Capitol Hill & Tea Party

Capitol Hill, aside from being a metonym for the United States Congress, is the largest historic residential neighborhood in Washington D.C., stretching easterly in front of the United States Capitol along wide avenues. A tea party is a formal, ritualized gathering for afternoon tea. 5.0/5

Good Morning. Happy Hump Day. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel will be in the hot seat today on Capitol Hill. He'll explain -- forcefully --to lawmakers about why he authorized a deal to swap five Taliban prisoners for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. According to the NYT, Hagel wrote every word of his opening statement and will be ready to defend his decision. We'll carry Hagel's testimony...live. A miracle. That's what David Brat supporters are calling his huuugge upset win in Virginia. The Tea Party-backed candidate beat House Majority Leader, Eric Cantor. No one predicted this, not even the Tea Party. Is it a sign the Tea Party is stronger than ever? Probably not. Was it because Cantor supported some form of immigration reform? Maybe. Was it because Cantor took voters for granted? Most likely. We'll talk. Another day, another tragic school shooting. This time in Oregon. President Obama said, "The united states does not have a monopoly on crazy people. It's not the only country that has psychosis. And yet we kill each ...
But all over the country, in national, State, and local elections, the GOP establishment is working feverishly to keep Tea Party candidates out of office or to defeat incumbent Republicans who support the Tea Party agenda. In fact, one way I can tell whether a candidate deserves my support or not is by the support or opposition he or she receives from the GOP establishment. If the Republican establishment supports him or her, I can pretty much know that I should vote for someone else. The reason that Boehner, Karl Rove, and other big-government Republican leaders are trying so hard to defeat Justin Amash in particular is due to the fact that Amash has quietly but effectively spearheaded the momentum of small-government conservatives on Capitol Hill. Since the retirement of Ron Paul, Amash has successfully formed a potent coalition of constitutionally-minded Republicans within the Tea Party movement. He calls his coalition the "House Liberty Caucus." Of course, most of the framework for this caucus was put ...
Coming up tomorrow on Varney and Company, Will the IRS REALLY hand over all of Lois Lerner's e-mails? We asked one of the Tea Party leaders who was targeted by the IRS, Becky Gerritson, for her thoughts on this latest development, and what she wants to see happen to Lois Lerner going forward. Do you think Lerner should be jailed on Capitol Hill? Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist will also be in studio with new details on how much residents in Democrat-governed states are paying in taxes compared to those with Republican governors. There is also talk of an Internet usage tax for millions of Americans...would you pay money just to get online? And we all know going to the dentist can often be painful. but we will show you the latest technology being developed to ease that pain. We talk to the inventor of DentalVibe in our 11 AM hour. Those stories, and all of your market headlines, at 11 AM EST!
Thom Tillis won the GOP primary today for NC's seat in the U.S. Senate, he's who will take on Kay Hagan in November. I'm glad. I know I may be making some folks uncomfortable by saying this, but we do not need hardline wingnuts of EITHER PARTY on Capitol Hill, and I DO NOT approve of how the Tea Party in particular thinks that forcing America's credit rating to be downgraded in the international community, via default on the National Debt, is the way to force reductions in government spending. I also am no fan of the ideological Christian right that Pope Francis himself recently called out, and political candidates who identify with them that are pushing things that to me reek of the things the self-righteous Pharisees of the Savior's time were doing, that mandate condemnation and punishment for social problems instead of the compassion our Savior put on display in the strongest possible terms. Compassion MUST come first, and what the hardline ideological Christian right pushes in my view harms our pub .. ...
What we need right now, is a "We the People" party. To be honest, I am so sick of the Republicans, the Democrats, and the Tea Party, and truthfully, most Independents are wusses. I think a lot of people believe the same as I do, that the current group on Capitol Hill are completely defective. All 435 in the House, All 100 in the Senate, and BOTH in the Whitehouse. It is time for a new party, a party that is not divided, is made up of real life people. People who work for a living, People who know what its like to live by the laws that Washington passes. A party that will go into Washington and say STOP THIS BULL!! America needs to take back those first three words of the Constitution, We the People. And in 2014, We the People have a chance to become the biggest Party ever in history. In 2014, All 435 members of Congress CAN be replaced! All we have to do is NOT vote for any members who are Incumbent, and vote in a replacement for every last one of them. THAT will send a message to the remaining 66 member ...

