Keyboards - Voice of Reason Spencer has been playing piano since he was 7 years old, studying with Gates Wray and Nick Marano. His very first rock band was in 6th grade playing a Farfisa Duo Compact organ. Adding the piano and some guitar, he played in many diverse bands for years in New Jersey in the 1970s. Some of these bands included jazz drummer Jay Dittamo, avant-garde percussion legend David van Tieghem. The rock bands he was in covered everything from 50’s doo *** 60’s psychedelic, Southern rock, blues, funk, roots rock, soul, to progressive. His keyboard heroes list includes, but is not remotely limited to, Brian Auger, Jimmy Smith, Dave Brubeck, John Medeski, Al Kooper, Jimmy Greenspoon, Bruce Hornsby, Roy Bittan and Brian Eno. Always the voice of reason, Groove Therapy would be lost without Spencer’s ability to keep them in line!

John Slaughter: Electric guitar We have sadly to announce that John Slaughter passed away on August 15, 2010. We all have lost a very good friend and a fantastic musician. Rip, dear John - we all will miss you very much - your music lives on! A special page as well as a message board has been installed for obituaries. Chris Barber’s bands have almost always had a guitarist (as opposed to a banjoist) since Alexis Korner was a band member in 1949. In the 1950s American stars such as Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Muddy Waters, and Brownie McGhee (of Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee) all played guitar with the band, as did Lonnie Donegan, Johnny Duncan, and *** Bishop in the Skiffle Group. By the early 1960s, however, Chris realised he needed a permanent blues guitarist, and set about finding one. At about the same time a young musician was starting out on his hoped-for career, first playing five-string banjo, as his brother wanted a banjo player in his own traditional jazz band. A year later John Slaughter switche ...

Gonzo Multimedia is releasing three rare albums by the late sax legend Gary Windo, one of which features Robert Wyatt and Pink Floyd's Nick Mason. Windo was a highly original musician with an instantly recognizable style, and was involved in the Seventies with many icons of the British jazz and rock genres, including the Canterbury scene, but who sadly passed away in 1992. Windo was born in Brighton, England in 1941, into a musical family, and learned to play drums at 6, guitar at 12, and saxophone at 17. After sailing the world in the Merchant Navy, he settled in New York in 1962. A long period of apprenticeship, on and off-stage, followed during the Sixties, until he moved back to England in 1969. In March 1970, he took part in Graham Bond's all-star Sun Festival, with Jack Bruce, Mitch Mitchell, and Brian Auger. In 1971, he and Robert Wyatt formed Symbiosis, a prog-rock jamming band. By 1973, Windo was playing pub gigs with Ray Russell's heavy-rock trio The Running Man, and working with Robert Wyatt on ...

Brief introduction which doesn't really do them justice. Brian Auger and the Trinity were a British group led by the keyboardist Brian Auger. They had a hit in the UK Singles Chart (a duet with Julie Driscoll) with the Bob Dylan's "This Wheel's On Fire" in 1968. Their joint album, Open, billed as 'Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger and the Trinity', also reached in the UK Albums Chart the same year.

Jimi Hendrix MEMORABILIA GOES ON DISPLAY IN VANCOUVER The connection between Jimi Hendrix and Vancouver extends more than 100 years. Beginning with the arrival of his paternal grandparents to the city in 1912; the birth of his father James “Al” Hendrix in 1919; to the many times that Jimi Hendrix himself visited the city from the 1940s-1960s to visit family and friends. As a young musician Jimi returned to Vancouver in the early 1960s as a member of Thomas & The Tomcats and even performed briefly with local act Bobby Taylor & The Vancouver before striking out on his own. Perhaps his most memorable stop in Vancouver was his headlining engagement with The Jimi Hendrix Experience in September 1968 when the trio performed at the Pacific Coliseum. Without a doubt, Jimi has always been closely associated with the region. This weekend, Jimi Hendrix made a return visit to Vancouver by way of the grand opening of the new Hard Rock Casino Vancouver and their collection of vintage Jimi Hendrix memorabilia and .. ...

In a career spanning 25 years he's also worked with indie heroes The Wolfhounds, multi-platinum artists Paul Weller and Oasis while his collaborations include such luminaries as Brian Auger, Bill Fay, Dr John and more. He's also found the time to release four critically acclaimed solo albums: Villager, You Are The Healer, The Common Good and Waking Up The Moths. Matt will be playing a variety of selections from his solo canon at Mama Liz's Voodoo Lounge in Stamford on Friday 7 March, 8.30pm. It'll be just Matt and his big Guild jumbo acoustic (plus occasional cello backing), plus a host of new material which I can personally vouch is as good as and, incredibly, even better than any he's ever done before. Another rarity! Here is the 'Cambridge Midsummer Pop Festival' programme produced by the Arts Lab. Held on Midsummer Common 9th to 11th June 1969 from 2pm until dusk each day. The front cover is Brian Auger, (of Brian Auger & The Trinity fame) who later teamed up with Julie Driscoll for the seminal 60s psychedelic tune, 'This Wheel's on Fire'. You may see this on a TOTP2 repeat in black and white! So who remembers some of the bands who played this festival, and indeed if any of the big names actually turned up? (King Crimson!, Dave Bowie, Family, Roy Harper, Strawbs) 'Tuesday's Children were very flower power, and Mr Lucifer as the name suggests, exactly the opposite! I believe 'Committee' later renamed themselves 'Soul Committee' and enjoyed a modicum of success, but happy to be corrected if wrong! That's all folks!

I always loved Faure's 'Pavane', a fabulous melody. One of the best versions is by Brian Auger. Terrific. Bet you didn't think I'd say that.

