Good morning. It's clear and cold here. No wind. Full moon glowing like a pearl. The Big Dipper is overhead now. It's a day of remembrance...Dec. 7th. 73 years ago, Pearl Harbor was attacked. I could expound, but why when most of us baby boomers had great history teachers? I have never been to the resting place of the USS Arizona that is set aside in our 50th state. I can't. The Wrecking Crew's members were musically versatile but typically had formal backgrounds in jazz or classical music. The talents of this group of "first call" players were used on almost every style of recording including television theme songs, film scores, advertising jingles and almost every genre of American popular music, from The Monkees to Bing Crosby. Notable artists employing the Wrecking Crew's talents included Nancy Sinatra, Bobby Vee, The Partridge Family, The Mamas & the Papas, The Carpenters, The 5th Dimension, John Denver, The Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, and Nat King Cole. They were among the inaugural "Sidemen" inductees to the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in 2000 (specifically, drummer Hal Blaine). The figures most often associated with the Wrecking Crew are: producer Phil Spector, who used the Crew to create his trademark "Wall of Sound"; and Beach Boys member and songwriter Brian Wilson, who used the Crew's talents on many of his mid-1960s productions including the songs "Go ...

Bobby Vee (Robert Thomas Velline) was born on April 30, 1943 in Fargo, North Dakota. Vee's career began amid tragedy. On February 3, 1959 Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper were killed, along with 21-year-old pilot Roger Peterson, in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa, while en route to the next show on the tour itinerary in Moorhead, Minnesota. Velline, then aged 15, and a hastily-assembled band of Fargo, North Dakota schoolboys calling themselves the Shadows, volunteered for and were given the unenviable job of filling in for Holly and his band at the Moorhead engagement. Their performance there was a success, setting in motion a chain of events that led to Vee's career as a popular singer. He had his first single with "Suzie Baby", an original song penned by Vee that nodded towards Buddy Holly's "Peggy Sue" for the Minneapolis-based Soma Records in 1959. It was his fourth release, a revival of the Clovers' doo *** ballad "Devil or Angel", that brought him into the big time with U.S. bu ...

Yes, we all believe you. Four Bobby Vee fans write... (Herald, Oct 62):
Dear Club; Peace. This is a shameful ad – but wait – read it all before “delete!” Thanks. First I must confess I am not a diehard Bobby Vee fan. Growing up in the late 40s and 50s my first musical appreciation came from those yellow labeled MGM 78s by Hank Williams. As the local country & western radio stations signed off at sundown I stretched my portable Philco to the limit searching for late night entertainment, I located WLAC Nashville and Rhythm & Blues became my rave and would remain throughout my teen years. Of course I heard all the new sounds for teens on the juke box, at the swimming pond, car radios, dances, “teen towns”, etc. – the sound track of my life, except when at home with my record player and WLAC. I remember Bobby Vee, especially his rendition of Devil or Angel. The song writer, Mary Carter, was from Augusta (aside years later I would become friends with her son). My favorite was The Clovers version, but Bobby’s was good! Now enter 50 years later – 2014 and The Adob ...

Hi All On a personal basis I have always had the opinion that the great era of Rock n roll in the UK whether it may be rockin’ or ballads came to an end on December 31st 1962. Obviously I am very aware that this is a 50’s Face Book group in real terms, and peeps what a really good group it is ! However it seems to me that we just cannot turn off likes or dislikes at the end of December 1959 just because of a date in a century, so purely for fun and reminiscing only because my favourite year of all was 1962, I have listed 50 of my close favourite hits from 1962 & some from ‘61 just as a form of a memory jerker for you all to remember or connect with. They are not in my specific order of favourites, I have just written them down from my memory banks of . . . . Oh! So long ago. Carole King - It might as well rain until September, Bobby Vee - Sharing you, Flee Rekkers - Lone Rider, Johnny Crawford - Your nose is gonna grow, Jimmy Justice - Ain’t that funny’ Brook Brothers - Welcome home baby, Jet H ...
In one night we lost three seminal rock and roll singers...but little known is who was also on stage that night. The Big Bopper (JP Richardson), Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens, who, along with Dion & The Belmonts, were headlining the Winter Dance Party 1959. Buddy's guitarist for the tour was Waylon Jennings, who'd go onto becoming a country music legend. Later that evening Bobby Vee, whose vocals sounded very similar to Holly's joined, along with Frankie Avalon and Fabian. Bobby Vee - who everyone said I was the spitting image of as a teenager - finished the tour for Holly and became a star on his own. We met one night at KHJ-TV in L.A. I was walking down a dark corridor to the bathroom from the newsroom and he was coming the other direction. When we met I shook his hand and said "Bobby, people have always said I look just like you." Without batting an eye he instantly replied "Hey, everyone always told me I looked just like you." Duh, did I feel dumb. "La Bamba," the film about Ritchie Valens was filme ...

