in my opinion: robben deserved the ballon d'or.Best Player at the World Cup and led his team to champions league win the year before.
Great player of all time... Cristiano Ronaldo was the best footballer in the world in 2014. His third Ballon d’Or victory on Monday was 100 per cent deserved, and he now sits among a group of only five players to rack up such a hat-trick. But until he can place a World Cup or European Championship winner’s medal alongside his three golden trophies, he will never be spoken of in the realms of the greatest players in history, such as Diego Maradona and Pele. His incredible 2014 included a Champions League record goals haul, the surpassing of 200 Spanish league goals in record time and a new Portugal scoring milestone. He predictably collected the award which confirms him as the Best Player of the year. Another such 12 months in 2015, and he and Lionel Messi will stand together as the Ballon d’Or's two most successful players of all time. But what will that matter to future generations if neither Ronaldo nor Messi taste glory with their national teams? Both captain their countries, but both have only c ...
What was the crucial factor in the end? RT: A record 17 goals in the 2013-14 Champions League campaign, 61 goals in 60 appearances for club and country in the calendar year, breaking the La Liga hat-trick record, a rate of one goal every 62 minutes in La Liga, a Champions League title, a Copa Del Rey title, 21 club assists and a leader's role on the field as Real finally bagged the Decima. However, it's fair to say that Argentina failing to win the World Cup also played more of a part than Ronaldo did in Brazil in the Ballon d'Or outcome. FT: Ronaldo led Real Madrid to victory in the most important club tournament in the world, scoring plenty of goals and terrorising rival defences in the process. His influence in the very successful year that Los Blancos have enjoyed under Carlo Ancelotti is obvious, as is his increasing desire to become a leader for experienced teammates and upcoming youngsters. ML: The bottom line is Messi and Ronaldo are the leading "brands" in the game today, the finest outfield play ...
hanad moh 2015-01-12 21:22Madrid - Cristiano Ronaldo shut out Lionel Messi for the second straight year in the battle for the Ballon d'Or and he is showing no sign of giving up his grip as king of world football. The 29-year-old Portuguese forward has been at the heightof his powers again this year, terrorising opposing defences in the Champions League and Spain's La Liga.He is also hungry for more. Asked at the Ballon d'Or ceremony what his favourite goal had been, Ronaldo was only half-joking when he said:"For me the next goal is alwaysthe most important."Despite a patellar tendinosis problem in his left knee that contributed to an underwhelming World Cup, thePortugal captain was clearly a deserving winner of a third Ballon d'Or in a year in which he guided Real Madrid to their 10th Champions League title (but first in 12 years) and continued to rewrite the history books.Physical specimenThe preening side of Ronaldo will always exist. Ronaldo’s 54 goals, Messi’s 21 assists, Neuer’s 28 clean sheets – The Ballon d’Or trio's remarkable records Ballon d'Or 2014: LIVE! The 2014 Ballon d'Or will be decided in Zurich on Monday, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Manuel Neuer all battling for the top prize. Ronaldo, who is the current Ballon d'Or holder, scored 17 goals as Real Madrid won their 10th Champions League title, overcoming Atletico Madrid 4-1 after extra-time in the final in Lisbon. Messi meanwhile scored four times as Argentina reached the World Cup final, only to be defeated by Germany and a Mario Gotze goal in the Maracana in Brazil. Manuel Neuer was on the right side of that result, his stellar performances for Germany guiding his nation to their fourth World Cup crown. Other awards handed out at the ceremony include the Coach of the Year, where the three candidates are Real Madrid's Carlo Ancelotti, Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone, and Germany boss Joachim Low. The Goal of the Year award will also be decided, w ...

The SEVEN reasons why Lionel Messi could make £200MILLION Chelsea move: 1) There are suggestions the Argentine is unhappy with his pay packet at Barcelona. He signed a new contract in May that earns him £16m a year after tax - but his great rival Cristiano Ronaldo earns £19m a year at Real Madrid. This has apparently caused friction between Messi's camp and Barca. 2) Messi is the all-time top goalscorer in La Liga and the Champions League. But he wants to play in the Premier League and turning 28 in June he could feel the timing is perfect for a move to England. 3) Barca have slapped an astonishing £200m price tag on their star man. But according to sources close to the player, Adidas (Chelsea club sponsor and kit supplier) are ready to help fund the deal in order to steal Messi from their big rivals Nike (who sponsor Barca). 4) Cesc Fabregas left the Nou Camp for Chelsea this summer and is trying to persuade his close friend, his future lies at Stamford Bridge too. 5) Messi wants to live in London. confirm Gerrard's move: Liverpool have confirmed that Steven Gerrard is to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season. Gerrard, 34, has spent his entire career at Anfield, making his first-team debut in 1998, and has won trophies including the Champions League, UEFA Cup and two FA Cups. However, the midfielder, who retired from England duty following this summer's World Cup, has now decided to move on and is expected to seal a transfer to Major League Soccer.
Arsene Wenger believes Thierry Henry could struggle to adjust to retirement, having called time on his illustrious playing career on Monday. The former Arsenal striker won three Premier League titles with the Gunners, the Champions League with Barcelona and the 1998 World Cup with France. Click link to read full story..
Manchester United could now have a strong chance of signing Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman in January due to the Serie A club's early elimination from the Champions League, Old Trafford sources have told ESPN. Strootman's season only began last month following his return from a cruciate knee ligament injury sustained in March, and Roma's failure to progress from their group in Europe has led United to believe they have significant leverage to do an earlier deal for the 24-year-old. United's interest in the Netherlands international is long-standing and has only increased following the arrival of his former national coach, Louis Van Gaal, at the Premier League club in the summer. The knee injury Strootman picked up not only ruled him out of the World Cup but also prevented any immediate possibility of a transfer following Van Gaal's appointment, although it had been anticipated at Old Trafford that a deal would eventually take place at the end of the 2014-15 campaign. There had been extensive preliminary ...
Aston Villa v Man United: A Radamel Falcao start and more things to look out for Seven in a row? Not since the spring of 2011, when United had a realistic chance of emulating the 1999 treble immortals, have the Reds recorded seven victorious matches in succession. Back then, United juggled Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup commitments expertly until Yaya Toure grabbed City’s seminal FA Cup semi-final winner. Louis Van Gaal only has the Premier League to preside over until the 464-mile round-trip to Yeovil on January 4 and against an uninspiring and insipid Aston Villa side, United should be optimistic of recording another win. Will Vlaar impress? Amid speculation United could spend £30m on a player in the January transfer window, Van Gaal will reunite with his Dutch defensive stalwart Ron Vlaar on Saturday. Vlaar is out of contract in the summer and will not cost a third of £30m. Vlaar and Mats Hummels were arguably the best centre-backs at the World Cup, although the Brazil finals stand out ...

Luis Suarez talks Ballon d'Or ; ''No one knows what are the standards of the voting !, so shady'' ''if it is from January to December then the World Cup should be put into consideration, there are players who reached the final and others who left early.'' ''For me Messi should win it, what he did this year is fantastic, Leo returned from a long injury and then helped Barca to stay in La Liga clash of the last round and helped Argentina reach the final and scored all those goals plus breaking major records '' ''the UEFA Champions League all time top scorer records is unbelievable because Leo played less matches than the top 3 and he's only 27 ! other players claimed they would break it first'' ''There's Manuel Neuer ... a world cup champion and Cristiano, who scored a lot of goals, so there are open options but for me the best is Leo'' Well said bruh, well said (y)
Former Bayern Munich and Germany star Lotthar Matthaus is worried that Cristiano Ronaldo 's goal record will "outshine everything" when it comes to the race for the 2014 Ballon d'Or. Ronaldo, who won the prize for the second time in January of this year, set a new record for goals in the Champions League as he helped fire Real Madrid to European and Copa Del Rey glory last season. "Messi is only the underdog because he was injured too often and was not in his best shape at the World Cup. For me he was not so strong during the tournament. Fifa's experts voted him player of the tournament, but that was a gift. I think he shook his head himself when he got the trophy up there after the final."
Ronaldo is targeting consecutive crowns after winning in 2013. The Portuguese forward helped Real Madrid end their hunt for an elusive Decima – a 10th Champions League crown – starring as they thrashed Bayern Munich in the semi-finals before notching a late penalty against Atletico Madrid in the final. Neuer made a string of impressive displays en route to Germany lifting the World Cup.
