The discovery and archaeological study of Chandraketugarh, 35 kilometres (22 mi) north of Kolkata, provide evidence that the region in which the city stands has been inhabited for over two millennia.[12][13] Kolkata's recorded history began in 1690 with the arrival of the English East India Company, which was consolidating its trade business in Bengal. Job Charnock, an administrator who worked for the Company, is traditionally credited as the founder of the city;[14] in response to a public petition, the Calcutta High Court ruled in 2003 that the city does not have a founder.[15] The area occupied by the present-day city encompassed three villages: Kalikata, Gobindapur, and Sutanuti. Kalikata was a fishing village; Sutanuti was a riverside weavers' village. They were part of an estate belonging to the Mughal emperor; the jagirdari (a land grant bestowed by a king on his noblemen) taxation rights to the villages were held by the Sabarna Roy Choudhury family of landowners, or zamindars. These rights were tr ...
respected advocate in Bengal, who became the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta, and his mother was Lady Jogmaya Devi Mookerjee. Syama Prasad grew up to be “an introvert, rather insular, a reflective person; also an emotional person”, who needed someone else by his side to give him emotional support. He was seriously affected by the early death of his wife Sudha Devi and never remarried.[1] Mukherjee obtained his degrees from the University of Calcutta. He graduated in English securing the first position in first class in 1921 and also did MA in 1923 and BL in 1924. He became a fellow of the Senate in 1923. He enrolled as an advocate in Calcutta High Court in 1924 after his father had died shortly after losing to Syed Hasan Imam at Patna high court. Subsequently he left for England in 1926 to study at Lincoln's Inn and became a barrister in 1927. At the age of 33, he became the youngest Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta (1934), and held the office till 1938. He enjoyed only elev ...
Disappointed to see Gunday. First thing YRF should stop their publicity of Gunday by saying that it is based on Kolkata. 1) Just merely showing Dakshineshwar Temple and Calcutta High Court in a song and Howrah Bridge in most of the scenes doesn't mean that the you are showing Kolkata. There are lot of things in Kolkata other then Howrah Bridge. 2) Kolkattians doesn't play holi during 'Durga Visarjan' .The stupidest thing shown in Gunday is Arjun Kapoor face smeared with Abir. Seemed like director was in his own world creating some new rituals. 3) Kolkata's bong women doesn' t wear noodle strap blouses that too in the fish market. People will look the *** outta them. 4) It was less Gunday and more of Bromance which was quite irritating specially whenever Ranveer Singh while hugging Arjun Kapoor get inside his nape. 5) Priyanka role has nothing new to offer. 6) I kept on wondering that after winning National Award for Paan Singh Tomar what the *** is Irfan Khan doing in Gunday? 7) The director tried to ma . ...

Dear Madhuri Mam, thank you very much for enlightening us on the issue of Netaji’s marriage. Your piece was truly worth reading. It shed bright light on several issues. But Mam, I have certain confusions. I shall be extremely pleased if you put my dilemmas to rest. 1. You have stated that, “The only difficulty was to get the necessary marriage permission from the German Government…” • If this is the case, then where is the application seeking the permission??? • Again where is the permission which was granted for the marriage??? 2. About the marriage-date you have mentioned, “… and got therefore married according to Hindu fashion in January 1942.” • As per Leonard Gordon’s book “ Brothers Against the Raj”, Netaji married in the year 1941. • In Shekhar Bose’s “ Netajir Sahadharmini” its again 1941. • Sisir Bose, in his affidavit against ‘Jayasree’ in the Calcutta High Court in 1977, used 1942 as the marriage year. • Once again the date got changed. In 1994’s boo ...

