![]() Here's how THE CONFESSION begins: "The custodian at St. Mark’s had just scraped three inches of snow off the sidewalks when the man with the cane appeared. The sun was up, but the winds were howling; the temperature was stuck at the freezing mark. The man wore only a pair of thin dungarees, a summer shirt, well-worn hiking boots, and a light Windbreaker that stood little chance against the chill. But he did not appear to be uncomfortable, nor was he in a hurry. He was on foot, walking with a limp and a slight tilt to his left, the side aided by the cane. He shuffled along the sidewalk near the chapel and stopped at a side door with the word “Office” painted in dark red. He did not knock and the door was not locked. He stepped inside just as another gust of wind hit him in the back. The room was a reception area with the cluttered, dusty look one would expect to find in an old church. In the center was a desk with a nameplate that announced the presence of Charlotte Junger, who sat not far behind ...

![]() When Brain Damage Unlocks The Genius Within (long read but worth it) Brain damage has unleashed extraordinary talents in a small group of otherwise ordinary individuals. Will science find a way for everyone to tap their inner virtuoso? Derek Amato stood above the shallow end of the swimming pool and called for his buddy in the Jacuzzi to toss him the football. Then he launched himself through the air, head first, arms outstretched. He figured he could roll onto one shoulder as he snagged the ball, then slide across the water. It was a grave miscalculation. The tips of Amato’s fingers brushed the pigskin—then his head slammed into the pool’s concrete floor with such bone-jarring force that it felt like an explosion. He pushed to the surface, clapping his hands to his head, convinced that the water streaming down his cheeks was blood gushing from his ears. At the edge of the pool, Amato collapsed into the arms of his friends, Bill Peterson and Rick Sturm. It was 2006, and the 39-year-old sales trainer ...

So for his birthday she takes him to a local Strip club. The doorman at the club greets them and says, "Hey Vern, how you doing?" His wife is puzzled and asks if he's been to this club before. "Oh no," says Vern. "He's in my bowling league." When they are seated, a waitress asks Vern If he'd like his usual and brings over a Budweiser. His wife is becoming increasingly uncomfortable and says, "How did she know that you drink Budweiser?" "I recognize her” she's the waitress from the golf club. I always have a Bud at the end of the 1st nine, honey." A stripper then comes over to their table, throws her arms around Vern, starts to rub herself all over him and says... "Hi Vern, want your usual table dance, big boy?" Vern's wife, now furious, grabs her purse and storms out of the club. Vern follows and spots her getting into a cab and before ...
![]() Jesse Jackson Jr. pleaded guilty yesterday in Chicago, to grossly misusing campaign funds. $750,000 that people donated to support his campaign, were used to buy a $43,000 Rolex watch, Bruce Lee memorabilia, and a mink cashmere cape, among other things. We've seen so many politicians fall like this thru the years, so this is nothing new. Nevertheless, it's still very disappointing. Especially when it's someone who showed so much promise early on. I have known him for a number of years and always liked him. I still do. I don't like what he did, but do like him. On top of all of that, his wife, Sandra, who recently resigned her seat on Chicago's city council, is expected to plead guilty to filing false tax returns later today. When it rains, it pours. I guess sometimes you don't need Mother Nature to bring you rain. When you spend the peoples money on Rolex watches, mink capes, and $60,000 in nightclubs and lounges, you're making it rain.

![]() Singer Billy Holiday, jazz vocalist. Born Eleanora Fagan on April 7, 1915, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (Some sources say Baltimore, Maryland. Her birth certificate reportedly reads "Elinore Harris.") One of the most influential jazz singers of all time, Billie Holiday had a thriving career for many years before her battles with substance abuse got the better of her. Holiday spent much of her childhood in Baltimore, Maryland. Her mother, Sadie, was only a teenager when she had her. Her father is widely believed to be Clarence Holiday, who eventually became a successful jazz musician, playing with the likes of Fletcher Henderson. Unfortunately for Billie, he was only an infrequent visitor in her life growing up. Sadie married Philip Gough in 1920 and for a few years Billie had a somewhat stable home life. But that marriage ended a few years later, leaving Billie and Sadie to struggle along on their own again. Sometimes Billie was left in the care of other people. Holiday started skipping school, and she ...

![]() Oh dear GOD! This is a message this guy sent me on "a singles website: So, you know, I feel like talking! So here I go: What kind of shelters do you volunteer at? What is that like? I would love to know more about what art, music and film you enjoy. As far as art goes, I like Monet and recently saw a great Miro exhibit at the National Gallery. You probably know more about art than I do. I see you have a great and varied interest in music. I know some of the music you like. As far as classical goes, I have been listening to a lot of Shostakovitch chamber music and the Grosse Fuge by Beethoven. I also love Bartok string quartets. A friend of mine is moving and I am storing 600 of his CDs making my total about 1200 right now. He has lots of rock, Led Zepplin and 70's jazz/rock fushion which I am only moderately interested in as well as some real good jazz to augment my collection. As far as photography is concerned I like Ansel Adams a lot and have done some low light, film photography in jazz clubs with som ...

