Lmao, you know your from Long Island when. You live in the shadow of the greatest city in the world, but you almost never go there. When you're away from Long Island, you love it and when you're there, you don't. You think if you're not from Long Island or NYC, you're not really from New York. You know the exact point at which Queens turns into Nassau simply on intuition. You don't go to Manhattan, you go to "The City". You never realize you have an accent till you leave. Every thing north of the Bronx is "upstate." New Jersey *** At some point in your life you've gone clamming. Either your parents or your grandparents lived in the city. You'd pay $11.50 for a movie. You don't live in Long Island. You live ON Long Island. You know where the Commack Motor Inn is. Your distant future might involve the state of Florida. You can correctly pronounce places like Ronkonkonma, Happauge, Wantagh, Mineola, Islandia, Massapequa. You know the location of 6 malls and a dozen McDonalds and 36 7-11's. You never, ev ...

Chuck, well-known for his work as a session musician and professional skateboarder, spent most of his life in Philadelphia. His credits include starting the 1980’s skate punk band, Mcrad, remixing songs for Amy Grant and Sting, playing the bass line on “The River of Dreams” by Billy Joel, filling in on drums at Pearl Jam concerts, and touring Urge Overkill and the Bad Brains. In 2010, Chuck was awarded a Pew Fellowships in the Arts, a prestigious and well-deserved award for his work in music/arts. Treece grew up in Newark, Delaware, where he attended John Dickinson High School, but moved to Philadelphia in 1982 because, according to Treece, “I was sick of high- school and I knew I wasn’t going to college. I knew I wanted to do music and skate.” Between 1982 and 1990, he was a professional skater with endorsements by several companies, including Santa Cruz Skateboards, Powell-Peralta and Airwalk sneakers. Treece released two albums with his band McRad, Absence of Sanity in the 1980s (rereleased ...

Billy Joel, twelve gardens-live album. Anyway, I noticed some freshly pasted posters for a new movie with Jimmy Page, the Edge, and Jack White. It might get loud, was the title. Years later, when I had met a man with the software to download any movie I could think of, we watched it. The other two went to Page's house, who has a recording studio on the premises. The most telling moment in the movie came when Page strapped up and started to play, and the look on the two other guys faces said it all. They were in the presence, of greatness.

Great time New York. I will never listen to Billy Joel the same again.
After more than three decades of keeping these secrets under my hat, I can finally reveal how my juvenile delinquent friends and I used to sneak into Madison Square Garden. Whenever a decent show would pop up at MSG, which in those days meant any band with a guitar, bass, and drums. The sturdy youth of Jackson Heights would gather and take the mighty RR train into Manhattan for an almost free night of worshiping Satan through rock music. We would all gather under the Ace picture. For those of you who are too young to remember or are not New York natives, the Ace picture was a giant picture of the Bronx's greatest son Mr. Paul "Ace" Frehley from KISS. Ace's visage hung on the 7th Avenue side of the Garden for about five years before being replaced by ughhh.Billy Joel. We would cobble together a couple of old ticket stubs that we would appropriate from various sources to make it look like one whole ticket. The Garden had their own proprietary box office in those days and all the tickets no matter what the e ...

