We had a great time around that "lunch table". A very special group of people. 3. I am thankful for my theater buddy, Jill Beck. Happy birthday to Peter Asher, the bespectacled red-haired fellow in the duo of Peter and Gordon, who was born in the Harlesden section of northwestern London on June 22, 1944. His father, Richard, was a physician. "During the last couple of years of the blitz, he spent most of his time sewing up people who had been in the bombings," Peter told us for our first book, "Echoes of the Sixties" (His mother, Margaret, was a professional oboe player. Peter spent the first few years of his life on the road with his mother as she toured with English orchestras entertaining military troops. For relaxation, Peter's father played piano. After the breakup of Peter and Gordon, Peter Asher emerged as an insightful talent manager and prolific, award-winning producer for numerous recording artists, including James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Diamond, Cher, Randy Newman, Olivia Newton-John, Bonnie Raitt, 10,000 Maniacs, John Stewart, Kenny Loggins, Dan Fogelberg, Billy Joel, Diana Ross and Ringo Starr. That latter associ ...

Can't recall the previous time to this one (shown in this photo) when I wore a suit, closed shirt, and tie - living the natural life in Sedona as I do. But for show-business, I put on what I call the "monkey suit." The reason is that I was in the dress rehearsal for “Long Island Purim,” the sing-along show based on the “Book of Esther,” Sunday, March 16, 10:00-11:15 am, at the Jewish Community of Sedona (JCS), a free event. This show is set in modern-day Long Island with Esther as the new wife of a billionaire businessman, rather than a queen in ancient Persia; but she still “saves” the Jews from being fired en mass from a large corporation, rather than executed. I shall play the role of Mordecai, who is Esther’s uncle/guardian. The songs we all shall sing were adapted from the works of Long Island composers (Paul Simon, Carole King, Neil Diamond, Billy Joel and Marvin Hamlisch). The JCS is at 100 Meadowlark Dr., off Hwy 179, Sedona.
Visiting Hours at The Hub... I went down to The Hub to check it out, there in the corner building at 350 Georgia Street in the City of the former US Naval Station, Mare Island, and there it was a True Plantation of Delight, pulsating with anticipation and creative potential: local artists’ works were displayed on the walls and in the back was a small stage and I thought to myself, “This looks like the place where a Traveling Salesman and a video crew could see what they could do before they send in the second crew to pick up the guy who thinks he’s part Neil Diamond, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, John Prine, Joni Mitchell, Donna Summer, Bette Midler, and Cool Hand Luke. His family can come see him when he’s back on his Meds during Visiting Hours at The Hub, Second and Fourth Thursday Nights of the month, about 7 – 9pm, or until they close down the place.” ©Peter Bray, 2/23/2014 All rights reserved

Question of the Day: Do any of you mofos have bands or singers you used to love back in the day but now you can't bear to listen to them? For me it's Depeche Mode, REM, Billy Joel, Steve Winwood, Rick Springfield...basically anybody I was into in my teens and twenties (except for Neil Diamond).
A Night Under the Stars with Eric The stars were treated to a romantic evening with Eric tonight. I went out to a vista point on Interstate 8 to see the Gamma Delphinids. It was dark enough to very clearly see the Milky Way. I sat in my Jeep the whole time listening to the radio. Excellent tunes played on the airwaves tonight. Among them were: Looking Glass - Brandy Steve Miller Band - Fly Like an Eagle Peter Schilling - Major Tom Cars - Just What I Needed Spiral Staircase - I Love You More Today Than Yesterday Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing . . . and various songs by Neil Diamond, Chicago, Live, Billy Joel, and Fleetwood Mac among others. Arrived around 1:00AM and stayed until 4:30AM. Saw some activity from 1:30 - 3:00 but the peak really hit around 3:05 - 3:25. I saw 5 meteorites in about 10 seconds around 3:05. Saw a fireball a few minutes later. And I saw a whole lot of satellites. I even saw a UFO. Really! A very bright star a few times brighter than a planet moving about the speed of a sa ...

