Roma have signed Argentine midfielder Juan Iturbe from Verona for £17.4m. Iturbe, 21, also linked with Juventus and AC Milan, scored eight goals in 33 games for Verona last season and has been compared to a young Lionel Messi. He has signed a five-year deal and the fee could rise by a further £2m depending on performances. Roma, who will play in the Champions League this season, have already signed Former Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole, Urby Emanuelson and Seydou Keita.
Filipe Luis has signed for Chelsea in a deal worth £20million, according to reports. After months of negotiations with Atletico Madrid, it seems Jose Mourinho has finally caved in and paid full asking price for the man who he sees as a direct replacement for Ashley Cole. According to The Sun, Luis, 28, has agreed terms at Stamford Bridge and will compete with Cesar Azpilicueta for the left-back spot next season. The Brazilian full-back was instrumental in Atletico’s march to La Liga glory last season, and shone in their astonishing run to the Champions League final, which they lost in extra-time to Real Madrid. Luis will become Chelsea’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa and Croatian youngster Mario Pasalic.
Liverpool are considering a move for Chelsea’s forgotten defender Ryan Bertrand. Brendan Rodgers has had trouble finding a left-back this summer and has now turned his attention to the 24-year-old, according to the Daily Mail. He has been priced out of a move for Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno, while Caner Erkin has signed a new contract with Fenerbahce. But Bertrand is a realistic target for the Reds as he is eager to leave Chelsea for first-team football, and Rodgers worked with him during his time as a coach at the club’s academy. Jose Mourinho does not regard Bertrand as possessing any value to his Blues squad for next season, and therefore, will accept any bids of around £8million. Despite the departure of Ashley Cole, the Special One is looking at either signing a new left-back or playing the right-footed Cesar Azpillicueta to fill the void. Undoubtedly, Bertrand’s highlight at Chelsea was starting the Champions League final triumph in 2012 against Bayern Munich.
Chelsea Football Club today says goodbye to Ashley Cole , a player who contributed enormously to the highly successfully period in our history in which we were crowned champions of Europe and won the League and Cup double for the first time. Cole, whose contract came to an end yesterday, was a Chelsea player for eight seasons, making 338 appearances, 13 of those as a substitute, and finding the net seven times. Throughout that time he was the England team's left-back. He announced his retirement from international football in May having won 107 caps, a record for a full-back and the fifth highest total overall. His remarkably consistent high level of performance was always appreciated by the Chelsea support, who welcomed him to Stamford Bridge even though he joined from big London rivals Arsenal, with William Gallas moving the other way as part of a transfer-deadline-day deal in August 2006. Cole has had no reason to regret his switch across the capital, collecting winners' medals for the Champions League ...
Cesar Azpilicueta welcomes competition from Filipe Luis Chelsea full back Cesar Azpilicueta insists he is ready to fight Filipe Luis for a starting role in Chelsea’s first team should the left back complete his switch from Atletico Madrid as expected. Luis is set to move to Stamford Bridge this summer as part of a £50m deal with Atletico Madrid, which will also see striker Diego Costa arrive in West London. The 28-year-old starred for the La Liga champions at left back this season and was part of the side that knocked Chelsea out of the Champions League semi-finals. Azpilicueta enjoyed an impressive campaign in the same position having established himself as first choice ahead of Ashley Cole, who has now left the club. The Spain international is ready for a similar challenge from Luis and said: “When you play in a top team there’s always a lot of competition for spots. I always fought for my spot with respect to all my teammates and will continue doing.
Liverpool are weighing up a move for Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand, with reports suggesting Jose Mourinho is keen to sell the one-time England international this summer. The 24-year-old will be moved on from Stamford Bridge this summer, despite the fact Ashley Cole has left the West London outfit on a free transfer. Mourinho is looking into the possibility of signing Atletico Madrid full-back Filipe Luis after refusing to match Southampton’s valuation for £30m-rated Luke Shaw, who looks certain to join Manchester United either before or after next month’s World Cup finals. The Portuguese coach is not considering the prospect of using Bertrand, who spend the second half of this season on loan at Aston Villa, as his first-choice left-back from the start of next season. Liverpool, however, are keen on the youngster who joined Chelsea as a youth player from Gillingham in 2005, according to the Daily Star. He famously made his European debut in the 2012 Champions League final against Bayern Munich, whic ...