Physically disabled people demand better treatment KOLKATA: The Sruti Disability Rights Centre and Human Rights Law Network (Kolkata Unit) are contemplating contempt proceedings against the West Bengal government for not complying with Calcutta high court directions in regard to facilities for physically challenged people. In June this year, the high court after hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on the subject, had directed the state government to ensure that disabled people aren't harassed, reservation of two seats for the blind, orthopedically or congenially handicapped in stage carriage vehicles, including private and mini buses and better facilities for disabled people on roads. "Nothing has been done in this regard by the state government till now. Disabled people continue to be harassed and have no access to public transport. The incident on December 24 in which a disabled lady and her 10-year-old daughter was subjected to harassment on a minibus is ample proof of this. This is no isolated ...

MUMBAI: In a rapidly rising trend that experts term disquieting, unauthorized, even defamatory, many public sector banks publish photographs of defaulters and guarantors of loans in the media as public notices. Defaulters of commercial loans and even personal and educational loans increasingly run the risk of finding their pictures in print. The name and shame operation that so far the public sector banks, consider necessary to recover their money, lacks the backing of any specific legal provision say lawyers, citing a recent judgment of the Kolkata high court. The Kolkata HC had this May prohibited the State Bank of India in two cases from publishing pictures of loan defaulter or their guarantors. It had differed with the ''unfounded'' view taken in 2006 by two other high courts—in Mardras and Madhya Pradesh —and said the banks by publishing photographs without any legal sanction damaged the reputation of guarantors. The practice of the banks however remains unabated. It had led to an outcry and prot ...

Is horse a pet animal? Sukumar Mukhopadyay Can one ever think that such a simple issue as — horse is a pet animal or not — could ever go to the High Court and the Supreme Court? But that is what exactly happened. And I am not doing only story telling here but shall also tell the readers how some complicated legal issues of interpretation in fiscal statutes got settled by this horse case. The issue arose because a race horse owner imported a race horse for breeding without licence claiming that the horse could be imported under the Baggage Rules as a pet animal. Pet animal is allowed as baggage. The importer, Shaik Md. Omer, described himself as an industrialist who was interested in breeding and maintenance of pedigree horses. He owned several horses which were treated and kept as his pet animals and that he also owned race horses and since 1950 he started breeding horses out of mares owned by him. When he claimed it as unaccompanied baggage, the Customs observed, “It is not a case of unaccompanied ...
FishingEnquiry inFiscal Law Sukumar Mukhopadyay Does law allow fishing enquiry, also called roving enquiry ? It is called fishing enquiry for a reason. Catching fish by throwing a net in a river or in a big pond knowing that there must be some fish after all, is an activity which has been frequently likened in the judicial parlance with the activity of officers searching premises or vehicles or examining documents in the general belief that there must be some offence after all. In a fishing expedition, there is no specific information about the existence of a particular fish at a particular point. Therefore such activity of mounting a search or special audit without a specific information has been described as fishing expedition in judicial parlance. The question is whether it is legal or illegal. The answer is that it is legal in respect of audit and illegal in respect of searches. The legal provision in respect of searches in all fiscal laws such as laws of income tax, customs, excise is that th ...

Immersion under tribunal lens Jayanta Gupta, TNN | Oct 24, 2013, KOLKATA: The tradition of immersing idols may soon be ripped off puja celebrations with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) taking cognizance of an application by environment activist Subhas Datta, seeking a ban on this ‘method’. Datta refuses to call idol immersion a ‘ritual’. In his application, the activist claimed that the ‘ritual part of immersion’ is completed at the place of worship itself. According to him, immersion processions and the ‘throwing’ of idols into rivers have now become superfluous, gorgeous, colourful, competitive and polluting, which aren’t backed by religious necessity. Datta’s application was backed by an Allahabad high court order that banned immersions in Ganga and Yamuna rivers from 2014. He contended before the NGT that uniformity needs to be maintained so far as pollution of rivers is concerned. If immersions are banned in Uttar Pradesh, it wouldn’t make sense to allow them in Bengal. “In ...

