SUPREMES The quintessential girl group, the Supremes emerged as Motown’s leading female artists after a disappointing start. Best known as a trio, the Supremes started out as the Primettes. Original members included Florence Ballard, Diane (Diana) Ross and Mary Wilson. Ballard left the group in 1968 and was replaced by Cindy Birdsong. Success was slow to come to the Supremes, whose records produced poor results for several years after they signed with Motown. Despite their reputation around Hitsville as the “no-hit” Supremes, Berry Gordy continued to have faith in their appeal and abilities. The Supremes got on track to fame in 1963 with the release of “When the Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes,” produced by Motown’s powerhouse trio, Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Eddie Holland. Holland-Dozier-Holland went on to write and produce a string of hits for the group, starting with “Where Did Our Love Go” in 1964. Mega-hits and international stardom followed over the next three years: ...

Holland Dozier Holland... Holland-Dozier-Holland was Motown Record's premier songwriting production team responsible for the "Motown Sound."Utilizing an excellent team of session musicians (The Funk Brothers) and sophisticated studio equipment, Holland-Dozier-Holland wrote and produced over twenty five top ten hits that were popular with black and white audiences and put Motown's brand of soul music into the fore front of American popular music in the 60s. Lamont Dozier began singing as a child in his grandmother's choir. By the age of ten he had written his first song. He first recorded with the Romeos at fifteen. In 1958 he met Berry Gordy, Jr, and recorded as Lamont Anthony for Gordy's Anna Records label in 1961. Eddie Holland met Gordy in 1958 and dropped out of college to work for him. Holland had one of Motown's first hits "Jamie" in 1962. Brian Holland collaborated on two early hits for The Marvelettes, "Please Mr. Postman" and "Playboy." Tomahawks Flashback--- 2007 Boys Soccer Worth the wait Telegraph, The (Nashua, NH) - Tuesday, November 6, 2007 Author: GARY FITZ Telegraph Staff NASHUA - As a sophomore Chris Ywoskus was the leading goal-scorer on the Merrimack High School boys soccer team. This fall, he began most games on the bench. After scoring a team-leading 11 goals last year, Ywoskus had just one entering the Class L tournament. Monday night at Stellos Stadium, Ywoskus not only scored the biggest goal of his life but the biggest goal in the history of Merrimack soccer . While some were stunned when teammate Brad Hilton failed to convert a penalty kick and others looked on in disbelief when Hilton collected the rebound and was robbed again by Londonderry goalkeeper Andrew Pescia with 2:50 left in the first half, Ywoskus pounced on the second rebound. He quickly and deftly slotted it past the fallen keeper from point-blank range for the only goal of a 1-0 final that gave Merrimack its first ever boys soccer championship. It was a gam ...

So my bad luck brian day is over, so I can finally explain it. First, I got on the plane to Amsterdam without a hitch. It was an okay flight, but I didn't manage to sleep much. Maybe 2 hours, despite 4 hours of trying unsuccessfully. After I got off the plane, I went to passport control, not expecting there to be a problem. After a minute of talking with the passport officer, one of the Dutch police pulled me into a little room and started drilling me about why I was in Holland, how long I was staying etc. I told him I was studying French, and so he switched to French in the middle, to test if I could actually speak it. Eventually, he had me log in on his computer and get to my email account to show my tickets out of the country. Gmail detected that I was logging in from a new IP, and thus had me put in my security code. However, the security page was all in Dutch, making it much more difficult. Eventually the guard was satisfied and let me go, and I proceeded to try and get my bag. However, they lost it. ...

Yes - There Are Rabbis In Montana * By ERIC A. STERN HELENA, Mont. — In Montana, a rabbi is an unusual sight. So when a Hasidic one walked into the State Capitol last December, with his long beard, black hat and long black coat, a police officer grabbed his bomb- sniffing German shepherd and went to ask the exotic visitor a few questions. Though there are few Jews in Montana today, there once were many. In the late 19th century, there were thriving Jewish populations in the mining towns, where Jews emigrated to work as butchers, clothiers, jewelers, tailors and the like. The city of Butte had kosher markets, a Jewish mayor, a B’nai B’rith lodge and three synagogues. Helena, the capital city, had Temple Emanu-El, built in 1891 with a seating capacity of 500. The elegant original facade still stands, but the building was sold and converted to offices in the 1930s, when the congregation had dwindled to almost nothing, the Jewish population having mostly assimilated or moved on to bigger cities. There i ...