We want to think that not winning is not acceptable. “But what I always say is that the second season at any club is normally the best. After one season, we can analyse in a cold way, look at 12 months, 60 matches. “Normally, teams in their second season have to be better than the first. MATCH REPORT: CHELSEA 1 Steaua Bucharest 0 Posted on: Thu 12 Dec 2013 Summary A steady if unspectacular victory courtesy of Demba Ba's early goal means Chelsea finish group stage winners for the ninth time in our 12 Champions League campaigns. Opportunities for more goals were few, although Branislav Ivanovic was denied by good goalkeeping and Ba another goal by wayward finishing. Steaua, who set a new record tonight for most consecutive Champions League games without a victory, wasted one gilt-edged chance shortly after the goal but that apart did not look likely to get back into the match. Team News Jose Mourinho spoke before the game of the need to rest players but still win the game and he set out to do that by making seven changes from the defeat at Stoke. Frank Lampard struck his 202nd and 203rd goal in a Chelsea shirt to pass Bobby Tambling's all-time goalscoring record for the club and virtually assure his side a Champions League place next season. With Chelsea trailing to Christian Benteke's first-half strike, the 34-year-old coolly collected a pass from Eden Hazard, switched the ball to his left foot and fired past Brad Guzan from 15 yards. His second of the match came after clever play on the left from Ashley Cole and Hazard, before the latter squared for Lampard to ram home from close range Lampard, whose first goal for the Blues came against Bolton in 2001, last scored in the 2-0 win against Swansea at the end of April. Some fans spilled onto the pitch to celebrate with the England midfielder after he broke the record. Lampard said after the game: 'It means everything, it's amazing. 'The support I've had from team-mates, you saw that at the end and I'm thankful to every one of them because they're the ones that put it on a plate for me sometimes. 'A ...

Chelsea will feel they have turned a corner. This contest had actually been fraught for a while, the home side's lead halved and Wigan Wigan outraged at the non-award of a penalty for handball against Ashley Cole, with all the memories of those recent capitulations to Southampton, Reading and Newcastle creeping back. There was panic in the ranks and anxiety in the stands, and yet they survived, regained composure and eventually prospered. Perhaps lessons are being learned. Rafael Benítez can sleep a little easier after this, any doubts among the hierarchy over his ability to deliver Champions League qualification during his interim stewardship presumably shelved for a while. This was a first victory in five games in all competitions, and keeps fifth-placed Arsenal at arm's length. The manager did roll his eyes in the post-match inquest, though only in a knowing way as the questions drifted inevitably back to a familiar subject. It was Frank Lampard who had eased the nerves and, if the veteran's class is ...

One half of Chelsea?s on-going contract saga has seemingly come to a conclusion with Ashley Cole agreeing a one year contract extension. The deal is reportedly worth just short of ?200,000 per week and it stops interested clubs Man United and PSG pursuing the best left back of his generation. Chelsea should now concentrate on negotiating a new deal with Frank Lampard, who has arguably been one of the most consistent Premier League players over the past decade. The fact Lampard has offered to reduce his wage by ?100,000 per week shows the players commitment and loyalty to the club and now its time they show it to him. The fans have been vocal in supporting Lampard, 34, who scored his ninth goal of the season from the penalty spot against Arsenal on Sunday. Since his ?11million move from West Ham 12 years ago, Lampard has scored more than 20 goals a season on five occasions. A total of 130 assists and 195 goals have been instrumental in helping Chelsea to success in the Champions League, Premier League, FA ...