The court, while expressing displeasure at the rampant blocking of important thoroughfares for Durga pujas, had said that it has been alleged that ministers were behaving like goons in organising pujas and the state was not taking any step. High court delivers double whammy to Mamata Banerjee regime ■ West Bengal's Mamata Banerjee government Thursday suffered a double whammy in the Calcutta High Court which disapproved of her time frame for the Kamduni gang-rape and murder probe, and directed the regime to include all leading newspapers in the list of publications to be kept in state-run and aided libraries.
In a big setback for Mamata Banerjee's government, the Calcutta High Court today said the government must keep most circulated papers in state-run libraries in West Bengal.

Limit to Authority: parliamentary democracy is more about responsibility than authority and Constitutional schemes can not be tampered with. Calcutta High Court has rejected the earlier decision of the state government to arbitrarily select and prescribe which newspapers can be kept in the state funded libraries.Everyone had condemned the move of the government but the government perhaps was waiting for the denouncement by the Court. You get what you deserved. Sooner or Latter.
Most people are aware of the Barasat Fast Track Court's admonishment of the State CID but how many of you are aware of State Government Lawyer not arguing for HAATH KATA DILIP's punishment in Calcutta High Court yesterday ? How many of you are aware that Haath Kata Dilip was defended in Calcutta High Court by a very well known Counsel who is also an important Leader of Ruling TMC ? Following a murder in Salt Lake in 2004 , Dilip was arrested and convicted by a lower court . By the time TMC Govt came to power in May , 2011 , Dilip had already appealed against the Lower Court's verdict in Calcutta High Court but following a deal between the Ruling TMC and Haath Kata Dilip , Govt Lawyer diluted the Case resulting in his release yesterday . Given to understand that TMC is gearing up to give Haath Kata Dilip a grand reception in Salt Lake !

Justice Kemaluddin Hossain A refugee from Calcutta's legal street, he was sensitised to the minority predicament. AFTER a brilliant academic stint at St Xavier's College in 1945, I aspired to be a judge of the Calcutta High Court. But the 1946 riots made me scared, and for the first time, insecure. It had never occurred to me that I was a Muslim, on the wrong side of the border. This was partly due to the fact that I grew up with Hindu friends. And also because my father, Rafiquddin Hossain, Lal Babu to his friends, was an associate of Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Strangely, things began to improve after the '46 riots and we were excited about Independence. On the night of August 15, 1947, the wall of suspicion crumbled, giving way to an unprecedented feeling of Hindu-Mussalmaan bhai-bhaiism. I enrolled in Calcutta University's Law college and took the Bachelor of Law degree. I passed the Chamber's examination from the Calcutta High Court, topping the list, and was awarded ...
Syed Ameer Ali (1849–1928) was an Indian Muslim jurist hailed from the state of Oudh from where his father shifted and settled down at Orissa. He was a prominent political leader, and author of a number of influential books on Muslim history and the modern development of Islam, who is credited for his contributions to the Law of India, particularly Muslim Personal Law, as well as the development of political philosophy for Muslims, during the British Raj. He was a signatory to the 1906 Quran Petition and founding-member of the All India Muslim League. Syed Ameer Ali traced his lineage through the eighth Imam, Ali Al-Raza, to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Forefathers of his are known to have held office under Shah Abbas II of Persia and taken part in Nadir Shah's invasion of India. After the plunder of Delhi, the family line then settled in the Sub-continent and started serving Muhammad Shah. Another of his forefathers fought against Maratha Empire in the third battle of Panipat. Finally, when his grandfather ...