GOP Firebrands Tone Down Their Message and Run Again Ill. - "My name is Congressman Bob Dold!" said the fleece-clad man making his way through a popular restaurant here. Well, not exactly. His name is Bob Dold, but he isn't a current member of Congress. He's a former congressman who represented the 10th District of Illinois. "And I'd like to again," he tells a table of diners about to tuck into a giant cheese crepe. Mr. Dold is seeking a political resurrection in next November's election, after just one term on Capitol Hill. After riding the Tea Party wave to Washington in 2010, he was swept out of office by the Obama tsunami in Illinois in 2012. Now he is among at least nine Republicans, a mix of former incumbents and previous challengers, who are running again - but with a difference. This time they have shelved their incendiary remarks about President Obama and the national debt in favor of anarrower focus on the Affordable Care Act, which they hope will attract moderate voters from both parties, even ...
If you follow the real facts--not from Red State or The Blaze (LOL); here you go...I copied the comments of Gregg Hilton, as he shared this article. In case you have noticed the organized shenanigans going on with some of the so-called conservative groups and talk shows hosts.it is an obvious threat to our party...so I ask...where is Jim DeMint and what is he doing? or Erick Erickson or Matt Kibbe? What are their intentions? "I am not a fan of RedState, Heritage Action, the Senate Conservatives Fund, ConservativeHQ, or FreedomWorks. Similar to many Tea Party groups, they thrive on dividing the GOP. However, I do read their websites and I have been impressed. They have had excellent sources on Capitol Hill. The GOP has a 17 seat House majority and the outside groups have easily found 30 to 40 lawmakers to stop us. The Republican Study Committee and its well attended weekly meetings have been a key source of their power. Paul Teller agrees with Jim DeMint. He would rather limit the GOP with a purity test th ...
THE KOCH MACHINE — I just posted 14 of my best Koch Brother images in the thread of my earlier post today found here. Please share it widely. These charts and other images I created show the method and madness of the Koch Brothers attempt to conquer Earth. Go to this link and scroll down to the 14 images. THIS is what the Tea Party is all about: polarizing Congress and polarizing American political discourse as misdirection while they steal all of America's wealth by eliminating jobs and removing labor and environmental regulations. Share these FAR and WIDE, please. Our future may depend upon it. Thanks! The GOP and the Tea Party are such a bunch of stinking, dyed-in-the-wool liars and hypocrites it ain't even funny. They are so upset, so out done that the roll out for "Obamacare" has been less than smooth and they are so steaming mad about the computer glitches, they're holding hearings about it on Capitol Hill. Yet, the GOP and the Tea Party have NEVER expressed anger and outrage when American citizens have to stand in line for 5, 6 or 7 hours to exercise the right to vote! And the less than smooth roll out for Obamacare HAS NOT cost this country $24 billion dollars, but that's the amount it's cost the US for the GOP and Tea Party engineered government shutdown. By the way, WHEN will Congressional hearings be held with regard to the "government shutdown?" And the GOP has the nerve to be upset that people have experienced difficulty enrollling in a healthcare plan they don't support!!! Are you serious?!?!? Really?!? Seriously?!? PUH-LEZEZE! Spare me!!

Cruz's rising star helps Democrats Democrats have got to love Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, almost as much as members of the Tea Party, the GOP fringe group that hoisted him into national office. In office just ten months, Cruz has slashed and burned his way to the front ranks of would-be candidates for the Republican Party's 2016 presidential nomination. He's gotten more national news media exposure during his short time on Capitol Hill than many senators get during a full six-year term. Cruz's swashbuckling political moves during the partisan fight over funding the federal government's operations and paying the nation's bills turned him into a rock star for Republican radicals. Cruz was, by far, the most outspoken leader of GOP resistance to any compromise with Democrats. Even when Senate Republican and Democratic leaders were arriving at a last-minute compromise, Cruz met secretly with a group of Tea Party members in the House -- presumably to help them plot a strategy to defeat the deal and defy their Repub ...
Fiscal Crisis Sounds the Charge in G.O.P.’s ‘Civil War’ After the budget standoff ended in crushing defeat last week and the political damage reports began to pile up for Republicans, one longtime party leader after another stepped forward to chastise their less seasoned, Tea Party-inspired colleagues who drove the losing strategy. State Senator Chris McDaniel of Mississippi is running against Senator Thad Cochran, a fellow Republican. Mr. McDaniel called Mr. Cochran’s vote to end the fiscal standoff “more of a surrender than a compromise.” “Let’s face it: it was not a good maneuver,” Senator Orrin G. Hatch of Utah, the senior Senate Republican and supporter of the deal that ended the showdown, said on Thursday in an interview from his Capitol Hill office. “And that’s when you’ve got to have the adults running the thing.” Around the same time, roughly a thousand miles away in Mississippi, a 42-year-old Republican state senator, Chris McDaniel, was announcing his bid to take the s ...

