Jose Mourinho has repeated his plea to Chelsea fans for a partisan Stamford Bridge when his side play Liverpool next week for a place in the Capital One Cup final. The Chelsea boss, who won the League Cup twice in his first spell at the club, was critical of the club's supporters following a victory over QPR in November, saying the team felt they were playing in an 'ewmpty stadium'. The Portuguese believes a partisan crowd can make a big difference next week as they aim to build on Tuesday's 1-1 first-leg draw at Anfield. "It was a two-leg semi-final, now it's a one-leg semi-final. That says a lot," Mourinho told Chelsea TV. "Two legs is difficult, Anfield is difficult and with this result we transform a two-leg semi-final into a one-leg semi-final at Stamford Bridge. "If Stamford Bridge can give us 25 per cent of the emotion Anfield gives Liverpool, I think we can do it. "Liverpool, instead of 40,000 fans, they will have five or 10 thousand. Chelsea, instead of 1,000, will have 40,000. I hope that can ma ...
19 January 2015 Updated 15:33 GMT Gerrard and Mourinho have both won the League Cup before Captain Steven Gerrard is set to return to the Liverpool team after being rested for the victory at Aston Villa. Adam Lallana could feature after returning as an unused substitute from a thigh injury in that game. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has an almost fully-fit squad to choose from but could choose to make a few changes. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois may return after three games out with a minor finger injury but Cesar Azpilicueta is set to miss out with a groin problem. With Premier League leaders Chelsea side still going strong in the FA Cup and Champions League, the Capital One Cup is just one of four trophies that Jose Mourinho has his eye on this season. And while its glamour and prestige may not match the other three, it would be fitting were the League Cup to be the first piece of silverware won on his return to the club. For it was also his maiden trophy in his first stint with the Blues, when Chelsea be ...
Mourinho: Good and honest Jose Mourinho has acknowledged the difficulties referees face in officiating matches, and believes they should be given as much help as possible in order to minimise mistakes. Speaking ahead of today’s trip to Swansea City, where a victory would see Chelsea move five points clear at the top of the Barclays Premier League table due to Manchester City not playing until tomorrow, the Blues boss cited the introduction of goal-line technology as one of the key benefits to the smooth running of games. ‘The less mistakes in the game the better, and clearly the referees don’t want to make mistakes, so anything they have which can help them is welcome,’ said Mourinho. ‘The goal-line technology is fantastic. I promise you, every game I play now without goal-line technology – Capital One Cup, Champions League and so on – before the game I’m worried. I miss the goal-line technology when it’s not there. ‘There is not one referee or linesman who is not happy with goal-line ...
Manchester City accepted sanctions at the end of last season for breaching the UEFA Financial Fair Play rules, among them a fine and restrictions on the club's Champions League squad. However, that has not stopped them from this week spending £28million to sign Wilfried Bony from Swansea. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho congratulated his title rivals for their acquisition, then queried the validity of FFP. "Well done, well done - good player, good striker, if they have the money and can spend it and have no problems with Financial Fair Play, well done," he said. "I think they can only play with 11, unless the rules for them are different and they can play with 12. "It looks like the rules are different for them in certain aspects, but not this one. If Bony plays and Dzeko is on the bench, I am happy with that. "Fantastic squad, one more top player for that squad to have Aguero, Jovetic, Dzeko and Bony is absolutely magnificent. I repeat, well done." Asked what other aspects are different for them, Mourinho re ...

Guardiola: Torres perfect for Atletico The coach lauded Diego Simeone's decision to bring the former club captain back to the Vicente Calderon and believes they pose a threat to Bayern's Champions League chances By Miles Chambers Jan 16, 2015 23:36:00 Former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola believes that Atletico Madrid have hit the jackpot by bringing Fernando Torres back to the Vicente Calderon. Torres left La Liga for Liverpool in 2007, one year before Guardiola famously took the reins at Camp Nou, and returned earlier this month on loan from AC Milan having flopped at San Siro and Chelsea before that. Football pundits and fans were split over whether Torres would burden another club with his lack of goals, but he stunned arch-rivals Real Madrid on Thursday by scoring a double to knock the holders out of the Copa del Rey at the last-16 stage. Guardiola, who now coaches Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, believes that the Spain international is perfectly suited to life under Diego Simeone's wing in Madrid. ...
Jose Mourinho appeared on BT Sports’ “Clare Balding Meets” in the UK over the holiday and, to our great amusement, revealed some funny stories of his days with Mario Balotelli at Inter Milan. For instance, one day Balotelli snubbed a meeting at Mourinho’s office … to go watch Formula 1 qualifying. "He said, ‘meetings in your office I can have every day, but to see the Formula 1 is only once a year in Italy’. A couple of days later I had to laugh," Mourinho said. When asked what Balotelli’s autobiography would be like, the Chelsea boss replied: ‘A funny book, a good book!’ No kidding, huh? "I could write a book of 200 pages of my two years at Inter with Mario, but the book would not be a drama – it would be a comedy," Mourinho quipped. Here’s one story that would definitely make the book: "I remember one time when we went to play Kazan in the Champions League. In that match I had all my strikers injured. No Diego Milito, no Samuel Eto'o, I was really in trouble and Mario was the onl ...

While professional footballers in the rest of Europe sleep off their Christmas hangovers, the Premier League ploughs on regardless on Friday with a bumper schedule of traditional Boxing Day fixtures. For the first time in the 2014-15 season, all 20 English top-flight clubs will be in action on the same day, with leaders Chelsea's home game against high-flying London rivals West Ham United the stand-out match. Chelsea's professional 2-0 victory at Stoke City on Monday allowed Jose Mourinho's side to re- establish a three-point lead over champions Manchester City, who visit West Bromwich Albion on Friday. The visit of fourth-place West Ham marks the start of a run of five games in less than two weeks, which includes an FA Cup third-round tie at home to second-tier Watford on January 4. Mourinho's side also remain in contention in the League Cup and the Champions League, and midfielder Nemanja Matic believes they can go all the way in all four competitions. "I think it's possible. We have a chance," the Serb ...
INTO THE CHRISTMAS BREAK... D I D. Y O U. Two trophies already in the bag (European Super Cup and Club World Cup). * Barcelona have bagged 41 goals in 16 matches - at an average of almost three per game. * Ronaldo has scored only two fewer La Liga goals than Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar combined this season. * Real Madrid had a100% record in the Champions League group stage. * Cristiano Ronaldo have scored 25 league goals in 14 matches this season. * The key to Madrid's excellent start is Carlo Ancelotti managing to do something that neither of his Bernabeu predecessors Jose Mourinho or Manuel Pellegrini could do. MY Take On Alan Padew Saying Wenger is the 2nd best Coach In the EPL and that he does not recognised Jose Mourinho as the best in the EPL, Good morning ladies and Gentlemen , the pundits , the critiques , the Fans , the followers and my fellow commentators of the Game , sincerely speaking , I don't see anything special in Alan Padew's Jibes than to compare it to normal comments make by coaches week in week out in their respective Pre- game conferences which to me is nothing but a Mind Game. The truth is that saying Wenger is the 2nd best Manager in the Legaue may be correct and right due to the fact that the Man is loyal to Arsenal Unlike Jose Mourinho who is busy Chasing Records of winning the League and Champions League trophies with various Club sides he Managed. On the issue that Jose has not done anything in Chelsea to deserves Padew respect is just like saying Manchester City will not do well in the League without Sergio Aguero , Manchester City will definitely miss Sergio Aguero over the next few . ...
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was pleased with Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s cameo appearance against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Chelsea finished their Champions League group stage campaign unbeate with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Sporting at Stamford Bridge. Cesc Fabregas opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Filipe Luis was brought down by Ricardo Esgaio inside the first ten minutes. Andre Schurrle added a second shortly after, with a fierce shot from the edge of the box following good work by Nemanj Matic. Sporting clawed a goal back in the second half through Jonathan Silva, but John Obi Mikel restored the home side's advantage and secured all three points, while Schalke's victory over Maribor meant the Lisbon side did not qualify for the knockout stages of the competition. Jose Mourinho made six changes after Chelsea's first loss of the season at Newcastle United on Saturday as the likes of Schurrle, goalkeeper Petr Cech and highly rated defender Kurt Zouma came in. The visitors, also missing the suspende Cedric, were crucially without Manchester United loanee Nani - scorer in four of their five Champions League ma ...
Having watched his side return to the victory trail and finish our Champions League group six points clear, Jose Mourinho was pleased with the approach of his players to the task on Wednesday night when our progress into the knockout stage draw as one of the top seeds was already assured. A crisp Andre Schurrle shot and a Cesc Fabregas penalty gave the Blues an early 2-0 lead against Sporting Lisbon, and although our opponents from the Portuguese capital pulled a goal back soon after the interval, John Mikel Obi’s first goal in European competition restored the cushion. Mourinho had made six line-up changes from the weekend game at Newcastle… ‘We played seriously, we were strong and we deserved to win,’ he said. ‘The ones who are playing regularly, they faced the game in the right way. Those that don’t always play, they came in very well. When the game was 2-1 there could have been some emotion but when it went to 3-1 the game was over and the better side won.’ One player who was retained fr ...

