ON THIS DAY IN ROCK AND MUSIC: JANUARY 15 1958, The Everly Brothers made their debut on British TV appearing on The Perry Como Show. 1961, The Supremes signed a world wide recording contract with Motown Records. Originally founded as the Primettes, they became the most commercially successful of Motown's acts and are, to date, America's most successful vocal group with 12 No.1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100. 1964, The Beatles performed live at the Cinema Cyrano, Versailles, France, before an audience of 2,000. The show was a warm-up for a three-week engagement at the Olympia Theatre that would start the next day in Paris. 1965, The Who released their first single 'I Can't Explain'. With Jimmy Page on guitar and The Ivy League on backing vocals, it went on to reach No.8 on the UK chart. 1967, The Rolling Stones were forced to change the lyrics of 'Let’s Spend The Night Together' to Let’s Spend Some Time Together when appearing on the US TV The Ed Sullivan Show, after the producers objected to the con ...
Happy birthday to the late great Ronald Wayne "Ronnie" Van Zant (January 15, 1948 – October 20, 1977) an American lead vocalist, primary lyricist, and a founding member of the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. He was the older brother of current lead vocalist Johnny Van Zant and of the founder and vocalist of 38 Special, Donnie Van Zant. He is the father of singer Tammy Van Zant and cousin of musician Jimmie Van Zant. He was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, to Lacy (1915–2004) and Marion (1929–2000) Van Zant. Van Zant aspired to be many things before finding his love for music. Notably, Ronnie was interested in becoming a boxer (as Muhammad Ali was one of his idols) and in playing professional baseball. Ronnie also tossed around the idea of becoming a stock car racer. He would say that he was going to be the most famous person to come out of Jacksonville since stock car racer Lee Roy Yarbrough. On October 20, 1977, a Convair CV-300 carrying the band between shows from Greenville, South Ca ...

Lynyrd Skynyrd "Street Survivors" (1977). The original cover featured a photograph of the band, particularly Steve Gaines, engulfed in flames. The original came out three days before their plane ran out of fuel and crashed near Baton Rouge, killing Gaines, Ronnie Van Zant, and Cassie Gaines along with three crew members. Out of respect for the deceased, MCA Records withdrew the controversial cover and replaced it with a similar image without the flames (actually the back cover photo from the original album cover.) The "Flame" cover is somewhat more desirable to possess.
It was crazy talking to Artimus Pyle. He survived the 1977 plane crash that killed Ronnie Van Zant, Cassie Gaines and Steve Gaines.
Lynyrd Skynyrd. Free Bird. (Live) .1977. HD. 1080p tho't this video said it was recorded only a short time (10 days - 2 weeks?) before the untimely deaths of Ronnie Van Zant, Steve and Cassie Gaines, as well as their road manager. it makes the words to this song eerily prophetic RIP all
Should be doing something more productive, but listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd sure has its upsides. And it's only 5 days late but Ronnie Van Zant would have been 66 on 15 January. A great songwriter and very under-rated singer. Born a Travlin' Man, he's a Free Bird now, he saw Things Goin' On but he could only Cry For the Bad Man. He was a Simple Man really, but, You Got that Right that he could write and perform to the crowds. Hard to believe that Gary Rossington is the only one from the 'Classic' lineup though. RIP (Rock in Paradise), Ronnie Van Zant, Steve and Cassie Gaines, Allen Collins, Leon Wilkeson and Billy Powell.
How ironic the last song of the tri-Parish music jam was Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd band it was now October 20 the same day Anniversary that the plane crashed and killed Ronnie Van Zandt , Steve and his sister Cassie Gaines. .REST IN PEACE
Said goodbye to an old friend that I had for 21 years. We had some great memories and traveled as far east as State College, west to Youngstown, north to Erie, and south to Uniontown, and all points in between. We met some great people over the years, and played at some of the fanciest ballrooms and dirtiest dive bars around. We even had many repeat customers. As of 7 pm this evening, I sold my Bose PA System to another disc jockey from Savannah, Ohio ( near Akron ). Lonny is a few years older than me and I know he will take care of the Bose like I did. On the 36th anniversary of the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash that killed Lead Singer Ronnie Van Zant, Guitarist Steve Gaines, back-up singer Cassie Gaines, road manger Dean Kilpatrick, and pilots Walter McCreary and William Gray, I am officially retired from my Disc Jockey Company known as "Digital Sounds of Smitty" Thanks to all my fans for the support over the years and for a great 30 years spinning tunes for you.

Keep it classy Shelbyville, but lets talk about this. Do YOU think (so your opinion) it is unlikely a Shelbyville Officer was involved in a violent attack against a citizen? Why? Please, remember, if you're going to say you know something for a fact you need to produce the reason you know that (mary smith told me is not acceptable) Things like "He's a jerk and would do something like that" must be followed up or preceded by "I THINK he would" or "MY OPINION is that". This site will not allow slander against calvin, city officers, county officers, or any human being in general. For it to remain up, we cannot create a page that encourages lies and false accusation I will remind you of this before we start: "Generally speaking, a fact is something that has actually happened or that is EMPIRICALLY true and can be ***supported by evidence***. An opinion is a belief; it is normally subjective, meaning that it can vary based on a person's perspective, EMOTIONS, or ***individual understanding*** of something" The ...
**UPDATE** Well, another bump in the road, Adalee has a leak in her tube, she is too big for the vent tube she is on, but not quite big enough for the next size up. so because of that they had to put her back on the oscillator, and give her some meds to "paralyze" her, at the moment she is her own worst enemy with the vent, all her moving is causing the tube to leak more. they will have to continue with this course of action until she get to 1000grams and can have the tube changed out for the next size. BUT that shouldn't take too long, because our little peanut is growing very fast, she is up to 1lb 11-1/2oz, up from yesterdays 1lb 10oz. that's 40gm she gained in 1 day, so she needs to gain approx 250grams, and at the rate she is going, hopefully it will only take a week. the downside is that mommy cant hold until they can change out the tube. Thank you all for all the love and support!!! *Auntie Sage*

This weekend has been the hardest few days that I have EVER experienced. I feel as though I have lost not one, but two loved ones. Only time will tell this (literally). Rest In Peace Grandma. I love you!
Ladies, you can be sexy and be modest simultaneously. We all grow old. We all get ugly. It's life. It's the values and morals and modesty that you have that stay in tact. Not your boobs. Just sayin.

