Papiss Ndir Born March 2, 1962, in South Ozone Park, Queens, Scott Monroe Sterling was raised far from the grimy scene that he would later help to mold. His parents split when he was four, and he lived with his mother, Carolyn Morant, a career municipal employee. When Scott was young, they moved from Queens to the Morisania section of the Bronx, and then to Morris Heights. Scott excelled in both academics and sports at Our Savior Lutheran High School, graduating in 1980 and heading off to Vermont’s Castleton State College. He earned a varsity letter in basketball there, but as it became clear that his talent would never take him to the NBA, Scott switched his extracurricular focus from hoops music. “Our turntables were on our desks and our books were on the floor,” said La Rock’s four-year college roommate, Lee “The Mack” Smith Jr., to the Times back in ‘87. “I would come home and hear the bass before I opened the door.” After graduating in 1984, Scott returned to New York in hopes of fi ...

We currently have 15 Colleges using our shooting system and hundreds of high schools. Dont talk much about our success stories like I should. I have focused recently on improving our shooting system and getting info to our players and coaches via video ...but I want to acknowledge one of the teams using the "System". Castleton State College made 38 threes in the last 2 games and won 139-97 and 138-70. Great going guys...They are getting hot right at the right time!!!
I finally completed the custom wall mounted jewelry case! It is just over four feet high and three and a half feet wide. This case like most of my work begins with a sketch. Most pieces are one of a kind, so it is sort of like re-inventing the wheel each time I design something. I built this piece out of Birch and Ash. I went to JoAnne's fabrics and picked out a wonderful material to line the interior of the case with. With this jewelry case my customer requested hooks on the inside back and on the back side of the doors. There are 23 hooks inside for necklaces. She also requested shelves for brooches and bracelets, along with earring strips which I had fabricated in a local metal shop. I also came up with a way to display rings and other jewelry pieces on the mannequin hands. They have a marble base which I was able to put together and are removable from the case. The portrait subjects were provided by my customer and I hand painted each one in oil. There are two antique style glass pulls, and a sturdy . ...

Text from the Rutland Herald about the death of my grandmother: Beverly Mayo was a tough-as-nails political force with a heart of gold, according to friends who remembered her. Mayo, of Castleton, died Sunday in Rutland. She was 90. Friends remembered Mayo, the “Duchess of Castleton,” as an independent spirit, loyal friend, family woman, a force of nature, feisty and a Vermont legend. Several important figures revealed they had been on the receiving end of Mayo’s sense of humor. Former Gov. Howard Dean said Mayo goosed the gubernatorial backside on multiple occasions. “She was only one in the state that could get away with pinching the governor on the butt,” Dean said. “She did that a few times.” Sen. Patrick Leahy and Castleton State College President Dave Wolk both said Mayo had snuck up behind them on occasion. Leahy remembers Mayo lamenting that with her walker, she wasn’t fast enough to catch up to them at times as age crept up on her. But Mayo was more than fast enough to chase down ...

With Austins recent basketball success and street cred getting bigger and bigger as of late I think it's time to give a little shout out to coaches who helped him along the way to get to this point. Starting with Ben Morgan (6th Grade) Charles McDonough (Triple Threat Camp) Nathan Traynor (7th & 8th) Jim Taggart (Personal Trainer) Mike Stark (Castleton State College AAU) Mark Benetatos (Mill River Varsity) Elliott Seward (Mill River JV). After spending 5 years in wrestling and switching to basketball in 6th grade they have helped him go along ways in such a short period of time! He made Varsity his freshman year and is a swing player on JV as well! BIG THANKS TO ALL!

. Opinion | Editorials RECORD BREAKER December 19,2013 Late last week, a phone call from Steve Costello, vice president at Green Mountain Power and driving force behind the Gift of Life Marathon, revealed a new worry about the effort to break the national one-day blood-drive record. Costello was worried that people had become so confident about breaking the record they wouldn’t show up to give blood on Tuesday. He was worried about overconfidence. Overconfidence was not a problem. In fact, the latest marathon blood drive, held at five locations in Rutland and Rutland Town, overwhelmed the previous record. Rutland gathered 2,337 pints in a blood drive that lasted until 10:30 p.m., breaking the previous national record of 1,968 pints, held by Manchester, N.H. That’s a difference of 369 pints, or 184.5 quarts, or 46 gallons, plus a pint, of blood. In all, Rutland gathered 292 gallons of blood, plus a pint. Costello and other organizers said repeatedly, if not convincingly, that the point of the blood dri ...

Got a BEEF with complain as a woman in State of Vermont with Governor Howard Dean signed Civil Union in 2000, first homosexuality state in USA. Brenda told me,"You look like *** traveling a rural roads in the sticks as you do, you are going to beat up with men! Grip a fake wedding ring." I hated to see in my mirror, but Brenda was right! BF’s Chipman ends historic career at Castleton State College By EVAN CHADWICK The beginning of every successful athletic story starts with a dream — a dream that one day the aspiring athlete will be able to say that they are the best at what they do. For Bellows Falls native, Kealy Chipman, her dream to play at the collegiate level came later than some, but with her work ethic and desire to improve, her dream became her own reality when she elected to play field hockey at Castleton State College. “When I was a junior, I had decided that I was definitely going to to play in college,” said Chipman in a recent interview. “I knew that I didn’t want my four years at Bellows Falls to be the end of my field hockey career.” Although her decision to play at the next level didn’t fully materialize until her high school years, the building blocks, which allowed her to realize this dream started in seventh grade when she picked up a field hockey stick for the first time. “I like the little details o ...

News | Local & State Response in Castleton to underage drinking By Brent Curtis STAFF WRITER | November 14,2012 Email Article Print Article CASTLETON — Raids last weekend at a pair of parties involving underage drinking weren’t the first time this semester that Castleton State College and law enforcement officials have dealt with alcohol-related issues. College officials say since students arrived on campus this fall they have been sending the message that students are expected to be good neighbors in the community. But law enforcement officers say they’ve seen an increase in the number and size of parties involving alcohol use and consumption by minors. Officers from three different agencies working in concert broke up a pair of parties Saturday — one of which involved dozens of participants while the other, located just off the Castleton State College campus on South Street, involved hundreds of people. Incidents involving alcohol are a fact of life on every college campus but Vermont Department ...