NEW CONTRACT FOR COLE Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce that Ashley Cole has signed a one-year extension to his contract. It will take the left-back's Chelsea career to eight years. During his time with the club he has won the Champions League, the Premier League title, the League Cup and, famously, the FA Cup four times which combined with three FA Cup wins with Arsenal is an all-time record for one player. Cole, 32, has also been named the Chelsea Players' Player of the Year twice and won our Goal of the Season in the Double-winning year of 2009/10 for a strike at home to Sunderland. He has been first choice in his position for club and country throughout and is one game away from a century of England caps, a record number of appearances for the country by a full-back. On signing his new deal, Cole said: 'I am pleased I will be starting my eighth season at Chelsea. I have great memories here and I enjoy coming to training every day. The staff are amazing and I enjoy training with the lads. ...
Arsenal legend Tony Adams: "I like Arsenal's standards. No person is bigger than the club. I agree with that 100 per cent. But that's not the issue. Even going back to Ashley Cole, Sol Campbell – these players left too early. So too Gaël Clichy, Samir Nasri, Cesc Fabregas, Alex Song, even Marc Overmars and Emmanuel Petit. I think you could have got two or three years out of them. Instead [with the exception of Campbell] they chose to take the money. Which was fine, I understand balancing books. "But Robin is not a football nor a financial decision. He will get the money back for you. If you drop out of the Champions League, you aren't going to get the £25m. Give that to Robin. And the manager is paying himself a few quid. That is what irritates the fans as well. Ivan [Gazidis, chief executive] is on a lot of money, Arsène is on a lot of money. The fans come to watch the players and think 'Hold on a minute, give him your money!' "I can see both ways. I understand the core values of Arsenal. I just thi ...
Atleast one of our defenders at Chelsea deserves a place in that FIFA best XI. Ashley Cole is nowhere to be found. Man of the match against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final for that matter. I don't know the Criteria they used to pick Marcello ahead of Cole.. FIFA are biased. Everything is from Spanish League.

Like we didn't see that one coming Female Balon d'Or winner: Abby Wambach Stoch wins the FIFA Puskas Award 2012 FIFA Fair Play Award goes to the Uzbekistan FA. FIFA Presidential Award 2012 is goes to Franz Beckenbauer. Men's coach of the year award goes to ex Real Madrid coach Vicente Del Bosque. Why was Pep Nominated again? FIFA/FIFPro World XI: Casillas, Dani Alves, Marcelo, Pique, Ramos, Iniesta, Alonso, Xavi, Ronaldo, Falcao, Messi. Every player in the FIFA XI plays in Spain. That includes five Real Madrid players, five Barcelona players and one from Atletico Madrid. Where is Robin Van Persie? But then again, who would you scrape out? Champions League winners Chelsea have no players in the FIFA XI. Jose Mourinho doesn’t think Iker Casillas is currently Real Madrid’s best goalkeeper. FIFA clearly think otherwise. Marcelo at left back. Really? Ashley Cole surely had a case for that slot. S.H.
Barcelona: Over-Rated: Busquets. Defensive midfielders are meant to be hard-tackling players, stopping anything from getting past. When Busquets gets a slight touch he goes down like he's been shot. Scott Parker went in for a challenge with his head whilst the ball was on the ground in the Euros because he was tripping over. Yaya Toure uses shear strength to stop and beat players. Busquets is not good enough for Barcelona in my opinion. Under-rated: Jordi Alba. Obviously he's quite a new signing, but I think he's one of the best left backs in the world. Everyone talks about Ashley Cole or Lahm, but I think Alba is better than them both, and he proved it in the euros. He's the right footed Dani Alves, which is just what Barca needed. Predicted Finish: 1st (Due to Madrids poor form) and maybe a Champions League.