Hard Tackle Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery believes either Manuel Neuer or Arjen Robben deserve to win the 2014 FIFA Ballon d'Or - but fears 'politics' could work against them. Bayern goalkeeper Neuer, widely regarded as the best number one in the world, helped Germany win the World Cup, while Holland forward Robben enjoyed an excellent campaign with club and country. Both men are on the 23-strong shortlist for the award, but Cristiano Ronaldo is the favourite to win for a second straight year after leading Real Madrid to Champions League success. Question Do you agree that the awarding of the Ballon d'Or is a question of "politics" rather than sporting achievements?
Francesco Totti breaks records with goal for Roma against CSKA in Champions League Francesco Totti broke his own record tonight as the oldest player to score in the Champions League with a goal for AS Roma in their game away to CSKA Moscow. The Italian veteran had already broken the record this season with a penalty against Manchester City but now an even older model of the World Cup winning attacker sits at the top of the charts. Not only that. Totti became the oldest player to ever score directly from a free-kick, his powerful drive breaking the deadlock. Expect the 38-year-old to score one or two more goals before the campaign is out.
After King Lionel Messi surpassed Raul to become the UEFA Champions League's record goalscorer, we examine the path taken by the Barcelona star. Argentina were World Cup holders back in 1987 and Diego Maradona was the planet's finest footballer but, in a poor part of the country's third-largest city, Rosario, something specially significant also took place: Lionel Andres Messi was born. The third son to Jorge - a steel worker - and Celia - a cleaner - young Lionel weighed in at just three kilograms and was a mere 47 centimetres in height. He grew into the greatest goalscorer in Champions League history - though it was anything but easy. Football was part of Leo's life from day one. Rosario Central were crowned champions of Argentina two weeks before Messi's birth, but little Lionel would inherit his father's passion for the city's other club: Newell's Old Boys. "When his mother sent him off to run errands, Leo always took his football with him," his brother Matias once said. "And if he didn't have one, he ...
Champions League, Europa League, La Liga, EPL, Bundesliga, Serie A is basically getting us through this year without the Euro or World Cup
Cristiano Ronaldo needs one goal to match the Champions League's all-time leading scorer when Real Madrid hosts Liverpool on Tuesday. At the rate the forward is sweeping in goals, Ronaldo has a good chance to match and even break Raul Gonzalez's mark of 71 goals in front of the same Santiago Bernabeu crowd that used to chant Raul's name. Madrid would qualify for the knockout rounds with a second straight win over Liverpool in Group B. Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Barcelona, Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund and FC Porto can also advance from the group phase this week, leaving two games to spare. Here are some things to know about round four of the Champions League group phase: –- RONALDO UNBOUND Ronaldo is doing his best to erase memories of Portugal's poor showing at this year's World Cup and boost his chances of winning a second consecutive Ballon d'Or. Ronaldo has scored in 12 straight appearances in all competitions for Madrid. His goal on Saturday, which sparked a 4-0 rout at Granada on Saturday, made him the ...
Zinedine Zidane: Real Madrid coach gets three-month coaching ban World Cup winner Zinedine Zidane has been suspended from coaching for three months for taking charge of a team without the right qualifications. The Spanish Football Federation has banned the former France midfielder for leading Real Madrid Castilla, the European champions' reserve side. Zidane's assistant Santiago Sanchez has also received a three-month ban. Real issued a statement declaring their "absolute disagreement" with the decision, which they intend to fight. The club said Zidane "has been authorised by the French Football Federation to work as a head coach in the category Real Madrid Castilla currently find themselves in". Real's statement concluded: "Real Madrid will pursue every available legal avenue so that this decision is overturned." Zidane was appointed reserve-team coach in the summer after working as assistant to Carlo Ancelotti last season, which ended with Real winning the Champions League. The former France midfielder ...
Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has rubbished suggestions that the Gunners will be better off without Mesut Ozil claiming Arsene Wenger should build his side around the German. Furthermore, Parlour expects Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to replace the injured World Cup winner in the Arsenal starting eleven. Ozil, 25, picked up a knee injury on international duty this week and will now miss 10-12 weeks of action which is a crucial blow for the North London club. The German hasn’t been in the best of form but his ability and whereabouts on the pitch always makes him a threat and Wenger will now have to find ways of replacing him. Arsene Wenger happy to see Kieran Gibbs in starting line-up Danny Welbeck was beginning to forge a good relationship with the Arsenal number 10 but it now seems that Santi Cazorla could operate behind the England forward. Parlour, who spent most of his playing days at Arsenal, believes Ozil will be a miss and admits people thinking he will benefit the club are completely wrong. Pa ...
Transfer talk »»» Arsenal have reportedly stepped up their interest in Schalke playmaker Julian Draxler after sending scouts to watch the Germany international recently. According to The Sunday People, The Gunners sent scouts to witness the 21-year-old in action during Schalke’s 1-1 Champions League draw against Maribor in midweek following long-term interest from Arsene Wenger. Draxler, who returned to action against the Slovenian side following suspension, nearly scored a late winner for his club on Tuesday but saw his close-range effort saved. The news comes after the midfielder admitted that he felt he wasn’t good enough to attract the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool following a difficult season with Schalke last term. Draxler – who has a £37million buy-out clause with the Bundesliga outfit – won the World Cup with his nation Germany in Brazil this summer
The difference between being a good player and being world class is his performance in Europe. That's where careers are made and hearts are broken. While Yaya Toure has held his own in the Premier League, the Champions League is a different ballgame. He was run ragged by a spirited Roma side and Francesco Totti showed why he'll always be one of the best Number 10's this stage has seen when he made an in form Vincent Kompany look pathetically ordinary with his Totti-esque first touch and scored at the age of 38, making him the oldest player to score a Champions League goal. Pellegrini also showed that he lacks the tactical astuteness this competition requires. Luiz showed that the World Cup was an accident, and nothing more when he displayed a near perfect performance under pressure to beat Barcelona. It's not enough for a player to feature in a biased Fantasy Premier League team every weekend (Kompany,Toure- I'm looking at you) to be considered great. It's only when he shines in Europe that he's deemed .. ...
Messi: Suarez will give us more variety The Argentine ace is looking forward to playing alongside the former Liverpool man and insists Barcelona are duty-bound to reach the Champions League final Sep 25, 2014 23:14:46 Barcelona star Lionel Messi says his side will become stronger and more difficult to predict when Luis Suarez returns from his ban. The Uruguay striker, who scored twice for the B team in a friendly this week, will not be able to make his competitive debut for the club until the weekend of October 25 due to his suspension following his World Cup bite. Barca dropped their first points of the new campaign against Malaga on Wednesday, drawing 0-0 and failing to register a shot on target in an uninspiring display, and Messi believes Suarez will bring a new dimension to their attacking play. "It's special that he chose to come here [from Liverpool]," he told Fox Sports Magazine. "We will be stronger as a team with him. We will have a lot more variety." Messi, who is one goal short of his 400th fo ...
Manchester United are looking into the possibility of bringing former centre-back Gerard Pique back to Old Trafford in January. The Spain international left the Red Devils to rejoin his boyhood club Barcelona in May 2008 for £5miilion, but according to the Express, United are hoping to lure him back to England for a second time. After being a regular for the La Liga giants in his 6 full seasons there, Pique is now less of a guarantee on new manager’s Luis Enrique’s team sheet, with Javier Mascherano and summer acquisition Jeremy Mathieu appearing to be the first-choice centre-back pairing this term. Signing a world-class defender is certainly United boss Louis Van Gaal’s priority when the transfer window re-opens in the New Year, and Pique would undoubtedly fit the bill. Since his return to the Nou Camp, the 27-year-old has picked up 4 La Liga titles and 2 Champions League trophies with the Catalan side, as well as 1 European Championships and 1 World Cup with Spain. Pique only signed a new 5-year ...

