As promised - here are my "unexpected" close encounters with celebrities: 1. Donald Sutherland - literally "bumped" into him as I ran out for refreshments during a baseball game in Canada. Steven King - at the luggage bay for a flight we were both just on, AND Dustin Hoffman - who was also on the flight. They both talked to me and were very nice. 4. Brit Hume - on the same cruise to England. I really made a fool of myself when I asked him what he was reading, and he said "Buffet".and I said "...oh, Jimmy Buffet??" - and as he slid his reading glasses down his nose and peered at me over them, he said slowly "No - that would be Warren Buffet..." Did I ever make an impression. 5. Finally - Chad Everette (as in Dr. Joe Gannon from Medical Center fame) at a Starbuck's. Wow. Those eyes. He talked about that sho ...

The film is a loose adaptation of the 1981 novel of the same name by Whitley Strieber, with a screenplay by Ivan Davis and Michael Thomas. The cinematography was by Stephen Goldblatt.
A film I saw only once - but remember thinking very highly of - is THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG (1964) starring Catherine Deneuve. Its dialogue is 100% sung, like the modern LES MISERABLES for example... and it's an absolutely brilliant and moving movie. Ought to watch it again at some point. Who remembers this one too?
- stunning photography by Helmut Newton... Catherine Deneuve
Traveling through the French countryside, Catherine Deneuve has the driver’s seat all the way in this attractive, customized vehicle as she tools around in just about every shot and, as often as not, is captured in close-up. Filmmaker Emmanuelle Bercot wrote the film for her and we’re all the better for it. Still so fine an actor and easy on anyone’s eyes, septuagenarian Deneuve, here playing more common than her usual classy, is a constantly engaging presence. Current fans will be thrilled; new fans will be won. Last showing Friday at 4 pm at the Film Center.

Fascinating "penultimate" Soiree Francophone here for Women's History month at Alliance Francaise tonite showcasing Women of Vietnam. Highlights included the role of women who worked undercover in the Vietnam War as charcoal sketch artists spying on encampments on the *** Chi Minh trail, making extensive notes of Viet Cong positions. There was also a rare black and white video montage of Vietnamese women who were professional nurses who tended to troops in the war effort. Incredible, rare first person narratives of women who survived the war, lost sons. Vietnamese women received medals also after the war from their govt for having sacrificed their sons! Fabulous cinema history on the film Indochine, which was a lyrical lovely movie with Catherine Deneuve who raises a Vietnamese orphan and loses her to the communists. I am reviewing the vamire horror movie The Hunger which is a very good movie. It stars Catherine Deneuve, Susan Sarandan & David Bowie. It also features a very early performance from Willem Defoe before he became a big star. This film is hugely influential on directors making adverts & pop videos. There is a commentary on the dvd & the director says if it was filmed nowadays he wouldn't have all the shadows and images that have proved so influential because now it's a little dated. The plot is that Catherine & Dave are vampires and drinking blood rejuvenates them and Bowie becomes very old through lack of blood and goes to see Susan a doctor for help. She assumes he is a bit of a nut and doesn't help him. As he leaves her clinic after waiting for ages he has aged a heck of a lot and Susan realises he was telling the truth about his premature aging. Sue visits his house but he has died and Catherine is there & turn Susan into a vampire to replace Bowie. There are then problems with Susan's husband coming a ...

Inger Stevens. She was probably most known for the television show The Farmers Daughter. She was a delicate, demure beauty much in the same way as a Jean Simmons, Eva Marie Saint, or Catherine Deneuve. Rumored to have had affairs with Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Harry Belafonte, and Anthony Quinn. I recalled feeling sad, disturbed and confused when she was found dead of an apparent drug overdose. A teenage kid, probably just into puberty , wondered why someone so beautiful would take their life so. I am still wondering.

A week from today I begin my new temporary career as movie star. Me and a mere 199 other people will be "200 terrified and desperate" foreigners holed up in the French embassy as Pol Pot started rampaging around in 1975. The movie is based on Francois Bizot's book "The Gate" which is a very good read. The director is the same guy who did Indochine, and Catherine Deneuve will be in it too.
POTICHE (dir. Francois Ozon) In French 'potiche' means vase, but in this case, it is used as the slang term for 'trophy wife'. Catherine Deneuve plays the pampered wife of a Belgian umbrella factory owner who takes executive control of the company when health issues force her husband to step down during a workers strike. She initiates Leftist, Pro-Worker policies and is an instant hit with the employees, and manages to get the firm (and her life) back on track. Only the French could produce a big budgeted, star-studded, romantic comedy about labor issues, and make it work. The politics might be a tad strident, but the costumes, hairstyles, and set design are astonishly realistic for a film that takes place in 1977. Worth A Look

Could fashion’s obsession with being thin have led to the launch of the stiletto heel back in the early 1950s? That’s one theory offered by Bruno Frisoni, creative director of luxury French accessories brand Roger Vivier, whose namesake founder was one of two creative footwear geniuses linked to its inception. The other was his competitor, Italian shoemaker Salvatore Ferragamo, known as the ‘shoemaker to the stars’, with Marilyn Monroe, Gloria Swanson and Bette Davis among his clients. “We will probably never know who was the first. It’s a bit like the debate over who invented the miniskirt – Courrèges or Mary Quant?” says Frisoni. Vivier, who for his part shod the likes of Marlene Dietrich, Elizabeth Taylor and Catherine Deneuve, took an architect’s approach to his art, creating shoes meant to ‘redesign the feet’, like the role of the corset in fashion. He designed his first-ever stiletto heel to be ‘very fine with a slight curve’. It was all about the silhouette, Frisoni say ...

Celebrity endorsements always surprise me. Not just because incredibly rich people are schilling for even more money, but that the advertisers think that using these people of sometimes dubious fame will make people buy the product. Do I have a mouthwash that protects my teeth even after eating and drinking? Well Kelly Ripa does! And her appliances make housework a breeze and almost magical. Maybe Kelly Ripa does use Colgate mouthwash but is that any reason to use it myself? Has she the proper fame or knowledge to impress me? I know one thing though, if someone making her kind of money is doing her own laundry, she doesn't have her priorities straight. Do I drink anything because a famous athlete or rapper does? Nope. And I don't wear Chanel just because Brad Pitt or Catherine Deneuve are their public faces. I buy or use something on it's own merits. Celebrity chefs sell foodstuffs and I see if what they say is of value. Yeah, Alton Brown, I like Welches grape juice and I know you are getting paid to say ...
Last night's dream sounds like something Scott Bradley would enjoy: I was watching a black and white Polanski film from '69, starring (of course) Catherine Deneuve. In the opening scene, she's very elegantly dressed - wearing a 60's thigh-length mini-dress, very Rudi Gernreich-like design - and walking through the shallow end of a lake in a lovely city park, the water up to about the hem of the dress. She carries a large bundle of clothing under one arm, and periodically plucks out another item that she casts aside into the water, all with no expression whatsoever. No, I have no idea why she was doing that, and it will probably make me nuts all day that I can't actually watch this film to find out.
Was going to put an answer into a competition to win a Intuous Stylus, buttt, it turns out you have to live in Europe. I wish lol. Anyway i spent a good 10-15 mins reading about this woman and i feel bad just deleting what i wrote so, heres my answer to "The new Parisian gallery “Galerie Cinéma” opened with the exhibition ‘Point of View’ by Kate Barry.