Monterrey 1-3 Chelsea: European champions ease through to Club World Cup final Two goals at the start of the second half helped seal Rafa Benitez's side a place in Sunday's showpiece final against Corinthians, as their Mexican opponents faded after the break Chelsea's attacking midfield triumvirate of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Juan Mata sparkled as the Champions League holders coasted to a 3-1 victory over Monterrey during their Club World Cup semi-final at the International Stadium in Yokohama. A well-taken first-half finish from Mata gave the Blues the lead, before a deflected Fernando Torres strike and an own goal from Darvin Chavez promptly after half-time helped see off the challenge of the CONCACAF champions, although Aldo De Nigris did score a superb consolation late on for the Mexican side. A bright start from the West London side was rewarded in the 17th minute when Mata opened the scoring in style with a sweeping finish after an intricate passing move involving Ashley Cole and Oscar on the left-han ...
Didier Drogba has presented his former team-mates from Chelsea’s Champions League winning side with commemorative rings. The Ivorian icon presented John Terry, David Luiz, Ryan Bertrand, Branislav Ivanovic, Paulo Ferreira, Daniel Sturridge and Ashley Cole with rings similar to those worn by Super Bowl winners, at an event at a London hotel last night. Every member of the victorious Blues squad had been invited, but not all managed to attend for various reasons. The mood at the hotel must have been bitter sweet, considering the fact that Chelsea had just become the first Champions League holders in history to be eliminated from the competition after the group stage. And the Blues have seemed a far less potent force without imposing African legend Drogba to name in their ranks. It is no surprise that the club had hoped to bring the Shanghai Shenhua striker back to Stamford Bridge on loan just for a few months, only for Fifa to pull the plug on their plans. The rings are said to have set Drogba back to the ...
UCL: Chelsea crash out despite convincing win Chelsea secured their first victory of the Rafael Benitez era with a 6-1 win over Nordsjaelland, but they will have to content themselves with Europa League football as Juventus beat Shakhtar Donetsk to deny them a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League. You would have got long odds at the start of the season that Celtic would go further in the Champions League than Chelsea, but that is the case as the Bhoys beat Spartak Moscow 2-1 to progress alongside Barcelona. Chelsea did all they could by thrashing Nordsjaelland, with Fernando Torres ending his barren run with a brace of goals, but they become the first defending champions not to get out of the group stage. The Blues made a fine start, with a flowing move involving Torres and Ashley Cole to allow the latter to fizz in a cross for Victor Moses. He set himself and unleashed a crisp volley that was well saved by Jesper Hansen. Hansen was extremely busy and he beat out a stinging drive from Torr ...

Fernando Torres Fernando Torres has been dropped to the bench for Chelsea 's crucial Champions League group-stage clash with Juventus . Eden Hazard will start as a false No.9 in the absence of the out-of-form Spaniard, with Juan Mata and Oscar tasked with providing the service for the tricky Belgian. In defence, Roberto Di Matteo shifts to a back three of Branislav Ivanovic, David Luiz and Gary Cahill, with the returning Ashley Cole andCesar Azpilicueta are expected to operate as wing-backs. Juventus, meanwhile, prefer Fabio Quagliarella to Sebastian Giovinco up front in what is otherwise a full-strength lineup. Juventus starting XI (3-5-2): Buffon; Chiellini, Barzagli, Bonucci; Lichtsteiner, Marchisio, Pirlo, Vidal, Asamoah; Vucinic, Quagliarella Subs: Storari, Caceres, Pogba, Pepe, Giovinco, Giaccherini, Matri
Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo is considering whether to drop striker Fernando Torres ahead of the Blues' crunch Champions League clash with Juventus tomorrow. It was deja vu for one of football's most trigger-happy club today as Di Matteo became the latest Blues manager to face serious questions about his job security following a slump in results. And defeat in tomorrow night's huge Group E encounter in Turin could lead to his exit. Speculation is rife Di Matteo has finally lost patience with Torres after hauling him off during Saturday's Barclays Premier League defeat at West Brom after another miserable performance. The Chelsea boss admitted after the game he would consider dropping the Spain striker but said tonight: ``I'm not going to disclose my ideas about tomorrow. ``I'll make the final decisions tonight.'' Ashley Cole should return after recovering from his hamstring injury, as should several other rested players but John Terry (knee) and Frank Lampard (calf) were left in London. Defeat would lea ...