EPL- Newcastle break Chelsea's unbeaten streak: Chelsea's unbeaten start to the season ended in a dramatic 2-1 loss at Newcastle United on Saturday when Papiss Cisse struck twice to stun the Premier League leaders at St James' Park. Arsenal's hopes of a third successive victory were dashed in a 3-2 defeat at Stoke City where they trailed 3-0 at halftime and Liverpool were held to a 0-0 home draw by Sunderland. Undefeated in 23 matches in all competitions since April's Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid, Chelsea proved far from invincible as 10-man Newcastle survived a late barrage to prevent the visitors setting a record unbeaten run. Few could deny Newcastle a deserved win that lifted them to seventh in the table, although Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said his side had been unlucky to lose. The hosts lost goalkeeper Rob Elliot to injury at halftime, replaced by young rookie debutant Jak Alnwick, and had to man the barricades with only 10 men when Steven Taylor was dismissed after gettin ...
Newcastle United ended Chelsea's 23- match unbeaten run as Papiss Cisse scored two second-half goals in a tense 2-1 win over the Premier League leaders on Saturday. Cisse, who came on as a substitute after the break, tapped in Newcastle's first after 57 minutes and struck again on the break 20 minutes later, seconds after Eden Hazard had been denied an equaliser by the woodwork. Newcastle were reduced to 10 men shortly afterwards when Steven Taylor was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Andre Schuerrle before substitute Didier Drogba gave Chelsea hope of a comeback with a majestic header after 83 minutes. Chelsea applied late pressure in a nerve-jangling six minutes of stoppage time but their hopes of stretching their unbeaten run to a new club record were thwarted by dogged Newcastle resistance and a brilliant fingertip save by substitute keeper Jak Alnwick on his competitive debut. Defeat for Jose Mourinho's side, their first since the second leg of last season's Champions League semi- final again ...
It will be interesting how Jose Mourinho set the team as Neijama Matic is suspended for the game against New Castle United,, since the return to Chelsea last year Matic has been an integral part of Mourinho's tactics and has not missed a single match this season in the Premier League and even scoring in Champions League,, he has been a pillar to Chelsea's deflective line as he allows Ivanovich and Azpilicueta to drive forward through the wings and even gives Cesc more time and space on the ball,, he strength and superiority in air is praiseworthy,, and this turned out Matic to be as one of the best defensive midfielders. Though Chelsea has able players like Ramires or Mikel who can replace him but still the fans gonna miss him though its just for a match.

The star trio will hope to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in this year's team, having been shortlisted for a place in the illustrious side The shortlist for the forwards in Fifa's FIFPro World XI has been announced, with Sergio Aguero, Wayne Rooney and Diego Costa all nominated from the Premier League. The Manchester City striker leads the way, having helped his side win the Premier League in 2013-14, though injury curtailed his World Cup. Aguero has also hit the ground running this term, scoring 17 goals in 19 appearances. Rooney, meanwhile, was a rare bright spot under David Moyes, and has impressed under Louis Van Gaal, having scored his first ever World Cup goal for England at the World Cup. Costa will also fancy his chances of inclusion, with his goals last season propelling Atletico Madrid to the Champions League final, and his start under Jose Mourinho cementing his position as one of the finest strikers in world football. The Portuguese insists that the Blues will not be signing the Barcelona superstar, despite his recent revelation that he may not finish his career at the Camp Nou, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho claims rumours linking Barcelona's Lionel Messi with a move to Stamford Bridge are "obviously" false. Jose Mourinho claimed his Chelsea team is a thing of “beauty” after they racked up their biggest Champions League away win for 15 years. John Terry, Willian, Didier Drogba, Ramires and an own goal from Schalke midfielder Jan Kirchoff inflicted a crushing defeat later described by boss Roberto Di Matteo as “the most painful of my career”. Mourinho said: “This happiness, this flair, this beauty. The way we are doing things, we are very happy. “To win 5-0 in Germany is even more not normal. The performance was complete. It was very impressive. We have a good team. Obviously we can lose and the bad result is waiting for us. But the reality is the team is playing very well.”
Jose Mourinho was thrilled with the emphatic result against Schalke as well as his team’s performance which was close to perfect from the first minute to the last. The Blues romped to our equal-biggest ever away win in the Champions League tonight, with three first-half goals and two in 60 seconds after the break doing the damage. John Terry, Willian and an own goal had us 3-0 ahead at the interval and more scintillating football after the break was rewarded when substitutes Didier Drogba and then Ramires netted in quick succession. It was no less than a brilliant team performance deserved, as Mourinho acknowledged afterwards… ‘We played a fantastic match,’ the manager enthused. ‘The team is very confident. We needed to come and play and we showed that from the first minute. ‘The team was always in control playing top quality football, strong defensively, no mistakes, no real saves for Courtois, just one rebound which hit the bar. It was very impressive. ‘In the second half we didn’t need ...
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho believes his team's "perfect" performance in the 5-0 Champions League win at Schalke is one of the club's finest away performances. The Blues thrashed ex-boss Roberto Di Matteo's side to qualify for the last 16 with one Group G game remaining. "I don't remember Chelsea playing this way away from home," said Mourinho. "Obviously, there have been great wins away from home with me, Roberto and other managers. But this was very impressive. Very complete." The Premier League leaders, who are now unbeaten in 19 matches across all competitions, continued their fine form with a clinical performance in Germany. Chelsea led 3-0 at half-time after goals from John Terry, Willian and Schalke defender Jan Kirchhoff, before Didier Drogba and Ramires completed the rout in the final 15 minutes. "I think they have to accept we were too strong for them," added Mourinho, whose side inflicted Schalke's first home defeat since April. Schalke 0-5 Chelsea: Mourinho's men cruise into Champions League last 16 The Blues guaranteed a place at the top of their group after a dominating victory over club hero Roberto Di Matteo's side in Gelsenkirchen, playing some excellent football By Tony Kelshaw Nov 25, 2014 21:32:00 Chelsea romped to a 5-0 victory away against Schalke to confirm themselves as winners of their Champions League group with a game to spare. The Blues took the lead in just the second minute when John Terry headed home a corner and their superiority was clear from that point onward. Willian finished a glorious team move to double their advantage just before the half-hour before Schalke's Jan Kirchhoff, having a dreadful game and hauled off at the break moments later, inexplicably headed into his own net under no pressure from a Chelsea corner. Jose Mourinho's side continued to push in the second half and, galvanised by Didier Drogba's arrival as a substitute, scored two in quick succession through the Ivorian and then Ramires to ...

Jose Mourinho sounds distinctly unimpressed by Chelsea Football Club's 2012 UEFA Champions League win under Roberto Di Matteo. Here’s what the Blues boss has had to say...
Jose Mourinho is resigned to the prospect of losing this season but insists defeat will not lead to crisis at Stamford Bridge. The Blues can extend their unbeaten run to 18 games when they face West Brom on Saturday and victory would extend their lead over Southampton to seven points. But Mourinho does not fear the prospect of picking up a first loss of the campaign and is confident his side are strong enough mentally to bounce back from any such setback and avoid falling into a rut. "The thing that gives us confidence is the results we are getting are not occasional. They're because we're playing well," he told reporters. "We believe that, when we lose points, the next game we are going to play well again. "Against Maribor in the Champions League [earlier in November], we lost two points but in the next game we were not in crisis. We were at Liverpool to play well again. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says he has received no offers for out-of-favour goalkeeper Petr Cech. Cech has fallen behind Thibaut Courtois in contention for the number one jersey at Chelsea, prompting rumours of a move to Arsenal, AC Milan and Liverpool. But Mourinho said Cech has not been affected by speculation and continues to train "for the good of the team". "Not once has Petr knocked on the door to inform me of his desire to accept some proposal," Mourinho said. "Petr Cech is our goalkeeper and he has a contract for two more years. He is a fantastic professional." The Czech international's only Premier League appearance this season came when Courtois was substituted after sustaining a head injury during Chelsea's 2-0 win over Arsenal on 5 October. He has started in two Capital One Cup games and two Champions League games. In August Mourinho admitted Cech was "not totally happy" about losing his regular starting place. "Diego Costa is totally recovered, the same with [Andre] Schurrle. [Cesc] Fabreg ...

Chelsea fan claims he found Jose Mourinho in his Chinese and therefore puts £1k on them to win Champions League.
LIVERPOOL VS CHELSEA Chelsea hit Liverpool's Barclays Premier League title hopes at Anfield for a second straight season after a 2-1 win on Saturday. Brendan Rodgers' side came into the game looking to banish the memories of last term's corresponding fixture, Steven Gerrard's slip and the defeat which halted their trophy charge. But again they came out second best as Gary Cahill and Diego Costa overturned Emre Can's first Liverpool goal and Chelsea moved a daunting 15 points clear of the Merseysiders. Gerrard, Mario Balotelli and Jordan Henderson were recalled after being omitted from the starting line-up for the UEFA Champions League match with Real Madrid, but it was the only change from last week’s BPL defeat by Newcastle United, Can, who put the hosts ahead early on with an effort that deflected in off Cahill. The England man, against whom twice claims for handball in the Chelsea area were dismissed, atoned just five minutes later, bundling home despite Simon Mignolet's best efforts. Jose Mourinho's ...
Jose Mourinho has a stronger hand from which to play his cards than was the case at Anfield last season. Back then injury, suspension and Champions League semi-final considerations greatly.
MOURINHO: THE FIRST 11 The opening three months of the season will be completed following today’s visit to Anfield and Jose Mourinho has been assessing Chelsea’s league campaign so far. The third international break follows this weekend’s fixtures and regardless of the result against Liverpool, the Blues will go into it on top of the league table given our four-point lead over second-place Southampton. As the manager made clear yesterday, the aim today is to capture three more points, as it has been throughout. ‘We went to Manchester City and Manchester United to win and for different reasons we couldn’t,’ Mourinho said as he looked back on our two league draws so far. ‘We go to every match to win but when the season started we knew that in the first 11 matches we had to go to Man United, Man City and Liverpool. We knew we had the most difficult first matches of any team. ‘We also played Arsenal at home so if after 11 matches we were mid-table because we lost three matches, it would be nor ...
Jose Mourinho on playing Liverpool at the end of last season: "I felt during part of last season that the country wanted Liverpool to be champion. The media, the press: a lot was to put Liverpool there. Nobody was saying they were in a privileged situation because they didn’t play Champions League. Nobody was speaking about a lot, a lot of decisions that helped them win important and crucial points. And I felt that day was a day that was ready for their celebration. I used the word with my players. I said – we are going to be the clowns, they want us to be the clowns in the circus. The circus is here. Liverpool are to be champions.”
Chelsea have little time to recover from their excursions in the Champions League last night as they travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime. Here is the line-up we think Jose Mourinho will go with: Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois should come straight back in after Petr Cech was given a rare run-out against Maribor last night. Defence: Cesar Azpilicueta is likely to replace Filipe Luis at left-back after serving his three-match domestic ban. Gary Cahill will also be recalled in place of Kurt Zouma after being given a breather on Wednesday night. John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic will retain their places at the back. Midfield: Mourinho is unlikely to make any changes in midfield as Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic are excelling in the middle of the park. The Slovenian champions, thrashed 6-0 at Stamford Bridge, took the lead through Agim Ibraimi's sublime curler. But the Blues equalised when Nemanja Matic poked in John Terry's header at the far post. Hazard was fouled by Mitja Viler to win a penalty, but the Belgian's weak effort was saved by Jasmin Handanovic. Jose Mourinho took responsibility for Chelsea's complacency but also pointed the finger at the officials after a 1-1 draw at Champions League minnows Maribor.
There was some scoffing when Jose Mourinho said before Chelsea’s Champions League tie against NK Maribor in Slovenia Wednesday night that their 6-0 win over the same opponents a fortnight earlier made the task harder.

