KWARA 2015: Are the Sarakis struggling for survival? The two most prominent children of the late elder statesman, Senator Olusola Saraki: Senators Bukola Saraki and sister, Senator Gbemisola Ruqqayat Saraki are fighting from different angles for lead position in the affairs of their father’s political patrimony. Could they both lose out? BY DEMOLA AKINYEMI These are not the best of times for Senator Gbemisola Ruqqayat Saraki, GRS as she is fondly called by her admirers. GRS is still unrelenting in the grudge war with Brother Bukola over the latter’s leading role in stopping her gubernatorial pursuit in 2011. Besides fighting Bukola, she is now engaged with her male counterparts in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for supremacy in the opposition party. Despite her political acumen, her name is becoming a rallying point for all those who claim that it is time to see the back of the Sarakis in Kwara State. It was no surprise that when she was slated for ministerial appointment that almost all senior PDP ...

Alhaji Sanusi Dare, who is popularly referred to as Tunde Bughana, is a senior cousin of the PDP stalwart, who has risen as a major force in Kwara PDP after the defection of Bukola Saraki to the APC. Describing the PDP members in the state as paperweight and hypocrite, Dare noted that all the PDP aspirants despite their gang- up pose no threat to the APC. “You don’t know them but only see them from afar. We see them more than you people and know that some of them cannot even control their homes and some of them will lose even right in front of their houses “PDP will not have ten percent vote in Ilorin. EXCLUSIVE: RUMBLE in Kwara APC as Saraki, Lai Mohammed Clash Openly over Congress Petition is not ‘genuine’- Kwara APC A major crack was yesterday experienced in the house of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the two major leaders of the party, Sen. Bukola Saraki and Alhaji Lai Mohammed, were reported to have publicly exchanged hot words within the premises of the APC National Secretariat, over the just concluded ward congress in parts of Kwara State. Whereas Sen. Saraki is the self-acclaimed leader of the APC in the state, having defected recently from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC with huge party machinery, Alhaji Mohammed is the party’s National Publicity Secretary, who facilitated the smooth transition of the former to the APC. Until recently, the two leaders had enjoyed conviviality in their political relationship. No thanks to the recently concluded wards and local government congresses of the party, which have now pitched the two leaders against each other, with their sup ...

The posters were sponsored by a group which called itself the “Foundation for Empowerment and Uniting Nigerian Youths.” The brain behind the group in Ilorin was not known at press time. Some of the posters were pasted on the walls along New Yidi Road by the Irewolede Housing Estate; one of Saraki’s pet projects as the governor. Lawyer Kunle Sulyman, first Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in Kwara State opens up on so many issues. His thoughts were brought as we got it. Hot. Sizzling and frank. Enjoy reading the exclusive interview he granted this newspaper. Tell us about your party in Kwara. Back in Kwara, I was fortunate to have been the first chairman of the party at formation in 1999. Today, people are heavily disenchanted about the way that Bukola Saraki is managing the party. His style of leadership is not welcome. This includes the governor if we can call him a governor. I recently read a magazine where he was described as Nigeria’s most powerless governor. It tells you the type of things we are going through in Kwara. It is a shame. The people are tired of all these. The truth and summary is that Kwarans are not happy w ...
KWARA PDP: SURRENDER SOVEREIGNTY TO THE PEOPLE The leadership crisis tearing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kwara State chapter is a reflection of the leadership by fiat that characterized both government and party administrations in the state in the last few years. Kwara Change Initiative, a pressure group in a statement in Ilorin on Tuesday and signed by its organizing secretary, Adewale Adefila blamed the leadership tussle on the poor leadership qualities of the former governor, Dr. Bukola Saraki who seeks to lead despite his inadequacies. “The former governor refused to come to terms with the fact that he rode so long on the back of his late father, Dr. Olusola Saraki who during his days helped the young man to fix nearly everything. He must again not be lost to the pseudo victory; they had in the last 2011 elections. We wish to refresh our memories that the father in his great political sagacity gauged all the aggrieved who would have worked against his son in the defunct ACPN. Who does not wa ...

AS WE BASK IN THE EUPHORIA OF CHILDREN'S DAY CELEBRATION WE MUST NOT FORGET THE ADULTS, PLEASE ENJOY YOUR READING. LG ELECTION: HOW PREPARED ARE YOU? The body language of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and government suggest that local government election will hold any time from now. The selection of vote canvassers is one, while screening and eventual appointment of new members of KWASIEC corroborate it. Anyway, the opposition has not been too keen on the local council polls. Why? Some alleged that in any part of the country, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a party outside the government to win an election conducted under the watch of a state governor. Kwara State Government may not be alone. From North to South, the case is not different but our own Bukola Saraki seeks to dignify the monster in style. The composition of the vote canvassers is set to achieve this. Grapevine had it that the former governor reminded his followers at a meeting recently that he would ...