New to New York? Check out the Billy Joel concert Monday night at the Madison Square Garden!
There may be no bigger American pop pianist than Billy Joel. The "Piano Man" has had numerous hit records, sold out concerts around the world, and had musicals produced to his music. For all of his time in the spotlight, there are still things to discover about Billy Joel.  1. Growing up in New York, Billy was a bruiser of a kid. He ran with a street gang and took up boxing for three years, which earned him a broken nose. 2. Many of Billy’s songs are just personal stories put to music, his most notable being "Piano Man." The epic song takes a look as Joel’s life a lounge singer, when he performed under the alias Bill Martin. 3. Billy Joel is among a handful of pop artists who have received the nation's highest cultural award, the Kennedy Center Honors. Joel received his medal in 2013. 4. Famed choreographer Twyla Tharp collaborated with Billy in 2002 on "Movin’ Out,"  a musical about the Vietnam War that used many of Billy’s songs. I need to get to New York and see billy Joel ASAP. If I die without ever seeing him I'll never forgive the people who didn't take me.
For you Donna Palumbo While countless rockers started their careers in the New York suburb of Long Island before going on to worldwide success (Billy Joel, Twisted Sister, Steve Vai, Brian Setzer, Blue Öyster Cult, etc.), there have been countless acts that appeared poised for a breakthrough, but for whatever reason, fell short. Many longtime followers of Long Island-based rock would probably agree that tops on the "woulda/coulda/shoulda" list were the Good Rats, a group who played at some of the East Coast's best-known/biggest venues (Madison Square Garden, Nassau Coliseum, the Philadelphia Spectrum) during the '70s, while opening for such big names as Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne, the Grateful Dead, Bruce Springsteen, Kiss, Journey, Heart, Styx, Meat Loaf, and Rush, among others. Specializing in a tough form of bar band/hard rock (comparable to Led Zeppelin early on, before getting more commercial), quite a few bandmembers waltzed through the Good Rats' ranks after their formation during the late '60s, but ...
One of the greatest rock and roll tours of all time began Jan 3, 1974—40 years ago today—in Chicago. It combined Bob Dylan, who had been absent from touring for more than seven years, with The Band—his friends and neighbors from Woodstock, New York. What happened inside that basement at Big Pink would now be unleashed on the world. I was at the concert on this tour Jan. 19, 1974 at the Sportatorium in Hollywood, Florida. By today’s standards, the “Sporto” was a terrible venue. It was a hangar-like building made of concrete with a steel roof. It seated 14,000 people and had no air conditioning. When it rained, the roof leaked on the performers and the audience. Robert Plant once said it was the only venue where he was rained out inside of a building. The sound was atrocious—like being inside of a large metal garbage can—which is essentially what it was. Billy Joel, after performing there, once called it “an acoustical nightmare.” But on the night Dylan and the Band played there, it didn ...