It's ok that he missed the penalty! Jose Mourinho defends Chelsea's Eden Hazard JOSE MOURINHO has defended Eden Hazard for missing a late penalty in the Blues' Champions League match against Maribor
Jose Mourinho says Chelsea have a responsibility to perform at their ruthless best in Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Maribor. The Blues romped to a 6-0 win over the Slovenian champions at Stamford Bridge last month and victory in the return fixture could seal their place in the knockout stages with two games to spare. "I like this concept of going with a big club, full of big players to a country, a stadium, a city where normally they don't come," said Mourinho. "To come here, to play here, I think we have responsibility to play for us and also to play for the people. "I know they want to win - they don't want us to win - but to play for the people is to play well, and to show what we can do, to show the quality players we have, to show the quality team we have." Mourinho insists he would never select a weakened team in anticipation of defeat, in a slight made towards Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers. Rodgers rested key personnel, including Captain Steven Gerrard and playmaker Raheem Sterling, ...
Man Utd v CHELSEA PREVIEW TEAM NEWS Manchester United midfielder Angel Di Maria is expected to overcome a thigh injury in time to face Chelsea. Wayne Rooney is suspended and Radamel Falcao is nursing an injury but fit-again Michael Carrick could play for the first time this season. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says striker Diego Costa has 'a little chance' of playing after a virus and a hamstring problem, but Loic Remy is out. Cesar Azpilicueta is suspended, but Ramires could return from injury. MATCH PREVIEW There have been many column inches comparing and contrasting Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, two of the most intriguing and fascinating coaches, and egos, in the game. For three years they worked together at Barcelona - or rather Mourinho worked for Van Gaal. It was the Dutchman who schemed his way to four trophies and the Portuguese who did the opposition analysis, the odd session on the training pitch and made the tea. Actually, I'm kidding about the tea. Van Gaal has described Mourinho's role at B ...
Can Jose Mourinho upset his former mentor Louis Van Gaal again? When Premier League leaders, Chelsea, travel to Manchester United today Jose Mourinho will face his former mentor Louis Van Gaal. The game sees Mourinho facing Louis Van Gaal, only for the second time after Mourinho’s Inter overcame Van Gaal’s Bayern Munich in the 2010 Champions League final.
Flawlessly constructed Chelsea confident ahead of Man United match If you were looking for reasons Chelsea won't win the title, their midweek clash with Maribor was not a good place to start the search. It wasn't the scoreline that should chill the rest of the Premier League, it was the manner in which it was secured. Chelsea aren't just a good team, they're a driven team. They are fully committed, utterly professional and they have very few weaknesses. Manchester United supporters should be rather concerned ahead of this weekend's big game. Maribor, of course, are hardly European royalty. But they reached the Champions League group stages the hard way, their Slovenian title proving no passport to UEFA's cash trough. They had also already held Schalke and Sporting Lisbon before their trip to London. No one else had bested them until they played Chelsea. But it was in the closing stages when you could see what Jose Mourinho has achieved in little over a year, the spirit that he has cultivated. Chelsea were ...
Chelsea facing striker crisis before Manchester United match: Chelsea face the prospect of having veteran Didier Drogba as their only fit striker for their visit to Manchester United on Sunday in what is usually one of the standout matches of the Premier League season. Jose Mourinho's league leaders will definitely be without their nine-goal top scorer Diego Costa, who has a hamstring problem. Frenchman Loic Remy is also a doubt after injuring himself while scoring Chelsea's opening goal in their club record 6-0 Champions League victory over Maribor on Tuesday. Drogba, 36, came off the bench after 16 minutes to replace Remy and scored from the penalty spot for his first goal since returning to the club following a two-year spell away. He is Chelsea's only fully fit regular first team striker, but Mourinho could include 17-year-old Dominic Solanke in the squad for the visit to Old Trafford, after the teenager came on as a late substitute to make his senior debut against Maribor. "We know Solanke's talent i ...

Loic Remy swept in the opener but was quickly replaced by Drogba after injuring himself when scoring. Drogba then converted a penalty before John Terry slid in a third. A Mitja Viler own goal put Chelsea in command before Eden Hazard scored a penalty and drove in a late sixth. Agim Ibraimi hit the post with a penalty for Maribor, but in truth the Slovenians were well beaten. Chelsea have seven points from three games to sit top of Group G, and will be confident of reaching the knockout stage. It was almost the perfect win for boss Jose Mourinho, although the injury to Remy was a cause for concern. With Diego Costa out with a hamstring injury, the Blues could face Sunday's Premier League trip to Manchester United with Drogba as the c ...
MOURINHO: VERY HAPPY Jose Mourinho watched his side record our biggest ever Champions League win against Maribor, and praised the manner of the performance. Goals from Loic Remy and Captain John Terry, either side of a Didier Drogba penalty, gave us a three-goal advantage at the break, with an Eden Hazard brace – including one from the spot – and a Mitja Viler own goal compounding the Slovenian’s misery. ‘I told the players before the game that the best way to respect opponents who, in theory, are not as good as you are, and don’t have the same potential as you, is to play at your maximum level,’ explained the Portuguese. ‘It’s not to play a second team, or play with a lack of concentration, it’s to play the best possible way. From the first minute until the last we tried to play well. Defensively we respected our opponents; we know their strikers are good players, the wingers are dangerous, so they deserve our respect. ‘Because we respected them so much we managed to produce a solid p ...
Adrian Durham makes a candid point .Time to extricate ourselves from the past.. Arsenal were unbeaten during the 2003-04 Premier League season But they didn't capitalise on their dominance and failed in Europe Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry weren't part of best-ever Arsenal side Anyone else fed up with the fawning over the Arsenal Invincibles 10 years on? Boring. Here’s what that team achieved – failure in Europe when the Champions League was there for the taking, and at the same time they directly helped Jose Mourinho become greater than Arsene Wenger. Funny how the Wenger lovers conveniently ignore all this. The myth of the Arsenal Invincibles grows beyond all credible recognition as every year passes without another title or any Champions League success for the Gunners. There has been so little to shout about since that unbeaten season in 2004 that Arsenal fans and admirers insist on relentlessly eulogising about the awesome power and glory of the Invincibles. One Gooner is living in the past so ...

Chelsea are sweating on the fitness of Diego Costa as fears grow that their star striker is set for a spell on the sidelines with his troublesome hamstring injury [Telegraph]. Costa has been plagued by hamstring issues since the end of last season when he played through the pain barrier to help guide Atletico Madrid to the La Liga title as well as the final of the Champions League. The 26-year-old then aggravated the injury while away on international duty with Spain in September and Chelsea have had to nurse him through fixtures ever since, with Jose Mourinho admitting he’s unable to play the striker in three consecutive games. The Portuguese boss wouldn’t have been best pleased to see his star man play 172 minutes in Spain’s Euro 2016 qualifiers against Slovakia and Luxembourg over the past 10 days, as it seems Costa has once again succumb to his long-standing hamstring injury. The Telegraph claim that the striker pulled up in training this week and although Chelsea doctors will continue to *** .. ...

Jose Mourinho has refused to allow his No.3 goalkeeper to rejoin his former club on an emergency loan as he prepares for the possible January departure of the Blues’ former No.1 By Wayne Veysey | Chief Correspondent Chelsea have rejected a loan bid from Fulham for Mark Schwarzer as they prepare for the possible departure of Petr Cech, Goal can reveal. The Cottagers enquired recently about the possibility of re-signing their former goalkeeper on an emergency loan until the end of the season. But Jose Mourinho refused to sanction Schwarzer’s departure, even though the Australian is currently third in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. Goal understands that Mourinho thinks that Cech could leave the club in the Januar window, leaving him without experienced backup to new No.1 Thibaut Courtois. The Czech international admitted on Tuesday that there is “no time” for him to sit on the bench if he is to retain his place in the national team . WENGER HUNGRY 4 CHELSEA REVANGE!!! Arsenal have "a big hunger" to avenge their crushing defeat against Chelsea in March, a humiliation that Arsene Wenger said on Friday he and his club would never forget. The Arsenal manager seeks his first victory over a Jose Mourinho-managed club in a dozen attempts in Sunday's big Premier League derby and the Frenchman admitted that last season's 6-0 mauling at Stamford Bridge, which marred his 1 000th game in charge, had left an indelible mark. "We will never forget last year at Chelsea and we have an opportunity to put it right," Wenger told a news conference before the return to Stamford Bridge. "We have a big hunger to put that right. "Last year's slow start exposed us to counter-attacks. It was a very bad memory but football is not made of history, it's about performance." With six points separating Arsenal from top-of-the-table Chelsea, Wenger said winning on Sunday was "vital" if his side was to stay in the Premier League race. Arsenal's midweek Champions League ...

