Premier League Paper Round: City in for Draxler, Spurs to cash in on Lloris Manchester City may make a January move for Julian Draxler, Spurs will cash in on Hugo Lloris and all the other transfer news from today’s papers. City to fight for Draxler: Manchester City will make a move for Arsenal target Julian Draxler, according to the Daily Star. Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester United live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch the EPL online : Source: SBNation.com – All Posts:– Sunday’s early Premier League kickoff sees Spurs play host to Manchester United. Manchester United got off to a wobbly start to the season, though the Red Devils have quickly found form and now look like a dangerous Premier League side once again. Heading into Saturday’s game away at Tottenham Hotspur, Louis van Gaal’s outfit sit comfortably in a Champions League spot, three points clear of fourth-placed Southampton, and four of West Ham United. However, though Spurs are down in a rather underwhelming seventh place heading into the round, they are only a couple of points adrift of the final Champions League qualification place. Three consecutive wins — though far from hardly convincing, as is Spurs’ wont — have moved Mauricio Pochettino’s side up into the European mix, and with home advantage, they may well fancy their chances of nicking a result. Ke ...
host Hull, Arsenal face Magpies Jose Mourinho expects Chelsea to make amends for their first defeat of the season when the Premier League leaders host Hull on Saturday. Mourinho's side saw their 23-match unbeaten run in all competitions come to a surprise end with a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle last weekend. The loss allowed second placed Manchester City to close within three points of the Blues. But Chelsea quickly got back to winning ways against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League in midweek and Mourinho is confident his players will maintain their recovery by seeing off struggling Hull at Stamford Bridge. "The response is to play well and to try to win every game. It's what we are doing since the beginning of the season," Mourinho said. "Results are results, but what can we do more than we are doing? "Playing very, very well. Not one single bad performance, good spirit, good individual performances. "You cannot be better than first in the Premier League, top of the league in the group phase and quarter ...
Real Madrid interested in Hugo Lloris Real Madrid are believed to favour a move for Tottenham Hotspur's Hugo Lloris over a swoop for Manchester United's David De Gea. The European champions are apparently searching for a new first-choice goalkeeper after becoming concerned by the dipping form of Iker Casillas. They have been linked with both Premier League stoppers, and The Express claims that they are ready to prioritise a move for Lloris as they see him as a more realistic target. De Gea, 24, would reportedly be reluctant to leave United after emerging as a key player for the Red Devils, but Lloris may seek a way out of Spurs should they not qualify for the Champions League this season. The France captain, who moved to White Hart Lane from Lyon for £11m in 2012, is also believed to be a target for Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco. Casillas is contracted to Real until 2017 and currently has Costa Rica star Keylor Navas for competition.
FIFA Ballon d'Or 2014 The FIFA Ballon d'Or trophy Gareth Bale WALES In his debut Real Madrid season Gareth Bale helped the Spanish giants to the season they have long been waiting for, as they finally sealed their tenth Uefa Champions League title. Putting them ahead for the first time on the night, it was the last of 22 goals in an impressive first year. His memorable strike to clinch the Copa del Rey against old foes Barcelona, alongside 15 assists, ensured the Welshman made a spectacular impact at the Santiago Bernabeu following his transfer of more than €90m from Tottenham Hotspur, with a UEFA Super Cup win adding to his success. Karim Benzema FRANCE It seems an age since Karim Benzema went 1,222 minutes without notching a goal for France. That unenviable run came to a welcome end in October 2013 and since then, the Real Madrid forward has rediscovered his scoring touch on the international stage. Recognised as France’s principal attacking threat during the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ in Brazil, where ...
If Tottenham Hotspur start to work hard they can qualify for Top 4 this season and back to the Champions League
Madrid have confirmed on their official website that Gareth Bale has suffered a hip injury, placing him in doubt for this week's Champions League match versus Liverpool and the Liga game against Barcelona at the weekend. Bale was already left on the bench during Madrid 's 5-0 win over Levante on Saturday and he now looks set for a spell on the sidelines. "After Gareth Bale was tested by Real Madrid's Sanitas health services, he has been diagnosed with an injury in the right piriformis muscle," a club statement reads. Bale has developed into a key figure at Madrid ever since joining the Santiago Bernabeu side since joining them from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2013. The Welshman netted 22 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions last term, including one in the 4-1 Champions League final win over Atletico Madrid in Lisbon. He has scored five goals in 12 games so far in 2014-15 season.

Barcelona's attack next season :- Rakitic-Iniesta Messi-Suarez-Neymar FIFA should just hand over the La Liga to them. Along with Champions League, English Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A too. [ No Ligue 1 though. ..Ibrahimovic.. Respect bro! ] Anyway, it's time to say goodbye to one of the greatest players I have witnessed. Luis Suarez. Thank you for your services to LIVERPOOL Football Club. He did his part. Contributed a lot to bring back Champions League football to this club . But as I have always said, there are over 20 teams, who doesn't have Luis Suarez but are better than us. Why? Because they have a squad of 11 MAIN MAN. Liverpool fans are afraid we won't be able to replace Suarez. Well ofcourse, we won't be able to bring in a striker who will be able to replace Suarez. But we will make a team that will distribute the scoring chances among the attacking players and defend better. Luis Suarez scored 31 goals last season. Maybe we will bring a player who will score just 15 goals instead of 31. S ...
Mauricio Pochettino, Southampton's manager, is poised to take over at Tottenham Hotspur with the London club now accepting that the Argentine is the best option to fill their vacant Head Coach role. The Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, had been told before Saturday's Champions League final that Carlo Ancelotti was not an option, whether Real Madrid won the game or not. Frank de Boer, the Ajax manager, remains the back-up candidate to Pochettino but Spurs went cold on him after he spoke publicly about their approach. Taking over at Spurs will cap a remarkable 16 months in the Premier League for Pochettino, who took over at Southampton in January last year on a contract that expires at the end of next season. There is hope at Tottenham that the former Espanyol coach will be capable of working in tandem with a director of football, the position currently held by Franco Baldini. Another factor in his favour is that he is regarded as a prime candidate to coax the best out of fellow Argentine Erik Lamela, the club' ...