Calcutta High Court in India today directed the state government of West Bengal to hold a three-phase Panchayat (local government) poll and complete the entire process by July 15. The Division Bench of Justice Arun Mishra, Chief Justice, and Justice Joymalya Bagchi also dismissed the State Election Commission (SEC)'s plea for deployment of Central forces for overseeing the poll and held that the state government was free to meet any shortfall either with forces from neigbouring states or Central forces. The state government was directed to announce the poll schedule in consultation with the SEC in three days. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, currently in north Bengal, welcomed the court’s decision and said the Panchayat polls will be held soon. Demarcating the 57,590 booths for the Panchayat election into four categories--highly sensitive, sensitive, less sensitive and normal--the Division Bench spelt out the security arrangement. 14 people dead already. And we still don't know if there will be an election. And the Hon'ble State Government hasn't managed to find a single lawyer competent enough to explain to it the mandate prescribed by the Constitution, which clarifies beyond any doubt the jurisdiction of the Election Commission during times of election in all matters of governance related to the same. And the Hon'ble Calcutta High Court, in keeping with the spirit of 'panchayati raaj' plays moderator to a barter between these parties, instead of simply answering the questions of law. And the Opposition (honorable or otherwise) is lamentably restricted to raising a futile hue n cry in the media, sending its top brass to chitter-chatter on prime time tv. And You and I, we... well, we're 'apolitical' of course, we simply conclude that the deaths are unfortunate, and that the 'Country has gone to the Dogs'. And guess what? We're absolutely right.

Today marks the Shaheedi of Baba Banda Singh Ji Bahadur. An eyewitness account of the shaheedi is as follows: The paragraph which refers to the arrest and massacre of the Sikhs at Delhi in 1716 is extracted from a letter dated Delhi, March 10, 1716, written by Messrs. John Surman and Edward Stephenson to the Hon'ble Robert Hedges, President and Governor of Fort William, etc., Council in Bengal. These gentlemen and their Secretary, Hugh Barker, were then present in the Mughal capital as ambassadors of the East India Company's Council in Bengal to the Court of Emperor Farrukh-Siyar. Under instructions of their principals, the ambassadors maintained a regular Diary of the events and transactions at the royal court, and wrote to Calcutta to keep the headquarters informed of the political and other developments there. This letter of March 10, 1716, was read at a consultation at Fort St. George on Tuesday, 5th June, 1716, and is to be found in the Madras Diary and Consultation Book for 1715 to 1719, No. 87, Ran ...

DEMOCRACY IN West Bengal… The West Bengal Assembly elections in 2011 marked the defeat of the Left Front, which has been uninterruptedly running the governmental affairs of the state for 34 years. The Left Front has accepted this electoral mandate ‘with all humility’ and promised to play the role of a ‘responsible and constructive opposition in the state assembly.’ However, the state of West Bengal is currently witnessing a series of attacks against the Left, allegedly by the anti-left opposition forces. The largest communist party of India has already appealed ‘to all democratic forces in the country to protest against such anti-democratic attacks and physical violence directed against the opponents of the ruling alliance’ in the state of West Bengal. Any politics of violence is essentially a crisis of political hegemony. A politics which cannot democratically mobilise ‘people’ behind its project, takes refuge to violence. This is true for any kind of extremist politics like terrorism a ...

India's 9 Prominent Brand Battles . ‘Face is the reflector of mind’ and thus, the ads can be considered as the reflector of the brands. With the increase of media’s reach, most of the brands have started using the electronic media as a platform to describe themselves; ads are their only way to achieve this glory. However, some of the brands are using ads as a medium to express their superiority over the other similar brands. These sorts of rivalries can be seen with brands from all perspective of the business world. Below are India’s most notable brand battles that have been running since ages, as listed by Economic Times. 1. Reckitt Benckiser Vs HUL . The thirty years old war between these two brands went straight to the kitchen this time. As soon as the UK based firm, Reckitt Benckiser started airing its dishwashing gel’s ads, HUL filed a case against them in the Calcutta High Court. While the hearing was going on in the Calcutta High Court in the case of the WB Govt. vs. the Election Commission of WB on 4th. June the learned Advocate General of WB at one point remarked that 'like a beautiful lady, the State Election Commission has been raising demands one after another.' Quite naturally this gender-biased remarks have created resentment and anger amidst the civil society. The eminent social activist nicely said in a panel discussion that the remarks hints that the beautiful ladies are brainless and they are nagging. She of course did not say anything about the so called 'ugly' women and I, too, do not like to make comments on them out of sheer indecency. It is know doubt that the remarks go against the modesty and dignity of the women irrespective of their physical appearance. The concept of physical beauty of women is also gender biased perpetrated by the patriarchal society. Whatever it may be' my question is that why the court will not give a stricture to the lawyer for passi ...