Borussia Dortmund v Arsenal - Preview. THE QUOTE "I have a great respect for Jurgen Klopp. He rose up very quickly in his career and he's brought some great impulses to Dortmund. What does he do better than me? I don't know - maybe a lot of things! I love to see his team play. They play a very attractive, dynamic type of football and I like it." - Arsène Wenger THE SET-UP There was a carefree atmosphere at Arsène Wenger's press conference in Dortmund on Monday evening. No wonder - in a country still enjoying the afterglow of World Cup glory, this was a chance for German journalists to talk to a German-speaking manager about a squad sprinkled with German stars. But behind the playfulness there was a clear message: Arsenal face the toughest of starts to this Champions League group stage. With due respect to Anderlecht and Galatasaray - and a potentially perilous group finale in Istanbul in December - Dortmund away is up there with the toughest assignments in European football. Simon: How it has changed since 2013 From two worldwide tours with Liverpool to Champions League qualification and a World Cup in Brazil, it has certainly been a frantic period for Simon Mignolet since he signed for the club. The Belgian was brought to Anfield in June 2013 and immediately installed as Brendan Rodgers' first-choice goalkeeper, beginning his Reds career with a crucial penalty save against Stoke City. His agility and shot-stopping skills were evident throughout a debut campaign that almost brought a Barclays Premier League title and did book a place in Europe's elite competition this season. There was no resting on laurels in the summer for the 26-year-old either, as he travelled to South America with his country and provided cover for their progression to the World Cup quarter-finals. So, now he is back at Melwood and the daily duties of competing in the Premier League are firmly in focus, how does the Mignolet of August 2014 compare to the man who signed 14 months ago? "Now I know what it ...
Eto’o, who on Tuesday signed a two year contract with English Premier League side Everton, played just one match — a 1-0 defeat to Mexico — in his fourth World Cup campaign (1998, 2002, 2010, 2014). Capped 116 times, he won two Africa Cup of Nations titles in 2000 and 2008, a competition in which he is the all-time leading scorer with 18 goals. He is also Cameroon’s record scorer with 55 goals. His biggest triumph with the national side was winning Olympic gold in Sydney in 2000. Despite his failure to inspire his team on the World Cup stage he won trophies with all his clubs including Champions League titles – two with Barcelona and one with Inter Milan. As well as his four African player of the year titles he was also the top scorer in La Liga en 2006.

rodriguez scores first goal Raul Garcia cancelled out James Rodriguez’s opener as Atletico Madrid scored a crucial away goal in the first leg of their Spanish Super Cup tie with local rivals Real Madrid. Colombian World Cup star Rodriguez scored on his competitive debut for the Champions League winners, only to see his strike cancelled out by Garcia’s late header – as Diego Simeone’s side take a strong result back to the Vicente Calderon.
Celtic: No Wakaso Mubarak deal ahead of Maribor tie The signing deadline passed without Celtic announcing the completion of a proposed loan deal for Ghana winger Wakaso Mubarak from Rubin Kazan. Celtic had agreed terms with the Russian top-flight club over a one-year deal for the 24-year-old. But Celtic manager Ronny Deila was not expecting Wakaso to play in Wednesday's Champions League tie against Maribor, the result of registration red tape. "It is going on, but it is hard to get the paperwork together," he said. "I am not 100% sure, but I think it is going to be hard to have him ready for the game with Maribor." Riding high on World Cup momentum and NBC's full TV coverage, Americans will be jumping on the English Premier League bandwagon in record numbers. Paul Crookston is here to help.  With the World Cup now a distant memory, it is time for soccer fans to drink from the nourishing fount of the English Premier League. Everyone wants to know what will happen in the league that transfixes the world. Will Manchester United bounce back? New manager Louis Van Gaal is bringing change, hopefully while keeping his clothes on. Is Arsenal a serious contender? Their attack looks incredible on paper. Will Chelsea’s revamped squad finally score against teams like Crystal Palace? Boy do I hope so. Let’s get straight to my top 4, because I know that’s all you’re looking for if you’ve somehow made it to my second paragraph. 1. Chelsea 2. Arsenal 3. Manchester City 4. Manchester United These teams will earn the coveted Champions League spots largely because of their depth. To win (and draw) enough games to come out o ...
Atletico Madrid have reportedly begun negotiations with Chelsea over the possible transfer of Andre Schurrle to the La Liga champions. This would be at least the third time that the two clubs have discussed transfers this summer, however this time the movement of players could be in the opposite direction. Atletico were impressed by Schurrle’s performances in the World Cup, and sense an opportunity as the player was by no means a regular starter for Jose Mourinho’s team last season. Eden Hazard will no doubt start the season as first choice winger this season, and it remains to be seen whether Schurrle will be able to oust Willian from the other flank, whilst also fending off Oscar and Mohamed Salah in the fierce competition for attacking players Chelsea has. It would make sense for Chelsea to sign a foreign player. Currently they have one more than the UEFA Champions League squad lists will allow, and it does not appear that Jose Mourinho has decided on a player that he would be happy to lose from hi ...
It was a game few at Liverpool wanted. Three days after seeing their Premier League dream squashed, Brendan Rodgers took his side to Dublin, to fulfil a friendly fixture against Shamrock Rovers. No rest for the wicked, or the weary. The Reds’ World Cup players were spared the trip, with Rodgers instead selecting a hybrid side, made up of fringe players and youngsters. And after watching his side saunter to a comfortable 4-0 victory at the Aviva, he will have left Ireland enthused at the amount of young talent emerging from the club’s Academy. Jordon Ibe stole the show, while Jack Dunn netted the Reds’ fourth goal, seconds into his first senior outing. The form of others – Brad Smith, Ryan McLaughlin, Joao Carlos Teixeira, Connor Randall – also caught the eye. It’s been a busy summer in the transfer market at Anfield, but Liverpool are a club that is beginning to produce its own again. And 2014/15 could well be a breakthrough year for some of those youngsters. This pre-season has seen Ibe, comf ...

Cristiano Ronaldo has set his sights on retaining the Champions League following Real Madrid's 2-0 win over Sevilla in the Uefa Super Cup in Cardiff. Ronaldo struck in either half for Carlo Ancelotti's side to guarantee the win and showed few signs of the knee and thigh trouble which blighted the end of last season as well as the World Cup. "Madrid are going to be the first team [to retain the Champions League] I hope," Ronaldo told the press. "I believe that the players Real Madrid bought - Toni Kroos, James Rodriguez and Keylor Navas - they're going to give more support to the team and more quality. "I am very glad for the quality we have in the squad. We're going to try to win all the trophies. It's good to win this trophy to give confidence to the team." Ronaldo latched on to a Gareth Bale cross after 30 minutes to give the Champions League holders the lead before a devastating solo effort in the second half put the game beyond Sevilla's reach. "It's an important trophy, the Super Cup, so we start on ...
Cuadrado admission The Colombian winger was scheduled to meet with his club’s chiefs today and has apparently told them to seek negotiations with both Louis Van Gaal and Barcelona’s Luis Enrique. Put simply he wants out. The 26-year-old, who further shot to prominence with his performances at this summer’s World Cup, has emerged as a top target for both United and their Catalan counterparts, and even the £32million price tag on his head has done little to halt their advances. Now, despite it being a scenario Van Gaal was likely to keen to avoid, it looks as though an out and out bidding war might commence. United of course have plenty of cash, but Barca have the allure of the Champions League which could be enough to turn the tide in their favour. If that is the case then it will be a big blow to the Red Devils, who apparently see Cuadrado as the ideal man to fill the wing-back position in their new 3-5-2 setup. Though Luke Shaw will no doubt have things under control on the opposite flank question ...
Southampton have met Celtic's asking price for Fraser Forster. The Daily Mail says Forster will hold talks with Southampton after Celtic accepted an offer worth £10million for the goalkeeper. The 26-year-old, who will be offered a four year contract, has been one of Southampton manager Ronald Koeman’s primary transfer targets this summer as he attempts to rebuild his squad after a raft of departures from the south coast club. Forster earned a place in England’s World Cup squad after impressing Roy Hodgson with a string of superb performances in the Champions League for Celtic. Celtic signed the 6ft 7in keeper on a four-year deal from Newcastle for £2m in 2012, following two seasons on loan in Glasgow, and it is understood his former club will be due a percentage of any sell-on fee.

Candreva: I want to play in the Champions League after World Cup for Italy - Forza Italian Football
World football star Cristiano Ronaldo took to Instagram with the photo of himself evidently enjoying some kind of a facial mask. According to Daily Mail, the 2013 Ballon d’Or winner is currently on his summer holiday, that comes right after the 2014 Fifa World Cup in which Real Madrid forward participated as captain of Portugal squad. While the the performance of the national team during the Mundial was quite disappointing for its fans, the trophy of this year UEFA Champions League went to Real Madrid with Ronaldo having claimed the record striking the most in the tournament season (17 goals of the campaign). Called by many world number one footballer, Ronaldo is also known for being a socially responsible person. In one of the recent interviews the 29-year-old explained that he had no tattoos on his body to be able to donate blood, which he allegedly does twice a year.