In the Sunday Telegraph: "Tottenham will make one final check to see whether Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is interested in becoming their new manager before making their move for Southampton's Mauricio Pochettino next week." - I just won the Copa del Rey and Champions League titles, coaching players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, and Iker Casillas, writing my name indelibly into club history. I'd love to come coach Tottenham Hotspur! Said nobody. Ever.
Mohamed Salah had high praise for Cesar Azpilicuetain an interview for Chelseayesterday. In January Chelsea made some changes. The end result was the departures of Juan Mata and Kevin De Bruyne - and the arrivals of Nemanja Matic and Mohamed Salah. In the case of the latter, once again Chelsea stole him from underneath the nose of a Premier Leaguerival. In the summer they snatched Willian from the grasp of Tottenham Hotspur - in January it was Liverpool’s. For much of the winter it looked as if Liverpool were on the verge of snapping up the Egyptian but Chelsea swooped in and signed him up instead. His first half a season at the club have been predictably quiet. He has settled into life in London well but for the most part has been used as a substitute at the club. Of course much of the impressing Salah did that made Mourinho splash out on him was against Chelsea in their Champions League ties this season. The Egyptian scored against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, a game the Swiss side won 2-1 when Marco S ...
Liverpool keen on double Premier League signing The Reds want to sign both Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren Liverpool are reportedly planning a £40million double swoop for Southampton duo Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren. The Reds are keen to bulk up their squad ahead of next season as they prepare for life back in the Champions League after their second-place finish, and Brendan Rodgers is keen to do business early. Rodgers is a big fan of Saints midfielder, Lallana, and he is willing to pay up to £25million for the Englishmen, who is preparing for his first ever World Cup after being called up by Roy Hodgson. Reports suggested that Liverpool offered £20m for the playmaker, but Southampton are keen to hold out for at least £25m after he starred in their season throughout. Manager Mauricio Pochettino is desperate to keep hold of his star-assets, and it's believed if the club fail to keep hold of them, the Argentine will also jump ship, with Tottenham Hotspur waiting to pounce after sacking Tim Sherwood. Full time at St Mary's Stadium, and Everton's hopes of Champions League football have all but gone up in smoke, and its was quite literally by their own heads as Southampton wins 2-0, thanks to two Everton own goals. Antolin Alcaraz and Seamus Coleman's first half clangers was enough to see the Saints take the three points and equal their highest points haul in their Premier League history in what has been an over-achieving season under Mauricio Pochettino. For Everton, they remain a point behind Arsenal in 5th place, with the Gunners still to play against Newcastle United on Monday night. We move on in Barclays Premier League action, and we head to the Britannia Stadium as Stoke City host Tottenham Hotspur. Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp is clearly a much coveted figure as Barcelona, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur all show interest in the German. The Red Devils have been linked with the 46-year-old for some time and with David Moyes having had a disappointing first season in charge at Old Trafford, the Mirror reports the Premier League champions are lining up Klopp as a replacement. Whilst Louis van Gaal has also been linked with the potential post at United, it's understood that the Dortmund boss is the No.1 choice having led the club to successive Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012 and the Champions League final last year. Read more Man United news here! Yet despite this success Klopp is constantly having to deal with rivals Bayern Munich poaching his best players - with Mario Goetze having made the £31.5m move last summer and Robert Lewandowski also heading to the Allianz Arena at the end of this term. UPDATE: Liverpool attacker Luis Suarez continues to lead the race for the European Golden Shoe with a one-goal lead over second-placed Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, but Lionel Messi’s fine form for Barcelona in recent weeks has seen last year’s winner storm into the top three. Suarez proved unable to find the net in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over West Ham United, while Ronaldo sat out Madrid’s victory over Real Sociedad. Meanwhile, Messi added two goals to his tally as Barcelona thumped Betis 3-1 at the weekend and has now closed the gap with Suarez to four, level with Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa. Patrice Evra has backed Manchester United to surprise holders Bayern Munich and progress to the Uefa Champions League semi-finals. United and Bayern won their respective domestic leagues last season, though the fortunes of the two European giants have contrasted vastly this term. Tottenham Hotspur's rapidly unravelling season took another twist today with first team coach Tim Sherwood set to be repla ...
A quick morning update, and i suppose if you are a Liverpool supporters, this morning was a good morning to wake up. The Reds are top of the Barclays Premier League after a 4-0 demolition of Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield. The big win puts them two points clear of Chelsea, though Manchester City are lurking in third with two matches in hand. The win also helped local rivals Everton, who now have a 4 point lead on Spurs in 5th, and with a match in hand, are within striking distance of a Champions League spot. Meanwhile, the less mentioned about Australia's World T20 campaign the better, but they have suffered a humiliating 73-run loss to India overnight to remain winless in the tournament. India set the Australians at target of 160, however fell well short as they were bowled out for 86. There is a slim mathematical chance of semi final qualification with one match remaining against the hosts Bangladesh, but the cause is as good as gone. That's all for now, be back if any major stories break, as well as scor ...

Spurs v Arsenal Live Today @ The Gander Inn From 3:30pm North London rivalries will be rekindled today as Tottenham Hotspur welcome Arsenal to White Hart Lane for derby day. There will be plenty riding on an encounter between two fierce foes, with both chasing targets set out at the start of the season. Spurs' ambition this term was to secure a return to the Uefa Champions League, and they sit four points adrift of the top four at present. They can ill afford any more slip-ups if they are to stand any chance of staging a late surge into Europe's premier club competition as they have already played at least one game more than the three sides sat directly above them.
Arsenal dealt Ramsey blow With a growing injury list manager Arsene Wenger had hoped Ramsey, Arsenal's star performer earlier in the season, would be fit for Sunday's vital North London derby at Tottenham Hotspur. "We have had to defer his comeback to full training a little so he is not available," Wenger said on Thursday. "He is having difficulties in the final stages of his rehab. It looks to be short-term." Record signing Mesut Ozil is also ruled out with a hamstring injury sustained in the Champions League defeat exit against Bayern Munich in midweek. Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere are also long-term absentees, putting a huge strain on Arsenal's resources as they try and stay in the Premier League title race. "(Ozil) is out. I don't know for how long but it is a hamstring injury. There are scans going on," Wenger said. By the time third-placed Arsenal face Spurs on Sunday they could find themselves 10 points behind leaders Chelsea who are in action against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Arsenal title blow: Wenger confirms Ozil out for ‘a few weeks’ talkSPORT Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil Arsenal’s hopes of winning the Premier League have been further dented by the news Mesut Ozil will miss ‘a few weeks’ with a serious hamstring injury. The Gunners star, who was signed in the summer from Real Madrid for £42.5million, has struggled for form in the second-half of the season, but a bright display against Everton in the FA Cup had boosted his spirits.Ozil, 25, though, was substituted at half-time of Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, which ended in a 1-1 draw on the night and a 3-1 defeat on aggregate. And he will now definitely miss the Gunners’ clash with rivals Tottenham Hotspur, and possibly several other matches as they attempt to win the Premier League ahead of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool. "[Mesut Ozil] has a hamstring problem that looks quite serious," Wenger said. "I don't know [how long he will be out for], but for sure ...