Sixty km from Chandigarh, the Dagshai cellular jail is situated in the little-known and hardly visited cantonment town of Dagshai. The building and adjoining areas were used as a storage yard until it was identified. After it was cleaned up with the help of the Army, a well-designed and strongly built structure emerged. It needed little or no repairs and the spruced-up building has been converted into a museum. The Dagshai jail was constructed in 1849 at a cost of Rs 72,873. It has 54 maximum security cells. These cells are 8'x12' with 20-foot high ceilings and heavily barricaded windows and doors. Of the 54 cells, 16 were for solitary confinement. Judge, counsel trade words - Complaint of observations-order mismatch irks court. State Election Commission counsel Samaraditya Pal today told Calcutta High Court that its observations during hearings did not always match its eventual order, triggering an exchange with Chief Justice A.K. Mishra who said such a complaint was “unheard of”. Pal was referring to today’s division bench order on rural poll security that was silent on the court monitoring its implementation by the state. According to the counsel, the court had observed during hearing that “if it is necessary, it would (so) monitor”. The exchange came after a court official had read out the interim order asking the state to provide adequate police protection to ensure candidates were not prevented from filing nominations. Pal immediately asked for a second reading, issuing a complaint that veteran lawyers said had no precedent in recent memory. Here’s an account of the conversation, written from memory by reporters present in court. P ...

Anubrata: Anubrata Mandal, President of Birbhum District Trinamool has called his party men to physically resist filling of nominations for the Panchayat elections by 'enemies'-- Congress and CPI (M). He was caught in camera. Everyone is condemning him. Election Commission has asked for a report on his speech from the District Magistrate. I said to Times Now channel that strongest possible legal and punitive measure must be taken against him. But the man may be excused, not because he is now eating his words but because of the plain-speak he allowed himself. Others in his party are already practicing what he has preached. After all he personifies the TMC in most ways.
Audacity of advocate Samaraditya Paul has crossed the limit. What is he thinking himself - an omnipotent? Time has come that Hon'ble High Court Of Calcutta should control this man who is thinking Hon'ble Court's patience and gentleness as weakness. If this man is not kicked out from the courtroom it will be vulnerable to the prestige of the justices and will trigger innumerable contempt of court. He (hostile Samaraditya Paul) has cited a bad example to the newcomer legal practitioners.
High court unhappy at fighting between government, SEC: The Calcutta High Court directed the West Bengal govt to ensure that nobody was prevented from filing nomination for the panchayat election.
5. Sandalwood Pandit told you what is important for the eternal Dharma (Sanatana) culture, he outlined some of the main principles of this elusive ideal. Righteousness - it's feet, and liberation - is the head of human society, while the other two Purusharthas, the goal of human life - economic development (artha) and desire (kama) - the essence of the torso and other body parts. Now the head and feet are ignored, and the rest is vital. This is the tragedy of our time. The ancient texts of this country given many warnings about this. Kauravas - usually cited example disaster awaiting those who pursue the ideals of wealth and the desires (artha and kama) without the influence of the control and release of righteousness (dharma and moksha). They reveled in the power and greed overcame their pride, their tormented insatiable desires, they have experienced untold suffering and were destroyed. Ravana fell because hoarding wealth, seized by lust, kama. His ten heads point to the possession of the four Vedas and ...