![]() Last Night, I accepted an Academy Award for Jinx. (Sorry, missed the photo op) I went to a comedy Club in Phoenix to watch Actor-Comedian, Ben Gleib, perform. He toured the United States promoting the Academy Awards Presentations. Part of the act was to select patrons to come on stage, hold the Oscar and give an impromptu "acceptance speech." Of course, he added humor to everyone's time. He selected me out of the audience, and after an appropriate amount of jousting, I held the Oscar and said, "I'd like to thank the Academy for turning my novel, Jinx, into a movie and my co-author, John, for writing it with me." Laughs turned into a book promotion. He's now reading Jinx on his way back to Hollywood.

![]() ...I reluctantly acknowledged my brother's over-exuberant affirmation and turned toward the other three guys in the band and shrugged my shoulders in hesitant acceptance. "I guess we're doing this.", was the admission I had made to myself. The Guitarist gave another of his characteristic nods of both disapproval and acceptance to The Drummer. The Drummer, who looked as un-thrilled about playing this tiny room as I was with his insipid drumming was clearly not having a good time. Unsatisfied, they turned back to me as they made an empty gesture of placation and slowly began to trudge back up the stairs. We walked out the back door. I sent The Driver and The Drummer around to the front of the house to pull the vehicles into the parking stalls at the back of the house to make the load in process easier. I walked over and stood with my brother and Habeeb who turned to me with pupils vibrating. Commenting quietly, "It's cramped down there." Habeeb acknowledged me with a, "Yep...",as he drew in a br ...

![]() Don't believe anyone who says its easy to become a Christian.Salvation for sinners cost God His own son; it cost God's son His life, and it'll cost you the same thing. Salvation isn't the result of an intellectual exercise. It comes from a life lived in obedience and service to Christ as revealed in the scripture, its the fruit of actions, not intentions. There's no room for passive spectators: words without actions are empty and futile. Remember that what John saw in his vision in the book of revelations, he saw in his vision of judgement the Book of life, not a Book of words or Book of intellectual musings. The life we live, not the words we speak, determines our eternal destiny..

![]() In his newly published memoir, the world's most famous music mogul comes out of the closet to acknowledge that he is bisexual. And part of the reason he stayed in the closet, Clive Davis suggests, is the problem that many *** as well as straight people have believing that bisexuality is a real sexual preference—or lack of it, if you will—and not just a hedge against owning one's homosexuality. Clive Davis' memoir Davis waits till the very end of The Soundtrack of My Life to address his personal life at all... and then, it's only for six pages, out of nearly 600. But, inevitably, that's become a bigger instant focus than anything the longtime label chief might have to say about discovering Whitney Houston or squabbling with Kelly Clarkson. "For over 50 years I never had sex with a male," the twice-divorced Davis, now 80, said in an interview with Nightline. "It wasn't repressed. I had very good sexual relationships with women.” But had he ever thought about men "in that way," asked ABC's Cynthia McFa ...

![]() I got an email from a friend listing 9 things that will disappear in our lifetime. number one is the post office. It saddens me. I love to get mail; I look forward to magazines, cards, letters, etc. Frances and I send birthday cards to loved ones. When I was growing up, we would order clothes from Aldens, and I think from Spiegel, which is now a pricey store, but not at the time. When I became a wife and mother, I would order some little something from Spiegel just to get on their catalog mailing list. My favorites were the catalogs from Nieman-Marcus! They had unusual, one-of-a-kind items, of course pricey, but fun. They were the true "wish books." I guess most folks look at this stuff on-line now, but I just like to have that catalog in my hands! I still pay my bills by mail. Most of them. Anyway, we will have lost something important when the Postal Service goes away.

![]() Newlywed Nonsense By Dr. James Dobson Not long ago, I was flipping through the channels on our television and paused momentarily to watch one of those newlywed game shows. It was a bad decision. The leering host posed a series of dumb questions to a lineup of flaky brides whose husbands were sequestered backstage in a soundproof room. He challenged the women to predict their husband's response to inquiries that went something like this: Where was the exact spot your husband saw you stark naked for the first time? If you and your husband ever separated, which of his friends would be the first to make a pass at you? How would you describe the first time you and your husband made whoopee using these TV terms: First Run, Rerun, or Cancelled? Where is the last place you would have, if you could have, made love? Without the least hesitation, the women blurted out frank answers to these and other intimate questions. At times I felt I shouldn't be watching, and indeed, past generations would have blushed and gasp ...

Yet Oprah NEVER shares the Gospel of Jesus Christ with her fans. In fact, Oprah denied Jesus in front of millions of viewers. ![]() "The Oprah Effect" The power of Winfrey's opinions and endorsement to influence public opinion, especially consumer purchasing choices, has been dubbed "The Oprah Effect".[123] The effect has been documented or alleged in domains as diverse as book sales, beef markets, and election voting. Late in 1996,[124] Winfrey introduced the Oprah's Book Club segment to her television show. The segment focused on new books and classics and often brought obscure novels to popular attention. The book club became such a powerful force that whenever Winfrey introduced a new book as her book-club selection, it instantly became a best-seller; for example, when she selected the classic John Steinbeck novel East of Eden, it soared to the top of the book charts. ![]() Off to Book Club this morning! What good ones have you read lately? I recommend Ken Follet's , World Without End, It's a tome, and it's fiction, but gives a great overview of what was happening in Europe in the 1300s just the same. Great one to hunker down with on theses cold days (although I read it beneath a mosquito bet in Panama). Come on, Peeps! Give me some ideas for good books! I mostly like to be entertained, but learn something new along the read too.: )
