Mirallas penalty madness leaves Martinez looking rocky COMMENT: The Belgian took the ball from Leighton Baines and promptly missed from 12 yards as Everton failed to find a way past West Brom Jan 20, 2015 00:16:00By Tom Maston at Goodison Park Everton's home has long been touted as one of the most atmospheric stadia in the Premier League, so when the loudest cheer of a game is reserved for the filming of a Hollywood blockbuster at half-time, it is clear something is not quite right at Goodison Park. The appearance of Sylvester Stallone on the big screen and the crowd being whipped into a frenzy so they could be used in a scene for the latest instalment of the 'Rocky' franchise could not inspire Roberto Martinez's side, and those questioning his suitability to manage a team with Champions League aspirations will only grow in number following another drab performance. Though they dominated West Brom for almost the entirety of the 90 minutes on Monday, their inability to even muster a shot on target from ins ...
The test of three matches in six days has pushed players and managers to the limit over the festive period but tired legs have not stopped some from impressing. Chelsea's humbling at Tottenham followed Manchester City's late New Year's Day win over Sunderland, results which leave the pair equal on points and goal difference to set up a mouth- watering title race in 2015. Elsewhere, Southampton have rediscovered form which builds hope of Champions League qualification but West Brom - with Tony Pulis now in charge - frustrated another side chasing the top four, earning a point at West Ham. Crystal Palace will also see change with Alan Pardew set to take the hot seat and they warmed up for his arrival with a draw at Aston Villa, and what next for Everton? Beaten again. Antony Kastrinakis (The Sun) – Success means winning trophies, not 4th position. “When Wenger arrived, how many titles had Arsenal won in England? Ten. “How many titles had Manchester United won when Wenger arrived? Ten. “When Wenger arrived in England, Arsenal were as big as United, it’s as simple as that. “When you’re at a massive club you have to win. That’s why Real Madrid change managers like shirts. If you don’t win at Real Madrid, you get the sack. If you win, like Carlo Ancelotti does, you get a new contract. When you stick with failure it means you're no longer a massive club." “Now Wenger has kept a massive club afloat, that’s what he has done. But, He has kept a massive club in the top four, he has not kept West Brom in the top four. He has kept one of the top 10 clubs in the world in the top four in England. “Five years before he arrived they had won the title and had won two titles in three years. When he arrived the gap between United and Arsenal was not as big. “I ...
Wenger ignores fans' banner Arsene Wenger vowed to continue to ignore his critics after seeing Arsenal win 1-0 at West Brom in the Premier League. The Frenchman came under fire from a section of Gunners fans at The Hawthorns on Saturday as they unveiled a banner reading 'Arsene, thanks for the memories but it's time to say goodbye'. Victory, earned by Danny Welbeck's second-half header, saw Arsenal seal successive wins after their 2-0 Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night. Arsenal fans remain frustrated with the Gunners' failure to compete for the title, though, with some calling for Wenger to leave after 18 years in charge. However, the Gunners boss, who refused to answer questions about the banner, was unmoved. Wenger said: "I don't comment on that. Do I need to say it again? I don't comment on your question." He added: "Every person has responsibility to prepare for the future, always." And Wenger insisted he had also ignored any criticism after last Sunday's 2-1 defeat to ...
VS England striker nodded home on the hour to down the Baggies and secure a first victory in three Premier League outings for Arsene Wenger's side, lifting them into the top four Danny Welbeck struck as Arsenal's resurgent end to November was consolidated with a hard-fought 1-0 win at West Brom in the Premier League. Consecutive defeats domestically - following a 3-3 draw with Anderlecht in the Uefa Champions League, which saw Arsenal throw away a three-goal lead - had seen Arsene Wenger's ability to guide the London club to further silverware this season questioned. However, a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in midweek proved Arsenal's capabilities against European opposition and the grit displayed at The Hawthorns will have enthused Wenger.
FABREGAS: WELL CENTERED.. Cesc Fabregas spoke publically after the weekend win over West Brom about his joy from the football he is currently playing a part in, and there was nothing in the Champions League success midweek to reduce the pleasure. He played crucial parts in four of the five goals against Schalke while back in the Premier League he is setting up goals at record-breaking rates and making record numbers of passes. Speaking after the game in Germany, the Spaniard confirmed the role in the centre of midfield alongside a player like Nemanja Matic but with freedom to switch with others is the one that suits him best. ‘I feel more in control of the game,’ Fabregas said. ‘I touch the ball all the time and I feel happy and I go and get the ball from here and from there. I can go forward and Oscar drops deep and I feel free and confident and I am in control, and that is what I like the most in football. ‘Sometimes in the last three or four years with the national team and Barcelona I was play ...
Jose Mourinho is resigned to the prospect of losing this season but insists defeat will not lead to crisis at Stamford Bridge. The Blues can extend their unbeaten run to 18 games when they face West Brom on Saturday and victory would extend their lead over Southampton to seven points. But Mourinho does not fear the prospect of picking up a first loss of the campaign and is confident his side are strong enough mentally to bounce back from any such setback and avoid falling into a rut. "The thing that gives us confidence is the results we are getting are not occasional. They're because we're playing well," he told reporters. "We believe that, when we lose points, the next game we are going to play well again. "Against Maribor in the Champions League [earlier in November], we lost two points but in the next game we were not in crisis. We were at Liverpool to play well again. "I don't believe there'll be a Chelsea crisis in the season. I believe Chelsea will lose points and matches, but not in a crisis of res ...

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says he has received no offers for out-of-favour goalkeeper Petr Cech. Cech has fallen behind Thibaut Courtois in contention for the number one jersey at Chelsea, prompting rumours of a move to Arsenal, AC Milan and Liverpool. But Mourinho said Cech has not been affected by speculation and continues to train "for the good of the team". "Not once has Petr knocked on the door to inform me of his desire to accept some proposal," Mourinho said. "Petr Cech is our goalkeeper and he has a contract for two more years. He is a fantastic professional." The Czech international's only Premier League appearance this season came when Courtois was substituted after sustaining a head injury during Chelsea's 2-0 win over Arsenal on 5 October. He has started in two Capital One Cup games and two Champions League games. In August Mourinho admitted Cech was "not totally happy" about losing his regular starting place. "Diego Costa is totally recovered, the same with [Andre] Schurrle. [Cesc] Fabreg ...

