Guardiola: Torres perfect for Atletico The coach lauded Diego Simeone's decision to bring the former club captain back to the Vicente Calderon and believes they pose a threat to Bayern's Champions League chances By Miles Chambers Jan 16, 2015 23:36:00 Former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola believes that Atletico Madrid have hit the jackpot by bringing Fernando Torres back to the Vicente Calderon. Torres left La Liga for Liverpool in 2007, one year before Guardiola famously took the reins at Camp Nou, and returned earlier this month on loan from AC Milan having flopped at San Siro and Chelsea before that. Football pundits and fans were split over whether Torres would burden another club with his lack of goals, but he stunned arch-rivals Real Madrid on Thursday by scoring a double to knock the holders out of the Copa Del Rey at the last-16 stage. Guardiola, who now coaches Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, believes that the Spain international is perfectly suited to life under Diego Simeone's wing in Madrid. ...

Ancelotti: “I'm not the only one who thinks that Atlético are the trickiest. They won La Liga and got to the final of the Champions League."
To prove last season was no fluke, Atletico immediately began the current campaign in style – despite selling Diego Costa and Filipe Luis to Chelsea, who also brought Courtois home from his extended loan. The club overcame Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup and has since defeated its city rival on two more occasions. Atletico topped its Champions League group and is again proving to be a nuisance in La Liga. Last week’s 2-0 success over Real in the first leg of their Copa Del Rey last 16 tie was just more proof that Atletico deserved to share more of the Ballon d’Or awards with its city rival. Simeone and his troops will be keen to avenge this injustice on Thursday when Ronaldo parades his trophy.
What was the crucial factor in the end? RT: A record 17 goals in the 2013-14 Champions League campaign, 61 goals in 60 appearances for club and country in the calendar year, breaking the La Liga hat-trick record, a rate of one goal every 62 minutes in La Liga, a Champions League title, a Copa Del Rey title, 21 club assists and a leader's role on the field as Real finally bagged the Decima. However, it's fair to say that Argentina failing to win the World Cup also played more of a part than Ronaldo did in Brazil in the Ballon d'Or outcome. FT: Ronaldo led Real Madrid to victory in the most important club tournament in the world, scoring plenty of goals and terrorising rival defences in the process. His influence in the very successful year that Los Blancos have enjoyed under Carlo Ancelotti is obvious, as is his increasing desire to become a leader for experienced teammates and upcoming youngsters. ML: The bottom line is Messi and Ronaldo are the leading "brands" in the game today, the finest outfield play ...
BALLON D'OR 2014/2015 AT A GLANCE. Real Madrid Super Star,Cristiano Ronaldo has won FIFA's Ballon d'Or award 2014/2015 for the third time - beating Lionel Messi and Manuel Neuer. It is the third time Ronaldo has been crowned the top player after winning the award last year and for his 2002 campaign. The three awards match France’s Zinedine Zidane and Brazil’s Ronaldo for second most since the player of the year award was first presented in 1991. Messi holds the record with four trophies after being crowned the best player on the planet each year from 2009-2012. Messi and Ronaldo have cornered the market for the award with the last seven trophies going to the Spanish League stars. The duo has been in an epic duel for supremacy within La Liga, Champions League, highest salary and for the crown of best player in the world’s most popular start. For now, the hat rests squarely on Ronaldo’s head. Ronaldo was widely expected to take home the 2014 Ballon D’Or after leading Real Madrid to its tenth Champ ...
Let's get back to the Fifa Awards!! Daylight robbery for those applying their trade in English Football. Luis Suarez is better than Robben Yaya Toure is way better than Kros, Iniesta and Angel. But I guess YaYa had to be born in South America, Europe or his skin colour had to be a bit light for him to be there. Fifa Puskas: Suarez scored a marvelous goal last year in the Premier League!! Don't remember if it was in the Merseyside or in that game were he scored a hat trick!!! At least he should have been a contender. Congradulations to Christiano Ronaldo he had a good 2014. A Penalty has to be scored if its given. He is Real best when it comes to that. Fifa Club World Cup, Uefa Champions League, Top Goal scorer in La Liga, Top Goal scorer in Champions League and a record of most goals in Champions League. He deserved it. However Goalkeepers should not be in the same category as Forwards in the same category caus they will never win.

Man Utd to sign goalkeeper Valdes 7 January 2015 Victor Valdes spent 12 years at La Liga side Barcelona Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has accepted an offer to join Manchester United. The Spain international, who has been training with United in his bid to recover from a serious knee injury, has agreed an 18-month contract. Valdes, 32, won six La Liga and three Champions League titles with Barcelona, before leaving at the end of last season when his contract expired. The deal could lead to reserve keeper Anders Lindegaard leaving Old Trafford. It also poses a question about the future of 24-year-old first-choice goalkeeper David De Gea, who was the club's player of the year last season and has excelled again this term. His contract is due to expire in 2016, although senior United sources have said they were relaxed about him signing an extension to that deal. Valdes's honours at Barcelona La Liga: 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013. Copa Del Rey: 2009, 2012. Champions League: 2006, 2009, 2011. ...
The Brazilian has played 294 games and scored 20 goals for Real Madrid. Today is the eighth anniversary of Marcelo's debut for Real Madrid. The Brazilian, who arrived at the club in the 2006/07 mid-season transfer window, made his bow against Deportivo at Riazor on 7 January 2007. He was just 18 years old, but soon became a cornerstone of the team. Eight seasons later, he is one of the squad's captains and has played 294 matches, scoring 20 goals. As a Real Madrid player, Marcelo has won it all: one Champions League, one Club World Cup, one European Super Cup, three La Liga titles, two Copas Del Rey and two Spanish Super Cups. Having played a fundamental role in a 2014 which ended as the club's most trophy-laden year ever, the defender is enjoying one of the finest periods of his career. After finishing off last season by scoring one of the goals that handed the Whites La Décima in Lisbon, this term he has missed just two of the 29 games played by Ancelotti's side. Tonight at the Vicente Calderón, he is ...
La Liga: Report: Norwegian talent Odegaard set to sign for Real Madrid
The SEVEN reasons why Lionel Messi could make £200MILLION Chelsea move: 1) There are suggestions the Argentine is unhappy with his pay packet at Barcelona. He signed a new contract in May that earns him £16m a year after tax - but his great rival Cristiano Ronaldo earns £19m a year at Real Madrid. This has apparently caused friction between Messi's camp and Barca. 2) Messi is the all-time top goalscorer in La Liga and the Champions League. But he wants to play in the Premier League and turning 28 in June he could feel the timing is perfect for a move to England. 3) Barca have slapped an astonishing £200m price tag on their star man. But according to sources close to the player, Adidas (Chelsea club sponsor and kit supplier) are ready to help fund the deal in order to steal Messi from their big rivals Nike (who sponsor Barca). 4) Cesc Fabregas left the Nou Camp for Chelsea this summer and is trying to persuade his close friend, his future lies at Stamford Bridge too. 5) Messi wants to live in London. INTO THE CHRISTMAS BREAK... D I D. Y O U. K N O W? * Real Madrid are going into the Christmas break with one-point lead, & a game in hand, at the top of La Liga. * A Spanish record run of 22 successive wins. Two trophies already in the bag (European Super Cup and Club World Cup). * Barcelona have bagged 41 goals in 16 matches - at an average of almost three per game. * Ronaldo has scored only two fewer La Liga goals than Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar combined this season. * Real Madrid had a100% record in the Champions League group stage. * Cristiano Ronaldo have scored 25 league goals in 14 matches this season. * The key to Madrid's excellent start is Carlo Ancelotti managing to do something that neither of his Bernabeu predecessors Jose Mourinho or Manuel Pellegrini could do. That's knitting together a dressing room packed with the world's most expensive players and, possibly, the world's most inflated egos. * Bayern Munich have taken 45 points from their 17 matches (a Bundesliga record), and only con ...
Athletic Bilbao 1-4 Atletico Madrid: Griezmann fires in hat-trick as champions storm to victory Mikel Rico gave the home side the lead after 17 minutes but Diego Simeone's men responded in ruthless fashion to keep their title challenge firmly alive Antoine Griezmann scored a hat-trick as Atletico Madrid came from a goal down to smash Athletic Bilbao4-1 at San Mames on Sunday. The former Real Sociedad man scored three goals in four La Liga games against rivals Bilbao prior to joining the Spanish champions and continued that streak as Atletico came from a goal down to end 2014 on a high. The Champions League runners-up looked set to end a famous year with disappointment as Mikel Rico's first goal of the season handed the hosts a deserved early lead. However, Ernesto Valverde's men failed to build on that in the remainder of a first half they largely dominated and were made to pay when Griezmann equalised less than a minute after the interval. A slick Atleti move ended with Juanfran's delivery, allowing the ...
GBAM!!! Liverpool and Arsenal have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao, 26, after it was made clear he was unwanted at the La Liga side. Aston Villa face a battle to keep defender Aly Cissokho, 27, with Spurs and Napoli showing interest in the Frenchman. Crystal Palace have tabled a £2.5m bid for Lille left-back Pape Souare, 24, but the French side will not let him go for less than £3m. Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has made Wolfsburg's £20m-rated midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, 23, one of his top January transfer targets just 11 months after the Belgium international left Chelsea for £18m. Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir, 21, after his father admitted he will only leave France for the Gunners. Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets, 26, but Bayern Munich and Paris St-Germain are also interested. ✒ It was more difficult than the scoreline suggests. Real Madrid beat Almeria 4-1 away from home to stay on top of La Liga and make it 20 wins in a row in all competitions. Perfect preparation for the Club World Cup, but a tougher test than they would have wanted. Madrid fly out to Morocco on Sunday looking to add a world championship to the Champions League crown claimed last May in Lisbon. And in their last Liga match of 2014, Carlo Ancelotti's men were forced to dig deep. In the end, two late goals from Cristiano Ronaldo made it look a lot easier than it was, but Almeria missed a penalty (Iker Casillas' first spot-kick save in La Liga since 2011) at 2-1. The game was wide open until the Portuguese slotted home the third following a fine move involving both Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema. With Almeria squeezing spaces in the midfield and pressing persistently, Madrid missed the quality, touch and passing of injured pair James Rodriguez and Luka Modric. Ancelotti finally withdrew Benzema five minutes be ...