OK, one last thing before I hit the sack. Something I know I really shouldn't post but it's preying on my mind so I beg forgiveness. I'm always driving back and forth between Newmarket and the Mount. If I happen to take that particular route, Wild Wing in Holland Landing is a convenient spot to stop for a libation. It's much like any other Wild Wing except there are no hot young ladies behind the bar. Nevertheless, my server today was most intriguing, body of a 19 year-old but face 45-50ish. When she was walking away from me, though, with that sweet little *** swaying and twitching, I sure wasn't thinking about her face! (as I said, please forgive me, I know I'm a dirty old man but I can't help it and nor would I want to.)
I would like to offer my congratulations to all of the candidates who stepped up for their junior Provisional Black Belts on Saturday. Congratulations also to Camille Potoudid, Nicholas Wylie, Owen McIntyre, Teresa Hayes and Kristian Bradley, for achieving their Adult Provisional Black Belts. Congratulations also to Brad Davies, Lesley Talbut, Graeme Walkerden, Collin Stebbins, Pat Wong and Zac Clare for achieving their First degree Black Belts. And last but not least, I am so proud of the incredible grading performances of Sensei Abi Lowe and Sensei Catherine Ivanfy. Both were successful in gaining Sandan, or Third degree Black belt and also their Shidoin, or Senior Teacher's licence from Ryusei Chitokai International. They were a wonderful testimonial to the strength and grace of women in martial arts, and their leadership, and the leadership ...

When last Turloughmore met Gort 10/05/2010 Gort 1-19 Turloughmore 2-13. Three late points from Gort condemned Turloughmore to their second defeat of the Senior Championship in Loughrea on Sunday. When Brian Murphy equalised the game at 2-13 to 1-16 on 59 minutes, Turloughmore were very much in contention, but a strong finish by Gort saw the 2009 County semi-finalists strike for victory. Gort led by 1-8 to 1-7 at half time, despite Turloughmore having wind advantage. Indeed, the south Galway men got off to a dream start with a Richie Cummins goal within 30 seconds, but when Cathal Moore’s 14th minute delivery was deflected to the net off a Gort stick, it edged Turloughmore, who lined out without the injured Fergal Moore, 1-3 to 1-2 ahead. Brian Murphy and Gary Burke shot fine points in that opening period before on 28 minutes, Mathew Keating did very well to stop an Aidan Harte goal bound shot on the line and Turloughmore went up field with Cathal Moore shooting a fine point. Turloughmore went in 1 behin ...

JACKETT DEAL ALMOST DONE?: Wolves have offered the job of team boss to the first candidate interviewed for the post, Kenny Jackett. The club are waiting to tie up the deal for the 51-year-old but expect to complete the formalities of what will be a landmark appointment early next week. Jackett, the former Swansea and Millwall manager, will be the club’s first head coach following the decision to re-shape the football management structure at Molineux. He will be charged with the dual task of beginning the recovery from the double-season disaster of successive relegations and leading a re-vamp of the club’s coaching and playing style. Although the silence from Molineux was deafening after a day of mounting speculation about the vacancy yesterday, the delay in confirming Jackett’s appointment is thought to be due to a number of factors.

Wake up Britain. I am an x pat living in Cyprus. If you dont work here you get nothing. If you have worked here and you become unemployed you get a small benefit for the first 3 month then you get nothing. If you can't support yourself you starve. No NHS. If you need medical treatment it costs you a fortune. If you have an international medical card then you pay local rates. This is an EU country so what is the british government playing at. Protect your country, Protect your NHS, and dont let this bunch of capitalists cripple your society.
Ugh I wanna go for a drive but im soo tireddd
I will always remember this past week as one of the craziest weeks of my life! I've been in Wyoming with the whole family, officiating a wedding for my sister-in-law Gloria Destiny Karban & her husband Josh. It was a beautiful occasion indeed! So much joy and it was great to celebrate the beginning of something as wonderful as marriage. And then I received word that one of my closest cousins Rebecca Holland had lost her husband Mike to a motorcycle accident. This news devastated our entire family. I've known Becca my whole life and had known Mike for close to 16 years. I went out to Alabama and played a song at the grave-site and gave a brief word of encouragement to Becca & mike's parents and the hundreds that came to Mike's "homecoming". As somber as an occasion it was, it was an honor to be with so many family members from all over. And at the end of all of this, I got word that my cousin Brian Denton & Jennifer Denton had their baby girl today!!! Me and Dad went to the hospital and visited with them. ...

Any news about the Holland Patent HS reunion ( I won't say what year)? Gonna try to make it if possible, I vote the weekend before 4th of July. A lot of people have a few extra days off around that time that could help with travel. Remember some have to drive 15+ hours to get back to ol'HP. Maybe stay a few days and meet up with with some old other friends? Waddayasay!
Here's the low down on my trip to Dr Patel today. Basically, the MRI was inconclusive which = scope. However in order to get it done quickly I have to go back Monday to meet Dr Romine who will be doing a preop visit. Dr Patel thinks that cartilage under my kneecap is frayed. He said he also expects the fat pad under there to be removed also. Wonder if they would remove about 75 lbs elsewhere?? He said for complete healing from surgery I was looking at 12, yes 12 weeks! Hopefully back on the front of a boat in 6 :( Oh well, forward movement right??
Okay, I made a phone call to New Holland Auction and hoped for a wild card, last time I tried to get info on a previous horse owner that I bought, I was denied, I guess it just matters who answers the phone. Well, I got a phone number of the person who hauled the Medicine Hat Mare and the others to the auction, and spoke with him. He says he will try and get me info from the man who hired him to haul the horses there. He is in the middle of bailing hay and will attempt to see what he can find out for me. He says that he did know that the Stallion was a big registered Sorrel Quarter Horse, I hope he will follow thru and get back to me, I am on a mission to find out their identity.stay tuned