Roberto Di Matteo has admitted Chelsea have been missing John Terry after their defensive problems deepened ahead of the Barclays Premier League game at Swansea. The European champions were all over the place at the back in Wednesday night's dramatic Capital One Cup win over Manchester United and were hardly any better in Sunday's first league defeat of the season against the same opponents. They have now conceded 11 goals in just four games since Terry began his domestic racism ban, although the Chelsea captain did play in one of them when he started their Champions League defeat at Shakhtar Donetsk. Terry serves the final instalment of his ban on Saturday, while manager Di Matteo revealed fellow defender David Luiz would almost certainly miss the Swansea game though injury. That would mean Branislav Ivanovic being pressed into centre-back service in a new-look defence that would almost certainly see right-back Cesar Azpilicueta handed his full league debut, with Ashley Cole returning from injury on the ...
when will England controversy go off englan football? read on, a little down memory lane: Sunday’s fixture between Chelsea and Manchester United was hardly ever likely to be a low key affair, but few could have predicted the carnage that unfolded on a fresh Sunday afternoon at Stamford Bridge. When Manchester United taking a two goal lead against an unbeaten Chelsea barely makes the news, and not a soul mentions that Ashley Cole and Rio Ferdinand actually shook hands, then you know something big has to have happened. Sending offs, diving, injured stewards, abusive referees, offside goals and a first win in West London for United in ten years; the battle of the bridge will live long in the memory. But what other games have caused so much debate and controversy, and divided opinion that they will be talked about long after the season ends? Chelsea v Barcelona, Champions League, 2009 Chelsea were once more in the middle of the action as they attempted to beat Barcelona and secure their place in the final o ...
th in the league last season but still managed to cap the campaign off on a high note by taking home the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League trophies. On the back of this success, Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo was able to strengthen the squad with new signings in the summer to help him achieve a blistering start to the current season. With a record which reads seven wins and one draw from their opening eight Premier League games, the Blues sit top of the table and in confident mood ahead of United's trip to Stamford Bridge. The Red Devils, on the other hand, have not won away to Chelsea in 10 years - a 3-0 win in April 2002. Records aside, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will certainly have his boys pumped up for Sunday's game, though, as three points will see the Manchester club close the gap on the Blues to just one point. Chelsea will be without the injured Frank Lampard and the suspended John Terry for the clash while reports on Saturday seemed to suggest that pre-match handshakes between United's R ...
The Stamford Bridge in London hosts what could eventually prove to be the most gruelling EPL match for the season as Chelsea clash with Man U. It couldn't have come at a better time! Chelsea are still riding on the impetus generated from last year's somewhat fortitous Champions League victory but at the same time, did the right thing of signing Hazard and Oscar, who, together with Juan Mata, form a deadly attacking prowess that can destroy any team on the planet. The three, complimeneted by others such as David Luiz-who is solid in defence and Ashley Cole, are the main reason behind the Blues' good start to the season. If it had not been for the laxity and lucklustre approach of chief striker, Fernando Torres, Chelsea would have scored dozens of goals more than what they have thus far. On the other hand, Man U still grapple with defensive frailties, and that makes it very interesting coming up against the harzadous trio. That could be the major determining factor on Sunday. However, for their part, Manu U ...
Ashley Cole targeting retention of top spot after Chelsea victory over Stoke The England left-back admitted that Tony Pulis' team made it a "battle" at Stamford Bridge but was pleased to secure the three points that keeps them in first place By Matt Davis 23 Sep 2012 14:04:00 Chelsea defender Ashley Cole wants the Blues to hold on to first place in the Premier League for as long as possible after their victory over Stoke City on Saturday ensured that they remained in the driver's seat. Cole bagged a late winning goal to see off the Potters and hand Roberto Di Matteo's team their fourth win in four matches this season. Occupied by their FA Cup and Champions League campaigns, Chelsea slumped to a sixth place finish in 2011-12 but the left-back is enjoying their return to Premier League title contention. "It is always nice to score but it was more about the win and staying top of the league," Cole told the club's official website. "Mentally that is good for us. Last season we didn't have too good a time in t ...