Whilst the Blues were in Uefa Champions League action midweek, they only played 24 hours after Manchester United, who drew 2-2 at West Bromwich Albion on Monday night football. Louis Van Gaal’s side have been up and down, and whilst they have only lost one of their last seven in the league, they haven’t faced too many top half candidates, and have looked woeful defensively in just about every game. Team News Manchester United Jonny Evans and Paddy McNair missed Monday’s draw at West Brom but may be fit for this game. Both certainly won’t play as right-footed centre- backs – Louis Van Gaal has Marcos Rojo as the left-footed left centre-back, and Tyler Blackett can back him up. Olivier Giroud headed the Gunners ahead direct from Santi Cazorla’s corner in the 14th minute and that’s the way it stayed in a match of precious few chances that also saw Lukas Podolski hit the post. Depending on Everton's result against Manchester City, Arsenal might already be guaranteed a Champions League place for the 17th year in succession before they kick off against West Brom. If Everton lose this weekend, then Arsenal qualify whatever happens, while a point will be enough for the Gunners if Everton have drawn. An Arsenal win would make Everton's result irrelevant anyway. Facing Bayern Munich is a terrifying thought for most Manchester United fans right now. Beaten comfortably by both Liverpool and Manchester City in recent home games, United are clearly vulnerable, and the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final could be a bloodbath. So, what can under-fire manager David Moyes do to avoid embarrassment? What can he do to give his team even the slightest hope of progress? I say ATTACK. I say he should go at Bayern with a high tempo and tell his United team to attack them as they would West Brom, Norwich or Fulham. Yes, we may well get hammered, but at least they'll have sent a message of intent. And who knows what an early goal or two could do to his team's fragile confidence.
RECORD BREAKING OF DAVID MOYE AT Old Trafford Scottish Manchester United manager David Moyes is having probably his worst season of his managerial career, and for the first time in a long time the Red Devils won't make the Champions league. Alternative shortlist: Three managers QPR should pick ahead of Gianfranco Zola Tony Fernandes may be a Big Fan, but the Italian lacks the credentials of our promotion-happy trio. Harry Redknapp may leave Loftus Road this summer whether he achieves promotion or not, outlining Gianfranco Zola as a replacement who boasts owner Tony Fernandes’ seal of approval. The Telegraph understands that the Malaysian maestro is appreciative of the former Chelsea star’s brand of football, as well as his track record for forming a team on a budget. However, the 2012/13 season at Watford (in which they narrowly missed out on automatic promotion before succumbing in the play-off final) represents a solitary peak on his resume to date. Roberto Di Matteo Somewhat harshly removed from his position at Stamford Bridge last term, Zola’s former Chelsea mucker is a Champions League winning boss, although his time at West Brom may be of more interest to Fernandes. Having taken over the yo-yoing Baggies post-relegation, Di Matte ...
Phil Jones has returned to full training to hand David Moyes a much-needed boost following the defensive vulnerabilities exposed in Manchester United's Champions League defeat to Olympiakos. Jones, who had been out since suffering concussion at Stoke City on 1 February and has had a hip injury, will be available for United's next match, the trip to West Bromwich Albion a week on Saturday. His recovery, though, did not come in time to be considered for Roy Hodgson's England squad for next week's friendly with Denmark. In Tuesday evening's shock 2-0 defeat in Athens, Moyes selected Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand at centre-back. In light of their age – both are in their thirties – and lack of pace United defended deep but found themselves ran at and swamped in midfield, where Michael Carrick and Tom Cleverley struggled to offer protection. Jones's preferred position is central defence but the 22-year-old has also excelled this season in a holding role, so his return for the West Brom game should allow M ...

MY VIEW IN THE Premier League THIS WEEKEND!!! TOO MANY EXPECTATIONS BUT CAN SUNDERLAND FURTHER SPOIL THE MOOD AT EMIRATES? CAN EVERTON REGISTER THEIR INTENTION FOR TOP FOUR BY BEATING CHELSEA. TOO MANY THINGS LINED UP! Saturday 22 February 2014 Chelsea v Everton Stamford Bridge 14:45 The two clubs endured contrasting Fa Cup fortunes last week and, should Chelsea drop further points on Saturday after their draw against West Brom, this would constitute a blip. Managing the demands of a Champions League trip to Istanbul next week will also be on Jose Mourinho's mind. Roberto Martínez still has his sights on finishing fourth following the recent narrow defeat to Tottenham and will believe that his team can successfully take the game to Chelsea even at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes Liverpool have the advantage in the Premier League title race due to their absence from the Uefa Champions League. Liverpool's 3-2 win at Fulham on Wednesday evening put them four points behind leaders Chelsea in the table with 12 matches remaining. The Blues - as well as second-placed Arsenal and third-placed Manchester City - all have two-legged Champions League last-16 ties coming up, whereas Liverpool only have the Fa Cup as an additional distraction. Mourinho feels this could be pivotal over the final weeks of the season, but believes there will be more twists and turns to come in the Premier League with every team fighting to win vital points. Mourinho told Sky Sports News: "When I say we're not the top candidate everyone thinks 'here he is again, with what you like to call the mind games'. "But it's just my feeling. "The league is amazing - it is difficult for every one of us. "There are teams with more potential than others, obviously. There is another, like ...