Diego Costa trains with Chelsea as Jose Mourinho's men face Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League
Star Midfielder Out with Injury while Costa Starts Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Ramires will be kept out of the starting lineup against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge, while Diego Costa will be starting as the marksman upfront. ‘Ramires,’ said Jose Mourinho, when asked who was unavailable for the game. ‘Everybody else is good. ‘It’s a muscular injury, he won’t be able to play on Tuesday [against Sporting Lisbon] or even against Arsenal. ‘He needs the two-week international break [to recover], maybe he will be back after that. ‘Diego plays tomorrow and starts without problems. The question is always the same; can he finish the game and be in condition to play in Lisbon 48 hours later? ‘I don’t know but at the moment I’m not thinking about Sporting or the Champions League, I’m thinking about Aston Villa and the Premier League. He plays for sure, he starts the game for sure and he’s in a very good condition to start.’ - Chelsea FC
TEAM NEWS: Ramires out, Costa doubt, Cech to start for Chelsea against Bolton RAMIRES is out of Chelsea's Capital One Cup third-round tie with Bolton tomorrow night The Brazil midfielder was substituted during the 1-1 draw with Manchester City after picking up an abductor muscle injury. Ramires will be have the complaint reviewed later this week ahead of Chelsea's clash with Aston Villa on Saturday. Top scorer Diego Costa (hamstring) is unlikely to feature against Bolton either. But goalkeeper Petr Cech could start as manager Jose Mourinho plans to rotate his squad with Premier League and Champions League matches to follow in the coming weeks.
IS JOSÉ BUILDING THE GREAT ENTERTAINERS FOR ABRAMOVICH? ~ HAVING SCORED 16GOALS BUT CONCEDED 7. Jose Mourinho might not appreciate the comparison but right now his Chelsea team more closely resemble Newcastle United in their heady days under Kevin Keegan than anything he has assembled before. Chelsea so far are the great entertainers&have scored&conceded more goals after 5 matches than any previous Mourinho team. Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw vs Schalke in the Champions League means Chelsea have found the net 16 times but had their own defence breached on 7 occasions. For a man so focused on tactical tightness that total is anathema to Mourinho, even if his side remain unbeaten. Only in his 2011-12 season at Real Madrid has Mourinho started a season anywhere like this 1 at Stamford Bridge. Back then after 5games in all competitions Real had scored 15goals&conceded 6. Ominous signals for the Premier League chasing pack; Real won La Liga that season, scoring a frankly ridiculous 121 times for a plus 89goal di ...
Costa will face City vows Mourinho 2014-09-19 19:31 Cobham - Diego Costa will face Manchester City on Sunday despite Jose Mourinho admitting the Chelsea striker needs rest to clear up a hamstring problem. Mourinho revealed this week the forward started Wednesday's Champions League clash with Schalke on the bench because Costa's condition means he is unable to play more than once a week. But the striker, who suffered the injury during the recent international break with Spain, will return to the starting line-up at the Etihad Stadium as Chelsea seek to extend their perfect start to the Premier League season with a fifth successive win. Costa has scored seven goals in four Premier League games following his is 32 million ($53.1 million) pre-season move from Atletico Madrid, highlighting why Chelsea manager Mourinho is so keen for the forward to start against City. Mourinho, though, conceded Costa's starting appearance against Premier League champions will mean he is unable to face Bolton in next week's Leag ...
Mourinho: i may go back to mardrid. the Portuguese trainer left the Champions League holders after three seasons in charge to take over at Chelsea but has hinted that he has unfinished business in Spain Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has suggested that he would jump at the chance to return to former club Real Madrid . Mourinho spent three years in the hotseat at the Santiago Bernabeu between 2010-13, winning the 2012 Liga title and 2011 Copa del Rey. However, a failure to secure a Champions League trophy - Real were eliminated in the semi-finals in all three of Mourinho's seasons in charge - ultimately cost the Portuguese coach his job. Chelsea moved to bring Mourinho back to Stamford Bridge quickly and after a third-place finish in a campaign of transition last term, the Blues are red-hot favourites for this season's Premier League title. Though expressing delight at fulfilling a career goal in securing league titles in England, Italy and Spain, Mourinho has suggested he has unfinished business in the Spa ...
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho comments on relationship with Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo ose Mourinho is fondly remembered by his former FC Porto, Chelsea and Inter Milan players, but not so by the Real Madrid ones. That’s because during the end of his three-year spell as the Spanish club’s coach, he fell out with pretty much all the members of the team. Luka Modric, Diego Lopez and Michael Essien (on loan from Chelsea to Madrid for 2012-13) were reportedly just a handful of players who did not fall out with Mourinho. / gettyimages.com Fellow Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo backed Mourinho until towards the end of the 2012-13 campaign when the now Chelsea manager claimed that Madrid started the 2012-13 league season ‘in a sad state’, alluding to the 29-year-old’s revelation of being sad at the club back in September 2012. Mourinho won La Liga and the Copa del Rey once each at Madrid and led the team to three successive Champions League semi-finals, but his time in the Spanish capital is replete w ...

[SPOTLIGHT ON CITY, FALCAO AND BALOTELLI] - Just a month into the season, Manchester City is already facing a game of huge significance in the defense of its Premier League title. If City loses at home to early leader Chelsea on Sunday, the champions will be eight points behind their biggest rivals for the championship after five matches. And that will be a sizeable gap considering the strength of the squad that Jose Mourinho has built for this season. Buoyed by a 4-0 win over Queens Park Rangers last weekend, Manchester United's line-up of all-star attackers heads to another promoted club, Leicester, with Radamel Falcao in line for a first start. Scoring goals may not be enough for Mario Balotelli to be the new crowd favourite at Liverpool. The Italy striker ended his wait for a goal for his new club by scoring in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Ludogorets Razgrad in the Champions League. But manager Brendan Rodgers says Balotelli must dovetail scoring with a relentless work rate, like Luis Suarez did during his ...

Ahead of Chelsea's Champions League opener against Schalke tomorrow, Jose Mourinho answered questions on a wide range of topics at his press conference. Asked about Eden Hazard, Mourinho was effusive of the talismanic Belgian: ‘He's a fantastic player, a top player, but we can see through his work that day by day he can reach higher levels….we have high hopes that he can become one of the best.'
EWS 3 hours Jose Mourinho may have plenty of Champions League pedigree but he insists his desire to keep on winning matches for his club is of much greater significance than any further personal glory. Our European campaign gets underway tomorrow when we host Schalke at the Bridge. At his customary pre-match press conference at Cobham this afternoon Mourinho, twice a winner of the Champions League, was asked whether his team could improve on last season’s run to the semi-final stage of the competition. ‘In this moment I only think about not playing in the Europa League,’ he responded. ‘I want my club to succeed in the group phase. It would be very bad for the level of the group to go to the Europa League. ‘Do I want to win it again? Of course I want to. The tournament is part of my history and, even if they don’t sometimes know it, I am a part of the tournament’s history. ‘But my motivation is always the same. What drives me is to try to win. I work for my club, for my players and for my s ...
Didier Drogba has returned to training with Chelsea ahead of a possible first European outing with the club since scoring the winning goal in the 2012 Champions League final. Drogba's first spell with the Blues ended with him scoring the decisive penalty which defeated Bayern Munich in the final at the Allianz Arena. He has now given manager Jose Mourinho a big boost by returning from injury sooner than expected, showing no ill effects as he trained with the Chelsea squad at their Cobham base on Tuesday. Drogba rejoined Chelsea this summer after a spell at Galatasaray but missed Saturday's win over Swansea because of an ankle injury which was expected to keep him out of the Group G match against Schalke on Wednesday. Mourinho is likely to start with in-form Diego Costa up front at Stamford Bridge but Drogba may well gain a place on the bench. Watch Chelsea play Schalke live on Sky Sports 1 from 7.30pm on Wednesday.
Champions League - Real Madrid v Basel preview: Madrid seek to get back on track Team news, match facts and manager quotes for the Champions League game between Real Madrid and Basel at the Bernabeu. PREAMBLE Just as the Cup's first edition in 1956 was won by Real Madrid, so the Spanish aristocrats begin tournament number 60 as holders and warm favourites, even after their underwhelming start to the La Liga campaign. Even without AC Milan and Manchester United, 10-times winners between them, in this year's draw, there is predictability to what will eventuate. It is no coincidence that the four favourites this season - Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Chelsea - are also the last four heavyweight winners of the trophy. The last genuine surprise winners? Jose Mourinho's Porto in 2004, 18 of the last 19 winners having come from one of the continent's big four leagues - La Liga, Bundesliga, Premier League and Serie A. The Champions League is not big on fairytales. Here is another predictable predictio ...
With the group stage of the UEFA Champions League starting tomorrow morning, I'm going to lodge my predictions for how the EPL's representatives in the world's toughest club competition will go. English UCL Predictions- Match day 1: Liverpool 2-0 Ludogorets: Ludogorets were the fairytale of the qualifiers after defender Cosmin Moti, a man with no prior goalkeeping experience, stepped in on behalf of the team's incumbent goalkeeper after the latter was shown a red card, and saved the ensuing penalty. Liverpool will want to get their first Champions League campaign in five years off to a good start, and there is no better way to do that than with a win here. Man to watch- Mario Balotelli: With no Daniel Sturridge he is the main striker in the team, and sorely needs to begin his tally for the Reds. Dortmund 1-1 Arsenal: Whilst Arsenal have not been convincing in either attack or defence in the league this year, they are unbeaten, which will no doubt be noticed by Jurgen Klopp. Add to their good record in Ger ...

Jose has managed how many different clubs in the Champions League?. Don't forget your 3 letter team code !
Chelsea have agreed an £8million fee with QPR for star striker Loic Remy, according to various reports. The Blues are on the hunt for a new forward after letting Fernando Torres join AC Milan on a two-year loan on Friday, pending the Spaniard agreeing personal terms and passing a medical. And Jose Mourinho appears to have acted quickly in the transfer market by moving for the France international, who played at this summer's World Cup. Remy enjoyed a highly successful loan spell with Newcastle last season, finishing as the club's top scorer with 14 Premier League goals. However, the 27-year-old has always made it perfectly clear he wishes to play in the Champions League and now looks set to get his wish with Chelsea. Remy has a staggered buy-out clause with the Hoops, meaning clubs in Europe's top competition can pay just £8m to land the striker, whereas teams such as Newcastle would have to pay a higher fee. Earlier on in the summer the Frenchman look destined to join Liverpool after the Reds met that ...
EXCLUSIVE: CHELSEA TRIGGERS QPR STRIKER Loic Remy'S £8M RELEASE CLAUSE Chelsea have agreed a deal for Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy after matching his £8M release clause. Jose Mourinho is keen to add another forward to his squad following Fernando Torres' move to AC Milan on a 2yrs deal&the Portuguese boss decided to look at their West London rivals' striker. Remy's release clause was set at £8M for any team in the Champions League, but at £11M for sides in the top 6&£15M for any other club. The 27yrs-old is believed to want wages of £80,000-per-week. Torres' departure leaves Mourinho with just Diego Costa&Didier Drogba as recognised senior strikers. Chelsea 1st made contact with Remy's agent when they feared Drogba was injured earlier this month. Chelsea have contacted QPR about the striker's availability on either a loan or permanent deal. The former Marseille man's versatility means that he could operate as a central striker or wide in a front 3. Remy has made it clear that he wants to lea ...