Former Valencia, Barcelona and Spain midfielder Gaizka Mendieta "I think Ronaldo is a worthy winner,If you look at the list, there are a lot of great players on there, but Ronaldo had an excellent season. "He was key, absolutely essential, as Real Madrid won La Decima. He also broke numerous records, including the Champions League goals mark, so I think that's why he has won the award. Unfortunately, his exploits for Madrid meant he ended up injured and that showed in the World Cup - but it didn't stop him winning this award." "It's an important prize and it is becoming more and more well known." Ronaldo and Messi have now won six of the seven awards since Goal 50 began back in 2008.
Raheem Sterling believes that the club's participation in the Guinness International Champions Cup tournament in America is vital for the team as they prepare for September's assault on the Champions League. Sterling made his return to the Liverpool starting XI after being on duty for England in Brazil, and had an instant impact by scoring the game's only goal within five minutes of the kick-off during the Reds' 1-0 victory over Olympiacos. With the Greek champions put to the sword in Chicago, Liverpool will now face current Premier League champions Manchester City in New York, then seven-time European Cup winners AC Milan in Charlotte. Sterling, who recently began his pre-season after returning from World Cup duty with England, believes the quality of the opposition the Reds are facing will be essential for the players and the challenges to come next season. "This is good opposition to play against," Sterling told Liverpoolfc.com. "They [Olympiacos] play in the Champions League and it's something we'll b ...
Football - Premier League Arsenal confirm signing of Colombia goalkeeper Ospina Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Colombia World Cup star David Ospina. In a statement on the club website, Arsenal confirmed that they had signed the player on a six-year contract for an undisclosed fee. Arsene Wenger told the official website: "David Ospina is an excellent goalkeeper, with good experience and a proven record of performing with Nice and Colombia." He will add strength to our squad and we are very pleased that he will be joining us." Ospina is the third World Cup star to arrive at Arsenal this summer, joining Chile’s Alexis Sanchez and France’s Mathieu Debuchy, who left Barcelona and Newcastle United respectively. Wenger's side, who won the FA Cup and qualified for the Champions League last season, have also been linked with Southampton duo Morgan Schneiderlin and Calum Chambers, although a move for Real Madrid's Germany midfielder Sami Khedira appears to have stalled.
First it was Toni Kroos, the rated player from the Fifa World Cup. Now it's James Rodriguez Oficial, the Golden Boot winner and the fan voted Goal scorer from the World Cup. Next up, it'll be Keylor Navas, the man and shot stopper largely responsible for the incredible run of the Costa Rican National Team. I don't care who you are, you can't deny that Real Madrid C.F. have just purchased 3 of the absolute Best Players on the market and are, hopefully, about to run the riot act in LigaBBVA and UEFA Champions League. El Clasico just got real. Good lord, and I thought the Denver Broncos had a spectacular free agency. HALA MADRID!

Arsenal chasing William Carvalho? Really? This entry was posted in Arsenal News, Arsenal NewsNow, Arsenal rumours and tagged carvalho, Mendes on July 21, 2014 by admin. Why Arsenal won’t sign William Carvalho by KJ There have been reports by Matt Law at the Daily Telegraph that Arsenal have made a £24 million bid for 22 year old William Carvalho. This was initially reported by O Jogo and Tony Lean (who was one of the first to report the Sanchez deal) feels that our interest in Carvalho is real. Even with all this going on, I don’t believe we’ll sign Carvalho, and here’s why. -He is relatively inexperienced. He hasn’t played any Champions League game and only made one start at the World Cup for a pretty poor Portugal. He’s also playing in the Portuguese league and it’s a massive risk bringing him to the Premier League – especially at £24 million. -There are many other midfielders available that have more experience. We are apparently interested in Khedira (although news on that has cooled ...

Monaco have told Real Madrid they will need to pay €90 million [£70m] if they are to sign Colombia's World Cup sensation James Rodriguez. The Ligue 1 club do not want to sell the leading scorer of Brazil 2014 although they have taken heed of James's desire to join Madrid, with the 23-year-old recently stating that he would go to the Spanish capital with his eyes closed. As such Monaco have floated a price of €90m to the Champions League winners, a sum that would place the Colombia international just behind prospective team-mates Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo in the list of world-record transfer fees. Manchester United could compete with the big-spending Liga club for James's signature and, while Madrid president Florentino Perez will attempt to negotiate the price down, the numbers are considered viable for a Galactico signing within the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real signed a player who has won the Champions League, Bundesliga and World Cup in the space of a couple of seasons for less than Adam Lallana who has never even played in Europe. That’s the problem with English football.
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand will have a medical with Queens Park Rangers on Thursday, according to Sky sources. The 35-year-old held talks with Rangers boss Harry Redknapp earlier this week following his return from Brazil where he had been working as a television pundit on the World Cup. Ferdinand, who won six league titles, two League Cups, one Champions League and a Club World Cup with United, has been looking for a club since the end of last season.
Next time a Man Utd Fan asks you how many Champions League trophies you have.ask him how many World Cup winners he has. With Evra gone...the answer is none. Arsenal has FOUR - Ozil, Podolski, Mertesacker and Khedira, who is about to be signed today. Go back in time and Man Utd has only ever produced 4 World Cup winners - Players who were playing with Man Utd prior to winning the world cup. Arsenal has produced several: Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry and Emmanuel Petit (France 1998) Cesc Fabregas and Santi Carzola (Spain 2010) Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski (Germany 2014) Don't be surprised if national team coaches start sending players to Arsenal for training...We produce World Champions.
The surprisingly big transfers you missed during the World Cup::: Fernando – Porto to Manchester City: £12 million The Premier League champions have bolstered their squad by signing Brazilian midfielder Fernando, who starred in a string of successful European runs at Porto. Worried about confusing him with his nearly-namesake Fernandinho? Don’t worry, the new signing will have ‘F Reges’ printed on his shirt to avoid a muddle on the terraces. Mario MandzukicBayern Munich to Atletico Madrid: Undisclosed fee Bayern made their feelings clear towards the Croatian striker when they agreed to sign Robert Lewandowski. Still, it’s hardly the end of the world when you can swap the Bundesliga champions for the Liga equivalent. Gareth BarryManchester City to Everton: Free Barry was influential as Everton flirted with the Champions League places last season and has now joined on a permanent deal from Manchester City. He was unfortunate (or perhaps fortunate) to be overlooked by Roy Hodgson for Eng ...

MALAGA CF STRENGTHEN SQUAD AHEAD OF GLORY GAME With just less than 2 weeks until Perth Glory take on La Liga giants, Málaga, in the LFP World Challenge match at nib Stadium on 27 July, the Spanish team have been very active in the transfer window bolstering their squad with some quality international recruits. Joining Málaga CF for the pre-season friendly against Perth Glory will be on loan signing, Luis Alberto, who joins them from English Premier League heavyweights, Liverpool FC; Roberto Rosales who with 50 caps for Venezuela, joins after playing for clubs in Belgium and Holland and competing in both the Europa League and the UEFA Champions League; and Ivory Coast-born, Arthur Boka, who has been involved in the last two World Cup tournaments with his country and has also won a German Championship with VfB Stuttgart. “There is no doubt that this match against Málaga CF will be a great test for our new squad.” Head Coach Kenny Lowe said. “It’s still very early on in our pre-season but to get t ...
Real Madrid CF is the only European Club to produce a UEFA Champions League winner and Fifa World Cup winner in the same year on three different occasions. Christian Karembeu (UCL 1998 & FWC 1998), Roberto Carlos (UCL 2002 & FWC 2002) and Sami Khedira (UCL 2014 & FWC 2014). The only other club to have achieved this feat is Bayern Muchen once in 1974 when Franck Bekenbeur and co won the European Cup with Bayern Muchen and went on to lift the Fifa World Cup same year with West Germany.
Only thing that makes me sad in life is that Michael Ballack doesn't have a Champions League medal or a World Cup one
Philipp Lahm is a German footballer and captain. He has led his teams to UEFA Champions League and Fifa World Cup titles.