***Letters from Andamans*** Letter 2 Cellular Jail 15- 2- 14 Port Blair. My beloved Bal, And now coming along. A year has rolled by and the happy day has come back again! Only those who had been in a jail can fully appreciate what a Soul-entrancing blessing it is to hear from home, to write to Home!! Sweet- sweet something like the sweetness of conversation in the moonlight, by the sea-beach, with one whom one loves and adores! But wait; the bell is gone and I must go to take my food—it is 10 A.M. …yes, now I have come back again, after having taken my food in the general file of the denizens of the jail. Yes I said it was sweet; in fact the day of a letter to Home is to me always the real पाडवा my new year’s day; I count my year from that day; for I get a stock of energy and enthusiasm from the communion with my chosen few, which enables me to breathe and live and laugh a year further on. I was sorry not to write earlier and to compel you to undergo the troubles of sending a telegram. The ...

YesterdayI was watching in AVP Ananda,a Bengali channel showing funeral of Rituparna where Mamta Di was also present. I was shocked to see 5or6 policemen in ceremonial dress giving Gun Salute with any coordination lowering the gun, aiming at air anf loading bullets in age old 303 rifels. Why such poor show when whole world was watching?
Songs.pk re-launched as Songspk.pk after Calcutta HC banned it : radioandmusic.com Music website Songs.pk which was banned in feb 2012 by the Calcutta High Court, has been re-launched with a different domain name ‘Songspk.pk’. The records show that Sushant Mangat is the domain owner of songspk.pk, the same person who also registered songs.pk. The domain was registered on 2 February 2009. Songs.pk has played smartly by just moving the site to a different name, circumventing the Court order. As per the petition filled by Sagarika Music Pvt Ltd before the high court on 27 Jan, all ISP’s were directed to block access to the website by DNS name blocking, IP address blocking via routers and DPI based URL blocking. Phonographic Performance Ltd, The Indian Music Industry and Sagarika Music Pvt Ltd were seeking a restraint on internet access to download, stream, disseminate, and reproduce copyright music on this site.
Anyone here that can open songspk or djmaza?

Our Struggle – Rule of Law and Bakri Id is proved yet again that the Muslim society in the Indian state of West Bengal doesn’t have any reverence for the law of the land. It has also been proved whether the government of West Bengal can implement the ruling of High Court on the same Muslim community. We are not in need of evidence any more. It is already known to us – how much Muslims revere the Indian laws, respect Hindu rituals and tradition, how government and administration cope with the simply unjust demands of the Muslim community, and what is the real role of appeasing political parties in this context. We know all these very well and Hindu Samhati is committed to putting an end to such discrimination and injustice. It is worthwhile to mention that the Hon’ble Calcutta High Court, prior to the last Bakri Id, issued a declaration terming slaughtering of cows on account of Bakri Id as illegitimate. The hearing of the lawsuit took place thanks to the writ petition (W.P. No. 1378 of 2010) filed ...

