Bitte nicht verpassen! Heute Abend bei uns: „Declan Galbraith“ Please introduce yourself. My name is Declan Galbraith I'm a singer and songwriter from England. In the past I have released albums with EMI and Warner Music but in 2008 I realised I was no longer making the music I wanted to, so I took a break to focus on my own songwriting and now I'm beginning to showcase this through intimate, acoustic gigs. Please describe your style/ type of music in just four words. Folk, Rock, Funk, Experimental Which musicians do/did influence you? Pink Floyd, Leonard Cohen, Deep Purple, Cat Stevens, Carole King, Fleetwood Mac, Paul Simon, and many more... Why should come to Café Tasso on 11.04.? What can be expected? On the 11.04 at Cafe Tasso I'll be playing around 1 hour of music with guitar and cello. I made a conscious decision to take a break and move away from my old music and I think it will be interesting for people to hear what I'm doing now. I'll only be doing a few of these intimate, acoustic gigs in ...
Can't recall the previous time to this one (shown in this photo) when I wore a suit, closed shirt, and tie - living the natural life in Sedona as I do. But for show-business, I put on what I call the "monkey suit." The reason is that I was in the dress rehearsal for “Long Island Purim,” the sing-along show based on the “Book of Esther,” Sunday, March 16, 10:00-11:15 am, at the Jewish Community of Sedona (JCS), a free event. This show is set in modern-day Long Island with Esther as the new wife of a billionaire businessman, rather than a queen in ancient Persia; but she still “saves” the Jews from being fired en mass from a large corporation, rather than executed. I shall play the role of Mordecai, who is Esther’s uncle/guardian. The songs we all shall sing were adapted from the works of Long Island composers (Paul Simon, Carole King, Neil Diamond, Billy Joel and Marvin Hamlisch). The JCS is at 100 Meadowlark Dr., off Hwy 179, Sedona.
In your status, list 10 albums that have stayed with you in some way (ten is hard! it should be 20 ~A). Don't take more than a few minutes and don't think too hard - they don't have to be the "right" or "great" works, just the ones that have touched you. Tag some Friends, including me! All these seem to be from my teens/early 20's. The original Emo gal looking to escape... I hear certain songs and am instantly transported back to that time in my life. 1) Tapestry ( Carole King ) 2) Between the Lines (Janis Ian ) 3) Bridge Over Troubled Water (Simon and Garfunkel) 4) Diamonds and Rust (Joan Baez) 5) Rumors (Fleetwood Mac) 6) Hotel California (Eagles) 7) The White Album (The Beatles) 8) Graceland (Paul Simon/ Ladysmith Black Mambazo 9) The Pretender (Jackson Browne) 10) Cold Spring Harbor (Billy Joel)
Carole King wrote songs for others before becoming a performer and writing for herself. In her memoir, A Natural Woman, she details the stories behind some of her most famous songs and her relationships with songwriters like James Taylor, Gerry Goffin and Paul Simon.
New Tin Can Alley posted at "mighty1090kaay.blogspot.com" and "archive.org." Stuff for the class of '73 this week, with Elton John, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Eddie Kendricks, Carole King, Steely Dan, Mandrill (take note, Colter McCorkindale!), Seals & Crofts, Loggins & Messina, Paul Simon, The O'Jays, and Cat Stevens. And it's just not 1973 without visits from both Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew. And even some Wilbur Mills on top of that!

Daily Decision. EDIE BRICKELL beat CARRIE FISHER yesterday as the preferred Paul Simon wife - but only by a single vote. More votes came in on the Apples/Oranges issue, but, oddly enough, they kept the result for that question at a tie. FRIDAY FREE-FOR-ALL: THE BOSTON STRONG CONCERT. Were you there? So I am home on a "snow day" with lots of other stuff I should do, but I am publishing my list of the greatest modern singer/musician song writers. By 'Modern" I exclude people like Woodie Gutherie, Hank Williams and Robert Johnson (all of whom would be above some people on the list) and people I loved in the 70s but didn't do much later (like Carole King, James Taylor or Joni Mitchell) or people you might vote for (like Van Morrison or Elton John) that didn't make my cut. There are two exclusions. Blues artists ~ I'll do a separate list; and Rap, they are too new to meet the endurance criteria of my list. So here goes: (1) Dylan (Duh); (2) Lennon/McCartney; (3) Paul Simon; (4) McCartney; (5) Bruce Springsteen; (6) Lennon; (7) Neil Young; (8) Bob Marley; (9) Brian Wilson/Beach Boys; (10) Richards/Jaeger/Stones; (11) Bono/The Edge/U2; (12) George Harrison; (13) Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day); (14) George Harrison; (14). So my Top Ten has 14. Discuss among yourselves.
Attention wonderful musicians out there! I am looking for someone to arrange some 7 piece charts for Leigh and I for a ship gig. Most of the great arrangers I know are busy with The Voice. The songs include James Taylor, Carole King, Paul Simon, Carly Simon and Joni Mitchell covers. Any suggestions who may be able to do it?
Hello friends of Gritbiscuit Records and singer-songwriter Christopher Lockett. A most extraordinary review of Lockett's music was recently published on BlueRailroad.com, the esteemed Paul Zollo's online music magazine. Zollo is the author of the book Songwriters on Songwriting, which features 60+ interviews with the likes of Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Neil Young, Paul Simon, Tom Petty, Burt Bacharach, Brian Wilson, Willie Dixon, Mose Allison, Carole King, Townes Van Zandt, Richard Thompson, Leonard Cohen, Randy Newman, Sammy Cahn, Dave Brubeck, David Crosby, and Frank Zappa. Some real heavies and some of Lockett's songwriting heroes. we here at Gritbiscuit, a tiny boutique label created to feature Lockett's work, are beyond proud of what Zollo had to say. The review in its entirety is at: are some of the highlights: "He writes lyrics with the earthy grace of Merle Haggard... a country songwriter swimming against the prevalent Nashville current of pop country to return to the deep waters of songwriters like ...

Australia.job well done.taken from a news feed from Reuters. ROCK REVIVAL Once a remote destination for big rock acts, Australia has been flooded with talent over the past year and faces a steady stream of musicians, including heritage acts, in 2013. The strong dollar has made Australia the ideal place to perform for musicians wanting to make money at a time when touring rather than album sales is the main driver of income, with many acts charging a premium in a cashed-up economy. In the first half of 2013, Australia will see tours by Bruce Springsteen, Pink, Guns N'Roses, Ringo Starr, ZZ Top, Thin Lizzy, the Steve Miller Band, Deep Purple, Santana, Status Quo, Robert Plant, Neil Young, Carole King, Paul Simon and Kiss. The high ticket prices have upset some fans, who question why an artist like Springsteen charges $220 for a premium ticket in Australia, when the same ticket to the same show in Connecticut in October cost $90. "You can't tell me it costs more than double per head to stage a concert here i ...

1619 BROADWAY on Spotify: Our good friends at Concord Jazz put together a very cool playlist on Spotify with Kurt's songs from 1619 BROADWAY - THE Brill Building PROJECT, alongside the early versions that inspired them. Compare & contrast Kurt's versions with those from The Cookies, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, The Coasters, Carole King, Paul Simon, & more.
