Bill Murray, John Travolta and Chevy Chase turned down the role of Forrest Gump. Travolta later admitted that passing on the role was a mistake. Terry Gilliam and Barry Sonnenfeld turned down the chance to direct the film. David Alan Grier, Ice Cube and Dave Chappelle turned down the role of Bubba. Chappelle thought the movie would bomb, and has since admitted to deeply regretting not taking the role. The Bayou le Batre hospital named after Forrest Gump is actually the University of South Carolina - Beaufort Performing Arts Center. The Vietnam scenes of the film were shot on what is now the Ocean Creek Golf Course on Fripp Island, SC. Gary Sinise's lower legs were wrapped in a special blue fabric that allowed them to be digitally removed later. Tom Hanks' younger brother Jim Hanks doubled for him in many of his numerous running sequences. Tom Hanks signed onto the film after an hour and a half of reading the script but agreed to take the role only on the condition that the film was historically accurate. ...
Any 1980's to early 90's movie with Gene Wilder , Richard Pryor ,John Cusack, John Candy, Tom Hanks, Chevy Chase or Bill Murray in them are some of the best comedies and absolutely brilliant.
So, Dave Letterman's retiring next year. I feel...old. I first became aware of Letterman in High School, and with respect to Johnny Carson, Dave became *my* talk show host. He influenced my sense of humor, or maybe my then-developing sense of humor just meshed with his show's much better than any other talk show's. We still have Craig Ferguson, and Jon Stewart, and Stephen Colbert. But it's not gonna feel right after Letterman's retirement. Stil, if Bill Murray was the first guest Letterman had on both Late Night and the Late Late Show, then his last guests have *got* to be Tom Hanks and Bruce Springsteen.
John Travolta, Chevy Chase, and Bill Murray all turned down the role of Forrest Gump, which was then played by Tom Hanks.
John Travolta, Bill Murray, and Chevy Chase all turned down the role of Forrest Gump before Tom Hanks accepted it.
Who will be guests in Letterman's last week? Would bet Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Steve Martin. Final guest Bill Murray? Bubble: Bruce Willis
Me and my friend Peter Miller watched David Letterman's first Late Night broadcast on February 1st 1982. Another close friend William Ferentz and I watched Dave together on a regular basis. I clearly remember his last show at NBC with Bruce Springsteen and Tom Hanks and his first show at CBS with Bill Murray. Other than Johnny Carson, David Letterman is the best late night performer in history. I will continue to watch until he retires some time next year. Good luck Dave.
the internet tells me it was Tom Hanks and Bruce. Bill Murray has to be on the list for "last guests"
Well, it's Friday and just for fun, here's some more gleenings from the Radio, TV and Movie history trivia book I'm working on. Before they were TV/Movie stars. Nicole Kidman was a massage therapist. Jennifer Aniston worked as a telemarketer, waitress and bike messenger. George Clooney tried to play baseball with the Cincinnati Reds. Angelina Jolie aspired to be a funeral director. Demi Moore worked at a debt collection agency. Christopher Walken was a circus lion tamer. Sylvester Stallone was also a lion tamer. Steven Buscemi was a NYC fireman. Tom Cruise attended a Franciscan seminary and aspired to become a Catholic priest. Tom Hanks also enrolled in seminary school to become a priest. Gwyneth Paltrow worked as a restaurant waitress. Jennifer Lopez worked in a law office. Matthew Mcconaughey cleaned chicken coops and washed dishes. Martha Stewart organized birthday parties and babysat Mickey Mantle’s four boys. Harrison Ford was a carpenter. Bill Murray sold chestnuts outside a Chicago grocery store. ...

Things You May Not Know About Me - my # is 7, thanks Valerie Perez 1. I was picked to be Mayor for a Day in High School, even though my Sociology teacher thought it was wasted on me. I am in the process of writing a series of books, unfortunately my drawing and comics have suffered for it..Sorry fans :(. If I get JK Rowling famous I'll hire a team to pick it back up. 3. I know it's not thanksgiving day yet...but I am thankful for the 1980's. The Steve Martin, Rick Morranis, Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, Mel "the legend" Brooks, Leslie Nielsen, Tom Hanks era that just keeps right on giving. I would give anything just to have been an extra in ghost busters.
Some movie previews for upcoming films that look very interesting (for various reasons): (1) Last Vegas (silly old men friends of 50 years having a boys outing in Vegas) (2) Captain Phillips with Tom Hanks (3) Monuments Men with George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray among others in an all star cast (4) Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit with Chris Pine, Kevin Costner, and Keira Knightley - a Tom Clancy thriller. And a long shot maybe is Grudge Match with Stallone and DeNiro.

This date in my history, 20 years ago today (May 23 1993) I took Lori Altonelli to the Hyde Park Drive in to see Groundhog Day with Bill Murray and Philadelphia with Tom Hanks, always a double feature deal. We were both 17 years old and sitting in my 1986 Toyota Corolla hatchback ... Groundhog Day played first and it was very funny and I was a perfect gentleman . Then halfway thru Philadelphia, I set down my box of Goobers and made my move towards her for a kiss, which she allowed, minutes later, I pressed my luck and reached toward her "chest area" for a feel, she slapped me so hard that I saw STARS!!! She jumped out of my car and began walking home along route 9 towards Wappingers ... I tried to apologize and get her to at least let me ride her home, she refused and walked all the way from Hyde Park to Cedar Hill in Fishkill, I felt horrible, I often wonder if the result would have been different had I made my preverted move during the much funnier movie, Groundhog Day ... I'll never know
The fact that Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks, Bill Murray, and Steve Martin are getting pretty old makes me want to cry.
Growing up during the ‘80s, John Candy has always been the quintessential comedian to me. The comedies that I watched as a kid included all the major Candy films, The Great Outdoors, Uncle Buck, Spaceballs, etc., and I even watched his short lived Saturday morning cartoon series Camp Candy. To me, John Candy will always be the one and only King of Comedy. Looking back over John Candy’s films, he’s the consummate family comedian. Though he’s been in a few rated R films, 90% of his work is family friendly, from Summer Rental to Cool Runnings. And thanks to his partnership with John Hughes, he received roles in most of the major Hugh films; from National Lampoon’s Vacation to Home Alone. Additionally, Candy worked with nearly every leading comedic actor of his day; Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Eugene Levy, Steve Martin, Tom Hanks, and Rick Moranis. John Candy was a comedic icon, who worked with the best and produced a brilliant legacy of films that lives on. Long live ...

The Movies of 1984 Who ya gonna call for the top movie of 1984? Ghostbusters of course! The flick, starring Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd as ghost hunters, was the top grossing movie of '84. 1984 also gave us Eddie Murphy's hilarious detective Axel Foley, a Detroit cop who takes his investigation to California in Beverly Hills Cop, and Tom Hanks hilarious love affair with a mermaid in Splash. A couple of more sequels turned up in the top grossing movies of 1984. Harrison Ford was back for another adventure in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Also back were the crew of the Enterprise in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. In 1984, we learned not to let the Gremlins get wet and that painting a fence and waxing a car will turn you into The Karate Kid. Rounding out the top movies of 1984 was the Indiana Jones clone Romancing the Stone, the wacky group of cadets at the Police Academy, and the Kevin Bacon dance flick Footloose.