Billy Joel News... Billy Joel Gets Madison Square Garden Gig … Billy Joel is returning to touring with monthly shows at Madison Square Garden. He says, “In 1978 I achieved my dream of playing this iconic venue for the first time. I thought it didn’t get any better than that moment. Now, 35 years later, I’ve had the incredible fortune to experience 46 of those incredible moments right here, including both the Concert for New York and 12-12-12, which were so important to this city. I said it in ’78 and I’ll say it here again, there’s no better venue in the world.” Billy Joel is selling his Hamptons mansion. He bought it from actor Roy Scheider in 2007 for $16.8 million. It was reportedly a gift for his then-wife Katie Lee. The home has been listed before at $22.5 million, $19.9 million, $18.5 million and now $16.8 million. It has a fireplace in the master bathroom.
One week from now, please join us in front of Roseland Ballroom on west 34th street to explain to Governor Cuomo exactly what New York's state of mind is (Billy Joel will be performing at his annual bday party/fundraiser). Happy Birthday Governor Andrew Cuomo! We want to keep New York frack free!!!
OK Thanks to Rachel Varga, she gave me the number 9 so here we go. 1. Las Vegas is the only other place I have lived outside of New York. 2. I am a long suffering NY JETS and NY METS fan. 3. My wife Stephanie Kalinowski Grossman and myself actually met Rachel Varga and Jennifer Jennifer Schelhornat the great HOGS and HEIFERS in NYC and were Sunday night regulars there prior to moving to Vegas. 4. I have played at Nassau Coliseum. It was indoor soccer not hockey or backup to Billy Joel. 5. Amongst my favorite musicians/singers in no particular order are: Barry Manilow Burt Bacharach, Alicia Keys, Michael Bublé, Maroon 5, Bruno Mars. 6. My background is mixed I am an Irish Jew. 7. I have been called the "Master of Useless Information". 8. I am a night owl by nature needing little sleep. 9. I enjoy going on YouTube and looking for videos of classic TV and News reports along with finding live performances of famous songs and different artists covering songs they arent necessarily famous for.
SINOSSI 5X06 "Movin' out" Trama: When Sue points out to an irate Will that the exclusion of any arts related career booths at McKinley’s Career Fair is simply indicative of the fact that “there’s no such thing as a career in the arts,” Will is forced to concede the fact that choosing to be an artist is a path fraught with uncertainty. He strives to teach the gleeks the power of perseverance by assigning them the music of the resilient Billy Joel. Blaine and Sam travel to New York ostensibly to look at potential colleges, but while Kurt is thrilled with the thought of Blaine joining him at NYADA, Blaine may have other thoughts on the subject. Meanwhile, despite considerable resistance, Artie encourages Becky Jackson to look past the walls of McKinley for her future plans. And after being dumped by ...
1989 was an awesome year in music: Workbook (Bob Mould), Freedom (Neil Young), Doolittle (Pixies), Full Moon Fever (Tom Petty), Oh Mercy (Bob Dylan), Spike (Elvis Costello), Mother's Milk (Red Hot Chili Peppers), The End of the Innocence (Don Henley), and yes, I'll even throw some love to the year's Rolling Stones (Steel Wheels), Paul Mccartney (Flowers in the Dirt), and Billy Joel (Storm Front) releases. But the best record of that year has to be Lou Reed's New York. Probably my favorite album of a tremendous career. You will be missed, Mr. Reed. (Also need to thank the now-defunct Discount Den on State Street for mis-marking the 1992 Lou Reed box set, which meant I could afford it and enjoy it for twenty+ years.)
NEW YORK (AP) - Elton John honored Hillary Rodham Clinton for her work to help those affected by HIV and AIDS at an annual event for his foundation. Clinton was excited as she accepted the first founders award from the Elton John AIDS Foundation on Tuesday night in New York. The former secretary of state told the crowd at Cipriani's restaurant that "we still have so far to go" when it comes to helping those affected by HIV and AIDS. "There are so many challenges in front of us," Clinton said. The former U.S. senator added that she wants to see an "AIDS-free generation" and that accomplishing that must be "our North Star." "I thank you, but I know there's more for us to do," she said. "Humans may discriminate, but viruses don't." Billy Joel, Alec Baldwin, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Lisa Marie Presley and Courtney Love also attended John's "An Enduring Vision: A Benefit for the Elton John AIDS Foundation" event, which raised $3.45 million. Recent Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Heart performed a dozen songs, ...

Back from 28 hour round trip to upstate New York, My Uncles Place, the bar we used to hang out in during high school, is much improved. IN the parking lot there was another South Carolina plate with a Clemson bumper sticker and a Mary Kay cosmetics logo. What are the chances of that? Showed my son and daughter Chenango Valley High where after all these years, we seem to have won every game, and the Ross Park Zoo and Binghamton U, home of the Bearcats. Had no idea what Pandora was but after 14 hours on the return trip listening to Neil Young, the Animals, the Zombies and and Billy Joel it is, as Martha Stewart would say, "a good thing."

Had the BEST time tonight getting surprised by a great old friend that we used to hang out at a Karaoke bar back in 2007 before my accident. This name is Chris, and he is the life of the party - just plain cool. He is one of the few that knew my skills before the accident that broke my neck, and now after. I so needed that. He used to sing "Piano Man" by Billy Joel. The one night I performed it, the sound track went out. His reply (6 years ago - "yep, that's what happens when you try one of my songs!). Tonight, like the superbowl outage, I was thinking about him and in the middle of Piano Man - it went dead. The next song, there he was on stage! To cool. It has been 5 1/2 years, and God dropped that in my lap to remind me "I'm back." Got to do Bon Jovi's "Living on a Prayer" (was thinking of you Clifton Murray, when your group got booked at the Nokia in New York for the first time, and posted the graphic to your page, you had said, "Bon Jovi played there!). Also did "You Raise me Up" performed by Josh Gr ...