'We'll get it right against the Gunners' Raheem Sterling is determined to ensure Liverpool bounce back from Sunday's 1-1 draw against West Brom, when they host current league leaders Arsenal at Anfield. The youngster admitted a sense of disappointment pervaded the dressing room after the Reds failed to bolster their Champions League push with three points at the Hawthorns. Daniel Sturridge tapped home the opener after bright movement from Sterling, who played in Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan found his strike partner unmarked at the far post with a sublime assist. However, Victor Anichebe levelled for Pepe Mel's side when he intercepted Kolo Toure's misplaced pass and fired low beyond Simon Mignolet to clinch a point. Sterling insisted the aim between now and Saturday, when Arsene Wenger's pace-setters arrive in L4, is to regroup and ensure concentration levels are maintained against the Gunners. "The whole team is disappointed not to get the three points against West Brom," he told Liverpoolfc.com. "The mana ...
Anichebe: "I got message from Everton to beat LFC" Victor Anichebe may have been born in Nigeria, but he moved to Liverpool at the age of nine and joined Everton's youth academy in 2003. In 2006 he made the leap to the first team where he eventually made 131 league appearances for the Toffees, scoring 18 league goals in the process. This past summer, he finally left his childhood club for West Bromwich Albion to continue his career. On Sunday, the Baggies hosted fourth place Liverpool in a match that had big implications on either end of the table. Liverpool continue their push for Champions League Football, while West Brom are doing their best to avoid the drop. Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring for Liverpool in the first half, but the Reds weren't able to hold on as Anichebe came off the bench and scored a vital equalizer for his side. After the match, Anichebe admitted that he may have received a little bit of extra motivation to score against Liverpool. ‘I was sitting on the side itching to get on ...
Liverpool defender Kolo Toure gifted West Brom an equaliser as the Reds missed a chance to tighten their grip on fourth place in the Premier League. Daniel Sturridge tapped in a Luis Suarez cross to put the visitors ahead. Albion picked up the pace after the break and Gareth McAuley had a powerful header palmed away by Simon Mignolet. But West Brom were rewarded for their efforts when Toure's poor pass found Baggies striker Victor Anichebe and he drilled in a low shot. Rodgers will not criticise Toure The setback means Liverpool have earned 16 points from 36 on their travels so far this season and the result will come as a relief to their rivals for the last Champions League place. Everton, who lost heavily to the Reds on Tuesday, beat Aston Villa on Saturday and are now only two points behind their neighbours, while Brendan Rodgers' side failed to capitalise on slip-ups for Tottenham, who drew at Hull, and Manchester United, who were beaten at Stoke. Only goal difference was keeping West Brom out of the ...
West Brom Albion 1-1Liverpool. If the Reds keep making elementary mistakes like Toure did, I am afraid no Champions League for us. All credits to WBA, they played really well..
Man United get that losing feeling • Whittaker: Champagne Charlie • Moyes: United were the better team Adam put the hosts in front with a deflected effort, then smashed home an excellent second after Robin Van Persie had levelled straight after the break. It was the first time United had tasted defeat at the Britannia Stadium too, their eighth reverse of the campaign dealing a savage blow to their hopes of securing a Champions League berth for next season. In a season of unwanted milestones, with West Brom, Everton and Newcastle all ending long runs without victories of some kind against United, this was another. Given Stoke had taken just one point from their previous six games, it represented yet more pain for manager David Moyes, whose team could find themselves nine points off a Champions League place by the end of the weekend. It also underlined that for all the feelgood atmosphere generated by Juan Mata's club record B£37.1million arrival from Chelsea, it is going to take far more to turn Unite ...

EPL + La Liga Fixtures West Brom Vs Everton - 7:00am - Fox Sports Tomorrow mornings game will be Pepe Mel's first in charge of West Brom. Mel was La Liga's longest serving manager before being dismissed in December from (at the time) rock bottom Real Betis. Ben Foster's return will give the hosts some stability down back while it remains to be seen how they will move forward without hard-worker Shane Long. Sessegnon is also due to face a late fitness test. Everton will view this game as opportunity to leapfrog Tottenham and close rivals Liverpool to take the final Champions League place. New recruit Aiden McGeady may feature in the absence of Ross Barkley. Both teams strive to play attractive football but Everton are executing far better than the Baggies at the moment and their combination of possession football and high press should see them take at least 1 point. I tried to sign Lukaku in the summer but Chelsea wanted him to stay, says Laudrup (so what made Jose change his mind?) Swansea manager Michael Laudrup claims he missed out on the chance to sign Everton forward Romelu Lukaku because Chelsea insisted they wanted to keep the Belgian powerhouse. Lukaku has been a sensation since moving to Goodison Park on a season-long loan, scoring eight Premier League goals to propel the Toffees into the battle for Champions League qualification. Swansea had themselves been interested in bringing in Lukaku, who also excelled at West Brom last season, on loan but brought in Wilfried Bony having been told by the Blues that the 20-year-old would be staying at Stamford Bridge. Laudrup said: 'We asked about him. I didn't call again because Chelsea said they wanted to keep him, but maybe I should have called again. 'He is a real talent. He is fast, can use both feet, he is strong, he is good in the air and is good on the counter-attack. 'He has been a huge signing for them.' Anot ...
When Andre Villas-Boas woke up on Tuesday morning, he probably would've had a shred of regret, and wondered why he ever walked into English football. Two jobs at Chelsea and Tottenham, two failures. When his bank statement is ready to be viewed, he may just manage a wry smile. The Portugese boss has collected a staggering £16 million in compensation from his sackings in the Premier League. £12 million from Roman Abramovich at Chelsea, and £4.5 million from Spurs. AVB may be advised to divert himself away from English football, for the sake of his managerial career. If the decision was made based on the health of his bank account, he'll be a permanent fixture in the managerial merry-go-round of the Premier League. He's been linked to the managerial vacancy at West Brom, but he may opt to take time out of the game after spending little time in between his two London jobs. Villas-Boas is not the only one to get a big pay-cheque from Chelsea, with Champions League winner Roberto Di-Matteo still picking up ...

Anderson content to remain patient Manchester United midfielder Anderson is happy to play the waiting game just now – but knows he cannot hang around forever to prove he is worthy of a place at Old Trafford. After an encouraging start to his United career following a move from FC Porto in 2007, picking up Champions League and Premier League medals in his debut campaign, Anderson’s time at the club has been blighted by injury. With well-voiced concerns over his weight, the 25-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular starting slot. He has made only five appearances in total this term, and just one since starting the shock home defeat by West Brom on September 28. That statistic alone seems to indicate new manager David Moyes has little faith in the Brazilian. However, despite reports of a loan deal to Fulham being lined up in January, with a contract that runs to 2015, Anderson is not ready to give up on his United career just yet. “Every single player wants to play every game,” he told the Man ...

