Honoring Working Mothers June 10, 2013 4:27 PM By Ana Duarte-Mccarthy, Chief Diversity Officer, Citi I was honored to join President and Mrs. Obama and members of the Council on Women and Girls to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Equal Pay Day at the White House. I shared the stage with so many impressive women, some of whom have who have worked tirelessly to strike that ever-so-delicate balance between work and family life, while others have dedicated their time and efforts to helping achieve critical milestones for women, notably equal pay. Many of the women in attendance represented companies named by Working Mother Magazine as the Top 100 Best Companies for Working Moms in 2013. I am fortunate to work for a company like Citi, which I'm proud to say made Working Mother's Top 100 list for the 23rd time this year. I can say first-hand how tough it can be as a working mom - actively raising a family, pursuing career goals, volunteering in the community - and at times having to make necessary sacrifices f ...

6 WAYS TO FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR JOB ALL OVER AGAIN “The reality is you don’t have to love it. You have to fall in love with the idea of working at it.” Here’s how: 1. Take a step back. Years ago, while running a business for engineering and electronics conglomerate Siemens, Denice Kronau burned out. She blames a mix of ugly travel--flying to India for a four hour meeting, then flying straight back--and perfectionism: “I could play with PowerPoint up until the moment we would beam it up on the wall,” she says. She planned to quit, but was convinced instead to take an unpaid six month sabbatical (which, by the way, is a great management tool). That gave her time to ponder her life. If a sabbatical’s not in the cards, use some of your vacation or personal days. In a pinch, even a Saturday morning at a coffee shop can work. Claw yourself time to think. 2. Envision happiness. When were you last happy at work? What would you love to be doing with your time and your life? If the answer looks absol ...

Has Maryland University Discriminated Against Its Native American Indian Students? February 9, 2014 By Jay Winter Nightwolf On Thursday, February 6th, I was informed by a Mrs. Dottie Chicquelo, the Assistant Director in the Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Education at the University of Maryland that the 7th annual Native American Indian/Alaska Native Symposium and Student Poster Competition is cancelled. Based on the collaborative efforts with Native American elders, American Indian Veterans, WPFW Radio Native American Indian personality Jay Winter Nightwolf, The Maryland Commission on Indian Affairs, The Baltimore Indian Center, The Rocking Horse Road Center of Montgomery County, Maryland, Mrs. Chicquelo and the American Indian Student Union (UMD), the hard work that was put forth and the many hours of planning and coordinating this event was abruptly cancelled without any justifiable explanation. NONE OF INTEGRITY, MORALS OR AMERICAN IDEALS- ALL AGAINST THE CONSTITUTION- GREAT JOB SHEEPLE " Cass Sunstein was nominated and approved to be Obama’s “Regulatory Czar.” He supports massive gun control and doesn’t believe the 2nd Amendment is an individual right. He has straight out said, “We ought to ban hunting.” While this fruitcake strips Americans of their Constitutional right to own guns, he wants to give rights to animals and has argued that “Animals should be permitted to bring suit…” Naturally, he also supports the “Fairness Doctrine,” the wrongly-named concept which allows the government to regulate the airwaves. 2-Climate Czar – Todd Stern Stern, a veteran of the Clinton administration, was the U.S. negotiator at the Kyoto conference in 1997 (which called for dramatic climate change regulations based on bogus assumptions.) Black History Moment: TVOne's Upcoming Trumpet Awards A number of well-deserved African Americans were honored at this year's Trumpet Awards for their accomplishments. While there were a number of entertainers and civil rights leaders in the venue, Steve Pemberton personal story was the one that captivated the audience. Stephanie Mills serenaded Pemberton with her signature song - Home- which is all he was looking for during his his years in the foster care system. Pemberton is the first African American to serve as a Chief Diversity Officer for Walgreens. From the age of 3 until the time he turned 18, Pemberton was raised in the foster care system where he was beaten, burned and forced to scrounge through garbage for food . Mr. Pemberton finally talked about the abuse to a counselor when he was a high school junior. Until then, he worried that his foster parents would harm him if he talked. What a story of inspiration! His book tells the story of breaking away from the abusive foster family, gaining acce ...