Luis Suarez talks Ballon d'Or ; ''No one knows what are the standards of the voting !, so shady'' ''if it is from January to December then the World Cup should be put into consideration, there are players who reached the final and others who left early.'' ''For me Messi should win it, what he did this year is fantastic, Leo returned from a long injury and then helped Barca to stay in La Liga clash of the last round and helped Argentina reach the final and scored all those goals plus breaking major records '' ''the Uefa Champions League all time top scorer records is unbelievable because Leo played less matches than the top 3 and he's only 27 ! other players claimed they would break it first'' ''There's Manuel Neuer ... a World Cup champion and Cristiano, who scored a lot of goals, so there are open options but for me the best is Leo'' Well said bruh, well said (y)

Lionel Messi © Reuters Images Barcelona forward Lionel Messi set a Champions League scoring record of 74 goals when he netted a hat-trick in Tuesday's 4-0 Group F win at Apoel Nicosia. The Barca and Argentina captain surpassed the record of 71 he jointly held with former Real Madrid and Schalke 04 striker Raul when he put his side 2-0 ahead shortly before halftime. The 27-year-old added two more goals in the second half to complete his 31st career treble, his fifth in Europe's elite club competition and the first in which he has scored all three with his less-favoured right foot. "I am pleased to have achieved such a nice record in such a nice and important competition but the really important thing is the three points," Messi said in a television interview. His achievement is the latest milestone in a stellar career and comes three days after he broke the six decades-old La Liga scoring record with a hat-trick in Barca's 5-1 home win over Sevilla. Messi overhauled former Athletic Bilbao striker Telmo Za ...
What would Barcelona do without Lionel Messi? Since hinting in a recent interview with Argentine sports paperOlethat his long-term future may lie away from the Catalan club, Lionel Messi has returned to his brilliant best and broken two of football's most remarkable records in the space of four days. On Saturday, his hat-trick in the 5-1 win at home to Sevilla saw the recent gloom lifted at Camp Nou and he was given a rousing reception and a special tribute after surpassing Basque legend Telmo Zarra to become La Liga's all-time top goalscorer. And Messi's goals are also the fuel for Barca in Europe. His recent double at Ajax saw him draw level with Raul on 71 strikes in the Champions League and another hat-trick at APOEL on Tuesday means he is now the competition's leading scorer outright with 74 strikes in Europe's premier club competition. Two timely reminders, if they were needed, of just what Messi means to this team. The Argentine has been unhappy with the Barca board and on Saturday, president Josep ...
Messi revels in Champions League milestone 26 November 2014 Lionel Messi reflected on breaking the Uefa Champions League goalscoring record as "a wonderful thing" after his hat-trick against APOEL. The prolific Barcelona forward surpassed Real Madrid legend Raul's tally of 71 goals by scoring his second hat-trick in as many games on Tuesday. Messi took centre stage after Luis Suarez netted his first Barca goal as the Catalan giants coasted to a 4-0 Group F victory in Nicosia. The mercurial Messi became the top scorer in La Liga history with a treble in a 5-1 hammering of Sevilla on Saturday and the Argentina talisman revelled in his latest milestone. "Achieving this record in a competition like this is a wonderful thing. But, beyond that it was a very important game," said Messi, who now has 74 Champions League goals. Luis Enrique's side face French champions Paris Saint-Germain at Camp Nou next month knowing a win would ensure they finish top of the group and Messi is determined to achieve that goal. He ...

La Liga record-breaking Lionel Messi is a one-off The fact that we are still celebrating Lionel Messi is a testament to his brilliance. With Cristiano Ronaldo playing like someone entered a cheat code into his PlayStation, Neymar producing the kind of early-season form that tempts comparisons to Ronaldinho and Luis Suarez arriving on the scene to disrupt the party, there is enough going on in Spain without referring to the Argentine. Yet here we are, eulogising the little man once more. He refuses to go away. Of course he broke La Liga's career goal- scoring record in typical Messi fashion: by scoring in bunches. He equalled Telmo Zarra's mark of 251 goals with a superb free-kick in the 21st minute of Barcelona's match against Sevilla on Saturday, then broke it in the 72nd minute by adding a second before completing his hat trick in Barca's 5-1 triumph. There are some, particularly in Spain, who would like nothing more than for Messi to be considered just an ordinary player. For his still-exception al 41 ...