Samuel Eto’o thanks Mourinho Samuel Eto’o has rubbished talk of a rift with Jose Mourinho as he prepares for the possibility of an Everton debut against his old boss, Sky Sports reports. Eto’o was part of Mourinho’s Champions League-winning side at Inter Milan and came to England a year ago to rejoin the Portuguese at Chelsea. But the pair’s relationship was questioned when Mourinho was caught on camera joking about Eto’o’s age, and the 33-year-old left Stamford Bridge in the summer before joining Everton this week. Samuel Eto’o gave his first press conference on...
Samuel Eto’o claims Jose Mourinho was wrong to question his age – but insists he bears no grudges against his Former Chelsea boss. Eto’o dismissed Mourinho as a “fool” and a “puppet” for suggesting the striker was older than he claimed during his loan spell at Chelsea last season. Now, Eto’o has joined Everton on a free transfer, signing a two-year deal. And he admitted at his unveiling on Wednesday that he was annoyed by Mourinho’s dig. But the three-times Champions League winner says he will still shake the Special One’s hand when Chelsea come to Goodison Park on Saturday. “It was a mistake,” said the former Barcelona and Inter Milan hitman of the comment about his age. “It annoyed me and disturbed me a little. “Sometimes I would say to myself, ‘Why?’. But the most important thing is what you do on the ball and I just got my head down and worked. I’ve got no problems with Jose Mourinho and I’ll shake his hand on Saturday.” Eto’o, 33, managed to score 12 goals in h ...
Cech Reign Over As Courtois Picked For Chelsea Opener Thibaut Courtois won his battle with Petr Cech to be Chelsea’s goalkeeper for their Premier League opener at Burnley on Monday. Blues manager Jose Mourinho had last week refused to reveal which of the two internationals would start the clash at Turf Moor, but his team-sheet showed it was young Belgian Courtois who had got the nod to make his debut ahead of Czech veteran Cech, who was named among the substitutes. Apart from injury absences, Cech had been Chelsea’s number one since joining the West London club from French side Rennes at the start of Mourinho’s first spell in charge in 2004. But the 32-year-old looked shaky at times last season and the writing was on the wall when Mourinho opted to keep Courtois in his squad this season after he had spent the last three years on loan at Atletico Madrid. Courtois was in superb form last term, helping Atletico win the Spanish league title and reach the Champions League final, a run which included a se ...
Burnley 1-3 Chelsea: Diego Costa, Andre Schurrle and Branislav Ivanovic goals give Jose Mourinho's side victory at Turf Moor Some will cite the financial gulf between the teams, others the technical divide, but the bottom line problem for Burnley on Monday night was that they had not seen anything like this. There were moments, the second goal in particular, when Chelsea took their football to a new level of excellence under Jose Mourinho, second time around. And dealing with that must be very unnerving for a group of players fresh to the Premier League. Only Michael Duff has survived at Turf Moor from the last time Burnley were part of the elite. He is 36. Of course, the increased challenge of the Premier League is only to be expected. But nothing could prepare Sean Dyche’s team for the moment when the full potential of players like Eden Hazard, Andre Schurrle and Cesc Fabregas was unleashed. They won’t have been confronted by the terrifying reality of a Champions League elite team before. They won ...
Jose Mourinho has spoken further about what he has already described as a ‘great problem’ regarding team selection for the first game of the season on Monday. The manager is yet to reveal who will be between the posts when Chelsea kick off against Burnley but in the build-up to the game he has emphasised the choice between Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois is entirely his. He has also explained he is not considering rotating the selection between different competitions, for instance playing one in the league and one in Europe. ‘This club is completely correct, this club knows what the manager is and which are the manager’s items in his job profile, and team selection is my responsibility,’ Mourinho said. ‘So my decision will be a lonely decision. I'm going to decide based on many factors obviously. ‘My number one choice will be my number one; not forever obviously because I cannot kill competition, I cannot close the door for somebody to get into the team. ‘I cannot give any player a guarante ...
Atletico Madrid have reportedly begun negotiations with Chelsea over the possible transfer of Andre Schurrle to the La Liga champions. This would be at least the third time that the two clubs have discussed transfers this summer, however this time the movement of players could be in the opposite direction. Atletico were impressed by Schurrle’s performances in the World Cup, and sense an opportunity as the player was by no means a regular starter for Jose Mourinho’s team last season. Eden Hazard will no doubt start the season as first choice winger this season, and it remains to be seen whether Schurrle will be able to oust Willian from the other flank, whilst also fending off Oscar and Mohamed Salah in the fierce competition for attacking players Chelsea has. It would make sense for Chelsea to sign a foreign player. Currently they have one more than the UEFA Champions League squad lists will allow, and it does not appear that Jose Mourinho has decided on a player that he would be happy to lose from hi ...
Jose Mourinho claims Chelsea's Diego Costa will prove a bargain buy after the Spain striker marked his home debut with a clinical double in the 2-0 friendly win over Real Sociedad. Mourinho splashed out £32 million to lure Costa from Spanish champions Atletico Madrid and the Blues boss is convinced even that hefty price tag will look cheap by the end of the season. The 25-year-old certainly looks capable of justifying Mourinho's faith after making a confident bow for his new club at Stamford Bridge. He took just 57 seconds to open the scoring with a cool finish from an acute angle and bagged his second with a tap-in after Andre Schurrle's shot hit a post in the seventh minute. As well as his goals, Mourinho was also impressed with the way Costa linked with attacking midfield trio Schurrle, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas, while working tirelessly to close down Sociedad when they were in possession. His qualities look ideally suited to the Premier League and Mourinho said: "Diego is a team player, he works ...
Who will finish where in the Premier League? 13 August 2014 Updated 07:00 By Phil McNulty - Chief football writer, BBC Sport The battle for Champions League places - and relegation - scrap promise to be more competitive than ever Louis Van Gaal has arrived at Old Trafford, Luis Suarez has left Anfield, and Manchester City and Chelsea have spent big again - so with the new Premier League season just days away from kick-off, here are my predictions for where each team will finish. The selection of Chelsea as champions is made with some conviction after manager Jose Mourinho's summer in the transfer market - but choosing who will fill the other Champions League places has never been more difficult. So much so that the eventual finishing positions of those in contention - assuming champions Manchester City finish in the top two - may well come down to the deals done by Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal before the transfer window closes at the end of August. At this stage you would hesitate to risk a pe ...
Ahead of what promises to be another thrilling Premier League season, we take a look at 10 of the biggest and best close-season transfers. Alexis Sanchez - Arsenal The second-largest transfer in Arsenal's history, with an estimated £32million fee, Arsene Wenger pulled off a major coup in bringing the Chile star to the Emirates Stadium from Barcelona. Deemed surplus to requirements at Camp Nou ahead of Luis Suarez's arrival, Alexis turned down Liverpool to join Arsenal. He was a key player in his country's run to the last 16 of the World Cup, and Arsenal fans will be hoping the fleet-of-foot forward can help fire them to a first Premier League title since 2004. Diego Costa - Chelsea After his haul of 36 goals in all competitions helped Atletico Madrid to the Spanish title and the UEFA Champions League final, Chelsea decided to splash over £30m on Costa. Jose Mourinho regularly bemoaned his striking options as Chelsea finished third in the Premier League last term, and he will hope Spain international Cos ...
MICHAEL OWEN thinks Chelsea will win the Premier League next season with Manchester United making a return to the top four at the expense of Arsenal. Former England, Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester United striker Michael Owen BOLD: Owen has predicted that Arsenal will miss out on the top four this season The former United and Liverpool striker has, perhaps unsurprisingly, tipped his former clubs to edge out Arsene Wenger's Gunners to qualify for Champions League Football in 2015/16. And Owen thinks Chelsea's new firepower will see them beat current champions Manchester City into second place next term. Owen said: "I felt the Achilles heel for Jose Mourinho's side last season was the inability of their strikers to score goals and I feel recent £32m signing Diego Costa is the final piece of the jigsaw for the West London outfit and I fully expect his goals to change a very good side into a title-winning one. "Ironically the Club have never adequately replaced Blues' legend Didier Drogba and whilst the ...
A long-term link to Stamford Bridge, the 27-year-old Uruguay international joining Jose Mourinho's side would be dependent on a number of factors, not least Chelsea's need to comply with UEFA regulations. Apart from already having exceeded the quota for foreign players over the age of 21 by one -- with Didier Drogba taking them to 18 -- the London club are also increasingly conscious of financial fair play. It is expected that Czech goalkeeper Petr Cech could move on, however, and that any purchase of Cavani would finally see the long-mooted sale of Fernando Torres. Furthermore, the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Everton brought in 28 million pounds, freeing up more funds. Sources told ESPN FC that Chelsea have been quoted a price of 40 million pounds by PSG for Cavani, and that the player is eager to move to Stamford Bridge -- despite a public declaration that he would prefer to stay in France. There has already been preliminary contact between the London club and the player's camp, although Chelsea are s ...
MOURINHO: OUR BRIGHT BLUE FUTURE Jose Mourinho has been discussing his hopes&expectations for some of the younger players working under his guidance in pre-season. {Blues out to change their reputation as a 'graveyard' for young talent by making 1st-teamers of Isaiah Brown,Dominic Solanke&Lewis Baker}{If these 3 Chelsea kids DON'T play for England you can blame me says Jose Mourinho}. Jose Mourinho has admitted that he will have to get rid of one of his foreign players as Chelsea desperately try to find a buyer for Fernando Torres. The return of Didier Drogba means Chelsea’s anticipated 1st-team squad has one too many foreign players under Premier League&Champions League rules relating to the home-grown quota. Clubs can only name 17 foreign players over the age of 21 in their official 25-man squads&Chelsea have 18 overseas stars who are realistically vying for those places. Mourinho, the Chelsea manager, wants to offload £50M flop Torres, but clubs are being put off by the £20M asking price&the Spaniard ...
The gaping holes in our squad in the past season were noticeably in the striking department. We had the best defensive record in the league even when Cech was making some schoolboy errors. In the summer transfer window, we have addressed that hole with the purchase of Diego Costa, Lukaku is back from a successful loan at Everton and Schurrle can deputise if need be. There is Torres too. The surgical movements Jose Mourinho promised has all been done:- • Lampard-Fabregas • D. Luiz-Zouma, Omeruo • Cole-Filipe Luis But the press keeps linking us to everything that can kick a ball in this world; Pogba, Drogba, Khedira, Varane and the likes. It is my opinion that any player we buy should have one eye on the future. Let us look at what we should if made available not necessarily a do or die need. POGBA- The kid is 21 years or thereabouts and already a household name in the world of football. He has great potential to develop into a better all-round midfielder; strong, skillful and has an eye for goal. If ...
Inside Spanish Football Inside Spanish Football – La Liga news 24/7, plus Segunda, Copa del Rey, Champions League, Europa League & the Spain national team Iñigo Martínez – Real Madrid’s ‘Plan B’? Posted by Ameen Rabbani Real Madrid have sounded out Real Sociedad centre-back Inigo Martinez as the first option to replace Raphael Varane, should the Frenchman leave the club in this summer. It has been reported that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is interested in signing the 21-year-old and should a deal go ahead, then Real will turn their attention to Martinez, who was told of Los Blancos’ interest last December, according to Marca. The Spanish paper say Real see him as an ideal replacement and the player himself is willing to make the move to the Bernabeu but a stumbling block in a deal could be negotiating with the Basques who will hold out for the €30 million release clause. Bayern Munich and Barcelona have also been linked with the 23-year-old but Real Madrid would be favourites and have as ...
Filipe Luis has signed for Chelsea in a deal worth £20million, according to reports. After months of negotiations with Atletico Madrid, it seems Jose Mourinho has finally caved in and paid full asking price for the man who he sees as a direct replacement for Ashley Cole. According to The Sun, Luis, 28, has agreed terms at Stamford Bridge and will compete with Cesar Azpilicueta for the left-back spot next season. The Brazilian full-back was instrumental in Atletico’s march to La Liga glory last season, and shone in their astonishing run to the Champions League final, which they lost in extra-time to Real Madrid. Luis will become Chelsea’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa and Croatian youngster Mario Pasalic.