'I thought he was going to book Ramires!' Baggies defender Reid reveals disbelief at last minute penalty awarded to Chelsea Steven Reid thought referee Andre Marriner was going to book Chelsea midfielder Ramires for diving instead of pointing to the penalty spot in stoppage time as West Brom were denied a memorable victory at Stamford Bridge. The additional four minutes which had been indicated were already up when Ramires tumbled in the penalty area under what looked a fair shoulder challenge by Reid. Referee Mariner thought otherwise and handed Chelsea a lifeline, which Eden Hazard - back in the side after being dropped for the midweek Champions League game against Schalke - gratefully accepted as he rolled the ball into the bottom corner. Reid, making his first Barclays Premier League start of the season because of injury to Billy Jones, felt West Brom had deserved better. 'When the whistle has gone, I thought he (referee) was going to book him (Ramires) for diving. Ramires has gone to ground really ea ...
Is Ashley another victim of Mourinho's revamping plans?..After more than a decade at the very top Cole could finally be facing life as a sub Not many people at Chelsea enjoyed Saturday’s draw with West Brom. Ashley Cole might have enjoyed it least. The left back was on the bench for the second time in a week, with Cesar Azpilicueta — a right back — replacing him. When Jose Mourinho threatened to shuffle his pack after the poor display against Newcastle, no-one thought Cole would be facing the axe. The feeling ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League victory over Schalke and Saturday’s match was that he must be carrying an injury. But, when pressed if Cole was still feeling the effects of the rib injury that kept him out of England’s vital World Cup qualifiers against Montenegro and Poland last month, Mourinho simply answered: ‘No, he is fine.’ Mourinho, asked about Cole’s second successive omission, said: ‘I can make mistakes, I can be unfair — but I always give a lot of thought to my d ...
Chelsea boss Mourinho decides time to sell Luiz. - Chelsea are inviting January offers for David Luiz. The Mail on Sunday says Luiz was axed for the midweek Champions League win over Schalke and was left on the bench again for the 2-2 draw with West Brom on Saturday, with John Terry and Gary Cahillthe preferred and first-choice pairing. The 26-year-old is hugely popular with the fans but some of the Chelsea players have started to agree with manager Jose Mourinho’s belief the player is too casual and showy. For all his talent, Mourinho feels the rugged edge he likes from his central defenders is missing and he doesn’t see Luiz as an option in the midfield. . ~CHRIS~
HAZARD DROPPED AFTR MISSING TRAINING: Jose Mourinho has described Eden Hazard as a 'kid who made a mistake' after the midfielder was dropped from Chelsea's Champions League squad for missing a training session. Hazard was did not report to Cobham on Monday and was subsequently not named as a starter or a substitute in Chelsea's 3-0 win over Schalke on Wednesday evening. Chelsea are now three points clear at the top of Group E with two matches remaining after a double from Samuel Eto'o and a goal from Demba Ba was enough to see off the German side at Stamford Bridge. When asked about Hazard's situation, Mourinho told reporters: "I don't want to lie. He is not injured. "Did he forget the time? Look, he's a kid. Kids make mistakes and fathers have to be clever in the way they educate their sons. "He didn't play. He wanted to play. He was sad because he didn't play. We won without him." Mourinho has confirmed Hazard will return for the club's fixture against West Brom on Saturday. “On Saturday [against West ...
Chelsea v West Brom: Branislav Ivanovic claims Eden Hazard will learn after being dropped for the Champions League victory over Schalke
Jose Mourinho nets Premier bonus after dodging drama in Europe Chelsea's return to winning ways may have come in Europe but it has given their Premier League hopes the lift they required following the defeat to Newcastle. A point away to Basle in a fortnight, a venue where they won 2-1 in the Europa League seven months ago, is all Chelsea need to guarantee a place in the last 16 of the Champions League. First place in the group should also then be secured with their final game at home to a mediocre Steaua Bucharest outfit. Twelve months ago, Chelsea were struggling and, ultimately, failing to stay in Europe’s premier club competition. The psychological blow of missing out not only ensured the departure of coach Roberto Di Matteo but also affected League form for months. Chelsea were under so much pressure on two fronts back then it took them even longer to recover from their annual November blip and champions Manchester United were out of sight by the time confidence returned. It was assumed things woul ...
Lucas Leiva believes Luis Suarez is a man on a mission to bring Champions League Football back to Anfield. The Uruguay striker doubled his tally for the season when he struck a majestic hat-trick in Saturday's 4-1 thrashing of West Brom. Suarez failed in his attempts to force through a move to Arsenal in the summer, but Lucas insists his current form proves he's fully committed to Brendan Rodgers' side. “Luis is such a special talent,” Lucas told the ECHO. “What he did last season for us and what he's done already this season just shows why the club wanted to keep him so much. “He was the best player in the Premier League last season. We are happy he stayed with us and he's showing every week how committed he is. We all knew he would be. We know he loves what he does and he wants to help the team. “What happened in the summer doesn't matter now. His mind is focused on helping the team achieve great things. YNWA JFT96 (Jason)
LIVE Premier League match alerts to your phone - goals, red cards, half and full time scores Match Preview & Injury news Steve Clarke will be travelling to Anfield in the hope he can repeat the feat against the former club he was once assistant manager of. The Baggies of course don’t have the powerhouse of Romelu Lukaku in their ranks this season, but have proved they have threats elsewhere which has seen them win at Old Trafford against Manchester United as well as taking a draw against Arsenal. Liverpool will be viewing this game as a ‘must win’ given the difficult run of fixtures that they will face in the next two months, and will hope there are no goals conceded from set-pieces this week. Dropping points here could well be a bit of a blow to their credentials for a Champions League place but they have had a good start to the season as they sit 3rd, two points behind Arsenal at the top. West Brom have proved difficult to beat on the road so far this season, and currently sit 12th on ten points. ...
Luis Suarez has hailed his flourishing partnership with Daniel Sturridge and insists Liverpool's dynamic duo can continue to work in perfect harmony. Suarez and Sturridge have scored 17 times in the games they have played together since the England international moved to Anfield in January and Liverpool's ambitions of reaching the top four this season will hinge on how they continue to perform. There were suggestions that they may struggle to be compatible, given Suarez worked so well on his own last season, but those doubts have been dispelled since the Uruguay striker returned from his 10-game ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic last month. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers believes Sturridge and Suarez are the best partnership in the Barclays Premier League and the former Ajax striker feels their increased understanding will give them an edge over their Champions League rivals. 'We are trying for progression,' he said. 'Danny is 24 and I am 26, so we are trying our best to progress for the future of the clu ...
Manager David Moyes has confirmed Robin Van Persie should be fit to return for Manchester United when the Premier League champions entertain Stoke. Van Persie sat out Wednesday's Champions League victory over Real Sociedad with a combination of niggling problems. But it appears the Dutchman's absence will be a brief one. "Robin has a good chance," said Moyes. "He had a problem with his toes and a little bit with his groin. But he has had a little bit of training as well and he should be okay." Moyes confirmed experienced defenders Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand were also progressing well. However, England duo Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley remained on the sidelines. "Danny has fluid on his knee," the Scot said. "Tom is still recovering from his calf." Moyes refused to comment on reports United were set to offer striker Wayne Rooney a contract extension. However, the Scot did admit Rooney was in top form at present. "It's been great working with Wayne because he's an excellent footballer," he said. "I've ...

