"He's never stopped chasing the dream." Colabello was called up to the Twins late Tuesday night.
Congrats to Chris Colabello on making his MLB debut with Twins today! He was playing in the Independent Leagues with Worcester less than 2 years ago! Another amazing underdog story!
In this moment of dour Minnesota Twins news, here's to Chris Colabello. He wasn't drafted out of college. Never got to play Rookie League or Class A. No, he played Independent League ball. For seven years. The Twins noticed him a couple of years ago and he got a shot at AA. All he's done is hit the cover off the ball all his life, so he made it to AAA this spring. And today, at age 29, Colabello got the call. He's going to the majors. I'd say attakid, but he's not that much younger than me, so hit a homer in your next game and maybe I won't feel so old.

Twins game at 11 a.m. - hope those Braves fans are too hung over to drone on and on with that tomahawk chant. Man, I hate that.
Here come the cavalary... Well... Not that dramatic but the Twins are making some moves and a horse or two is on the way. Last night... Perkins gave up a two out pinch hit home run to Evan Gattis to send the game to extras and the Twins lost in 10 innings after being one out away from a win. That happens... Closers don't close them all. Today's story isn't about the game. It's about Sam Deduno and Chris Colabello. Both these players are being called up and hopefully they can provide a spark... A much needed spark. Sam Deduno is a 29 year old career minor league pitcher with electric stuff and control problems. He pitched fairly well for the Twins last season and pitched extremely well in the WBC for the Domincian Republic. Sam was the starting pitcher who shut down the loaded Team USA team with Joe Mauer and Adam Jones. He was also the starting pitcher in the championship game that was won by the Dominican Republic. He pitched very very well in both of those games. Deduno has stuff that moves. His fastbal ...

Great story on Chris Colabello and Team Italy at the WBC - as if you needed another reason to root for
WBC backstory: Chris Colabello credits Alex Maestri's father with saving his life. Now they are starring for Italy.
PHOENIX -- All the humiliation and disbelief of a stunning loss to Italy four years ago was bad enough. It was unfathomable for Canada that history would repeat itself at the World Baseball Classic. But history didn't just turn on Canada -- it crushed a team that now needs two unlikely wins and a mathematical miracle to reach the second round. Chris Colabello hit a three-run homer as Italy beat Canada 14-4 in a game that was ended by the mercy rule in the eighth inning Friday after not one, but two walk-off victories. The first came on what appeared to be a grand slam by Mike Costanzo. Italy, which swarmed the field to celebrate, was forced back to the dugout after replay showed the hit was a ground-rule double that scored only two runners. But one batter later, Mario Chiarini's single scored the run that put Italy ahead by the 10-run limit and sent Canada slumping to the locker-room. "Obviously we weren't happy coming into the clubhouse," said outfielder Michael Saunders. "Baseball's a grind, man. Baseba ...
What is going on? Canada's got heavy hitters like former NL MVP Joey Votto (Cincinnati) and former AL MVP Justin Morneau (Minnesota) in their line-up and they lose 14-4 to Italy! ITALY?!?!? The big hitters for Italy were Chris Colabello (who?), a rookie trying to catch on with Minnesota, and Mario Chiarini (again, WHO??), a guy who couldn't even catch on with anyone when he gave North American baseball a shot way back in 2000. He went back and spent his career in Italy.
Chris Colabello's three-run homer highlighted a four-run third, and the Italians never looked back against the Canadians, moving to 2-0 in Pool D. Colabello had three other hits for Team Italy, which.