GOODBYE ETO'O Posted on: Tue 01 Jul 2014 Chelsea Football Club today bids farewell to Samuel Eto'o whose contract is now at an end. Eto'o spent one season at Stamford Bridge and true to his illustrious career as one of the great strikers in world football, provided some of the most memorable moments of 2013/14 with his goals, often important opening strikes including in big games against Arsenal and Tottenham, and against Manchester United when he became just the third Chelsea player to score a hat-track against the Old Trafford outfit. He signed on a one-year deal from Anzhi Makhachkala last August, making his debut at Everton and scoring his first Chelsea goal in a 4-1 win over Cardiff City, taking an Eden Hazard pass in his stride, jinking past Steven Caulker and firing low past David Marshall. It was another important contribution, giving his team a 2-1 lead, and Eto'o's formidable history in the Champions League continued with his first goals for us in that competition soon followed, a brace in a 3-0 ...
Premier League fixtures 2014-15: Five Talking Points Jose Mourinho is unlikely to be best pleased with the fixture computer while Liverpool may have to come from behind if they wish to mount a title challenge 1. Jose Mourinho is not going to be happy There is always at least one manager among the title contenders who feels the Premier League fixture computer has conspired against him and if there was a betting market on who that manager would be then Jose Mourinho would be odds on favourite. But Mourinho may well have a legitimate claim to call foul play when he sees what lies in the store for Chelsea. The games that take place on weekend after European games are usually the battleground for grievances and Chelsea's fixtures following their Champions League group games are as follows: Manchester City (away); Arsenal (home); Manchester United (away); Liverpool (away); Sunderland (away) and Hull City (home). Three trips to the north-west to face fellow title challengers, one to the north-east and a London d ...
If the media were to be believed then Jose Mourinho is in on every single attacking midfielder who is available, today it is Luka Modric as Alex Johnson fills us in on the latest... Liverpool transfer target Dejan Lovren has handed in a transfer request at Southampton, according to the Daily Mail. Brendan Rodgers launched a £40million bid for the Croatia international and team mate Adam Lallana in May, but saw his advances blocked. Lovren has cited his desire to play for a club in the Champions League as the reason why he is looking to move on. The Liverpool Daily Post understands that Everton boss Roberto Martinez is lining up a move for Heerenven midfielder Hakim Ziyech, who was watched closely by Blues scouts during the closing stages of the last campaign. The Toffees boss has also expressed an interest in Barcelona's Christian Tello and Real Sociedad's Ruben Pardo, although he insists they are further down his wish list. According to reports in the Metro, Real Madrid are set to use Luka Modric as par ...
Chelsea Football Club and FC Cologne have agreed a season-long loan for Tomas Kalas which will begin on 1 July. The Czech defender, 21, will embark upon his second loan spell away from Stamford Bridge having previously spent two seasons - 2011/12 and 2012/13 - at Vitesse Arnhem. He returned to Chelsea ahead of the 2013/14 campaign and was handed his debut by Jose Mourinho as a late substitute in a 2-0 Capital Cup win at Arsenal. He then made his European bow for the club, again as a late sub, in our 2-0 Champions League Round of 16 win over Galatasaray at Stamford Bridge. The youngster was handed his first start in our 2-0 Premier League win at Liverpool in April, playing alongside Branislav Ivanovic at the heart of the defence and impressing with a composed, mature display. On the final day of the season he made his second start in our 2-1 win at Cardiff City. Though generally considered a central defender, Kalas, who has one senior international cap, also played at right-back while with Vitesse. Cologne ...
Chelsea to listen to Cech offers as Mourinho demands Courtois return The Belgium international is expected to sign a new five-year contract and replace the 32-year-old as the first-choice goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge next season Chelsea are willing to sell Petr Cech this summer as they prepare to make Thibaut Courtois their No.1 goalkeeper next season, Goal understands. Jose Mourinho has made it clear to the Blues hierarchy that he does not want Courtois going on loan for a fourth consecutive campaign. The Chelsea boss believes the Belgian is ready to establish himself at Stamford Bridge as the undisputed first-choice keeper and force Cech down the pecking order. Courtois, 22, has indicated he is prepared to sign the five-year contract he has been offered by Chelsea to replace his current deal, which has two years remaining. The London side are expected to encourage Cech, who turned 32 last month, to find a new club during the current transfer window. The Belgium international has been named La Liga's be ...

Rumours: Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas passes medical at Chelsea, according to reports Cesc Fabregas has reportedly passed a medical at Premier League side Chelsea and the Daily Star insist the Blues have beaten Manchester United and Arsenal to the signature of the Spanish midfielder. Fabregas is highly-sought after, after Barcelona, with whom he won the Champions League in 2011, admitted that the Spanish international was available on the transfer market. Manchester United have been heavy favourites to land the former Arsenal man, but the Gunners also have a clause in their former captains clause which allows them to have first pick on the central-midfiel der. Louis Van Gaal, who will take over at Old Trafford in the summer, identified Fabregas as his main target, but reports emerged that Manchester United did not wish to pursue Fabregas anymore which left the door open for Jose Mourinho to make a move. Fabregas and Barcelona have now allegedly agreed terms with Chelsea and the West London side are ...
why is Man United failing to bring good players in the last decades. Incoming Manchester United chief Edward Woodward says that there’s no need for lots of new signings and that the club has incredible depth. “We have a young squad, each now a year older. We’re very comfortable with the make-up of team and squad. “There’s incredible depth. We could put two first teams out with 11 internationals in each. “I wouldn’t expect there to be a major retooling of the squad.” While Woodward’s words may satisfy The Glazers, many Manchester United supporters believe that the club is in need of a major overhaul in the summer to strengthen the midfield, bring in another world-class striker and to boost an aging defense especially if the club is serious about mounting a challenge to win the UEFA Champions League. And, if reported, to fight Chelsea in a closer Premier League title race with Jose Mourinho scheduled to join Chelsea in July. What do you think? Do you predict Manchester United will spend li ...
Manchester United are heading to the United States this summer for Tour 2014, presented by Aon, and will renew rivalries with some of world's top clubs. In addition to Real Madrid, LA Galaxy and AS Roma, the Reds will face Italian outfit Inter Milan at FedEx Field in Washington DC on 29 July, in the International Champions Cup. The last time the two giants met was in 2009, when Sir Alex Ferguson's men took on Jose Mourinho's side in the last 16 of the Champions League. After a tense 0-0 draw in the first leg, goals from Nemanja Vidic and Cristiano Ronaldo were enough to secure the Reds a place in the quarter-finals. Relive the action in the video. Vidic, of course, is set to feature in the tour match next month in the colours of Inter, having recently called time on his illustrious Old Trafford career. BYE BYE FRANK! Frank Lampard has announced he is leaving Chelsea after Jose Mourinho failed to offer the 36-year-old England vice-captain a new contract. Lampard: "Whatever the next challenge for me I will always be among you and have Chelsea in my heart." It is all set up for a busy summer in West London, with the departures of Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Samuel Eto’o and David Luiz just being the beginning. The Italian coach has enjoyed a superb debut campaign in Spain, but will now be expected to build an era-defining team after Real Madrid claimed La Decima on Saturday COMMENT By Ben Hayward in Lisbon A season to remember. Carlo Ancelotti ends his debut campaign at Real Madrid with two trophies, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League, vindicating the decision by president Florentino Perez to part company with Jose Mourinho last summer. But for the Italian coach, this must be just the start. Mourinho claimed the Copa in his first campaign in charge, but fell short in La Liga and in the Champions League. The Portuguese asked to be judged on his second season - and that brought a spectacular return in the Primera Division with 100 points to dethrone Barcelona after the Catalans had claimed three titles in a row in the previous years under Pep Guardiola. On the back of that success, Mourinho signed a new long-term contract in the summer of 2012. It was supposed to be the start of something special, an era-d ...