Brazil have lodged an appeal against captain Thiago Silva's yellow card, shown during Friday’s World Cup quarter-final victory over Colombia in Fortaleza. Thiago received his second booking of the tournament after blocking Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina, which means he is suspended for the semi-final against Germany in Belo Horizonte on Tuesday. FIFA’s head of media Delia Fischer said: "I can confirm we have received an appeal from the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) and this is being analysed." Brazil’s chances of success appear very limited as appeals against yellow cards are not usually successful, only red cards. Real Madrid recently appealed against the yellow card which ruled Xabi Alonso out of the Champions League final during May but UEFA decided that this appeal was inadmissible. Should FIFA overturn a yellow card it would be hugely controversial, with many suspecting the governing body were favouring the hosts. However, the CBF is urging FIFA's disciplinary commission "to annul th ...
Liverpool or Bayern? Xherdan Shaqiri must decide between signing a new contract with Bayern Munich, or a move to Liverpool. Shaqiri has been handed an improved contract offer by Bayern. However Liverpool's interest has yet to subside, and are prepared to offer Bayern a generous deal to lure the Swiss international to Anfield. Shaqiri would represent another big money deal for Brendan Rodgers' side, who appear intent on building on last season's phenomenal campaign. The tricky winger would join Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Emre Can in Merseyside, and help to bolster the Northern Irishman's Champions League bound squad. The much coveted Shaqiri has an abundance of experience, and has already secured two Bundesliga titles, and a Champions League winners medal. Ottmar Hitzfeld's team's cruel exit from the World Cup is likely to accelerate any decision from Shaqiri, who has two-years remaining on his current Bayern deal.
Fraser Forster could leave Celtic... Speculation spiralled out that current Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster has announced that he might want to move down south or possibly somewhere elsewhere away from paradise. Spanish La Liga champions and UEFA Champions League runners up 'Athletico Madrid' has put flattering interest and apparently close of putting a offer of about £8m for the big Englishman in which Forster stated that he would like a possible move down south as he thinks that the SPFL shatters the chance of international football and a move down south would probably boost the chance of Fraser's dream which is to play in goals for his country. The shot-stopper never made an appearance for England in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. On a positive note though, he has made absolutely tremendous progress with goalkeeping coach Stevie Woods at the Glasgow club under Neil Lennon including the Champions League matches against the likes of Barcelona. Previous ex Celtic players like, Gary Hooper, Victor Wanyama ...
Diego Costa close to Chelsea switch Atletico Madrid are reported to be ready to allow Diego Costa to move to Stamford Bridge [Daily Mail]. The Spanish international striker has a buy-out clause in his contract that would be triggered by a bid of £32 million, a fee which Chelsea have been reported as ready to match. However, up to now the Madrid side have been unwilling to authorise the transfer, with the Blues concerned that the Spaniards are holding out for a better price from a rival bidder. But it is now thought that Atletico will let Costa leave as they prepare to swoop for Manchester City’s Spanish star Alvaro Negredo, planning to use the funds raised from Costa’s sale to finance that move. Costa scored a highly impressive 35 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions for Atletico in 2013/14 as Los Rojiblancos won La Liga and reached the final of the Champions League. However, he endured a miserable World Cup for Spain having made a controversial switch from his native Brazil. The potential Sta ...
Arsenal ‘are set to complete first signing’ as Frenchman arriving at the Emirates There has been some reports which have claimed Arsenal are set to complete their first signing of the summer with Mathieu Debuchy arriving from Newcastle United. Arsene Wenger has long admired the right-back, who would replace Man City-bound Bacary Sagna, and appears to have finally got his man. Debuchy has spent a year and a half on Tyneside after joining in a £5.5million from Lille, but he has been eyeing up a move in a bid to play Champions League football. Now the TalkSport website claim he will get his wish, as Wenger will announce a deal after France’s World Cup exploits. -AT
Transfer rumour.HUGE blow for Arsenal and Chelsea as £48m target Vidal admits he'd prefer Man Utd move.. CHILE midfield sensation Arturo Vidal has given Manchester United a huge transfer boost by declaring he'd rather move to Old Trafford than anywhere else. Vidal is wanted at United by new boss Louis Van Gaal as the Dutchman looks to get the club back on track after their dismal 2013-14 campaign. The Chilean starred for his country during their impressive run to the last 16 at the World Cup, and also drew the attention of a host of top clubs after a stellar season for Italian giants Juventus as the Turin side wrapped up their 30th Serie A title.United's Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal are also interested in bringing Vidal to England this summer. European heavyweights Monaco and Bayern Munich are also monitoring the situation, along with Champions League winners Real. And according to reports from Italy, Vidal is prepared to reject the advances of the Spanish giants as well as Arsenal and Chels ...

Arsenal may have to pay up to £35 million in order to sign Mario Balotelli if AC Milan get their way, The Insider has learned. Goal revealed earlier this week that Arsene Wenger and the player’s agent Mino Raiola were due to meet in Brazil - where the Arsenal manager is currently working as a pundit on French television - on Saturday with a view to thrashing out a deal for the controversial Italy striker. Arsenal were hopeful of being able to sign the former Manchester City star for around £25m but Milan have issued Raiola with a mandate to get an extra £10m from any potential buyer. Having missed out on Champions League qualification Milan are willing to let their star player leave, but with Manchester City due to receive a 20 per cent sell-on fee the Italian giants are hoping to drive up the asking price. Balotelli has scored 28 goals in 51 appearances for Milan since returning to Serie A in January 2013 and was coy when questioned about his future ahead of Italy’s shock 1-0 World Cup defeat agai ...
Which Manchester City star is homesick and looking to move his family to Madrid? Negredo looks set to call time on his brief Man City career because of homesickness Alvaro Negredo wants to quit Manchester City for a return to Spain with Atletico Madrid. The striker, who Etihad fans call “The Beast” scored 23 goals in his first season with City, asManuel Pellegrini's men lifted both the Premier League title and Capital One Cup. But Negredo and his family have struggled to settle in England and his form became affected by homesickness and a shoulder injury to such an extent that he failed to hit the target in the final four months of the campaign. His slump saw him lose his place in the Spain squad forthe World Cup in Brazil, with Vicente Del Bosque opting to take Fernando Torres and Diego Costa. Negredo hopes City accept Atletico’s offer to hand back the full £20m that they paid Seville for Negredo last summer. The La Liga champions and Champions League finalists see him as an ideal replacement forC ...
Thinking I'd be happy Arsenal signing no striker & giving Joel Campbell a go. Champions League + World Cup performances would rate him £15m+
If anyone knows how to stop Argentina maestro Lionel Messi, it may just be Iran coach Carlos Queiroz. He has been credited with devising the tactics and defensive system that shut down Messi in both legs of the 2008 Champions League semifinals while Queiroz was assistant manager at Manchester United, which beat Barcelona 1-0 on aggregate. Many have described Queiroz's strategy as a master class, with United stifling Messi by denying him space to get a good first touch. Now, Queiroz will attempt the same feat when Iran takes on Argentina in Group F on Saturday. "We will try to do it," Queiroz said. "But Messi is surrounded by different players now. They know each other well." Queiroz has already proven at this World Cup that he can put out a solid defensive unit, holding Nigeria to a 0-0 draw in Iran's first group match. But it will be a very different proposal against an Argentina side that also has other star players like Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain. Queiroz said the key is for his team to play wit ...
Barcelona join rivals Real Madrid in race to sign Liverpool and Uruguay star Luis Suarez Jun 20, 2014 22:30 By John Cross The Spanish giants are both looking to sign the Premier League's top scorer, believing that a £70milllion bid will activate a release clause. Real Madrid are already targeting the Liverpool striker, with the Spanish clubs believing he has a £70million release clause in his contract. Suarez’s demolition job on England in the World Cup has made him the hottest property in football. And he last night took a swipe at England boss Roy Hodgson for remarks he made in the build-up to the Group D clash. Suarez said: “It wasn’t revenge, but in England they talked about the injury and the coach had words that annoyed (me). The England coach said I was a proven Premier League player, but not world class. So there is the answer.” His comment seemed to be the opening shot in a bid to move from the Premier League. He admitted he was desperate to score against England, claiming his critics ...
