The Chrysler New Yorker was a premium automobile model by the Chrysler Corporation from 1946–1996, serving for several years as the brand's flagship model.
Writer Matthew Algeo wrote a book about President Harry Truman touring the country in a 1953 Chrysler New Yorker after retiring from office. He didn't know what happened to the car, until it found him - Ed.
Just watching 'Worlds greatest motorcycle journeys' on Travel channel. We did part of it in a car (Chrysler New Yorker) in 1995. Great journey. RIDING US HIGHWAY 1 One of the most famous coastal rides in the world US Highway 1 hugs the west coast from San Francisco to Laguna Beach. Its 650 miles length is steeped in American history and iconism but many tourists only scratch the surface of this sublime journey. There is adventure and luxury to experience in equal measures and the only way to feel the true sense of freedom and escapism is to ride it not drive it. If there is one route that delivers riding the American dream in one easy week long accessible package it has to be Highway 1.

They are a real nice car. I had one it stoped running a 300.000 I wish I could fined one. they road nice & got good gas miles.
Anytime I hear America's "Ventura Highway", it hits a soft spot. Namely, the first vivid memory I ever had of my childhood. My dad was driving his big, 1981 Chrysler New Yorker- Green on Green/Woodgrain. He was driving, and in Air Force uniform, and talking with mom, who was in the passenger seat... though I could only see her 'fro since she was a short lady and I was sitting directly behind her. I don't know where we were coming from or going, (dad seems to think we were heading from Wright-Patterson up to Youngstown; something to do with his retirement, but was a bit in disbelief I remember something that far back) but I recall that moment, and that song was on the radio. I just wouldn't actually learn the *name* of it until decades later. :/
My dad's car has a monster engine and he does not even know! lol. Ten years ago my dad and my uncle and I, went to buy cars in Toronto and they took me along. Of course I'm a hot rod nut. Anyway to cut a long story short, my dad bought a Chrysler New Yorker for about 7 grand and my uncle bought a Buick Park Avenue with a 3800 supercharged V6 for about 10 grand. Through a sequence of events my dad owns it now and I get to drive it when I visit. But I remember getting all excited in the back seat when we took it for the first test drive, and I told him, uncle, you have to buy this car! Now I've heard one can stuff a supercharged V6 with 3800 cc, into a Cavalier like I own. Each time I hit the gas on the Buick by the way, instant squealing of the tires and neck snapping acceleration. Leaves a lot of people surprised at the pickup of such a land yacht. lol.
Headlights. 1st car was a 66 Chrysler New Yorker!

1976 Chrysler New Yorker. The Chrysler New Yorker was a classic premium car model by Chrysler from 1940–1996, serving for several years as the brand's flagship model.
Now this is like it. This 1960 Chrysler New Yorker sedan is one of my personal favourites among that year's Chrysler products and among Virgil Exner's design. It was the culmination of Exner's genius with its graceful flowing lines and general lack of adornment compared to many cars of this period, save for the rear quarter louvres that signified it as a New Yorker. The 413 V8 motor and Torqueflite automatic, a formidable combination and indestructible to boot, had less weight to pull around with unitary construction and better handling than its competitors. The colour here is Iris Iridescent, i.e. metallic purple. Chrysler brand sales increased in 1960, but that was helped by cannibalisation taking place in Chrysler's own market. If not market leaders, Chrysler could be seen as industry leaders in many respects.
Don't make them like they used to. 56 Chrysler New Yorker.

In last night’s dream I was me, but I looked like Harvey Weinstein, the film producer. So I’m at the Toronto International Film Festival, with a film I’m producing. The film crew is with me, they are going inside the building where the screenings take place, I’m just parking my car. (When I lived in Toronto I used to have a 1985 Chrysler New Yorker, that’s the car I had in the dream.) It is cold, it has snowed earlier, which is weird, as the film festival takes place in September. I park the car and I’m trying to take some of my stuff with me, my laptop, some notes and my coat, but some guy stands in the way and I cannot open the car door. I ask him to move a little. He makes a face at me and ignores me. So I ask him more clearly and politely to please move so I can get stuff out of the car. He gives me a fake smile and moves. I keep my eye on him while I’m getting my stuff and I see that he whispers something into a cop’s ear and points at me. The cop now has an evil grin on his face and ...

I feel a rant...on the subject of Minimum Wage/Living Wages and an Idea for Progressing Our Nation... There are many other contributing factors to why making ends meet is so challenging today, that also need to be addressed...Things that corporations and industries are not taking into consideration when deciding that paying someone minimum wage is adequate. When I was growing up, people would talk about the 'rate of inflation'. And how the FED regulates financial markets to control this ficticious fragment of monetary mystery. See, it appeared far simpler when the comparison of annual wage increases should reflect this annual inflation rate. In a perfect world. But how does one measure the 'true' rate of inflation as it is defined and measured by someone who has to live on minimum wage vs. someone who has wealth? Fact is, the annual raw functioning costs to sustain survivability for someone who has money is far less in proportional comparison to someone who is surviving and barely existing on a mini ...