Robert Pires was signed by Arsenal for £6 million in 2000, after stiff competition from Real Madrid and Juventus, replacing Marc Overmars, who had left for Barcelona for a record £25 million. Initially, Pirès' form was indifferent, and some people criticised him after his comments that the English game was too physical. However, he slowly began to regain the form he had shown at Metz, scoring a superb solo goal against Lazio in the 2000–01 Champions League, and the winner against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-finals. However, Arsenal went on to lose the Cup final to Liverpool 2–1. By 2001–02, Bobby had fully got to grips with the English game and had one of his best seas ...

So Liverpool has been incredible compared to recent years but can they achieve a Champions League place? Imo, yes they can and here is why. HOME FORM. Liverpool’s home form has been superb this season losing only one game this year, the reds have won 85% of their home games this season and it could continue. The last league game at home was a shining example of how powerful we have been at home demolishing Arsenal 5-1. Liverpool’s record of 85% wins at home is miles ahead of the away wins percentage of 38%. With all this said we still have many games against top sides in the Premier League at home and with Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling in hot form we can take a lot of points in them games. Liverpool will face Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Chelsea at home, can they win them? , Of course they can. PLAYERS HOME PERFORMANCES. Luis Suarez has contributed so much at Anfield this season scoring 16 goals in 10 appearances at home but also assisting 4 times. Daniel Sturridge has 8 goals in 9 appearan ...
Liverpool kept their top-four ambitions alive with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Fulham on Wednesday, but match-winner Steven Gerrard acknowledged they cannot afford to keep giving away goals if they want to play in Europe next season. Gerrard converted a last-minute penalty after Sascha Riether sent Daniel Sturridge tumbling at Craven Cottage, keeping the Reds in fourth spot, three ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in the race for a place in the Champions League. Liverpool were worthy winners but made victory difficult for themselves, giving away two goals to the Premier League's bottom club which forced them to come from behind twice. A comical own goal from Kolo Toure gave Fulham an early lead, before a stunning Gerrard pass allowed Sturridge to level matters just before halftime. Kieran Richardson pounced on a poor clearance from Martin Skrtel to take back the advantage for the hosts just after the hour mark, and after Philippe Coutinho drew Liverpool level for the second time Gerrard finished the comeback fro ...

Bent denies United, Spurs sink Everton 09 February 2014, 20:06 An injury-time goal from Fulham's Darren Bent inflicted more pain on champions Manchester United as the bottom club rescued a 2-2 Premier League draw on Sunday, adding fuel to the fire for manager David Moyes's critics. It was a further blow to United's hopes of securing Champions League football next season and left them nine points behind Liverpool in fourth spot and six adrift of Tottenham Hotspur who beat Everton 1-0 with a goal from Emmanuel Adebayor. Late strikes from Robin Van Persie and Michael Carrick helped United cancel out Steve Sidwell's opener and evoked some of the never-say-die attitude that characterised former manager Alex Ferguson's long spell at the club. However, the uncertainty that has plagued the new regime came back to bite them as Fulham substitute Bent headed in at the far post to nick a point in the 94th minute. "Today was as bad as it gets," a shell- shocked Moyes told Sky Sports television. "We dominated the game. ...

Stoke City enjoyed a first league win over Manchester United since Boxing Day 1984 after Charlie Adam's double clinched a 2-1 victory at the Britannia Stadium. The 27-year-old Columbian has been at the centre of much speculation following impressive performances in Serie A, but with Inter Milan standing little chance of a top three finish this campaign Guarin could be tempted to switch the San Siro for White Hart Lane where the prospect of Champions League football next season seems more likely. However with Christian Eriksen hitting form following a return from injury and with Erik Lamela and Gylfi Sigurðsson vying for a first team place, one could assume that Guarin would add little more than depth to what is arguably Spurs’ strongest position at present. The Columbian is a gifted playmaker blessed with fine technique and lethal passing. Considered to be one of the most creative players currently playing in Serie A, it may be this particular asset that is drawing the attention of Sher ...

Henry James "Harry" Redknapp (born 2 March 1947) is a former English footballer who is currently manager of Football League Championship club Queens Park Rangers.[3] He has had a long career in football management starting in 1983 with Bournemouth. He previously managed Bournemouth, West Ham United, Portsmouth (twice), Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur. While in his second spell at Portsmouth, he managed the side that won the 2008 FA Cup.[4] At the conclusion of the 2009–10 season he guided Tottenham into the Uefa Champions League for the very first time.[5] Redknapp subsequently oversaw Spurs' progress to the last 16 of that tournament when defeating German side Werder Bremen at home.[6] They were the only new club to have qualified for the next stage of the competition[7] and went on to top their group ahead of holders Inter Milan,[8] before defeating AC Milan over two legs to reach the quarter-finals.[9] His son, Jamie Redknapp, played under him at Bournemouth and Southampton. How Arsenal Will Line Up Against Newcastle United After a satisfying and necessary comeback victory over West Ham, Arsenal will get right back into action during the busy New Year's period with a trip to Newcastle. The extraordinary 4-4 draw at St. James' Park a couple years ago will always be seared into Arsenal fans' minds, but it was at that stadium in May, on the final day of last season, that the Gunners clinched a Champions League berth at the expense of Tottenham Hotspur. That success sprung Arsenal to their current position at the top of the table, and certainly enabled the signing of Mesut Ozil, who has been the biggest single story of Arsenal's year. The club has been in pole position in the Premier League for almost 100 days now, and it will need to pick up three points against Newcastle to remain there. Only three points separate first-placed Arsenal from fourth- placed Liverpool. Newcastle, in sixth place, are only six points behind. Here's how Arsene Wenger might set up his team to keep up w ...
Match Preview: Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool Super Sunday main event features Tottenham Hotspur taking on Liverpool. Two in-form teams who badly want to get into the Champions League. However the much needed Left back Danny Rose along with Christian Eriksen and Vlad Chiriches could make a comeback to the Premier League. Liverpool will be without their Captian Steven Gerrard and forward Daniel Sturridge. Andre Villas Boas agreed that stopping Liverpool striker Luis Suarez would be a top priority in the game. Suarez has scored 6 goals in the last 2 games. Another battle we could see is the battle of Brazillians, with Coutinho and Lucas Leiva taking on Sandro and Paulinho. The positive news for Spurs being their hitman Roberto Soldado who finally found his form scoring a hattrick against Anzhi in Europa. Transfer news : Manchester United step up chase for Internazionale midfielder Fredy Guarin. Manchester United manager David Moyes has reportedly sent out representatives to watch Internazionale's Fredy Guarin ahead of making a January offer for the midfielder. The 27-year-old has been identified as the player needed to bolster Moyes' struggling midfield, in which he has largely played 40-year-old Ryan Giggs and centre-back Phil Jones in the middle of this season. Guarin is well known to one current Premier League manager - Tottenham Hotspur's Andre Villas-Boas, having won the treble under him at Porto in 2011. The Colombian can also play in the Champions League knockout stages, as Inter finished ninth in Serie A last season. Guarin joined Inter from Porto for £9m in May 2012, turning his loan deal permanent. It was been reported that Inter could be open to an offer of £15m for the midfielder

