In the wake of the Pitchers of Beer scandal that came to symbolize everything wrong with the team in Terry Francona’s final days — before carrying over to Bobby Valentine’s entire tenure — Lester and Buchholz stood up and faced the music. While Josh Beckett golfed and gained weight and whined, “my off day is my off day,” to the point that the Red Sox finally shipped him out of town, Lester and Buchholz made it clear that not only were they sorry, they’d be part of the solution. “It's something I'm not proud of,” Lester said before last season. “You learn from your mistakes and I'm looking forward to being a leader.” Buchholz accepted blame, too. “We’re Major League Baseball players playing for the Boston Red Sox,” he said. “You're going to have to fess up to y ...

This week in baseball 3/11/1974 - With Hank Aaron needing only one home run to tie Babe Ruth's career record (714), Atlanta plans to save the event for a home audience by benching him on the road. Commissioner Bowie Kuhn plans otherwise, ordering the Braves to start Aaron in at least two of the team's three season-opening games in Cincinnati. 3/12/ 1903 - The New York Highlanders (later the Yankees) are officially approved as members of the American League. 3/13/1943 - The major leagues approve an official ball, the insides of which will be made from reclaimed cork and balata, materials not needed in the war effort. Officials insist the ball will have the resiliency of the 1939 ball, but the players will express with dismay that they cannot drive the new ball and point out the dearth of runs and homers in 1942 even with the old ball. 3/14/1954 - Hank Aaron homers in his first start with the Braves in an exhibition game against the Boston Red Sox. SOX PROSPECT WESTMORELAND RETIRES AT 22 By Jerry SparMar 6th, at 2:19pm Red Sox prospect Ryan Westmoreland, who has had two brain surgeries in the last three years, on Wednesday announced that he was retiring from baseball. Westmoreland had surgery in March 2010 to remove a cavernous malformation from his brain stem. He showed dramatic progress before needing a second surgery last July. “With a clear mind and heart, as well as the unwavering support and friendship of my family, friends, agent, doctors, therapists and the Boston Red Sox, I have decided to voluntarily retire as a professional baseball player,” Westmoreland wrote in an e-mail sent to members of the media. “Although it is a very difficult decision for me, it has become clear that the neurological damage caused by the most recent cavernous malformation and surgery leaves me with physical challenges that make it impossible to play the game at such a high level.” Westmoreland, 22, was selected in the fifth round of the 2008 draft out of ...
Who knew former American League MVP and Boston Red Sox, Mo Vaughn, lived in the CLE area.. Well did.
3 Days to Phoenix... I wrestled with this one. If there's any number which a single player deserves to own, it's probably number 3. But due to some personal reasons, I'm going to add a second one. Let's start with the obvious... Number 3 was worn by the single greatest baseball player of all time (and if you feel some strange temptation to argue with me here... don't): George Herman "Babe" Ruth. The Sultan of Swat played 22 seasons in the big leagues for three different teams. Most folks know he began his career with the Boston Red Sox before being traded to the Yankees and bestowing the most legendary baseball curse ever: The Curse of the Bambino, which lasted til the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004. What I had forgotten - and would guess most folks wouldn't know - is that he finished his career with a single season playing for the Boston Braves in 1935. Where do you start with Ruth's numbers? Only a 2-time All-Star (the game didn't really exist in it's current form prior to 1933), he was a 7- ...

Dear Yankee Fans, You may have heard that our professional baseball team, the New York Yankees, engaged in an important legal action to protect its claim on the term "Evil Empire." A shameless group of entrepreneurs had been attempting to capitalize on the words—they wanted to make "Baseball's Evil Empire" knickknacks and goodness knows what else. T-shirts? Napkin holders? Cigarette lighters? Camaro air fresheners? We were outraged. Good, old-fashioned Evil is as much a Yankee tradition as Old-Timers' Day and those empty "Bored Executive VIP" seats behind home plate. So we did what comes naturally to us. We sued their pants off. Thankfully, a wise panel of judges in Washington, D.C. agreed with our claim, ruling that we, the Yankees, are indeed evil—and entitled to the term "Evil Empire." Never mind that the term was actually coined by the dopes who run the Boston Red Sox. Like the bulk of A.J. Burnett's remaining contract, those words belong to us. "There is only one Evil Empire in baseball and it is ...