Derby the civic or build a 4cyl car out of it to race at 34,... opinions?
The car that would save Chrysler bowed with appropriate fanfare for 1981 as the Dodge Aries and Plymouth Reliant “K-car” compacts. Both offered transverse four-cylinder power, front-wheel drive, and room for four passengers in coupes, sedans, and five-door wagons, priced from around $6000.

Cadillac is fun. Let's see, there's 9 trim levels on the ATS total. 2.5L Standard and Luxury; 2.0L turbo standard, luxury, performance and premium; 3.6L luxury, performance and premium. Trying to simplify them. maybe just saying the premium gets all the electronic nannies and magnetic ride control will work.
Want this '57 Chrysler New Yorker w/all my heart & a big *** heated garage to put it in. I just do. :)
If you know me you know i am Big car person. Also i am big Mopar and Hemi fan. I also have heard people say the first car to 1hp to one cubic inch was a shave. Nope it was a Mopar. The 1957 Chrysler New Yorker carried the first Detroit-built V-8 engine to achieve 1 horsepower per cubic inch. Also Mopar havet he fuel injection, the first car to 200 mph in a nascar.

VIP Ally A.- Pappo's Homage- I want to remind you of all the good things that my uncles, on my Mother's side, did for others. Uncle Ralphie & Uncle Danny, haven't been mentioned very often since they passed on. They helped & touched many people, Danny did all the talking while Ralphie stared at all the women. I think Zimmie now owns their old Plymouth but I have their Chrysler New Yorker. They were good & kind hearted uncles. I can truly say I miss them. My question is this Peeps: Does anyone else remember Ralphie & Danny? I sure hope so.
AND THEN IT IS WINTER You know. . . time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams. But, here it is... the winter of my life and it catches me by surprise...How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go? I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like. But, here it is...my friends are retired and getting grey...they move slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me...but, I see the great change... Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant...but, like m ...

Chrysler is refusing to recall its Jeep Grand Cherokee (model years 1993 to 2004) and Jeep Liberty (2002 to 2007) as ordered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Chrysler says it won't recall the 2.7 million vehicles because the gas tank under question is safe. It's the first time in more than a decade that a car dealer has challenged a federal request for a recall.

I have loved the body style of this 1964 Plymouth Fury for a long time. Brings back some memories of my first car too. My first car was a 1964 Chrysler New Yorker two door hard top. Like this Plymouth, it also had the push button automatic transmisson.
Today has started out great. We decreased vehicles in the drive way by one camper. If we can get our Boston whaler launched and docked in the marina that would decrease by one more. Then just a camper, truck and 2 cars which would be great.

Something you may or may not know: When his eight years as President Of The United States ended January 20, 1953, private citizen Harry Truman took the train home to Independence, Missouri, mingling with other passengers along the way. He had no Secret Service protection. His only income was an Army pension. Later that year Mr. Truman bought a Chrysler New Yorker and got behind the wheel, he and Bess drove to Washington, New York and back home again by themselves. A feat no other President had done before or since. Harry S. Truman is one of my "HEROS"

The last generation of its breed--the BIG, American luxury car Imperial and its variants. The final full-size Imperials, 1974 & 75, while technically not of the "fuselage" period, have more in common with their 1969-1973 predecessors than with anything that came after them. The New Yorker that succeeded it from 1976 to 1978 is, in essence, an Imperial at its heart.
Do you ever have that dream where you go back in time and are handed the keys to a brand new 1984 Chrysler New Yorker (with rich Corinthian leather) by Ricardo Montalban himself? Yeah...me neither.

On June 19, 1953, Harry Truman got up early, packed the trunk of his Chrysler New Yorker, and did something no other former president has done before or since: he hit the road. No Secret Service protection. No traveling press. Just Harry and his childhood sweetheart Bess, off to visit old friends...
Age I was given: 19 by Majo Yu I lived: in Thousand Oaks, CA (vacationing in insanity) I drove: a Chrysler New Yorker (The stealth Chrysler) I did: Personal Assistant for a real estate broker. AKA-paper slave. My heart belonged to: Noah Nguyen/Liberty Tamesman (same dude) Age now: Thay would be telling... (old) I live: In my head (Simi Valley, CA) I drive: a Saturn SL2 (one eyed decepticon) I do: babysitting grown men while they baby sit a corporate building/scare crow My heart belongs to: That would be telling... ;P Hit like if you want an age. :)
After checking the news this AM re the closing of the LIE I went back to 1978 the last time that happened. I left Lindas apt in Queens and headed for Lk. Ronkonkoma and drove through hundreds of stuck cars on it. To this day I have no idea how I made it seeing as I was driving a 1969 Chrysler New Yorker with snow tires that had about 120,000 miles on it.
Ok the number I was given was 17... Then: I lived in Saxon, WV I drove my moms "pimp mobile" (Chrysler New Yorker). I went to Liberty High School My boyfriend was ... brain fart... I'll come back to this one . And I feared small, dark spaces!!! Lol Now: I am 32 I live in Oak Hill, WV I drive a Dodge Caliber I work at Lowe's My boyfriend is the most wonderful guy ever, Adam Mcvey And I'm still afraid of small dark spaces. Like this and I will give u a number.
Rambling in my mind. My Muse just kicked me in the butt. Rambling. That is what I want to do before I die. I want to ramble from Maine to California, using the old 2 lane roads that WERE the highways up into the 60s. I want to travel slowly, so that I can really feel/experience my journey. I want to travel in a late 50s Cadillac, or a 63 Chrysler New Yorker (push button transmission!). Pass me by, Brother. My time trip will be done under the speed limit. To heck with Jack Kirowak (spelled wrong). By taking these 2 lane roads, I would get to see the corny old tourist attractions of yesteryear. Most would be closed, but just the signs and corny buildings of these defunct gems would be a gas. I would see tiny communities, virtually ghost towns. Each passing of an elderly citizen draws the town closer to its end. I would hug the East Coast through New England, seeing if I can see through Stephen King's eyes. The New Jersey pine barrens! Maybe see the New Jersey Devil! I would head west , and ...