1) Arsenal must now repeat Liverpool performance at Old Trafford One of the principle narrative strands before Arsenal took on Liverpool at Emirates Stadium ran loosely along the following lines: Arsenal had yet to play any contenders in the Premier League, apart from Tottenham Hotspur at home, and their start had actually compared unfavourably to the points that they took from the corresponding fixtures last season. Moreoever, when they faced Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League and Chelsea in the Capital One Cup, they had lost. Defeat to Liverpool would have led to a forensic examination of their credentials against the fancied clubs and, doubtless, plenty of angst. But Arsenal won, they won really well and now, the whispers are about whether they might stay the title course. They would become louder if they got a result at Manchester United on Sunday. This is a time of palpable excitement for Gooners. • Arsenal 2-0 Liverpool: read the match report 2) Are Norwich waiting in the wings for Mackay? ...
SA players abroad Posted: 28 October 2013 Thulani Serero started for Ajax Amsterdam again, Darren Keet kept it clean, but Bongani Khumalo and Dean Furman experienced a drubbing in European action at the weekend. After his start in the Uefa Champions League in midweek, it looks as though Serero has nailed down the starting position previously held by Cristian Eriksen before his departure to Tottenham Hotspur. Serero's side were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at home by bottom side RKC Waalwijk, but remain second in the table. Kamohelo Mokotjo has been a regular all season for PEC Zwolle and played again as they lost 2-0 at home to AZ Alkmaar. Dino Ndlovu was a late substitute for Israeli side Maccabi Haifa but could not help them avoid a derby defeat to Hapoel Haifa, who won 1-0. Anele Ngcongca made his 16th start of the season for Genk as they won 2-0 at Club Brugge to move up to second in the Belgian league. Keet kept another clean-sheet as his Kortrijk recorded their fifth victory in a row with a 1-0 ...
Among the many revelations, some more bafflingly controversial than others, regarding the England manager’s role during the recent international break came one that raised eyebrows among Liverpool supporters. After all, had Harry Redknapp been handed the national team job ahead of Roy Hodgson, the immediate future of the Anfield outfit could have been very different. Brendan Rodgers confirmed this week he was approached in April 2012 by Redknapp to become his assistant in the event of the then-Tottenham Hotspur manager landing the big one. Of course, it never happened. Instead, with Redknapp ultimately destined for Queens Park Rangers, Rodgers was charged less than two months later with dragging Liverpool back into the Champions League. So far, so good for this season, with his side second only to Arsenal on goals scored in the embryonic Premier League table going into tomorrow afternoon’s clash at Newcastle United. Rodgers, though, has always maintained an interest in the bigger picture. And while ** ...
Chelsea career On moving to Stamford Bridge, Fernando Torres took over the vacant number nine jersey, but took 14 games before he found the net, a joyously received effort on a sodden Stamford Bridge pitch against West Ham. It remained his only goal for the Blues that season but with a rare summer of recuperation following, hopes were high that 2011/12 would see the Fernando Torres that tormented Chelsea so much when he was wearing red. His start had been encouraging, with an opening day display at Stoke which lacked only a goal. That eventually came at Old Trafford in a 3-1 defeat against Manchester United, but his afternoon will be remembered not for the instinctive flick over David De Gea's head but the missed open goal that followed in the closing stages. The Spaniard bounced back quickly to open the scoring against Swansea with a smart touch and finish though, but he was then sent off, forcing him to miss three domestic games. In Europe though, he then netted twice in the 5-0 Champions League victory ...
RUTHLESS BLUES Jose Mourinho believes Chelsea's performance against Steaua Bucharest was our best of the season so far, coming on the back of a brilliant second-half display against Tottenham Hotspur in an enthralling London derby. Anything but a win in the Romanian capital would have left us with an uphill struggle in the Champions League, but Ramires scored twice to help us to a 4-0 dismantling of Steaua, mirroring the score which our Under-19s recorded earlier in the day. It must have made tough viewing for Dan Petrescu, who is a hero to both sets of supporters, but he would surely have appreciated the excellent performance from Andre Schurrle - which earned the German winger the man of the match award. The trip also gave us another opportunity to invite children cared for by the Little People organisation in Romania along to our pre-match training session - a day which none of the children will ever forget. The only disappointment of the week was that it wasn't two straight wins for the Blues, as our ...
Andre Schurrle and Juan Mata reflected on a job well done after we beat Steaua Bucharest 4-0 in Romania to secure our first victory in this season's Champions League. In what was undoubtedly our best performance of the season thus far the Blues dominated the game from start to finish, scoring two goals in each half to get our campaign up and running ahead of back-to-back matches against Schalke. Schurrle produced his best display in a Chelsea shirt to date, laying on the first goal and proving a real handful for the Steaua defence with his pace and inventiveness wide on the left. 'It was very important, we lost the first game against Basel and this was a must-win game,' said the German. 'We created chances and scored four goals which was very important. We played with confidence and were always looking to finish. It was a deserved win, 4-0 was a good result because we scored goals but I think we could have scored more. 'I always want to start and to play, the manager knows that. It's good for me that I st ...

Chelsea star Kevin De Bruyne faces uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has been sent to train with the reserves by Jose Mourinho, and is seemingly being frozen out by the Portuguese manager. The Belgian star was widely praised for his performances at the beginning of the season, starting matches against Hull City and Manchester United, but like Juan Mata before him, now appears to be out of Mourinho’s plans. De Bruyne was not included in the match squad to face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, will not travel with the Blues to Romania to face Steaua Bucharest in the Uefa Champions League. After a brilliant campaign on loan at Werder Bremen last season, the Daily Mail report that De Bruyne was personally convinced by Jose Mourinho not to leave Stamford Bridge on a temporary basis again. Still just 22 years of age, De Bruyne now has work to do if he is to revive his Chelsea career. -Andy-
When André Villas-Boas took the reigns at Tottenham Hotspur last July, few could have predicted the roller-coaster ride which would lay ahead. The Portuguese tactician brought with him an air of prosperity to the Club. New ideas, new methods, a new way of thinking. It has been an evolution, not a revolution. Former fan favourites have departed for pastures new. An exciting, sophisticated breed of football has been in instilled at White Hart Lane. The acquisition of world class talent across the field has allowed the Club to challenge both domestically and in Europe. Spurs now have the resources to match the best in the business thanks to the state of the art ‘Hotspur Way’ training complex. Last season the Club recorded it's highest points total in the Premier League era (72), narrowing missing out on a place in the Champions League. We will surely be looking to improve on that this time around. And we've gone the right way about it! So far this season we have played 9 games in all competitions, scori ...

