CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK LANGUAGE ARTS CONTEST The Eighth Grade Leadership sponsored this contest to celebrate the spirit of Catholic Schools Week. Students in grades K - 2 drew a picture of their favorite part of OLMC School, students in grades 3 & 4 wrote a poem about how being a student at OLMC School has influenced them to help others in their community; and students in grades 5 - 7 wrote an essay explaining how they represent OLMC School in the Redwood City community. Eighth graders judged all of the entries and selected finalists. Then, as a class, they voted for the top entry for each grade. The following students submitted the best entry for their respective classes - Arianna Juarez, Kindergarten; Jewel Wilson, 1st grade; Parker Ketas, second grade; Mason Chetcuti, third grade; Nicolas Gibson, fourth grade; Genevieve Bencze, fifth grade; Ella Heinzen, sixth grade; and Morgan Ketas, seventh grade. The winning entries can be seen on the bulletin board outside of the office.

Pastors Corner January 31, 2014 Catholic Schools Week is fast approaching. It runs from January 26 through January 31. The theme for 2014 is: “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service”. On a daily basis this theme is vibrantly reflected by all our Catholic schools but especially at Bishop McHugh Regional School. Within an atmosphere of Catholic values, students are challenged by a demanding curriculum, preparing them for the 21st Century, and are living the Gospel call to service through the witness of Team Mercy. Knowledge is an important virtue but few know the history of Catholic Schools in America. Until the Civil War Catholics were heavily persecuted in our Country. John Jay, the first Supreme Court Chief Justice, advocated that all Catholics be denied citizenship and if possible deported. The newly created Public School system of the time was essentially a Protestant attempt to create a WASP country based on the reading of the King James Bible in every school. Failure to re ...

Catholic Schools Week 2014 cont... To stick with our theme of Catholic Schools Week posts, I have attached an article my dear friend wrote. Ben Potts is a principal in Michigan City, Indiana and his article is simply fantastic. Enjoy! There’s Probably an App for That: Why Catholic Schools are so Important in 2014 Ben Potts, Notre Dame Catholic School 25 January 2014 *A version of this essay appears in the Catholic Schools Week edition of the Northwest Indiana Catholic, the Catholic newspaper of the Diocese of Gary. - When I was asked to write a short essay on why Catholic schools are important in 2014, I, like any good educator, decided to cheat. I asked Notre Dame Catholic School’s 8th Graders to do it for me. I told them that a list of reasons was due the next day (“No, you don’t have to write in complete sentences this time (AND ONLY THIS TIME!); yes, it will be a grade…”). Now, I know our kids. They are faith-filled, joyful, kind, respectful, energetic, and very bright … but they’ ...