Moyes takes over at Real Sociedad Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has agreed to take over as head coach of Real Sociedad until 30 June 2016, the La Liga club announced in a statement on Monday. Moyes, 51, replaces Jagoba Arrasate, who was sacked by the San Sebastian-based club on November 2 after a poor start to the season, the club said on their website (www.realsociedad.com). Moyes replaced the retiring Alex Ferguson at United on a six-year deal in May last year but left in April after less than a season. In 51 matches in charge at Old Trafford, the club won 27, drew nine and lost 15 in all competitions. Moyes made his reputation as a top-flight coach in his previous job at Everton, who finished in the top six in the Premier League four times under the Scot. They qualified for the Champions League in 2005 and reached the 2009 FA Cup Final, where they lost 2-1 to Chelsea after beating Manchester United in the semifinals. Sociedad are 15th in La Liga with nine points from 11 matches following ...
Moyes takes Real Sociedad post David Moyes has been appointed head coach of La Liga club Real Sociedad. The Scot has signed a deal until the summer of 2016 and returns to football six-and-a-half months after losing his job as Manchester United boss. Moyes had been considering Sociedad's offer for some time and, according to Sky Sports' Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, was pressed for a decision with second-choice Pepe Mel waiting in the wings. Balague told Sky Sports News HQ: "I'm so excited about this. He's one of the top British managers and he's actually going to go to La Liga, to a team he can improve. "The interesting thing is Real Sociedad have not accepted no for an answer. They insisted they wanted him to be the man and received very good reports. It's not a decision that's been taken lightly at all." Moyes joins a club third from bottom in La Liga following a poor start to the season that cost Jagoba Arrasate his job. But Sociedad were in the Champions League as recently as last season, w ...
Former Manchester United boss David Moyes has been announced as the new boss of La Liga outfit Real Sociedad. Moyes’ reputation as a manager suffered immensely during a difficult 10-month tenure at Old Trafford, where he was sacked in April. Having formerly built a name for himself at Everton, Moyes gets an unexpected chance at redemption in Spain . The Scottish coach has signed a one-and-a-half year deal with Sociedad, who finished seventh in the Spanish top flight last season. Moyes lasted just 51 games at Manchester United, winning just 27 times as the defending champions failed to qualify for the Uefa Champions League. His time in Manchester was characterized by vitriolic campaigns against him personally by sections of the United fan-base and intense scrutiny and criticism of his leadership. In March, a plane was infamously flown over Old Trafford with the message “Wrong One – Moyes Out” during a league match with Aston Villa.
Real Madrid have 42 goals in 11 games. Can they win La Liga and retain the Champions League?
Champions League Match preview: Liverpool aim to tame rampant Real Madrid, salvage stuttering campaign: After the 'Los Blancos' dished out a footballing masterclass at Anfield, in a 3-0 win over Liverpool, which left even the staunchest of Kopietes applaud Cristiano Ronaldo and his band of champions, the focus shifts to the Santiago Bernabeu, where the two teams clash once again, in what promises to be another dramatic fixture. Though Real Madrid remain 'the' team to beat in this season's Champions League, still they would be wary of a Liverpool side, seething with revenge, thanks to that humiliating Anfield mauling. Tuesday's fixture is a make or break tie for the Reds, considering the fact that their European dreams hang by a thread, and another defeat against Real will seriously sabotage their chances of making it to the Round of 16. Madrid enter the tie in wake of some superb domestic form, which was evident in the recent 4-0 thrashing of La Liga minnows Granada, thus giving Carlo Ancelotti's side a s ...

Man Utd KEEPER De Gea REJECTS Real Madrid RUMOURS, Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has rejected rumours linking him with Real Madrid . De Gea is yet to commit to a new contract at Old Trafford, but the 23- year-old has played down talk of a return to La Liga, before reflecting on his side’s start to the season under Louis Van Gaal. “[They are] Just rumours. I'm happy here,” he told Kicker . "Starting problems are quite normal under a new coach with a complete new concept,” he continued. "That's a process and Van Gaal always says that we will improve, but it takes time. But without a doubt, United have to reach the Champions League again."
Liverpool endured the second defeat of their Champions League campaign on Wednesday night as holders Real Madrid came to Anfield and clinically claimed a 3-0 victory from the Group B encounter. Despite a hugely encouraging start by the Reds, it was the La Liga outfit breaking the deadlock midway through the half via a Cristiano Ronaldo volley. That setback was compounded when, seven minutes later, Karim Benzema rose highest to plant a header home at the Anfield Road end. The French international striker clipped in Madrid's third from close range just before half-time, leaving Brendan Rodgers' charges with a mountain that proved impossible to scale for the remainder of the tie. Rodgers had opted for three alterations to the Liverpool XI that ultimately prevailed in dramatic circumstances at Queens Park Rangers last weekend - Joe Allen, Philippe Coutinho and Alberto Moreno received the nod for a position from the start. As expected, and requested by the captain on the eve of the contest, the capacity crowd ...
Messi thinks faster than anyone - Neymar Following Barcelona's 3-1 win over Ajax, the Brazilian hailed the Blaugrana's teamwork and also underlined their excitement at getting to face Real Madrid on Saturday Oct 22, 2014 10:59:19 Neymar has showered Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi with praise for his quick-thinking as the duo continued their fine goalscoring form in Tuesday's 3-1 win over Ajax. Both the Brazilian and the Argentine scored as Luis Enrique's men bagged all three points in their third Champions League group game of the season, sending them on to six points - one behind Group F leaders Paris Saint-Germain. Neymar has now scored 10 times in as many games this season, while Messi has nine goals in 11 matches, and the Brazil forward believes their teamwork is reaping rewards in 2014-15. "What we are doing is helping our team score goals with our passes," Neymar, 22, told reporters after the win at Camp Nou. "Messi is the best, he thinks faster than everyone else [in football]. Overall, the team ...
Uefa Champions League Posted on October 21, 2014 by john Rodgers: Ronaldo is off the charts(PA) Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists his side cannot become too focused on stopping Cristiano Ronaldo in the Champions League this week as Real Madrid have enough quality to hurt them elsewhere. Real’s other flying forward Gareth Bale is unlikely to feature because of an injury which kept him out of the weekend’s 5-0 win over Levante but Ronaldo will undoubtedly take centre stage in the Group B clash at Anfield on Wednesday. The Portugal international arrives on the back of breaking at 71-year La Liga record by scoring 15 goals in the first eight matches of the season and while his talent cannot be under-estimated, Rodgers stressed it would be foolish to focus solely on him.
No snoozing for Barça before 'Clásico' Barcelona will be desperate to gain all three points against Ajax after losing 3-2 against Paris Saint-Germain in the last round of Champions League matches. Luis Enrique's team suffered their only loss of the season in the French capital, in a result that began the debate as to the La Liga leaders' ability to compete against the top teams. They now have the opportunity to compensate for that slip-up against an Ajax side currently on one point less than Barcelona after a draw in each of their first two games. The 'Azulgranas' should use their energies carefully as on Saturday they play the 'Superclásico' against Real Madrid. It's likely, therefore, that Luis Enrique will make some changes. Ivan Rakitic didn't play against Eibar, which makes it seem certain he will be in the starting eleven. Andrés Iniesta, a substitute against Eibar, should also start. The biggest unknown surrounds the goalkeeping position. German youngster Marc-André ter Stegen started in Paris ...
The Whites will play twice in the Champions League, four times in La Liga and also get the Copa Del Rey kicked off against Cornellà.