Ronald night of goals Ronaldo shines in goals bonanza night Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick for Real Madrid illuminated an opening night goals bonanza as the leading contenders began the Champions League group stage with a bang on Tuesday. Thirty goals rained in around Europe with Real trouncing Galatasaray 6-1 in Istanbul, holders Bayern Munich winning 3-0 at home to CSKA Moscow and Manchester United putting four past Bayer Leverkusen at Old Trafford. Paris St Germain fired a warning that they will be a real threat with a 4-1 victory away to Olympiakos Piraeus while Manchester City won 3-0 at Czech outsiders Viktoria Plzen. Ronaldo's reign as the world's most expensive footballer ended this month when Real paid Tottenham Hotspur €100 million for Gareth Bale but he underlined his role as chief conductor of Los Blancos with a dazzling display. Bale, who is still building up his match fitness after missing most of pre-season, had the honour of becoming the world's most costly substitute until he joined the ...
Champions League Real Madrid aim to be kings of Europe again If Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, football's most expensive duo, can produce the brilliance that prompted Real Madrid to invest £166 million in, the Spanish giants could finally land their 10th European Cup this season. The 59th season of Europe's elite club competition begins on Tuesday with Bayern Munich defending their title boosted by the signing of Mario Goetze from last season's runners-up Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona looking for a fourth crown in nine seasons. The managerial landscape has changed with Alex Ferguson, in charge of more Champions League games than any other coach, having left Manchester United and Jose Mourinho having ended his spell at Real for a second stint at Chelsea. Real have replaced him with another double Champions League-winning coach in Carlo Ancelotti and the Italian's job will be to make sure new recruit Bale fits into his team. The correct answer was Portsmouth, Peter Crouch, Harry Redknapp and Tottenham Hotspur. Alex Fern got it correct. Third question now. Player A is a brilliant striker, who has played in clubs of 5 countries to date. He had netted 80 goals in 158 appearances in the Seria A and then left for a club in a new country, Club B, his transfer was the record transfer fee for that club, and another player moved to his former club which he left. This other player, Player C, was a two-time Champions League winner, scoring in both finals. His move to this new club was a success, and he won another Champions League. Meanwhile, Player A didn't have a great season and ultimately came back to the old league where he had 80 goals. Instead of joining his old club however, he joined their arch rivals, Club D and won a league title and a Golden Boot. He has since moved on. Identify A, B, C and D. -MZ
Hamburg sporting director Oliver Kreuzer is resigning himself to star striker Son Heung-Min making the leap to the greener pastures of Champions League football with Bayer Leverkusen. South Korean Son has grown up from within the Hamburg youth set-up, with his senior debut coming in 2010. He has since made 78 appearances for Hamburg, scoring 20 goals, and unsurprisingly attracted attention from top clubs around Europe, including Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Manchester United. It has become a sign of the changing times therefore that while former sporting director Frank Arnesen was confident the club would hold on to their asset, Kreuzer believes otherwise. He told Sky Deutschland: "We think that the transfer will fall into place within the next few days. I assume that Son is heading to Leverkusen." Son is under contract at Hamburg until 2014, with his tally for this season reading at an impressive 33 league games and 12 goals. Kreuzer was appointed sporting director followi ...
Chelsea have been told to pay £12.75million if they want to sign Wesley Sneijder, according to reports in the Mirror. The Galatasaray ace has been linked with a reunion with Jose Mourinho, who managed the midfielder during his brief time at Inter Milan. The pair lifted the Champions League trophy in 2010, after a 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich. The Turkish club’s president, Unal Aysal, has told Mourinho that he is welcome to re-sign the Dutchman, providing he matches the club’s valuation of the player. “I have been following the rumours about Sneijder, but we have not received an offer for him,” Aysal said. “If an offer in the region of €15million (£12.75m) comes in, we might decide to sell him though.” Sneijder faced Jose Mourinho twice this season, in both legs of the Champions League quarter-finals, where Real Madrid won 5-3 on aggregate. The news could also interest Tottenham Hotspur, who were linked with the 29-year-old in January. But after deciding not to bid for the midfield ace, t ...
Tottenham Hotspur transfer news: Gomez in, Gomes out? A select round-up of transfer news relating to Tottenham Hotspur, including Mario Gomez, Bernard, Heurelho Gomes, Benoit Assout-Ekotto and Alex Kacaniklic. Perhaps the most unexpected rumours of the weekend has seen Bayern Munich’s prolific striker Mario Gomez linked with a £7million move to Tottenham Hotspur. Considering Gomez has been lined with several £25+million moves in the past couple of weeks, unless there is a digit missing in the Metro’s valuation, this looks unlikely to happen. Despite problems with injuries and the form of Mario Mandzukic relegating him to the bench, Gomez managed 19 goals in all competitions for Bayern last season, and if he does leave this summer due to the arrival of Robert Lewandowski, there will be plenty of Champions League clubs in the hunt. A far more likely transfer this summer is that goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes will leave White Hart Lane, with the Brazilian himself saying he needs a move to ensure he is playi ...
rance winger Malouda, 32, was frozen out of the first-team picture after featuring in last season’s Champions League final win over Bayern Munich, electing to bide his time instead of taking a pay cut to move to his homeland or Brazil, where he has roots and had been reportedly interested in playing. The former Lyon man, who sold him to Chelsea for £13 million in 2007, is now expected to return to France, although he is unlikely to command the £80,000 per week he earned at Stamford Bridge. His Chelsea team-mates Yossi Benayoun and Paulo Ferreira were also released, while another ex Chelsea defender William Gallas was not given a contract extension by Tottenham Hotspur. Gallas joined Spurs from North London rivals Arsenal in 2010, and is joined on the free agents list by one-time England winger David Bentley, who struggled to break into the Tottenham team and spent time on loan at FK Rostov in Russia and former club Blackburn Rovers. Roque Santa Cruz was released by Manchester City after loan spells at ...
Tottenham Hotspur season review Final League position: 5th Points: 72 Goal Difference: +20 On the back of a season finishing 4th, and cruelly missing out on a Champions League place due to chelsea winning the 2011/12 trophy, tottenham parted ways with their manager Harry Redknapp, after him ultimately turning their fortunes around from previous managers. They turned to the young manager who was sacked months earlier by Chelsea, Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas, a manager with a good pedigree, working under Jose Mourinho at Porto, but wasn't taken in by the older players in the chelsea structure. With this brought optimism, and spurs made some great signings in the transfer market to push on, such as Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembele, keeper Hugo Lloris and Clint Dempsey, all making a significant impact on the team. After a poor start with a loss at Newcastle United, Spurs went on to be undefeated in their next 6 games, picking up wins at Reading, QPR, Villa and Manchester United. Then they hit their ...
Liverpool's 2012-13 Premier League season was a relatively disappointing one, as the Reds once again missed out on Champions League places. There was improvement overall in Brendan Rodgers' first year at the helm, as they made a nine-point improvement on Kenny Dalglish's final year. However, one of the factors that could have played a part in the lower-than-desired spot in the table was some inaccurate finishing. More specifically, Liverpool seemed to rattle the woodwork quite frequently. Too frequently, in fact. Recent statistics have indicated that they, along with Tottenham Hotspur, would have cracked the top four if all their shots that hit the woodwork had been goals. The difference in the standings amounted to a massive 14 points, vaulting them over Everton, Arsenal and Chelsea. This is not the first time that Liverpool have run into this kind of issue. Just last season, they struck iron an astounding 33 times, nearly once per game. That too would have seen them in the top four if those were convert ...
After just narrowly beating London rivals Tottenham Hotspur to the coveted 4th place spot (Champions League qualification), Arsene Wenger has a lot of re-building to do to make Arsenal a top club once more. If you were in his shoes, with an estimated transfer budget of £70M, who would you buy and for how much, to improve your squad? Take the club's reputation into account.
Picking Arsenal's five best players this season We take a look at the Arsenal squad and pick the five best players from the 2012-13 season. Arsenal have had a mixed campaign with some serious lows and the occasional highs throughout but in the end they were once again left empty handed in the elusive search for silverware. Here is our top five Arsenal players for 2012-13... Santi Cazorla Quite easily Arsenal’s best player this season and without him who knows how this campaign would have ended up. Why is 5th place not a failure?10 seasons ago a lucky team from North London managed to stroll to the Premier League title without losing a game in the league that season. I am sure the minute I introduced the word ‘lucky’ you knew I wasn’t talking about my beloved Tottenham Hotspur. We ourselves that season managed to accumulate a total of 45 points to finish in 14th place under the control of England-legend Glenn Hoddle followed by David Pleat. On the 19th of May 2013 however, Arsenal beat Newcastle 1-0 at St James’ Park through a Laurent Koscielny volley to secure their 4th trophy for another year. Meanwhile, Tottenham (A club who Gooners seem to be more obsessed with than their club itself) beat Sunderland 1-0 at White Hart Lane thanks to an outstanding goal from our prize-asset Gareth Bale.Arsenal finished on 73 points whereas we finished on 72 points, allowing Arsenal to compete in next next years Champions League. Alan Pardew has warned his old adversary Arsene Wenger that he is under “enormous pressure” in Sunday’s clash with Arsenal at St James’ Park. The Newcastle United boss has history with the Gunners chief, having clashed with the Frenchman during a technical area tussle during his West Ham days. Arsenal need to win on Tyneside to guarantee Champions League football – or face surrendering the place to Tottenham Hotspur, who have the easier task of beating bottom-four Sunderland at White Hart Lane. Looking ahead to the game, Pardew told the Chronicle: “It’s a huge game for Arsenal – it’s very important for them. “They need to win, and they’ll have that mentality. “They’ll carry a threat, and we’ve got to deal with that. “Everyone knows how important Champions League football is to them. “One team is going to be under enormous pressure.” Pardew’s side are 9/2 with William Hill for a final day victory over the Londoners but go into the game owing the St James’ faithful a pe ...