WAKE UP, CITIZENS OF AMERICA, AND READ! AN OPEN LETTER TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE by Riley William Bratton on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 10:41am Dear Citizens: First, it is my contention that the average American doesn’t understand the distinction between the National Deficit (ND-) and the National Debt (ND). Each year that the U.S. federal government spends more than it takes in, this is known as a national deficit. The accumulation of the annual deficits from George Washington’s administration in 1789 to the present is referred to as the National Debt. Unfortunately, we are without the genius of Alexander Hamilton to tear down the Tower of Babel that has been erected among the Republicans, Tea Party-ers, and Democrats that the American voters sent to Capitol Hill in our most recent elections. Second, I also believe that the average American does not understand the reasons why the National Debt has increased so significantly from 1981 to today. Third, most Americans do not understand what a Debt Ce ...
TODAY ON THE Alex Jones Show TSA grope downs no joke On the Friday, October 11 edition of the Alex Jones Show, Alex gives an in-depth week-in-review of the ongoing debate on Capitol Hill over raising the debt limit and Obamacare, and the accelerated attack on Tea Party conservatives. Alex also discusses how the families of departed military members were spitefully held for ransom by the Obama administration, and breaks down the ludicrousness of the TSA's authoritarian threat to arrest travelers for simply joking about being groped. On today's show, Alex welcomes former Congressman and three-time presidential candidate Ron Paul to break down the political tug-of-war taking place in Washington and why Janet Yellen, the new fed boss, will be the same as the old boss. Also, former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura talks to Alex about developments in his potential run for presidency and his latest book They Killed Our President.
...they're fighting to prevent it (ACA) from being implemented. Here was their order of the day on Thursday from the popular right wing blog RedState.com: “Congressmen, this is about shutting down Obamacare. Democrats keep talking about our refusal to compromise. They don’t realize our compromise is defunding Obamacare. We actually want to repeal it. This is it. Our endgame is to leave the whole thing shut down until the President defunds Obamacare. And if he does not defund Obamacare, we leave the whole thing shut down.” Once upon a time when I was a young man working on Capitol Hill, it was commonplace that when a bill became law, everybody was unhappy with it. But you didn’t bring down the government just because it wasn’t perfect. You argue and fight and vote and then, due process having been at least raggedly served, on to the next fight. That was a long time ago. Long before the Tea Party minority, armed with huge sums of secret money from rich donors, sucked the last bit of soul from the ...
Monday night, nine Congressional Democrats showed solidarity -- with John Boehner. They sided with Boehner and the Tea Party Republicans in their attempt to delay the Affordable Care Act -- which of course they know they can't actually do. What they can do -- and did -- was shut down the government. We want better government, not no government at all. Tell these nine Representatives that they've made a Big Mistake. Sign our letter telling Reps. Kyrsten Sinema, Ron Barber, John Barrow, Steven Horsford, Dan Maffei, Sean Patrick Maloney, Jim Matheson, Mike McIntyre and Raul Ruiz that it's wrong to side with the Tea Party bullies trying to stop Obamacare. The government shutdown has already closed HeadStart programs, furloughed workers and even closed medical trials for young cancer patients. And that's just the beginning -- the longer this shutdown continues, the worse it will get, for all of us. Politicians on Capitol Hill need to remember they work for real working peopl
How the Pentagon made certain their contractors -- not their employees -- wouldn't miss out. I don't mind astronomical telescope mirrors -- if used to watch stars and steroids. : Gordon Campbell on the shutdown of the US government by Tea Party terrorists October 4th, 2013 Surely, isn’t it time for the Republican Party to be designated as a terrorist organisation? Their current shutdown of the federal government has been bad enough, but the jihad these fanatics have chosen to wage against the Obama administration will shortly spill over into a conflict over the debt ceiling that threatens serious damage to the entire global economy. Organisations have seen their assets frozen and had travel bans imposed on their leadership for doing far less than what the Republican Party is currently doing on Capitol Hill. The ransom that the militant Tea Party faction of the Republicans in Congress were demanding (pre-shutdown) was that President Barack Obama had to postpone the enactment of his health care plan .. ...
Mike Lee Reveals Details of the ‘All-Out’, ‘Demeaning’ Attack Against Him and Ted Cruz…During Meeting with Republican Senators During an informative radio interview on Friday, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) revealed just how much opposition he and Tea Party favorite Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) are facing within their own party as they try to change things in Washington, D.C. Lee told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt about a recent closed-door meeting with Republican Senators, during which he and Cruz were “attacked” and ridiculed. Details of the meeting were leaked to the press, but the sources of the leak were not willing to go on the record and reveal their names. Doing so fabulously this morning, I've removed one FB friend for sending more game requests in the last three days than I've received in the last week (his feed was all photos and game notices and I don't know him from Adam, or I don't remember him), and blocked another one on someone else's feed because I just don't have the time to deal with all the Neo-Conservative crap that's flying out there this week and the people who still...STILL...think this is about fiscal responsibility. Let's just say, I'm not looking forward to the 17th. That's when my Ansel Adams report is due for class. There's bugger all I can do to stop the political suicide happening on Capitol Hill, and I've got more immediate work to do and midterm projects to worry about. Stupid effing Tea Party. This is what they wanted. I hope they get exactly what they deserve.