Why not hang on as we peruse the uphill and the valley of what transpired round the ever-exciting world of football. You can call it the London war. It was a fight between two clubs which lay claim to the rulership and the pride of London as far as football is concern. Chelsea, the Supremo of the western part of London played host to Arsenal, the Emperor of the North London. Thus, the most populous city in the UK was agog with the clash of the Titans. The Portugal star took his league tally to a remarkable 11 goals in just four matches as Karim Benzema got two of his own Cristiano Ronaldo scored his third hat-trick in four La Liga matches as Real Madrid smashed Athletic Bilbao 5-0 on Sunday. The Portugal international had trained alone in the build-up to the match due to the problem suffered in Wednesday's Champions League victory over Ludogorets, but he showed no ill effects to take his tally to 13 goals in six La Liga games so far this season.
Manchester United are looking into the possibility of bringing former centre-back Gerard Pique back to Old Trafford in January. The Spain international left the Red Devils to rejoin his boyhood club Barcelona in May 2008 for £5miilion, but according to the Express, United are hoping to lure him back to England for a second time. After being a regular for the La Liga giants in his 6 full seasons there, Pique is now less of a guarantee on new manager’s Luis Enrique’s team sheet, with Javier Mascherano and summer acquisition Jeremy Mathieu appearing to be the first-choice centre-back pairing this term. Signing a world-class defender is certainly United boss Louis Van Gaal’s priority when the transfer window re-opens in the New Year, and Pique would undoubtedly fit the bill. Since his return to the Nou Camp, the 27-year-old has picked up 4 La Liga titles and 2 Champions League trophies with the Catalan side, as well as 1 European Championships and 1 World Cup with Spain. Pique only signed a new 5-year ...
Sep 22, 2014 Diego Costahas denied claims he apologised to Chelseafans for his part in their Champions League defeat to his Atletico Madridside last season. The Brazil-born striker reportedly expressed his regret at converting a penalty during los Colchoneros’ 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge last season which eliminated the Blues from the competition. However, the 25-year-old has now insisted that these were not his words and he would not have made disparaging remarks about the team with which he won La Liga “It is impossible that something against Atleti comes out of my mouth,” Costa told Tiempo de Juego. “How am I going to speak ill of a team that have given me everything? I’ll be careful and just say things when they have to be given.” Costa, who scored a record seven goals in his first four Premier League appearances but could not find the net in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City, added he is aiming for more silverware this term. “I knew I could not always score, but I work to score. . ...

IS JOSÉ BUILDING THE GREAT ENTERTAINERS FOR ABRAMOVICH? ~ HAVING SCORED 16GOALS BUT CONCEDED 7. Jose Mourinho might not appreciate the comparison but right now his Chelsea team more closely resemble Newcastle United in their heady days under Kevin Keegan than anything he has assembled before. Chelsea so far are the great entertainers&have scored&conceded more goals after 5 matches than any previous Mourinho team. Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw vs Schalke in the Champions League means Chelsea have found the net 16 times but had their own defence breached on 7 occasions. For a man so focused on tactical tightness that total is anathema to Mourinho, even if his side remain unbeaten. Only in his 2011-12 season at Real Madrid has Mourinho started a season anywhere like this 1 at Stamford Bridge. Back then after 5games in all competitions Real had scored 15goals&conceded 6. Ominous signals for the Premier League chasing pack; Real won La Liga that season, scoring a frankly ridiculous 121 times for a plus 89goal di ...
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho comments on relationship with Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo ose Mourinho is fondly remembered by his former FC Porto, Chelsea and Inter Milan players, but not so by the Real Madrid ones. That’s because during the end of his three-year spell as the Spanish club’s coach, he fell out with pretty much all the members of the team. Luka Modric, Diego Lopez and Michael Essien (on loan from Chelsea to Madrid for 2012-13) were reportedly just a handful of players who did not fall out with Mourinho. / gettyimages.com Fellow Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo backed Mourinho until towards the end of the 2012-13 campaign when the now Chelsea manager claimed that Madrid started the 2012-13 league season ‘in a sad state’, alluding to the 29-year-old’s revelation of being sad at the club back in September 2012. Mourinho won La Liga and the Copa Del Rey once each at Madrid and led the team to three successive Champions League semi-finals, but his time in the Spanish capital is replete w ...
Champions League - Real Madrid v Basel preview: Madrid seek to get back on track Team news, match facts and manager quotes for the Champions League game between Real Madrid and Basel at the Bernabeu. PREAMBLE Just as the Cup's first edition in 1956 was won by Real Madrid, so the Spanish aristocrats begin tournament number 60 as holders and warm favourites, even after their underwhelming start to the La Liga campaign. Even without AC Milan and Manchester United, 10-times winners between them, in this year's draw, there is predictability to what will eventuate. It is no coincidence that the four favourites this season - Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Chelsea - are also the last four heavyweight winners of the trophy. The last genuine surprise winners? Jose Mourinho's Porto in 2004, 18 of the last 19 winners having come from one of the continent's big four leagues - La Liga, Bundesliga, Premier League and Serie A. The Champions League is not big on fairytales. Here is another predictable predictio ...

Eto’o, who on Tuesday signed a two year contract with English Premier League side Everton, played just one match — a 1-0 defeat to Mexico — in his fourth World Cup campaign (1998, 2002, 2010, 2014). Capped 116 times, he won two Africa Cup of Nations titles in 2000 and 2008, a competition in which he is the all-time leading scorer with 18 goals. He is also Cameroon’s record scorer with 55 goals. His biggest triumph with the national side was winning Olympic gold in Sydney in 2000. Despite his failure to inspire his team on the World Cup stage he won trophies with all his clubs including Champions League titles – two with Barcelona and one with Inter Milan. As well as his four African player of the year titles he was also the top scorer in La Liga en 2006.

Atletico Madrid have reportedly begun negotiations with Chelsea over the possible transfer of Andre Schurrle to the La Liga champions. This would be at least the third time that the two clubs have discussed transfers this summer, however this time the movement of players could be in the opposite direction. Atletico were impressed by Schurrle’s performances in the World Cup, and sense an opportunity as the player was by no means a regular starter for Jose Mourinho’s team last season. Eden Hazard will no doubt start the season as first choice winger this season, and it remains to be seen whether Schurrle will be able to oust Willian from the other flank, whilst also fending off Oscar and Mohamed Salah in the fierce competition for attacking players Chelsea has. It would make sense for Chelsea to sign a foreign player. Currently they have one more than the Uefa Champions League squad lists will allow, and it does not appear that Jose Mourinho has decided on a player that he would be happy to lose from hi ...
Gareth Bale returned to his native Cardiff on Tuesday night as star-studded Real started the new campaign as they finished the last one – with a trophy. Cristiano Ronaldo’s double secured a 2-0 Super Cup victory for the Champions League winners over La Liga rivals Sevilla as the Wales international again exhibited his trademark pace and power. Bale set up Ronaldo’s first goal with a sublime cross and the world’s most expensive player, following his £86m move from Tottenham a year ago, expects Real to be a major force again this season. “When I came to Madrid I wanted to settle down off the pitch as soon as possible because I knew if I could concentrate on my football I knew what I was capable of,” Bale said after Real’s triumph at the Cardiff City Stadium. “I know everybody in the squad now. I feel comfortable and the second season you’re obviously feeling a lot better.” “In sport anything can happen but hopefully we’ll be strong again. We feel confident and will be trying our har ...
Real Madrid vs. Sevilla: Preview of the European Super Cup This year, Real Madrid, winner of the 2013-14 Uefa Champions League, take on La Liga rivals Sevilla, who pipped Benfica to the 2014 UEFA Europa League title in May. Let's take a tactical look at how this game could pan out. Real Madrid Setup The big question regarding Real Madrid's setup has already been answered by Carlo Ancelotti, who insisted ahead of the match that James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos "will [both] play from the start," (via RealMadrid.com). Plenty of speculation has followed the club after signing both players to an already stacked squad, and it's expected that Gareth Bale will start too given that he's back in his home city of Cardiff. Marcelo, Xabi Alonso and Sami Khedira could all miss the XI, while Ancelotti also confirmed that Keylor Navas must wait for his Blancos debut after selecting Iker Casillas to feature instead. Everyone is eager to see if Real Madrid switch from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1 to accommodate their new No. 10s, and to ...
Central defender Raphael Varane has been unhappy with his playing time and wages at Real Madrid, and a move to Chelsea could be in his future. Reuters As manager Jose Mourinho said earlier this week, possessing two of the best goalkeepers in the world in Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois is a good problem for Chelsea to have heading into the new Premier League term. The Great One meant it more from a competition standpoint, with the Czech and 10-year Stamford Bridge netminder and budding Belgian 22-year-old pushing each other to greater heights. But now Mourinho’s phrasing has taken on new meaning, with the Blues leveraging the position battle into a possible deal for a young, top-flight defender. Mourinho has been enamored with Real Madrid central defender Raphael Varane well before he brought the French international to the Bernabeu in 2011, and now he could facilitate a move to London with Los Blancos keen on acquiring the 32-year-old Cech for their coming La Liga and Champions League runs, The Express ...