Liverpool's pursuit of a top-four Premier League finish this season can really take off with a win against third-placed Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, red-hot striker Luis Suarez said. Liverpool, in seventh, are 10 points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and 12 in arrears of Spurs with 10 games to go in another mediocre season where Suarez's goalscoring has been the highlight. "We've been in good form recently and it's a good opportunity to reduce the gap between ourselves and Spurs," said Suarez, who with 21 goals leads the Premier League scoring charts by from Manchester United's Robin Van Persie. "There is a slight chance we can make Champions League football - and if we want to do that, this is the sort of game we need to win," added the Uruguayan on the club's website (www.Liverpoolfc.com) ahead of the 1600 GMT clash at Anfield. Liverpool last played in the Champions League in the 2009/10 season after memorably winning the trophy in 2005 and then making the 2007 final. Suarez said Liverpool's performances ...

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly the latest European heavyweight to express an interest in Sochaux defender Sebastien Corchia. Big-spending Paris Saint-Germain are apparently leading the chase to keep Frenchman Corchia in Ligue 1, but Italian giants AC Milan and Juventus are also keen admirers. Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is rumoured to be a fan of the 22-year-old, who can operate at either right-back or in midfield on the same flank. The Lillywhites already have Kyle Walker and Kyle Naughton in that position, but Villas-Boas is still looking to strengthen his ranks for a potential Champions League campaign next season, according to Talksport. It is thought that it would take an £8m bid to tempt Sochaux into selling their star asset.