David Moyes: WE HAVE EXPERIENCE BUT LACK CLASS David Moyes during post-match interview after 2-1 loss to West Brom :" To win the Champions League, you need five or six world-class players-Look at Bayern Munich, they have it- Look at Barcelona, who had it in the past and Real Madrid, who have maybe got it now-That's the level you have to be at to win it-We've not got that yet but what we have got is experience"
Have Arsenal’s blistering start come to an end or is this the beginning of the end of Arsenal’s initial gra-gra, regarding their mirage dream of winning the Premiership this season – to put the trophyless jinx to death? Since Arsenal’s good run of five wins started, the Gunners’ fans have been drumming so much noise in our ears that their darling club Arsenal will break the trophyless jinx this season by winning the Premiership and probably topping it up with the Champions League. West Brom have just ended that trophy dream. After next match, Arsenal would slide to their natural position, struggling for fourth position with the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool and others while the Premiership big boys plot their chart on how to cart away the coveted Premiership prize.
Vidic: We have to perform United skipper Nemanja Vidic believes Saturday's trip to Sunderland is even more important than the Champions League tie against Shakhtar Donetsk. The Reds' schedule after the disappointing defeat to West Brom included two away games in a week before another international break. With a point secured in Ukraine from a 1-1 draw, the Serbian centre-back is determined that the champions defend well again on Wearside. "I think this is actually a more important game," Vidic told ManUtd.com at the Donbass Arena after the game. "Even though it was Shakhtar in the Champions League. "I think we have to perform well at Sunderland, like we did against Shakhtar, in terms of our defending. With the quality we have up front, we are always able to score goals. I think there's no question about that. "But we have to defend right and have the right mentality to ensure we can be in a good position." Shakhtar made life difficult for United in Donetsk but the draw keeps David Moyes' side on top of Gr ...
Arsenal will head into this Sunday’s clash at West Brom full of confidence after a good performance against Napoli in the Champions League. Arsene Wenger couldn’t have asked for more from his team at the start of this season, with the Gunners sitting top of the Premier League with a two point cushion and starting the Champions League in perfect fashion. Wenger has a couple of selection dilemmas ahead of this weekend because Tomas Rosicky was superb on his return to first team action against Napoli and Mikel Arteta looked as though he’s never been out of the side this campaign. Here is the side he may go with ahead of the weekend. GK – Wojciech Szczesny The Polish goalkeeper continues to offer Arsenal a very solid option in goal. He’s working well with the back four in front of him and his distribution seems to be better than ever at the moment, whether he’s feeding the defence or setting up counter attacks. RB – Carl Jenkinson With Bacary Sagna ruled out with a hamstring problem for the next ...
Vidic has faith despite poor start Nemanja Vidic‘s faith in the quality of Manchester United‘s squad has not been shaken by their awful start to the Premier League campaign. The tenure of David Moyes has been a curious affair to date. Of the nine matches United have played under Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor, it could be argued three were impressive, a further four somewhere between decent and average, the remaining two absolutely atrocious. Wednesday night’s Champions League draw with Shakhtar Donetsk falls firmly in the first category, both for the battling qualities United displayed and, importantly, the result, which was the first time in five attempts any English team had avoided defeat in Europe’s most prestigious club competition at the Donbass Arena. Yet, when United head to Sunderland on Saturday evening, they will do so as a team for whom anything but victory would be a calamity following those pitiful Premier League performances against Manchester City and West Brom. “We have to acc ...
Moyes assured financial backing Manchester United are ready to back David Moyes in the transfer market after acknowledging their squad needs strengthening. United are due to fly to Donetsk for a Champions League encounter with Shakhtar that has taken on additional significance following Saturday’s Barclays Premier League defeat by West Brom. The loss was the club’s third in six games this season. It represents their worst start to a league campaign since 1989 and has seen them slide into the bottom half of the table and pushed out to fourth favourites to retain their crown, with the bookmakers believing United will be battling Tottenham for the final Champions League place. This is not quite the transition envisaged in the summer, when Moyes walked into a club fresh from romping to a record 20th league championship by an impressive 11 points. Yet the majority of Red Devils supporters accepted it was a rather flattering outcome, and the squad Moyes inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson had clear deficiencie ...
TRANSFER GOSSIP The Glazer family will give manager David Moyes substantial money to spend in the January transfer window to save Manchester United's season. Man Utd's owners are thought to share Moyes's view that United's squad needs strengthening in key areas and will not balk at spending well in excess of £100m to ensure they remain successful in the coming years. Morgan Amalfitano, on loan from Marseille, can join West Brom permanently for £1.7m Meanwhile, Man Utd are closing in on Austria Under-21 centre-back Martin Hinteregger. The 21-year-old Red Bull Salzburg player is also being monitored by Arsenal, Liverpool and Lazio. Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, 22, is set for a January exit from Chelsea after being axed from their Champions League squad. West Bromwich Albion can seal the signing of on-loan Marseille midfielder Morgan Amalfitano, 28, for just £1.7m. Manchester United’s two most prolific players ever believe it is only a matter of time before Wayne Rooney breaks their goal-scoring records. • Payne: Moyes has questions to answer • Okwonga: West Brom add further furrows to Moyes' brow • Moyes 'disappointed' by whole team The England international brought up a double-century of goals for the club in the 4-2 Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen, and took his tally to 202 with a free-kick in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion. He is now only nine goals behind Jack Rowley, who struck 211 times for United either side of World War II, with just Denis Law (237) and Sir Bobby Charlton (249) ahead of him. And Charlton, the World Cup winner who captained United’s 1968 European Cup-winning side, told United Review: “I've spoken to Wayne and I've told him he's doing really, really well. Fantastically well. I'll lose no sleep over it at all if Wayne beats my record. It will be something else for the club to be proud of.” Law, a team- ...

