Charging Bull at Bowling Green Park From Wikipedia - 'Di Modica spent some $360,000 to create, cast, and install the sculpture following the 1987 stock market crash as a symbol of the "strength and power of the American people."[2] The sculpture was the artist's idea, not the city's. In an act of "guerrilla art", he trucked it to Lower Manhattan and on December 15, 1989, installed it beneath a 60-foot Christmas tree in the middle of Broad Street in front of the New York Stock Exchange as a Christmas gift to the people of New York. That day, crowds came to look at the bull, with hundreds stopping to admire and analyze the gift as Di Modica handed out copies of a flier about his artwork.[2] The police seized the sculpture and placed it into an impound lot. The ensuing public outcry led the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation to install it two blocks south of the Exchange in the plaza at Bowling Green. It faces up Broadway.[8]' ... and yes, why not take a shot of it's backside. It's lovely with ...
Barricades around the "Charging Bull" near Wall St. are gone for the first time in 2 1/2 years.
Occupy Wall Street: A Frenzy That Fizzled By ANDREW ROSS SORKIN* Occupy Wall Street protesters gathered on Monday, August 2011, near Zuccotti Park in Lower Manhattan. It will be an asterisk in the history books, if it gets a mention at all. A year ago this week, the Occupy Wall Street movement got under way in Zuccotti Park in Lower Manhattan. The loose group of protesters, frustrated by the economic downturn, sought to blame Wall Street and corporate America for many of the nation’s ills. While the movement’s first days did not receive much news coverage, it soon turned into a media frenzy, with some columnists comparing its importance to that of the Arab Spring, which led to the overthrow of leaders in several Middle Eastern and African countries, spurred by social media. Images of the Wall Street protesters getting arrested were looped on news channels and featured on the covers of newspapers. Big banks — and the famous Charging Bull statue that is an icon of Wall Street — were fortified with b ...

"Cops began arresting protesters just before 8 a.m. on Pine St., and arrests continued through the morning as protesters marched to Bowling Green park—the location of the iconic Charging Bull sculpture. The bull, which was under heavy police guard, has been off-limits to tourists since last year's Occupy protests." NBCnews *** talk about your one-shot metaphors)
The Day: "Charging Bull," the 7,000-pound bronze statue on Broadway in the financial district, has been a protective captive of the police since the Occupy protests began.