"Rubber Ball," singer Bobby Vee's fifth chart single and his second top-10 hit, made its debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on November 28, 1960. Gene Pitney co-wrote the song under his mother's maiden name, Ann Orlowski, along with Musicor Records founder Aaron Schroeder. The song is about a guy whose girlfriend mistreats and two-times him, but he keeps bouncing back for more. Snuff Garrett produced the session. The recording, on the Liberty label, peaked at No. 6 and remained on the chart for 14 weeks. It hit No. 4 in the United Kingdom and was a No. 1 record in Australia. "Liberty Records had Eddie Cochran on the label, and they had signed Johnny Burnette. And so here I was at the tender age of 16 working with some of my heroes: Jerry Allison and Tommy Allsup, who was on that 'Winter Dance Party' tour playing guitar for Buddy Holly. Tommy had been doing a lot of studio work, and he played lead guitar on 'Rubber Ball' and a lot of my records. So there was this nucleus of people who had Buddy Holly con ...

Where Were We…… in 1963 ? Concert Will Revive Your Memories Remember all those early rock and roll hit songs by Paul Anka, Fabian, Bobby Vee, Bobby Darin, Sam Cooke, Ricky Nelson, the Everly Brothers, and Frankie Avalon? It’s hard to believe, but most of those tunes are now more than 50 years old. Still, they have a special place in our hearts and our memories. That’s why on October 5, Columbus’ Bill Cohen will perform a concert of many of these songs from the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. Bill will be backed up by a top-notch band, consisting of Brian Szuch, Rebecca Stansbury, and Renilda Marshall. The songs won’t be the only thing to rekindle fond memories and thoughts. Trivia questions about early 1960’s fads, fashions, news events, and rock songs will be featured. So will a display of the era’s albums and other memorabilia. Refreshments and a couple of fun surprises are also in store. The event is set for Saturday October 5 at 7 p.m. in the social hall of the Overbrook Presby ...

Happy Birthday to songwriter Gerry Goffin, born on this day in Brooklyn, NYC. Part of the Brill Building songwriting collective, he and his former wife Carole King penned numerous hits during the 1960s, notably No.1s for The Shirelles, Bobby Vee, Little Eva and Steve Lawrence. Subsequently Goffin collaborated with Barry Mann, Russ Titelmann and Michael Masser, writing songs which were recorded by The Hollies, Lesley Gore, Manhattan Transfer, Kim Carnes and Whitney Houston. Far from resting on his laurels, as of 2008 Goffin has co-written seven US No.1s and 59 US Top 40 hits.

THIS IS WHY KRISSI IS SO UPSET OVER THIS BOOK. I JUST DON'T KNOW. DON'T EVEN KNOW IF I WANT TO READ IT. IS PAT HOUSTON PENNING A BOOK TOO??!? I REALLY WISH BOBBY BROWN WOULD PEN HIM ONE. CAUSE THERE IS ALWAYS 2 SIDES TO EVERY STORY. Whitney & Bobby were BAD for each other when they were BAD! BUT, when it was GOOD, it was *** GOOD, and the LOVE the two shared was REAL. This is one of many songs I have written for my wife of 30 years now, Bev (Croatt) Roth. I would be lost with out her. The movie I made to go with it features photographs of our life together and video of the recording session at Rock House in St. Joseph MN owned by Rock N Roll pioneer Bobby Vee and his sons. Tommy Vee plays bass on this track along with his brother in law on snare and brushes, Dennis Kennedy whom I went to college with back in the early 1980s on the GI bill at St. Cloud State University. I was dusting off chord changes for mine and Kurt Rodman's annual grocery store Christmas tour. Kurt is the guitarist along with me on this track. I was working on the classic 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town' when I got the idea to steal the chords and write a completely different melody. Andy Dee played lapsteel here and mixed the song at his home studio. We got married at the court house in St. Cloud MN in 1982 for less than 100 dollars, the judge charged $50 and the licence cost $35. We put copies of t ...

Kind of a sad day for me. We sold our 62' Chevy today. It needs repair which we aren't going to do so we decided we needed more room in the garage. We sure had a lot of fun in that Chevy. We used to "buzz the gut" (cruise around for you younger people), go to car shows, etc. and just have fun driving her. Remember when a gang of us drove her to GR and saw Freddy "Boom-boom" Cannon, Bobby Vee, Wolfman Jack etc. How much fun was that!! They don't make cars like that anymore. Good memories.
: More Than I Can Say, i love you twice-Bobby Vee.. berasa hidup di jaman 60-an :3