HOW AND WHY SPAIN IS OUT BY SUNDAY OLISEH A hungry, agressive and highly-motivated Chilean side sent defending champions Spain out of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. “Tiki Taka” is struggling and needs an update and it seems that humans can also get tired of winning even if they are not conscious of it. For the past seven years this nation has dominated the headlines. Players like Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, David Silva and Xavi Alonso have been performing at the highest level week in, week out and now it's clear they are burned out. In the space of two World Cup first-round matches, Spain conceded more goals than it conceded in the entire World Cup in South Africa. What went wrong? Tiki Taka went wrong. Tiki taka has lost a crucial ingredient. Has it ever struck you how Spain's fortunes seem to be synonymous with that enjoyed by Barcelona? Barcelona's domination of European and world soccer really hit a high from 2006 as they beat Arsenal 2-1 to clinch the Champions League. The next step for Spain's natio ...
Sneijder: Van Gaal bid hard to refuse Wesley Sneijder has said he would find it hard to reject a move to Manchester United if new manager Louis Van Gaal wanted to sign him. - Vermaelen to OT just Belgian Waffle? - Blind plays down Old Trafford link The midfielder, a target for Sir Alex Ferguson during the final years of his reign at Old Trafford, is a key member of Van Gaal's Netherlands squad and won his 100th cap in the 5-1 thrashing of World Cup holders Spain. Sneijder, 30, the joint top scorer at the 2010 World Cup, when he scored five goals, and a Champions League winner at Inter Milan, has spent the last 18 months at Galatasaray. Speaking at a news conference prior to the Netherlands' game against Australia, he said: "I am happy at Galatasaray, I have established myself at the club and have settled in. "However, if Van Gaal were to make me an offer, I would have to at least consider it. Nobody from the Netherlands can simply reject Van Gaal. "In the Netherlands, Van Gaal is something like the head t ...
Germany - Portugal 4-0 Expected result. Germany is for Portugal " bete noire - black ", they beat them always in the World Cup and European Championship, Portugal never managed even to draw against them. Also some years ago Bayern Munich beat Sporting Lisbone with 12-1 on aggregates in the Champions League last 16 ( 0-5, 7-1 ). But I do not understand why Portugal always plays so badly against Germany, I mean they are not the weak team, they have Ronaldo and although Germany is better Portugal should sometimes draw at least one game, but they still keep on losing against Germany every time. So they were paired in the same group with their black cat and the early exit for Portugal is very probable ( I would say they are 80% already out ). RIP Portugal, RIP Christiano Ronaldo.
Why YOU should be watching the World Cup: The players. The overall quality and skill may be as good as it has ever been in any international competition. No, there's no Pele or Maradona, who were quite possibly the two most magically gifted players to ever play the game, but there are a couple close seconds, and a third who may not get the chance to play due to injury. Lionel Messi: Argentine international; plays for Barcelona at the club level. Until this year he was the 4 times straight winner of the Balon D'Or, the title given to the player considered to be the best in the world. Cristiano Ronaldo: Portugal international; plays for Real Madrid at the club level. Current holder of the Balon D'Or. He's a lot of flash, but so much more substance. Holds the record for the most goals scored in a single Champions League season, which his team just won in May. Players Who Will Be Greatly Missed: Luis Suarez: Uruguay international; plays for Liverpool at the club level. Already a supremely talented player, he ...
some things that will happen during World Cup. 1. “Cristiano Ronaldo will not score” Portuguese captain has been instrumental on Real Madrid double (Copa Del Rey and Champions League), breaking goals record. He is a La Liga top goal scorer with 31 goals, Champions League top scorer with 17 goals (record) and Europe top goal scorer equal with Suarez (but he has played less games than Suarez). But he has been told that will not score! 2. “Brazil will exit in semi finals” Brazil are favorite to win a record title of 6th World cup, they’re the hosting nation and they’re expected to do better than they did in 2006 in Germany and 2010 in South Africa. The have the strongest squad made of top players who play in toughest competition/leagues. But they’ve told that they will never reach semi-finals! 3. “No African team will go to the next round” African team have not been doing well in World Cups, but they always advance to last 16 to last 8. The African team which always do well is Ghana and the ...
If Nigeria will not win this year's World Cup, let the Netherlands win it. They have never won it despite their great efforts. In 1974, they produced World Cup's Best Player in Johan Cruyff but lost the cup. In the late 80s they had 3 players termed the Dutch Terrific Trio: Marco van Basten, Ruud Gullit and Frank Rijkaard. After winning Euro 88, they fumbled at the1990 World Cup. In the mid 90s, they had some of the sweetest players in the world via Ajax where our brothers Finidi George and Nwankwo Kanu joined in winning the Champions League. They had players like Clarence Seedorf, Edgar Davids, the de Boer brothers, Marc Overmars, Edwin van de Saar, Patrick Kluivert etc. But at the 1998 World Cup, they lost to Brazil in the semi-final through penalties. This time they have started well by whipping the defending champions Spain. I also love the Netherlands (just as I love France) for their good use of Black players.
Today'$ Big Match : Germany Vs Portugal at 9:30pm tonight Head to Head These two teams played 17 times against each other. Germany won 9, drew 5 and lost 3 times. Portugal scored 16 out of total 41 goals scored. Key Players Germany: Mesut Ozil, Mario Goetze & Philipp Lahm Portugal: Cristiano Ronaldo, Pepe & William Carvalho Prediction of the Match Germany and Portugal will open their respective World Cup campaigns when they meet at Arena Fonte Nova in Salvado on Monday. The big question leading up to this game is whether Real Madrid’s superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is fit enough to play a 90 minute fixture. The Ballon d’or winner, who played an incredible season domestically, crowned with Champions League victory, missed the first two World Cup friendlies for his country, before making a 60 minute comeback against Ireland last week. CR7 is expected to start in any case, but it remains to be seen if his performance will be up to par. Paulo Bento will need his key player to be in top form should he want to ...
Stamp of approval for a baby Elephant “Today a young one had his say,” Didier Drogba told FIFA.com after Côte d'Ivoire came from behind to open their Fifa World Cup™ account with a 2-1 win over Japan. “Serge brought us energy and balance and he had a fantastic game,” added the 36 year-old striker, a UEFA Champions League winner and a true icon of African football. Drogba, a member of Côte d'Ivoire’s aging Golden Generation, is speaking of one Serge Aurier. Just 21-years-old, the flying Toulouse wing-back had a night to remember in his World Cup debut. “I can’t believe it,” the stocky wide man enthused, all nervous energy and kinetic excitement. “It’s my first World Cup, we’re here in Brazil and I helped the team to win. It’s like a dream.” Les Elephants went down early to an incisive strike from Keisuke Honda. The game stretched on until the middle of the second half without Côte d'Ivoire able to find a concrete reply. A few set-pieces from captain Yaya Toure flew over the b ...
No Falcao:. 1) Atletico Madrid win La Liga and go to Champions League finals. 2) Colombia score most World Cup goals in a match since 1962
Casillas the World Cup, European Championships and Champions League winner, to name a few! No sympathy, though 😂
Champions League, Europa League, World Cup, European Championship... it's about time they lost.

Ancelotti preaches Italian unity Carlo Ancelotti has called on Italy to believe in their chances of winning the Fifa World Cup™, even though Cesare Prandelli's side enter the tournament in unconvincing form. The 2006 champions' preparations included draws with Republic of Ireland and Luxembourg, plus failure to convince despite beating Brazilian club side Fluminense 5-3. However, the Real Madrid coach has urged the four-time Fifa World Cup winners to pull in the same direction and take inspiration from his side, who won the UEFA Champions League last season. "When you take part in a World Cup there is always a lot of excitement and tension and everyone needs to chip in if you want to achieve something big," said Ancelotti in a letter published in La Gazzetta dello Sport. "However, people are sceptical about our chances, and do not believe in us. Well, I can guarantee that if the team and the coaching staff stay united and all read from the same page, then the atmosphere will become more favourable, and ...
beIN Sports are the exclusive broadcasters of the World Cup 2014, English Premier League, La Liga, Calcio, Ligue 1, Champions League etc...in the Middle East, in order to watch the matches people need to subscribe (an average of USD 450 per year), the subscription will include all Nile Sat free to air channels in addition to 15 beIN Sports HD channels and 10 beIN Sports channel...unfortunately beIN Sports did not commercialize World Cup stand alone package (like ART used to do previously) where the subscription is limited to the World Cup period. Liverpool are u happy? Liverpool are looking to make heavy squad additions this summer, before the team embarks on next season’s Champions League campaign. After conceding 50 goals in the Premier League last term, Brendan Rodgers knows he needs to make defensive improvements – while Steven Gerrard needs backup in midfield, as do Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge in the attacking positions. 6) Rickie Lambert – £4m The English forward has already been signed for £4m. He will join up with the Liverpool squad after the World Cup, and provide goals and assists from the bench next term. The 32-year-old has only got a few years left at the top, but after developing his undeniable ability late on in his career – he’ll be determined to take his chance with both hands. 5) Emre Can – £9.75m Liverpool have agreed a deal in principle for Germany’s Under-21 international. He’s a very talented anchorman, and will likely be used as backup to Steven Gerrard in the role. 4) Dejan Lovren . ...