Posted by Ameen Rabbani Real Madrid have sounded out Real Sociedad centre-back Inigo Martinez as the first option to replace Raphael Varane, should the Frenchman leave the club in this summer. It has been reported that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is interested in signing the 21-year-old and should a deal go ahead, then Real will turn their attention to Martinez, who was told of Los Blancos’ interest last December, according to Marca. The Spanish paper say Real see him as an ideal replacement and the player himself is willing to make the move to the Bernabeu but a stumbling block in a deal could be negotiating with the Basques who will hold out for the €30 million release clause. Filipe Luis has signed for Chelsea in a deal worth £20million, according to reports. After months of negotiations with Atletico Madrid, it seems Jose Mourinho has finally caved in and paid full asking price for the man who he sees as a direct replacement for Ashley Cole. According to The Sun, Luis, 28, has agreed terms at Stamford Bridge and will compete with Cesar Azpilicueta for the left-back spot next season. The Brazilian full-back was instrumental in Atletico’s march to La Liga glory last season, and shone in their astonishing run to the Champions League final, which they lost in extra-time to Real Madrid. Luis will become Chelsea’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa and Croatian youngster Mario Pasalic.
I don't get Diego Costa he wins the La Liga with Atletico Madrid goes to the final of Uefa Champions League and then goes to Chelsea
BENFICA are preparing a £6m move for Fraser Forster after losing keeper Jan Oblak to Atletico Madrid in a megabucks deal. Money is no object for the Portuguese giants after banking a staggering £18m from the La Liga champions who have now ditched their interest in Celtic keeper Forster. Atletico were considering the England squad man as a replacement for Belgian Thibaut Courtois who is returning to Chelsea after a loan spell in Spain but instead they are ready to secure rising Slovenian star Oblak. The 21-year-old yesterday passed a medical and is poised to join Diego Simeone’s Champions League finalists. That leaves Portuguese champions Benfica in desperate need of a new keeper and, with Atletico out the race, Forster is top of their wanted list. The 26-year-old former Newcastle man is under contract until 2016 but Celtic have been bracing themselves for bids and new boss Ronny Deila has already snapped up ex-Scotland No.1 Craig Gordon. Celtic last year accused Benfica of tapping up Forster and tryin ...
Confirmed: Chelsea reach agreement for Diego Costa Chelsea have reached an agreement for the signing of Atletico Madrid’s Spanish international Diego Costa, according to the club’s official website. They have met his purported £32 million buy-out clause, allowing them to sign the striker. Costa has been a long-term target for Chelsea, with manager Jose Mourinho keen on revamping his attacking options this summer. Samuel Eto’o has already departed the club, with both Fernando Torres and Romelu Lukaku consistently linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge this summer. Goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has signed a new one-year contract with Chelsea. The former Australia international, 41, made 13 appearances for Jose Mourinho's side after joining on a free transfer from Fulham last summer. One of those outings came in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid following an injury to Petr Cech. Meanwhile, Chelsea have announced the exit of another back-up goalkeeper, Hilario, after eight years at the club. Mourinho confirmed last month that Belgian international keeper Thibaut Courtois would return to Chelsea after three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid. The 22-year-old helped the Spanish side to the La Liga title this season and a place in the Champions League final.

New Manchester United signing Ander Herrera will be sorely missed by Athletic Bilbao and a treat for the Red Devils As gestation periods go, nine months seems an appropriate length of time to wait on the arrival of a midfielder messiah. Last September Manchester United, in farcical circumstances, failed to complete a deal on transfer deadline for Athletic Bilbao maestro, Ander Herrera, but it seems that the Old Trafford club have finally got their man. Since then, Herrera and the Premier League side have had contrasting fortunes. Whereas the former Zaragoza man has seen his current club reach the Champions League for the first time since 1997, United spent the campaign struggling to cope in the post-Ferguson era. After the move collapsed, Herrera struggled to concentrate for a month, not helped by new Athletic boss Ernesto Valverde changing his position to a more attacking one. Once he forgot his failed move to England, Herrera and Athletic proved to be a force to be reckoned with in La Liga, eventually f ...

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is confident Diego Costa's transfer to Stamford Bridge from Atletico Madrid will be completed soon. And Mourinho is confident Costa will be on the books of the west London club ahead of the new Premier League season. Johan Cruyff has claimed Real Madrid have been lucky in their Champions League victory, after having scored the equaliser against Atletico Madrid in the 93rd minute of the final. “Real Madrid can’t complain of the luck they’ve had. As we the Dutch say, you can’t trust the Germans in the last five minutes because they always score. It’s the same here. The match is not over until the referee whistles,” Cruyff said in an interview with Spanish radio station COPE. The Former Barcelona manager refuesed to recognise that Los Blancos have been the best team in Europe this season. “In one football game you can’t say that a team is the best in Europe. I saw Bayern Munich winning and being successful, but they relaxed after winning the Bundesliga. Real had a strong team and played at 200% against them. We can say the same about the end of La Liga with Real, Barcelona and Atletico,” he pointed out. Cruyff also spoke about the World Cup that will kick off in two weeks: “Spain have all their men pl ...
Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the world's most marketable footballer. The 29-year-old Portuguese forward may have missed out on La Liga title but, after ending the season by winning the Champions League, Ronaldo can look forward to the World Cup knowing he is the most liked player on the planet. It is based on marketing research that involved a global study looking at measured perceptions of over 6,500 people in 13 countries. The index used measured the public perception of eight different attributes of the players including appeal and influence on modern society. Almost 84 per cent of people surveyed had heard of Ronaldo with 72 per cent revealing they 'liked' the Former Manchester United star. Lionel Messi was second ahead of his Barcelona team-mate Gerard Pique whose global presence has risen thanks to his relationship with singer Shakira. Fernando Torres may have struggled for form since his move to Chelsea, but being well known in markets like China has contributed to the strik ...