I really miss st dots student council and all the stuff we did during catholic schools week😔
Everyone Has their 9/11 story. Here's mine.. It was around 9:30 & I was walking by one of the school entrances when I heard a radio being played. I then overheard our Principal and janitor talking about some kind of fire in New York or something & I kinda just blew it off. Then about an hour later, our 7th grade homeroom teacher told everyone that two planes hit the World Trade Center and that it had collapsed. I wasn't really paying attention anyway, but The only 2 thoughts that went through my head was " Where Is the World Trade Center ??? & 'two planes hit the same building on the same day?? Wow!!!" Apparently, my entire class knew about the towers existence, except me. Still, At that time, I didn't understand what was going on. About another hour later, we went to lunch and I got upset because some parents of my classmates were waiting for them in the cafeteria. My only thought was " Did I miss an announcement for 'Bring a special person to lunch' day??? AWE MAN!!!" (That particular day was always dur ...
Last week was Catholic Schools Week, an ideal moment to review the history of advocacy for contraceptive access at Catholic-affiliated schools.
Since Ash Wednesday is next week, we’re beginning our Lenten coverage in this issue: • Bishop Hubbard’s column suggests a return to the sacrament of reconciliation, in keeping with “The Light is On for You,” a Lenten initiative inviting Catholics back to confession. • For those who’d be coming back to the sacrament after a long absence, we’ve included great tips from a priest who advises, “Just come. Don’t prepare.” • The Diocese’s Lenten regulations on fasting and Mass attendance are on page 5. • There are also two other Lenten columns: one on young adults, another on “watching the fridge” this season. Elsewhere in this issue: • A special Retirement/Financial Planning section covers issues of interest to seniors; • continuing coverage of Catholic Schools Week includes photo stories on an all-school art exhibit and a four-school fundraiser for hurricane victims, plus an article on school safety after the Newtown shootings; • a roundup of local and national news reflec ...
St. Ann's got talent Children perform in celebration of Catholic Schools Week St. Ann School’s talent show Thursday evening featured 22 acts with more than 40 kindergartners to eighth-graders performing for a full house. The schoolchildren planned and choreographed their routines, which featured singing, dancing, instrumentals, and gymnastics. They rehearsed for several months under the direction of Pamela Sonia, a kindergarten teacher, and Barbara Barszcz, a first-grade teacher. This year marks the first time that the talent show has been held during Catholic Schools Week, a national celebration of Catholic Education. “It is a time to showcase our academic and creative talents,” Principal Michele Butler said. “Our week started with a special Mass on Sunday and featured Open Houses, assemblies, and other fun activities.” “This show was an inspiring example of the very best St. Ann School has to offer in terms of talent, commitment, and community,” she said. St. Ann School is the only Catholi ...
Volunteer Hall of Fame for, Friday, February 1, 2013 Annunciation BVM School will be honoring some of our volunteers who go above and beyond the call of service to lend a helping hand to our school whenever it is needed. Each day during Catholic Schools Week, Mrs. Lucas will be posting the names of our inductees into the Volunteer Hall of Fame. Today we honor three women who have been dedicated to stepping into a variety of areas to volunteer their time to our school. Mrs. Toni Weaver has given her time and talent to our school for many years. She is an extremely active member of our Parish and School. She has organized the Christmas Bazaar and is in the process of helping to create a Parish women’s group. For years she has painted the ceramic figurines for our eighth grade athletes. She has also shared her gift of cooking with our faculty and staff by leaving everything from main dishes to baked goods in the lounge for us. Mrs. Renee Crooks is one of our volunteers who works very closely with Mrs. Har ...

The faculty and students were students amazing and the Parent Group hospitality was incredible. It was a pleasure to share our talents, education and God's Love. We will never forget you Shrine School.

It has been an incredible week and weekend in Tewksbury. For example: - Had an opportunity to meet with Senator Finegold to discuss issues that are relevant to Tewksbury. Barry and I don't agree, politically, on a lot of things but we both have a passion for finding ways to make Tewksbury an even stronger community and that we absolutely agree upon. - Went to the Ryan School on Friday evening to watch a play that the 5th and 6th graders have worked on for months and it was fantastic. Joe D was videotaping so it will be replayed on our local channel. Over 300 people were in the audience. It was just plain incredible. - Went to the Tewksbury Country Club Friday night for the hockey fundraiser. Great music, great conversations with residents from all of Tewksbury, a little dancing and just a fantastic time. - Attended the Tewksbury Cheerleading Competition at Lowell Catholic today and it was a Tewksbury Sweep!!! JV did an fantastic job and then Varsity took home the title for their division and then the ove ...
Subject: Re: GROWING UP ITALIAN Things In The Life Of An Italian Child If you're not Italian some of these things may seem a little strange. BUT if you are, this is a nice reflection back to the way things used to be...and will never be forgotten. Per tutta la famiglia mia e gli amici, ti amo oggi, domani e sempre To all my family and friends I love you today, tomorrow and always... 01. You have at least one relative who wore a black dress every day for an entire year after a funeral 02. You spent your entire childhood thinking what you ate for lunch was pronounced "sangwich." 03. Your family dog understood Italian. 04. Every Sunday afternoon of your childhood was spent visiting your grandparents and extended family. 05. You've experienced the phenomena of 150 people fitting into 50 square feet of yard during a family cookout. 06. You were surprised to discover the FDA recommends you eat three meals a day, not seven. 07. You thought killing the pig each year and having salami, capacollo, pancetta and pros ...
Pro D day on Monday. Getting ready for an exciting Catholic schools week!
Steubenville Centrals catholic schools week was about 2000 times better than ours lol
So my son has an interview with Notre Dame Catholic High School next week. We were talking about what they may ask and I asked him if he believed in God. He said no. It is a proven fact that we come from the big bang, matter, organisms, etc evolving into what we are today. I paused. "Do you you believe that there is something greater than yourself out there? Good and evil? The force if you will?" He said yes. I never wanted to push the God pushed on me as a kid but now I kinda' question if I did the right thing?