'Former Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has refused to rule out a return to the West-London club with interim boss Rafa Benitez announcing he will leave the club in the summer after blasting the club's hierarchy and fans. The Anzhi Makhachkala coach enjoyed a successful three months as caretaker boss for the Blues in 2009, guiding the club to the Champions League semi-finals and an FA Cup final victory over Everton. The 66-year-old is a standout candidate with the beleaguered Spaniard set to depart Stamford Bridge at the season's end, and despite announcing his decision to retire last November, he could carry on if he feels "energetic" enough to do so. "I enjoyed my time [at Chelsea] very much," he told reporters. "I was there almost half a year and in 27 or 30 games, we lost only to Tottenham Hotspur and in the rest achieved good results. On top of that, I really enjoyed working with the group of players. "They have gone through a lot of changes. I'm the only man who wasn't sacked. I said to Dutch televisio ...
Gunners looking to restore pride vs Spurs Arsenal’s damaging Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium in February was the bookend of a terrible week for the Gunners. And things do not get easier for Arsene Wenger’s wounded men this weekend, when they make the short trip across North London to face their most detested rivals, Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs are the ascendant London club at the moment, having leapfrogged Chelsea into third-place on the Premier League log, four points ahead of the fifth-placed Gunners. Andre Villas-Boas is proving his mettle at the lane, helped by the stunning form of his Welsh talisman, Gareth Bale. Bale is the form player in the English top flight, and Arsenal’s rickety defence will have to be at the peak of their powers to stop him in his tracks. But Wenger insists that he and Arsenal are not especially worried about Bale ahead of the derby, and that it would be foolish to concentrate on one Spurs player only during the game. "Bale is not the subjec ...
How Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur compare ahead of the North London derby Both sides have had their ups and downs in this campaign, both sides want a Champions League place next season, but it is Spurs who may just have a slender edge over Arsenal in Sunday's North London derby at White Hart Lane. By Alan Smith Star Quality Arsenal: This aspect, of course, has been badly ravaged by the damaging departures of Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Robin Van Persie. In their place, Jack Wilshere does his best to carry the fight by consistently producing top-class displays. Santi Cazorla is another who can sprinkle the gold dust, while Theo Walcott can tear teams apart with those piercing runs. After that, though, Arsenal are lacking. The magic of old has been diluted. 7 Tottenham: In this regard, one man leads the charge. Gareth Bale is showing so much star quality right now he looks to have enough to spread around. Elsewhere, Moussa Dembele is a very talented customer, as is a fit Jermain Defoe when he gets sight ...
Simply put.Sunday's fixture between Arsenal Gunners and Tottenham Hotspur in Barclays Premier League is the MOST important match of the season. Arsenal is currently 4 points behind Tottenham in table, each fighting for spot in Uefa Champions League next season. White Hart Lane in North London ( home of the Tottenham FC) is the venue for this titanic battle. Go get 'em Lads from Tottenham!! By Paul Kelso, Chief Sports Reporter Daily Telegraph They also reported cash reserves of more than £123million, a figure that will fuel demands for manager Arsène Wenger to enhance his squad. In half-yearly accounts that will prolong the debate over Wenger’s use of the resources at his disposal Arsenal announced a profit of £17.8million, a figure that derives in part from a profit on player trading of £23.2million. Analysis of the figures also suggests Arsenal’s wage bill will exceed £150 million for the first time this season, more than £50million higher than that of Tottenham Hotspur, their rivals for a Champions League place. Van Persie’s departure to arch rivals Manchester United brought Arsenal £24 million, a sum that helped the club maintain their healthy balance sheets but has cost them dearly in league points. Wenger has faced prolonged criticism of his methods and particularly his failure to effectively invest the profits generated by the sale of leading players such as Van Persie. T ...

Soccer-Adebayor has club score to settle with Drogba at Nations Cup A world away from freezing England, Tottenham Hotspur's Emmanuel Adebayor tries to settle a score with ex-Chelsea striker Didier Drogba when Togo face Ivory Coast at the sweltering African Nations Cup on Tuesday. Two of Africa's most successful players have been rivals for years and Adebayor is hoping his Togo side will put Drogba's Ivory Coast to the sword in their opening Group D match and go some way to making him feel better about last season. First Chelsea crushed Spurs 5-1 in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, subsequently going on to win the final against Liverpool as Drogba became the first man to score in four FA Cup finals. Then in May, Drogba ended his hugely successful career at Chelsea by scoring a late equaliser against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final before converting the winning penalty in the shootout and simultaneously depriving Adebayor's Spurs a place in this season's competition. Spurs had finished fourth in ...
Great article on Michael Dawson, who to be fair I doubted myself. But I take it all back! He has proved me and others very wrong indeed. Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United: Michael Dawson sets his sights on Champions League qualification Interview: Unwanted last summer, Michael Dawson stood firm and has fought his way back into Spurs side. Michael Dawson lays his cards on the table — just as Andre Villas-Boas did with him at the start of this season. “I wasn’t going to jump ship at the first sign of hard times,” Dawson states, recalling his forthright reaction after being told in August by Tottenham Hotspur’s new Head Coach that he could not be guaranteed first-team football and, therefore, could leave – even though he had been chosen as club captain after Ledley King’s retirement. With, Dawson says, five “top centre-halves” at Spurs — Younes Kaboul, Jan Vertonghen, Steven Caulker and William Gallas being the others — an offer of £9 million from Queens Parks Rangers for a 29 year ...
Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas begins preparing for Chelsea reunion Andre Villas-Boas demands Tottenham take Europa League seriously Former Andre Villas-Boas assistant backs Chelsea manager to succeed Tottenham have to finish above rivals Arsenal to secure Champions League football, says Andre Villas-Boas AVB wants revenge for Spurs, not himself When Manchester United come to White Hart Lane tomorrow, they will be on Andre Villas-Boas's patch. Not just the ground where he works, the pitch he surveys, but where he belongs, which he controls and where he exerts his character. It was not always this way, but Villas-Boas finally seems settled, more than he ever has been in English football. Tottenham Hotspur this season feels like a far better fit for Villas-Boas than Chelsea was last season. Spurs have the right pre-conditions – stability, healthier pressure, healthier ambition, younger players – and less of the intense circus of Chelsea which made his last job, in retrospect, almost doomed to failu ...
Wesley SneijderManchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal Like Villa, Sneijder is a player who would have a massive impact at any club he joined. Whilst Manchester United aren’t short of options in attack, it’s no surprise to see the Dutchman linked with a move to Old Trafford. His ability in an attacking midfield role could create even more chances for the likes of Robin Van Persie and Javier Hernandez. After the success of Rafael Van der Vaart in North London, Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be considering a move for the cut-price Inter Milan star, whose goals couldmean the difference between Europa League and Champions League in North London. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will be thinking the same thing , whilst Chelsea havetheir sights on the biggest domestic prize – Premier League glory. With Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Oscae already in the line-up, it would be an intriguing selection process for manager Benitez if Sneijder was added. Arsenal would certainly hav ...
Tottenham Hotspur have jumped to the front of the queue to sign Inter Milan outcast and Manchester United transfer target Wesley Sneijder, according to the Daily Mirror. The Holland international was a target for Sir Alex Ferguson last year, but a £25m deal with the Serie ‘A’ giants could not be reached. The Daily Mirror also reports that Sneijder does not see eye-to-eye with United’s £24m summer recruit Robin Van Persie – making a switch to Old Trafford for Sneijder unlikely.Spurs now lead the chase for the Dutch playmaker. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly interested in Sneijder, who has fallen out of favour at the San Siro after refusing to accept a pay cut.Tottenham are thought to be keen to strengthen in January, as Andre Villas-Boas looks to push to secure a Champions League qualification spot, but the Daily Mirror claims they can expect fierce competition for the capture of Sneijder. The former-Ajax and Real Madrid star helped Inter Milan to the Champions League title in 2010, sp ...
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has plenty of options available to him after watching his side progress to the Champions League last 16 in midweek. Wojciech Szczesny is back between the sticks and back in form for the Gunners, who travel to Villa Park high on confidence following consecutive wins against Tottenham Hotspur and Montpellier. A back four of Bacary Sagna, Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Thomas Vermaelen is unlikely to be changed, although Kieran Gibbs is available again and could provide another option at left back. The midfield trio of Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta and Santi Cazorla is starting to show serious signs of promise, although Abou Diaby and Tomas Rosicky remain out through injury for the Emirates Stadium outfit. Ivorian international Gervinho is available for selection once again, but Olivier Giroud will expect to get the nod after some impressive displays in recent weeks. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is again likely to replace the injured Theo Walcott, whilst German international Lukas ...
ARSENAL Or tottenham? An incendiary mix of bitter local rivalry and two teams searching for consistency amid fan disquiet see Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur throw themselves into the bearpit of a North London derby at the Emirates on Saturday (1245 GMT). Always a high-octane affair, the lunchtime Premier League clash promises goals, drama and bragging rights but the only thing concerning opposing managers Arsene Wenger and Andre Villas-Boas, however, is securing three points. For clubs with annual top-four and Champions League ambitions, neither is where they want to be after 11 games. Spurs, in their first season under Former Chelsea manager Villas-Boas, are in seventh, one point and one place above Wenger's men. The two teams are already 10 and 11 points behind leaders Manchester United respectively. Arsenal blew a two-goal lead at home to Fulham last weekend, forced to settle for a 3-3 draw after Mikel Arteta's penalty was saved in the fifth minute of added time. It was the second successive game that A ...
Injury News: Gervinho out for three weeks. Gervinho has been ruled out for three weeks with an ankle injury, manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed. The injury, picked up during last weekend’s 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers just 11 minutes after coming on as a substitute – means that Gervinhois expected to miss as many as five games for the Gunners, including several key fixtures. Arsenal travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Saturday before visiting German side Schalke in the Champions League next Tuesday. Two consecutive London derbies at Emirates Stadium, against Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur, then follow before a potentially decisive European fixture against French champions Montpellier. With Gervinho out, Olivier Giroud is expected to spearhead the attack at Old Trafford on Saturday, but after their impressive performances against Reading on Tuesday, Marouane Chamakh and Theo Walcott could be used as target men during Gervinho’s absence. Meanwhile, Wenger has confirmed that Kieran G ...