{ Report: Walcott facing two weeks out } The ‘mysterious’ abdominal strain that kept Theo Walcott from taking his place in the starting line-up against Stoke could keep the winger sidelined for two more weeks according to reports in the The Mirror and Daily Mail. The England international was initially thought to have withdrawn from Saturday’s game due to illness only for Arsene Wenger to reveal after the win that he wasn’t sure of the specifics. “We hope we haven’t lost Walcott for a long time. He has a muscular abdominal problem but I don’t know how serious it is,” said Wenger. “Is it a question of days? I hope so. He had a little problem before the Marseille game and it became a bit worse. “It is a bit mysterious because we don’t really know what it is.” Two weeks on the treatment table would see Walcott miss tomorrow’s Capital One Cup game at West Brom, Saturday’s trip to Swansea and the home Champions League game on Napoli. It also throws into doubt his participation again ...
Arsenal[edit source | editbeta] Alt text Ramsey at the end of the 2008–09 campaign On 10 June 2008 it was confirmed that after meeting officials from Arsenal, Manchester United and Everton, Ramsey had decided to join Arsenal, who paid Cardiff City a total of £4.8 million for the player.[17] The move was completed on 13 June 2008 on what is said to be a long-term contract. The main reason he chose Arsenal ahead of the other clubs that pursued his signature was the approach of Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger, who flew him and his family to Switzerland to talk about the plans Wenger had for him and his potential future with Arsenal.[18] Wenger described Ramsey as "a player with a fantastic engine, good build, good technique and good vision".[19] Ramsey made his competitive début for Arsenal in the Champions League third qualifying round against FC Twente on 13 August 2008 and his league début a month later against Blackburn Rovers on 13 September 2008, marking it with an assist to Emmanuel Adebayor for A ...

Things aren’t going well for Mourinho currently. After back-to-back defeats in the Premier League and Champions League, Jose Mourinho’s honeymoon period at Chelsea has definitely worn off. The boos that could be heard around Stamford Bridge during Wednesday night’s 1-2 loss to FC Basel is testament to this, so here’s what the ‘Special One’ can do to make things special again. 1. PLAY Juan Mata!! OK Jose, we get it, the Spaniard doesn’t have the pace to fit into this new attacking style in West London, but guess what, that tactic isn’t working anyway. DONE DEAL Chelsea have secured their first signing of the season by capturing German International striker Andre Schurrle from BayerLeverkusen. The German has long been tippedto move to Stamford Bridge and according to The Guardian, he hasalready made the big move for a reported fee of £20m. The deal will see Belgian Kevin De Bruyne move the other way for a year for free. Chelsea have suffered this season up front, and even the January purchase of Demba Ba didn’t make much impact and that’s probably all of a sudden Fernando Torres got in form and scored crucial goals, including thewinning goal in the 2-1 Europa Cup victory over Benfica in Amsterdam. Schurrle scored 11 goals and provided seven assists last term to help secure a Third Place finish for his side, resulting in a coveted spot in the Champions League for next term. The return of Romelu Lukaku will add more fire-power up front for the Blues after the Belgian finally adjusted to life in England with brilliant performances with West Brom on lo ...
CHELSEA ARE MAD - Romelu Lukaku is keen on a loan move to Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund next season. Chelsea’s powerful striker has just completed a successful loan spell at West Brom where he scored 17 goals in 35 Premier League appearances. Swansea and West Ham are also interested in the 20-year-old Belgian, who knows his chances at Stamford Bridge could again be limited.

Premier League ROUND UP Blues beat Baggies, United cruise Chelsea eased the pressure on interim manager Rafael Benitez with a victory at home to West Brom, while Manchester United secured a comfortable win over Norwich thanks to a Shinji Kagawa hat-trick. Rafael Benitez risked angering Chelsea fans midweek by telling them they are "wasting time" jeering him instead of backing the team, but he gave them little reason to moan with a 1-0 triumph over West Brom at Stamford Bridge. A solitary strike from Demba Ba lifted the Blues back above Tottenham in third, boosting their hopes of securing Champions League Football. Benitez had been forced to dispute claims of a fall-out with John Terry during the week, but the Chelsea skipper again found himself on the bench alongside Fernando Torres, who made way for Ba. It was the former Newcastle forward who scored the winner from six yards, converting easily after David Luiz nodded Oscar's centre back across goal. It was comfortable thereafter for Chelsea, although mor ...

After dominating for much of the game, the Reds wasted a chance to score as Steven Gerrard's penalty was saved by Ben Foster and the Baggies took advantage as Gareth McAuley and Romelu Lukaku struck late on. Brendan Rodgers was forced into making one change from the XI that took a point away from Manchester City, with Jonjo Shelvey coming in for the injured Daniel Sturridge while for West Brom, Liam Ridgewell and Youssouf Mulumbu returned. Jose Enrique now understands the method in Brendan Rodgers’ madness. The Liverpool left-back admits he was furious when Rodgers questioned his commitment to the cause in an early-season blast also felt by Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson. But all three players have met the challenge thrown down by the Reds boss to force themselves into his team as he plots a late charge for Champions League qualification. And, with Liverpool facing West Brom at Anfield tomorrow night, Enrique said: “When the manager said what he did, of course I was angry. It had never happened to me before and it was not good that he said his comments in the press. “But I thought to myself, ‘Okay, now I have something to prove and I must train even harder’. “I didn’t want to be finished at Liverpool. I wanted to stay here and play under the manager. “It was not nice to read what he said, but I tried to take it in a good way and do my best. I still don’t think the manager did it the right way. “He should have spoke ...

After Liverpool's 3-0 win over Sunderland, Liverpool advanced to 8th in the Premier League table. Liverpool are now two points ahead of Swansea City and Stoke City, who're currently sitting in 9th & 10th. Liverpool are two points behind West Brom, three points behind Arsenal (although Arsenal have a game in hand) and five points behind Everton. Liverpool are seven points behind a Champions League spot (Chelsea who're currently there) but Chelsea have a game in hand. Liverpool are eight points behind Tottenham, who currently sit 3rd. What we need to look at exactly is Everton, Swansea, Stoke City & West Brom's next fixture. Everton Vs Swansea (we need to hope for a draw to be honest). Stoke City Vs Chelsea (We could hope for a draw in this game if we still believe we can get this Champions League spot). Reading Vs West Brom (Has a West Brom victory all-over it but let's hope Reading can plunger something). Liverpool travel to Old Trafford in their next game, which is a really difficult match. (D.M)
FOOTBALL:- [EPL] Shinji Kagawa is set to make the Manchester United bench for Saturday's match against West Brom. The summer signing from Borussia Dortmund has been out since October 23 when he suffered a knee injury during a Champions League tie against Braga. He was expected to only be out for four weeks but suffered a setback in his recovery and has not featured since. However, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he could make the bench for Saturday's game against West Brom. "Shinji Kagawa wanted to do a warm-up and training on the pitch and he is getting close," Sir Alex Ferguson said at a press conference. "I'll see what he's like today and I could maybe put him on the bench tomorrow depending on who is available." The 70-year-old also revealed that he expects both Danny Welbeck and Ashley Young to return on Saturday to give his side some needed fresh legs, although he did confirm striker Wayne Rooney still faces time on the sidelines whilst defender Phil Jones may miss out too. ...
Aston Villa 0-4 Tottenham: Brilliant Bale hat-trick moves Spurs up to fourth Spurs leapfrogged Arsenal, West Brom and Everton to climb into the Champions League spots with Jermain Defoe also on target in the emphatic win at Villa Park Tottenham made it a Christmas to forget for Aston Villa as they condemned their hosts to a second defeat in four days with a 4-0 victory. Spurs enjoyed large spells of pressure in the first half but were unable to break the Villa resolve; however a second half hat-trick from Gareth Bale and a Jermain Defoe strike punished some sloppy defending to seal all three points for Andre Villas-Boas’ side. Villa made three changes to side that were battered by Chelsea as Eric Lichaj, Barry Bannan and Andreas Weimann are replaced by Joe Bennett, Karim El Ahmadi and Fabian Delph. Spurs made two changes to their defence as Michael Dawson and Steven Caulker both dropped to the bench with William Gallas and Kyle Naughton taking their places in the starting line-up. Visitors dominated the ...