Almost a year ago today, My mom & I were on our way to the neurologist, a year ago today, my life changed dramatically. Earlier that year I was in a serious car accident with one of my best friends, Savannah Osborne. we were lucky we survived the accident that morning on our way to school, recovery went well, little did I know the journey didn't stop from there for me, they took a MRI because I hit my head on the rear view mirror as well as the dash in the accident, and said they needed to take another one, the first doctor told us "Most likely it's just a fluid sack, that you've has since you were a baby, not harmful, but we'll check it out." a couple months went by, I told very few people because it wasn't a very big deal to me." About a year ago today, mom checked me out of school, and we were headed to Bristol neurology, on the interstate, I said "Mom, what if it's something serious, like a brain tumor." "Cass, it's not, don't say that." We dropped the conversation there. I walked into the waiting roo ...

True Lynyrd Skynyrd story of plane crash On Thursday, October 20, 1977, simply several days after the discharge of Avenue Survivors, and several dates into their for the most part efficacious featuring tour to date, Lynyrd Skynyrd's sanctioned Convair 240 advanced mechanical challenges close to the close of their flight from Greenville, South Carolina to LSU in Implement Rouge, Louisiana. From the grave of Ronnie Van Zant, Steve and Cassie Gaines-tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Poem written by Charlie Daniels, on bench overlooking them. "A brief candle both ends burning. Million miles, a bus wheel turning. A handshake and a sip of wine, a friend to share the lonesome times. So say it loud and let it ring, that were all part of everything. The present, future, and the past. Fly on proud Bird, you're Free at Last".Took a Greydog to Jacksonville a few years back, to make a visit and pay homage to them. The poem by Charlie flat blew me away! Written by him the night The Free Bird fell to the ground.

Today is the 35 th anniversary of the plane crash that took the lives of Lynyrd Skynyrd singer Ronnie VanZant , guitarist Steve Gaines and singer Cassie Gaines . RIP
35 years ago today, we lost what could have been the greatest American band ever. Ronnie VanZant, Steve and Cassie Gaines and three others died in a horrific plane crash, in a plane that should have never been allowed to be in the air in the first place! All I know is that even though the band went on...it was never the same! I still love Lynyrd Skynyrd...and I always will...but if the plane crash never happened, Lynyrd Skynyrd could have bigger than Aerosmith, Van Halen, Bruce Springsteen...etc! Whenever Sweet Home Alabama comes on the radio and it gets to the part where Ronnie says "turn it up" i always touch my heart and point to the sky in tribute...and Freebird and Sweet Home Alabama aren't even in my top 10 Skynyrd songs! Rest in peace Ronnie, Steve and Cassie! SKYNYRD FOREVER!

On 10/20/77 music lost a great voice, the great southern poet Ronnie Van Zant. In addition to the Okie Steve Gaines & Cassie Gaines, along with others. The voice of the common people, only 4 yrs. of recordings, and their music is still remembered today. We won’t know what they would’ve done but we can look back at what they have left us.
Memorial resting place of Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines & Cassie Gaines... Although Ronnie has been moved, the emotion is still very strong.
I covered a lot of their stuff ,,great band.

I was only 5yrs old, but i still love the music!
Ronnie Van Zant, Lead Singer Steve Gaines, Guitarist Cassie Gaines, Vocalist (Gaines’ sister) Dean Kilpatrick, Assistant Road Manager Walter Wiley McCreary, Pilot Willian john Gray, Co-pilot Before the wreck, there was no hysteria. The ‘plane was completely quiet. No one was freaking out. … I felt at that moment that everyone was speaking to their concept, whatever it was, of God. Artimus Pyle, drummer, 1977. It was early Thursday evening when the crash happened. News didn't travel that fast on a college campus. Saturday morning breakfast with some buddies at the the Carolina Coffee Shop and I decided to buy a newspaper (Larry and Duane's conversation must have been a bit slow that morning). What a shock for a southern boy to learn about the demise of some of his musical heroes. October 20th 1977.
Steve and Cassie Gaines RIP. You will fly on forever!

Hi , On October 21st I was in the Army at Fort Sill , Oklahoma . It was a beautiful Sunny Blue Sky Day it was allso a off duty day . I walked across the compound towards where a radio was playing Purple Haze and when it ended they came on with news of the Rock Band Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crashing in the early evening of October 20th , Taking the lives of Ronnie Van Zant , Cassie Gaines , Dean Kirkpatrick , Steve Gaines & Pilots Walter McCreary & William Gray . I'd heard news cast of people in bands dying before and feeling bad about hearing it , but what made this so shocking with me I knew their music and Who they were . I was a fan of theirs , and unlike others who I'd heard of I felt a Loss I'd had only felt with Family and Friends that had passed . What brought me to Like & Love them so much was the Honesty & Truth of their music as if Ronnie and the band were just speaking to me , They had an Energy & Electricity in their performance that you could feel came from Their Heart , Their Soul & Their Life ...