Gareth Bale determined to fire Tottenham Hotspur into Champions League spot
Redknapp taking time over next move 12 September 2012 Harry Redknapp says he will wait for the right offer to come his way before he makes a return to management. Redknapp was dismissed by Tottenham Hotspur in June and replaced by Former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas. North London club Spurs spent the majority of last season as possible title contenders but a sharp drop in form, coinciding with speculation linking Redknapp with the vacant England job, saw the English Premier League outfit finish fourth. They were then denied a Champions League spot due to Chelsea's win in Munich. "It depends what comes up, it would have to be something I really fancy for me to do it," Redknapp told Sky Sports. "If I am going to do it, I will put myself into it 100 per cent and give everything I've got to it. "We will wait and see what comes up." Earlier this month Redknapp was appointed in an advisory capacity with League One side Bournemouth, where he began his managerial career in earnest.

Baggies stay more important than Champions League football for Popov Goran Popov would love to stay at West Bromwich Albion, and is even prepared to give up on Uefa Champions League football to do so. Goran PopovThe 27-year-old joined the Baggies on deadline day on a season-long loan deal, but didn’t complete the switch in time to feature in the 2-0 win over Everton the following day. Popov, who has 41 international caps for Macedonia, will hope to debut when Steve Clarke takes his unbeaten side to Fulham on 15 September, although he will have to dislodge Liam Ridgewell from the left-back berth. Albion have made a fine start to the new season, having opened with a 3-0 win over Liverpool, which was followed up with a 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur before the Toffees were defeated last Saturday. This has lifted them to third place in the Premier League table, and such a sequence of results has impressed their new signing. There is an option in Popov’s temporary deal which could see him join West Brom on ...
Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have been linked heavily with Inter Milan's Julio Cesar over the past month or so and the player has become an outcast at Inter Milan where a relationship which was once fantastic has turned sour. The Brazilian goalkeeper struggled a bit last season with fitness and subsequently had a period of patchy form but he feels the Serie A club didn't stand by him like they should have and decided to cast him aside rashly. Cesar has won a bag full of trophies with Inter Milan including the Champions League in 2010, he's had periods where he's been considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world and at 32 has plenty of time to get back to his very best, especially as he'll turn up at his new club with a huge point to prove. Calciomercato quote Gianluca Di Marzio, chief gossip merchant of Italy's Sky Sports and TMW, as saying that Julio Cesar is close to a move to Tottenham and is ready to get on a plane to England to end his Inter Milan ordeal. "Officials are at work, Vigorelli (Ce ...

Luka Modric has indicated he wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer in search of Champions League football, with widespread reports in England and Spain suggesting the player's agent, Mario Mamic, has met with Real Madrid.
Chelsea trailing Modric as Madrid interest wanes Luka Modric remains a target for Champions League winners Chelsea but interest in the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder from Real Madrid has lessened over the last week, the Daily Telegraph has reported. The newspaper adds that Tottenham are prepared for Modric to leave this summer but chairman Daniel Levy will not let the 26-year-old leave for anything less than what he believes is his full value. The Telegraph claims Spurs will not accept less than £50m for the Croatia international. Chelsea were dogged pursuers of Modric a year ago, having a series of bids rejected by Levy, with the Telegraph revealing both that one such offer was turned down shortly before the close of the summer transfer window, and that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich vowed to Modric that he would pick up his interest again this summer. Madrid’s interest in Modric is said to have declined after Nuri Sahin, the Turkey midfielder, refused to be included in any offer as a makeweight. Manche ...

Latest Bayern Munich 1-1 Chelsea (after extra time) Penalty shoot-out: Bayern Munich 3-4 Chelsea WRAP: And as John Terry finally gets the big silver thing to himself, he lifts it towards the Munich sky and completes possibly one of the most unlikely triumphs in the history of European football. This is a Chelsea side of some superb players, some very good players, and some ordinary ones. What has lifted them to the pinnacle of Europe tonight is a mixture of many things - spirit, skill, experience, a sense of occasion, and yes, a little luck. You feel bad for Bayern Munich - not that many non-Bayern-supporting Germans will feel the same way - and worse still for Tottenham Hotspur, who have been knocked out of next season's Champions League without even playing in it. Not even Everton, you'll note, managed that feat. But while many teams of great ability have never won the Champions League, no team without an iron will and perfect cohesion has ever won it. For that, in my view, you've got to look to Roberto ...