I had a wonderful author visit with the school children at Butler Catholic to culminate Catholic Schools week yesterday. The children were amazing! So much fun!
My daughter just showed me a petition from a parent at South Allegheny S.D. That wants to implement a school uniform to stop bullying? I don't think a uniform is going to stop kids from being bad. Manners and respect are taught at home by parents. Also from the many times that I am at school functions, I don't think we have a bad school district, in fact I know many of the teachers and they are better than some I've had at SA.
One more time as we end Catholic Schools Week...Great job to all of our students!

THE ASSASSINATION OF PRESIDENT J F KENNEDY (A GOOD CATHOLIC MAN): Dallas, Texas, USA, November 22, 1963 The assassin of the 35th US president has still not been definitely identified, despite the fact that the event was captured on film. What is certain is that the charismatic 46 year old who had defeated Richard Nixon in the 1960 US presidential election still had much he wanted to achieve. When JFK was assissinated in Dealey Plaza in downtown Dallas in 1963, the bullets ricocheted around the world. It caused the death of a postwar optimism and innocence which had flourished in the economic prosperity of the 1950s. That bullet, in taking the life of the USA’s virile and youthful leader, also affected millions who admired him. In the days that followed, most of the world felt stunned. People simply could not believe that anyone would want to kill such a popular figure, and that disbelief has expressed itself ever since in the many conspiracy theories - often conflicting with one another -that have arise ...
Thank you for your support of Faithful Shepherd! Please continue to keep them in your prayers as they end Catholic Schools Week.
The same conservative christian types who label marijuana the "Devil's Weed" also push their 14 year old kids through catechism classes to get them participating in religious ceremonies. Those ceremonies involve drinking wine also known as underage drinking; buts its okay because god said so. You don't think that gets the wheels spinning in a 14 year olds mind? Sounds like you just opened the door to other drugs Pastor. Oh and that alcoholism will kill you some day. In the name of Jesus, it's okay though.
This spirit/catholic schools week was boring af :| - BC

I created this for Catholic Schools Week. The children of the school twisted the paper, and I put this together. The theme was Catholic Schools Raise The Standards. The cross was made in 2008 for another Catholic Schools Week. They both worked together for this years theme. We had a super week. We had a penny war, collected baby items for Birth Choice, made baby blankets, made thank you cards for the priest, deacon, and a volunteer. The children had to guess what baby picture belong to each teacher. We had an out of uniform and wear your crasy hat day. At lunch the children had ice cream. They also wrote thank you cards to their parents for sending them to Sacred Heart Catholic School. On Sunday we had a Mass. Each class made a poster and they were put in the church. Now I'm ready for the next years theme, so I can start planning for next year.
Recvd this an email from the Archdiocese of Chicago's Education Department duirng this Catholic Schools Week: Dear Teachers and School Leaders: I am giving you my three most precious gifts and I expect you to treat them with care. Some days they are amazingly sweet and caring. Other days, they are grumpy old men. But please know I am not hiding the good kids at home. Every day I send you the best children I can raise. I send them to you because I believe you can help me mold them into happy, healthy, caring and hardworking adults. Some days this is extremely easy and other days it seems impossibly hard. If you follow this guide you will help my sons grow up to be good men. Treat my children as if they were your own. Think before you speak. Please remember every word you say to them in anger will be remembered far longer than the words you say to them in praise. Never forget that sometimes my kids think bad attention is better than no attention at all. The more often you praise them, the more often they wi ...