Chelsea 1-0 Stoke City: Rare Cole goal keeps Blues top The England full-back notched his first top-flight strike in two years to seal the points after the Potters had frustrated the European champions for 85 minutes By Joe Wright 22 Sep 2012 16:55:00 Chelsea maintained their place at the top of the Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Stoke City at Stamford Bridge thanks to a late goal from Ashley Cole. The Potters looked to have held on for a deserved point until the 85th minute, when Cole cooly finished from close range to notch his first top-flight strike for two years and keep the Blues on top of the pile. Brazil starlet Oscar made his first Premier League start for the Blues after his stunning goal-scoring debut in the Champions League in midweek, while Petr Cech took the captain’s armband as John Terry and Frank Lampard were consigned to the substitutes bench. Former Chelsea defender Robert Huth lined up for the visitors as they went in search of their first win of the season, having dra ...
Chelsea begins the defense of its Champions League title against Italian champion Juventus, with both sides leading their respective leagues after an impressive opening few weeks of the season. John Terry and Ashley Cole (both ankle) have shaken off knocks that ruled them out of England encounters during the international break and will feature against the Bianconeri. Roberto Di Matteo should also welcome back Juan Mata following the Spaniard's absence from the 0-0 draw against QPR at the weekend. Juventus will be without former Inter defender Lucio (ankle) who is set to miss the majority of the season. Following his impressive goal contribution in the season thus far, Kwadwo Asamoah looks set to make the starting XI ahead of Sebastian Giovinco. Nicklas Bendtner will continue to wait on the sidelines following his loan move from Arsenal. Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is yet to make his Juventus debut but could feature after being included in the Old Lady's squad. Chelsea won all six of it ...
Player Focus: The Rise and Rise of Ryan Bertrand There were a lot of questions as to how Chelsea could replace arguably their greatest ever Left Back in Ashley Cole and a few seasons back not many would have thought of Ryan Bertrand to b e that player. A year ago if I told my non-Chelsea supporters that Ryan Bertrand is going to be a Champions League winner in his first ever European game they probably would have laughed off or may have been forgiven for not even knowing who he was. Chelsea fullback Ashley Cole insists they can compete with Barcelona in the Champions League under new manager Andre Villas Boas.
...at one point, Samir Nasri & Ashley Cole played for Arsenal. After they left, Nasri lifted the Premier League title... Cole lifted the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Champions League... Arsenal haven't lifted a trophy since 2005, yet, for some reason, feel the need to harass these players... smh
Gianluigi Buffon in an Italian press conference has described Wayne Rooney as "a great example, along with Terry, Gerrard and Cole". Excuse me??? Rooney shags grannies and hookers behind his pregnant wife's back and has hardly played in this tournament because he booted a Montenegran in the last qualifier; Terry banged his best mate's missus, got suspended from the Champions League final for booting someone up in the air and is going on trial for racially abusing Anton Ferdinand; have you seen the CCTV Video of Gerrard knocking that guy out in that pub?; and Ashley Cole shot a work experience student at training, never mind what he did to Cheryl!! C'mon mate, if you were talking about Joe Hart or someone, fair enough, but you've picked out the four biggest tossers in English football!!!