But Tribe fans shouldn't despair because we are loaded with options for the final four spots in the bullpen. Matt Albers, Bryan Shaw, Rich Hill, Scott Barnes, Nick Hagadone, Cody Allen, Matt Capps, and David Huff are all valuable options to pitch in the bullpen this year. Let's take a quick look at each bullpen arm: Matt Albers and Bryan Shaw were both acquired in the Shin-Soo Choo trade this offseason. Both are right-handers who are frontrunners to take two of the four spots. Albers spilt time with the Boston Red Sox and D-Backs last year, pitching in over 60 games with a very good 2.39 ERA. He is almost certain to make the team considering he has no options left. Bryan Shaw pitched with the D-Backs last year. Although his numbers weren't outstanding, they were good nevertheless. He went 1-6 with a 3.59 ERA in almost 60 innings of work. He's much younger than Albe . ...

RACINE — What happens when three Boston Red Sox fans throw back a few beers and start talking about whether they’d rather be with Angelina Jolie or Helen Hunt?
This Date In Baseball History, March 2, 1927 Babe Ruth becomes the highest paid player in major league history when the Yankees announce the Bambino will earn $70,000 per season for the next three years. The historic deal is struck when the 'Sultan of Swat', who had asked for $100,000, meets Colonel Jacob Ruppert, the club's owner at the Ruppert Brewery in the Yorkville section of Manhattan. In 1915, a pair of wealthy businessmen named Captain Tillinghast Huston and Colonel Jacob Ruppert purchased the New York Yankees (excerpt), a team born of humble beginnings just after the turn of the century, and the new ownership vowed to build a winner. Opening their pocketbooks, they steadily built the club through purchases and trades, brought in manager Miller Huggins in ’18 (excerpt), much to the chagrin of Huston, and nabbed the game’s brightest young slugger in ‘20 for a record price from the Boston Red Sox, Babe Ruth (excerpt). He went on to revolutionize the game with his prodigious home runs in New Yo ...

I'd like to finally tell everyone that as of today, 2/28/2013, I have renounced myself as a Boston Red Sox fan. I will now be a fan of the team represented by the city I've chosen to live and grow my life in. I am now a New York Yankees fan.

I was asked if I watched the Emmy Awards and my answer was “I did not watch and never do watch the Oscars as most of the people in that parade sadly are dead men walking. I would not be surprised if they awarded Lucifer, Prince of Darkness an Oscar!” As a boy growing up, America was blessed with many actors who were decent human with values that served as role models for youth and were not just symbols of ‘sex, excess and glitter.’ Clayton Moore (The Lone Ranger,) Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, Ronald Reagan, Roy Rogers, Dale Evans were patriots first and actors second along with many wonderful producers such as Frank Capra and Cecil B. DeMille. Many of the actors and baseball players like Ted Williams of the Boston Red Sox left their lucrative jobs to serve in the Armed Forces in WWII and defend our country! Now Hollywood is mostly a vast wasteland of talent where people’s first priority is to make a fortune reading scripted lines in movies while their lives and behavior contradict nearly every ...

This is a little late but as I write this I am watching a show on the OWN network as they investigate the sexual abuse of kids and they are exposing a huge cover-up by the Boston Red Sox.
Wow! I'm watching OWN and they are exposing the Boston Red Sox letting a trainer molest young black boys for 47 years and they knew it! Shameful
Bobby Valentine did a *** of a job managing the 2012 Boston Red Sox to a 69-93 record—at least according to him...

There's a lot of talk about Jackie Bradley Jr. this spring. Many speculate he could possibly make the big club as he's been impressing Farrell. I'd personally like to see him get another year in the minors to develop. Bradley is by all accounts the future center fielder of the Boston Red Sox. What do you guys think?