Cristiano Ronaldo was among Portugal's starting 11 against Ireland in the team's final friendly on Tuesday before heading to Brazil for the World Cup. Portugal crashed Ireland 5 - 1 as Cr7 played 66min before they took him out. Ronaldo apparently is recovered enough from tendinitis in his left knee and a thigh injury. Ronaldo last played in the Champions League final for Real Madrid on 24 May against Atletico Madrid, scoring the final goal on a penalty kick in the 120th minute of a 4-1 victory. Portugal played two matches without its lead striker, drawing 0-0 with Greece and defeating Mexico, 1-0. The Portuguese open the World Cup on 16 June against Germany, and also will face the United States and Ghana in Group G.
No Ramires raid! Jose Jose Mourinho is not interested in selling midfielder Ramires and will reject the advances of Real Madrid to keep the Brazil star at Chelsea. Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was preparing to raid his former club for the 27-year-old, who he signed in 2010 during his time in charge at Stamford Bridge. Following last month's Champions League triumph over city rivals Atletico, Ancelotti told Madrid president Florentino Perez that he wanted to bring Ramires to the Bernabeu this summer along with Liverpool striker Luis Suarez. But according to reports in Spain, Mourinho will not entertain the possibility of letting Ramires leave the club having decided not to renew the contract of veteran Frank Lampard and sanctioned the £50m sale of David Luiz to PSG. Ramires has been a mainstay in the Chelsea midfield since joining from Benfica for £17m, making 196 appearances for the Blues. The Brazil international, currently preparing for the World Cup, is contracted at Chelsea until 2017 having signed a ...
chelsea; A popular witch doctor based in Portugal has revealed that he is responsible for the injury of defender Jerry Akaminko, adding that, two more casualties will follow. The doctor whose name was given as Mel Sigurson said he suspected ‘spiritual foul play’ when their idol Cristiano Ronaldo started having minor injuries prior to the Champions League final against Atletico Madrid, an action that raised his concern following his many years in the business. He later realized that it wasn’t ordinary as many had thought and was even responsible for healing Ronaldo prior to the finals as he would have missed it. “Ronaldo is a strong player, both physically and spiritually, but these injuries got me worried and at a time we are going to the World Cup,” Mel Sigurson mentioned on Rádio Mar in Portugal. “I discovered that some of our World Cup opponents were and am still working on the team. So I have decided to pay them back in their own coin with injuries.” “The Germans have their own share, ...
Wayne Rooney : CAN HE LIGHT UP BRAZIL? More than a decade after he made his England debut as a fearless and prodigiously-talented teenaged tear-away, it is still hard to find a consensus on Wayne Rooney's value to his country. Is he the world-class talisman upon whom several England managers - as well as thousands of travelling fans - have invested their hopes of overdue success? Is he merely a good player whose intermittent brilliance exposes the mediocrity of many of his international teammates? Or is he the English enigma - perhaps even underachiever - who has caused so much frustration at major tournaments? What is clear is, that at the age of 28 and with 90 caps and 38 goals behind him, Rooney owes England a big World Cup in Brazil. The Liverpool-born striker might have won Premier League and Champions League titles since joining Manchester United from Everton in 2004, but his England career has no obvious mark of distinction. He is even waiting for his first goal at a World Cup. In Germany in 2006, ...
Spain international, David Villa, will join Melbourne City on a 10-match loan deal ahead of playing in the MLS next season. Villa will join New York City FC, owned by Manchester City's owners, but will first be send to Australia to maintain his match fitness. The new season in the US won’t start until February 2015 and Villa would be left with eight-month break after the World Cup. The 32-year-old is Spains all-time record goal-scorer with 56 goals in 94 caps and has indicated he will retire from international football after the World Cup. "Obviously it's my last World Cup and that probably also means my last appearances for Spain. I think that, considering my age and everything I've given, the time has come,” he told Marca. Villa scored 13 goals for Atletico as the Madrid-based club won their first La Liga title in 18 years last season, while they were also 90 seconds away from winning the Champions League. His loan move means David Villa will have gone from Champions League football to Australia’s ...

Costa converted from a Brazil international to la Roja earlier this season and had a stunning season with Atletico Madrid, starring as they won La Liga. However, the 25-year-old has been a major fitness worry throughout the last few weeks, with a recurring hamstring problem limiting his participation in the final league match and the Champions League final. While Costa has been picked to help Spain defend their crown in South America this summer, Juventus forward Fernando Llorente and Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo miss out. Fernando Torres might ...

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and coach Carlo Ancelotti are keen to keep hold of their Champions League-winning squad this summer. If any deals are completed they will not be before the end of the World Cup. (Marca)
Arsenal's transfer business this summer is braced for an awkward twist after Real Madrid poured cold water on rife transfer links involving a number of its players. According to Marca, last season's Copa Del Rey and UEFA Champions League winners are "in no hurry to recruit fresh legs and neither are they in under pressure to sell anyone. " President Florentino Perez has prioritized minimizing departures this summer as Carlo Ancelotti intends to utilize the vast potential already endowed in his tool chest. The Spanish capital outfit will not entertain any bids until after the World Cup showpiece in Brazil. Both Sami Khedira and Karim Benzema who were initially tipped to don Arsenal colors in the new season are set to be offered new contracts while Angel Di Maria who is currently desperate will be soothed by a pay rise. However long term target Alvaro Moratta could be allowed to leave as he is deemed surplus with the club rumored to be preparing a bid for either Manchester City's Sergio Aguero or Liverpool' ...
GROUP B: Spain, Netherlands, Chile, Australia Group B is another group of deaths in FIFA 2014 World Cup. The reigning Champs Spain, last world cup's finalist Netherlands, Latin maestro Chile and Australia. The Tiki-Taka is deemed to be one of the favorites in Brazil to lift the glory. They are strong and their squad's depth is quite remarkable; even the benchwarmers could form a formidable eleven. Jordi Alba, Ramos, Pique, Juanfran at the back; Xavi, Iniesta, Xabi Alonso, David Silva, Santi Cazorla, Jesus Navas, Juan Mata and rising star Koke in the middle of the pitch could easily cast a ghost spell over the opponents. However, in recent days, Vicente Del Bosque has been deploying a false 9 under the Tiki-Taka. The reason may be short of in-form strikers in the squad. However, this year will be marked by the inclusion of Brazilian born Atletico-gun Diego Costa. He superbly finished the season with the Red-and-White, helping them to the final of UEFA Champions League and scoring 27 league goals just fini ...
The Woods World Cup Countdown 12th : France Les Bleus have a chequered history at World Cup finals. They were the first defending champions to exit at the group stage in the next tournament and last time out in South Africa, the team made the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Players sent home, internal bickering and awful performances on the pitch. In 2006, Zinedine Zidane famously brought down the curtain on his career with a red card in the final in Germany. This year, under Didier Deschamps however, France have looked considerably better, though they did need an epic comeback win in the second leg of their qualification playoff against Ukraine to reach Brazil. Champions on home soil in '98, the French have reached at least the semi-finals on five occasions and with the experience they have in their ranks, I think they're a safe bet to make it through a relatively worry-free group, most likely in top spot. If everything plays out as I expect though, I can see France losing in an upset in the Round o ...
Ronaldo Hampered by Thigh Injury. Cristiano Ronaldo has joined up with the Portugal squad ahead of the World Cup still troubled by the thigh injury which hampered his end to the club season with Real Madrid. Ronaldo completed 90 minutes in just two of Madrid's last 10 games before the campaign- ending Champions League final, in which he was clearly not in top condition but got on the scoresheet by hammering in a penalty late in extra-time to seal his side's 4-1 win. The national captain, along with Madrid teammates Pepe and Fabio Coentrao, had a few days off to rest after that game. After the 29-year-old had joined the national training camp in Obidos on Thursday, the Portugal FA released a statement which suggested the issue was not a major concern. It said: "Soreness in the posterior region of the left thigh, specific recovery work in the hotel." The injury news also said that and have similar minor problems, but all are expected to travel to the U.S. with the squad ahead of warm-up games against on Jun ...