Lessons from the 2014 UCL Final (1) Real Madrid set Lisbon on fire as they made a dramatic comeback to defeat city rivals Atlético Madrid in the Uefa Champions League final on Saturday. Uruguayan defender Diego Godín gave Atlético a first-half lead in the 36th minute when he looped the ball over goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who had left his goal line in order to make a clearance. Real pressed hard for an equaliser, only to be denied by the newly crowned La Liga champions. Diego Simeone's men held up under intense pressure from Los Blancos and were 90 seconds away from lifting the trophy. Then the unexpected happened. Sergio Ramos headed a Luka Modric corner past Thaibut Courtois in injury time and forced the game into extra time. Then Gareth Bale put Real in the lead in 110th minute. In 1966 the Eurovision song contest was won by Austria, the Champions League was won by Real Madrid, La Liga was won by Athético Madrid and the World Cup was won by England.
Last night's result has thrown up some fascinating reaction from people around the world. Real Madrid seem to have done an act of blasphemy by putting up such a stunning performance, not just last night but throughout the Champions League and most of the La Liga season.     Football fans who are not biased fanatics of a single team... (and lets be honest there will hardly be any from Atletico since the beginning of the season) seem to have found extreme loyalty for the Los Rojiblancos. And when you think of it, the underdogs have always received that.     It was Atletico Madrid this season, BVB Dortmund the last time, Bayern Munich twice the years before. Then there was Inter Milan who went on to win it in 09-10. Liverpool with their Istanbul comeback. Porto when Mourinho came in the limelight.     And these are just a few that I could think of.     Come to think of these examples and most of the times, all that these teams end up achieving is a single successful reason. There is no increased inco ...
Gareth Bale helped Real Madrid win their 10th European Cup as they finally overwhelmed arch-rivals Atletico Madrid in a compelling Champions League final in Lisbon. The emphatic scoreline after extra time does no justice to the drama that unfolded at Estadio da Luz as Atletico stood moments from winning the trophy for the first time only to end exhausted and well beaten. Diego Godin capitalised on an error from Real's veteran goalkeeper Iker Casillas to give Diego Simeone's newly crowned La Liga champions a first-half lead, one they protected with fierce intensity until 90 seconds from the end of five minutes of stoppage time when Sergio Ramos headed in Luka Modric's corner.
Atletico Madrid proved that in this crazy monetary modern football, you still can compete and challenge at all front in the highest level without wasting a large sum of money, because after all, determination, team-work, eagerness and passion succesfully led them to the excellent season to their standard, La Liga winner Champions League runner-up Copa Del Rey semi-finalista Hala Atlético Madrid!
Congratulations to Atletico Madrid on an AMAZING season, La Liga winners, Champions League finalist, could hardly get …
Harsh scoreline considering how well they played. Big ups to Atletico. Played like true champs all season. Glad that they at least have the La Liga to show for it. Congratulations Real Madrid for ending their 12 year Champions League drought. After extra time, it's Real Madrid 4 - Atletico Madrid 1. [Aon]
12 Noon Houston, Texas 5/24/2014 first ever European Cup Final to be contested by two teams from the same city takes place on Saturday as two sides from the Spanish capital head over the border to Lisbon. It is a big moment for both as Real Madrid look to win their 10th European Cup in their history, which would put them three clear of the nearest challengers in Milan. This is a moment the club have been waiting for since 2002 and none of the fans would have expected to have had to wait over a decade to have another chance to win the Champions League. Carlo Ancelotti can also make history by becoming the second manager to win three European Cups after Bob Paisley and it would just continue the love affair with the competition for the Italian who also won two European Cups as a player. Real Madrid couldn't quite hang on to their title challenge in Spain, but the feeling has been that the club have focused on this game ever since they beat Bayern Munich in the Semi Final. It has been a strong Champions Leag ...

Atletico Madrid will give Diego Costa and Arda Turan every chance to be fit for Saturday's Champions League final against city rivals Real Madrid. Costa has been treated in Belgrade using horse placenta after tearing a hamstring during last weekend's 1-1 draw with Barcelona . Turan injured a hip against Barca. "They trained better yesterday but we will see how they both train here and how they feel. We will decide on what we see," said coach Diego Simeone. Costa has scored 36 goals this season but Simeone is confident his title-winning squad has enough ability to cope if either man fails to make it. "They are just names. Both are important players with the team but there are other players who know they will be playing if Diego or Arda don't so we are working in preparation for whatever happens." Real coach Carlo Ancelotti expects Cristiano Ronaldo to be fit. Ronaldo has been troubled by a hamstring injury ahead of the showpiece in his home country and missed Real's last two La Liga games, withdrawing from ...

La Liga might have concluded, but there’s still one last exciting bout to come this season from two of its biggest teams. Key head-to-heads in Saturday's Champions League final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. Real players listed first: Iker Casillas v Thibaut Courtois A clash of youth and experience. Courtois, 22, may be a more complete goalkeeper, with his extra height giving him an advantage with crosses, but 33 year-old Casillas has shown on many occasions that he has a knack of producing something special when required. Courtois has been a fundamental feature of the Atletico side all season and has made vital saves while Casillas has lost his first-team place in La Liga to Diego Lopez but has delivered when called on. Sergio Ramos v Diego Godin There is little to choose between two defensive titans who provide leadership and personality at the back. Atletico's success has been based on their solidity and Godin plays a commanding role while Real are a more adventurous team and Ramos is the more comfortable player with the ball at his feet. Both have scored key goals this season in the air but Ramos is more adept ...
WHEN FOOTBALL PREVAIL OVER EVIL Roman Abramovich considers replacing Mourinho with Simeone Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is questioning whether he made the right choice hiring Jose Mourinho last summer after a poor season at Stamford Bridge. According to Le 10 Sport, the Russian oligarch is considering the possibility of sacking Mourinho less than a year after the Special One started his second stint in charge of Chelsea. The Blues have had a poor season by Abramovich's high standards, winning nothing and finishing third behind Manchester City and Liverpool. Mourinho has claimed Chelsea's failing have been down to a lack of strikers, refusing to take the blame for himself. Meanwhile, Diego Simeone has inspired Atletico Madrid to a famous La Liga title victory and could also win the Champions League on a tiny budget compared to Chelsea's. Needless to say, Abramovich sees Simeone as a potential future manager of Chelsea and could even offer him the job this summer if he does decide to sack Mourinho. Not on ...
Schurrle's CL final regret. Chelsea's Andre Schurrle admits he will be full of regret when he watches Saturday's Champions League final in Lisbon. Spanish rivals Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid will lock horns in a battle to be crowned European kings, with the game live on Sky Sports 1HD. Diego Simeone's La Liga champions booked their place in the final after overcoming Jose Mourinho's Chelsea 3-1 over two legs, with all the goals coming in the Stamford Bridge leg after a goalless draw in Spain. Chelsea's campaign unravelled after the defeat to Atletico, as Norwich held on for a 0-0 draw in the following game to put a huge dent in the Blues' Premier League title bid. Schurrle, who scored in the final-day win at Cardiff City to ensure they at least finished on a high note, has promised Chelsea will 'come back stronger next season'. But he admits he will be wondering what could have been when he watches the European showpiece on Saturday. Schurrle told the Daily Star: "We're disappointed because we didn't w ...
Louis Van Gaal has been announced as Manchester United's new manager and many are expecting him to bring the glory days of Sir Alex Ferguson back to Old Trafford. But who is the 62-year-old? Soccer Laduma takes a look at the Dutchmen's career. Van Gaal’s playing days were not as successful as his managerial ones. He played for the second team of Ajax Amsterdam, but was never good enough to join the first team which had great players such as Johan Cruyff and Johan Neeskens. Following a spell in Belgium’s top flight and for weaker Dutch sides, he moved into management as 35-year-old. In 1991, he took over Ajax and won three league titles, the UEFA Cup and the Champions League with the young squad – a side which included stars like Patrick Kluivert, Denis Bergkamp, the de Boer brothers and Clarence Seedorf. Following his success at Ajax, he moved to FC Barcelona were he won two La Liga titles and one Copa Del Rey. But after clashes with the media and players such as Rivaldo he left the club in 2000. ** ...
If Atletico Madrid win a first Champions League title by beating rivals Real Madrid they will become the most successful team in the club's history, eclipsing the La Liga and King's Cup double winners of 1996.
TWELVE years have passed have since Real Madrid last won the Uefa Champions League against Bayer Leverkusen. In the early hours of Sunday morning (Australian time) Carlo Ancelotti’s squad of superstars will have the opportunity to rectify that against derby rivals and La Liga winner Atletico Madrid. With nine European Cups to its name, Real Madrid is the most successful side in the competition’s history, yet it hasn’t been able to capture that elusive tenth since Zinedine Zidane smashed home that sumptuous volley to win the 2002 decider at Glasgow’s Hampden Park. Indeed, the club hasn’t even made it back to the final, falling short at the semi-final stage four times. To appreciate Real’s relentless pursuit of continental dominance, one must first understand the role of politics, fostered by the club’s presidents, mainly Florentino Perez after the 2002 triumph. Chelsea are weighing up selling Petr Cech this summer. The Telegraph says Chelsea will consider allowing Cech to leave Stamford Bridge if the goalkeeper does not want to be understudy to Thibaut Courtois. The young Belgian is seemingly ready to get his chance at Stamford Bridge, after a mightily impressive side which could see him win the Europa League, Champions League and La Liga crown. Chelsea could demand more than £10 million for Cech and save on his £100,000-a-week wages. Courtois has been offered a new five-year contract worth around £70,000 a week