I'm not sure about Black history month. Don't get me wrong, I'm proud of my heritage. I just think that if our true desire is equality in society, we should not seek distinctiveness so much as being distinguished. I know it may be controversial, but think about it...
I am sorry to say that our girls lost their game tonight. It doesn't help when calls made by certain referees are suspect. They will call traveling in one game and then let all kinds of traveling pass a week later. (lots of traveling tonight with no calls. Also it is hard to decide when they call fowls or just use their own judgement. I wish there was someone to grade the refs and hold them accountable.' The games have been great and both teams tonight and the other night were great players. Any of them are winners. I wonder if anyone knows if Navarre won tonight.
Just because it was Catholic Schools Week does not mean you post 20 photos of yourself per day onto Instagram ✋
giving thanks to everyone at St Rose of Lima School in Freehold, NJ. A great end to a wonderful catholic Schools Week
The Boy Scouts of America is expected to vote next week on whether to change its national policy that bans *** leaders and *** scouts. Ended Catholic Schools Week with a bang. First volleyball--staff vs. 6th & 7th grades. We won first game 21-7. The kids rallied to win the second game 22-21. Not bad for the staff having 6 players vs. 11 kiddos. Tonight was the school dance, I think it was a good turn-out and lots of fun was had by all present. Yes, I did dance and stood right by my son to do so. He rolled his eyes the whole time. Now, my feet are up and the beer is cold.
San Miguel ended Catholic Schools Week with an all school dance.
In celebrating Catholic Schools week, the school had a trivia contest. In the final round, Alley was on one team and Andrew was on the other. I thought to myself there can't be a good ending to this. I prepared them both last night and told them they had to be good winners and good losers. Well, turns out it was a tie today between the teams. Ha...I like that.

Catholic Schools Week Parent's Choice for the New Evangelization Bishop Joseph P. McFadden, Chairman of the Committee on Catholic Education for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops January 29, 2013 During Catholic Schools Week the Catholic community takes time to recognize and support parents in the fundamental and inalienable right to choose Catholic Schools to support the faith formation and excellent education for their children. Catholic schools have a rich history in supporting the work of on-going evangelization of the Catholic community in the United States. For more than two centuries Catholic bishops, pastors and parents have educated children in parish and private schools with the intention of offering the life giving Word of the Gospel in an environment that shows respect for the human person, the virtues of good citizenship and academic excellence. This educational effort has been done without the aid or subsidies from state or federal monies but largely through the tenacious efforts ...
The stewardship model which funds Catholic schools in the Diocese of Wichita has blessed the local Church with numerous priestly and religious vocations, the diocesan superintendent of schools said.
. Lent is coming soon. Time to begin to plan. Lent is a time for Every Catholic to work on increase his faith and growing in personal holiness. But there are Many options for doing this. I would like to suggest going to daily Mass. You could go every day, or pick one or two days of the week. Daily Mass at Holy Cross is 7:00 a.m. every weekday. This is often early enough to go before work or school. Other local parishes have other times for convenience. You could come alone, bring your family, or do this with a friends. Spiritual exercise is good. .
Great Catholic Schools week including the 100th day of school :)
Catholic School Week family day at the park!
We ending our Catholic Schools Week with an afternoon of healthy fun! All school relay races and then our annual parents/staff vs. b-ball team basketball game. The gym was filled with smiles, laughter and great all around FUN!
Question from a reader.. she needs advice: My son is 8 he's a gifted student and school has.always been easy for him.,my daughter is 6 and she's total opposite which is normal since no two kids are alike. Anyways we've just got the reading thing down with my 6 year old and her kindergarten class has been doing spelling words but now they do spelling test. She's always struggled and been behind most of her peers even though she's the oldest in her class. This past week we studied her spelling words and she felt like she couldn't do a spelling test but I encouraged her anyways. Today she took the spelling test and failed, she got a 40.so her teacher has my son called over the intercom to her classroom and then asks him who studies with my daughter. He tells her that mom does. So the teacher tells him to tell him mom that my daughter made a 40,I am completely shocked that she wouldn't send a note home or call instead. I've never heard of any teachers telling a sibling of their younger siblings grades. I feel ...
Catholic school week & having lunch with the grandkids today