Tea Party groups have rightfully rejected the public apology issued at an American Bar Association meeting on Friday by Ms. Lois Lerner, a senior official of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), for blocking s tax exempt clearances for conservative Tea Party groups. Allegedly it was due their political views during the 2012 Presidential cycle. This weekend the US House Ways and Means Committee weighed in after a yearlong investigation. The Committee released a letter to IRS Commissioner Shulman raising eleven points for clarification. This included IRS targeting of Tea Party groups. Commissioner Shulman’s responses will be closely watched at a hearing this coming week on Capitol Hill in Washington. Pro-Israel Zionist groups like Z Street have an abiding interest in the current Tea Party furor raised by the IRS revelations. Discrimination by the IRS of Z Street views became the subject of a legal action filed in August 2010 originally with the Eastern Federation District Court in Philadelphia, ...

By the time you (may be) get asked, you'll be perceived as a not-so-serious latecomer. Late-comers don't win. -- Don't fear other women candidates. You're not running because you are a woman. You are running because you have something to contribute to public decision-making, of course reflecting your life experience as a woman, ...

Is the Tea Party just another name for an anarchy party? Granted, given that the Tea Party was financially turbo-charged by the Koch Brothers (Americans for Prosperity) and *** Armey's FreedomWorks, it's a challenge to define members of the loose-knit group. It's clear, for instance, that a significant segment of the party consists of individuals who are venting their racist gripes with President Obama. But if you look at the corporate media conventional wisdom perception of how the Tea Party impact plays out on Capitol Hill, it is an uber anti-government force that believes taxes of any kind are akin to theft. This is not just an eccentric BuzzFlash at Truthout theory; there is indeed a school of libertarian economic theory known as anarcho-capitalism. In fact, the son of Milton Friedman - the guru of the Reagan-era school of economics, which now seems liberal compared to the Cantor/Bachmann/Tea Party theories - is one of its foremost adherents. David Friedman believes in the primacy of the individual a ...

