Today we remember the late great Delaine Alvin "Delaney" Bramlett (July 1, 1939 – December 27, 2008) an American singer, songwriter, musician, and producer. Bramlett's five-decade career reached peaks in creativity, performance, and notoriety in partnership with his then-wife Bonnie Bramlett in a revolving troupe of professional musicians and rock superstars dubbed Delaney & Bonnie & Friends. Born in Pontotoc, Mississippi, Bramlett moved to Los Angeles, California in the early 1960s after a stint in the United States Navy, where he established himself as a singer-songwriter, writing with fellow musicians Joey Cooper, Mac Davis, and Jackie DeShannon. By 1965, Bramlett was a regular member of the Shindogs, the house band of the television show, Shindig!. During this time, he worked with J.J. Cale and Leon Russell and released some unsuccessful solo singles. One of these, "Guess I Must Be Dreamin'" entered the Cashbox "Looking Ahead" survey on May 14, 1967. In the late 1960s, British guitarist Eric Clapton ...

In December 1969, George Harrison performed with Delaney & Bonnie & Friends in the UK. On 1 December 1969, he watched Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett perform at the Albert Hall in London and joined them the following night on stage in Bristol. It was the first time he'd played in a concert venue since The Beatles' final concert on 29 August 1966. The tour consisted of dates in Birmingham, Sheffield, Newcastle, Liverpool and Croydon, although George was unable to perform at the show in Newcastle due to his Mother's illness. Footage is rare, but shows were recorded and released in 1970 on "Delaney & Bonnie & Friends On Tour With Eric Clapton." George Harrison was credited as "L'Angelo Misterioso." The "Friends" included Eric Clapton, Jim Gordon, Carl Radle, Bobby Whitlock, Leon Russell, Rita Coolidge, Dave Mason, Jim Price and the legendary Bobby Keys, who also played on All Things Must Pass and countless legendary recordings. RIP Bobby Keys - 18 December 1943 - 2 December 2014. Namaste; Nance ॐ

Happy Feb. 8 Birthday to folk icon, TOM RUSH, credited as a key figure in ushering in the era of the singer-songwriter - in the mid-to-late-'60s, in addition to performing his own songs, he covered the likes of then-unknown Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Murray McLauchlan & David Wiffen, helping them to gain recognition early in their careers...(This photo: my copy of Tom's 1970 self-titled album, signed by the Birthday boy...) Tom's 1968 composition "No Regrets" has become an acknowledged standard, with countless cover versions recorded (including Emmylou Harris & a pair of UK Top 10s in different decades by The Walker Brothers & Midge Ure); after 35 years away from the studio, he returned in 2009 with the excellent "What I Know", featuring guest turns from Emmylou, Nanci Griffith & Bonnie Bramlett; a 2009 video of his performance of Steven Walters' "The Remember Song" struck a chord & went viral on YouTube, receiving over 4 million plays; on Dec. 28, 2012 Tom appeared at Boston Symphony Ha ...
Spent almost an hour this morning viewing and listening to a tribute to Southern Rock music as it was done by the Allman Brothers during Duane Allman's lifetime and Lynyrt Skynyrt while Ronnie van Zant was still alive. Charlie Daniels did most of the narration and also Bonnie Bramlett. I was mesmerized by the music. I watched the entire tape. Must have been at least an hour in length. I suspect I will watch it again later tonight. Great stuff.

Dobson’s Improbable History for November 8 On this day in history, Moctezuma welcomes Cortés to Tenochtitlan (which doesn’t work out that well for Moctezuma), the Jacobite Rising fails at Culloden, the Trent Affair begins, Röntgen discovers X-rays, the only successful coup d’etat in US history takes place in Wilmington NC; the Beer Hall Putsch begins (failing the next day), the Torch landings begin, the first jet-to-jet dogfight takes place, JFK beats Nixon, and the severed ear of John Paul Getty III reaches a newspaper in Rome. Today seems to be female singer-songwriter day, with Patti Page, Bonnie Bramlett, Minnie Riperton, Bonnie Raitt, and Rickie Lee Jones all sharing November 8 birthdays. For those of my non-musician friends who may not know Randall , he is a musician and singer-songwriter, whose career as a solo artist, session player, and touring musician, has spanned more than three decades. He has worked with such notable performers as Gregg Allman, Bonnie Raitt, Goose Creek Symphony, Robbie Robertson, Elvin Bishop, Steve Winwood, Bonnie Bramlett, B.J. Thomas, Widespread Panic, and Roger Glover. He plays keyboards, saxophones, guitar, mandolin, and harmonica, and his songwriting is heavily influenced by blues, folk, and gospel music.

Today honors two beverages with National Cappuccino Day and Harvey Wallbanger Day. Those of us here in the fancy coffee Capital of the Universe know there's a difference between a real Cappuccino and a Latte and a Cafe au Lait. If you got to the unenlightened heathen parts of America you'll discover that they use "Cappuccino" to refer to any espresso drink with milk. Mostly they're making Lattes with icky over-steamed milk and bad foam on the top and calling them "Cappuccinos." When traveling it's much safer to just order a Harvey Wallbanger since it's simply galliano, vodka, and OJ. The Wallbanger was invented at Duke's Blackwater Bar in Hollywood in 1952--the birthplace of the Rusty Nail, the White Russian, and other popular cocktails. Contrary to popular belief National Dunce Day is not a Tea Party holiday but it should be. National Paronomasia Day celebrates the pun so remember--"You can tune a guitar but you can't tuna fish, unless you play bass." On this day in history in 1519 Cortes reached Tenocht ...

*** I've always been old Ben. Ya' know what though, I don't mind. I mean if my muscles ache, it's because I've used 'em. It's hard for me to walk up them steps now, its 'cuz I walked up 'em every night to lay next to a man who loved me. I got a few wrinkles here and there, but I've layed under thousands of skies with sunny days. I look and feel this way, well cuz I drank and I smoked. I lived and I loved, danced, sang, sweat and screwed my way thorough a pretty *** good life if you ask me. Getting old ain't bad Ben. Getting old, that's earned." ~Maggie McGlone (Bonnie Bramlett} to Ben Randall {Kevin Costner} "The Guardian" (2006)

an excerpt from wikipedia and a couple of songs."Delaney & Bonnie – in ensemble called Delaney & Bonnie & Friends – was a rock/soul revue fronted by husband-and-wife singer/songwriters Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett.
