walked in. A great Chuck Berry tune from the past by Jerry Lee. Chuck Berry turned 86 a couple of days ago and played the Duck room at BlueBerry Hill. Anybody the ol' days and Chuck Berry's farm out in Wentzville?
Highlight of the wknd OUTside the conference was our Sat. adventure with a friend of 3 of the girls in our group. She LIVES in St. Louis & is a professor at St. Louis University. A BALL OF FIRE - a grandmother who looks & acts about 30, told giddy amazing stories about her travels ALL around the world, and took us to an area of St. Louis called the Loop - being restored w/ a retro 50's look. Had lunch @ "BlueBerry Hill" - a restaurant owned by Chuck Berry - and browsed the lil' shops. Where else could I have found bookmarks made of 75% RECYCLED ELEPHANT DUNG?!?
by my old house is Chuck Berry's blueBerry Hill, an STL staple. It has memorabilia and its "on the drag", but the food is okay

BlueBerry Hill's Duck Room in St. Louis (home of Chuck Berry: "Found my thrill on.) May 8, 2012
Today our adventures took us to the Delmar Loop area of St. Louis. They have a walk of stars (folks from St. Louis) like: John Goodman, Betty Grable, Harry Caray, Chuck Berry, Nelly and a lot more. Cool stores and head shops, and nice restaurants. They even have a streetcar like my Grandpa used to run. We ate at BlueBerry Hill and were suprised when Chuck Berry sat at the booth behind us. Very cool day here in the LOU.
Thanks so much for the many birthday wishes sent to me today. As some of you know, I am the accompanist for the Good News Quartet from Manchester United Methodist Church here in the St. Louis area. Today the quartet traveled 170 miles each way to Osage Beach, Missouri. At lunchtime, we sang for my predecessor accompanist for the quartet, Dorothea Bante, and her fellow residents at their nursing home there. She celebrates her 93rd birthday tomorrow. Among my gifts was a ticket to see Chuck Berry in concert at BlueBerry Hill in St. Louis in August.
Oh my! Stritch at Disney Hall; Liza, BB King, and Smokey Robinson at the Hollywood Bowl; Chuck Berry at BlueBerry Hill; and Joan Rivers in Vegas. Too many legends on tour at the same time! Please, none of you die until I can get to you!
the great Roy Orbison was Oobie Doobie. Chuck Berry - Johnnie B. Goode. Fats Domino - BlueBerry Hill. Ah the fifties.

Hound Dog - Elvis Presley 2. Long Tall Sally - Little Richard 3. Blue Suede Shoes - Carl Perkins / Elvis Presley 4. Don't Be Cruel - Elvis Presley 5. Be-Bop-A-Lula - Gene Vincent & the Bluecaps 6. Roll Over Beethoven - Chuck Berry 7. In The Still Of The Nite - Five Satins 8. BlueBerry Hill - Fats Domino 9. Please, Please, Please - James Brown & the Famous Flames 10. I Walk The Line - Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Two
What a day yesterday. Coffee at Blondies, hangin out at Chuck Berry's BlueBerry Hill, lunch at Gioi's Deli on The Hill (Italian community) having some drinks at Rigazzi's outside and watching a 69 SS 396 burn out in the street do 90+ in front of us, while an angry patron goes into the street and throws his chair at the car and says to the owner, if I would have been carrying today, I'd have blown his head off. Apparently the neighborhood has some hot heads, then my first pro hockey game, dinner at a Mexican resturant, bowling at a 9 lane bowling alley, finishing out with eating hot dogs from a vender on the street. Wow, all that and home by 3 a.m.. How do we top that today?
