Boot Hill & Dodge City
Boot Hill, or Boothill, is the name for any number of cemeteries, chiefly in the American West. During the 19th century it was a common name for the burial grounds of gunfighters, or those who died with their boots on (i.e., violently). Dodge City is a city in, and the county seat of, Ford County, Kansas, United States./5

I was looking for things to do in Kansas, and came across a site that listed things out by city. Evidently, in Dodge City you can visit the Gunfighter's Wax Museum -- located inside the Teacher's Hall of Fame. I'm not sure how to take that!

Hi from Eureka, MO, We had a lovely ride through Kansas this past week. We stopped in Dodge City and stayed at the Gunsmoke RV camp - on Miss Kitty lane!! We did a tour of 'Boot Hill' which was fun and educational - lots of information about the old West. We then ventured on to Hutchinson, KS to visit with my cousins, Kathie and Larry Moore. What a fun time we had!!! Lots of visiting, eating, and wandering out to view their amazing prairie. We left ashes in a thicket near the pairie and sent off some sky lanterns into the open sky. It was such a thrill for me to share this with two people I love so much. The next night Kathie took Collin and me to a Democratic Rally in Kansas!! Yes, there are Democrats in Kansas!! On Sunday we ventured down to Garnett, Kansas to visit with a couple of relatives of Bob's. Had a delightful lunch with Ed and Helen and then went out to the cemetery to the Keeney plot where Bob's Great-grandfather and Great-grandmother are buried. We left some ashes in the plot so t ...

So Dodge City Days is one the horizon - what a line-up of things to do! I'm going to shamelessly plug a thing or two.first of all, the current show at the Depot (Boeing-Boeing) is a hoot and if you haven't seen it, you should. Connie Penick as a French maid is show-stealing! The Bull Fry is Friday night at Boot Hill and is always lots of fun and great food. And of course the annual parade is Saturday - be sure to watch for the Cowboy Band. And through it all, the Long Branch Variety show is nightly. Never let it be said there's nothing to do in Dodge City - especially during DC Days!
We did Dodge City today, Joyce loved it, me too. Lots more at Boot Hill and Front Street since I was last here 20-25 yeaqrs ago. Pics up tonight.

Spent last night in Dodge City ... Not much left to see. Just a touristy Boot Hill. I am now in Wichita which has a nice regenerating (ongoing) Old Town. Heading north to Kansas City ... Didn't find the Talon in any of the Small Villes along the route so no decent coffee.

Have you seen the US vs. UK vehicles in town over the last two days? Well, here's what's happening: The Chef’s Race, a fun reality cooking show, is being aired on BBC America in the fall and they are filming in Dodge City tonight! The premise for the show is competing cooking teams, one from the UK and one from the USA. The chef teams are cooking their way across the US and have to use the money they can raise to get to their next destination. Team USA is currently cooking an English meal at Boot Hill Museum tonight and the public is invited! This meal will replace the regular country style dinner at Boot Hill. Cost is $20 with part of the proceeds helping Team USA travel to their next destination – Oklahoma City. Dinner is at 6:00 p.m. tonight. Come out and help support TEAM USA! Call Boot Hill at 227-8188 for any further details.
UPDATE FROM HOME WITH THE OL' PREACHER: Well, it's been a busy, busy few days. My wife and I traveled over 3000 miles in last 2 weeks. I was in two different churches with meetings in Kansas. Both meetings were a blessing. One was with Bro. Kryger who has not been long at the Smokey Hill Baptist Church in Ellsworth, KS. Then David Jones is a veteran mission pastor leaving NC over 20 years ago and he has been used of the Lord to start several churches. He is now in Garden City, KS at the Faith B.C. We had such a good time especially with the Jones. It was the first time that my wife and I had time to spend with them since going to Kansas 20 yrs ago. We renewed old acquaintance and just had a wonderful time. My wife and I got to tour Dodge City and see "Boot Hill" and lots of other sites, souveneirs, and history of that great state. Now this morning I went to see my friend Will Goldsmith graduate from college. Great accomplishment on his part and we send our "congrats" to him. I enjoyed a great lunch with h ...
Enjoyed a good lunch with Pastor and his family. They are some of the nicest people. Tonight is the last night of meeting here in Ellsworth. We will be heading out in the morning for Garden City, KS. WE start at the Faith Baptist Church on Sunday morning with Bro. David Jones. I can't wait to see them. HE is one of my "Timothys". On the way there tomorrow, we plan to stop off in "Dodge City." It is the real deal (or at least it is historic). May run into Matt Dillion and Miss Kitty. You think? Anyway, it will be fun to see "Boot Hill" and most of all just a day to have fun and goof off. So pray for us tonight. Catch you all later!