On this day in 1894, George Washington Savage died in Dundee, Scotland, at 74. Savage was a native of the New York town that, when he was born, was called Buttermilk Falls, but which is now known as Highland Falls (although there is still a park called Buttermilk Falls). This town, according to one source, was home in the 1970s to songster Billy Joel. In fact, the story goes, Joel was on a bus on his way home to Highland Falls when he wrote “New York State of Mind,” one of his better-known songs, and something of an updated anthem for the Empire State.
The Concert For Sandy Relief was one of the most uplifting, feel-good performances in recent memory. Not only because it was indicative of our perserverance, our sheer ability to express emotion through music, and our belief in fighting for the cause. In this case, the cause was for the Robin Hood Relief Fund. It was for the people who lost their homes and their beloved stomping grounds from a lethal hurricane that ravaged the New York and New Jersey area. Through the fire of the tragedy, many of music's great ones pumped life into the crowd with sterling, emotional performances. Guys like Bruce Springsteen, local products Jon Bon Jovi and Billy Joel proved they "still got it," setting the stage ablaze with memorable performances. Which performance sent goosebumps through your body? Which performance helped enhance your spirit and allowed you to feel the resiliency in the aftermath of this hurricane??

The United States demands a New York / Empire State of Mind live mash up with Billy Joel, Alicia Keys and Jay-Z
Billy Joel's connection to New York is a soul thing. Not Soul in the manner of Marvin Gaye or Aretha Franklin, but soul in the manner of a connection to a place, a city, an essence. Bruce and Bon Jovi are that for New Jersey. They are raw, self-professed garage band singers. And they are great for that, no question about it. But Billy Joel has the essence of New York in his lyrics. Wait until you hear Alicia Keys sing New York later in this show and then you will see the connection. New York is not Rock and Roll. New York is Rock and Roll and Soul and Jazz and Rap and Classical and everything that might be. That's what it is at it's best, anyway.
The cream of Rock 'n' Roll are holding a concert in New York on Wednesday night to raise money for victims of Hurricane Sandy. The Rolling Stones, Billy Joel, Chris Martin, Eric Clapton and Kanye West are all playing. But what about the forgotten victims in other countries that suffered from the storm? Sandy caused huge devastation as it tore a path through Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Post your comments here.