There was a car here in america that said "Don't forget your keys" when you shut the car off, it was a 1985 Chrysler New Yorker
TRUE STORY - Lately (and I mean for like the past few weeks) I've been having reoccurring dreams about driving a vehicle without brakes. It got me thinking about the times I've been in these situations in real life. Especially driving heavy equipment like forklifts (which always seem to have crappy brakes). So in short, the subject has been weighing abnormally heavy on my mind. SO THEN yesterday I'm driving around in my car (a talking 1987 Chrysler New Yorker) and suddenly the brakes get extremely mushy and the *** light" for the brakes comes on. Lo and behold I'm low on brake fluid. Dammit. COINCIDENCE? What do you think?
Got a 1995 Chrysler New Yorker its not to bad little issues I gotta deal with.

And I thought it was just because my Step Brother in Little Rock committed suicide in his Chrysler New Yorker with a 12 guage, living at Austons house, after I went to visit Step Uncle Bill in Texas. Maybe Crazy Horse was a little on, when a few of our survivng generations named themselves after cities instead of Pilgrim Presidents. But we see where folks go with that. Poor Charlotte.
Any of my AZ friends willing to trip out to Wittman to grab a hood for my '56 Chrysler New Yorker? I'm going to be down in Jan and I can get it then.any takers? Josh Jameson or Melissa Van Hook? Know anyone?
Okay here's the deal (for Billie who will remember this and my father). This story is probably only funny if told orally because it takes a lot of flailing of the arms and sound making, but I will attempt to set it to written word. Trust---the reliance on the character, ability, strength or truth of someone. When I was young, my father bought a beautiful new car. It was a Chrysler New Yorker with leather seats. The man was clearly in love with this automobile. I was delighted when he gave me the use of it. Billie, myself and two other friends were riding in style. We were returning from Laurel in the car up highway 15 North when we approached a make shift bridge because repairs were being made to the old bridge. It had been raining a bit and the roads were quite slippery. My three dear friends and I were talking nonstop (are you surprised?), and as I made my way onto the temporary bridge, I somehow misjudged and had to apply my brakes in order to slow and pull onto the bridge properly. I remember going to see "My Best Friend's Wedding" in high school. It was the 1st movie that ever made me cry, and everyone laughed at me. Picture this: I get into my Chrysler New Yorker with blue velvet interior, grab the steering wheel and begin to sob saying over and over " she loved him so much and he didn't want her". I am currently searching for this movie, which has conveniently disappeared from my dvd tower, and lmao at the visual memory I have of that moment in time in good ole Poway,CA!

My grandmother has often told me stories of how she would sometimes see Ernest Hemingway driving in his 1955 Chrysler New Yorker around Havana. Her godson is the director of the car museum in Havana and once told me of how he knew the man that had Hemingway's Chrysler sitting unrestored in a garage in Havana. Since its discovery was made public last year the car will be going through a restoration. Now THAT'S a car I would love to own!
Chrysler New Yorker town and country I painted for Adamco Motorsports. Almost assembled and done.
How come every time I sell something on craigslist I feel like I'm in the middle of a drug deal? "Meet me in Merchant's Walk Plaza around 4ish. I'll be in the black Chrysler New Yorker. Oh, you're in a green Ford truck. I think I see you." Get out, lookin' around all sketchy. Dude gets out, lookin' around all sketchy. "You got that dough?" "Yeah I got that dough, you got that product?" "Yeah, I got that product" Dude counts money while lookin' around the whole time. The exchange takes place. We both speed off like it never happened. Never fails, happens every single time.
I used to have a 1951 F-1 pick up, at one time. The flat heat V8 had to have too much machine work done on it so I was going to put a 44o in it from a 1968 Chrysler New Yorker, had the rear end changed for one that came out of a Dodge Super Bee.
Classic pr Muscle car search still on. I looked at a 1965 Ford galaxie Convertible today. Looked very similiar to the one my dad (and then me) had but it was a 1967. Cool car but a lot wrong with it.