Juan Mata was also bought for £23m from Valencia and sold to Man. United for £38m; same with Kevin De Bryune. Better days ahead. Time to start smiling to the bank.

CHELSEA goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has admitted that he wants to stay at Atletico Madrid next season according to club chief executive Gil Marin. He will be reluctant to let Courtois leave Stamford Bridge as first choice keeper Petr Cech currently has a shoulder injury which will rule him out the start Chelsea's Premier League campaign. The news of Courtois' desire to stay at Aletico comes less than 24 hours after their Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid. But Marin revealed that the Chelsea star made his intentions known to them after them before the defeat to their local rivals. He said: “Courtois wants to stay and he’s told the directors that. "But it all depends on him and Chelsea have an injured goalkeeper.” - [via Daily Star]... As for me let the ungreatful little boy stay wt them if he w ...

This is not to take anything away from the marvelous work Ancelotti has done at Madrid, but any fair and square Madrid or neutral fan can realize that Mourinho deserves some credit what Real Madrid have achieved so far. When Mourinho took over, Madrid were a team with bunch of individuals with no team chemistry between them whatsoever. They had suffered two humiliating years domestically against Barcelona and in Europe, they hadn't even gotten past Round-1 in the Champions League for six straight seasons. They weren't a a team, nowhere close to it. Mourinho took over, and if not suddenly, but slowly things changed. The 5-0 loss to Barcelona aside, Madrid kept on growing and harder to beat game after game, and finally beat Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey final, something that was unimaginable in the eyes of many Barca's enormous quality. When his reign was over, his record was five wins, six draws, and six losses to Barcelona, although losing only once in his eight matches to Barcelona. He guided the team to ...
Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo says Saturday's Champions League final against neighbours Atletico Madrid is a game all 'Madridistas' have been dreaming about. Real coach Carlo Ancelotti will attempt to succeed where the likes of Jose Mourinho, Fabio Capello and Manuel Pellegrini failed on Saturday by finally ending Real Madrid's wait for a 10th European Cup in Lisbon. Ancelotti is Real's 11th coach since they last conquered Europe back in 2002 under Vicente del Bosque and the club's quest for 'La Decima' (the 10th) has increasingly turned into an obsession for the big-spending Spanish giants. Ancelotti has already done better than some of the biggest names in the game by getting Real back into the final - the first time they have graced the showpiece since Zinedine Zidane's famous volley saw them beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 at Hampden 12 years ago. However, the Italian knows that is only part of the battle, with all Real fans now desperate for the club to get their hands on the trophy again. Ronald ...
WHEN FOOTBALL PREVAIL OVER EVIL Roman Abramovich considers replacing Mourinho with Simeone Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is questioning whether he made the right choice hiring Jose Mourinho last summer after a poor season at Stamford Bridge. According to Le 10 Sport, the Russian oligarch is considering the possibility of sacking Mourinho less than a year after the Special One started his second stint in charge of Chelsea. The Blues have had a poor season by Abramovich's high standards, winning nothing and finishing third behind Manchester City and Liverpool. Mourinho has claimed Chelsea's failing have been down to a lack of strikers, refusing to take the blame for himself. Meanwhile, Diego Simeone has inspired Atletico Madrid to a famous La Liga title victory and could also win the Champions League on a tiny budget compared to Chelsea's. Needless to say, Abramovich sees Simeone as a potential future manager of Chelsea and could even offer him the job this summer if he does decide to sack Mourinho. Not on ...

HAS Roman Abramovich CHANGED HIS POLICY? Jose Mourinho became the fourth Chelsea manager during the reign of Roman Abramovich to sign off from a season without a trophy – the previous three were all fired. The Russian owner has not taken kindly to zero return on his investment. Claudio Ranieri was the first to pay the price for the absence of any silverware, the Italian axed after less than a year of Abramovich’s tenure in 2004. The Blues had finished second in the table. Four years later it was Avram Grant informed that his services were no longer required. The Israeli had come within one kick of winning the Champions League only for John Terry to slip up - literally as well as metaphorically - during the penalty-shootout defeat by Manchester United in Moscow. Again, a second-placed finish was deemed unsatisfactory and Grant was dismissed. Then, in 2011, Carlo Ancelotti -despite delivering a domestic double 12 months earlier was served with his end of service letter. And, for the third time under A . ...
Arsene Wenger wins trophy, Brendan Rodgers wins manager of the year, manuel Pelligrini wins double, Ancelotti in Champions League final, Pep Guardiola wins double, Diego Simeone wins Laliga, Lauren Blanc wins Lig One and. Tata Martino resigns, David Moyes is sacked but the biggest failure stays at post and is made to seem he's the best of all the aforementioned. Jose Mourinho has failed miserably this year yet he cunningly shifts all attention to others. And he shamefully says he's 'building a team' for next year. Kindly I ask, which manager deconstructs his team for next season? All hail the Confident trickster Mourinho, the special talking bird. Slain Me Chelsea fans, I await.
Van Gaal's Champions League win Percentage is better than Sir Alex's and Jose Mourinho's.
WHO WINS La Liga? Believe me, I had routed for Athletico Madrid for more than half the season, willing them to finally break the duopoly called the Spanish League. I had stood behind Diego Simeone all the while, wishing the Argentine to announce the arrival of the fresh and younger managers that will rattle the modern day coaching arena dominated by the likes of Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, Roberto Martinez and others, who are threatening to force out the older guard in Arsene Wenger, Louis Van Gaal, Carlo Ancelotti and the likes. But I hadn’t counted with Barcelona not winning any other trophy. Now, I’m faced with the dilemma of seeing Athletico win deservedly and seeing Lionel Messi go trophyless in a World Cup season! Messi is just too big a player to go trophyless in any season. So, if I am given the opportunity, I’d give Barca the La Liga trophy, for Messi’s sake, then give the Champions League to Athletico, for Simeone’s sake. However, may the best side get their reward.

Real Madrid regains first position in FIFA Ranking "Real Madrid has to recover its place in Europe". That was the phrase uttered by Florentino Pérez in May 2009 when he decided to run again for the presidency of the club. Five years later and that mission has been accomplished. Real is in a Champions final and tops again the UEFA ranking, something that has not happened since 2005. When Florentino took over again for the 2009-2010 season, the club was in 13th position and remained there when Jose Mourinho became the coach a year later, while not even seeded in the Champions League draw. The coefficients that determine the rankings are based on results over the last five seasons in both the Champions and Europa Leagues. After previously losing six consecutive seasons at the quarterfinal stage, the club had lost a lot of ground in Europe until the arrival of Mou. The new coach brought three semi-final appearances in a row and now with the club in the final under Carlo Ancelotti, Real have reached first pos ...

Asked about Eden Hazard’s impact after coming off the bench at half-time against Norwich, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho pointed to more than just the Belgian as a factor in an improved second half display. After watching their Champions League dream unravel midweek at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea’s Premier League title challenge now also looks all but over. A frustrating scoreless draw with Norwich at home means that the Blues will be ruled out of contention should Liverpool or Manchester City win their games in hand this week. And the Blues’ drop off in the race for silverware has been set against the background of a row between Hazard and Mourinho via the media. Two-time Champions League winner Jose Mourinho has been labelled a European flop by arch-enemy Rafael Benitez.
HARD FACTS:-ATLETICO'S ENTIRE TEAM COSTS £20 MILLION LESS THAN Fernando Torres After Atletico Madrid knocked Chelsea out of the Champions League, Jose Mourinho said that the Spanish club held a big advantage as they'd had the same coach for the last three seasons. "It's the difference between one year and three and it's a big difference...they are a very good side, very adapted to the ideas of this manager - every player fits his idea of how to play," he said. Maybe so Jose, but when you look at the cost of the two starting line-ups that took the field on Wednesday night, it really brings home just how impressive Atletico's victory was. That is because Chelsea's starting line-up cost more than SIX TIMES as much as Atletico's line-up, with three Chelsea players – Willian, Eden Hazard and Fernando Torres – each costing more all by themselves than the ENTIRE Atletico team. Indeed, £50m flop Fernando Torres cost a whopping £20m more than all 11 Atletico players put together. The most expensive signing ...
Jose Mourinho has questioned Eden Hazard's team ethic in the wake of Chelsea's midweek Champions League exit.
Jose Mourinho launched an astonishing attack on Eden Hazard on Friday, claiming Chelsea's star midfielder is not a team player. Hazard criticised his manager's counter-attacking style of play following Wednesday night's Champions League semi-final defeat by Atletico Madrid at Stamford Bridge. But Mourinho hit back: 'You get this kind of comment from players like him: from players who can't resolve a problem like we had with the first (Atletico) goal.'
Jose Mourinho says Eden Hazard's criticism of Chelsea's tactics after their Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid were 'normal from players like him'
Jose Mourinho lamented Eden Hazard's error in Chelsea's Champions League elimination but has no qualms with the Belgian's comments following the midweek exit to Atletico Madrid.
Inzwai mashura mudunhu HE IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE Source: [Manchester evening] Manchester United are set to test Chelsea Football Club's resolve with a world record £100-million bid for the Belgium deadly winger Eden Hazard. After a season of turmoil, the Red Devils are looking to rebuild over the summer and are willing to spend big to do it. Caretaker boss Ryan Giggs is helping the United chief draw up a list of summer options and Chelsea Football Club winger Hazard is right at the top, with the Welsh legend though to be a long-term admirer of Hazard's abilities. Giggs rates Eden as the best young talent world football has ever prouduced & is blessed to play against him Chelsea Football Club have had a disappointing season as well in the Premier League, and after Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid, manager Jose Mourinho might be willing to accept a bid of £100m
Guardiola signed a contract with Bayern last year. Carlo Ancelotti signed a contract with Real Madrid last year. Jose Mourinho signed a contract with Chelsea last year. Jurgen Klopp is too loyal to Dortmund. Guus Hiddink will be the new Netherlands coach. It seems now that appointing David Moyes WAS the worst mistake United have ever made. Not only have we fell out of the Champions League, we really only have one option of choice in manager, and that is Louis Van Gaal. (Managers we could have signed last year we can't now, look above) Ryan Giggs shouldn't take over because if you look at all the top managers, they all had smaller jobs to get experience, EVEN SIR ALEX. Appointing Giggs would be wrong when we can appoint Van Gaal and give Giggs that learning curve. -Wario.