'Diego Simeone' is THE Special One this year. Not only he made 'Atletico Madrid' win the La Liga title, he took this team to the Final of Champions League as well (this year). Well deserved title by Atletico and hang on there Mr. Simeone, you have to win the Champions league final too. :)
Today sees some huge football matches across Europe. Arsenal play Hull City in the FA Cup Final at Wembley at 17:00 BST, while across the border St Johnstone play Dundee United in the Scottish Cup final a couple of hours earlier. In Spain, Barcelona host Atletico Madrid in a winner takes all La Liga title decider, while in Germany, the country's two footballing giants, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, will contest the German Cup Final in Berlin at 19:00. Starting with Arsenal. This is a Cup I will like them to win despite our rivalry. Arsene Wenger's side has not won a trophy since the 2005 FA Cup. When Arsenal face Hull City today at Wembley, it will be four days short of nine years since Manager Arsene Wenger last sampled the joy of lifting a trophy. Since the moment Patrick Vieira's final kick as an Arsenal player secured victory on penalties over Manchester United at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in 2005, Wenger and the Gunners have been forced to measure their success in terms of Champions League ...

Real Madrid-Espanyol Preview: Ancelotti's men face Champions League final warm-up Real Madrid end their Liga season against Espanyol on Saturday - but all eyes will be on another capital versus Catalunya clash at Camp Nou. A run of three games without victory has ended any hopes Real had of winning La Liga, so their meeting with Javier Aguirre's side represents little more than an undercard clash ahead of the title-deciding bout between their arch-rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, which kicks off two hours later. Carlo Ancelotti's men have taken just two points from their last three league fixtures, meaning they have gone more than two Liga games without winning for the first time since May 2009. Real's poor run of domestic form has followed their stunning 4-0 Champions League semi-final second-leg demolition of Bayern Munich. And it is safe to say Ancelotti will now have more than one eye on next Saturday's Champions League showpiece with neighbours Atletico, when Real go in search of their long-awai ...
WHO WINS LA LIGA? Believe me, I had routed for Athletico Madrid for more than half the season, willing them to finally break the duopoly called the Spanish League. I had stood behind Diego Simeone all the while, wishing the Argentine to announce the arrival of the fresh and younger managers that will rattle the modern day coaching arena dominated by the likes of Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, Roberto Martinez and others, who are threatening to force out the older guard in Arsene Wenger, Louis Van Gaal, Carlo Ancelotti and the likes. But I hadn’t counted with Barcelona not winning any other trophy. Now, I’m faced with the dilemma of seeing Athletico win deservedly and seeing Lionel Messi go trophyless in a World Cup season! Messi is just too big a player to go trophyless in any season. So, if I am given the opportunity, I’d give Barca the La Liga trophy, for Messi’s sake, then give the Champions League to Athletico, for Simeone’s sake. However, may the best side get their reward.
Both Europa League & Champions League winners are from La Liga.
Barca v Atletico Madrid for La Liga title this weekend. Then AM has the Champions League final the week after!!
Lots of history lessons about on FB tonight. I like this one best: The last time Austria won the Eurovision contest before last night was 1966. Also in 1966: - Atletico Madrid won La Liga - Real Madrid won the European Cup - Liverpool FC won the league On the flip side of that is that NO team has EVER gone from 7th the season before to Champions. It's a fact. Some say its a do or die night for the REDS. I don't think so. The progress shown under 'Buck' Rodgers is a virtual guarantee that the league title will come sooner rather than later. Whatever happens tonight, it's been an outstanding season for the REDS and either we are champions in 3 and a half hours or we're runners-up and in the Uefa Champions League next year as well. That's not too shabby eh? Let the Good Times Roll!
Atletico Madrid boss unveils Atletico Kolkata... ... KOLKATA : The owner of Spanish giants Atletico Madrid predicted exciting times for football in cricket-mad India Wednesday as he revealed one of the teams lining up in a controversial new league would be called Atletico Kolkata. The Spanish club, who are in the final of this year's Champions League and top of La Liga, are co-owners of the Kolkata franchise in the newly-created Indian Super League (ISL) that kicks off in September.
Atletico Madrid now find themselves in the unique position of being cheered on by Real Madrid fans to win the league and by Barcelona fans to win the Champions League. Bye bye, La Liga.
You beat Bayern, you get lucky with the Levante win and then you play this carelessly and concede twice against Valencia? I hope we win the Champions League, because a Copa Del Rey title will not be enough this time and will feel like a failure to me after such stinkers in La Liga.
If Atletico win La Liga and the Champions League, I doubt Costa will come tbh
Atlético Madrid deserves to win the Champions League and La Liga what a team. Playing great attacking football and working as a team!
3 reasons why Atletico Madrid will win Champions League: 1. They are the best team in La Liga and not Real Madrid. 2. The teams considered favorites to reach finals, crashed out in semis. 3. Last six years, the team that beat Barcelona has gone on to win Champions league. The best league in the world will now feature 3 out of 4 finalists in 2014 European club football. Watch out for Spain in WC!
Chelsea welcome La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid for the ever-so-important second leg of the Champions League semi-final to the Stamford Bridge.
Atletico Madrid will fall into Chelsea's defensive trap in tomorrow night's Champions League semi- final, according to European Football expert Guillem Balague. The writer and pundit has seemingly changed his mind from what he said earlier this week - with him then predicting a tight Atletico win. But with Jose Mourinho's men ensuring a clean sheet last week in Spain after denying their opponents any significant opportunities, including hot shot Diego Costa who was constantly denied space, Balague thinks the La Liga leaders could fall victim to the Blues strategy as they try and press for a win. The Portuguese employed the same tactic in the 2-0 win over Liverpool at the weekend that has blown the title race wide open - with Chelsea's rearguard action resulting in Brendan Rodgers accusing the Blues of "parking two buses". And Balague fears the same will happen tomorrow night and set-up a Chelsea-Real Madrid final that sees Mourinho taking on the side he left just last year. "Atletico will feel obliged to ...
The former Real Madrid club chief criticised the way that the Portuguese acted while in charge at Santiago Bernabeu and praised his successor, Carlo Ancelotti, for his own methods Jose Mourinho's misbehaviour made him the wrong man to be in charge at Real Madrid, according to former club president Ramon Calderon. Mourinho guided Los Blancos to three Champions League semi- finals and won one La Liga title, one Copa Del Rey and one Supercopa de Espana during his three-year spell at Santiago Bernabeu before departing by mutual consent for Chelsea last summer. The Portuguese was constantly at odds with the Spanish press and was rumoured to have irked a number of first-team players in his final campaign at the club, with his benching of Iker Casillas in favour of Diego Lopez a particular sore point among supporters. Madrid snapped up ex-AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti from Paris Saint-Germain to replace him and, with a treble still potentially up for grabs this season, Calderon believes that getting rid of Mour ...
Atletico Madrid star Diego Costa admitted he didn't understand Chelsea fans serenading him at last week's Champions League semi-final first leg. The striker is No 1 on the Blues most-wanted list this summer, but insisted he is happy at the La Liga leaders.
After Jose Mourinho's Big Gamble, His Champions League Moment of Truth Arrives NEXT ARTICLE » Jon Super All eyes were on Jose Mourinho at Anfield as his tactics frustrated Liverpool Andy Brassell Apr 29, 2014 3 Comments Two down, one to go. On paper, the last week couldn’t have gone much better for Chelsea. Jose Mourinho may still divide opinion like few others in the world of football, but to come away from crunch matches at Atletico Madrid and Liverpool with a pair of clean sheets is something that deserves recognition. This week, we will see exactly how much the former one is worth. Against Diego Simeone’s side, who have kept six clean sheets in a row themselves in La Liga and Champions League, Chelsea have no margin for error against opponents who have been expected to slip up all season—but that haven’t yet. The dispute of the validity of Mourinho’s tactics at Anfield is strange. Despite Brendan Rodgers’ barb that “putting 10 players right on your 18-yard box is not difficult to coach ...
"Our idea is to score goals. We've scored many this season." "We we want to win La Liga and the Champions League." "To score 2 or 3 goals against Real Madrid is not an easy task, but we will try with all our strength." "I wish Bayern Munich luck and I'm convinced they will eliminate Real Madrid." Benzema: "It doesn't matter who scores. The important thing is to score and reach the final."
English Premier League - the best league in the world. I know after reading this some of you might comment below saying La Liga or Bundesliga or even the Serie-A is better in the quality of football they produce than in England. Yes, I certainly agree with that. BUT, if you talk about competitiveness - who can beat the EPL? Other league's are dominated by the top clubs. Always. And are more predictable. But in EPL, Chelsea might lose game against Sunderland and next week beat the most inform team Liverpool. There is not only the race for title very competitive & unpredictable but also there is another very competitive race for Top 4 Champions League spot, Europa League spot and then the mouth watering but heartbreaking relegation battle, 2 games to go and still can't predict who will get relegated or who will become the Champion. Mind blowing! That's why we love the English Premier League.
Di Maria is currently the top assister in La Liga (14) and the Champions League (5)... :D
MADRIDISTA FIRMER'S predictions (for 2013/2014 football season); August 2013 till January 2014. Some of them have gone wrong, some of them have come to pass, some of them are still in the pipeline. 1. Either Chelsea or Manchester City will win the Premier League. 2. Gareth Bale will NOT shine at Real Madrid. I won't be satisfied with Bale till he scores the winning goal in the Champions League final. 3. Arsenal will self-destruct in January. They can never win the league. 4. Real Madrid will win the treble. 5. Barcelona CAN go through the whole La Liga season unbeaten if they keep up this kind of play. Good job, Tata. 6. Ricky Van Wolfwinskel (the new Huntelaar) will shine in the EPL. 7. Bayern Munich will EASILY win the German Bundesliga. 8. La Decima will happen this year if we get to the finals. 9. David Moyes will not last for even a season at Manchester United. He will not succeed. Forget the Community Shield he won. 10. Arsenal will win a trophy this season, but it is DEFINITELY NOT the English Prem ...
Carlo Ancelotti insists Real Madrid will be putting the emphasis firmly on attack when they visit Bayern Munich for the second leg of their Champions League semifinal on Tuesday. Madrid hold a 1-0 advantage from the first leg at the Bernabeu, but Ancelotti said his intention is to extend that lead and that he would field a side featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale if the trio are fit. Speaking to the media after the 4-0 victory over Osasuna in La Liga, Ancelotti said on the club’s official website: “I'm sure that I am going to pick an XI with a lot of desire and illusion. Everyone needs to be calm as we are going to prepare well. I have a lot of confidence in the players and they all need to have it. “The objective is to score"

