Today, I visited one of our local DMV centers in the Eastern Panhandle. The staff was unbelievably helpful and responsive, something I greatly appreciated. However, I can't say that all of the rules governing the DMV are rationale. Some are completely ridiculous and need to be changed. One of the reasons I ran for office was to help citizens cut through red tape. Like many of you, I get frustrated by rules that lack common sense. During my tenure in office, we will work to change as many of them as possible. My office has certain enumerated powers, so I can't change everything. So please bear with me and don't expect everything to happen overnight. But we will act when we have constitutional authority to do so. Change is coming to the rulemaking processes in our state. I found it shocking that none of the rest of the Government felt they should stay around until the debate on something so important as the Respite Grant and cuts to Child Benefit concluded. One thing that seems to have gone under the media radar is the fact that local authority tenants who fall into arrears with their rent will soon be obliged to pay 15% of their social welfare payment until they are up-to-date with their rent again. I proposed an amendment that, if a tenant falls into arrears for more than a month, they are instead referred to MABS, who will make fair arrangements to have them repay their outstanding rent. It was rejected. This is democracy at its very worst

This Bill aims at extending CCI’s jurisdiction to cover all M&A deals without the exception of any sector. However, all forced mergers involving, for example, ailing banks and insurance companies would come under the ambit of the RBI and the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority. Once passed, the time period for the CCI to decide on the combinations would come down to 180 days from 210 days. The amended Act would grant powers to the CCI chief to allow the DG, its investigating arm, to carry out search and seizure activities.