The red fury enters!!! the show !!! : Spain vs Bolivia Tonight's predictions and Preview - Football betting tips for Spain vs Bolivia and predictions for the match ahead of Spain’s quest to defend their crown at the World Cup.World Champions Spain continue their preparations ahead of Brazil 2014 with a friendly in Sevilla against Bolivia on Friday night. The game, and perhaps the 2014 World Cup, look to have come a little too soon for Diego Costa, after the Atletico front man limped off in last weekend’s Champions League final. Spain however are not lacking in options in attack, and players like Alvaro Negredo, David Villa and Fernando Llorente will cause the tightest of defences problems in Brazil. The trio can be found respectively to open the scoring in Seville, but in a Spanish side which carries threat from all areas of the pitch it is hard to pinpoint where the goals will come from. Players like Fabregas, Jesus Navas and David Silva have all had great domestic seasons and highlight just how po . ...

Fair play to Rickie Lambert. You can't say no. From League 2 to Champions League and World Cup. Dream story. Take that Santia…
Rickie Lambert was playing League Two eight years ago, now it's World Cup this summer and Champions League next season. What a story. I've got nothing but admiration for the guy, fairy tale stuff !
I was not exactly filled with confidence about England's World Cup chances when I noticed Stephen Gerrard, when asked which team he fancied to win the Champions League final said...'Madrid'. I would have thought under the circumstances he would have been absolutely 100% certain but no, he thought they would 'Just sneak it'. Still, Richard Pryor when addressing criticism of the boxer Leon Spinks said 'You don't have to be an entomologist to knock the m. out!'
Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the world's most marketable footballer. The 29-year-old Portuguese forward may have missed out on La Liga title but, after ending the season by winning the Champions League, Ronaldo can look forward to the World Cup knowing he is the most liked player on the planet. It is based on marketing research that involved a global study looking at measured perceptions of over 6,500 people in 13 countries. The index used measured the public perception of eight different attributes of the players including appeal and influence on modern society. Almost 84 per cent of people surveyed had heard of Ronaldo with 72 per cent revealing they 'liked' the Former Manchester United star. Lionel Messi was second ahead of his Barcelona team-mate Gerard Pique whose global presence has risen thanks to his relationship with singer Shakira. Fernando Torres may have struggled for form since his move to Chelsea, but being well known in markets like China has contributed to the strik ...
BLUES DUO NAMED IN SPAIN FRIENDLY SQUAD Fernando Torres and Cesar Azpilicueta have been included in a 19-man Spain squad to face Bolivia in a friendly next Friday. The game represents the last opportunity for players to stake a claim before Vincente Del Bosque trims his provisional 30-man World Cup squad down to 23 on 2 June. The Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid players named in the provisional group have been omitted for Friday's game after taking part in the Champions League final, while Alvaro Negredo, Jesus Navas and Fernando Llorente have also been left out. Former Chelsea attacker Juan Mata joins Torres and Azpilicueta in the squad. Spain squad to play Bolivia on Friday: Pepe Reina, David De Gea, Gerard Pique, Raul Albiol, Javi Martinez, Jordi Alba, Cesar Azpilicueta, Alberto Moreno, Zavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Santi Cazorla, Ander Iturraspe, Cesc Fabregas, Juan Mata, David Silva, Pedro Rodriquez, Fernando Torres, Gerard Deulofeu.
Enyeama, only Nigerian picked. So another fantastic season for African players across Europe is almost at an end. At the conclusion of the club and continental football calendar, and ahead of the World Cup, we present the African Team of the Season. Vincent Enyeama How can any of the continent’s stoppers compare to Vincent Enyeama? The Nigerian has had a terrific year at Lille and has established himself as one of the Europe’s finest goalkeepers. His 1062 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal in the top-flight didn’t quite break Gaetan Huard’s long-standing French record, but it was evidence of a keeper playing at the absolute pinnacle of his game. He was consistently excellent this season – admittedly playing behind a solid defensive unit – and helped Les Dogues back into the Champions League. Faouzi Ghoulam The defender made a mid-season switch from Saint-Etienne to SS Napoli and has coped remarkably well with the transition from French to attacking football. He has delivered a ...
La Decima Contrary to innuendo from a section of over excited Real Madrid fans concerning the Champions League final last Saturday, I actually predicted the Whites would win against Atletico Madrid. In fact, in my analysis I singled out the danger Angel Di Maria would be in his new role (Lo Renzo remember the Mesut Ozil aside?) And Di Maria was the official man of the match. I said Real Madrid would emerge champions though my heart wanted-fact-Diego Simeone's side to win. Wait a minute! Atleti got a bitter taste of the cruelty of football. Kind of reminds their fans not to make monkey chants and gestures to African and black players. Karma. The lesser evil triumphed. Let us see how Spain does at the World Cup. It is the racism in some of them that I hate. But La Decima was well deserved in the end for Real Madrid. And I said so prior to the match-in fact after they eliminated Bayern Munich (no selective amnesia Fidelis Silungwe). Congratulations to all good Real Madrid fans! (And sorry imposters who canno ...
The former Everton forward has played a huge number of matches since bursting onto the scene at a young age and his former team-mate feels that his best may be behind him Manchester United legend Paul Scholes is concerned Wayne Rooney may be past his peak after playing too many games since his meteoric rise to prominence as a teenager. The 28-year-old made his Premier League debut at the age of 16 before moving to Old Trafford as an 18-year-old, but has come increasingly under the microscope ahead of the World Cup. With a huge burden of expectation on his shoulders for both club and country, along with the sheer quantity of matches that he has played, Scholes is worried Rooney may have reached his best earlier than expected. "Wayne was in the Everton team at 16 years of age, in 2003," the former United midfielder wrote in a blog for Paddy Power. "Since then he's played at Euro 2004, two World Cups, Premier League and Champions League every year at United. "There's a chance he's worn out. "Wayne's peak may ...
Iker Casillas believes that La Decima is more important than winning the World Cup this summer after Real Madrid lifted the Champions League.
In 1966 the Eurovision song contest was won by Austria, the Champions League was won by Real Madrid, La Liga was won by Athético Madrid and the World Cup was won by England.
Predicted line ups for both Real and Atletico Madrid ahead of Champions League final. Atletico have a great chance to cap their season off with a well earned double, however, injury concerns to key men could put a damper on their chances. Here is how we think both sides will line up for Saturday night's showpiece finale. Atletico Madrid * GK: Thibaut Courtois The final could be the Belgian's swan song in an Atletico jersey as he prepares to return to Chelsea after the World Cup. * RB: Juanfran A quiet yet effective and reliable component in Atletico's successful season. Will have his hands full with Ronaldo. * CB: Miranda Solid and dependable, will be able to match up to the prowess of Karim Benzema with no problems. *CB: Diego Godin The Uruguayan stopper will be looked upon to shut out Real's attacks and provide a goal threat going forward from set pieces. *LB: Filipe Luis Perhaps the only man on the pitch capable of keeping Gareth Bale quiet. * CM: Tiago With his contract expiring in July, he will look ...
Nabenia key member of Under 19 football team Ba’s Samuela Nabenia has been tagged as one of the players who will be key for the Vodafone Fiji Under-19 football side at the World Cup play-offs starting in Suva tomorrow. Nabenia, who is the younger brother of former Ba rep Malakai Tiwa, is in the final 20-member squad. National coaching director Juan Carlos Buzzetti says Nabenia, who played for Ba in the OFC Champions League, is destined for great things in the sport. “Nabenia missed the cut in last year’s squad. But this year he has been fantastic, he was probably one of our Best Players during the New Zealand tour. He showed potential he has, so quick and so sharp and never stops working for the entire 90 minutes. So we are very pleased with him.” The tournament gets underway with Fiji clashing with American Samoa clash at 2.30pm at the ANZ Stadium. Vanuatu meets New Caledonia at 5pm, before the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea clash at 7.30pm. You can catch live commentaries of Fiji’s games ...