Sevilla-Valencia Prediction In the La Liga, Sevilla is in a race with Athletico Bilbao to *** a berth in the qualifying round of the Champions League. But Valencia is down and out in the La Liga. The team has nothing else to play for in the season. That perhaps gives them a reason to go all out for a win. Valencia or Draw 2.10 Benfica-Juventus Prediction Juventus will try hard to get the upper hand, in the form of either a win or a 1-1 or 2-2 draw. A draw appears to be a realistic result. Juventus or Draw 1.50
The fact that Casillas has started every Champions League game and not appeared in a single La Liga game has to be the oddest football statistic ever
So if Iker Casillas can play against Bayern Munich in the Champions League then why isn't Carlo Ancelotti playing him in La Liga...
Despite a three horse race at the top, La Liga has 4 of the eight semifinalists from the Champions League and Europa League.
Okay this is it: this is the worst season ever for Barcelona in the past 6 seasons and the past week has been their worst and so nightmarish. First, Atletico Madrid knocked them out of the running for the Big Eared Trophy- The Uefa Champions League, then lowly placed Granada knocked them off their perch in their quest for the La Liga title and then tonight, Los Galacticos (The Superstars), Los Blancos (The Whites) & Los Merengues ( The Dancers) Real Madrid beat them to the Copa Del Rey trophy. TIKI TAKA is FINISHED! BARCELONA needs a PLAN B
Atletico Madrid currently sit on top of the current La Liga standings with a three-point lead over second-place Real Madrid. Barcelona remain four points off the lead. With only five matches left for each side, it will be difficult to come from behind. Additionally, Barca were eliminated from Champions League, taking out one more chance to call it a successful season. As a result, they will be fighting hard in the Copa Del Rey against their biggest rivals in the latest version of El Clasico. Here is a look at what the battle means for both sides.
Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has denied that Lionel Messi is unhappy at the Camp Nou, despite the Blaugrana talisman having cut a sorry figure of late as his side suffered consecutive setbacks in the Champions League and La Liga.
I see Atletico claiming both La Liga and Champions League titles come end of May 👓
Backpass Part 1 Atletico Madrid made a smooth transition from "dark horse contender" to legitimate threat in this year's Uefa Champions League on Wednesday, dispatching Barcelona 1-0 (2-1 aggregate) at the Vicente Calderon. All this without 33-goal Diego Costa—the man whom so often rides to their rescue with a solitary, deciding goal—and Turkish speedster Arda Turan, essential to their quick-break, counterattacking philosophy. But with Atleti there is no grumbling, no kicking their feet in the sand; they got on with it, plain and simple, and plugged viable replacements into a well-oiled, nearly unbeatable system. Real Madrid have shown areas of weakness in La Liga and Europe, Bayern Munich can seemingly only turn it on when they're a goal down and Chelsea still lack a striker who can make the difference no matter what Demba Ba says. Atletico Madrid present a horror tactical matchup for any side who struggles to break down deep defensive systems set out in low-blocks. Bayern, Real and Chelsea could all ...