BOBBA SAY: According to Hillary Clinton’s long-delayed Benghazigate testimony, the State Department just did not have enough money to provide security for a mission in one of the most dangerous places in the world. It did however have 16 million dollars to spend on 2,500 kindle book readers at the drastically inflated price of $6,600 per device. And here is what else Hillary’s State Department did have money for… 7.9 billion dollars for Obama’s Global Health Initiative. 469 million for global climate change. 2.2 billion to strengthen democratic institutions in Pakistan. And of course… Mosque renovations. REALY MOSQUE RENOVATIONS! And $4.5 million for Art in Embassies The State Department also has a Chief Diversity Officer, whose job it is to warn that “holding the fort” is a racist phrase. As far as security goes, 200 million dollars were wasted on Iraqi police training that never went anywhere. And nothing says State Department waste, like waste management. Bobba jussayin...

Be Purposeful in Your Training Animals, salads, orchestras, houses - what do all of these items have in common? During the last 20 years, all have been used to describe or build relationships during diversity and inclusion training. But there has been an evolution in D&I training in strategy, execution and content. The practice has grown from race relations sensitivity training to more cutting-edge areas exploring the intersections between diversity and emotional intelligence. However, even though the topic and the presentation methodology have advanced, reactions to diversity and inclusion training still vary between participants and among industries. Some participants react poorly and question, ''Why me? What did I do wrong?'' when they receive session sign-up sheets. Others know and understand the definitions and the business connections. ''If people understand the connection to the bottom line, they are anxious to learn how,'' said Deborah Ashton, Vice President and chief diversity officer at Novant H ...

One of the questions on the Maryland ballot is Question 6 concerning *** marriage. Those opposed are running a commercial which says that the law is supposed to protect those who are opposed but features Angela McCaskill, Chief Diversity Officer for Gaulludet University who was fired after signing a petition opposing *** marriage. The implication is, that those who oppose *** marriage will somehow be discriminated against if Question 6 is approved. First of all, this is a state law in the State of Maryland. Gaulludet is in Washington, DC so the law in Maryland has no effect whatsoever on Angela McCaskill's termination or Gaulludet University in general. This just shows the lows that some groups will go to in order to influence the vote.

She refused to acknowledge that it is possible that Angela is not well-versed in Diversity & Inclusion (I mean, she thanked Tony Perkins of Family Research Council, of all people!). I think we all knew why she became the Chief Diversity Officer in t ...

I support Angela McCaskill in her right to exercise her freedom of religion, her freedom of expression, and her freedom to petition the government. You may disagree with her signing the petition against the same-sex marriage in MD. But that is still within her right even when she is employed at Gallaudet University as the Chief Diversity Officer. For these are her CONSTITUTIONAL rights to do so and no person or institution OR JOB may trumps the constitution. Those of you who object to her are free to object but as you fight for the rights, you must not tear down other's rights even if you disagree with these other. Copy and paste if you agree.

Hi , Any plans to create a Chief Hurt Feelings Officer? Sort of like the Chief Diversity Officer .
Last month, the Chief Diversity Officer at the U.S. Department of State announced that phrases like “holding down the fort” and “rule of thumb” could be racially driven expressions. Now, the political correctness police have added another offender to the list: peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Since we have a Chief Diversity Officer at the State Dept, I feel that the creation of a Chief Officer of Hurt Feelings isn't far behind.
names David Fryson new chief diversity officer:
"Racism is not something to be taken lightly. That’s why it’s so upsetting to see the recent efforts by some to gain a political advantage by crying racism where there isn’t any. For instance, to press his outdated stereotype that Republicans are racists, Chris Matthews has called everything from birther jokes to defending welfare reform “racist.” His latest stretch is that criticizing Obama for “Chicago-style political tactics” is somehow racist. I guess because it reminds people of famous African-American Chicago political bosses, like Richard Dailey. But if you want to know just how racist you really are, consult an expert: John Robinson, the State Department’s Chief Diversity Officer. He gave Slate magazine a rundown of some phrases we should avoid because they might offend someone. Like “rule of thumb” – that once meant the width of a stick a man could beat his wife with – “going Dutch,” and “holding down the fort,” which might offend any Native Americans of the 19th c ...