VARIETY announced today that Ben Affleck's next film project will be about Terry Fox. The film will focus on a heroic American running across America in order to cure cancer in Americans despite the fact that his entire body with the exception of his appendix has been replaced with prosthetics. Among other things, his heroism causes the New England Patriots to win three Super Bowls, the Boston Red Sox to win two World Series, the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins to win one title each, and the spontaneous remission of Stage IV cancer in several million children, puppies, and kittens. Casey Affleck will star.
Watching a documentary on Boston Red Sox fans and how the fans of a team help players get into the zone of excellence, and it cuts to my friend the Spaceman... and Bill promptly quotes George Clinton from the Funkadelic album "Standing On the Verge of Getting It On" about how good thoughts bear good fruit and bad thoughts rot your meat. Having been in the Coliseum at the end of the 2012 season and seeing how the rocking, seismic fan reaction took our Athletics to another level, I am inclined to agree... I think of the ALDS Game 4 when the A's were down 2 and Josh Donaldson led off the 9th with that double off the wall, causing the place to go so crazy it seemed certain that the Hayward fault would move from the power of the noise... you could see the Tigers KNEW they were toast in that game even before the inning continued and Seth Smith & Coco Crisp got the hits to win it.
On This Day In Baseball History: 1886 - Kansas City hires 30-year-old Dave Rowe to manage the Cowboys. 1896 - The National League adopts changes in the National Agreement. The minor leagues are divided into six classifications based on population, and new draft fees are instituted. The league also forbids players from deliberately soiling baseballs, and declares that "a ball cutting the corners of the home plate, and being requisite height, must be called a strike." It also empowers umpires to eject players. 1917 - Smoky Joe Wood, his arm dead at 26, is sold by the Boston Red Sox to Cleveland for $15,000. He will become an outfielder after one last, losing start on the mound, and will play five more years. 1926 - Southpaw Eddie Plank, winner of 327 games in 17 years, dies at 51 in his native Gettysburg, PA. 1943 - The Texas League announces it will suspend operations for the duration of the war. The St. Louis Cardinals, with 260 farm players in the service, will reduce farm clubs from 22 to 6. Only nine m ...

WWE Champion CM Punk and John Cena used every tool in their respective arsenals as they battled to determine which Superstar was truly “Best in the World” in front of the Cenation leader’s hometown Boston crowd. Ultimately, it was Cena’s impressive top rope German suplex that would conclude this brutal bout. Yet, it wasn’t Cena’s arm that was raised in victory at the end of the night. After Cena began celebrating what appeared to be his 11th WWE Championship victory, referee Chad Patton noted that Cena’s shoulders were also flat on the canvas as the Cenation leader had Punk in a pinned. As explained by ring announcer Justin Roberts, the match had officially ended in a draw … with CM Punk retaining the WWE Title. The smirk that Punk wore at the end of the night as he strode up the entrance ramp – WWE Title and Paul Heyman in tow – mirrored the one he wore at the beginning of the bout. On this day 60 years ago, Feb. 16, 1953, Marine Corps Capt. Ted Williams crash landed his F-9F Panther combat jet after carrying out an air strike just south of Pyongyang, North Korea. He walked away OK from the wheels-up landing. Yep, he was that Ted Williams, the legendary hitter of the Boston Red Sox.
Good morning all! "Indy" is out chasing a cat and I'm waiting for him to tire out, so here we go again. Maybe the funniest thing about MMA matches? The "Ring Card Girl" at a recent match paraded around the inside of the cage holding up a large number "2" to signify the start of "Round Two" walking around one of the fighters on the canvas that had just been "KO'd" . . . no "Round Two" for him. I wonder if she announced a "Round Three"?? Now, you have to be an RN or a licensed Doctor to give injections to people. I know about "pic" lines etc., so don't get your hair up! I'm referring to "injecting" . . . you know, with a needle directly into someone. It appears that a "Trainer" with the Boston Red Sox has been giving injections of a pain killer into pitchers for years! Well, MLB, after a "lengthy investigation" came out with a memo this last year saying that's a "no-no". That "Trainer" was not fired, banned from baseball, or criminally prosecuted. He was demoted from "Head Trainer" to "Assistant ...
Several discussions and several beers later. I would like the record to show that I don't hold anything against Kevin Youkilis for saying he's a Boston Red Sox at heart. We are a lucky team to have him. (That being said... Buck Foston)
TAMPA, Fla. -- Kevin Youkilis has two messages for New York Yankees fans: He'll always be a Boston Red Sox, and he'll never be Alex Rodriguez. A newly clean-shaven Youkilis made his first appearance in Yankees camp on Thursday, going straight from a red-eye flight from his home in San Jose, Calif., to the batting cage at George M. Steinbrenner Field. After batting practice, Youkilis made a sweep through the Yankees' clubhouse, where he greeted a few of his new teammates -- but not Joba Chamberlain -- and had a brief chat with manager Joe Girardi. But although Youkilis, who signed a one-year, $12 million contract in December, said he looks forward to "an enjoyable season" in New York, his heart still belongs to rival Boston, where he spent his first 8½ seasons in the majors. "I'll always be a Red Sock," Youkilis said. "To negate all the years I played for the Boston Red Sox, and all the tradition, you look at all the stuff I have piled up at my house and to say I'd just throw it out the window, it's not t ...