Champions League: I was thinking more West Brom and Caley Thistle... :-)
West Brom striker Osaze Odemwingie knows securing a Uefa Champions League place is unlikely but insists ‘all things are possible in football’.
The biggest English Premier League game of the weekend is undoubtedly the Chelsea vs Manchester City matchup at Stamford Bridge in London today, November 25th. Chelsea will be hoping their home advantage & new coach earn them all the three points at stake. Both teams are coming off a disappointing week in the Champions League. Man City was held to a 1-1 home draw against Real Madrid which ultimately condemned them to the less prestigious EuropaCup while Chelsea were handed a lesson in goal scoring in Turin where they fell 3-0 to Italian champions, Juventus. City hasn’t lost a game in the league yet and go into this game in second place with 28 points from eight wins and four draws. Chelsea also come into this match sitting in fourth place just behind West Brom. They have seven wins, three draws and two losses in league play. A win against City here would put them right back in the middle of the title race after having only managed to earn two points in their last four league matches. In their last 10 me ...
3-1 Brom answers, especially doing it away, sign of a good side. Steve Clarke manager of the year so far, definitely. Not surely, not maybe, definitely. Reminds me of George Burley at Ipswich Town some years back when he took them to 5th after getting promoted, except West Brom have been established for a while. It's not time to imagine blokes like Odemwingie and Shane Long in the Champions League is it?
West Bromwich Albion striker Peter Odemwingie says fans shouldn't write off a top four tilt this season. Odemwingie laughs like everyone else when asked if West Brom can qualify for the Champions League this season. But then he remembers how people did the same when he joined French club Lille eight years ago and turned a similar fantasy into reality.
(continued) The ramifications of that loss continue to rumble on, however, with the club alleging referee Mark Clattenburg using inappropriate language towards John Obi Mikel, with the Football Association forced to investigate. NOVEMBER 2012 And so to November and the final days of Di Matteo's reign. A 3-2 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk was the Italian's sole victory in the month with disappointing draws against Swansea and Liverpool sowing seeds of discontent. A defeat at West Brom last time out was not the way Di Matteo would have wanted his side to prepare for their trip to Turin and so it proved with the Blues beaten 3-0 defeat in Juventus. That loss made it two defeats out of two, left the club's Champions League hopes hanging by a thread, and most importantly proved to be the final straw for Abramovich. With Di Matteo now gone, the early favourites to replace the Italian are Rafael Benitez and Harry Redknapp as, for now, the saga continues. Best of Luck 2 chelsea in all dia future endeavours
Let's not feel too sorry for Di Matteo. The man essentially rode the crest of a gargantuan wave of good fortune and ended up an improbably Champions League winner. His managerial experience up until last season consisted of a spell at MK Dons followed by an unsuccessful spell at West Brom. Never had the experience or the talent for such a high profile role.
So that's that, then. Roberto Di Matteo bites the dust at Chelsea. And if you can find the logic in it, you're a better man than me. They say it's a "results business." And most likely, Chelsea will become the first defending Champions League winner ever to go out at the group stage following the 3-0 defeat at Juventus on Tuesday night. But if you buy this "results" line then it's equally true that Di Matteo came in and rescued a wayward season and delivered Chelsea its first ever Champions League crown. Not just that; he also won the Fa Cup. And sure, Chelsea had good fortune on their side in overcoming Barcelona and Bayern Munich on their way to the big one. But it's also true that they weren't exactly lucky in their recent Premier League outings against West Brom, Liverpool and Manchester United. The Blues could easily have had another four points from those three games, in which case they'd be top of the table. Would Di Matteo have gotten the boot then?
Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo is considering whether to drop striker Fernando Torres ahead of the Blues' crunch Champions League clash with Juventus tomorrow. It was deja vu for one of football's most trigger-happy club today as Di Matteo became the latest Blues manager to face serious questions about his job security following a slump in results. And defeat in tomorrow night's huge Group E encounter in Turin could lead to his exit. Speculation is rife Di Matteo has finally lost patience with Torres after hauling him off during Saturday's Barclays Premier League defeat at West Brom after another miserable performance. The Chelsea boss admitted after the game he would consider dropping the Spain striker but said tonight: ``I'm not going to disclose my ideas about tomorrow. ``I'll make the final decisions tonight.'' Ashley Cole should return after recovering from his hamstring injury, as should several other rested players but John Terry (knee) and Frank Lampard (calf) were left in London. Defeat would lea ...
Di Matteo plans defensive game against juventus as he plans to drop torres Posted: 18 Nov 2012 11:59 PM PST Stamford Bridge manager Roberto Di Matteo has hinted he is ready to drop misfiring striker Fernando Torres for Tuesday night’s crucial Champions League game against Juventus in Turin. Torres to be sidelined against Juve The Blues’ defence of their European title is on the line as they battle to keep their fate in Group E in their own hands against Serie A leaders Juve and it seems Di Matteo is ready to give Daniel Sturridge the lone striker role after Torres’ latest disappointing show in Saturday’s defeat against West Browmich Albion. Torres lasted just 63 minutes before Di Matteo withdrew him from the firing line at the Hawthorns and he looks set to resume the bench-warming duties, that became his staple diet last season, in Chelsea’s biggest game of the campaign so far. “If I believe it is the right thing to do for the team, then yeah, I will leave him out,” Di Matteo said. “When w ...
WAR CRY ... Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo Rob tells Blues to carry on fighting From MARK IRWIN in Turin Published: 1 hr ago 4 Roberto Di Matteo has told his warring Chelsea stars to carry on arguing after Saturday’s dressing-room row at The Hawthorns. The Blues will virtually be out of the Champions League if they lose at Juventus tonight and under- fire boss Di Matteo said: “Saturday wasn’t the first time there have been raised voices in the dressing room and I have always encouraged the players to express themselves. “We demand a lot of ourselves and we were very disappointed and frustrated with the defeat at West Brom. “So it was good to see the way the players reacted. We don’t want people to accept poor performances. “It’s important we communicate with each other and now it’s important we show the commitment that is necessary for the game we have to play against Juventus.” Centre-half Gary Cahill was equally candid about the heated inquest at West Brom. He said: “In the short s ...