Afghans in J&K for ‘pitch’ battle - First foreign senior cricket team in state in 27 years MUZAFFAR RAINA The Afghan players with Jammu University officials Srinagar, April 26: Afghans have come to Jammu and Kashmir as predicted but slung across their powerful shoulders are not guns but cricket kitbags. The Afghanistan Youth Cricket Association Club has come to play in the state, making it the first sporting team from the trouble-torn Central Asian country to visit the conflict-ridden state. The visit comes at a time worries are being expressed that Pakistan might divert some of the militants operating in the AfPak region to Kashmir as the US prepares to pull out of Afghanistan. The cricket club, which has players aged between 17 and 29, will participate in a T20 tournament in Jammu’s Chenab valley, a former militancy hub. The All India Gufraan Tournament, which begins on May 9, is being organised by the Doda-based Young Star Cricket Club. Captain Khaliq Dad Noori said the team was delighted to be i ...
Why a Hindu (or non-Muslim) Girl must not Marry a Muslim -- The Story of Sabra (or Chhabera) Begum: Nageswar Das was a resident of the village Hatiara, under the police station Rajarhat in the district of North 24-Parganas. On April 1, 1997, his daughter Saraswati (21) converted to Islam by a court affidavit, renamed Sabra (or Chhabera) Begum, and married Muhammad Mirajuddin, a resident of 30A Beniapukur, Kolkata. Hardly after 6 years, on December 2, 2003, Mirajuddin divorced her by oral talaq, (just by uttering the word ‘talaq’ thrice). On the same day, his advocate Jafar Nawab of Calcutta High Court sent the copy of the court papers regarding the decree of divorce (No. 786/475/2003 dt. 2.12.03) to Sabra Begum. In the mean time, she has become mother of 4 children. The reader should try to comprehend the helplessness of Sabra Begum. It was not possible for her to return to her father’s house with 4 children born out of a Muslim father. Had she been in her youth, she could have taken shelter in a br ...
Duo might flee, tamper with evidence: prosecution A court at Bidhanangar on the city’s north-eastern fringes rejected the bail petition of Sudipta Sen, chairman and managing director of the scam-tainted Saradha Group, and one of his close associates and remanded the duo in judicial custody. The Court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate A.H.M. Rahman remanded Mr. Sen and Arvind Chauhan till May 31 in connection with an FIR lodged by an investor accusing them of cheating and other offences. Five more cases were registered against Mr. Sen during the day, even as he expressed happiness with the ongoing probe. When he was being whisked away by a police officer, journalists asked him whether he was happy with the ongoing investigations. Mr. Sen said: “Yes, I am happy, happy.” Earlier this week, the prime accused in the multicrore swindle case, had filed an affidavit before the Calcutta High Court stating a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation was not required. Of the five new cases against him ...
Upananda Brahmachari | New Delhi | 12 March 2013:: On Friday, 1st October, 1999, MR. Justice K. M. Yusuf, a retired Judge from Calcutta High Court and the then chairman of West Bengal Minority Commission, said in an interview that the total percentage of Muslims in India is at least 20 %. In an interview to Business Line he conveyed his concern to the interviewer and that was published in the National Daily “Hindu” in the very next day. In that interview Justice Yusuf highlighted the so called plight and exploitation of Indian Muslims and it was published under a headline, ‘It’s easy to exploit Miuslims in the name of religion’. Justice Yusuf encompassed out the irresponsibility of the State for various discrimination (absurdly designed under al taqiyya ) upon Muslims but never pointed out the population explosion in Muslim Community which is very much detrimental for the social and economical development of Bharat (India). Otherwise, Justice Yusuf promoted the Muslim population of India indirec ...
Abu Taher From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia For the Buyid ruler of Hamadan see Shams al-Daula. Lt.Col. Abu Taher: Abu Taher (Bengali: আবু তাহের) (1938–1976) was a communist and a left-leaning radical activist of the Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal, responsible for the Soldiers Mutiny and Uprising and the radical breakout that occurred in Dhaka, which killed countless officers and men, along with their spouses on November 7, 1975. As a Captain, Taher escaped from Pakistan during mid-July with three other fellow officers and successfully made contact with Indian authorities. He spent further two weeks at Dehradun, RAW HQ's, for debriefing and then sent to BDF HQ at Calcutta. With orders from 8 Theatre Rd., he reported to BDF Sector Commander Major Ziaur Rahman who officially appointed him 2nd Sub-Sector Commander of the 11th Sector at Mahendraganj. On October 10, 1971, Major Shafaat Jamil under interim orders from Major Zia transferred command of Sector 11 to Taher temporarily. Just only 22 da ...
‘I attended the Court proceedings during the trial of my sister Kalyani. She was punished to serve a term of rigorous imprisonment for having allegedly attended a meeting which could not be held and for being a member of an unlawful society only on the basis of the evidence of her having a proscribed leaflet in her possession. This was to my mind grossly unjust. Though she is an Honours Graduate who had earlier lived in all the comforts of a middle-class family, yet ignominy was hurled on her during her prison-life. The jail-dress and jail-diet of ordinary convicts classified as third class prisoners, and the sleepless nights amongst such criminals, militated against my whole being. I saw all these with my own eyes and also witnessed the bitter tears welling out of the eyes of my dearest parents.’ (STATEMENT BEFORE THE SPECIAL TRIBUNAL OF CALCUTTA HIGH COURT-Bina Das)

