Carl Nicks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers parted ways last month after a toe injury kept him out of all but nine...
It is good to see that Johnthan Banks is fighting through a staph infection and not letting nicks and cuts stop him from playing. It's game time. Cornerback Johnthan Banks, the third Tampa Bay Buccaneers player diagnosed with MRSA, is not a risk to transmit the severe staph infection to other players and has been cleared to play Sunday, the league announced Saturday night. Two other Buccaneers players -- kicker Lawrence Tynes and guard Carl Nicks -- contracted MRSA in August. Tynes, who has since been placed on the nonfootball injury list, is still being treated for the infection. Nicks did not play until Week 3 because of the infection. On the team's injury report Friday, Banks and Nicks were listed as questionable to play Sunday. Banks is expected to play Sunday, but Nicks is unlikely to appear in the game, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard Carl Nicks will not play Sunday against the New Orleans Saints -- his former team -- because of a toe injury, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Nicks, who officially is listed as questionable, returned to practice this week for the first time since being diagnosed with a MRSA staph infection in August. Nicks and Bucs Coach Greg Schiano both indicated that the two-time Pro Bowler needs more practice time before playing in a game. Nicks, 28, spent his first four seasons with New Orleans before signing a $47.5 million contract with Tampa Bay prior to last season.

Best Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2013 Superbowl Lines: 110 to 1: There’s no confidence across the league in the Bucs this year, but we do think that Tampa Bay has some potential. Josh Freeman should take some steps in the right direction, especially with his three new starters in Doug Martin, Vincent Jackson, and Carl Nicks that were added. Defensively, Mark Barron is a bona fide star in the making, and that should help out a much beleaguered secondary. Head Coach Greg Schiano has to prove that he can coach at the NFL level, and if he really is good enough to do the deed, the Buccaneers should suddenly be a force again in the NFC South.