I've been trying to get a Monopoly Game started all afternoon, but so far no luck. I have succeeded in listening several discs of Brian Auger and Michael Nesmith respectively, with some Ian Matthews on deck. In the meantime I think I will sample my first Redd's Apple Ale, watch some Pawn Stars on Close Captioning and listen to Ian Matthews, while still holding hope that a Monopoly Game make break out. Later I may think about catching a Grayson Capps show that I was invited to.
I never watch SNL anymore, but this is pretty great. I hope that Doug Haslett, Steve Dice, Brian Auger, Stephenie Marie, Debra Seidel Waltz, Stephanie Leonhard Castleman, Samuel Hinkle, and especially Ewa Fricks, Maggie Huntington Bodle, and Kelly Daniele Lynch just caught that Barnes & Noble sketch. Nailed it. I'm sure I forgot to mention some folks. My bad brah.

I'm calling BS on this unless the meteorite changed course in midair and then came in straight down at a 90 degree angle. But, hey, I am no physicist.

I hate how the movie exaggerated this scene. He didn't jump in front of the camera and go "HIIGHER". He just sang it casually .. come to think of it, they exaggerated a lot of things and made Jim Morrison look like a mental patient!
Just played: whenever you're ready - brian auger's Oblivion Express - closer to it(fuel)

During a break last night I got our Soundman to spin up, "What Is Hip?". We get ready to start the next set and a kid, maybe mid 20s comes over and says "the most dope bass line ever!" Blew me away he knew the song, or had ever heard Tower of Power! Cool
I'm going to listen to Brian Auger for the rest of the evening
Been getting into this double LP set that I bought back in 1969 and was very formative in my youth when it came to the Hammond Organ. Al Kooper is the organist, Mike Bloomfield on effects-free guitar, John Kahn on bass and Skip Prokop of Lighthouse on the drums. Live at Fillmore West in 1968. Everything was new and wonderful and the B-3 was the greatest thing I'd ever heard. Soon was listening to Steve Winwood, Lee Michaels, Brian Auger, had already heard Felix Cavaliere ... Here they turn a Paul Simon pop hit into a white soul ballad and the playing is simply inspired and brilliant. Take a little trip back with Father Tiresias, I mean, Old Mikey, and let this wonderful stuff speak to your soul. Oh yeah, there's some blues right after it too!!
I don't know how many people got this release by Paul Clipper but tonight I will be on his internet radio program talking about the Blues and the early English bands from the 1950s and 60s. It gives me a chance to look back on my music years and many of the bands I worked with. Bands like Brian Auger, The Yardbirds, Spencer Davis, Georgie Fame and great blues singers like Long John Baldry. Should be a lot of fun Be there or be square! 7:30 PM Pacific time. I promise some music you have probably never heard before.
also born January 4 ... 1942 - John McLaughlin, who formed the Mahavishnu Orchestra and has also worked with Carlos Santana, Stanley Clark and Jaco Pastorius. Prior to the Mahavishnu Orchestra, in the 1960s, he played with Alexis Korner, Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames, the Graham Bond Organisation and Brian Auger. In 1969 he moved to New York to join Tony Williams' Lifetime. On March 25th of that year he jammed with Jimi Hendrix at the Record Plant, recalling ‘we played from 2 until 8 in the morning. I was playing an acoustic guitar with a pick-up, a flat-top guitar, and Jimi was playing an electric. I thought it was a wonderful experience!’ In 2010, Jeff Beck called McLaughlin ‘the best guitarist alive’.

SECOND PERIOD SUMMARY: Bo Horvat able to capitalize on the powerplay and give the Knights a 2 goal cushion. Minutes later the Knight's take a couple costly penalties and Matt Finn of the Storm is able to cut the lead to 1. Bailie looked sharp in the period making more than a few beauty saves and keeping the lead alive heading into the 3rd. 20 minutes to go. Knights up 2-1!!!

In 1979 I was doing a show with Brian Auger and Van Morrison somewhere in the bay area. I was working for Brian and we took the Suburban to the gig that night,. Van's guy, Torp, had stopped by Brians earlier to pick up Brians gear. Brian drove and I rode with him. That was the night that learned that Van is a great rhythm guitarist. Seeing as I was simply being a roadie for the night I slipped into the dressing room during the set. Probably to do a line or two. While I was sitting in there someone walked in. It was Bill Graham. We talked for a bit and then I felt a need to get back out to the stage. Yes.. I am quite new to this whole music thing.

As I'm grooving on YouTube listening to tracks from Brian Auger's Oblvion Express album "Second Wind" (If you don't know it you're not living) I run across this cut from Billy Cobham featuring Brian on organ. I assumed this was some '70s jazz fusion jam that I had missed.Wrong! This was released in 2010. Billy Cobham Drum n Voice, Vol 3. Awesome!
Auger's a vastly underrated player, wonderful exponent of the B3 and here he's joined by his family with daughter Savannah on vocals..excellent!

Just saw Brian Auger playing a Neo Ventilator!! Wow! It reminded in 1969 building a "Leslie" with a jigsaw! (Rotating speakers for organs) and building a Vox Jaguar organ by Heathkit with a soldering iron! I guess I really wanted to play an organ!
“Inner City Blues” by Brian Auger's Oblivion Express is my new jam. ♫
Brian Auger is the guy playing the Hammond Organ, which is what our local hero, Greg Tivis, plays on occasion. It has a very distinctive sound to it, and was used by a lot of bands back in the good old days. Just kinda makes my feet want to move.or dance. Any takers???