After 8 1/2 seasons as a member of the Boston Red Sox (and half a season as a White Sox), Youkilis arrived in Tampa early Thursday morning for Spring Training with the New York Yankees. His first course of action, however, might get pinstripe-ophiles a little peeved. Youkilis sat down in the airport...
This week with two dreadful performance against West Brom & Zenit with angry supporters calling Rodgers to be sacked, with Europe fading and were 9th in the league is not good enough, we are becoming a laughing stock at the moment moving backwards not forwards and not in the same level with Man Utd's Chelsea's & Man City's on and off the pitch, no leadership & experience of the team, Rodgers hasn't got a clue, Ian Ayre is on his own all the time trying do their dirty work for the owners & our supporters at Anfield are not singing or chanting anymore in the ground anymore it's all gone quiet like a baseball game & also no redevelopment of the stadium yet, where far behind from the top clubs nowdays & John W Henry who hasn't attended a game this season and doesn't care about the club all he focus on is Boston Red Sox, but Tom Werner has attended three games this season (Man City, Wigan & Norwich) but goes in and out of the club is not right, their plan is to buy a player aged 23 or under policy is not worki ...

So wait, there's a whole day dedicated to former New York Mets and Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine?
Red Sox staff gets fresh start Fort Myers, Fla. -- Boston Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester stood at his locker in the clubhouse of JetBlue Park at Fenway South when teammate David Ortiz walked over to give him a Big Papi hug. "You look great, bro," Ortiz told Lester. "You're not [messing around]." On the first official day of workouts for pitchers and catchers, Ortiz made the rounds and hugged it out with almost every pitcher on the Sox's staff. The best teams in baseball always have the best, and healthiest, pitching staffs and the Red Sox know that all too well. After all, Boston's been on both sides of the spectrum in that regard in recent years. The pitchers should arrive at camp in great shape, and the Red Sox's staff appears to have done all the proper offseason work in order to be prepared for Spring Training and the 2013 season. So it's no surprise that the Red Sox feel that, at least on paper, they have another potentially solid pitching staff. "When you look at the abilities here, and the talent that' ...

By Ellie Musgrave – Monday February 11 2013 VENICE— Shortly after resigning from the Popedom this morning, His Holiness Benedict XVI received a call from Ben Cherington, GM of the Boston Red Sox. The non-denominational American baseball team has faced more than its fair share of tough seasons, explained Cherington, and after hours of deliberation among the front office, they decided to “shoot for the moon” with their new management choice. “You’ve got to understand, someone big has to make up for our last manager,” says John Farrell, a former pitcher who was scheduled to manage the team for the upcoming 2013 season. Farrell is referring to Bobby Valentine who, after functionally driving the team into the ground by trading beloved stars like Kevin Youkilis and Josh Beckett and failing to understand the importance of player order, was noted as “the worst person ever” by ESPN. The public seems to agree—in a matter of milliseconds, Google will auto-complete the phrase “Bobby Val ...