Injuries, suspensions and cup-tied players are all things that pose obstacles for Jose Mourinho in the Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid tonight, but Chelsea can progress to the final providing they don’t park the bus, according to Chelsea man Ron Harris
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has named an unorthadox lineup to play Atletico Madrid in tonight's crunch Champions League semi-final tie, with the Portuguese naming five defenders plus the hybrid David Luiz in the first XI. Confusion has reigned since the announcement, with various social mediums in…
As was the case last night, there is just the one game on tonight. Chelsea host this seasons surprise team, Atletico Madrid. With the tie balanced at 0 - 0 there is much to play for. Perhaps more intriguing are the connotations surrounding this clash. Diego Costa will probably be a Chelsea player next season and I wouldn't put money against Fernando Torres maybe going the other way. Also with Real Madrid in the final Jose Mourinho will be desperate to put one over his former employers while they will be desperate to do likewise. Add to that the fact that Carlo Ancelotti is a Former Chelsea manager and you can see why many want Chelsea in the final. Atletico however, will be desperate to make it the first Champions League final between two teams from the same city. Intriguing is the word. Kick off is at 19:45. See you then.
John Terry is 'owed' nothing... but now he has shot at redemption as he bids to bully Diego Costa out of the Champions League By Mike Anstead 11:53 30 Apr 2014, updated 13:15 30 Apr 2014 *.Terry isn't owed a thing but has chance to right Champions League wrongs *.This match is made for Terry - and he'll show he's a warrior *.If he gets it right he deserves to wear his kit in final again - this time for real ‘I think the Champions League owes him something.’ Jose Mourinho has delivered some ridiculous statements down the years, but this is a proper head-scratcher. No player is ‘owed’ anything in football, regardless of perceived bad luck. Defence: Mourinho praised his skipper ahead of tonight's semi-final against Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid will fall into Chelsea's defensive trap in tomorrow night's Champions League semi- final, according to European football expert Guillem Balague. The writer and pundit has seemingly changed his mind from what he said earlier this week - with him then predicting a tight Atletico win. But with Jose Mourinho's men ensuring a clean sheet last week in Spain after denying their opponents any significant opportunities, including hot shot Diego Costa who was constantly denied space, Balague thinks the La Liga leaders could fall victim to the Blues strategy as they try and press for a win. The Portuguese employed the same tactic in the 2-0 win over Liverpool at the weekend that has blown the title race wide open - with Chelsea's rearguard action resulting in Brendan Rodgers accusing the Blues of "parking two buses". And Balague fears the same will happen tomorrow night and set-up a Chelsea-Real Madrid final that sees Mourinho taking on the side he left just last year. "Atletico will feel obliged to ...
The former Real Madrid club chief criticised the way that the Portuguese acted while in charge at Santiago Bernabeu and praised his successor, Carlo Ancelotti, for his own methods Jose Mourinho's misbehaviour made him the wrong man to be in charge at Real Madrid, according to former club president Ramon Calderon. Mourinho guided Los Blancos to three Champions League semi- finals and won one La Liga title, one Copa del Rey and one Supercopa de Espana during his three-year spell at Santiago Bernabeu before departing by mutual consent for Chelsea last summer. The Portuguese was constantly at odds with the Spanish press and was rumoured to have irked a number of first-team players in his final campaign at the club, with his benching of Iker Casillas in favour of Diego Lopez a particular sore point among supporters. Madrid snapped up ex-AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti from Paris Saint-Germain to replace him and, with a treble still potentially up for grabs this season, Calderon believes that getting rid of Mour ...
Nickname: The Blues Formed: 1905 Stadium: Stamford Bridge (41,837) League titles: 4 FA Cup wins: 7 League Cup wins: 4 European Cup/Champions League wins: 1 Manager: Jose Mourinho Chelsea were formed in 1905, and are actually based in nearby Fulham. The side had to wait until 1955 for their first success, when they won the Football League. The club had to wait yet again for more success, until they won the 1970 FA Cup and 1971 Cup Winners Cup. The last 15 years have been the club’s most successful however, first under Ruud Gullit and then Gianluco Vialli, and then since Russian billionaire Roman Abromovich bought the club in 2003, under Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti. The club won the Premier League in 2005, 2006 and 2010, and the FA Cup in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2012. Chelsea also reached the 2008 Champions League final, where they were beaten agonisingly on penalties by Manchester United. The pain of that loss – and John Terry’s crucial miss from the spot – lingered, and perhaps still does. Howe ...
After Jose Mourinho's Big Gamble, His Champions League Moment of Truth Arrives NEXT ARTICLE » Jon Super All eyes were on Jose Mourinho at Anfield as his tactics frustrated Liverpool Andy Brassell Apr 29, 2014 3 Comments Two down, one to go. On paper, the last week couldn’t have gone much better for Chelsea. Jose Mourinho may still divide opinion like few others in the world of football, but to come away from crunch matches at Atletico Madrid and Liverpool with a pair of clean sheets is something that deserves recognition. This week, we will see exactly how much the former one is worth. Against Diego Simeone’s side, who have kept six clean sheets in a row themselves in La Liga and Champions League, Chelsea have no margin for error against opponents who have been expected to slip up all season—but that haven’t yet. The dispute of the validity of Mourinho’s tactics at Anfield is strange. Despite Brendan Rodgers’ barb that “putting 10 players right on your 18-yard box is not difficult to coach ...

Chelsea parked 'two buses' - Rodgers Brendan Rodgers © Getty Images Sun, 27 Apr | 18:04 Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers got his big break in football as an assistant to Jose Mourinho, butwill not be taking any lessons in how to win from his former mentor. Liverpool suffered a major blow to their hopes of winning their first title since 1990 when Chelsea won 2-0 at Anfield on Sunday, frustrating the Premier League leaders with dogged defending and punishing them on the break with goals by Demba Ba and Willian. "It's the polar opposite to how we work," Rodgers told reporters. "They sat really deep. There were probably two buses today parked today rather than one," he said, using a phrase made famous by Mourinho nearly 10 years ago to criticise a team for defending too much. In the same way that Chelsea held Atletico Madrid to a 0-0 draw in a Champions League semifinal first leg last week, Mourinho ordered his midfield to sit deep and double up with his defenders to deny space and time to Liverpool. Rodgers ...

Chelsea close the gap with Anfield win (PA) Sunday 27 April 2014 Share Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho got his tactics spot on to punch a huge dent in Liverpool's title dreams at Anfield and keep alive the Stamford Bridge side's hopes of an unlikely double. In a battle between a home side committed to attack and visitors intent only on defending, the latter triumphed, which may not have made for a good spectacle, but Chelsea - and Manchester City - were not complaining. Much has been made of this being the season when Reds Captain Steven Gerrard ends his long wait for a championship medal, so it was cruel that his mistake led to Demba Ba's crucial opening goal in first-half injury time. Substitute Willian scored a breakaway second in the final seconds. Victory took Chelsea within two points of their rivals at the top of the table. The UEFA Champions League is still be the primary objective for the Londoners and to that end they fielded a slightly weaker side. It showed seven changes from the midweek goalles ...
Mourinho masterclass derails Liverpool juggernaut Chelsea's tactics left Anfield frustrated in what was a brutal and brilliant win by the visitors, halting Brendan Rodgers' men in their title charge By Jonathan Birchall at Anfield This is probably what they mean by the business end of the season. Pragmatism. Cynicism. Getting the job done, by any means possible. Chelsea did exactly that. Liverpool have lost at home 2-0 and the direction of this title, yet again, is anybody's guess . The air of invincibility at Anfield smoked out by Jose Mourinho and an away performance built on brutal discipline, both brilliant and ill. Chelsea came for a war of attrition and the battle lines were drawn from the start. Luis Garcia, scorer of the so-called 'ghost goal' against Mourinho's side in the 2005 Champions League semi-final that ended with glory in Istanbul for Liverpool, was brought onto the pitch as a gentle reminder of conflicts past. Outside the ground, flares and flags met the team buses on arrival at Anfield ...
Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Jose Mourinho had the chance to join Liverpool in the 2000s and build a legacy there instead of moving to Chelsea. The Portuguese manager will feel vindicated by his choice, having won two Premier League titles with the Blues in consecutive years since being inculcated into the team by Roman Abramovich. However, Liverpool were also rewarded for keeping faith in Rafa Benitez who helped them win the Champions League during that period. Meanwhile, in the current season, Rodgers, who was Mourinho's assistant during his time with Chelsea, is set to beat his mentor to the Premier League title with the Reds. Liverpool are currently nine points ahead of Manchester City and five ahead of Chelsea, though City have two games in hand over their rivals in Merseyside. A win over Chelsea in their upcoming game at Anfield will pretty much seal them the title - Liverpool's first in over 24 years. Rodgers believes that Liverpool's situation could have been much different if Mourinho had ta ...
Brendan Rodgers has always talked a good game but this season he has finally been able to practise what he preached. Long before he arrived at Anfield, the man from Carnlough on the Antrim coast of Northern Ireland spoke with a zeal that fans wanted to hear, journalists wanted to listen to and players wanted to respond to. But the question many asked was could he also walk the walk? The answer has been both eloquent and emphatic. Liverpool are on the brink of winning a first league title since 1990, 12 months after they finished seventh in the Premier League. Club owners, Fenway Sports Group, had set him the target of Champions League qualification from next season. To be welcoming his old mentor, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, to a city abuzz with title fever is an illustration of how quickly Rodgers's methods have taken root on and off the field. Liverpool have scored 96 goals in 35 Premier League matches this season - already a club record - playing a brand of football that has captured the imagination ...