CHAPTER ONE MY FATHER On his Death Extract from a speech delivered by the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court ofCalcutta to mourn the death of Amiya Nath Bose, 29 January 1996. “It is indeed a sad day that we have lost not only a great legal luminary but also an outstanding patriot of our country on the 27th January 1996. Coming from the illustrious family of late Sarat Chandra Bose and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose he really matched his seniors in the family not only in his patriotism but also as a man of outstanding qualities of head and heart. It is indeed true that such a rare personality is hardly seen those days making his mark in almost all spheres of life wherever he had probed through. He was outstanding for his candour, for his felicity of diction and his mastery in the field of law and that apart, we respect him because even in the field of politics where he joined, after a few years being almost in the hegemony of his illustrious father, he made a mark of his own. He never compromised wi ...

Babu language lands govt in a fix on joke Calcutta, Feb. 22: A “routine” note from the Prime Minister’s Office and a “routine” response by a state government department may have landed the Mamata Banerjee government in a not-so-routine situation. The PMO had written to the Bengal government asking it to take necessary action in response to a petition by Jadavpur University teacher Ambikesh Mahapatra, sources said. The teacher had sought the PMO’s intervention to make the Bengal government honour recommendations by the state human rights panel and drop the criminal charges brought against him for circulating an Internet joke on the Chief Minister. In response to the PMO letter dated December 18, 2012, a state government official requested another wing of the government on February 11 to “take an immediate redressive action”. In bureaucratic parlance, “redressive action” would mean following the steps suggested by the panel. In this specific case, the rights panel had recommended action ...

Hindu Mega Rally In Kolkata --- Invitation To Make It A Grand Success (Bengali) The Fifth Anniversary of The Founding of Hindu Samhati After overcoming multiple hardships that came in their way, the tireless activists of HINDU SAMHATI are finally ready to celebrate HINDU SAMHATI's fifth foundation day, on February 14, 2013. The Government of West Bengal tried its level best to prevent us from organising any public event in the heart of Kolkata. However, thanks to assistance from the Hon'ble Calcutta High Court, just as in 2012, this year also we have plans to arrange a mammoth gathering. But what provokes our curiosity is - Why are we being hindered? Is Mamata Banerjee paranoid of organisations like ours? Probably not. To keep her treasured ' Muslim vote bank' intact, she has been continuously bowing down to the completely undemocratic demands of the Muslim fundamentalists. And the irony is that, their fascist and undemocratic activities are carried out in West Bengal and India in the name of “Seculari ...
Reliance Communications gets stay order against one-time licence fee :- The Centre's attempts to collect over Rs 5,000 crore this fiscal as a one-time fee from mobile phone companies for the airwaves they currently hold has received a setback as leading operators have managed to obtain stay orders from different courts in the country. The latest telco to win a stay order till February 28 is Reliance Communications, with the Calcutta High Court directing the telecom department on Wednesday not to take any coercive measures against the company to recover Rs 173.47 crore against existing GSM airwaves held by it. A Reliance Communications spokesman declined comment on the development. The likes of Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Vodafone India and Aircel have already managed to stall imposition of the one-time airwaves charge that was to come into effect from January 1, 2013. In case of Bharti Airtel and Idea, the Bombay High Court had recently asked the telecom department not to engage in "coercive action" to ...