Champions League - Luiz looks to bounce back at Juve Chelsea defender David Luiz insists he and his team-mates have to let go their anger at losing to West Brom on Saturday and focus instead on Tuesday night's vital Champions League match away to Juventus.
West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie made it a miserable return to the Hawthorns for Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo with a second-half winner to stun the Champions League holders.
Roberto Di Matteo would like Radamel Falcao and his focus will be a striker in January’s transfer window. Chelsea have been linked with the Atletico Madrid player, who has a £48million release clause in his contract. Speaking about the 26-year-old Colombian international ahead of today’s trip to West Brom, Di Matteo said: “Falcao is one of the best strikers, probably, in European and world football. “His ratio of goals per game is quite impressive, not just this season but over the last three years, at Porto and Atletico Madrid. “If you ask any manager, he’d have him in his team. But we don’t really comment on transfer rumours or speculation. Whatever we do we’ll keep it behind closed doors.” The love is mutual. Falcao could not have made his feelings clearer about a possible move to the Premier League, saying: “Chelsea are champions of Europe and there is not much more to say than that. “Even after winning the Champions League, they still go and sign players of the highest quality. ...

Liverpool away Date, time and coverage: Sunday 23 September, 13:30 BST kick-off. Live TV coverage on Sky Sports. Live text and radio commentary on ManUtd.com. Form guide: Manchester United travel to Anfield on the back of three consecutive Barclays Premier League victories and Wednesday’s winning return to the Champions League against Galatasaray. In contrast, Liverpool are enduring their worst start to a domestic campaign in 100 years, claiming just two points from four top-flight matches. However, the Merseyside men were dealt a tough hand by the fixture list, having faced tricky home ties against Manchester City and Arsenal, plus testing trips to Sunderland and West Brom. They've fared better in the Europa League, winning two-legged qualifiers against Belarussian club Gomel and Scottish side Hearts before beating Young Boys 5-3 in Switzerland in Thursday night's group-stage opener. Last meeting: Luis Suarez's refusal to shake hands with Patrice Evra overshadowed a crucial 2-1 home victory for United ...
Football:Luis Suarez cannot deliver the goals Liverpool need to propel them to success, says Gary McAllister. After a 3-0 opening day defeat by West Brom, McAllister said his old side must become more clinical in front of goal, or suffer like last season. But he does not think they can rely on the Uruguayan, 25, to do that. "Suarez is a fantastic player, but I don't know if he is a natural goalscorer, somebody like a Michael Owen," said the Scot. Liverpool missed several good chances at West Brom as Brendan Rodgers's first league game in charge ended in defeat. "The players have got to put away the chances being created," former Reds midfielder McAllister told BBC Sport. "That was the big thing last year - an inability to put away chances when they were dominating games." Suarez was Liverpool's main culprit at The Hawthorns, spurning a number of opportunities. The forward scored 11 goals in 31 league outings last season and has 21 goals in 54 appearances since joining from Ajax in January 2011 for £22.7m ...
13.11 BST: Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini said his players have been unsettled by the constant rumours of financial problems - with Santi Cazorla one such player who may move to Arsenal. Am sure they would be keen, but the idea of him returning to the south coast, giving up Champions League Football and about £50,000-a-week in the process seems a little far fetched. 11.25 BST: West Brom will step up their hunt for Cristian Zapata after it was confirmed he is heading for the Villarreal exi ...

Roberto Di Matteo: sacked by West Brom in 2011, wins the Champions League with Chelsea a year later. Surely a quicker rise
Saturday night, Chelsea FC won the Uefa Champions League which is undoubtedly the most prestigious championship after the World Cup. This victory seems far-fetched especially when you consider that this same team comprising of Didier Drogba, Lampard, John Terry, Fernando Torres, Ashley Cole, Salomon Kalou, Flourent Malouda and others was generally derided as aging some few months back and some concluded that the club would never be able to win any laurel- at least not this season. AVB came on with much promise. At just 33 years, he was a protégé of Jose Mourinho having worked with him at Porto and Inter Milan. Though he had no experience as a professional player but he achieved some measure of success having won the Europa League. Roberto Di Matteo on the other hand is 42 years, was a professional player (even played for Chelsea) but his greatest coaching highlight was leading West Brom from the English Championship (Second Division) to the Premiership. He was subsequently fired after a terrible run of ...

The only good thing about Chelsea winning Champions League is being able to picture Harry Redknapp smashing his house up and kicking the dog that kept him out of jail!! Manchester City yesterday lifted d EPL shield after waiting for 44 yrs. It was exciting seeing d "noisy neighbours" celebrating their victory, if not 4 anything else, at least 4 d sake of change. West Bromwich 2 vs 3 Arsenal West Brom 2-3 Arsenal: Koscielny completes dramatic turnaround as Gunners secure third position. The Gunners spoil Roy Hodgson's final game in charge of the Baggies as they take a vital win in their efforts to secure Champions League Football for next season The first half began in frenetic fashion as the Gunners took the lead through Yossi Benayoun taking advantage of Marton Fulop’s error in goal. However, the Baggies hit back through goals from Shane Long and Graham Dorrans, before Andre Santos benefited from another Fulop error and made the score 2-2, all within half an hour. By contrast, the second period was a lot calmer and saw both sides defend doggedly without creating many clear chances. Yet another Fulop error, this time from a corner, handed Laurent Koscielny the chance to give Arsenal the lead, which he took gratefully.