After attending the diocesan Catholic Schools Week mass this morning in Donaldsonville and listening to Bishop Muench, I now realize why some doors open. A year ago, a door closed and I HAD to make a choice. I thought I was a valuable teacher and a good employee, but somehow I did not fit and my door closed. Another door opened and I reluctantly accepted. Little did I realize, the happiness, joy, inner peace, and renewed faith that comes with helping young people succeed at a Catholic school. Thanks to all St. John students, parents, teachers, faculty, and staff for accepting me in their loving family. Catholic Schools Week helped me realize that my new journey is a calling from above. Thanks to my wife for reading and quoting Napoleon Hill, "Within every adversity is an equal or greater opportunity." To my family, friends, former students, former parents, and former co-workers, I thank you for the good years that I spent with you. I thank everyone for your kind words and support. My prayers are ...
All school bingo today with popcorn and drink!
We wrap up Catholic Schools Week with volunteer appreciation day. The school would not be the successful community that it is without all of our fabulous volunteers. A heartfelt thank you to those whose volunteer efforts help enrich our children's academic and faith-building environment.

We ended Catholic Schools Week today with our annual Grandparents Day. We attended mass and then celebrated with a performance of the whole school, dancing to music of the 50's. Thanks to all the volunteers who served all the treats. Remember to continue to Raise the Standards!
We are so very happy to have honored our Catholic Education this week with an Open House, school wide mass, Teacher Appreciation Day, Grandparents Day, Ice Cream Social, photo booth, a popcorn sale, Student/Parent Appreciation Day, longer lunches, restaurant family night, a Jogathon, AND a service project. Nativity knows how to "Raise the Standards!" Nice job, Bruins.
Thank you to the St. Patrick School community for their donation of 1,860 pounds of food today, collected during their Catholic Schools Week food drive! And not only did they collect the food - they loaded it all into our van!
Seen by Mrs. Miller during Catholic Schools Week: "I saw Crazy Hair, slippers, hats and plenty of blue and white. I saw children taking spelling tests and participating in science bees. I watched the third graders proudly present their reading projects. I saw first graders make graphs and 6th graders work with fractions. I saw our 8th graders take over the school; they taught, acted as principal and even got to eat doughnuts in the teacher’s room. I saw teams of students from K-8th grade cooperate during a trivia game and I watched homerooms create “machines” with the OLSH Drama Club. I watched our Pep Club cheer for our basketball players and I watched a special group of people that the children call “coach” receive a small portion of the appreciation they deserve. I watched the middle school students walking down the street toward the Knights of Columbus Building for a morning of bowling and I saw kids bringing in socks and hats for the homeless. I saw our wonderful maintenance men working ...

Just a note to let everyone know, mom, Mary Twerdohlib, passed away this morning at 7AM. Funeral prayers will be this Thurs Feb 7 at 8 PM and the funeral will be Friday Feb 8 at 10 AM. Both will be at the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Bonnyville with Father Marc.
Ok, I have to get this off of my chest. I am not meaning to offend anyone but I am kind of quietly seething right now. I was told today, AGAIN, that I am not allowing my son to grow up and experience life, that I am molly coddling him, that I am keeping him too sheltered by LETTING him go to a private school and not MAKING him go to public school.. I-we-don't see it that way all. I feel that we are giving him things that he doesn't learn in public school, like manners, and pushing your chair in, and the most important thing is respect-respect for others and especially for teachers. He is learning the necessary subjects besides learning Latin and Spanish. He also starts his day with religion and has chapel once a week. Some people think that we are doing our son a disservice and putting him at a disadvantage for the rest of his life by educating him the way we are. We teach him manners and compassion at home, as do most parents, and we practice our faith at home all week, not just on Sunday's, but it's ni ...