John Henry defends Liverpool FC ownership amid baseball criticism Liverpool FC owner John Henry JOHN HENRY insists owning Liverpool is not having a detrimental effect on his ownership of MLS baseball side Boston Red Sox. But he admits there are concerns in the United States over Fenway Sports Group’s involvement at Anfield. But the things that have been said, repeated over and over again, are fairly ludicrous. “The last time I was in Liverpool I think was in May of last year. I'm actually getting excited about the Cleveland Indians this year. I've been a fan ever since i was 10...but its been real hard over the past few seasons. I'm not a fair weather fan...I just couldn't support the owners of a team that wouldn't support themselves. 2007...heading towards the playoffs...need that extra guy to make the push...yeah, lets bring back Kenny Lofton! Then proceed to lose 3 straight after being up 3-1 to the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS...Let the rebuilding begin! Fast forward to 2011 and 2012...Two years in a row...first place come July and then don't do anything to help the team further. I became apathetic. I laughed at their ineptitude...Well it looks as if "Dolan's Discounts" are no more. First the Tribe signs Terry Francona as Manager...a credible manager finally for the team. Then they bag Nick Swisher and then today they inked 2-time all-star and Gold Glover Michael Bourn...rumors flying around they may be going after FA starter Kyle Lohse... Bible Heroes Hall of Fame For the word of God is living and active. Hebrews 4:12 About twenty years ago, while I was working at Maryhaven, we took a trip. This trip was the best I had been on with the kids. We took them to Cooperstown, New York, the baseball hall of fame. I am a baseball fan or fanatic depending on whom you ask. I got to see plaques, statistics, memorabilia, and all kinds of great memories while there. My favorite was the Carl Yastrzemski exhibit. Man! Now he was a ball player. Carl played for the Boston Red Sox twenty-three seasons, which is a record for playing for the same team an entire career. What a trip to see all of this great history from these retired baseball greats, especially Yaz, number eight. This got me thinking while I reminisced, What if they had a Bible Hero Hall of Fame? Of course, Jesus would be the number-one attraction. What an exhibit there could be. We would see Moses parting the Red Sea, David defeating Goliath, Paul writing while in jail, Rahab hiding spies, Jos ...

Today My Predictions will be for the AL EAST!!! This division is probably the most open an any team could take this division this season! With many new faces on some teams its going to be a wild ride! 1. Tampa Bay Rays (91-71) 2. Toronto Blue Jays (89-73) 3. New York Yankees (85-77) 4. Baltimore Orioles (83-79) 5. Boston Red Sox (80-82) Breakout player: Will Myers Player With biggest Drop off: R.A Dickey MVP of the division: Jose Bautista Pitcher of the division: David Price Rays Notes: These Rays still after losing James Shields still have the ability to pull off a 90 win campaign no doubt. They added Kelly johnson and yunel escobar but i dont see them really helping any in the long run. Look for this team to have the best ERA in the American league. Blue Jays Notes: WE HAVE A NEW BEAST IN THE EAST! This team absolutely gave the finger to John Farrell after leaving for Boston and brought in ALL - STARS sure they gutted the farm but with everyone in their prime and them contending possibly for the next 3- ...

Curt Schilling Encouraged by Red Sox to Use PEDs Exposes MLB's Worst Nightmare BY ZACHARY D. RYMER (MLB LEAD WRITER) Major League Baseball didn't need another reason to be freaked out about performance-enhancing drugs, as the league has enough on its hands dealing with the Biogenesis mess. But Curt Schilling gave the league a reason to be very afraid. In an interview with Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio on Thursday, Schilling told an atom bomb of a tale about "former members" of the Boston Red Sox organization encouraging him to use PEDs in 2008 as a means to extend his career. “At the end of my career, in 2008 when I had gotten hurt, there was a conversation that I was involved in in which it was brought to my attention that this is a potential path I might want to pursue,” said the now-retired pitching great, via WEEI.com. Worse, Schilling said that this conversation didn't even take place behind closely guarded doors in hushed voices. It happened right in the middle of Boston's clubhouse with other pla ...