Guns 'n Roses, Billy Joel, Danzig, and Neil Diamond. Pandora's Classic Metal is bringing its A game this morning! Rock On!
Though my favorite band is Green Day, my favorite decade of rock is the 70's which includes America, The Allman Brothers, Creedence, Queen, Billy Joel, Chuck Barry, The Beach Boys, Boston, Blue Oyster Cult, Black Sabbath, The Doors, The Eagles, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mack, Foreigner, The Grateful Dead, Kansas, Led Zeplin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Meat Loaf, Neil Diamond, Paul Simon, Pink Floyd, The Police, Quite Riot, Ramones, Ray Stevens, REO Speedwagon, Rod Stewart, Sex Pistols, Scorpions, Santana, Styx, Simon & Garfunkel, Three Dog Night, Twisted Sister, U2, Van Halen, The Who, ZZ Top. That's 42 bands, and a whole lot more I didn't mention. I challenge anyone to come up with a better decade then the 70's for music, because if you can list more than 42 bands, as big as these in one decade, then I would love to see this, because I believe that the decade that is often called the Disco era was in fact the single best decade of rock.

The world is against me today! Changed the radio channel to avoid Billy Joel, only to be confronted with Neil Diamond! Even worse! I do not like this.
Playlist so far to help me along with paperwork - Bruno Mars, Take That and Billy Joel. Neil Diamond next. Bet Julie and Helen wish they were here lol
Linda's got the pipes to KILL with this epic Warren Zevon chart. One of the petty slights that just infuriates me is that a true rock-and-roll legend, Zevon, has not been inducted into the R&RHOF, while "pop stars" like Neil Diamond and Billy Joel are in there.
It is officially a great day. I started my morning with revisions. I just sat down to lunch with an excellent book, The Witch Must Die and Billy Joel's so g that was featured on Bosom Buddies is playing. It's been my favorite song since I was 5. Now I just need to hear Barbara Streisand and Neil Diamond sing You Don't Bring Me Flowers Anymore. I still remember the first time I saw it performed 25+ years ago.
Random Thoughts: Why did Neil Diamond make a Christmas album when he is Jewish? Why do most singers put out great albums when they first start out and then slowly start to suck (Ex: The Bridge by Billy Joel)? Is it creepy that the lead singer from Dire Straits wrote the song "Private Dancer" for Tina Tuner? Does the girl referenced in the Looking Glass song "Brandy" sound like a prostitue? Do the aforementioned comments indicate that I need to turn off the Music Channel or just stop reading the little blurbs about the artists?
Time to clean house while listening to some old favorite tunes. On the playlist? Billy Joel, U2, Creed, Death Cab, Lush, Muse, Pink, Prince and Neil Diamond to name a few:)
7mindless Fact What does 7minds and Lady Gaga have in common? Besides similar fashion sense, both performed at the Bitter End in NYC. As did Billy Joel, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, Richard Pryor, Taylor Swift, Stevie Wonder and in 2008, Neil Diamond.
Had a wonderfully fun time tonight at the July 2 Salute to America in Kennesaw with Becky Dever Wofford and Phil Wofford! Music was really awesome (Neil Diamond and Billy Joel tributes, SO GOOD) and the fireworks were spectacular! Thanks for the company Becky and Phil! Have fun on your second honeymoon!
Here are only a few of my favourite artists. Crowded House, Split ends, Matchbox20, Midnight Oil, a.c.d.c, guns&roses, Bonjovi, Brian Adams, Neil Diamond, Ray Charles, Hunters and collectors, dragon, Jimmy Barns, Jonny Cash, Jimmy Hendrix, Skyhooks, electric light orchestra, George Michael, Elton John, Billy Joel, Sting, Mental as anything, the cure, Madonna, Michael Jackson, the king of rock and roll of course and I have only mentioned one country artist and I haven't even got started on classical music yet.
On Thursday, May 10th, at 7:00pm at Salute to Springfield on Peoria road (previously Chasers), I will be performing a concert featuring everyone's favorite songs by Brooks and Dunn, Garth Brooks, Toby Keith, Merle Haggard, George Strait, Randy Travis, Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, Elton John and many others. I will also try to do requests if you have a song you would like to hear. Please come out and have a good time listening and dancing to some great old songs. Hope to see you there.
Yay! Billy Joel is my all time favorite singer. Along with Phil Collins, Springsteen, Bryan Adams, Elton John, Neil Diamond.
You can either be a Neil Diamond fan or a Billy Joel fan. Either way, you sing when drunk.
Yes. Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond. Next up: Billy Joel. Then either John Cougar or Dexy's Midnight Runners.