Let's not oversell the financial benefits of having women on corporate boards By Christina Hoff Sommers Morgan Stanley recently launched an investment fund that aims to combine high returns and gender justice. Its "parity portfolio," requiring a minimum $250,000 placement, is limited to companies with three or more women on their boards of directors. According to fund publicity, "Research... shows that companies with significant female representation on boards and in senior leadership have stronger financials (return to shareholders, return on assets, return on equity, profit margins) than those that lack gender diversity in leadership." Is the parity portfolio a welcome innovation? Not entirely. While it is fine for Morgan Stanley to create a fund that appeals to socially conscious customers, it is misleading to sell it in terms of investment performance. Women's groups have long complained about the paucity of women in the top ranks of corporate America. In making their case, they typically pointed to t ...

Today in Music History for Feb. 15: In 1918, country singer Hank Locklin was born in McLellan, Fla. His smooth tenor voice on hits like ``Send Me the Pillow You Dream On'' and ``Please Help Me I'm Falling'' marked a career that spanned half a century. He helped usher in ``the Nashville Sound'' that gave country music a more lush feel. He performed on the Grand Ole Opry for 47 years. He died on March 8, 2009. In 1941, Brian Holland, of the Motown songwriting team of Holland, Dozier and Holland, was born in Detroit. The trio, including Brian's brother, Eddie, and Lamont Dozier, were responsible for 28 top-10 hits between 1963 and 1966. Among their successes -- ``Heat Wave'' for ``Martha and the Vandellas,'' ``Stop! In the Name of Love'' for ``The Supremes'' and ``Reach Out, I'll Be There'' for ``The Four Tops.'' The three songwriters formed their own record label, Invictus-Hot Wax, in 1968. ``Want Ads'' by ``Honey Cone'' became the company's first No. 1 hit, in 1971. In 1941, jazz great Duke Ellington recor ...

Mayer Hawthorne grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, just outside of Detroit, and vividly remembers, as a child, driving with his father and tuning the car radio in to the rich soul and jazz history the region provided. “Most of the best music ever made came out of Detroit,” claims the singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, who counts Isaac Hayes, Leroy Hutson, Mike Terry, and Barry White among his influences, but draws the most inspiration from the music of Smokey Robinson, Curtis Mayfield, and the legendary songwriting and production trio of Lamont Dozier, Brian Holland, and Eddie Holland.

Other attendees included John and Diana Akers, Donna (Irwin) and Clayton Plummer, Roger and Debbie Powell, Linda (Raymond) and David Julliason, David Cortelyou, Brian Holland, Bev (Brooks) and Leon Serven, Judy Walters, Kathy (Mason) Hiel, Greg and Linda (Leonard) Fayhee, Diane Wolfe, Tracy Lomax, and doubtless others my feeble brain can’t recall. Honorary guests included Barb Knott, Judy’s mom (Class of ‘52) from her reunion next door, Jim Miller (Class of '65), chairman of this year’s Fall Festival, and Denny Buchen (Class of ’73 or ’74). I also got to spend some time reminiscing with Bodie (Mrs. Bodenhamer) that afternoon…so, all in all, a great weekend. I know I had a blast. The good news is, we ...

Since a good book says to "Give honor to whom honor is due", I'm doing it while I have a chance! The following drummers changed my life and made me realize that I wanted to play forever when I was a kid: Tim Froncek, Michael White, Arnold Wayne Kinsey, Kevin Cornelius, Larry Hines, Craig Hunnicutt, Maurice Sanders, Jimmy Abney, Brian Burrel & Johnny Jones, all from West Michigan. Then, Mike Williams Joel Smith, Joey Bruce, Kenny Phelps, Carl Bowman, Brian Holland, & Bill Maxwell made me go,"Really!? But, I can!" Some of those guys may not ever make 'Modern Drummer', but they are ICONS in my book! (: Kudos Gents! I only Pray that I inspire some younger cats that way. Remember, making it is HYPE! Love...DWats
Rita wright came to Motown and worked as a secretary in 1968. Brian Holland discovered her and wrote with Ashford and Simpson a song that was intended for Diana Ross in which she did actually record with The Supremes that same year which was not released that year and Diana indeed later again in 1971 recorded a solo version on her second lp ''surrender''. THE SONG '' I can't give back the love I feel for you'' was Rita's first single and was issued on The Gordy label as a minor hit. Rita Wright sounded so alike to Diana that many mistook her as Ms. Ross's sister. Part of Wright's job as secretary at Motown in her beginning before She became SYREETA was to sing demos of songwriters songs vocals for songs that they wrote for Diana that ended up being rejected by her. When Ms Ross was being staged and groomed by Berry to leave the Supremes. She was highly considered as a canidate for that postion only to have Berry be swept away By Jean Terrell to be the final choice. She developed a relationship as a co-wr ...
