Mamelodi Sundowns return to their fortress when they host Soweto giants Orlando Pirates in a league clash at Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday night, as they look to close the gap on log-leading Kaizer Chiefs. Chiefs, who lead the Brazilians by nine points, will be involved in a Caf Champions League fixture next weekend and will not be involved on the local scene, allowing Sundowns the opportunity of narrowing the deficit and playing one of their two games in hand over the Amakhosi. Sundowns have only lost a single game at home this season, against Chiefs, and will look to add three more points to their 20 points out of a possible 27 at Loftus. The Pretoria outfit head into the clash on the back of a league and Nedbank Cup double over Ajax Cape Town last week and are looking for a fourth consecutive Premiership win. Pirates, meanwhile, survived a serious scare over the weekend, as they were pushed all the way into a penalty shootout by NFD outfit Thanda Royal Zulu in Richards Bay. The Buccaneers eventually went ...
Orlando Pirates will be looking to register their third successive PSL win when they lock horns with Mamelodi Sundowns at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday night. The Buccaneers edged Bidvest Wits 2-1 in a midweek clash -- their first win under caretaker coach Eric Tinkler following the resignation of Roger de Sa a week ago. Tinkler will be chasing a second win, which would keep the Sea Robbers in the hunt for a top-four finish, as they continue to play catch-up in the league after Caf Champions League commitments last year. However, the Soweto giants will be without their influential midfielder Thandani Ntshumayelo, who has been ruled out due to suspension.

He's already signed a pre-contract with Chiefs, but the AmaKhosi would want to use his services for the Caf Champions League sooner. 'Killer', as Mphela is affectionately known in the football fraternity, made his intentions very clear that he wants out of Sundowns when his contract expires in June this year. And despite a number of overseas- based clubs interested in his services, the 29-year-old has decided to remain in the PSL to boost his chances of returning to the national team. Mphela is seen as a replacement for want-away Lehlohonolo Majoro who has recently snubbed a move to SuperSport United ...
Bafana Bafan coach, Gordon Igesund named a strong squad for the tournament, but did not name any Orlando Pirates players, due to their local Premier Soccer League (PSL) commitments, as they look to catch up fixtures that were previously postponed due to the Soweto club's participation in the Caf Champions League. Instead, Igesund named a host of Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns stars, as well as a handful of Platinum Stars players. However, the AmaKhosi selected players have been withdrawn. According to Kaizer Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung, this is because the Chan tournament is not a FIFA-sanctioned event and that they are not obliged to release their players. What did Khune and Shabba do? Give that award to Senzo - Masinga Former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Phil “Chippa” Masinga has told Goal that he would prefer Senzo Meyiwa to win the Goal South Africa Player of the Year award. He believes that Meyiwa’s performances this year, especially in the Caf Champions League, makes him the favourite to win the award. “All the players have done well this year, but I think it’s different with Pienaar because he had a few injuries this year which for me rules him out of the race,” he said. “So, I think Senzo Meyiwa deserves the award based on his team’s fine form in the Caf Champions League, and how he played during the tournament itself,” added Masinga.