Saturday night, Chelsea FC won the UEFA Champions League which is undoubtedly the most prestigious championship after the World Cup. This victory seems far-fetched especially when you consider that this same team comprising of Didier Drogba, Lampard, John Terry, Fernando Torres, Ashley Cole, Salomon Kalou, Flourent Malouda and others was generally derided as aging some few months back and some concluded that the club would never be able to win any laurel- at least not this season. AVB came on with much promise. At just 33 years, he was a protégé of Jose Mourinho having worked with him at Porto and Inter Milan. Though he had no experience as a professional player but he achieved some measure of success having won the Europa League. Roberto Di Matteo on the other hand is 42 years, was a professional player (even played for Chelsea) but his greatest coaching highlight was leading West Brom from the English Championship (Second Division) to the Premiership. He was subsequently fired after a terrible run of ...
There has been endless debate about Chelsea's fate once Frank Lampard, John Terry, Ashley Cole and Didier Drogba move on, but young defender Ryan Bertrand proved at Saturday's (Sunday, PHL time) Champions League final that the future is bright at Stamford Bridge.
"Football, and life, is sometimes unpredictable and crazy. I don't think anyone could have predicted this. We've had a difficult season" and to finish off like this is incredible. I'm very happy for the players, they've worked so hard for this for so long. Obviously when Bayern scored there wasn't much time for us but the heart and passion these players have shown in this competition has been immense. To equalise and get into extra time was a good feeling. Our preparation was very difficult with the suspended players and two defenders out for three or four weeks so it wasn't an ideal situation for a Champions League final but the desire and motivation of the players has shown again tonight. [Didier Drogba] has been a fantastic servant for this club over eight years and brought a lot of success but we focus on the group and it was a great effort from all the players tonight. Ashley Cole was immense, also Frank Lampard and Petr Čech – to be able to pull off this victory took a big team effort. I don't kn ...

Chelsea Champions League to become the new king Do not take advantage of golden opportunity Bayern started mentally shaken, before falling in penalty shootout chance. Lahm, Gomez and goalkeeper Neuer successfully completed the task in the first three shot series, helping Bayern Munich 3-2 lead. However, to the fourth series Olic could not win goalkeeper Cech, but Schweinsteiger shot hit the foot of a column. In the other dimension, then kick down the Mata, the leader responsible for the remaining Luiz, Lampard, Ashley Cole and Drogba are successfully implemented. Suffocation win 4-3 in penalty shootout, Chelsea beat Bayern Munich for the first time in Champions League history. 120 minutes of play in the major and minor half earlier, the two teams 1-1. BLUES FACT 17: If selected, Ashley Cole and Michael Essien will both play their 50th Champions League appearance for the club.
Ashley Cole will equal Paolo Maldini's record of losing three (3) UEFA Champions League finals tonight!
New England manager Roy Hodgson believes that it would be foolish to write Chelsea off ahead of the Champions League final in Munich. Hodgson would have been at the Allianz Arena anyway in his capacity as a member of UEFA's technical study group, but is now attending in his new official capacity. Hodgson will no doubt have an eye on the three likely members of Chelsea's starting line-up - Ashley Cole, Gary Cahill and Frank Lampard - to face Bayern Munich. Hodgson has seen the assessments of how one-sided this final is reportedly going to be, but disagrees based on his knowledge of Chelsea and their performance in this year's tournament. "It will be a lot closer than some of the pundits are predicting. Most people are writing Chelsea off but I don't see them as underdogs at all," Hodgson told the official FA website. "They have done extremely well to get to the final, they eliminated the favourites to win the tournament with two splendid performances. If they get anywhere close to those performances they h ...
Chelsea's date with destiny: the occasion when their Roman empire can finally achieve its aim. Comrade Abramovich fell in love with football when famously watching a Champions League match and everything since arriving at Stamford Bridge has been aimed at the lifting of that famously oversized trophy, the European Cup. He has been within an inch of the post, a slip of Luzhniki sod, and for a time that had looked like his last chance. An ever-revolving cast-list of coaches has been and gone since John Terry's moment of truth in Moscow. Since then, the players who took them to the brink of a dream becoming reality have aged and agued. This was supposed to be a season of rebuilding. A young coach with new ideas was hired to sweep out the old guard. Yet they remain, and Andre Villas-Boas is jobless, only recently reappearing as a possible suitor for the vacant Liverpool position. Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Ashley Cole and Petr Cech take their place, but the suspended Terry will not, as penance for his stup ...