Finally, The Meida's Stranglehold on America, With It's Inherent Left Wing Bias and Liberal Prejudices, Being Dismembered. An Army of Breitbarts By Robert Stacy McCain on 10.11.12 @ 6:10AM Toward the end of the new movie Hating Breitbart, there is a scene that captures the essence of what the late New Media entrepreneur Andrew Breitbart did -- and how he did it. The camera follows Breitbart as he makes his way up Capitol Hill, past the crowd at a 2010 Tea Party rally where the founder of Breitbart.com was about to give a speech. "Hey, Andrew, remember me?" says a man amid the throng on the opposite side of the crowd-control barricade. "I'm the one who sent you that video ... the nine-second clip." Breitbart knew exactly which clip the man was talking about, and remembered the online moniker of the amateur cameraman who sent it: "Marooned in Marin, right?" The significance of that moment isn't explained in the movie, as director Andrew Marcus is content to let viewers connect the dots for themselves when B ...
To clarify a point re: "Tea Party"; I am not against the "Tea Party". Some points are good and others lacking. I am an Independent who realizes we NEED 1 or 2 more real parties. Partisan Politics are killing us. Right now there is a school for Veterans who feel they can continue to serve and make a difference. "Seth Lynn thinks that's one of the problems with our political system these days, and he's working to change that. Lynn, a Naval Academy graduate who spent six years in the Marines, helped found Veterans Campaign to train former service members interested in running for office. He notes that as the number of veterans on Capitol Hill has dropped, there has been "an almost parallel decrease in America's confidence in Congress." ". Some have chosen to make a difference. I want to be in that group and do what I can to give this country back to The People. Like and share if you agree.
Fox News' Sean Hannity responded to Jon Stewart Wednesday evening after the Daily Show host called out the network for using old footage from a larger September 12, 2009 "Tea Party' protest to illustrate a much smaller health care rally on Capitol Hill last week.
Several Republicans are considering revenue increases to reach a budget deal, but first they'll have to convince the Tea Party. Is there a real Republican revolution taking place behind the scenes on Capitol Hill?
R.I.P. GOP!!! Tea-party-backed Ted Cruz beats establishment candidate David Dewhurst in Texas' costly Republican Senate primary runoff. Cruz's win over Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst provides another example of the tea party movement's influence on voters and turnout — even for a candidate who has never held elected office. More than $40 million was spent, including $14 million from outside groups, according to records compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics. The Tea party sure has a lot of money for a “grass-roots” political party. A wealthy businessman, Dewhurst poured $11 million from his own fortune into the race, but outside groups seeking to influence the outcome matched that. Capitol Hill observers note that many Tea Party-backed legislators want to remove the taint of Republican-back government spending during the Bush administration. The Tea Part may have been grass-roots in the beginning but now they have been usurped by big money just like the other two other parties. This money has been ...
Instead of blaming the Tea Party, gun laws, or anyone else for that matter, why don't we blame the scum who shot those people? Was it the dog's fault that David Berkowitz shot all those people? Likewise was it John Lennon's fault Charles Manson identified with "Helter Skelter"? I realize this comment really doesn't offer any solutions, but instead of playing the time-honored Capitol Hill game of pointy fingers, let's keep those who have lost someone in our thoughts- and try our best to prevent this from happening again.
Big Mistake: Congressman Tells Tea Party Activists That Fighting for the Constitution Is a Losing Battle (Video). Tea Party activists didn’t appreciate Congressman Paul Gosar (R-AZ) telling them, “if all you do is stand for the Constitution you will lose.” What happens when a Republican Congressman tells Conservative Activists that fighting for the Constitution is a losing battle? It was broadcast on LiveStream by The Tea Party.Net I’m sure Rep. Gosar would like to take back that statement!

Remember folks, what tomorrow stands for. Remember our forefathers who went to war with Great Britian because they believed in this country and the need to have representation if we were going to be taxed. Remember that they died so that YOU could have a voice in what is done for your country and to your country. Take back the control they gave us to make decisions for ourselves and not have a dictator or king making those decisions for you. Because as sure as *** is hot...if you dont start opening your eyes and paying attention to what is happening on Capitol Hill your decendants will be fighting another war for Independence in the future...those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it. No matter whether you are Democrat, Republican, Independent or Tea Party remember what tomorrow stands for and raise your voices to your elected employees and tell them what YOU want. Its not about them. Its about YOU.
One of the causes Andrew Breitbart cared about most passionately was disproving the lie that Tea Party members had hurled the “N-word”--not once, but more than a dozen times--at black members of Congress as they marched through a large crowd of anti-Obamacare protestors on Capitol Hill in March 2010...

"As I reported for ThinkProgress last year, David Koch visited Capitol Hill as Republican freshman were being sworn into Congress. He was a guest in the Speaker’s office on John Boehner’s first day on the job. I ran into him on his way out of the Capitol. Koch grinned as he told me that the Tea Party is composed of “just normal People Like Us.” A few moments later, I asked if the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision had helped him with electing the new Congress. He cringed at the question, picked up his cell phone, and walked away." So the answer would have been "yes."