They are expected to perform in the first hour. Other headlines include Bruce Springstein, Paul Mccartney, Kanye West and Billy Joel and many more. Proceeds from the concert will go to the Robin Hood Relief Fund, which is helping victims of Sandy in devastated areas of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The November storm killed dozens and did billions of dollars in damage across the area.
Bruce Springstein and Billy Joel immediately stepped up to the plate to help their home states of New York (Long Island) and New Jersey (Jersey shore) -- excuse me, just saying, where is Jerry Seinfeld and Alec Baldwin (just saying!) -- Long Island could use your "star" power now.
Hello everyone. Hope everyone is doing fine and well. Wanted to tell you that last Sunday I to a concert and saw the Palm Beach Pops, they're the orchestra that play pop culture from Great American Songbook, they did on Autumns in New York and play alot of great music, like Billy Joel, Cole Porter, Vernon Duke, Hoagy Carmichael and lots others and the guest they had is Michael Andrew and they talk about a new musical that will be coming soon is base on a Jerry Lewis 1963 film The Nutty Professor. It was a great concert. I can't believe that holidays will be coming, and also I'll be done at Lynn University until December 11 and I got some topics left on my radio show, the ones I'm doing is Legends of Guitars on different guitarist from different genres of rock, blues, psychedelic, and rockabilly, also Pop Music of American Songbook and I'll be playing early pop singers, big band music and also broadway, songwriters and more and of course the last topic is Christmas music. Hope everyone have a good week.
I didn't see the concert at Rockefeller Center on NBC last nite, but my congrats 2 Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Sting, Christina Aguilera, Aerosmith and others 4 trying 2 do their part 2 raise money 4 the New York region after the havoc of Sandy.
Now this is really taking it too far. Last night was a mini telethon for the people in New York and New Jersey affected by the storm. It was hosted by Matt Lauer of the Today show and Brian Williams from NBC nightly news. It starred Billy Joel, Steven Tyler, Jimmy Fallon, Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi and Sting. It is well known that Billy Joel and Bruce are from New York and even more so Bon Jovi from New Jersey. He is a big adocate for his state. I was told that people were saying this should have been held AFTER the election because these people also are for Obama. Really? They are trying to help. I am sure they reached in their pockets too besides dedicating their time. Oh the next thing will be that Obama actually caused the storm so he would look good at this time. Come on people. Thank God 3 more days and it will be over.
Let's all help, the RED CROSS needs us text 90999 to donate $10 to help the friends, family and wonderful people of New York and New Jersey... Good job Matt Lauer.. Bon Jovi, Springsteen, Billy Joel and Steven Tyler and all the other celebrities they are amazing performers to "come together" and support these very unfortunate folks... God Bless America.
Springsteen will join Jon Bon Jovi and Billy Joel at a benefit concert for Sandy victims which will be recorded in New York and broadcast on Friday night.
Reposting from a friend of a friend: "Okay, I saw someone post that they would like Jon Bon Jovi to have a "restore the shore" concert for New Jersey. Then I thought what about New York, Long Island, Staten Island, etc. All the famous people who live, work or grew up here -- Mariah Carey (Greenlawn), Billy Joel (Hicksville), Eddie Murphy (Roosevelt), Billy Crystal (Long Beach), the Baldwin family and Jerry Seinfeld (Massapequa), Pat Benitar (Lindenhurst), LL Cool J (Bayshore), Rosie O'Donnell (Commack), to name a few. I am only one voice, but maybe if we spread the word something will happen and a difference can be made. To help rebuild our shorelines, towns, neighbors and NYC, a charitable, large-scale fundraiser could make such a difference. Maybe if they come back to their roots they can help rectify Sandy's devastation. PLEASE REPOST THIS! LET'S GET THIS GOING ON FB! ONE VOICE CAN TURN INTO MANY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Thanks. -Christina"
Hurricane Sandy. The worst thing to hit New York since Billy Joel played 5 sold out shows at Madison Square Garden. Is it too soon?
I think I'm going to start a Billy Joel & Jimmy Buffet cover band called "Cheeseburger in New York State of mind"
What's the best song to get in the New York State of mind? Asad Lalljee Empire State of mind (Jay-Z and Alicia Keys) Ilove New York (Madonna) New York State of mind (Billy Joel) New York (U2)?
"Hi I'm Rachel Berry and ill be singing 'New York State of mind' written by Billy Joel...popularized by Barbara Streisand"
Listening to Tony Bennett and Billy Joel sing New York State of mind. It reminds me the journey is coming to a end. Once a young man left and now returns as someone different with a new look of life . The reasoning may have been misdirected sometimes but the heart was always a straight arrow . Money nor glory was ever motivation for this trip. It was taken because thats what needed to be done. From the 24 hr duty stations to just answering the phone it really did not matter. Each one lost counted just as much as the other. The term short means almost over. It has become my favorite of all military terms. God bless the 10th Mountain Division
Good morning. I watched a fantastic show last night. The Last Play at Shea. Billy Joel gave a bravura performance. It marked a milestone in New York as the last performance at Shea Stadium. Done in 2010. It grabbed me. New York State of Mind; Noastaglia waved over me from out of nowhere. And I realized that in my heart, I am still a New Yorker. It brought back memories as the Piano Man weaved his magic and I was transported back to a place that will own me until the day I die.

One of the best things I've ever seen on TV-ended with Paul Mccartney showing up at the last minute, rushed from the airport by New York's finest! The Beatles played the first big concert at Shea in 1965! Billy and the entire show was perfect! I'm so glad to be a small part of magical music!