The title was bought, some say. Understandably, Manchester City disagree and, if they want to construct a case for the defence, they can cite Chelsea. In the ninth year of Roman Abramovich's ownership, they are the reminder money has not bought everything: not the Champions League crown the Russian desires or the popularity that has eluded them. The former may be acquired on Saturday night in Munich and the latter, more surprisingly, could be experienced, too. While silverware has been won in the eight most successful seasons of their history, the battle for hearts and minds had been a resounding defeat. For many onlookers, Chelsea have had too much money, too many egos and too misplaced a sense of entitlement. Their cast list has featured plenty of people - John Terry, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Jose Mourinho, Avram Grant - that, fairly or not, many have loved to hate. While the three-letter abbreviation ABU (Anyone But United) was coined to describe those who wished the worst on Manchest ...
NAUGHTY BOYS - Who is going to get booked first in the Champions League final? David Luiz, Ashley Cole & Bosingwa 8/1 joint favourites!
David Luiz and Gary Cahill's return to training leaves Chelsea's prospects of winning the Champions League looking far brighter... With John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic suspended, Chelsea risked entering Saturday's final with full backs Ashley Cole, Ryan Bertrand, Jose Bosingwa and Paulo Ferreira their only available defenders, forcing at least two players out of position. However, the news that David Luiz and Gary Cahill came through a competitive training session without a recurrence of their hamstring injuries on Tuesday and their confidence in being fully fit to face Bayern Munich is a huge boost. Though Terry, Ivanovic and midfield absentees Raul Meireles and Ramires will be missed, Luiz and Cahill starting should ensure that everyone plays where they are most comfortable, a luxury that their hosts, with Holgar Badstuber, David Alaba and Luis Gustavo banned, aren't expected to enjoy. The lack of options offered to Roberto Di Matteo in midfield means that, assuming he sticks with his preferred 4-2-3- ...
Di Matteo urges veterans to take last CL chance Date Posted: May 16, 2012: 11:46 Source: ESPN .inShare.0Roberto Di Matteo has told his Chelsea veterans that this is likely to be their last chance to lift the Champions League trophy - and Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger admits the German side are concerned by that state of affairs. Ashley Cole, Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard are all the wrong side of 30, and if Chelsea do not beat Bayern in Saturday's final, they will not play in the competition next season - so the door is closing on that trio. "We've got a fantastic group with quality and experience and that has shown in games," Di Matteo said. "That's shown by them carrying us to this final. To reach a Champions League final is very, very difficult. "Even for younger players, they do not know when they'll have the chance again to be in a final like this. For some of our older players, it might be more difficult to be in another final, or win it." Meanwhile, Germany international Schwein ...
Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has stated that the desire of Chelsea's veterans to win a big trophy toward the end of their career could cause problems for the Bavarians in Saturday's Champions League final. Players such as Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda and Ashley Cole have all been with the Blues for several years without winning European club football's elite competition.

When the name Ryan Giggs is mentioned, one word often springs to mind - glory! The 38-year-old footballer has been at Manchester United for 21 years and is the most decorated player in English football. He has won 12 English Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups and 2 Champions League titles. Besides all these achievements, he has been the consummate professional on the pitch. He has never received a red card while playing for United! All these feats make him not only a United legend, but a legend of English football. Although he is now a very old man by footballing standards, he doesn’t seem ready to hang up his boots anytime soon. I often wondered what the secret to his longevity is, and then I did some digging and found out some very interesting things about his personal life. The secret to his longevity in the game could lie in his dodgy off-the-pitch exploits. Ryan Giggs is quite the playa! Forget about John Terry, Wayne Rooney or Ashley Cole - Giggs trumps them all with his exploits in the world of pla ...
